In the United States, maternal health inequities disproportionately affect Global Majority (e.g., Asian, Black, and Hispanic) populations. Despite a substantial body of research underscoring the influence of racism on these inequities, little research has examined how experiences of gendered racial microaggressions during pregnancy and birth impact racially and ethnically diverse Global Majority pregnant and birthing people in obstetric hospital settings. We evaluated the psychometric properties of an adapted version of Lewis & Neville's Gendered Racial Microaggressions Scale, using data collected from 417 Global Majority birthing people. Findings from our study indicate that our adapted GRMS is a valid tool for assessing the experiences of gendered racial microaggressions in hospital-based obstetric care settings among Global Majority pregnant and birthing people whose preferred languages are English or Spanish. Item Response Theory (IRT) analysis demonstrated high construct validity of the adapted GRMS scale (Root Mean Square Error of Approximation = 0.1089 (95% CI 0.0921, 0.1263), Comparative Fit Index = 0.977, Standardized Root Mean Square Residual = 0.075, log-likelihood c2 = -85.6, df = 8). IRT analyses demonstrated that the unidimensional model was preferred to the bi-dimensional model as it was more interpretable, had lower AIC and BIC, and all items had large discrimination parameters onto a single factor (all discrimination parameters > 3.0). Given that we found similar response profiles among Black and Hispanic respondents, our Differential Item Functioning analyses support validity among Black, Hispanic, and Spanish-speaking birthing people. Inter-item correlations demonstrated adequate scale reliability, α = 0.97, and empirical reliability = 0.67. Pearsons correlations was used to assess the criterion validity of our adapted scale. Our scale's total score was significantly and positively related to postpartum depression and anxiety. Researchers and practitioners should seek to address instances of gendered racial microaggressions in obstetric settings, as they are manifestations of systemic and interpersonal racism, and impact postpartum health. In this paper we study and characterise independence in near-vector spaces constructed using copies of finite fields. We show that for regular near-vector spaces of this nature, independence is equivalent to the notion of independence in the associated vector space. We prove that for the construction where the number of maximal regular subspaces coincides with the dimension, there are more elements outside of the quasi-kernel which can generate the entire space than previously thought. Multilingual learners live in a digital world where they can access and create knowledge in multiple modes through digital tools. Yet, teachers are often not supported in harnessing these resources to capitalize on students' linguistic and cultural repertoires. The authors reflect on data from teachers indicating a need to support teachers as they engage students in digital composition with asset orientations, such as translanguaging. Translanguaging with digital, collaborative writing is presented as a strategy based on author insights from classroom teaching. The incidence of paediatric fractures among winter sport athletes is not adequately studied. Our objective was to categorize fractures that occurred in paediatric skiers and snowboarders at a single ski resort. X-rays of 756 skiers/snowboarders aged 3–17 diagnosed with a fracture were categorized using the Salter-Harris (SH) classification. SH fractures were seen in 158 (21%) patients, with 123 (77%) being Type II. There were no significant differences between patients with a SH fracture and patients with a non-SH fracture for age, sex, snowboarding or skiing, mechanism of injury, terrain or the resort conditions on the day of injury. The most common mechanism of injury was falling onto snow while collisions resulted in more severe injuries. Compared to fractures without growth plate involvement, a higher proportion of SH fractures were seen in the humerus, radius, fibula and thumb; a lower proportion of SH fractures were observed at the tibia and clavicle. Responses to COVID-19 within medical education prompted significant changes to the surgical clerkship. We analyzed the changes in medical student end of course feedback before and after the COVID-19 outbreak. Postclerkship surveys from 2017 to 2022 were analyzed including both Likert scale data and free text, excluding the COVID outbreak year 2019-2020. Likert scale questions were compared between pre-COVID (2017-2019) and COVID-era cohorts (2020-2022) with the Mann–Whitney U -test. Free-text comments were analyzed using both thematic analysis and natural language processing including sentiment, word and phrase frequency, and topic modeling. Of the 483 medical students surveyed from 2017 to 2022, 297 responded (61% response rate) to the included end of clerkship surveys. Most medical students rated the clerkship above average or excellent with no significant difference between the pre-COVID and COVID-era cohorts (70.4% Versus 64.8%, P = 0.35). Perception of grading expectations did significantly differ, 51% of pre-COVID students reported clerkship grading standards were almost always clear compared to 27.5% of COVID-era students (P = 0.01). Pre-COVID cohorts more frequently mentioned learning and feedback while COVID-era cohorts more frequently mentioned case, attending, and expectation. Natural language processing topic modeling and formal thematic analysis identified similar themes: team, time, autonomy, and expectations. COVID-19 presented many challenges to undergraduate medical education. Despite many changes, there was no significant difference in clerkship satisfaction ratings. Unexpectedly, the greater freedom and autonomy of asynchronous lectures and choice of cases became a highlight of the new curriculum. On behalf of the Canadian Association of Psychosocial Oncology, we are pleased to present the Abstracts from the 2024 Annual Conference, titled "Building Hope: Integrating Sustainable, Innovative and Accessible Care in Psychosocial Oncology". The Conference was held in Calgary from 6 June 2024 to 7 June 2024. This conference brought together key stakeholders including multidisciplinary professionals from nursing, psychology, psychiatry, social work, spiritual care, nutrition, medicine, rehabilitation medicine, occupational health and radiation therapy for both adult and pediatric populations. Participants included clinicians, researchers, educators in cancer care, community-based organizations and patient representatives. Patients, caregivers and family members presented abstracts that speak to their role in managing cancer experiences and care. Over one hundred (150) abstracts were selected for presentation as symposia, 20 min oral presentations, 10 min oral presentations, 90 min workshops and poster presentations. An objective of a total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is to restore native (i.e. healthy) function, and a crucial step is determining the correct insert thickness for each patient. If the insert is too thick, then stiffness results, and if too thin, then instability results. Two methods to determine the insert thickness are by manually assessing the joint laxity and by using a trial insert with goniometric markings that measures the internal-external rotation of the trial with respect to a mark on the femoral component. The former is qualitative and depends on the surgeon's experience and 'feel' and while the latter is quantitative, it can be used only with an insert with medial ball-in-socket conformity. An unexplored method is to measure the force required to push a trial insert into position. To determine whether this method has merit, the push force was measured in 30 patients undergoing unrestricted kinematically aligned TKA using an insert with ball-in-socket medial conformity, a flat lateral surface, and retention of the posterior cruciate ligament. During surgery, the surgeon determined three appropriate thicknesses to test from a selection ranging from 10 mm to 14 mm in 1 mm increments. The peak push forces going from an insert 1 mm thinner than the correct thickness as determined by an insert goniometer and from the correct thickness