El contexto académico actual evidencia un importante déficit de textos científicos relativos al estudio del ceremonial y el protocolo en revistas académicas indexadas de alto impacto. La perspectiva relacional de la organización de actos permite abordar estas disciplinas desde la solidez metodológica que permiten las ciencias sociales. Así, el objetivo principal de este trabajo es realizar una aproximación a la cuestión epistemológica, enmarcada en las Ciencias Sociales, que permita el desarrollo de diseños metodológicos excelentes, de corte cualitativo, para el estudio científico del ceremonial y el protocolo. The current academic context shows an important deficit of scientific texts related to the study of the ceremonial and the protocol in high-impact indexed academic journals. The relational perspective of the organization of events allows us to approach these disciplines from the methodological solidity that the social sciences allow. Thus, the main objective of this work is to make an approach to the epistemological question, framed in the Social Sciences, which allows the development of excellent methodological designs, of a qualitative nature, for the scientific study of the ceremonial and the protocol.

U Republici Hrvatskoj kao i u većini drugih zemalja eskaliraju neredi na športskim natjecanjima. U cilju učinkovite primjene propisa vezanih uz sprječavanje nereda na športskim natjecanjima, Republika Hrvatska je donijela Protokol o sigurnosti na utakmicama visokog rizika. U ovom radu autori analiziraju odredbe Protokola kao i njegovu dosadašnju učinkovitost u sprječavanju nereda na športskim natjecanjima., In the Republic of Croatia, as in most other countries, riots at sports competitions are escalating. In order to effectively apply regulations related to the prevention of riots at sports competitions, the Republic of Croatia adopted the Protocol on safety at High-Risk Matches. In this paper, the author analyzes the provisions of the Protocol as well as its effectiveness so far in preventing disorder at sport competitions.

Self-care performed by patients and the caregiver contribution to this self-care are essential for improving cardiovascular outcomes; however, so far, no studies have sufficiently investigated this field in Italy. This paper describes a research protocol of a multi-center longitudinal study designed to investigate the self-care of patients affected by coronary heart disease (CHD), the caregiver's contribution to this self-care, the predictors of patient and caregiver self-care, the mediating role of self-efficacy, and the self-care outcomes. Data collection will be performed across seven Italian inpatient settings at baseline and 3 and 6 months from enrollment. Multilevel modeling and actor partner interdependence models will be implemented on a sample of 330 patient-caregiver dyads to adjust for the interdependence of measurements. The study received approval from an ethics committee in Italy and was financed in January 2021 by a grant from the Solidal Foundation in Alessandria. This research will advance the knowledge about the self-care process in CHD. The results will guide research and clinical practice by identifying variables sensitive to educational interventions.

The International Collaboration on Cancer Reporting (ICCR) was founded by major pathology organizations from around the world to produce internationally standardized and evidence-based datasets for pathologists' reporting of cancer. Its goal is to improve cancer patient outcomes worldwide and to advance international benchmarking in cancer management. The ICCR cancer dataset development schedule is aligned with revisions of the WHO Classification of Tumours ("Blue Book") series, and in 2015 ICCR developed an initial series of thoracic datasets including a dataset for neoplasms of the heart, pericardium, and great vessels. This edition has now been updated to align with the 2021 WHO Blue Book series. An expert panel was convened to review and revise the dataset. While the majority of ICCR datasets are focused on malignant tumors, the scope of this dataset includes a number of benign tumors and tumor-like entities because of the rarity of cardiac malignancies and the serious implications of even histologically benign lesions. Due to the rarity of cardiac tumors, evidence in support of reporting elements is limited.

Through a correspondence between two scholars, this paper explores and critiques various ways in which scholars working in ethnography and cultural analysis frame and construct their methodology and object of study. Through the close reading of theoretical accounts of methodology in ethnography and cultural analysis, we examine how these accounts construct the relationship between the scholar and her object of study. We read these scholarly practices as protocols, referring to the ways in which accounts of methodology may be understood as rules/guidelines by which scholars in these fields conduct research. Protocol etymologically refers to protos (first) and kolla (glue). Through the figure of the protocol, we delineate how scholars in ethnography and cultural analysis themselves become implicated in giving accounts of their research methodologies.

Objectives: To investigate and describe the protocolized perioperative management in patient using Direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in Dutch hospitals.Methods: Between August and December 2020, a nationwide survey in 70 hospitals in the Netherlands was conducted. We asked hospital pharmacists to submit their protocols for perioperative management of DOAC (apixaban, dabigatran, edoxaban and rivaroxaban) users. The protocols were assessed for a number of parameters divided into categories: interruption and restart timetables DOACs for elective procedures, criteria for the start of an urgent procedure without antidotes, criteria for the use of antidotes and advised antidotes for urgent procedures.Results: A total of 49 hospitals (70%) sent a protocol for perioperative management of DOACs. Two pairs of protocols were identical because hospitals cooperated closely, leaving 47 individual protocols for analysis. Thirty-five of these protocols contained a policy for both elective and urgent procedure; five protocols contained only a policy for elective and seven only for urgent procedures. In protocols for elective procedure, we found great variation in interruption and restart timetables intended for patients with renal impairment (Estimated Glomerular Filtration Ratio < 80 ml/min). In case of urgent procedures, there is variation in choice of antidote, criteria for administration of an antidote and antidote dosing.Conclusion: This study provides an overview of the current state of the perioperative protocols in the Netherlands in patients treated with direct oral anticoagulants. Protocols are often not complete and show important and unwanted variation. We have found that national guidelines do not provide unambiguous advice on all points (urgent procedures) and are therefore often elaborated at a local level. The results of this research can help in improving and harmonizing the perioperative protocols on a national level.

