The production control for the mass individualisation paradigm of R&D-stage products is challenging due to the mix-flow and frequently-disturbed environment. With the convergence of the sustainable development goals and the increasing individualised demands in products, resilient manufacturing is envisioned in Industry 5.0 proposition. Concerning that conventional centralised production control methods suffer from low stability and inefficiency of decisions under frequent disruptions, this paper establishes a blockchained smart contract pyramid-driven multi-agent autonomous process control (BSCP-MAAPC) approach for improving the timeliness and adaptability of control towards resilient individualised manufacturing. Firstly, a blockchain-based multi-agent system architecture is designed based on agent encapsulation of manufacturing units. Blockchained smart contracts are used as the enabler of the multi-agent system for peer-to-peer negotiation and coordination of tasks. Secondly, a quad-play blockchained smart contract pyramid together with a series of decentralised control patterns are designed to enable the initial task dispatching of various individualised demands, as well as rapid dynamic adjustment of schedule in response to internal random disruptions. Finally, a blockchained smart contract pyramid-driven multi-agent autonomous process control system prototype is built in the ManuChain system, and experiments are conducted to analyze the proposed BSCP-MAAPC approach in different environments. This paper studies the constrained two-dimensional guillotine cutting problem with defects, whose objective is to cut a subset of given items from a defective sheet such that the profit of selected items is maximised. The guillotine cut constraint, which requires each cut must go through one side of the sheet to the opposite side, is considered. We solve this problem via a recursive dynamic programming approach. A set of upper bounds is proposed to keep the promising nodes. The normal points and raster points are extended to reduce the number of vertical and horizontal cuts by considering the effect of the defect. Paced mixed-model assembly lines are popular with various manufacturing enterprises. However, they face the weakness that they are at risk of line stoppages owing to the occurrence of workstation work overload situations. Moreover, the consideration of workers' health and ergonomic risk on manual assembly lines is a necessity required by legislation. Therefore, this article addresses mixed-model assembly line balancing and sequencing taking the problem of ergonomic risk into consideration and manages work overloads using a side-by-side policy with utility workers. To solve these problems, this article proposes an hierarchical and two-stage framework. The optimization goals are to minimize the number of workstations and utility workers. Furthermore, this article integrates an iterated greedy algorithm into a genetics algorithm to obtain global exploration and local exploitation ability. Finally, a divide-and-conquer strategy is proposed to meet the challenge of solving a large-scale problem. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the mechanism proposed in this article. Models that predict tool life based on wear mechanism knowledge are typically inaccurate, as the use of simplified model parameters can have a significant effect on this prediction. While a tool life prediction model based on sample cutting data is limited to specific working conditions, which makes tool life prediction difficult to generalize, and needs a large amount of historical data as support. In this paper, the empirical formula of tool life based on wear mechanism knowledge was combined with a neural network, which can significantly improve prediction accuracy. Firstly, a concept of tool life grade is proposed, and its classification standard is outlined. Secondly, a prediction model based on the empirical life formula and experimental data was established. Thirdly, a tool wear prediction model based on a convolutional neural network (CNN) was established through the real-time tool condition data, and the corresponding life compensation strategy can be determined by comparing this with the historical data. Finally, the empirical life grade was adjusted to obtain the real-time tool life grade. With the increasing automation of mobile phone assembly, industrial robots are gradually being used in production lines for loading and unloading operations. At present, industrial robots are mainly used in online teaching mode, in which the robot's movement and path are set by teaching in advance and then repeat the point-to-point operation. This mode of operation is less flexible and requires high professionalism in teaching and offline programming. When positioning and grasping different materials, the adjustment time is long, which affects the efficiency of production changeover. To solve the problem of poor adaptability of loading robots to differentiated products in mobile phone automatic assembly lines, it is necessary to quickly adjust the positioning and grasping of different models of mobile phone middle frames. Smart freeway is the newest form of next generation of freeway system which aims to achieve more sustainable objectives utilizing advanced information and communication technologies. Taking the advantages of digital twin on near‐real‐time interaction between the physical and cyber systems, the framework, operation, and enabled technologies of digital twin smart freeway (DTSF) are developed in this paper. A three‐layer conceptual framework is first discussed for understanding the fundamental structure, core components, and operation procedure of a DTSF system in the context of smart transportation. The key technologies of a DTSF system are also investigated, such as simulation modelling, big data analysis, intelligent prediction, and integrated freeway control. Moreover, a well‐designed case study based on Simulation of Urban Mobility (SUMO) is provided to verify the efficiency of the proposed freeway control strategy by integrating perimeter control of upstream urban network and traffic regulation of freeway segments. Resilient manufacturing is a vision in the Industry 5.0 blueprint for satisfying sustainable development goals under pandemics or the rising individualized product needs. A resilient manufacturing strategy based on the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) networks plays an essential role in facilitating production and supply chain recovery. IIoT contains confidential data and private information, and many security issues arise through vulnerabilities in the infrastructure. The traditional centralized IIoT framework is not only of high cost for system configuration but also vulnerable to cyber-attacks and single-point failure, which is not suitable for achieving the resilient manufacturing vision in Industry 5.0. Recently, researchers are seeking a secure solution of middleware based on blockchain technology integration for decentralized IIoT, which can effectively protect the consistency, integrity, and availability of IIoT data by utilizing the auditing and tamper-proof