Population aging is considered a worldwide phenomenon, which is reflected in the increase in life expectancy of the population. Accompanied by this, there was an increase in the number of chronic non-communicable diseases. The accumulation of these diseases in the same individual is known as multimorbidity. This condition is considered a public health problem due to its high frequency and its relationship with poor quality of life, functional decline and mortality, which hinders the performance of health services. Thus, it is essential to identify the findings related to the presence of multimorbidity in this public, in order to systematize evidence and suggest the redesign of public policies and care programs aimed at the elderly population, especially those in the rural context. A scoping review protocol is proposed to identify and map what is in the literature about multimorbidity in elderly people living in rural areas. The scope review protocol was built based on the Joanna Briggs Institute manual and guided through the PRISMA-ScR. Articles, official documents, dissertations and theses will be included after consulting the following databases: LILACS, PubMed, Embase, SciELO, Scopus, Web of Science and gray literature. No language or date limits will be set. The authors will develop a spreadsheet for data extraction. Qualitative data (thematic analysis) and quantitative data (simple descriptive statistics) will be analyzed. The results of the scope review will present the main findings, challenges, limitations, impacts and possible gaps regarding multimorbidity in elderly people living in rural areas.