Cyber-physical-social systems (CPSS) as an emerging computing paradigm are revolutionizing the relationship between humans, devices and physical environments and will be expected to have a fundamental impact and influence in our daily lives. In a typical CPSS scenario, plenty of nodes (or devices) often adopt wireless distributed contention protocols to transmit sensed environment states for decision making. Therefore, designing a high-efficient and collision-less contention protocol is of great importance for wireless networking. As is known, in the classic time-to-frequency (T2F) protocol, each node signals on one randomly chosen subcarrier for contention. Though reducing the conventional time-domain contention time, T2F leads to many contention collisions (i.e., multiple nodes choose the same subcarrier) when the number of nodes is large. Aiming at this challenge, in this paper, we propose M-T2F (where each node signals on multiple randomly chosen subcarriers for contention) and analyze its consensus achievement. Specifically, M-T2F supports more nodes for transmission but introduces less collision, benefiting from lots of multicarrier choice combinations. Since the subset relationship between subcarrier choices poses a challenge to reach a consensus among nodes, M-T2F enables all nodes to reach a consensus by excluding the subset relationship and reduces contention time by utilizing wireless broadcast characteristic

The Licklider Transport Protocol (LTP) is the "convergence layer" of choice in Interplanetary networks based on Delay-/Disruption-Tolerant architecture. It was designed for long-delay scheduled-intermittent links, offering either a reliable or an unreliable service, with "red" and "green" parts, respectively. The aim of this article is to present multicolor LTP, an LTP version consisting in a series of enhancements of which the most significant are the use of monochrome sessions, the introduction of an additional orange color offering a "notified" service, and the definition of default link colors. After a thorough examination of basic LTP mechanisms for all color variants, this article discusses two scenarios where orange seems particularly appealing: video streaming and optical interplanetary links. Numerical results offer further insight into the complex LTP mechanisms and also highlight the difference between LTP retransmissions and bundle protocol retransmissions, the latter benefitting from routing reprocessing. Multicolor LTP has already been implemented as an interplanetary overlay network (ION) plug-in and its enhancements have been proposed to Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems Space Internetworking Services Delay-/Disruption-Tolerant Networking working group for a possible inclusion in the next version of LTP specifications (LTPv2).

Medicinal Biomagnetism (MB) is an Integrative and Complementary Practice in Health (PICS – Prática Integrativa e Complementar em Saúde) in Brazil. This therapeutic system was developed by Dr. Isaac Goiz Durán, in 1988. The practice consists of recognizing points with altered energy in the human body. Once the imbalances are identified and the bioenergetic dysfunctions corrected, it adjusts to the pH of the tissues involved and its health is restored. The MB uses Static Magnetic Fields (SMF) for the treatment in a non-invasive and easy to apply way. After more than 30 years of clinical practice, protocols for the treatment of various diseases were created. Uterine Fibroids or Myomas are benign smooth muscle tumors. There is an exaggerated growth of the myometrium cells in a delimited way, giving the myomas the appearance of nodules. The objective of this work is to present a protocol for the treatment and prevention of Uterine Fibroids. The methodology used in this study was a described bibliographic review of a quantitative and exploratory nature of related themes for the selection and presentation of the Uterine Fibroids Protocol. It can be used by health professionals, therapists or people who strive for self-responsibility in care, disease prevention or improvement in quality of life. It was concluded that it is important to continue producing scientific evidence related to the use of MB protocols, without leaving aside the preventive principle proposed by the PICS in Brazil, to simply stimulate self-care and self-management of quality of life.

Introduction: Obesity is a chronic disease that affects a large part of the population and can develop several outcomes such as cardiovascular disease, type II diabetes and some types of cancer. As a result, it favors negative aspects both for the individual and for the public administration. Faced with this problem, there is a need for new forms of treatment to improve the quality of life of these patients and reduce public spending. New alternatives to traditional medicine are needed to provide complementary non-drug treatments. Among them is Medicinal Biomagnetism (MB), a technique developed by Dr. Isaac Goiz Durán, which aims to favor the body’s homeostasis using medium intensity magnets. It is believed that this tool can act positively in the control, management and improvement of fluid retention in the body of obese individuals.Objective:This study aims to present and compile the MB 3D Protocol for the treatment of obesity with published evidence on Static Magnetic Fields (SMFs) applied to obesity treatment.Methodology:Qualitative, exploratory and descriptive literature review.Results:Some works were found demonstrating that MB therapy can benefit in obesity treatment. The 3D Protocol has therapeutic potential to produce positive effects, balancing the body’s homeostasis by helping metabolism regulation.Conclusion:Treatments with SMFs have beneficial effects on several aspects of obesity, which supports future studies that evaluate the results of the application of the 3D Protocol with this objective.

The level of dependence on data communication in the modern era is increasing exponentially. The internet of things (IoT) plays a very important role in the advancement of the industrial revolution 4.0 that utilizes data communication systems. IoT deployments require data communication protocols, such as hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP), and message queuing telemetry transport (MQTT) as well as network communication protocols (wireless) to meet the network needs of devices with limited resources. Optimization of data communication in IoT is needed to maintain the quality of sending and receiving data in real time. This research proposes a hybrid NarrowBand-IoT (NB-IoT) protocol designed using NarrowBand communication network technology with optimization of data communication using MQTT and HTTP protocols. In this research, the hybrid NB-IoT protocol has the best packet loss value of 0.010% against the HTTP NB-IoT protocol which has a value of 0.017%, and the MQTT NB-IoT protocol of 0.024%. The hybrid NB-IoT protocol has a latency value of 8.7 seconds compared to the HTTP NB-IoT protocol which has a latency of 10.9 seconds. Meanwhile, the throughput value of the hybrid NB-IoT protocol is 158906.1 byte/s and is better than the MQTT NB-IoT protocol which is only 158898.6 bytes/s.