to 1 mm thicker were measured. Mean peak forces for the different insert thicknesses were 127 ± 104 N, 127 ± 95 N, and 144 ± 96 N for 1 mm thinner, correct, and 1 mm thicker, respectively, and did not differ (p = 0.3210). As a result, measurement of peak force during trial positioning of a tibial insert cannot be used to identify the correct thickness for all insert designs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A pediatric normal tissue effects in the clinic (PENTEC) comprehensive review of patients with childhood cancer who received radiation therapy (RT) to the liver was performed to develop models that may inform RT dose constraints for the liver and improve risk forecasting of toxicities. A systematic literature search was performed to identify published data on hepatic toxicities in children. Treatment and outcome data were extracted and used to generate normal tissue complication probability (NTCP) models. Complications from both whole and partial liver irradiation were considered. For whole liver irradiation, total body irradiation and non–total body irradiation treatments were considered, but it was assumed that the entire liver received the prescribed dose. For partial liver irradiation, only Wilms tumor flank field RT could be analyzed. However, a prescribed dose assumption could not be applied, and there was a paucity of analyzable liver dosimetry data. To associate the dose-volume exposures with the partial volume complication data from flank irradiation, liver dose-volume metrics were reconstructed for Wilms tumor flank RT using age-specific computational phantoms as a function of field laterality and superior extent of the field. The literature search identified 2103 investigations pertaining to hepatic sinusoidal obstructive syndrome (SOS) and liver failure in pediatric patients. All abstracts were screened, and 241 articles were reviewed in full by the study team. A model was developed to calculate the risk of developing SOS after whole liver RT. RT dose (P =.006) and receipt of nonalkylating chemotherapy (P =.01) were significant. Age <20 years at time of RT was borderline significant (P =.058). The model predicted a 2% risk of SOS with zero RT dose, 6.1% following 10 Gy, and 14.5% following 20 Gy to the whole liver (modeled as the linear-quadratic equivalent dose in 2-Gy fractions [α/β = 3 Gy]). Patients with Wilms tumor treated with right flank RT had a higher observed rate of SOS than patients receiving left flank RT, but data were insufficient to generate an NTCP model for partial liver irradiation. From the phantom-based dose reconstructions, mean liver dose was estimated to be 2.16 ± 1.15 Gy and 6.54 ± 2.50 Gy for left and right flank RT, respectively, using T10-T11 as the superior field border and a prescription dose of 10.8 Gy (based on dose reconstruction). Data were sparse regarding rates of late liver injury after RT, which suggests low rates of severe toxicity after treatment for common pediatric malignancies. This pediatric normal tissue effects in the clinic (PENTEC) review provides an NTCP model to estimate the risk of hepatic SOS as a function of RT dose following whole liver RT and quantifies the range of mean liver doses from typical Wilms tumor flank irradiation fields. Patients treated with right flank RT had higher rates of SOS than patients treated with left flank RT, but data were insufficient to develop a model for partial liver irradiation. This article relies on the first and only representative survey data to estimate household carbon footprints (CFs) of China's large yet vastly understudied ethnic minority population, documenting for the first time significant ethnic disparities in CFs driven by ethnic minorities' relatively worse-off living standards: From 2010 to 2020, China's ethnic minority population contributed less than 6 percent of residential emissions, about 50 percent less than expected based on population share alone. Next, results from a counterfactual policy analysis find that the distributive effects of a carbon tax are regressive in urban areas but not in rural areas, increasing within and between ethnic group inequality in urban China. A carbon tax with revenue-neutral schemes, by contrast, helps to mitigate existing inequalities in society, reducing income- and ethnic-based forms of inequality. Results are robust to machine learning techniques employed to simulate potential heterogeneous household abatement scenarios. The findings emphasize the potential benefits of a carbon tax, contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of climate justice and informing policy decisions that promote equitable outcomes for vulnerable segments of society. This exploratory study investigated the disruption to schools ministry caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Perspectives of church leaders, Christian parents, Christian teachers and organisations involved in schools ministry were consulted using online surveys, interviews and focus groups, to examine how schools ministry could be rebuilt, incorporating reflective practice and hence bringing positive change. The severe impact of extensive school closures and restrictions strongly solidified the move from being largely provision of RE, lunchtime events and collective worship, to much broader methods in response to listening to the needs of the school (both staff and pupils in a secular/mainstream setting). A striking observation was that schools ministry was viewed in many of these case study settings as a peripheral aspect of local church ministry and often devolved to specialist organisations. Arising needs and models of ministry have emphasised the value and effectiveness of relational approaches and listening to the needs of schools and responding accordingly. This reinforces the need for collaborative approaches and long-term development of relationships between church and school. Training needs identified concerned relationship building and vision and strategy development, with many stakeholders perceiving this as the way forward to more effective ministry activity. Mathematical models highlighted the importance of pathogen‐mediated invasion, with the replacement of red squirrels by squirrelpox virus (SQPV) carrying grey squirrels in the UK, a well‐known example.In this study, we combine new epidemiological models, with a range of infection characteristics, with recent longitudinal field and experimental studies on the SQPV dynamics in red and grey squirrel populations to better infer the mechanistic basis of the disease interaction.A key finding is that a model with either partial immunity or waning immunity and reinfection, where individuals become seropositive on the second exposure to infection, that up to now has been shown in experimental data only, can capture the key aspects of the field study observations.By fitting to SQPV epidemic observations in isolated red squirrel populations, we can infer that SQPV transmission between red squirrels is significantly (4×) higher than the transmission between grey squirrels and as a result our model shows that disease‐mediated replacement of red squirrels by greys is considerably more rapid than replacement in the absence of SQPV.Our findings recover the key results of the previous model studies, which highlights the value of simple strategic models that are appropriate when there are limited data, but also emphasise the likely complexity of immune interactions in wildlife disease and how models can help infer disease processes from field data. Background: Diagnostic errors cause significant patient harm. The clinician's ultimate goal is to achieve diagnostic excellence in order to serve patients safely. This can be accomplished by learning from both errors and successes in patient care. However, the extent to which clinicians grow and navigate diagnostic errors and successes in patient care is poorly understood. Clinically experienced hospitalists, who have cared for numerous acutely ill patients, should have great insights from their successes and mistakes to inform others striving for excellence in patient care. Objective: To identify and characterize clinical lessons learned by experienced hospitalists from diagnostic errors and successes. Design: A semi-structured interview guide was used to collect qualitative data from hospitalists at