In this article, the literary activities of the Karachay-Balkar Turks during the last two years of the 14-year long deportation period are discussed. The Soviet administration wrongly accused them of helping the Germans during World War II and deported the Karachay-Balkar Turks from their homeland of the Caucasus to various parts of Central Asia on November 2, 1943, and March 8, 1944. Karachay-Balkar Turks lived in deportation for about 14 years. Only five poetry anthologies and four private poetry books could be published in Karachay-Balkar Turkish in the last two years of the deportation period. In our study, since these literary works are few, they have been dealt with in detail and one by one. Brief information about the lives of poets and writers in literary works is presented, and examples of their poems that attract attention in terms of content are given. In the conclusion part of our study, a thematic evaluation was made to cover all the works. Until now, this issue has not been given much attention. This is the first time that such a comprehensive study is presented here. The content of these literary works in question is significant in reflecting the mood of the Karachay-Balkar Turks, who had great troubles at that time., Bu makalede, Sovyet yönetimi tarafından İkinci Dünya Savaşı sırasında Almanlarla işbirliği yaptıkları ithamıyla 2 Kasım 1943 ve 8 Mart 1944 tarihlerinde ata yurtları Kafkasya’dan Orta Asya’nın muhtelif bölgelerine topyekûn sürgün edilen Karaçay-Malkar Türklerinin yaklaşık 14 yıl kadar devam eden sürgün döneminin son iki yılında gerçekleştirdikleri edebî faaliyetleri ele alınmıştır. Bu süre içerisinde Karaçay-Malkar Türkçesiyle ancak beş şiir antolojisi ve dört müstakil şiir kitabı yayınlayabilmişlerdir. Çalışmamızda söz konusu bu eserler sayıca az olmaları sebebiyle ayrıntılı bir şekilde tek tek ele alınmış; eserlerde yer alan şair ve yazarların hayatı hakkında kısa bilgiler sunulmuş, muhteva bakımından dikkat çeken şiirlerinden örnekler verilmiştir. Çalışmamızın sonuç kısmında bütün eserleri kapsayacak şekilde tematik bir değerlendirme yapılmıştır. Bugüne kadar üzerinde pek fazla durulmayan ve bu kadar kapsamlı bir şekilde ilk defa çalışmamızda ele alınan söz konusu bu edebî eserlerin muhtevası o dönemde büyük sıkıntılar yaşayan Karaçay-Malkar Türklerinin hâletiruhiyesini aksettirmesi bakımından oldukça önemlidir.

Aims: In this study, the best sampling time and tissues for phytoplasma detection in twenty pear trees (cv. Deveci) infected by ‘Candidatus Phytoplasma pyri’, causal agent of pear decline disease, in Bursa province of Turkey were investigated. Methods and Results: Sampling was done throughout the year in leaf midribs, shoot and root tissues, where as the flower tissues were tested once a year in March and fruit tissues in September. All samples were analyzed by nested-PCR using P1/P7 and fU5/rU3 universal primer pairs. Nested PCR products were digested with RsaI and SspI restriction enzymes. The results revealed that the detection rate of ‘Ca. P. pyri’ in different plant tissues was greatly depending on the sample collection period. The fruit tissues, which were only sampled in September due to the ripening time of Deveci pear cultivar in Bursa, showed the highest detection rate of ‘Ca. P. pyri’ (100%) followed by flower tissues (75%). The average detection rate in