Labor divergence between North and South has formed, and the high-speed rail (HSR) plays a key role in labor's agglomeration in China. Regarding China's HSR as a quasi-natural experiment, we construct a difference-in-difference (DID) model to explore the impact of HSR on the labor market of North and South China based on the panel data of 285 cities in China from 1998 to 2018. HSR significantly enhances labor quantity and relieves labor misallocation in South China, while has an insignificant effect on labor quality. It mainly improves the allocation efficiency of the labor market by the improved regional accessibility, which has obvious threshold effects on labor quantity at 2109.8 km from the northernmost part of China, respectively. Furthermore, Confucian culture (CC) weakens the impact of HSR on labor market especially for South China except strengthens that on northern labor quality. Therefore, the labor mobility between North and South China is the result of the combined effect of HSR's thrust and CC's pull, so policymakers should strengthen the construction of HSR network and increase the investment in southern education and northern public cultural construction to reduce barriers of labor mobility between North and South China. Karez systems are ancient hydraulic works that use underground waterways to divert water by gravity and have historically been popular in arid regions across Central Asia. Karez systems have undergone thousands of years of development and have been used for irrigation in 40 countries and regions worldwide. Although there are different opinions about the origin of karezes, the role and significance of karezes are similar. The Turpan Basin is a relatively closed inland basin in China, far from the ocean, with a very dry climate and high evaporation rates. However, due to the ice and snow meltwater of the Tianshan Mountains, the groundwater resources in the basin are abundant. Karezes are an important support for Turpan's farming civilization and tourism culture and represent a great masterpiece of how people in arid areas have used the natural environment. This study used historical CORONA images to visually interpret the karez system in the 1970s and compared it with the karez system in 2020 to analyze the spatial distribution variation characteristics of the karezes. The impact of land use/land cover change on the karezes was also analyzed. The results showed that from 1970 to 2020, as the population grew, there was an increase in arable land and built-up areas while the water area decreased. In general, the increase in arable land and built-up areas, the decrease in water area, and the increase in the number of electromechanical wells have combined to reduce the number of karez systems. Based on the CORONA image from 1970, it is possible to visualize the shaft area that existed in 1970 but did not exist in 2020. Some karez shafts that existed in bare terrain areas in 1970 were truncated when the land use/land cover type changed to arable land. The area where the disappeared karez shafts were located is approximately 87.77 square kilometers. Through the study of the changes in the spatial distribution of karezes and the impact of land use/land cover change on karezes, this research provides a valuable reference for the construction of karez conservation areas or urban planning. Vegetation phenology is a sensitive indicator of climate change, and can help understand the response of vegetation cycles to climate, which is important for understanding the impact of global climate change on terrestrial ecosystems. In this study, based on the enhanced vegetation index (EVI) time-series data, derived from the moderate-resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) data, the climate parameters were extracted using the Savitzky–Golay (S–G) filtering method to explore the spatial and temporal variation characteristics of the vegetation phenology in an agro-pasture ecotone in China, from 2000 to 2020. In addition, the response characteristics of the vegetation phenology to the climate elements (temperature and precipitation) were also analyzed. The results showed the following: (1) The start of the growing season (SOS) was widely advanced, and that was caused by climate change. The end of the growing season (EOS) was delayed, and the length of the growing season (LOS) was gradually extended with a large interannual fluctuation in the SOS and the LOS in the region; (2) the SOS showed significant negative correlations with the air temperature and precipitation. Precipitation was mainly positively correlated with the EOS, but there was no significant difference in the correlation between temperature and the EOS. In general, pre-season precipitation is the main driver of the vegetation phenology, while the influence of temperature on the phenology is less obvious; (3) in the semi-arid area and arid area, the phenology was mainly influenced by precipitation. The response of the vegetation phenology to the temperatures in different temperature zones was found to be regular, showing high spatial differences. In general, the higher the cumulus temperature, the lower the negative effect of the temperature on both the SOS and EOS. High-speed rail (HSR) access promotes the interregional population flow and integrated market across cities in China. Using panel data of 286 cities in China from 2000 to 2018, we investigated the spatial