five independently administered hospitals in the Mid-Atlantic area from February to June 2022. Participants: 12 academic and 12 community-based hospitalists with ≥ 5 years of clinical experience. Approach: A constructivist qualitative approach was used and "reflexive thematic analysis" of interview transcripts was conducted to identify themes and patterns of meaning across the dataset. Results: Five themes were generated from the data based on clinical lessons learned by hospitalists from diagnostic errors and successes. The ideas included appreciating excellence in clinical reasoning as a core skill, connecting with patients and other members of the health care team to be able to tap into their insights, reflecting on the diagnostic process, committing to growth, and prioritizing self-care. Conclusions: The study identifies key lessons learned from the errors and successes encountered in patient care by clinically experienced hospitalists. Introduction/Purpose: There is a well-established association between preexisting depression/anxiety and greater postconcussion symptom burden, but the potential impact of antidepressant medications has not been fully explored. The primary objective of this study was to compare preinjury/baseline and postinjury concussion symptomscores and neurocognitive performance of athletes on antidepressant medications, both with healthy controls and with those with depression/anxiety not on antidepressants. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study using data collected from 49,270 junior and high school athletes from computerized neurocognitive assessments (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Test [ImPACT]) administered between 2009 and 2018 held by the Massachusetts Concussion Management Coalition. The main outcome measures were symptom scores and neurocognitive performance measures, all of which were assessed both at baseline and postinjury. Statistical analysis included analysis of variance and Tukey pairwise comparisons for continuous variables and Fisher's exact test for categorical variables. Multivariate regression models were used to adjust for potential confounding variables. Results: Both at baseline and postinjury, athletes with depression/anxiety had mean total symptom scores that were more than double that of healthy controls regardless of antidepressant use. Although there were no significant differences in neurocognitive performance at baseline, depression/anxiety was associated with small but significant decreases in postinjury visual memory and visual motor scores. Conclusions: Both at baseline and after sustaining a concussion, young athletes with depression/anxiety experience significantly greater symptom burden compared with healthy controls regardless of antidepressant use. To ensure the benefits of cranberry dietary supplement products, the anti-adhesion activity (AAA) against uropathogenic bacteria is routinely used in in vitro bioassays to determine the activity in whole product formulations, isolated compounds, and ex vivo bioassays to assess urinary activity following intake. D-mannose is another dietary supplement taken for UTI prevention, based on the anti-adhesion mechanism.Compare the relative AAA of cranberry and D-mannose dietary supplements against the most important bacterial types contributing to the pathogenesis of UTI, and consider how certain components potentially induce in vivo activity.The current study used a crossover design to determine ex vivo AAA against both P- and Type 1-fimbriated uropathogenic Escherichia coli of either D-mannose or a cranberry fruit juice dry extract product containing 36 mg of soluble proanthocyanidins (PACs), using bioassays that measure urinary activity following consumption. AAA of extracted cranberry compound fractions and D-mannose were compared in vitro and potential induction mechanisms of urinary AAA explored.The cranberry dietary supplement exhibited both P-type and Type 1 in vitro and ex vivo AAA, while D-mannose only prevented Type 1 adhesion. Cranberry also demonstrated more robust and consistent ex vivo urinary AAA than D-mannose over each 1-week study period at different urine collection time points. The means by which the compounds with in vitro activity in each supplement product could potentially induce the AAA in urines was discussed relative to the data.Results of the current study provide consumers and healthcare professionals with additional details on the compounds and mechanisms involved in the positive, broad-spectrum AAA of cranberry against both E. coli bacterial types most important in UTIs and uncovers limitations on AAA and effectiveness of D-mannose compared to cranberry. This design-based research (DBR) study investigated the following research question: How can the HyFlex instructional model be leveraged to create more accessible and equitable education for graduate students? To address this question, the researchers explored two education doctoral courses in the USA, with 37 participants for one semester. The essential elements of the intervention included the following: digital, multimodal tools; equity of online and face-to-face learning environments; and engagement in community. A mixed methods approach to data collection and analysis was utilised in accordance with the DBR framework, including inhibiting and enhancing factors of the intervention, modifications made, unanticipated outcomes, and progress towards the goal. The Canadian Arctic Archipelago (CAA) serves as both a source and a sink for sea ice from the Arctic Ocean, while also exporting sea ice into Baffin Bay. We use observations from Sentinel-1, RADARSAT-2, the RADARSAT Constellation Mission (RCM), and CryoSat-2, together with the Canadian Ice Service ice charts, to quantify sea ice transport and replenishment across and within the CAA from 2016 to 2022. We also provide the first estimates of the ice area and volume flux within the CAA from the Queen Elizabeth Islands to Parry Channel, which spans the central region of the Northwest Passage shipping route. Results indicate that the CAA primarily exports ice to the Arctic Ocean and Baffin Bay, with an average annual (October to September) ice area flux of 137 ± 72 × 10 3 km 2 and a volume flux of 58 ± 68 km 3. The CAA contributes a larger area but smaller volume of ice downstream to the North Atlantic than what is delivered via Nares Strait. The average annual ice area flux from the Queen Elizabeth Islands to Parry Channel was 27 ± 10 × 10 3 km 2 and the volume flux was 34 ± 12 km 3 , with a majority occurring through Byam Martin Channel, which is directly above the central region of Northwest Passage. Over our study period, annual multi-year ice (MYI) replenishment within the CAA was resilient, with an average of 14 ± 38 × 10 3 km 2 imported from the Arctic Ocean and an average of 56 ± 36 × 10 3 km 2 of first-year ice (FYI) retained following the melt season. The considerable ice flux to Parry Channel, together with sustained MYI replenishment, emphasizes the continued risk that sea ice poses to practical utilization of key shipping routes in the CAA, including the Northwest Passage. This paper shares findings from a project that examined how schools serving marginalised communities facilitated students' substantive engagement. Through interviews with students, parents, teachers and school leaders, we determined that substantive engagement was supported by formal and informal strategies that enabled access to rich learning opportunities, the provision of welcoming school and classroom climates, and the enactment of pedagogies of care and school-wide programmes focused on substantive engagement. There were four key areas of substantive engagement: engaging curriculum and pedagogy, engaging school climate, engaging with learners, and engaging with communities. Strategies to support engagement included the removal of barriers to learning, such as assistance with breakfast or public transport, nurturing a positive school climate, providing support for ethnic groups and the delivery of alternative or flexible programmes. Drawing on the findings from five case studies, we propose four principles for substantive student engagement in complex contexts, which will be useful for school leaders and teachers who work in schools that serve marginalised communities. Immunotherapies