root, shoot tissues and leaf midribs was found as 43.75, 39.58 and 16.25%, respectively. The present results showed that the best plant tissues for detecting ‘Ca. P. pyri’ in pear trees were fruit columella and flowers. The highest detection rate of this phytoplasma in root tissues was found from November to March, whereas it could be detected whole year around except summer months in shoot samples in Turkey. Conclusions: For 'Candidatus Phytoplasma pyri', detection, if there is no seasonal limitation for testing, the most suitable tissues are fruits and flowers. When it comes to testing throughout the year, the most suitable tissues were determined as the root, the phloem and cambium layer of the shoots and the leaves, respectively. Significance and Impact of the Study: This study on seasonal variations of ‘Candidatus Phytoplasma pyri’ in different pear tissues has been first time investigated in Turkey. This preliminary data provides important knowledge on molecular detection of Ca. P. pyri, causal agent of pear decline disease for further studies and sertification-quarantine programmes of pear trees in Turkey., Amaç: Bu çalışmada, ülkemizde Bursa ilinde saptanmış olan armut yıkım fitoplazması (‘Candidatus Phytoplasma pyri’, PD) ile enfekteli 20 armut ağacı (Deveci çeşidi) seçilerek etmenin teşhis edilmesinde en uygun örnekleme zamanı ve bitki dokusunun belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem ve Bulgular: Yaprak, sürgün ve kök dokularında yıl boyunca örnekleme yapılırken çiçek dokuları Mart ayı, meyve dokuları ise Eylül ayında olmak üzere yılda bir kez testlenmiştir. Tüm örnekler P1/P7 ve fU5/rU3 üniversal primer çiftleri kullanılarak nested-PCR yöntemiyle analiz edilmiştir. Nested-PCR ürünleri RsaI ve SspI restriksiyon enzimleri ile kesime tabi tutulmuştur. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre farklı bitki dokularında ‘Ca. P. pyri ‘nin saptanma oranının büyük ölçüde örnek toplama peryoduna bağlı olduğunu ortaya koymuştur. Bursa ili koşullarında Deveci armut çeşidinin olgunlaşma dönemine göre sadece Eylül ayında örneklenen meyve dokularınde yüksek oranda ‘Ca. P. pyri’ tespit edilirken (% 100), bunu çiçek dokuları (%75) izlemiştir. Kök, sürgün ve yapraklarda ortalama tespit oranı sırasıyla % 43.75, 39.58 ve 16.25 olarak bulunmuştur. Elde edilen sonuçlar armut ağaçlarında ‘Ca P. pyri’ nin saptanması için en iyi bitki dokularının meyve kolumellası ve çiçek olduğunu göstermiştir. Bu fitoplazmanın kök dokulardaki en yüksek tespit oranı Kasım-Mart ayları arasında bulunurken, ülkemizde sürgün örneklerinde yaz ayları hariç bütün yıl tespit edilebildiği belirlenmiştir. Genel Yorum: 'Candidatus Phytoplasma pyri'nin testlenmesi için mevsimsel açıdan bir sınırlama olmaması durumunda en uygun dokular meyve ve çiçekler olup yıl boyunca testleme yapılması söz konusu olduğunda ise sırasıyla en uygun dokular kök, sürgünlerin floem ve kambiyum tabakası ve yapraklar olarak belirlenmiştir. Çalışmanın Önemi ve Etkisi: Farklı armut dokularında 'Candidatus Phytoplasma pyri' varlığının mevsimsel dağılımı konusunda yapılan bu çalışma ülkemizde ilk kez yapılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler, Türkiye’de armut ağaçlarında sertifikasyon-karantina programları için ve armut yıkım fitoplazmasının etmeni Ca. P. pyri’nin moleküler tespiti konusunda önemli bilgiler sağlamıştır.