employment effect of HSR by multi-period Difference-in-Difference (DID) model and staggered DID. We found that: First, HSR significantly enhances the spatial employment agglomeration, rationalization of three industrial-employment structures and the advancement of industrial structure in areas with HSR. Cities that open HSRs later generally get higher marginal benefit from HSR. Second, based on the change of regional accessibility caused by HSR, income and housing price are two channels affect spatial employment distribution; capital and labor are two channels affect the industrial-employment structure. Third, HSR has a greater spatial employment effect in peripheral cities than central cities, and HSR has a greater spatial employment effect in southern cities than northern cities. HSR has significantly promoted employment agglomeration in eastern China; it has a significant impact on the employment structure in Northeast China. Northern China's agropastoral ecotone has been a key area of desertification control for decades, and digital maps of its soil organic carbon (SOC) stocks are needed to reveal the gaps between the actual SOC levels and baseline to support land degradation neutrality (LDN) under the Sustainable Development Goals. However, reliable soil information is scarce, and accurate prediction is hindered by the fragmented landscape, which is a dominant characteristic of desertified land. To improve the patchiness identification and accuracy of SOC prediction, we conducted field surveys and collected low-altitude aerial images along the desertification degrees (severe and extremely severe, moderate, slight) in the Horqin Sandy Land. Linear regressions were performed on the relationships between the normalized difference vegetation index and the fractional vegetation cover (FVC) extracted from aerial images, and regression kriging was applied to predict SOC stocks based on the soil-forming factors (vegetation, climate, and topography). Our prediction and cross-validation showed that the fragmented structure and prediction accuracy of SOC stocks were both greatly improved for desertified land. The FVC (R2c = 0.94) and evapotranspiration (R2c = 0.86) had significant positive effects on SOC stocks, respectively, with indirect and direct causal relationships. Our results could provide soil information with better patchiness and accuracy to help policymakers determine the future LDN status in this fragmented desertification landscape. As the problem of the aging population becomes more and more serious, building an intelligent senior care service model and optimizing the senior care service industry become key to the development of the senior care service industry. The key to developing intelligent senior care services is to improve the overall senior care personnel quality and construct a competency model of intelligent institutional senior care professionals. This study used literature research and interviews to establish 31 relevant institutional senior care professional talent competency elements. We proposed six research propositions, prepared questionnaires for empirical analysis, and took caregivers of senior care institutions implementing intelligent management in some cities in Hebei Province, China as samples. This study established and validated 28 competency quality index models of senior care professionals in intelligent institutions in four dimensions: nursing knowledge, professional ability, personal quality, and professional attitude through exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. Based on the index system, this study suggests three aspects: improving the talent recruitment and selection mechanism, talent training and development mechanism, and assessment and incentive mechanism. The traditional talent competency model only focuses on fundamental aspects, such as competence. This study comprehensively establishes an evaluation model from four aspects, providing theoretical and practical significance for selecting and developing talents in intelligent institutions. COVID-19 has made it difficult to adopt traditional face-to-face psychological intervention under this situation because of the blocked down and social distancing, which brings big psychological crisis to the public among the global. To explore the emotional change of the public in China at the outburst of the pandemic at different phases, to establish an online working platform and create a new model of an online intervention to hold public emotions under pandemic, and test its effectiveness, so to give advisement for government emergency management system. We established an online organization to work for this program ad innovated a model of online group counseling with online emotional support accompany group (OESAG) right after the outburst of a pandemic. We analyzed 53 OESAGs from February 10 to April 9, including 555 application forms, 253 feedback from members, and 139 feedback from group leaders by using NVivo and SPSS to explore the evolution and characteristics of public emotion during COVID-19 and the effectiveness of OESAG. Our results showed that the emotional changes of members ranged from shock to depression to positive. The public's emotions swiftly changed from stress, anxiety, and isolation, to the hope of returning to work or finding a job during the pandemic with the help of OESAG. OESAG has effectively regulated the negative emotions of