have revolutionized cancer treatment. These treatments rely on immune cell activation in tumours, which limits the number of patients that respond. Inflammatory molecules, like lipopolysaccharides (LPS), can activate innate immune cells, which convert tumour microenvironments from cold to hot, and increase therapeutic efficacy. However, systemic delivery of lipopolysaccharides (LPS) can induce cytokine storm. In this work, we developed immune‐controlling Salmonella (ICS) that only produce LPS in tumours after colonization and systemic clearance. We tuned the expression of msbB, which controls production of immunogenic LPS, by optimizing its ribosomal binding sites and protein degradation tags. This genetic system induced a controllable inflammatory response and increased dendritic cell cross‐presentation in vitro. The strong off state did not induce TNFα production and prevented adverse events when injected into mice. The accumulation of ICS in tumours after intravenous injection focused immune responses specifically to tumours. Tumour‐specific expression of msbB increased infiltration of immune cells, activated monocytes and neutrophils, increased tumour levels of IL‐6, and activated CD8 T cells in draining lymph nodes. These immune responses reduced tumour growth and increased mouse survival. By increasing the efficacy of bacterial anti‐cancer therapy, localized production of LPS could provide increased options to patients with immune‐resistant cancers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: for kinematic alignment (KA) total knee arthroplasty (TKA), it was unknown whether 'the pace of recovery' at six weeks was different for patients with ages ranging between 50–59, 60–69, 70–79, and 80–89 years who were discharged on the surgery day and self-administered their rehabilitation. Methods: a single surgeon treated 206 consecutive patients with a KA-designed femoral component and an insert with a medial ball-in-socket, lateral flat articulation, and PCL retention. Each filled out preoperative and six-week Oxford Knee Score (OKS), Knee Society Score (KSS), Knee Function Score (KFS), and Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score for Joint Replacement (KOOS, JR) questionnaires. The six-week minus preoperative value indicated improvement. Results: between age cohorts, the improvement was not different (p = 0.2319 to 0.9888). The mean improvement/six-week postoperative value was 6°/−2° for knee extension, 0°/119° for knee flexion, 7/31 for the OKS, 39/96 for the KSS, 7/64 for the KFS, and 13/62 for the KOOS. The 30-day hospital readmission rate was 1%. Conclusion: surgeons who perform KA TKA can counsel 50 to 89-year-old patients that they can be safely discharged home on the surgery day with a low risk of readmission and can achieve better function at six weeks than preoperatively when performing exercises without a physical therapist. In parallel with the multi-messenger revolution, major advances in time-domain astronomy across multiple science disciplines relevant to astrophysics are becoming more urgent to address. Aside from electromagnetic observations of gravitational wave events and explosive counterparts, there are a number of "classical" astrophysical areas that require new thinking for proper exploration in the time domain. How NASA, NSF, ESA, and ESO consider the 2020 USA Decadal Survey within the astronomy community, as well as the worldwide call to support and expand time domain and multi-messenger astrophysics, it is crucial that all areas of astrophysics, including stellar, galactic, Solar System, and exoplanetary science participate in the discussion, and that it not be made into an exclusive preserve of cosmological, high-energy, explosive and transient science. Time domain astronomy is used to explore many aspects of astrophysics-particularly concerning ground- and space-based mission science goals of exploring how the Universe works, understanding how did we get here, and are we alone. Time domain studies are already built into the core operations of many currently operating and future space telescopes (e.g., Roman, PLATO) as well as current and planned large areal ground-based surveys (e.g., Rubin). Time-domain observations designed for one scientific purpose, also lead to great discoveries in many other science areas. The recent advent of user-friendly hardware, software, observational approaches, and online data infrastructure has also helped make time domain observations especially suitable and appealing for citizen science projects. We provide a review of the current state of TDAMM alerts and observational protocols, revealing a wide array of software and applications, much of which is incompatible. Aim: This study aims to explore regional variation and identify regions within Australia with high incidence of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) and low rates of bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Method: Adult OHCAs of presumed medical aetiology occurring across Australia between 2017 and 2019 were mapped onto local government areas (LGA) using the location of arrest coordinates. Bayesian spatial models were applied to provide "smoothed" estimates of OHCA incidence and bystander CPR rates (for bystander-witnessed OHCAs) for each LGA. For each state and territory, high-risk LGAs were defined as those with an incidence rate greater than the state or territory's 75th percentile and a bystander CPR rate less than the state or territory's 25th percentile. Results: A total of 62,579 OHCA cases attended by emergency medical services across 543 LGAs nationwide were included in the study. Nationally, the OHCA incidence rate across LGA ranged from 58.5 to 198.3 persons per 100,000, while bystander CPR rates ranged from 45% to 75%. We identified 60 high-risk LGAs, which were predominantly located in the state of New South Wales. Within each region, high-risk LGAs were typically located in regional and remote areas of the country, except for four metropolitan areas–two in Adelaide and two in Perth. Conclusions: We have identified high-risk LGAs, characterised by high incidence and low bystander CPR rates, which are predominantly in regional and remote areas of Australia. This systematic literature review synthesises 49 studies exploring teacher professional development (PD) focused on the education of multilingual learners (MLs). Specifically, we examined PD design for in-service mainstream classroom teachers serving MLs in early elementary grades. We followed the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines for transparent reporting in systematic reviews, including the four phases of identification, screening, eligibility, and inclusion. Findings show that although the content of PD has covered foundational literacy areas, such as vocabulary and comprehension, more attention is needed on integration of culture and MLs’ linguistic repertoires. Results also show that PD with positive outcomes is ongoing, collaborative, and includes multiple stakeholders. However, there is room for the inclusion of family and teacher voice. We conclude by arguing that future research on PD within the context of ML education should explore long-term impact of interventions on teachers and students and focus on leadership roles to expand instructional capacity for MLs. Background: Recent systematic reviews show varying methods for eliciting, modelling, and reporting preference-based values for child health-related quality-of-life (HRQoL) outcomes, thus producing value sets with different characteristics. Reporting in many of the reviewed studies was found to be incomplete and inconsistent, making them difficult to assess. Checklists can help to improve standards of reporting; however, existing checklists do not address methodological issues for valuing child HRQoL. Existing checklists also focus on reporting methods and processes used in developing HRQoL values, with less focus on reporting of the values' key characteristics and properties. We aimed to develop a checklist for studies generating values for child HRQoL, including for disease-specific states and value sets for generic child HRQoL instruments. Development: A conceptual model provided a structure for grouping items into five modules. Potential items were sourced from an adult HRQoL checklist review, with