Bu makale Halide Edib [Adıvar]’ın (1884-1964) İngiltere ile olan ilişkisini yazılarındaki ev sahibi, misafir ve işgalci kavramları üzerinden inceleyecektir. Halide Edib’in İngiltere ile olan ilişkisinde bu kavramların hem tarihi hem de söylemsel karşılıkları vardır. Bu kavramların söylemsel manalarına Haswell ve Haswell’in geliştirdiği misafirperverlik ve yazarlık çerçevesinden bakılacaktır. Haswell ve Haswell bu çerçeveyi sömürge ilişkileri üzerinden inşa etmiş olsa da, tespitlerini sömürge ilişkisi olmayan durumlarda da gözlemlemek mümkündür. İngiliz ordusunun İstanbul işgaline tanıklık etmiş, yazılarında Hindistan’a dair örnekler veren Halide Edib’in eserlerindeki İngiliz figürü genel edebiyat tarihinden tanıdığımız sömürgeci figürüyle örtüşmektedir. Yazarın en sevimsiz İngiliz karakteri olan Ateşten Gömlek’teki gazeteci Mr. Cook sömürgeci zihniyetini temsil eder. Halide Edib’in kahramanı Ayşe de okuyucuya bu sömürgeci söyleme nasıl karşılık verilmesi gerektiğini gösterir. Halide Edib böylelikle bir çeşit “metin ile karşılık verme” formülü geliştirmiş olur. Yazarın bu formülü elbette kendi ev sahibi, misafir, işgalci anlayışı ve yine kendi enternasyonalizm ve milliyetçilik anlayışı etrafında gelişir. Kariyerinin bir döneminde İngiltere’de sürgün hayatı geçirmek zorunda Halide Edib’in hayatındaki işgalci figürüne misafir olması bu kategorileri tekrar tekrar gözden geçirmesine sebep olur. İngiltere’deyken işgal anılarını İngilizce kaleme alan Halide Edib Türkiye’ye döndüğünde bu sefer İngilizleri Türklere anlatma görevini üstlenir. Bir İngiliz Edebiyatı okuyucusu ve Türk Edebiyatı yazarı olarak Halide Edib Haswell ve Haswell’in geliştirdiği ev sahibi-yazar ve misafir-okuyucu kategorilerini ters yüz eder. This article traces Halide Edib’s interactions with England and the English and the ways in which she represented them in writing. I argue her representations were governed by conceptions of host, guest and occupier- a triumvirate of relations that is informed by Haswell and Haswell’s understanding of hospitality and authoring. I examine how Halide Edib’s understanding of occupier and host, nationalism and internationalism were shaped as she witnessed the British occupation of Istanbul, as she set about writing columns for the independence of Turkey, maintaining her cosmopolitan approach. Halide Edib expressed her views of the English in fiction, memoir, and newspaper article format, dealing with different aspects of a nation in different contexts. The first impressions of England she had in 1909 remained with Halide Edib for a long time, as evidenced in the newspaper articles she wrote in 1939. Both during her earlier visit and years in exile, England introduced her to an international world of letters which she embraced for the rest of her life, and which led her to lecture in places such as the US and India. This article investigates the various methods she uses in describing the English throughout her career, in a way that both consolidates her initial impressions and recognizes the changing context.

This paper is a revised and extended version of my presentation at “the 16th International Cultural Studies Symposium: Narratives of Trauma.” (Bu makale, “16.Uluslararası kültürel çalışmalar Sempozyumu: Travmanın anlatıları" ndaki sunumumun gözden geçirilmiş ve genişletilmiş bir versiyonudur.”) Trauma studies have recently explored the influence of historical event and circumstance on art and how trauma is portrayed; for example, Modernism represents the embodiment of the theme of trauma, alienation and loneliness after the First World War. This connection is also discernible in the poetry of Edwin Muir who was born in 1887 and witnessed various great events of the twentieth century. However, Muir’s sense of trauma was not limited to only WWI, but the loss of people and places influenced his verse as well. The theme of loss and migration led Muir to a mythical and nostalgic past as a response to trauma. Due to migration to another city, his struggle with agony was blended with certain places; hence, his poetry elaborates on spatial aspects. In this regard, as it often does lead to feelings of nostalgia, trauma becomes central to understanding Muir’s poetry. In the centre of Muir’s trauma related to his abiding sense of nostalgia is a concentration on places, both historical and