members by conducting psychological crisis intervention to provide members a space to communicate with each other, especially the female and frontline staff. Policy makers can set up an online systematic psychological crisis intervention system as soon as possible to make up for the lack of psychological assistance in the emergency management system. Through the smartphone, the production and circulation of digital visual media have become as costless and accessible as audio and text-based communication. It would be challenging to be a contemporary ethnographer without engaging with digital practices which in Japan and China at least, tend towards being highly visual. Digital visual communication is recognised in literature as an effective and accessible form of communication, with an increasing number of studies in the field of digital anthropology, media studies and Internet studies exploring the consequences of digital images on social media. There is a pressing need to understand local forms of visual communication in the digital age, where the visual has become an essential part of daily communication. This article deals particularly with the rise of visual digital communication among older adults in China and Japan. Drawing on 16-month ethnographies conducted simultaneously between 2018 and 2019 in China and Japan, this article contributes to the discussion of visual communication in light of this semiotic shift happening online, which is then contextualised within people's offline lives. The ethnographies in both China and Japan find that, first of all, visual communication via digital media enables more effective and efficient phatic communication and emotion work. In addition, the ethnographies point to a question about 'authenticity' in interpersonal communication. The ethnographies show that in some cases, the deployment of visual communication via the smartphone is not so much about being able to express 'authentic' personal feelings but rather, in being able to effectively establish a digital public façade according to social norms. The copper mining city of of Alto Hospicio, Chile and GoodPath town, a factory city in China both seem to be archetypal neoliberal cities. They epitomize the circulation of goods, people, and ideas through their export-based economies, large migrant populations, and high penetration of Internet and social media use. Yet, we find that in migrants' social media use, there are stark contrasts in the significance they place on their movement and the identities they form around these migrations. In China, factory workers take to the 'online world' to escape harsh realities and engage in identity formations that privilege cosmopolitan aspirations. In Chile, mining workers express the harshness of their lived reality, using social media to build identities around a sense of pride in their abrasive conditions. This comparative essay reveals how processes associated with neoliberal capitalism – including migrations of people, goods, and information, and the commodification of identities – is preconditioned by local contexts. We find that the processes of neoliberal capitalism sometimes yield starkly different consequences, even when local circumstances seem to be similar. The color of mulberry wine is difficult to maintain since the main chromogenic substances, anthocyanins, are severely degraded during fermentation and aging. This study selected Saccharomyces cerevisiae I34 and Wickerhamomyces anomalus D6, both displaying high hydroxycinnamate decarboxylase (HCDC) activity (78.49% and 78.71%), to enhance the formation of stable vinylphenolic pyranoanthocyanins (VPAs) pigments during mulberry wine fermentation. The HCDC activity of 84 different strains from eight regions in China was primarily screened via the deep well plate micro fermentation method, after which the tolerance and brewing characteristics were evaluated via simulated mulberry juice. The two selected strains and a commercial Saccharomyces cerevisiae were then inoculated individually or sequentially into the fresh mulberry juice, while the anthocyanin precursors and VPAs were identified and quantified via UHPLC-ESI/MS. The results showed that the HCDC-active strains facilitated the synthesis of stable pigments, cyanidin-3-O-glucoside-4-vinylcatechol (VPC3G), and cyanidin-3-O-rutinoside-4-vinylcatechol (VPC3R), highlighting its potential for enhancing color stability. Background: The effectiveness of gemcitabine plus capecitabine compared with gemcitabine monotherapy for resected pancreatic cancer has been evaluated in the ESPAC-4 trial. We aimed to assess the cost-effectiveness of these adjuvant regimens on resected pancreatic cancer. Methods: A Markov model was established to simulate the disease process of resected pancreatic cancer (relapse-free survival, progressive disease, and death). The efficacy and toxicity profiles were collected from the ESPAC-4 trial. Transition probabilities were calculated based on survival in each group. Cost data were calculated from the perspective of the Chinese healthcare payer. The primary endpoint in the analysis was the incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER), and model uncertainties were explored by one-way sensitivity analysis and probabilistic sensitivity analysis. Results: Our results demonstrated that gemcitabine monotherapy cost $36,028.45 and yielded a survival of 1.02 quality-adjusted life year (QALY), while gemcitabine plus capecitabine cost $46,095.05 and yielded a survival of 1.23 QALY. Therefore, the incremental cost-effectiveness ratio of gemcitabine plus capecitabine vs gemcitabine monotherapy was $45,191.23 which surpassed the willingness-to-pay threshold of $29,291.42 per QALY in China. Conclusion: The gemcitabine monotherapy regimen is more cost-effective compared with gemcitabine plus capecitabine regimen for the patients with postoperative pancreatic cancer from the Chinese societal perspective. This study mainly focuses on revealing an ancient water landscape at the Longcheng site in the northern Chaohu Lake Basin using very high-resolution (VHR) GeoEye-1 imagery. First, prior to classification, the GeoEye-1 image was processed following atmospheric and geometric correction. The supervised classification was carried out in order to show the land-cover situation in the Longcheng area. The overall classification accuracy was 89.98%, with a kappa coefficient of 0.87. The moat system around the city walls was discovered by using rule-based object-oriented segmentation of the postclassified image, and the other walls of ancient Longcheng were manually identified from the pansharpened VHR GeoEye-1 image. Finally, a map of the ancient water landscape containing the ancient city, wall and moat at the Longcheng site was produced. This paper demonstrates that VHR remote sensing has the ability to uncover an ancient water landscape and provide new insights for archaeological and paleoenvironmental studies. Landslides, as one of the most destructive natural phenomena, distribute extensively in Wolong Giant Panda Natural Reserve and cause damage to both humans and endangered species. Therefore, landslide susceptibility zonation (LSZ) mapping is necessary for government agencies and decision makers to select suitable locations for giant pandas. The main purpose of this study is to produce landside susceptibility maps using logistic regression (LR), analytical hierarchy process (AHP), and a combined fuzzy and support vector machine (F-SVM) hybrid method based on geographic information systems (GIS). A total of 1773 landslide scarps larger than one cell (25 × 25 m) were selected in the landslide inventory mapping, 70 % of which were selected at random to be used as test data, and the other 30 % were used as validation. Topographical, geological, and hydrographical data were collected, processed, and constructed into a spatial database. Nine conditioning factors were chosen as influencing factors related to landslide occurrence: slope degree, aspect, altitude, profile curvature, geology and lithology, distance from faults, distance from rivers, distance from roads, and normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI). Landslide susceptible areas were analyzed and mapped using the landslide occurrence factors by different methods. For conventional assessment, weights and rates of the affecting factors were assigned based on experience and knowledge of experts. In order to reduce the subjectivity, a combined fuzzy and SVM hybrid model was generated for LSZ in this paper. In this approach, the rates of each thematic layer were generated by the fuzzy similarity method, and weights were created by the SVM method. To confirm the practicality of the susceptibility map produced by this improved method, a comparison study with LR, AHP was assessed by means of their validation. The outcome indicated that the combined fuzzy and SVM method (accuracy is 85.73 %) is better than AHP (accuracy is 78.84 %), whereas it is relatively similar to LR (accuracy is 84.55 %). The susceptibility map based on combined the fuzzy and SVM approach also shows that 5.8 % of the study area is assigned as very highly susceptible areas, and 17.8 % of the study area is assigned as highly susceptible areas. According to historic records, the wasteland northeast of modern Dunhuang oasis contains remarkable, undiscovered monuments of medieval courier stations. In this study, statistical analysis of historic records and census data, image processing and interpretation of satellite remote sensing images, GIS analysis, and field surveys were carried out to contribute to the discovery of courier stations and the reconstruction of the medieval royal road system from Guazhou to Shazhou. Firstly, in order to obtain the existence regions of courier stations, historic records and census data were abstracted and digitized, for generating preliminary regions of interest by using GIS tools. Secondly, dried river channels and traces of the Great Wall were extracted from the remote sensing images, and GIS buffer and overlay analyses were applied to the creation of prospective sub-areas. Thirdly, prospective sub-areas were mapped from very high resolution WorldView-2 images, and suspected sites were found based on the human-computer interactive interpretation. Fourthly, suspected sites were investigated on the GPS-based archaeological survey, and were confirmed as two courier stations based on the remains of Han-Tang period observed at sites' surface. Lastly, the royal road to ancient Dunhuang, one of the most important sections of the royal road system in the Hexi Corridor, was discussed and reconstructed with the combined application of remote sensing imagery and ground-truthing. Determining oil slick thickness plays an important role in assessing oil spill volume and its environmental