additional items specific to children developed using recent reviews. Checklist items were reduced by eliminating duplication and overlap, then refined for relevance and clarity via an iterative process. Long and short checklist versions were produced for different user needs. The resulting long RETRIEVE contains 83 items, with modules for reporting methods (A–D) and characteristics of values (E), for researchers planning and reporting child health valuation studies. The short RETRIEVE contains 14 items for decision makers or researchers choosing value sets. Conclusion: Applying the RETRIEVE checklists to relevant studies suggests feasibility. RETRIEVE has the potential to improve completeness in the reporting of preference-based values for child HRQOL outcomes and to improve assessment of preference-based value sets. Creativity has many benefits, such as workplace performance and life satisfaction. Three studies extended a small body of work to examine whether awe was associated with creative personality, convergent creativity, and everyday creative behaviors (N = 1,844). Study 1 demonstrated that trait awe was associated with a more creative personality among adolescents and adults in the U.S., Iran, and Malaysia. Study 2 showed that trait awe was associated with an increased likelihood of solving the Duncker's Candle Problem. Finally, Study 3 found that on days when participants felt more daily awe than they typically do, they reported having done more everyday creative activities. The effects of awe were independent of amusement (Studies 1–3) and Big Five personality (Study 3). Moreover, we found that daily curiosity explained the link between daily awe and daily creativity in Study 3. These results are the first to demonstrate a consistent link between awe and complementary measures of creativity. Oilfield production is controlled by a wide range of geological and engineering parameters, many of which are at least partially interrelated. This paper uses multivariate statistical methods (principal component analysis, regression analysis and analysis of variance) to determine how these parameters are related, and which of them are most significant in controlling and predicting oilfield performance. The analysis is based on a database of publicly available oilfield data from the United Kingdom Continental Shelf (UKCS), from which a series of geological, engineering and fluid‐related control variables from 136 fields were pre‐processed and analyzed. This dataset is a subset of a much wider project database for UKCS oil, gas and condensate fields. For this study, the project database was divided into two datasets: a first dataset with 10 parameters from 136 fields, and a second, more detailed dataset with 27 parameters from 38 fields. Both datasets were analysed using principal component analysis in order to investigate possible correlations between numerically/statistically interrogable predictor variables such as porosity, permeability, number of production wells, gas‐oil ratio and reservoir temperature. A regression analysis was then carried out on the predictor variables in order to obtain a ranking of predictability (i.e. how indicative a predictor is of a particular outcome) and sensitivity (how sensitive an outcome is to slight changes in a predictor) in relation to recovery factor based on R‐squared and regression coefficient values. The results showed that key variables from the principal component analysis included field size, number of production wells, PVT, gross depositional environment and reservoir quality. High‐ranking parameters of predictability and sensitivity from the regression analysis were found to include API, net‐to‐gross, porosity and reservoir depth. These results are consistent with previous studies and suggest that it should be possible to forecast oilfield recovery based on only a few selected input variables. As a preliminary test of forecasting ability of the variable permutations put forward, a best‐subsets multiple regression was carried out using a statistical software package and yielded results which corroborated the main findings. Although founding and directing an independent research laboratory is often expected of faculty at American universities, there are several barriers to successful completion of this important task. There is little guidance in the literature regarding exactly how to go about starting a research laboratory. The guidance that exists for faculty often focuses on running research labs in the "hard sciences," such as biomedical science and engineering, leaving social and behavioral scientists out of such considerations. Additionally, smaller or teaching-focused universities often have little infrastructure or support for starting a research lab, so faculty at these institutions may not know where to begin. These barriers are significant concerns for junior faculty, who are often unprepared for the realities and challenges of starting a successful research lab while obtaining other milestones required for promotion and tenure. We present two examples of recently-formed gerontology research laboratories begun by junior faculty, one in the psychology department of a research university and one in public health at a teaching-focused university. Our case studies present the reader with specific examples, lessons learned, and guidance for starting their own gerontology research laboratory in higher education, whether as a physical or virtual space, as well as recommendations on maintaining its functioning during a global pandemic. Demographic shifts and the growth of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives are occurring simultaneously on college campuses. This study seeks to understand their intersection by focusing on age in DEI initiatives on college campuses. Findings from six focus groups suggest that age is not given much attention in DEI initiatives. Participants acknowledge the issue of age; but in general, they strive to keep other identities, like race and gender, in the forefront, especially in the face of low resources. Background: Choledochal cysts are rare congenital anomalies of the biliary tree that may lead to obstruction, chronic inflammation, infection, and malignancy. There is wide variation in the timing of resection, operative approach, and reconstructive techniques. Outcomes have rarely been compared on a national level. Methods: We queried the Pediatric National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) to identify patients who underwent choledochal cyst excision from 2015 to 2020. Patients were stratified by hepaticoduodenostomy (HD) versus Roux‐en‐Y hepaticojejunostomy (RNYHJ), use of minimally invasive surgery (MIS), and age at surgery. We collected several outcomes, including length of stay (LOS), reoperation, complications, blood transfusions, and readmission rate. We compared outcomes between cohorts using nonparametric tests and multivariate regression. Results: Altogether, 407 patients met the study criteria, 150 (36.8%) underwent RNYHJ reconstruction, 100 (24.6%) underwent MIS only, and 111 (27.3%) were less than one year old. Patients who underwent open surgery were younger (median age 2.31 vs. 4.25 years, p = 0.002) and more likely underwent RNYHJ reconstruction (42.7% vs. 19%, p = 0.001). On adjusted analysis, the outcomes of LOS, reoperation, transfusion, and complications were similar between the type of reconstruction, operative approach, and age. Patients undergoing RNYHJ had lower rates of readmission than patients undergoing HD (4.0% vs. 10.5%, OR 0.34, CI [0.12, 0.79], p = 0.02). Conclusions: In children with choledochal cysts, most short‐term outcomes were similar between reconstructive techniques, operative approach, and age at resection, although HD reconstruction was associated with a higher readmission rate in this study. Objective: Emerging research challenges the one‐factor model of the future time perspective (FTP) scale by demonstrating two‐ and three‐factor models of the FTP scale. Method: Three samples (i.e., Switzerland and the United States; N = 2022) explored the factor structure, age pattern differences, tested the link between FTP factors, psychological well‐being, and life satisfaction, as well as age as a moderator. Results: We distinguished FTP into opportunities, extension, and constraint