features of the blockchain. This paper presented a review of secure blockchain middleware for decentralized IIoT towards Industry 5.0. Firstly, the security issues of conventional IIoT solutions and the advantages of blockchain middleware are analyzed. Secondly, an architecture of secure blockchain middleware for decentralized IIoT is proposed. Finally, enabling technologies, challenges, and future directions are reviewed. The innovation of this paper is to study and discuss the distributed blockchain middleware, investigating its ability to eliminate the risk of a single point of failure via a distributed feature in the context of resilient manufacturing in Industry 5.0 and to solve the security issues from traditional centralized IIoT. Also, the four-layer architecture of blockchain middleware presented based on the IIoT application framework is a novel aspect of this review. Blockchain, an emerging paradigm of secure and shareable computing, is a systematic integration of 1) chain structure for data verification and storage, 2) distributed consensus algorithms for generating and updating data, 3) cryptographic techniques for guaranteeing data transmission and access security, and 4) automated smart contracts for data programming and operations. However, the progress and promotion of Blockchain have been seriously impeded by various security issues in blockchain-based applications. Furthermore, previous research on blockchain security has been mostly technical, overlooking considerable business, organizational, and operational issues. To address this research gap from the perspective of information systems, we review blockchain security research in three levels, namely, the process level, the data level, and the infrastructure level, which we refer to as the PDI model of blockchain security. In this survey, we examine the state of blockchain security in the literature. Based on the insights obtained from this initial analysis, we then suggest future directions of research in blockchain security, shedding light on urgent business and industrial concerns in related computing disciplines. Current mass individualisation and service-oriented paradigm calls for high flexibility and agility in the warehouse system to adapt changes in products. This paper proposes a novel digital twin-driven joint optimisation approach for warehousing in large-scale automated high-rise warehouse product-service system. A Digital Twin System is developed to aggregate real-time data from physical warehouse product-service system and then to map it to the cyber model. A joint optimisation model on how to timely optimise stacked packing and storage assignment of warehouse product-service system is integrated to the Digital Twin System. Through perceiving online data from the physical warehouse product-service system, periodical optimal decisions can be obtained via the joint optimisation model and then fed back to the semi-physical simulation engine in the Digital Twin System for verifying the implementation result. A demonstrative prototype is developed and verified with a case study of a tobacco warehouse product-service system. Ultra-Precision Machining (UPM) is a kind of highly accurate processing technology developed to satisfy the manufacturing requirements of high-end cutting-edge products including nuclear energy producers, very large-scale integrated circuits, lasers, and aircraft. The information asymmetry phenomenon widely exists in the design and control of ultra-precision machining. It may lead to inconsistency between the designed performance and operational performance of the UPM equipment on stiffness, thermal stability, and motion accuracy, which result from its design, manufacturing, and control, and determine the form accuracy and surface roughness of machined parts. The performance of the UPM equipment should be improved continuously. It is still challenging to realize the real-time and self-adaptive control, in which building a high-fidelity and computationally efficient digital twin is a valuable solution. Nevertheless, the incorporation of the digital twin technology into the UPM design and control remains vague and sometimes contradictory. Based on a literature search in the Google Scholar database, the critical issues in the UPM design and control, and how to use the digital twin technologies to promote it, are reviewed. Firstly, the digital twins-based UPM design, including bearings module design, spindle-drive module design, stage system module design, servo module design, and clamping module design, are reviewed. Secondly, the digital twins-based UPM control studies, including voxel modeling, process planning, process monitoring, vibration control, and quality prediction, are reviewed. The COVID-19 has become a global pandemic that dramatically impacted human lives and economic activities. Due to the high risk of getting affected in high-density population areas and the implementation of national emergency measures under the COVID-19 pandemic, both travel and transportation among cities become difficult for engineers and equipment. Consequently, the costly physical commissioning of a new manufacturing system is greatly hindered. As an emerging technology, digital twins can achieve semi-physical simulation to avoid the vast cost of physical commissioning of the manufacturing system. Therefore, this paper proposes a digital twins-based remote semi-physical commissioning (DT-RSPC) approach for open architecture flow-type smart manufacturing systems. A digital twin system is developed to enable the remote semi-physical commissioning. The proposed approach is validated through a case study of digital twins-based remote semi-physical commissioning of a smartphone assembly line. The results showed that combining the open architecture design paradigm with the proposed digital twins-based approach makes the commissioning of a new flow-type smart manufacturing system more sustainable. The rapid development of advanced technologies provides futuristic option to enhance product value with digital services, which the concept of Smart Product-Service System (SPSS) was proposed. SPSS focuses on usage data, the whole lifecycle, and the iterative optimisation. A large amount of data and context information can be collected during the usage stage, which can be used to elicit requirements to guide further design. How to realise the requirement elicitation with cognitive intelligence based on usage data is the key step for design optimisation. Therefore, this research proposes a cognitive intelligence-enabled requirements elicitation framework to help designers promote the design optimisation process. First, the digital twin-driven data collection architecture of SPSS is proposed by considering multi-sources and multi-stages. Second, the behaviour of SPSS is modelled based on Auto-Encoder which is constructed using deep learning to cognise SPSS performance. Third, the corresponding behaviour model is interpreted based on Shapley Addictive exPlanations (SHAP) to discover key factors with cognitive intelligence. Finally, the domain knowledge graph is used to generate the optimisation requirements for further design.