impacts on the ocean. In this study, we used a Hyperion image of an oil spill accident area and seawater and fresh crude oil samples collected in the Bohai Sea of China. A well-controlled laboratory experiment was designed to simulate spectral responses to different oil slick thicknesses. Spectral resampling and normalization methods were used to reduce the differences in spectral reflectances between the experimental background seawater sample and real background seawater. Fitting the analysis with laboratory experimental data results showed a linear relationship between normalized oil slick reflectance and normalized oil slick thickness [20th band (R2=0.92938,n=49,p<0.01), 26th band (R2=0.93806,n=49,p<0.01), 29th band (R2=0.93288,n=49,p<0.01)]. By using these statistical models, we successfully determined the normalized oil slick thickness with the Hyperion image. Our results indicate that hyperspectral remote sensing technology is an effective method to monitor oil spills on water. The spectral ranges of visible green and red light were the optimal bands for estimating oil slick thickness in case 2 water. Abstract: The culture decline of Chaohu Lake Basin after the Han Dynasty is a remarkable archaeological phenomenon in the Jianghuai region, Anhui Province, East China. Analysis of the relevant historic records, combined with the new progress in environmental archaeological research and remote sensing data, demonstrates how the ancient culture of Chaohu Lake Basin declined after the Han Dynasty from a geoarchaeological perspective. The results show that the culture decline after the Han Dynasty may be caused by the environmental changes. The deterioration of climate conditions combined with floods, earthquakes and other natural disasters, as well as the climate background of Chinese economic and cultural center transfer, together with the north-south division of political geographic factors that led to war, all caused the ancient “Chao-Fei Channel” to decline gradually and destroyed the agricultural economic foundation of cultural development in the Chaohu Lake Basin. These also brought the decline of the development of settlements and substantial decreases in archaeological sites and burial numbers. The large earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale that occurred in Yushu County, Qinghai Province, China, on April 14, 2010, caused a huge loss of life and major damage to people's properties. Using three modal synthetic-aperture radar (SAR) datasets, wide-swath SAR, interferometric SAR and polarimetric SAR, the following studies were conducted: (1) From Radarsat-2 wide swath SAR data, the regional geological structures and lithologic distribution characteristics of the Yushu earthquake were analyzed. (2) Using advanced land observing satellite/phased array L-band interferometric SAR data, the coseismic deformation field of the Yushu earthquake was obtained, and the size and spatial distribution of deformation were studied combining with the result of regional geological background analysis. (3) From Radarsat-2 polarimetric SAR data, the H-α-ρ method was used to extract the spatial distribution of building collapse caused by the earthquake in the Yushu urban area, and the reasons for the severe earthquake damage to buildings are also discussed and assessed. A typical lake sediment core is obtained from the Chaohu Lake in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, Anhui Province, China. The timing scale is constrained by AMS 14C dating method. Climate proxies such as pollen and grain size in the core are analyzed to reconstruct the environment changes at this site approximately between 9870 and 2170 cal. a BR The results indicate that at the research area, the climate in the early-middle Holocene had evolved through 3 stages. From 9870 to 6040 cal. a BP, proxy records show a warm and dry climate with low water levels after the late-glacial period. During this stage, cool and dry events occurred at about 8910 and 6060-6030 cal. a BP. Then, between 6040 and 4860 cal. a BP, the climate was humid and vegetation was more flourishing in the Chaohu Lake Valley. The Holocene Optimum occurred at 5840-5500 cal. a BP in the Chaohu Lake, showing the best condition of water and heat. Elm Decline occurred at the period of 5380-4930 cal. a BP. Since 4860 cal. a BP, the climate was warm and dry through 2170 cal. a BP as shown in both pollen spectrum and grain-size histories. Two obvious dry events occurred in 3760 and 2170 cal. a BP, respectively. At 2170 cal. a BP, the water level of the Chaohu Lake reached the lowest as the lakebed possibly exposed. The Han Dynasty Great Wall (GH), one of the largest and most significant ancient defense projects in the whole of northern China, has been studied increasingly not only because it provides important information about the diplomatic and military strategies of the Han Empire (206 B.C.