Background: Since cancer pain requires complex modalities of care, the proper strategy for addressing its telemedicine-based management should be better defined. This study aimed to trace a pathway for a progressive implementation of the telemedicine process for the treatment of pain in the setting of cancer patients. Methods: The features of the model were investigated to dissect the dropout from the telemedicine pathway. A cross-sectional patient satisfaction study was conducted. The degree of satisfaction was evaluated through a developed 22-item questionnaire (Likert scale 0–7). Results: A total of 375 video consultations for 164 patients (mean age 62.9 years) were performed through remote consultations for cancer pain management between March 2021 and February 2022. After the exclusion of 72 patients, 92 (56.1%) were included in the analysis. The dropout ratio was 8.7%. The number of visits and pharmacological therapies for neuropathic pain correlated with the risk for readmission (p < 0.05). Overall, the satisfaction was very high (mean > 5.5 for all items). Conclusion: Feedback from patients reflected high satisfaction rates with the care provided. A methodological approach based on the degree of satisfaction combined with the analysis of the pathways can help to implement the quality of a service provided through telemedicine. While not without limitations, our hybrid protocol can be useful for addressing cancer pain through a patient-centered approach.

The role of research in national development cannot be over-emphasized. Research is the act of proffering solution(s) for present and future problems through knowledge contribution, seeking, and organization. The ability for one to find old or new knowledge or generate new ones, as well as follow a set of knowledge organization rules towards answering the research question(s) makes him/her, a researcher. The process and set of activities followed by the researcher have in recent times, involve knowledge exchange, collaboration, and blending, mostly through digital media, with the cloud as the main storage and linked via several, wired, wireless, hardware, and software interfaces. The described system is prone to cyber-attack and must be protected, as most research is funded by interested bodies and their outcomes are highly evident in national development. This work christened “Cyber First-Aid” is geared toward creating situational awareness of the need for researchers to protect their finished or ongoing intellectual property from hackers. The methods proposed are not best practices in the cyber security domain but easily applicable checks and solutions with Graphical User Interface applications that any researcher with minimal computer knowledge can implement in order to increase cyber hygiene and minimize intellectual property loss. Applying cyber hygiene best practices, monitoring, analysis, and scanning of data packets with protocol analyzers, packet capturers, hash key generator, and Virus Total malware search engine, scanning e-mail, downloaded files, URLs, and executable files before opening or installing, clearing browsing cache, and blocking URLs discovered to have malicious content, are tools (procedures) that make up cyber first-aid. The result of implementing these tools proved effective in the detection, prevention, and removal of attack vectors and protection of researchers’ intellectual property.

Objective: To evaluate the influence of a wound healing protocol for stage III and IV pressure ulcers (PUs), and to determine the predictive power of specific sociodemographic and clinical characteristics on wound healing and infection. Method: This longitudinal study included participants with stage III and IV PUs who were recruited from 10 acute care settings of an Italian university hospital, and who were managed with a protocol inspired by the TIMECare model. Data were collected between October 2018 and March 2019. The National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel Staging System was used to stage the PUs. Wound healing was assessed with the Pressure Ulcer Scale for Healing (PUSH). Nutritional status was assessed with the Mini Nutritional Assessment Index. Data collection took place at admission and every seven days thereafter—a total of six times before discharge. The outcome and predictors of wound healing were assessed with Student's paired t-tests and multiple linear regressions, respectively. Results: Patients (n=126) were almost equally split between male and female, with a mean age of 78.17 years and who were all retired. Stage III and IV PUs were most prevalent at the sacrum (65.5% and 73.2%, respectively). PUSH wound healing scores improved significantly after six weeks in both stage III and IV PUs (p2=0.12). Conclusion: Our results showed that a good nutritional status and a protocol inspired by the TIMECare model were associated with wound healing improvements in stage III and IV PUs. We recommend this protocol in older patients with stage III and IV PUs.

This article considers the Protocol on Ireland/Northern Ireland in the UK–EU Withdrawal Agreement as a ‘flexible and imaginative’ response to the problems that Brexit has created for the island of Ireland. It looks at the purpose of the Protocol and its origins, noting the reasons why flexibility was required from both sides. It then considers the ways in which precariousness from its conception has been demonstrated in its first year of operation. This focuses upon four main areas: implementation, dynamic alignment, the democratic consent vote, and the UK–EU relationship. Its core argument is the ‘flexibility’ that the Protocol requires also means a certain degree of ambiguity. In the absence of a stable UK–EU relationship, this precariousness could exacerbate the difficulties of meeting the policy challenges that surround the Protocol for Northern Ireland, the UK, Ireland and the EU.

A protocol for the representation of traditional crafts and the tools to implement this are proposed. The proposed protocol is a method for the systematic collection and organization of digital assets and knowledge, their representation into a formal model, and their utilization for research, education, and preservation. A set of digital tools accompanies this protocol that enables the online curation of craft representations. The proposed approach was elaborated and evaluated with craft practitioners in three case studies. Lessons learned are shared and an outlook for future work is provided.