factors that corroborated previous research. We did not find a replicable curvilinear age pattern difference on any of the FTP factors. The association between extension and life satisfaction was stronger among younger than older adults. Alternatively, the association between constraint and life satisfaction was stronger among younger than older adults in Samples A and C, and the pattern was reversed in Sample B. Lastly, the association between constraint and environmental mastery was stronger among older adults than younger adults in Sample B and the pattern was reversed in Sample C. Conclusion: This variation in the perception of the future is different for people at different periods in life and has an important consequence for living life well, especially a focus on extension and lack of constraint. The genetic architecture of trait variance has long been of interest in genetics and evolution. One of the earliest attempts to understand this architecture was presented in Lerner's Genetic Homeostasis (1954). Lerner proposed that heterozygotes should be better able to tolerate environmental perturbations because of functional differences between the alleles at a given locus , with each allele optimal for slightly different environments. This greater robustness to environmental variance, he argued, would result in smaller trait variance for heterozygotes. The evidence for Lerner's hypothesis has been inconclusive. To address this question using modern genomic methods, we mapped loci associated with differences in trait variance (vQTL) on 1,101 individuals from the F34 of an advanced intercross between LG/J and SM/J mice. We also mapped epistatic interactions for these vQTL in order to understand the influence of epistasis for the architecture of trait variance. We did not find evidence supporting Lerner's hypothesis, that heterozygotes tend to have smaller trait variances than homozygotes. We further show that the effects of most mapped loci on trait variance are produced by epistasis affecting trait means and that those epistatic effects account for about a half of the differences in genotypic-specific trait variances. Finally, we propose a model where the different interactions between the additive and dominance effects of the vQTL and their epistatic partners can explain Lerner's original observations but can also be extended to include other conditions where heterozygotes are not the least variable genotype. This article discusses the use of Medicare administrative claims data to examine trends in the prescribing of diabetes medications to patients without a diabetes diagnosis code from 2007 to 2019. The study found that the number of prescriptions for glucose-lowering medications, particularly metformin, increased over time. Interestingly, most beneficiaries who were prescribed these medications did not have a diagnosis of prediabetes, metabolic syndrome, obesity, or a family history of diabetes. Otherwise, apparently cryptic mammals often have conspicuous patches of colour on distal regions of their body, possibly for signalling. To investigate ideas about communication within sociosexual contexts, we used a comparative dataset for 2726 terrestrial mammals to match the coloration and patterning of distal body areas (head, chest, rump and tail) to activity cycle, group size, sexual size dimorphism, mating system and congener overlap at both Class and Order levels. Using phylogenetic controls, we uncovered repeated associations between white colour patches and nocturnality, conspicuous rump patches and sexual selection and multicoloured, complex patterning on distal regions of the body being associated with small group size. Overall, however, we found rather few associations between conspicuous coloration and behavioural, social and morphological variables, suggesting that visual signalling is not a key driver of communication in mammals, perhaps because the majority are nocturnal and solitary, and rely on olfactory signalling. Constructing nests costs birds time and energy and may influence breeding success and productivity. The precise nature and extent of these costs is understudied, particularly among raptor species. We used linear and generalized linear mixed models to examine the time and reproductive costs of nest construction to Bald Eagles (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) in New Jersey, USA, from 2009 to 2021. To differentiate nest construction costs from the influence of experience, we separately analyzed the breeding performance and phenology of new pairs constructing nests, established pairs constructing nests, and established pairs reusing nests. We also considered the influence of weather, year, and ecoregion. New territorial pairs building nests were generally less successful and productive than established pairs building or reusing nests. However, these trends were largely attributable to a greater egg-laying rate among established pairs. Nest building pairs, new and established, were generally delayed in egg laying, hatching, and nestling fledging compared to established pairs reusing nests; new pairs were notably more delayed than established pairs building nests. Territorial pairs in the Atlantic Coastal Pine Barrens were less successful and productive than pairs in other ecoregions. Higher precipitation around the egg laying period was predictive of lower nest success and productivity rates but did not appear to affect phenology. Higher temperatures around this period also lowered these rates, with the further effect of advancing phenology. In New Jersey, climate change appears to be advancing breeding phenology and could constrain productivity by century's end, though we anticipate that density dependence will regulate and lower Bald Eagle breeding performance prior to this period. Breeding success and productivity rates, as well as the effects of year in our models, indicate that New Jersey's breeding Bald Eagle population is still healthy and growing. Overall, our results indicate that nest construction imposes minor temporal costs on Bald Eagles but does not meaningfully affect their breeding success or productivity, which may help inform management of Bald Eagle nests and populations. Background: Non‐word repetition (NWR) tests are an important way speech and language therapists (SaLTs) assess language development. NWR tests are often scored whilst participants make their responses (i.e., in real time) in clinical and research reports (documented here via a secondary analysis of a published systematic review). Aims: The main aim was to determine the extent to which real‐time coding of NWR stimuli at the whole‐item level (as correct/incorrect) was predicted by models that had varying levels of detail provided from phonemic transcriptions using several linear mixed method (LMM) models. Methods & Procedures: Live scores and recordings of responses on the universal non‐word repetition (UNWR) test were available for 146 children aged between 3 and 6 years where the sample included all children starting in five UK schools in one year or two consecutive years. Transcriptions were made of responses to two‐syllable NWR stimuli for all children and these were checked for reliability within and between transcribers. Signal detection analysis showed that consonants were missed when judgments were made live. Statistical comparisons of the discrepancies between target stimuli and transcriptions of children's responses were then made and these were regressed against live score accuracy. Six LMM models (three normalized: 1a, 2a, 3a; and three non‐normalized: 1b, 2b, 3b) were examined to identify which model(s) best captured the data variance. Errors on consonants for live scores were determined by comparison with the transcriptions in the following ways (the dependent variables for each pair of models): (1) consonants alone; (2) substitutions, deletions and insertions of consonants identified after automatic alignment of live and transcribed materials; and (3) as with (2) but where substitutions were coded further as place, manner and voicing errors. Outcomes & Results: The normalized model that coded consonants in non‐words as 'incorrect' at the level of substitutions, deletions and insertions (2b) provided the best fit to the real‐time coding responses in terms of marginal R2, Akaike's information