Due to the increasing cost of health insurance, for decades, many countries have endeavored to constrain the cost of insurance by utilizing a DRG payment system. In most cases, under the DRG payment system, hospitals cannot exactly know which DRG code inpatients are until they are discharged. This paper focuses on the prediction of what DRG code appendectomy patients will be classified with when they are admitted to hospital. We utilize two models (or classifiers) constructed using the C4.5 algorithm and back-propagation neural network (BPN). We conducted experiments with the data collected from two hospitals. The results show that the accuracies of these two classification models can be up to 97.84% and 98.70%, respectively. According to the predicted DRG code, hospitals can effectively arrange medical resources with certainty, then, in turn, improve the quality of the medical care patients receive. To achieve successful prevention of fire incidents originating from human activities, it is imperative to possess a thorough understanding. This paper introduces a machine learning approach, specifically utilizing deep neural networks (DNN), to develop predictive models for fire occurrence in Keelung City, Taiwan. It investigates ten factors across demographic, architectural, and economic domains through spatial analysis and thematic maps generated from geographic information system data. These factors are then integrated as inputs for the DNN model. Through 50 iterations, performance indices including the coefficient of determination (R2), root mean square error (RMSE), variance accounted for (VAF), prediction interval (PI), mean absolute error (MAE), weighted index (WI), weighted mean absolute percentage error (WMAPE), Nash–Sutcliffe efficiency (NS), and the ratio of performance to deviation (RPD) are computed, with average values of 0.89, 7.30 × 10−2, 89.21, 1.63, 4.90 × 10−2, 0.97, 2.92 × 10−1, 0.88, and 4.84, respectively. The model's predictions, compared with historical data, demonstrate its efficacy. Additionally, this study explores the impact of various urban renewal strategies using the DNN model, highlighting the significant influence of economic factors on fire incidence. This study describes two machine learning techniques applied to predict liquefaction susceptibility of soil based on the standard penetration test (SPT) data from the 1999 Chi-Chi, Taiwan earthquake. The first machine learning technique which uses Artificial Neural Network (ANN) based on multi-layer perceptions (MLP) that are trained with Levenberg-Marquardt backpropagation algorithm. The second machine learning technique uses the Support Vector machine (SVM) that is firmly based on the theory of statistical learning theory, uses classification technique. ANN and SVM have been developed to predict liquefaction susceptibility using corrected SPT [(N1)60] and cyclic stress ratio (CSR). Further, an attempt has been made to simplify the models, requiring only the two parameters [(N1)60 and peck ground acceleration (αmax/g)], for the prediction of liquefaction susceptibility. The developed ANN and SVM models have also been applied to different case histories available globally. The paper also highlights the capability of the SVM over the ANN models. Patient safety is a paramount concern in the medical field, and advancements in deep learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI) have opened up new possibilities for improving healthcare practices. While AI has shown promise in assisting doctors with early symptom detection from medical images, there is a critical need to prioritize patient safety by enhancing existing processes. To enhance patient safety, this study focuses on improving the medical operation process during X-ray examinations. In this study, we utilize EfficientNet for classifying the 49 categories of pre-X-ray images. To enhance the accuracy even further, we introduce two novel Neural Network architectures. The classification results are then compared with the doctor's order to ensure consistency and minimize discrepancies. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed models, a comprehensive dataset comprising 49 different categories and over 12,000 training and testing sheets was collected from Taichung Veterans General Hospital. Abstract: In this paper we construct the consumer loan default predicting model through conducting the empirical analysis on the customers of unsecured consumer loan from a certain financial institution in Taiwan, and adopt the borrower’s demographic variables and money attitude as the real-timeaneous discriminant information. Furthermore, we construct respectively through four predicting methods, such as DA, LR, NN and DEA–DA, to compare the suitability of these four mentioned methods. The results show that DEA–DA and NN are possessed better predicting capability and they are the optimal predicting model that this study longing for. In addition, this study showed that the default loan predicting model will be possessed higher level of predicting capability after added money attitude. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Simple Summary: Cancer is the leading cause of death in Taiwan. Compared with other types of cancer, the incidence of lung cancer is high. In this study, the National Health In-surance Research Database (NHIRDB) was used to determine the diseases and symptoms associ-ated with lung cancer, and a 10-year probability deep neural network prediction model for lung cancer was developed. The proposed model could allow patients with a high risk of lung cancer to receive an earlier diagnosis and support the physicians' clinical decision-making. As a result, a total of 13 diseases were selected as the predicting factors. The proposed model showed an accuracy of 85.4%, a sensitivity of 72.4% and a specificity of 85%, as well as an 87.4% area under ROC (95%, 0.8604–0.8885) model precision. Based on data analysis and deep learning, our prediction model discovered some features that had not been previously identified by clinical knowledge. This study tracks a decade of clinical diagnostic records to identify possible symptoms and comorbidities of lung cancer, allows early prediction of the disease, and assists more patients with early diagnosis. The subjects were patients who were diagnosed with lung cancer between 2000 and 2009, and the patients' disease histories were back-tracked for a period, extending to ten years before the diagnosis of lung cancer. A nine layers deep neural network model was created to predict the probability of lung cancer, depending on the different pre-diagnosed diseases, and to benefit the earlier detection of lung cancer in potential patients. The model is trained 1000 times, the batch size is set to 100, the SGD (Stochastic gradient descent) optimizer is used, the learning rate is set to 0.1, and the momentum is set to 0.1. The proposed model showed an accuracy of 85.4%, a sensitivity of 72.4% and a specificity of 85%, as well as an 87.4% area under ROC (AUROC) (95%, 0.8604–0.8885) model precision. Background: Prognosis of the aged population requiring maintenance dialysis has been reportedly poor. We aimed to develop prediction models for one-year cost and one-year mortality in aged individuals requiring dialysis to assist decision-making for deciding whether aged people should receive dialysis or not. Methods: We used data from the National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD). We identified patients first enrolled in the NHIRD from 2000–2011 for end-stage renal disease (ESRD) who underwent regular dialysis. A total of 48,153 Patients with ESRD aged ≥65 years with complete age and sex information were included in the ESRD cohort. The total medical cost per patient (measured in US dollars) within one year after ESRD diagnosis was our study's main outcome variable. We were also concerned with mortality as another outcome. In this study, we compared the performance of the random forest prediction model and of the artificial neural network prediction model for predicting patient cost and mortality. Results: In the cost regression model, the random forest model outperforms the artificial neural network according to the mean squared error and mean absolute error. In the mortality classification model, the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves of both models were significantly better than the null hypothesis area of 0.5, and random forest model outperformed the artificial neural network. Random forest model outperforms the artificial neural network models achieved similar performance in the test set across all data. Conclusions: Applying artificial intelligence modeling could help to provide reliable information about one-year outcomes following dialysis in the aged and super-aged populations; those with cancer, alcohol-related disease, stroke, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), previous hip fracture, osteoporosis, dementia, and previous respiratory failure had higher medical costs and a high mortality rate.