Technical photograph becomes one of the most important key tools to disclose experimental results. In microbiological research, several pieces of evidence can be indicated with parameters that are deeply related to culture media; pH and color variation, halo formation, overlay of structures, culture shape, among others. The employment of technical photographs as a strategy of the experimental observation and reliable representation is indispensable. The protocol presented here suggests the production of photographic support in microbiological assays in Petri dishes taken by smartphone to obtain high-quality images, besides showing tools to edit images using PowerPoint. The support is composed of a paper tube with a transparent border, whose reduced light penetration avoiding light reflection over the Petri dishes or the culture media. The edition consists of photograph variation, and in clipping and pasting on uniform backgrounds to provide further detailing. The protocol allowed a standardized photograph collection in high quality, which is ideal for a comparative portrait of microbiological behaviors. The image editing enabled a framework and greater visibility of physical and biological structures in the exhibition of photographs inside the manuscript, such as the removal of noises, background alterations, deformities or irregularities. Terapias magnéticas têm sido foco de estudo pelos resultados positivos observados na prática clínica. As células do corpo humano são afetadas pela aplicação de Campos Magnéticos Estáticos (CMEs). Essa interação tem demonstrado bons resultados no tratamento de diversos sintomas e doenças. Baseado nos estudos de Dr. Richard Broeringmeyer, o Dr. Isaac Goiz Durán desenvolveu uma nova terapia, o Biomagnetismo Medicinal (BM). Um dos achados do Dr. Goiz baseia-se em alterações de fluxos corporais como, alterações vasculares. Estas permitem ser influenciadas por Pares Biomagnéticos (PBMs) que possibilita sustentar microrganismos patogênicos ou gerar alterações tissulares que podem dificultar o retorno venoso. A Insuficiência Venosa Crônica (IVC) é a deficiência do fluxo sanguíneo nas veias profundas dos Membros Inferiores (MMII), decorrente de disfunções do retorno venoso dos membros para o coração, acarretando refluxo sanguíneo, hipertensão venosa sustentada pelo acúmulo sanguíneo nas veias profundas. O BM é uma prática complementar não invasiva, de baixo custo, indolor, de fácil aplicação e mínimas contraindicações, que visa a prevenção de diversas patologias, inclusive IVC, sendo uma alternativa de grande potencial terapêutico. O objetivo deste estudo de revisão bibliográfica de método analítico de caráter exploratório e qualitativo, é apresentar um protocolo de BM que possa ser aplicado para auxiliar no tratamento de IVC. Como resultado deste estudo apresentou-se o Protocolo de Tratamento para Fluxo Sanguíneo de Membros Inferiores (FSMI). Conclui-se que este pode auxiliar no tratamento da IVC, seus sinais e sintomas, facilitando o retorno venoso, merecendo ser aferido em estudos maiores.

Introduction: Menopause is the period in a woman’s life between 40 and 60 years old, marked by the interruption of menstrual periods. Usually accompanied by psychosomatic symptoms, hot flashes, malaise, night sweats, nausea and lack of concentration. Medicinal Biomagnetism (MB) is a natural, non-invasive, painless and low-cost therapeutic system that presents itself as an Integrative and Complementary Practice (PIC – Práticas Integrativas e Complementar in Portuguese) that acts in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of bioelectric and biomagnetic dysfunctions of the body. The treatment aims at rebalancing human beings in all aspects of life, involving organic, energetic, emotional, psycho-emotional, spiritual dysfunctions and the Chakras. MB stimulates the body’s homeostasis through Static Magnetic Fields, generated by therapeutic magnets and aims at neutralizing the organic environments affected by bioelectromagnetic dysfunctions that may favor the development of pathologies.Objective:The objective of this study is to present a MB protocol for self-care, through the alignment and balance of the body’s electromagnetic energy distribution centers, known as Chakras, for the treatment of menopausal symptoms.Method:The applied methodology was a descriptive and exploratory bibliographical review, structuring the Chakra/Gland protocol presented as a result of this research.Conclusion:The conclusion is that the presented protocol can stimulate the body’s vital energy by acting directly on the endocrine interfaces, improving the physical, psycho-emotional and energetic system of women going through the menopause phase, minimizing the adverse effects of this period and, providing health and quality of life in a natural way.

Medicinal Biomagnetism (MB) is an integrative and complementary therapeutic system that is non-invasive, painless, and low-cost. It uses medium-intensity magnets to restore the pH balance of cell structures by means of depolarizing Biomagnetic Pairs (BMP). Psoriasis is an example of a condition for which MB may be used as an adjunctive treatment. It is a chronic, autoimmune, and recurrent inflammatory skin disease that affects both men and women of any age. It affects between 2 and 3% of the world’s population and is difficult to treat. Through a qualitative, narrative, and exploratory literature review, the aim is to present the theory of Biomagnetic Pair or Medicinal Biomagnetism, as well as its physical diagnostic examination technique, called Complete Scanning, and the specific protocols associated with the treatment of Psoriasis. We present an alternative for complementary treatment of this disease using MB, as well as a suggestion for its application in controlled clinical trials.