criterion (AIC) and Bayesian information criterion (BIC) statistics. Conclusions & Implications: Errors that occur on consonants when non‐word stimuli are scored in real time are characterized solely by the substitution, deletion and insertion measure. It is important to know that such errors arise when real‐time judgments are made because NWR tasks are used to assess and diagnose several cognitive–linguistic impairments. One broader implication of the results is that future work could automate the analysis procedures to provide the required information objectively and quickly without having to transcribe data. WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS: What is already known on this subject: Children and patients with a wide range of cognitive and language difficulties are less accurate relative to controls when they attempt to repeat non‐words. Responses to non‐words are often scored as correct or incorrect at the time the test is conducted. Limited assessments of this scoring procedure have been conducted to date. What this study adds to the existing knowledge: Live NWR scores made by 146 children were available and the accuracy of these judgements was assessed here against ones based on phonemic transcriptions. Signal detection analyses showed that live scoring missed consonant errors in children's responses. Further analyses, using linear mixed effect models, showed that live judgments led to consonant substitution, deletion and insertion errors. What are the practical and clinical implications of this work?: Improved and practicable NWR scoring procedures are required to provide SaLTs with better indications about children's language development (typical and atypical) and for clinical assessments of older people. The procedures currently used miss substitutions, deletions and insertions. Hence, procedures are required that provide the information currently only available when materials are transcribed manually. Background: Cognitive communication disorder (CCD) following traumatic brain injury (TBI) is well documented and these communication problems impede successful re‐integration into community living. While there is growing evidence for intervention to both detect and treat the impact of these deficits across the rehabilitation continuum, there are barriers to accessing services. Cognitive communication impairments may be missed because the person can talk, and this may mask the subtle but debilitating impact of a CCD. Referral to a speech and language therapist (SLT) may be overlooked or not timely, which prevents the individual accessing evidence‐based interventions. Inadequate treatment provision and an under‐ or overestimation of communication capability can potentially undermine the effectiveness of wider team assessment and intervention. Aims: To report stakeholder views on specialist SLT input for CCD within a multidisciplinary team intervention for a community‐dwelling individual with severe TBI. The investigation explored perspectives on understanding of CCD, on practice and on outcomes, in order to inform professional groups on perceived impacts of the evidence‐to‐practice gap. Methods and Procedures: A semi‐structured interview methodology was employed with 11 stakeholder participants involved in a single case. Data were evaluated using a thematic framework method. Themes were inductively derived from the stakeholder narratives. Outcomes: Stakeholders reported the following outcomes from specialist SLT input for CCD within a collaborative team approach: improved engagement with rehabilitation and support teams, improved health‐related quality of life and well‐being, and increased client participation in community activities of personal relevance. Stakeholders also reported inequities in wider service provision where limitations in professional understanding of CCD and knowledge of best practice recommendations preclude access to specialist SLT services. Conclusions: CCDs are under‐recognised and this can have a devastating effect on people with CCD and on those around them. Stakeholder reports provide evidence for the effectiveness of SLT practice recommendations for the treatment of CCD following TBI. They also provide additional evidence of persisting barriers to accessing treatment. Future research to explore ways to close this evidence‐to‐practice gap is required. There is evidence for the effectiveness of person‐centred interventions for CCD across the recovery continuum. This chapter describes the results of a survey‐based study intended to provide insight into the existence and degree of empirical support for the elements of strong teaching cultures in colleges and universities where faculty members participate in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). The findings contribute to the larger body of literature on the importance of fostering strong teaching cultures in higher education and highlight the need for institutions to prioritize the support and recognition of faculty engaged in SoTL. This study explored the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on mental health of companion animal guardians. First, the extent to which emotional responses to COVID-19 predicted mental health outcomes was explored. Support from companion animals and humans as potential moderators of observed relationships between emotional responses and mental health was then investigated. Using data collected from 895 guardians, it was found that guardians experienced a range of positive and negative emotional responses. Regression analyses revealed that these responses predicted mental health outcomes. Negative emotional responses and loneliness showed a positive relationship with stress, anxiety, and depression, while positive emotional responses showed a negative relationship with stress and depression. Emotional closeness with companion animals, but not support from humans, moderated the relationship between negative emotional responses and both stress and anxiety, suggesting that when guardians experienced distress during the pandemic, they may have relied on companion animals for support. Background. There are many different haematological malignancy subtypes. Most follow chronic pathways that are uncertain and unpredictable, which may lead to feelings of anxiety and distress. The provision of information can ameliorate such difficulties, but patients are known to have unmet needs in this regard. The aim of this study is to explore experiences of information sharing among patients with chronic blood cancers and the factors impacting this process. Methods. The study is set within a UK cohort of blood cancer patients, where care is provided across 14 hospitals according to national clinical guidelines. Purposive sampling was used to identify expert participants (based on experience), and in-depth qualitative interviews were conducted with 35 patients, 10 with a relative present. The study was intended to inform practice and utilised qualitative description, with thematic content analysis and systematic data coding. Results. Experiences of information sharing varied. Most patients described this positively, but not all. Several barriers and facilitators were identified, which are discussed within five themes: (1) shock affects ability to process information, (2) the importance of time to facilitate information exchange, (3) personal relationships have an impact on meeting information needs, (4) HCP interpersonal skills are central to good information sharing, and (5) communication skills and terminology. Conclusions. Patients with chronic blood cancers prefer to engage in information sharing when they are not in a state of shock, and when they have adequate time to process material that is effectively and sensitively delivered, by HCPs they know and trust. Objectives: We aimed to synthesise knowledge on the relative social value of child and adult health. Methods: Quantitative and qualitative studies that evaluated the willingness of the public to prioritise treatments for children over adults were included. A search to September 2023 was undertaken. Completeness of reporting was assessed using a checklist derived from Johnston et al. Findings were tabulated by study type (matching/person trade-off, discrete choice experiment, willingness to pay, opinion survey or qualitative). Evidence in