The study was conducted in the University Libraries of five Universities spread over Kerala, providing higher education in Science, Social Science and Humanities. Cochin University, one among the five universities selected under the study, deals with Technology in addition to the conventional branches. The paper attempts to make a comparative study of the acquisition process of journals and databases among the five University Libraries. The author has collected data through a personal visit to all the five libraries with the help of a structured interview with all the University Librarians and the staff working in the periodicals section. Purchase of Newspapers and magazines is excluded from the study and importance is given to the subscription of Journals and Databases, as they are the significant information sources of higher education. Aspects such as the mode of selection of journals and databases, mode of purchase, current budget allocation, its apportion to different departments, how the fund is released as advance to the University Librarian's account, its utilization and settlement etc. are mainly dealt with in the paper. The paper is based on a study conducted in the libraries of management institutes in Kerala. The main objective of the study is to understand the available modern Technical Tools which is having scope of application in Management Institute Libraries. The Study also targets to assess the shortfalls of the existing Library Information System and Services utilized by the Management Institute Libraries. The study covering all the Management Institutes of Kerala and data was collected mainly through the websites of the Institutes or the concerned Library. The study revealed that the leading Technical Tools were not yet applied in Management Institute Libraries of Kerala. The paper put forward the vital suggestions that it is very crucial to adapt the technical tools in Management Institute Libraries since it is a grooming place for future Management Professionals. The web has transformed the ways by which people search, And, use and communicate information. Integrating the use of web 2.0 technology in libraries has become the subject of interest among library professionals. Web 2.0 technologies facilitate interactive information sharing, interoperability, user-centered design, dynamic content, openness, and user participation. This paper assesses the web 2.0 technology skills among library professionals in the University of Kerala. The study includes the library professionals employed in the Kerala university library system. The questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. The study revealed that e-mail has an important impact on the level of web 2.0 use among library professionals. The majority of the library professionals did not have much idea about RSS feeds, content management, social bookmarking, podcast, wikis, etc. Analysis also showed that the library professionals in University of Kerala have a positive attitude towards the implementation of web 2.0 technologies in libraries. To understand the current status of Digital information resources and services provided by the Management Institute Libraries in Kerala; 2. To benchmark the management institute libraries in Kerala with IIM-Kozhikode in terms of Digital Library Facilities and Services; 3. To understand the status of digitalized resources in the Management Institute Libraries; and 4. To assess the shortfalls of the existing Library Information System and Services utilized by the Management Institute Libraries. The study covering all the Management Institutes of Kerala and data was collected through the websites of the Institutes or the concerned Library. The study revealed that the Management Institute Libraries in Kerala give only less importance in providing digitalized Information Resources and Services to the different category of users in comparison with the global standard. The study focuses on the attempts made for the preservation of the resources relating to the history, science, art, culture, heritage, language, literature, economy and politics of the Kerala state. The paper emphasizes the need for digitization, the policy and criteria adopted for selecting the documents for digitization, the digitization process, and the digital preservation methods carried out by the Kerala University Library. The study attempts an analysis of the digitized documents. The need for coordinating the digitization efforts of various universities and institutions is also stressed in the paper. Marketing is beneficial to libraries because an effective marketing programme can help the library to create competitive advantage through the development of new services or changes of the existing ones to satisfy their users better; improvement of their organizational status and image to different stakeholders; and there by improve their performance in general This paper attempts to study the application of marketing mix variables (4P's), the degree of marketing orientation and the users attitude towards the marketing applications of the university libraries in Kerala The data for the study collected from a sample of 842 users of the university libraries in Kerala such as Kerala University Library (KUL), Mahatma Gandhi University Library (MGUL), Cochin University of Science and Technology Library (CUSATL) and CH Mohammed Koya Library of University of Calicut (CHMKL). The study found that university libraries in Kerala have moderate degree of marketing orientation with respect to the marketing mix variables. It is indeed in the university libraries in Kerala to initiate new information services and products suitable for the different user groups. From the analysis of the marketing elements viz. product, place, price and promotion, it is observed that university libraries in Kerala needs better promotional activities. A separate marketing division with skilled staff with a marketing plan is desirable to make the marketing activities more efficient and effective. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