Normalmente acompanhado por sintomas psicossomáticos, ondas de calor, mal estar, suores noturnos, náuseas e falta de concentração. O Biomagnetismo Medicinal (BM) é um sistema terapêutico natural, não invasivo, indolor e de baixo custo que se apresenta como uma Prática Integrativa e Complementar (PIC) que atua na prevenção, diagnóstico e tratamento de disfunções bioelétricas e biomagnéticas do organismo. O tratamento visa o reequilíbrio dos seres vivos em todos os aspectos da vida, envolvendo disfunções orgânicas, energéticas, emocionais, psicoemocionais, espirituais e os Chakras. O BM estimula a homeostase do organismo através de Campos Magnéticos Estáticos, gerados por ímãs terapêuticos e, visa a neutralização dos ambientes orgânicos afetados por disfunções bioeletromagnéticas que podem favorecer o desenvolvimento de patologias. O objetivo deste estudo é apresentar um protocolo de BM visando o autocuidado, através do alinhamento e equilíbrio dos centros de distribuição de energia eletromagnética do organismo, conhecidos como Chakras, para o tratamento dos sintomas da menopausa. A metodologia aplicada foi de revisão bibliográfica descritiva e de caráter exploratório propiciando a apresentação como resultado desta pesquisa do Protocolo Chakra/Glândula. Concluímos que, por atuar diretamente nas interfaces endócrinas, o protocolo apresentado pode estimular de forma simples a energia vital do organismo, melhorando o sistema físico, psicoemocional e energético das mulheres que atravessam a fase da menopausa, minimizando os efeitos adversos deste período e, proporcionando saúde e qualidade de vida de forma natural.

Neurons in the hypothalamus orchestrate homeostatic physiological processes and behaviors essential for life. Human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) can be differentiated into many types of hypothalamic neurons, progenitors, and glia. This updated unit includes published studies and protocols with new advances in the differentiation, maturation, and interrogation by transcriptomic profiling and calcium imaging of human hypothalamic cell populations. Specifically, new methods to freeze and thaw hypothalamic progenitors after they have been patterned and before substantial neurogenesis has occurred are provided that will facilitate experimental flexibility and planning. Also included are updated recipes and protocols for neuronal maturation, with details on the equipment and methods for examining their transcriptomic response and cell-autonomous properties in culture in the presence of synaptic blockers. Together, these protocols facilitate the adoption and use of this model system for fundamental biological discovery and therapeutic translation to human diseases such as obesity, diabetes, sleep disorders, infertility, and chronic stress. © 2023 The Authors. The purpose of this protocol is to report the methodology for the development of a Core Outcome Set (COS) for the mitochondrial neurogastrointestinal encephalomyopathy (MNGIE).A COSrepresents the minimum that should be measured in a clinical trial for a particular condition. The aim of the COLT-MNGIE project is to develop a COS to be used in research on the efficacy, safety and value ofliver transplantationfor MNGIE and other permanent enzyme-replacement treatments. COS will be developed according to the Core Outcome Measures in Effectiveness Trials (COMET) Initiative standards and recommendations.The COLT-MNGIE project is promoted by MITOCON(https://www.mitocon.it/),the Italian advocacy group on mitochondrial diseases, and it will involve healthcare professionals (neurologists, paediatric neurologists, gastroenterologists, transplant surgeons, post-surgical ICU specialists, nutritionists), biochemists and other researchers/professionals, persons with MNGIE, their care givers and methodologists.

Currently, several treatments have been studied in order to restore health. A very promising treatment option is through the use of magnets. The exposure of cells to the Static Magnetic Field (SMF) is able to affect cellular behavior by rebalancing their hydrogen potential (pH) that was previously in dysfunction, and may help control signs and symptoms of diseases resulting from patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) who may present subclinical states of infectious diseases. Medicinal Biomagnetism (MB) is a non-invasive integrative therapy that uses magnets as a tool to rebalance the body’s natural pH, allowing the return to normal health conditions. With the MB it is possible to identify and correct dysfunctions that can lead and sustain infectious pathologies, through the protocol proposed by Dr. David Goiz Martínez, assisting in the improvement of signs and symptoms associated with diabetes mellitus, contributing to the general improvement of the individual. Objective: This study aims to present a MB protocol to aid in the treatment of DM. It also seeks a broad view of other protocols not considered in Martínez’s proposal and suggests their incorporation. Materials and Methods: the article is a literary review where 42 references were used, being 05 for the elaboration of the protocol. Results: script of the protocol with the step-by-step treatment of DM with the MB. Conclusion: MB is a complementary and integrative technique with prophylactic potential in metabolic, endocrine and pathogenic disorders, easy to apply, low cost and with relatively fast results, with very low side effects. Future perspectives: It is mandatory to prove the proposed protocol.&nbsp

EFSA developed ahazard assessment protocol upfront to the re-evaluation of Bisphenol A to ensure an efficient and transparent assessment, in line with the principles highlighted in the EFSA project PROmoting METHods for Evidence Use in scientific assessments. After undergoing a public consultation, the protocol was revised according to the comments received and published in its draft version in 2017 (10.5281/zenodo.1116881). Prior to being applied, and still during its implementation in the BPA assessment, the protocol was tested and slightly revised. This is the final version of the protocol used for the BPA re-evaluation, annexed (Annex A) to the opinion on BPA risk assessment of the EFSA CEP Panelpublished in April 2023 (https://doi.org/10.2903/j.efsa.2023.6857). The protocol states in detail the methods and/or the criteria that were used in the BPA re-evaluation for data collection, study inclusion, evidence appraisal and integration.