favour of children was considered in total, by length or quality of life, methodology and respondent characteristics. Results: Eighty-eight studies were included; willingness to pay (n = 9), matching/person trade-off (n = 12), discrete choice experiments (n = 29), opinion surveys (n = 22) and qualitative (n = 16), with one study simultaneously included as an opinion survey. From 88 studies, 81 results could be ascertained. Across all studies irrespective of method or other characteristics, 42 findings supported prioritising children, while 12 provided evidence favouring adults in preference to children. The remainder supported equal prioritisation or found diverse or unclear views. Of those studies considering prioritisation within the under 18 years of age group, nine findings favoured older children over younger children (including for life saving interventions), six favoured younger children and five found diverse views. Conclusions: The balance of evidence suggests the general public favours prioritising children over adults, but this view was not found across all studies. There are research gaps in understanding the public's views on the value of health gains to very young children and the motivation behind the public's views on the value of child relative to adult health gains. The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and positron emission tomography (PET) imaging has the potential to become a powerful tool in drug discovery. This review aims to provide an overview of the current state of research and highlight the potential for this alliance to advance pharmaceutical innovation by accelerating the development and deployment of novel therapeutics. We previously performed a scoping review of three databases (Embase, MEDLINE, and CENTRAL), identifying 87 studies published between 2018 and 2022 relevant to medical imaging (e.g., CT, PET, MRI), immunotherapy, artificial intelligence, and radiomics. Herein, we reexamine the previously identified studies, performing a subgroup analysis on articles specifically utilizing AI and PET imaging for drug discovery purposes in immunotherapy-treated oncology patients. Of the 87 original studies identified, 15 met our updated search criteria. In these studies, radiomics features were primarily extracted from PET/CT images in combination (n = 9, 60.0%) rather than PET imaging alone (n = 6, 40.0%), and patient cohorts were mostly recruited retrospectively and from single institutions (n = 10, 66.7%). AI models were used primarily for prognostication (n = 6, 40.0%) or for assisting in tumor phenotyping (n = 4, 26.7%). About half of the studies stress-tested their models using validation sets (n = 4, 26.7%) or both validation sets and test sets (n = 4, 26.7%), while the remaining six studies (40.0%) either performed no validation at all or used less stringent methods such as cross-validation on the training set. Overall, the integration of AI and PET imaging represents a paradigm shift in drug discovery, offering new avenues for more efficient development of therapeutics. By leveraging AI algorithms and PET imaging analysis, researchers could gain deeper insights into disease mechanisms, identify new drug targets, or optimize treatment regimens. While the Circular Restricted Three-Body Problem (CR3BP) provides useful structures for various applications, transitioning the solutions from the CR3BP to a higher-fidelity ephemeris model while maintaining specific characteristics remains non-trivial. An analytical approach is leveraged to provide additional insight on the perturbations that are present in an ephemeris model. For the Earth–Moon CR3BP, pulsation of the Earth–Moon distance and solar gravity are identified as key components contributing to the additional accelerations, where patterns are illustrated through simplified mathematical relationships and graphics. Utilizing these findings, capabilities and limitations of two intermediate models, the Elliptic Restricted Three-Body Problem and the Bi-Circular Restricted Four-Body Problem, are assessed within the context of transitioning from the CR3BP to a realistic ephemeris model. The current study employs a quasi-experimental design to test the efficacy of situational crime prevention (SCP) in understanding risk avoidance behavior in a darknet environment. Specifically, we deployed a web scraper to extract data from a popular darknet market. We then used these data to assess change in vendors and customers' behavior following the deliverance of a warning message from the market administrator regarding the former market administrator's intention to scam market participants. In the one-month following the message, vendors posted fewer advertisements and customers spent less and made fewer transactions on the marketplace. These findings expand the scope of SCP and provide evidence for Hutchings and Holt's notion that darknet markets can be disrupted by means of gossip. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Self-perception is an important internal resource, and violence exposure can negatively impact children's view of themselves. Although camp interventions can enhance self-perception, research has not yet examined whether camp interventions improve self-perception among children affected by family violence. Camp-based interventions promote health equity by addressing common barriers to service engagement. Objective: Using a non-masked, parallel randomized controlled design, this pilot study evaluated whether a camp-based intervention (i.e., Camp HOPE) enhanced self-perception among youth exposed to family violence. Method: Participants included 47 children aged 7–12 (M = 9.55, SD = 1.63; 79% Black/African American) and one of their adult caregivers seeking services from a Family Justice Center. Children were assigned to the camp (n = 23) or waitlist control (n = 24) condition using block randomization. Caregiver-child dyads completed evaluations at baseline, 2-month follow-up, and 5-month follow-up. Children reported on three self-perception domains: Social Competence, Behavioral Conduct, and Global Self-Worth (GSW). Piecewise latent growth curve models evaluated between-group differences in self-perception at 2- and 5-month follow-up. Results: Findings from intent-to-treat analyses indicated that Camp HOPE may have a temporary, negative impact on children's GSW (Diff. = − 2.65; SE = 1.22; p = 0.029; g = 0.63). Supplemental "as-treated" analyses revealed no significant differences between children who attended and did not attend the camp. Conclusions: Results are inconsistent with previous findings that camp interventions enhance self-perception, raising important questions about the unique experiences of youth exposed to family violence. The Pregnant Moms' Empowerment Program (PMEP) is a brief, group intervention for pregnant women who have experienced intimate partner violence (IPV). This study was a quasirandomized trial of the effects of PMEP on parenting. Participants were 137 pregnant women exposed to IPV in the past year; 82 received PMEP and 55 were in a no-treatment control condition. Participants completed four assessments (pretest [T1], posttest [T2], 3-month postpartum[T3], and 12-month postpartum [T4]). At T1–T4, women self-reported on their parenting attitudes (i.e., expectations of children, parental empathy, corporal punishment, parent–child family roles) and parenting confidence. At the postpartum assessments, mother–infant dyads participated in a videorecorded free play session that was coded for warm-sensitive parenting. Results showed that women who received PMEP had more appropriate expectations of children (β = 0.51, 95% CI [0.03, 0.99], dr = 0.53, 95% CI [0.31, 1.02]) and higher empathy toward children (β = 0.64, 95% CI [0.05, 1.23], dr = 0.53, 95% CI [0.04, 1.02]) at T2, as compared to women in the control group. Women who received PMEP also showed more warm-sensitive parenting at T4 (Wald χ2 = 4.01, p =.045; R2 = 5.58%, d = 0.41, 95% CI [0.07, 0.88]) as compared to women in the control group. No differences emerged on corporal punishment, parent–child family roles, postpartum empathy and expectations of children, parenting confidence, or 3-month postpartum parenting behaviors. Thus, results were mixed, with some short-term positive effects and other benefits emerging only at 1-year postpartum.
