The papers in this special issue were submitted to all the conferences organized by IEEE Technology and Engineering Management Society (TEMS) in a given calendar year. In 2017, IEEE TEMS initiated its flagship conference TEMSCON (held in Silicon Valley), which serves as rebranding from its original International Technology Management Conferences (ITMC). Following that, in 2018, two more conferences were initiated globally, one in Asia known as IEEE TEMS International Symposium on Innovation and Entrepreneurship (ISIE), and one in Europe as IEEE TEMS International Conference on Technology and Entrepreneurship (ICTE). For this special issue, we invited authors attending any of the three aforementioned conferences in 2018 to submit full manuscripts for reviews, and the present special issue with eleven papers is the result of a careful selection following our usual rigid double-blinded peer-review process. With this Special Issue, we are publishing 81 peer-reviewed manuscripts, a selection from the best work presented in June 2019 at the 28th IEEE Symposium on Fusion Engineering (SOFE), Jacksonville, FL, USA. This is the sixth SOFE Special Issue that IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON PLASMA SCIENCE (TPS) has published, a tradition that started with the 2009 SOFE in order to afford attendees the opportunity to publish an expanded version of their oral or poster presentations in a refereed journal. It has become a popular option. With each successive SOFE, more authors take advantage of the possibility offered by TPS to have their conference papers gain wider exposure and be cited by others working in fusion engineering and its related disciplines. Readers benefit as well. For example, this issue features a total of 22 papers on ITER and Wendelstein 7-X, a unique collection of papers on two projects that sit at the forefront of fusion engineering. The IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science (ICOPS) is held annually, sponsored by the Plasma Science and Applications Committee (PSAC) of the IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Science Society (NPSS). The 47th IEEE NPSS ICOPS was organized ONLINE from December 06 to 10, 2020, by the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. The ICOPS2020 was co-organized together with the 2nd Asia-Pacific Conference on Plasma and Terahertz Science (APCOPTS) which is envisioned as the future Asian version of the ICOPS series of conferences. The ICOPS2020 was initially planned as an onsite physical conference from May 24 to 28, 2020, at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was shifted to online virtual conference. The conference’s technical program included a wide range of plasma science and technology topics, which ranged from basic and fundamental research to traditional and emerging technology applications. Since the ICOPS2020 was co-organized with APCOPTS, it also had a very strong coverage of fields related to terahertz science and applications. A total of 627 presentations from scientists and participants from over 41 countries were made at ICOPS2020 with a record total registration of 754. All presentations were recorded and were available to the registered participants for 90 days after the conference was over. The program also included a women-in-engineering talk by Jackie Y. The objectives of this tutorial are as follows: 1) to help students and researchers develop a basic understanding of how pulsed-power systems are used to create high-energy-density (HED) matter; 2) to develop a basic understanding of a new, compact, and efficient pulsed-power technology called linear transformer drivers (LTDs); 3) to understand why LTDs are an attractive technology for driving HED physics (HEDP) experiments; 4) to contrast LTDs with the more traditional Marxgenerator/ pulse-forming-line approach to driving HEDP experiments; and 5) to briefly review the history of LTD technology as well as some of the LTD-driven HEDP research presently underway at universities and research laboratories across the globe. THE ADMINISTRATIVE COMMITTEE of the IEEE Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control Society takes great pleasure in announcing the selection of the Outstanding Papers published in its 2012 Transactions. The award was presented during ceremonies at the 2013 Joint UFFC, EFTF, and PFM Symposium, July 21?25, 2013, in Prague, Czech Republic. Since 2017, the IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices (TED) has published a selection of extended versions of papers presented at the Symposia on VLSI Technology and Circuits held in the corresponding years (vol. 64, no. 10; vol. 65, no. 11; vol. 66, no. 12). Since 2018, the papers have been collected in a Special Section of TED titled “Papers from Symposium on VLSI Technology.” This initiative, which was the result of a fruitful cooperation between the Electron Device Society and the VLSI Symposium chairs and committees, has brought to TED a number of carefully selected (by the VLSI TPC first and then through the TED usual review process), high-quality