The Magnetic therapies have been the focus of studies due to the positive results observed in clinical practice. The cells in the human body are affected by the application of Static Magnetic Fields (SMFs). This interaction has shown good results in the treatment of various symptoms and diseases. Based on studies of Dr. Richard Broeringmeyer, Dr. Isaac Goiz Durán developed a new therapy: Medicinal Biomagnetism (MB). One of the findings of Dr. Goiz is based on the alteration of body flows, such as vascular alteration. These allow it to be influenced by Biomagnetic Pairs (BMPs) that make it possible to sustain pathogenic microorganisms or generate tissue alterations that can hinder venous return. The Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI) is a deficiency of blood flow in the deep veins of the Lower Limbs (LL), resulting from dysfunctions of venous return from the limbs to the heart, causing blood reflux, venous hypertension sustained by blood accumulation in the deep veins. MB is a non-invasive, low-cost, painless, easy-to-apply complementary practice with minimal contraindications, which aims to prevent several pathologies, including CVI, being a treatment option with great therapeutic potential.Objective and Method:The objective of this exploratory and qualitative bibliographic review carried out by the analytical method is to present a MB protocol that can be applied to assist in the treatment of CVI.Results and Conclusion:The Treatment Protocol for Lower Limb Blood Flow (LLBF) was presented as a result of this study, leading to the conclusion that it can help in the treatment of CVI, its signs and symptoms, facilitating venous return, deserving to be researched in controlled studies.

Idiograms are graphical representations in which chromosomes appear ordered by their relative size, homology groups, and the presence of cytogenetic landmarks such as centromeres, secondary constrictions, and banding patterns. They have become crucial elements in cytogenetic research. Here, we describe a simple protocol for spreadsheet software to draw idiograms and map any type of sequence onto them. These graphs can be easily used to present research results and can become the basis to raise and resolve questions related to different biological issues. Objective: SARS-CoV-2 outbreak has a negative psychological impact among general population. Data comparing mental health status before and during the outbreak is needed. The BIOVAL-D-COVID-19 study assess the socio-economic and psychological impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown in a representative sample of non-institutionalized Spanish adult population, and estimate the incidence of mental health disorders, including suicidal behaviours, and possible related factors. Method: Observational longitudinal study including two online surveys: baseline survey (T0) performed during 2019 and follow-up survey (T1) conducted 12-month later. The latter included nine sections: socio-demographic, health status, mental health, employment conditions and status, material deprivation, use of healthcare services, intimate partner violence and resilience. Four of the nine sections are administered in T0 and T1 assessments. Longitudinal data analyses will estimate adjusted incidence rates of mental health disorders using Poisson regression models. Risk and protective factors will be analysed through multiple logistic regression models. RESUMEN Objetivo: El estudio BIOVAL-D-COVID-19 evaluara el impacto socioeconomico y psicologico de la pandemia de COVID-19 y del confinamiento en una muestra representativa de poblacion espanola adulta no institucionalizada, y estimara la incidencia de trastornos de salud mental, incluida la conducta suicida, y los posibles factores relacionados. Metodo: Estudio longitudinal que incluye dos encuestas online: la encuesta basal (T0) realizada durante 2019 y la encuesta de seguimiento (T1) realizada 12 meses despues. Esta ultima tiene nueve secciones: variables sociodemograficas, estado de salud general, salud mental, condiciones laborales y estatus laboral, privacion material, uso de servicios de salud, violencia de pareja y resiliencia. Cuatro de las nueve secciones se administran en ambas encuestas (T0 y T1). Se utilizaran modelos de regresion de Poisson para el analisis longitudinal de las tasas de incidencia ajustadas de trastornos de salud mental. The application of Fixed Time Artificial Insemination (FTAI) protocols has strongly boosted artificial insemination in Brazilian bovine herds. The control of the estrous cycle with protocols based on progesterone and estrogen involves synchronizing the emergence of a follicular wave, controlling the progesterone phase, and inducing ovulation in a synchronized manner. The increase in pregnancy rates starts with the preparation of the breeding season and the choice of protocols and females. Thereafter, based on the characteristics of the property and the lots of animals, small adjustments can be made to the hormonal protocols as needed. Finally, resynchronization can increase usability by allowing multiple inseminations within short periods. The search for new strategies is of paramount importance for the development of the FTAI protocol and the increase in final pregnancy rates. Thus, this review sought to highlight the main critical points and adjustments of the FTAI protocols and their applicability in the reproduction of beef cattle.

Ammonia (NH3) is an important, albeit sticky, precursor for producing secondary inorganic aerosols (SIA), especially in the form of ammonium nitrate (NH4NO3) and ammonium sulfate ((NH4)2SO4). To reduce SIAs, many researchers have attempted to measure the concentration of ambient NH3 using real-time or passive methods. However, NH3 is a highly sticky gas and is therefore difficult to measure using real-time methods without incurring losses during measurement. In this study, four different tubing materials, semi seamless tubes, perfluoroalkoxy (PFA), polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), were used to ascertain the adsorption of NH3 in inlets using real-time instruments. Without heating sample tubes and at 0% relative humidity (RH), this study shows that PTFE had the least adsorption (i.e., 0% at 1 and 2 m of sample tube), and semi-seamless tubes had the highest adsorption (i.e., 27.5% at 1 m of sample tube). To calculate the adsorption of NH3 under ambient conditions, at various inlet lengths, the RH of NH3 was varied from 20% to 80%, which showed that shorter inlets and higher RH lower NH3 adsorption at inlets (i.e., 1.74 ppb m-1 at 80% RH and 7.48 ppb m-1 at 20% RH). Additionally, inlet heating was effective in reducing the adsorption of NH3 as the RH decreased. Applying the inlet system (i.e., 2 m of PTFE tube with heating) showed excellent correlation (slope: 0.995 and coefficient: 0.992) between two different real-time measurements while measuring ambient air.

