Formerly the geometry was based on shapes, but since the last centuries this founding mathematical science deals with transformations, projections, and mappings. Projective geometry identifies a line with a single point, like the perspective on the horizon line and, due to this fact, it requires a restructuring of the real mathematical and numerical analysis. In particular, the problem of interpolating data must be refocused. In this paper, we define a linear structure along with a metric on a projective space, and prove that the space thus constructed is complete. Atherosclerosis is one of the most common diseases in the world. Medication with metal stents plays an important role in treating this disease. There are many models for delivering drugs from stents to the arterial wall. This paper presents a model that describes drug delivery from the stent coating layers to the arterial wall tissue. This model complements the previous models by considering the mechanical properties of the arterial wall tissue, which changes due to atherosclerosis and improves results for designing stents. The stability behavior of the model is analyzed, and a number of numerical results are provided with explanations. A comparison between numerical and experimental results, which examine a more accurate match between the in vivo and in vitro, is shown. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper investigates the dynamical behavior of the modified May–Holling–Tanner model in the presence of dynamic alternative resources. We study the role of dynamic alternative resources on the survival of the species when there is prey rarity. Detailed mathematical analysis and numerical evaluations, including the situation of ecosystem collapsing, have been presented to discuss the coexistence of species', stability, occurrence of different bifurcations (saddle-node, transcritical, and Hopf) in three cases in the presence of prey and alternative resources, in the absence of prey and in the absence of alternative resources. It has been obtained that the multiple coexisting states and their stability are outcomes of variations in predation rate for alternative resources. Also, the occurrence of Hopf bifurcation, saddle-node bifurcation, and transcritical bifurcation are due to variations in the parameters of dynamic alternative resources. The impact of dynamic alternative resources on species' density reveals the fact that if the predation rate for alternative resources increases, then the prey biomass increases (under some restrictions), and variations in the predator's biomass widely depend upon the quality of food items. This study also points out that the survival of predators is possible in the absence of prey. Multiphysics processes are common in nature and can occur in conjuction with intense strains. When strain softening is also present, the original uniform strain distribution is lost and strain localization occurs. In a classical continuum strain localization happens on a mathematical plane (i.e shear band of zero thickness). This leads to mesh dependent numerical analyses, in which strain localizes on the smallest mesh length. In this paper we investigate under which conditions multiphysics processes regularize the problem of strain localization. We study, for the first time, the influence of all the different coupling terms present in the original coupled multiphysics balance equations on the strain localization profile. We also consider the influence of viscosity and inertia effects. We show that the multiphysics processes do not always lead to mesh independent results. Furthermore, our rigorous mathematical analysis provides bounds for the different coupling parameters, for which multiphysics processes lead to strain regularization and mesh independent numerical results. Finally, we corroborate our mathematical findings, applying them to a numerical example of a coupled hydro-mechanical system of a fault under shear. We propose and study a weakly convergent variant of the forward-backward algorithm for solving structured monotone inclusion problems. Our algorithm features a per-iteration deviation vector, providing additional degrees of freedom. The only requirement on the deviation vector to guarantee convergence is that its norm is bounded by a quantity that can be computed online. This approach offers great flexibility and paves the way for the design of new forward-backward-based algorithms, while still retaining global convergence guarantees. These guarantees include linear convergence under a metric subregularity assumption. Choosing suitable monotone operators enables the incorporation of deviations into other algorithms, such as the Chambolle-Pock method and Krasnosel'skĭı--Mann iterations. We propose a novel inertial primal-dual algorithm by selecting the deviations along a momentum direction and deciding their size by using the norm condition. Numerical experiments validate our convergence claims and demonstrate that even this simple choice of a deviation vector can enhance the performance compared to, for instance, the standard Chambolle--Pock algorithm. Generalized/extended finite element methods (GFEM/XFEM) for an interface problem are generally enriched by a distance function to the interface to handle discontinuities across the interface. Evaluations of the distance function and its gradients are needed for assembling stiffness matrices, which requires certain computational geometry algorithms. The computational complexity grows if the number of integration points is increased. Besides, the mathematical analysis on the effect of numerical integration has not been established in the field of GFEM/XFEM yet. This study designs an improved enriched function for a stable GFEM (SGFEM, a stable version of GFEM) based on the distance function, which only requires evaluating the distance function at nodes of elements that interact the interface (the gradients of distance function are not needed). The optimal convergence order (in the energy norm) of the SGFEM with such an improved enriched function is proven. In turn, we propose a perturbed variational formula, which can be integrated exactly by simple Gaussian rules designed in this paper. We prove that the SGFEM based on the improved enriched function and the perturbed variational formula (exactly integrated by the numerical integration) achieves the optimal convergence order for the interface problem. Namely, we develop a numerical integration rule for the SGFEM such that the optimal convergence order of SGFEM is maintained for the interface problem. This research aims to examine the tensile strength of a hybrid composite laminate reinforced by thin-plies when used as an adherend in bonded single lap joints subjected to high-rate and impact loading. Two different composites, namely Texipreg HS 160 T700 and NTPT-TP415, are employed as the conventional and thin-ply composites, respectively. The study considers three configurations: a conventional composite, a thin-ply, and a hybrid single lap joint. Numerical models of the configurations are developed to provide insight into failure mechanisms and the initiation of damage. The results indicate a significant increase in tensile strength for the hybrid joints over the conventional and thin-ply joints, due to the mitigation of stress concentrations. This study presents a mathematical model capturing Malaria transmission dynamics in Yemen, incorporating a social hierarchy structure. Piecewise Caputo-Fabrizio derivatives are utilized to effectively capture intricate dynamics, discontinuities, and different behaviors. Statistical data from 2000 to 2021 is collected and analyzed, providing predictions for Malaria cases in Yemen from 2022 to 2024 using Eviews and Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average models. The model investigates the crossover effect by dividing the study interval into two subintervals, establishing existence, uniqueness, positivity, and boundedness of solutions through fixed-point techniques and fractional-order properties of the Laplace transformation. The basic reproduction number is computed using a next-generation technique, and numerical solutions are obtained using the Adams-Bashforth method. The results are comprehensively discussed through graphs. The obtained results can help us to better control and predict the spread of the disease. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