–220 A.D.), but also because it is considered to be a cultural and national symbol of modern China as well as a valuable archaeological monument. Thus, it is crucial to obtain the spatial pattern and preservation situation of the GH for next-step archaeological analysis and conservation management. Nowadays, remote sensing specialists and archaeologists have given priority to manual visualization and a (semi-) automatic extraction approach is lacking. Based on the very high-resolution (VHR) satellite remote sensing imagery, this paper aims to identify automatically the archaeological features of the GH located in ancient Dunhuang, northwest China. Gaofen-1 (GF-1) data were first processed and enhanced after image correction and mathematical morphology, and the M-statistic was then used to analyze the spectral characteristics of GF-1 multispectral (MS) data. In addition, based on GF-1 panchromatic (PAN) data, an auto-identification method that integrates an improved Otsu segmentation algorithm with a Linear Hough Transform (LHT) is proposed. Finally, by making a comparison with visual extraction results, the proposed method was assessed qualitatively and semi-quantitatively to have an accuracy of 80% for the homogenous background in Dunhuang. These automatic identification results could be used to map and evaluate the preservation state of the GH in Dunhuang. Also, the proposed automatic approach was applied to identify similar linear traces of other generations of the Great Wall of China (Western Xia Dynasty (581 A.D.–618 A.D.) and Ming Dynasty (1368 A.D.–1644 A.D.)) in various geographic regions. Moreover, the results indicate that the computer-based automatic identification has great potential in archaeological research, and the proposed method can be generalized and applied to monitor and evaluate the state of preservation of the Great Wall of China in the future. [Display omitted] The United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development provides an important framework for economic, social, and environmental action. A comprehensive indicator system to aid in the systematic implementation and monitoring of progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is unfortunately limited in many countries due to lack of data. The availability of a growing amount of multi-source data and rapid advancements in big data methods and infrastructure provide unique opportunities to mitigate these data shortages and develop innovative methodologies for comparatively monitoring SDGs. Big Earth Data, a special class of big data with spatial attributes, holds tremendous potential to facilitate science, technology, and innovation toward implementing SDGs around the world. Several programs and initiatives in China have invested in Big Earth Data infrastructure and capabilities, and have successfully carried out case studies to demonstrate their utility in sustainability science. This paper presents implementations of Big Earth Data in evaluating SDG indicators, including the development of new algorithms, indicator expansion (for SDG 11.4.1) and indicator extension (for SDG 11.3.1), introduction of a biodiversity risk index as a more effective analysis method for SDG 15.5.1, and several new high-quality data products, such as global net ecosystem productivity, high-resolution global mountain green cover index, and endangered species richness. These innovations are used to present a comprehensive analysis of SDGs 2, 6, 11, 13, 14, and 15 from 2010 to 2020 in China utilizing Big Earth Data, concluding that all six SDGs are on schedule to be achieved by 2030. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) across the genome are remarkably useful resources for investigating the genome architecture, studying the genetic basis of complex traits and implementation of genomic selection. However, information on high-density SNPs is unavailable for most aquaculture species owing to the high costs of whole genome sequencing. Genotype imputation is an attractive approach for obtaining large number of genomic variants at a low cost. In this study, the first haplotype reference panel was constructed for Chlamys farreri , an economically important mollusk species and a major contributor to aquaculture in China. A total of 174 scallops from six populations in the main scallop culture area were selected for whole-genome resequencing. More than 87.47 million SNPs were identified and 3,968,417 SNPs genome-wide were selected for constructing the haplotype reference panel for C. farreri. The number of SNPs per chromosome ranged from 125,000 to 279,981 with an average spacing of 242 bases. Several factors were evaluated based on the imputation performance of the reference panel. The imputation accuracies of 19 chromosomes ranged from 0.91 to 0.95, and there were no significant differences among them (p > 0.05). The imputation accuracies of populations could reach 0.95, 0.93, and 0.90 for ZY, PR, and CS respectively, which confirmed a positive relationship between the kinship within the population and the imputation accuracy. The imputation accuracies increased with sequencing depth and plateaued at 0.5×, reaching accuracies of 0.91–0.93 for artificially breeding populations. Taken together, we constructed a haplotype reference panel for C. farreri , which can provide a cost-effective way to extend the limited number of genotypes for boosting the power of downstream analyses such as genome-wide association studies and genomic selection. • The first haplotype reference panel of Chlamys farreri was constructed and included 3.9 M SNPs. • The imputation accuracy was not different among 19 chromosomes. • The imputation accuracy improved with increasement of kinship between target individuals and reference population. • The imputation accuracies could reach 0.93 with 0.5× sequencing depth. With the rapid development of tourism in the World Natural Heritage Sites (WNHSs), it made ecological