This paper examines both the presentation content and institutional representation of the Rare Books and Manuscripts Section (RBMS) of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) of the American Library Association (ALA) conference from 2009 to 2021. An analysis of types of presentations and presentation topics reveals that types of sessions and session topics are consistent throughout the years. Presentations with a diversity focus remain low, despite an RBMS commitment to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the section. Multiple presenters from a single institution are common at the conference. There are few local presenters at the RBMS conference, but non-academic institutions are represented at all of the conferences studied. Academic Web site design continues to evolve as colleges and universities are under increasing pressure to create a Web site that is both hip and professional looking. Many colleges and universities are using templates to unify the look and feel of their Web sites. Where does the library Web site fit into a comprehensive campus design scheme? The library Web site is unique due to the wide range of services and content available. Based on a poster session presented at the Twelfth Annual Association of College and Research Libraries conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota, April 2005, this paper explores the prevalence of university-wide academic templates on library Web sites and discusses factors libraries should consider in the future. In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, colleges and universities around the world were forced to close or move to online instruction. Many institutions host yearly student research symposiums. This article describes how two universities used their institutional repositories to adapt their student research symposiums to virtual events in a matter of weeks. Both universities use the bepress Digital Commons platform for their institutional repositories. Even though the two universities' symposium strategies differed, some commonalities emerged, particularly with regard to learning the best practices to highlight student work and support their universities' efforts to host research symposiums virtually. Rudolph Hirsch stated that the purpose of the catalog is to display the resources of a library to users and that the usefulness and aim of a catalog must be judged in terms of library's particular resources. Anne S. Flannery explained that the decision to divide the catalog was based on the belief that it would simplify the catalog to the public.

This study provides a profile of the authors of contributed papers at the first twelve ACRL conferences. It found that the conference presenters tend to be female academic librarians (administrators, reference librarians, and subject specialists) from Doctoral Research institutions in the Midwest. It also discovered several trends. During its 27-year history, there have been increases in the number of female authors, library school faculty giving papers, and authors from master's and baccalaureate institutions. In addition, the rate of collaboration has grown. The profile and its related trends were very similar to what has been reported in C&RL authorship studies—with one exception. This article focuses on the "Map and Geographic Information Collections in Transition," a national conference organized by the Cartographic Users Advisory Council during May 12-13, 2005 at the Library of Congress. At the conference geologist, Stanley Ponce described the over-whelming challenges of trying to keep 55,000 topographic maps, which are one of the most popular distributed items. In fact, many topographical maps are thirty to forty years out of date. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) plans to discontinue lithographic printing, relying on its maps on demand (MOD) program to fill requests for paper maps through the National Map program. Map librarians who have used the MOD system to purchase maps from out-of-print reports know that the print quality is similar to color ink-jet printing, and that the very tiny print is difficult to read. There is also an issue of cost. Currently a single topographic map costs $7, whereas a MOD topographic map may cost $15. USGS currently charges $20 apiece for MOD's of out-of-print maps from reports.

This article reports that the Cartographic Users Advisory Council (CUAC) held its regular meeting from May 6, 2004 to May 7, 2004 at the Suitland, Maryland offices of the U.S. Bureau of the Census. At the 2004 meeting, John Ebert, Head of the Geography and Map Division of the Library of Congress (LC) offered LC as a venue for a 2005 conference on map and geospatial issues, to be planned by CUAC. It is informed that the Map and Geographic Information Collections in Transition conference was held from May 12, 2005 to May 13, 2005, in the Library of Congress' Mumford Room. Approximately 190 registrants, vendors and speakers attended the conference. Speakers from commercial agencies, academic institutions, and government agency offices presented sessions ranging from "The Future of the Paper Map" to "Data, Copyright, and Access Issues." Because the topics were so timely and relevant, and the networking opportunities so plentiful, much interest was voiced in having another conference in five to seven years.
