The article focuses on the emergence of electronic (e)-paper adaptations of the periodicals and books in the U.S. in 2008. It indicated by "Esquire" magazine's 75th anniversary issue in October. It describes that the magazine comprised with flashing 3 millimeter (mm)-thick cover which actually a electrophoretic paper display that forms visible images. Technological process and tools for the development of the journal are mentioned. The possible benefits that newspapers could be acquired if it will adapt e-paper are also discussed.

Although the mass media is an important tool that audiences rely on to learn about the past, the relationship among journalism, history, and memory is still underdeveloped; visual collective memory, like visual studies in other subfields, has received even less attention than written and textual representations of collective memory. To address that gap, this article uses a qualitative content analysis to assess how 15 newspapers commemorated the 25th anniversary of the Berlin Wall’s opening through photographs. Newspapers from countries that were capitalist and communist in 1989 are compared to identify the ways that different cultures ‘remember’ the same past. Five genres of images emerged: iconic photographs, memorials, metonymic and mythological portraits, metonymic relics, and images of resistance, though these genres were framed differently depending on a country’s political system in 1989. In comparing this cross-cultural collective memory, this study looks at what these visual commemorations reveal about cross-cultural anniversary practices, an area of memory studies that has received little attention. This paper is devoted to the comparison of two medially different "texts"- panel discussion and the premium newspaper "Der Standard" - united by a common topic: the 100th anniversary of the Austrian Republic, in terms of strategies and specific language tools used to construct a national identity. The author assumes that the set of strategies, in general, will coincide, since both texts are inscribed in the context of a broad public discussion about the fate of the country in the conditions of a postnational society. At the first anniversary of the disappearance of 43 students in Ayotzinapa, several popular associations called for a series of activities that would culminate with a great protest march in Mexico City on September 26, 2015. This paper presents a comparative analysis of the way in which this event was reported in headlines and main images of nine newspapers with a long history as political actors in their respective countries: Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Spain, United States, France and Great Britain. This article explores the mediatization of birthdays and anniversaries through the concept of "on-this-date" media as a way to understand the representation and circulation of media content that occurred in previous years, on that exact date. Drawing on journalism studies and mediated memory work, I argue that past events are made relevant and then irrelevant through a frame of on-this-date media. By juxtaposing Facebook Birthdays and Memories with the Associated Press's "Today In History" feed, I analyze the multiple temporalities at work across analog and digital media platforms. Drawing on Keightley's zones of intermediacy, I examine how time is mediated through the textual, technological, and social aspects of media, in sometimes conflicting ways. What does a rising China mean to the world? While some countries take China as a salient threat, others regard China as their role model for development and governance. However, limited research has offered a systematic comparative analysis in this regard. China's spectacular celebration of its 60th anniversary uniquely showcased its increasing military might, mounting economic wealth and carefully-maintained mass support. Taking advantage of simultaneous worldwide news coverage of this all-in-one event, we scrutinize how different societies responded to a rising China. We find significant variance in the news coverage from 42 top printed media in 21 sampled societies. Moreover, these societies' political features affect their newspapers' reporting styles the most. The article presents an examination of the centennial celebration held in Mexico City during September 1921 in commemoration of the country gaining political independence from Spain. The article explores how the month-long celebration allowed the administration of President Alvaro Obregón to present its vision of the revolution and its impact on the country. It discusses how the parades, sporting events and general celebratory atmosphere helped develop a national identity as well as a sense of legitimacy that showed the country they could hold celebrations similar to other Western European powers.

This article describes how national holiday coverage in newspapers attempts to align citizens by valorizing certain kinds of holiday activities and behaviors. In a study of evaluations used over a period of over 150 years in news stories about US Independence Day (the Fourth of July), it finds that chief loci of evaluation are the concepts of impressiveness, appropriateness, restraint, and particularly the emotion and enthusiasm of the audience. From its footing as an authority and general critic, the newspaper defines a standard of public behavior for anniversaries, built around attendance at and to the occasion, and display of affective capacity. In the context of national holidays, a certain amount of ‘flooding out’, as long as it does not physically endanger others, is considered supportive of the social structure rather than disruptive of it. The organizers of the events may also be evaluated from the newspaper’s footing as an independent critic of the government. The systems of evaluation are seen to be integrated with the system of news values, since they highlight information that is important and new. In addition, the results are compared with the APPRAISAL framework in systemic functional linguistics, and some difficulties in using the framework with this material are noted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