submissions. We have been able to continue this cooperation also in this difficult 2020, and we are therefore happy to announce the publication in the December issue (Vol. 67, No. 12) of a Special Section on papers from the 2020 Symposium, held virtually on June 15–19, 2020. The Latin American Workshop on Plasma Physics (LAWPP) is a regional meeting with global undertones, whose main purpose is to provide a forum for research carried out in Latin America, while presenting the main trends at international level on the various areas of plasma physics. Therefore, it fosters the establishment of scientific collaborations between Latin American researchers, as well as between them and researchers in developed countries, providing a proper forum to assess their results. The 16th version is to be carried out in Mexico City on 4-8 September, 2017. A special issue on selected papers of the 16th Latin American Workshop on Plasma Physics (LAWPP 2017) will be published within the next four months in the IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science. While it will be based on the Plenary and Invited talks, the guest editors, aided by a technical committee, covering a wide scope of specialties, will invite some of the best papers to be submitted to this issue, and send them to suitable referees. The IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science (ICOPS) is an annual meeting of the plasma physics community known for the broad range of topics addressed as well as for its varied international locations. The 42nd ICOPS was held in Belek, Antalya, Turkey, on May 24–28, 2015. It was the first time that ICOPS was held in Turkey and the region. The General Chair of ICOPS 2015 was Prof. Lütfi Öksüz from Suleyman Demirel University (Isparta, Turkey), the Technical Program Chair was Dr. Christine Coverdale from Sandia National Laboratories (Albuquerque, NM, USA), and the conference Liaison was Prof. Edl Schamiloglu from the University of New Mexico (Albuquerque, NM, USA). As is traditional, the conference consists of all plasma science topics including 7 technical sessions and 35 subsessions. There were almost 400 registrants at ICOPS 2015, and over 500 abstracts are included in the conference. This Series presents selected papers from the ITU Kaleidoscope Academic Conference that convened in Kyoto, Japan from the 22nd to 24th of April 2013. The topic of the conference was "Building Sustainable Communities," in recognition of the challenges that Japan is facing after the Great East Earthquake. The hosts were the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communication (MIC) of Japan and Kyoto University. Kyoto University is the second oldest Japanese national university after the University of Tokyo. The 39th International Conference on Plasma Science (ICOPS) was held in Edinburgh, Scotland in July 2012. The conference featured a wide range of advances in innovative plasma and beam science and applications, and served as a venue for an international community to meet and discuss their ideas and research results. More than 800 abstracts were received in 35 different topical areas, with more than half the papers originating outside the United State. The conference was attended by over 600 delegates and enjoyed the participation of over 200 registered students. Information about the 35th IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science (ICOPS 2008) held at the Congress Center in Karlsruhe, Germany on June 15-19, 2008 is presented. The technical program of the conference includes basic processes in fully and partially ionized plasmas, microwave generation and plasma interactions, and charged particle beams and sources. It also includes high energy density plasmas applications, plasma diagnostics, and pulsed power other plasma applications.

Information about the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Pulsed Power and Plasma Science Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico from June 17-22, 2007 is presented. The event combined both the 16th IEEE International Pulsed Power Conference (PPC) and the 34th IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science (ICOPS) for the second consecutive year. The rapid growth in the number of conferences and papers appearing in conference proceedings publications has increased the need to examine the issue of conference paper quality. Since conference content is included in permanent repositories, such as IEEE's Xplore, the existence of low-quality papers in a conference will degrade the value and reputation of the conference and the repository. The aim of this contribution is to consider these issues from the point of view of the Conference Publications Operations Committee of the IEEE Computer Society, and offer ideas that could lead to improved conference publishing quality for all IEEE societies and even non-IEEE entities. The International Computer and Software Applications Conference has celebrated its tenth anniversary in 1986. The conference has been very successful in attracting excellent papers and panels from both academia and industry.