Poxviruses have been used extensively as vaccine vectors for human and veterinary medicine and have recently entered the clinical realm as immunotherapies for cancer. We present a comprehensive method for producing high-quality lots of the poxvirus Parapoxvirus ovis (OrfV) for use in preclinical models of vaccinology and cancer therapy. OrfV is produced using a permissive sheep skin-derived cell line and is released from infected cells by repeated freeze-thaw combined with sonication. We present two methods for isolation and purification of bulk virus. Isolated virus is concentrated to high titer using polyethylene glycol to produce the final in vivo-grade product. We also describe methods for quantifying OrfV infectious virions and determining genomic copy number to evaluate virus stocks. The methods herein will provide researchers with the ability to produce high-quality, high-titer OrfV for use in preclinical studies, and support the translation of OrfV-derived technologies into the clinic., Graphical abstract, Methods for producing high-titer, high-purity OrfV, a poxvirus of the Parapoxvirus ovis genera and a promising oncolytic and vaccine vector, are described, as are methods for accurate titration of OrfV. Background Well-controlled glucose (i.e. 70-180 mg/dl) has been associated with lower mortality from COVID-19. The addition of dexamethasone to COVID-19 treatment protocols has raised concerns about the potential negative consequences of dexamethasone-induced hyperglycemia. Methods We developed a protocol to guide the management of dexamethasone-induced hyperglycemia in hospitalized patients with COVID-19. Two of the four medical teams managing patients with COVID-19 at a tertiary center used the protocol and the other two teams continued to manage hyperglycemia at the discretion of the treating physicians (“Protocol” and “Control” groups, respectively). The glycemic control and clinical outcomes in 163 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 and dexamethasone-induced hyperglycemia between July 5th and September 30th, 2020 were retrospectively reviewed and compared between the two groups. Results Compared to the “Control” group, the “Protocol” group had higher proportions of patients with well-controlled glucose across all pre-meals and bedtime glucose readings throughout the hospitalization. This article updates the American Academy of Sleep Medicine protocols for the administration of the Multiple Sleep Latency Test and the Maintenance of Wakefulness Test. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine commissioned a task force of clinical experts in sleep medicine to review published literature on the performance of these tests since the publication of the 2005 American Academy of Sleep Medicine practice parameter paper. Although no evidence-based changes to the protocols were warranted, the task force made several changes based on consensus. These changes included guidance on patient preparation, medication and substance use, sleep before testing, test scheduling, optimum test conditions, and documentation. Objective: to map in the literature the nursing care before, during and after therapeutic bleeding in the elderly Method: this review will be conducted according to the Joanna Briggs Institute Manual using the PRISMA checklist guidelines Extension for Scoping Reviews, using the following databases: MEDLINE via PubMed, Web of Science, SCOPUS, EMBASE, COCHRANE and, for the gray literature, the CAPES Theses and Dissertations Catalog and Google Scholar. After searching the studies, duplicates will be removed in EndNote manager and then exported to the Rayyan software where the titles and abstracts will be analyzed followed by peer and blind reading of the full text, and any disagreements will be discussed with a third reviewer. The extracted data will be presented by means of flowcharts, tables, charts, and narrative and descriptive discussion. The review will be registered in the Open Science Framework.

Background Cognitive difficulties experienced by people with multiple sclerosis (MS) impact on quality of life and daily functioning, from childcare and work to social and self-care activities. The Cognitive Occupation-Based programme for people with MS (COB-MS) was developed as a holistic, individualised cognitive rehabilitation intervention to address the wide-ranging symptoms and functional difficulties that present in MS, including the ability to maintain employment, social activities, home management and self-care. The aim of the research is to evaluate the feasibility and preliminary efficacy of COB-MS for people with MS. Methods Due to the impacts of COVID-19, trial activities that were planned for in-person delivery were completed remotely. One hundred and twenty people with MS will be assigned to participate in either the COB-MS programme or a treatment-as-usual, wait-list control group as part of this single-blind, cluster-randomised controlled feasibility and preliminary efficacy trial of the COB-MS programme. The COB-MS group will participate in an eight-session occupational-based cognitive rehabilitation programme over 9 weeks. The COB-MS intervention was planned for in-person delivery but was delivered online by occupational therapists to small groups of people with MS. The primary outcome measure is the Goal Attainment Scaling at 12 weeks. Participants will be assessed pre-intervention, post-intervention, 12 weeks post-intervention and 6 months post-intervention. Qualitative evaluations of participants’ perspectives will also be examined as part of the feasibility study. Data, due to be collected in-person, was collected online or by post. The original study design, including the statistical analysis plan, remains unchanged despite the shift to a remote trial conduct. Discussion Results will provide recommendations for a future definitive trial of COB-MS, with respect to both feasibility and preliminary, clinical efficacy. Trial registration ISRCTN ISRCTN11462710. Scoping Review Protocol

In addition to their roles as conservation organisations, zoos have a role in the economy. They are centres for tourism, employ local people, and use local goods. In addition, they provide cultural services, and protect ecosystem services through species and habitat conservation. Despite this, little is known about the economic value that zoos have. This systematic review will examine the current evidence of zoos economic value and the ways in which these values have been calculated.