mythical. Therefore, this paper will explore the main connection between nostalgia and space in relation to Muir’s personal and collective trauma. Son yıllarda travma alanında yapılan çalışmalar, travmanın nasıl tanımlandığını, tarihsel olay ve şartların sanat üzerindeki etkisini araştırmaktadır; örneğin, Modernizm I. Dünya Savaşı sonrası ortaya çıkan travma, yabancılaşma ve yalnızlık temalarını yansıtır. Bu bağlantı 1887 yılında doğmuş ve yirminci yüzyılın pek çok büyük olayına tanıklık etmiş Edwin Muir’in şiirinde de görülebilir. Fakat Muir’in travma anlayışı sadece I. Dünya Savaşı ile sınırlı değildir; aynı zamanda, insanların ve mekânların kaybı da onun şiirini etkilemiştir. Travmayla birlikte, kayıp ve göç olayları da Muir’i mitik ve nostaljik bir geçmişe yöneltmiştir. Başka bir şehre göç ettiği için şairin çektiği ıstırap, belirli mekânlarla özdeşleşmiştir, bu sebeple Muir’in şiiri mekânsal özellikler üzerinde durur. Bu bakımdan, genellikle nostalji duygularına yol açtığı için travma Muir’in şiirini anlamak için merkezi bir rol oynar. Muir’in nostalji anlayışıyla bağlantılı travmasının merkezinde hem tarihsel hem de mitik bir mekânsal yoğunlaşma yer alır. Dolayısıyla bu çalışma, Muir’in kişisel ve genel travmasına bağlı olarak nostalji ve mekân arasındaki başlıca bağlantıyı inceleyecektir.

The city of Maraş has been located geographically at the intersection of East Anatolia, Southeast Anatolia and Middle Anatolia regions. The city functioned as the capital city of Gurgum Kingdom which was one of Late Hitit cities due to its location and became an important center for long years at the intersection of trade ways passing through the region. Native people mostly dealt with agriculture and ranching to keep on living. The city has benefited from the advantages of being located on a plain next to Ceyhan River. Through the years, it became a region in which plenty kinds of fruits and vegetables were harvested. At the same time the city was an important region because of native people’s arts and crafts. The city always attracted the attention of domestic as well as foreign people due to the growing rice and cotton which were really precious industrial plants. The city of Maraş which is the main topic of this article became a station of food supplies for the army during World War I because of all these features. Sometimes arguments had taken place between the native people and the army for rice and other kinds of supplies which the city had given to the army. The city’s socioeconomic visage was changed with loss of population due to epidemics of diseases as the consequence of wars and exiles from the neighboring regions during the wars. The wartorn city was destroyed and put into fire due to many attacks during the period of National Struggle. That’s why the city needed a long time period to repair itself.

Cezâyir-i Bahr-i Sefîd Eyâleti içindeki sancaklardan biri olarak Rodos Adası, donanmanın deniz seferleri için merkezi bir geçiş noktasıydı. Rodos, gemi yapımı ve tamiri; ayrıca sürgün edilen devlet adamlarının gönderildiği önemli bir yerdi. Türkler ve Yahudiler sadece kale içindeki şehirde yoğundu. Rumlar nüfus olarak köylerde çoğunluktaydı. Adada genel olarak Kanuni Vakfı’nın etkisi ve üstelik Müslüman hayırseverler vardı. Hristiyanlar ve Museviler kendi cemaatleri içinde oldukça serbest yaşamıştı. Üstelik Yahudiler cemaat içi yapılanmalarında bir esnaf teşkilatı oluşturmuşlardı. Rodos’ta halktan çeşitli vergiler alınmıştı. Ada, tımar birimlerine ayrılmıştı. Adada iktisadî durum bir kanunnâme ile düzenlenmişti. Rhodes Island was a central transit point for the maritime campaigns of the navy as one of the sanjaks in the State of Cezâyir-i Bahr-i Sefîd. Rhodes was an important place for shipbuilding and repair; also that sent of the exiled statesmen. Turks and Jews only were dense in the town that inside of the castle. Greeks were the majority as the population in villages. There was generally the influence of Kanuni Foundation and besides Muslim benefactors in Rhodes. Christians and Jews had lived as fairly unrestricted in their communities. Furthermore Jews had formed an artisan organization in the structuring that within their community. It was taken the assorted taxes from the people in Rhodes. The island was divided into the fief units. The economic situation was arranged with a code in the island.