The last 18 years have brought an increasing interest in the therapeutic use of perinatal derivatives (PnD). Preclinical studies used to assess the potential of PnD therapy include a broad range of study designs. The COST SPRINT Action (CA17116) aims to provide systematic and comprehensive reviews of preclinical studies for the understanding of the therapeutic potential and mechanisms of PnD in diseases and injuries that benefit from PnD therapy. Here we describe the publication search and data mining, extraction, and synthesis strategies employed to collect and prepare the published data selected for meta-analyses and reviews of the efficacy of PnD therapies for different diseases and injuries. A coordinated effort was made to prepare the data suitable to make statements for the treatment efficacy of the different types of PnD, routes, time points, and frequencies of administration, and the dosage based on clinically relevant effects resulting in clear increase, recovery or amelioration of the specific tissue or organ function. According to recently proposed guidelines, the harmonization of the nomenclature of PnD types will allow for the assessment of the most efficient treatments in various disease models. Experts within the COST SPRINT Action (CA17116), together with external collaborators, are doing the meta-analyses and reviews using the data prepared with the strategies presented here in the relevant disease or research fields. Our final aim is to provide standards to assess the safety and clinical benefit of PnD and to minimize redundancy in the use of animal models following the 3R principles for animal experimentation.

Background: Women with insulin-treated gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) require close monitoring and support to manage their diabetes. Recent changes to the diagnostic criteria have implications for service provision stemming from increased prevalence, suggesting an increased burden on health services in the future. Telemedicine may augment usual care and mitigate service burdens without compromising clinical outcomes but evidence in GDM is limited. Objective: The Telemedicine for Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (TeleGDM) trial aims to explore the use of telemedicine in supporting care and management of women with GDM treated with insulin. Methods: The TeleGDM is a mixed-methods study comprising an exploratory randomized controlled trial (RCT) and a qualitative evaluation using semistructured interviews. It involves women with insulin-treated GDM who are up to 35 weeks gestation. Participating patients (n=100) are recruited face-to-face in outpatient GDM clinics at an outer metropolitan tertiary hospital with a culturally diverse catchment and a regional tertiary hospital. The second group of participants (n=8) comprises Credentialed Diabetes Educator Registered Nurses involved in routine care of the women with GDM at the participating clinics. The RCT involves use of a Web-based patient-controlled personal health record for GDM data sharing between patients and clinicians compared to usual care. Outcomes include service utilization, maternal and fetal outcomes (eg, glycemic control, 2nd and 3rd trimester fetal size, type of delivery, baby birth weight), diabetes self-efficacy, satisfaction, and costs. Semistructured interviews will be used to examine user experiences and acceptability of telemedicine. Results: The trial recruitment is currently underway. Results are expected by the end of 2016 and will be reported in a follow-up paper. Conclusions: Innovative use of technology in supporting usual care delivery in women with GDM may facilitate timely access to GDM monitoring data and mitigate care burdens without compromising maternal and fetal outcomes. The intervention may potentially reduce health service utilization. This is a population-based study using health administrative data to capture all hospitalizations in Canada between January 2015 and March 2022 to examine the association between the legal age of cannabis use/purchase and changes in cannabis-related hospitalizations in the context of Canada legalizing recreational/non-medical cannabis use in adults (October 2018).

Across the globe, student champions are building the social prescribing student movement. Given the critical role that students are playing in shaping the wider social prescribing movement, there is a need to understand the extent and type of evidence on social prescribing and students. Doing so will address an important gap in the literature, as there are no evidence reviews on this topic. Thus, the objective of this scoping review is to understand the extent and type of evidence on social prescribing and students. This review will be conducted in accordance with the JBI methodology for scoping reviews. The search strategy will aim to locate both published and unpublished literature. No language or date restrictions will be placed on the search. The databases to be searched include MEDLINE (Ovid), CINAHL (EBSCO), Embase (Ovid), PsycINFO (Ovid), AMED (Ovid), ASSIA (ProQuest), Sociological Abstracts (ProQuest), Global Health (Ovid), Web of Science (Clarivate), Epistemonikos, JBI EBP Database (Ovid), and Cochrane Library. Sources of gray literature to be searched include Google, Google Scholar, Social Care Online (Social Care Institute for Excellence), SIREN Evidence and Resource Library (Social Interventions Research and Evaluation Network), and websites of social prescribing organizations and networks. Additionally, a request for evidence sources will be sent out to members of the Global Social Prescribing Student Council. Two independent reviewers will perform title and abstract screening, retrieval and assessment of full-text evidence sources, and data extraction. Results will be presented in tabular and/or diagrammatic format alongside a narrative summary.

Wheelchair users who receive training in wheelchair skills are more likely to participate in society, return to work, and perform daily activities safely. The WSTP is a free, online, set of training protocols to perform and teach individual skills based on evidence from motor skills learning literature and experience from subject matter experts. Over the last two decades, evidence in support of the effectiveness of the WSTP to train wheelchair skills using different modes of delivery in various populations settings has been accumulating. Yet, there has been limited uptake in its implementation. This knowledge-translation gap may be related to barriers faced by users in implementing the program and the lack of guidance on the best mode of delivery and training approach based on the targeted population and setting.

The aim of this review is to characterise collaborative research initiatives aiming to influence food systems transformation. Specifically, those which engage citizens as co-researchers, beyond the level of consultation. The initiatives considered could be led by industry, academia, or community, and must be based in High Income countries as defined by the World Bank (2023). Areas to be mapped include aims of initiatives, rationale for a collaborative approach, impacts and outcomes, terms used, and the experiences of the citizen co-researchers.