Edebiyat ve sanat tarihi boyunca surgun, bir cok yazar ve sairin makus talihi olmustur. Yazarlar ve sanatcilar kimi zaman fikirleri, kimi zaman yazdiklari, kimi zaman da toplumsal baski nedeniyle zorunlu veya gonullu bir gocun/surgunun oznesi olabilmektedirler. Bu calismada, once zorunlu sonra gonullu gocu/surgunu ve yersiz-yurtsuzluk halini yasayan cagdas yazarlarimizdan Nedim Gursel ve yazini, bu olgunun yazar ve edebiyatina yansimalari sosyolojik ve etno-psikolojik acidan irdelenmeye calisilacaktir. Bireyin aidiyet hissiyle baglandigi mekândan ve kendine ait yasam bicimlerinden koparilmasi, onun kulturel koklerinden ve insani baglarindan da koparilmasidir ve bu durum bir yazar icin edebi esin kaynaklarinin da hem cesitlenmesi ve varsillasmasi, hem de sarsilmasi anlamina gelir. Bu varsillik ve sarsinti edebi malzeme olarak kimi zaman olumlu etkiler yaratsa da, yazarin yasami ve yazini uzerinde derin izler birakmaktadir. Nedim Gursel, bu izleri hem olumlu hem de olumsuz yonleriyle ornekleyen, surgunluk ve gonullu gocebelik hallerini zitliklarina ragmen ayni bunyede barindiran, gonulden ve ozu itibariyle bagli oldugu ve kendini daha cok ait hissettigi, koklerinin bulundugu memleketi ile bulundugu yerleri ayni potada eritmeyi basaran bir yazardir. Bu calismada, yazarin ani ve gezi yazilarindan olusan Hatirla Barbara ve oykulerini derledigi Sevgilim Istanbul eserleri ile gocun/surgunun biyografik ve kurgusal metinlerdeki yansimalarini ortaya koymak hedeflenmektedir. Calismada ayrica, 21. yuzyilin surgunluk ve gocebelik hallerinin kendine ozgu yapisi da degerlendirilecektir. ENGLISH ABSTRACT “Bin parcaya bolunmus yuz” an exile of language, memory and place with an enlarged world: exile and nomandic aspects in Nedim Gursel Exile has been the ill fate of so many author and poet throughout the literature and art history. Authors and artists can be subjected to a forced or voluntary migration/exile because of sometimes their thoughts, some time their writings, and sometimes social pressure. In this study, Nedim Gursel, one of the contemporary authors who lived first the forced migration/exile, then the voluntary one, and experienced the situation of being homelessness, and his literature, the influences of these situations will be tried to analyse in sociological and ethnopsychological aspects. A person is also expelled from her/his cultural roots and humane connection by being expelled from the place being connected with a sense of belonging, and the life styles. But for an author, this situation means diversity, richness and shock on her/his literal inspire. Even if this richness and shock sometimes create positive effects as literal material, it leaves traces on the life and literature of the author. Nedim Gursel is an author that exemplifies these traces both with positive and negative aspects, contains the exile and voluntary migration within himself despite their adverseness, achieves melting his homeland, to which he is sincerely connected and fells belong, with the placed that he leaves. In this study, it is targeted to reveal the reflections of migration/exile on Hatirla Barbara , the book composes of memoir and travel writings, and Sevgilim Istanbul in which short stories of the author collected. The exile and migration cases of 21 th century will be also evaluated in this study.