environment issues increasingly become prominent while boosting regional economic development. Exploring the influence and evolution of natural and socio-economic factors will help to maintain the authenticity and integrity of the WNHSs, and promote sustainable development. Here, to better understand the sustainable development situation of the WNHSs, we construct a nature-society-based comprehensive evaluation framework, and combining the remote sensing-based ecological index (RSEI) with the spatial autocorrelation model, and employed the obstacle factor diagnostic model, to reveal the spatial–temporal characteristics and the key driving factor of ecological environment in the Jiuzhaigou. Meanwhile, we assess the integrated ecological sensitivity of the Jiuzhaigou and determine the key conservation area. Through the analysis of results, we find that RSEI from 2013 to 2020 exhibits a fluctuation trend resembling an "N-shape", high RSEI points tend to cluster in the southern part of the study area, while low RSEI points cluster in the northern part, it has a significant spatial heterogeneity. We shed further light on that when the number of tourists exceeds the population carrying capacity of the heritage site, the negative impacts of tourism development on the natural environment will outweigh the positive impacts of tourism revenue growth on regional economic development and constrain the sustainable development of the site as a whole. Specifically, dissolved oxygen concentration in water, nitrogen dioxide concentration, and noise are the main drivers of nature. The proportion of tertiary industry, fixed asset investment, and total tourism consumption are the main drivers of society. Furthermore, the ecological sensitivity of Jiuzhaigou is moderately low. Therefore, we suggest that the government should improve and refine the existing disaster early warning mechanism, dynamically adjust and control the number of tourists received per day, harmonize the relationship between economic development and environmental protection, and strengthen the protection of authenticity and integrity in areas of high ecological sensitivity. Background: Nedaplatin-based concurrent chemoradiotherapy became an alternative doublet treatment strategy to cisplatin-based concurrent chemoradiotherapy in patients with locoregional, advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma.Materials and Methods: Using a Markov model, we simulated patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma from disease-free to death. Input data for the model were collected from published literature and the standard fee database of West China Hospital. The outcome was expressed in quality-adjusted-years (QALYs), net monetary benefit at the threshold of $25,841, three times the Gross Domestic Product of China in 2017. The costs and benefits were discounted at 3% annually and a half-cycle correction was considered. The input parameters were varied in one-way sensitivity analysis to confirm the robustness of the model. All of the primary analyses used second-order probabilistic sensitivity analysis to capture the impact of parameter uncertainty based on 10,000 Monte-Carlo simulations.Results: The mean QALYs of treatment in stage II-IVB nasopharyngeal carcinoma were comparable: 2.90 QALYs for nedaplatin and 3.12 QALYs for cisplatin. Nedaplatin cost $34,505 compared with $27,167 for cisplatin, generating an incremental net monetary benefit of nedaplatin versus cisplatin of $-13,357 at the ceiling ratio of $25,841. The results of nedaplatin remained cost-ineffective over the majority of the sensitivity analyses. The cost-effectiveness curve showed that the probability of strategies being cost-effective were 0% for nedaplatin and 100% for cisplatin in stage II-IVB nasopharyngeal carcinoma at any willingness-to-pay threshold.Conclusions: Nedaplatin is a dominated, cost-ineffective alternative to concurrent chemoradiotherapy in stage II-IVB nasopharyngeal carcinoma compared with cisplatin from the perspective of Chinese society. Through analysis of the concentration of different-sized charcoals and magnetic susceptibility of the CH-1 core from Chaohu Lake, East China during the Holocene, the features of fire in relation to environmental change in the charcoal record and the effect of human activities were revealed. Between 9870 and 6040 cal yr BP, the climate was still relatively dry, although it was becoming warmer and wetter. The relatively dry climate apparently created favorable conditions for natural fires to occur, which suggests that the charcoal concentration was high. The warmest and wettest period was from 6040 to 2170 cal yr BP during the Holocene, and very little charcoal was found in the core, because the high precipitation during this period apparently suppressed natural fires. However, human activities increased the fire frequency during the cultural phase. Archaeological investigations indicate that a large number of Neolithic and historic sites, including the Lingjiatan cultural sites (5600–5300 cal yr BP), were distributed around Chaohu Lake. As a result, value peaks in the charcoal concentration were shown. After 2170 cal yr BP, the climate became drier and cooler, and conditions were once again favorable for fires to occur naturally. The concentration of charcoal in the core greatly increased and showed the greatest levels of fire activity, which was related to both the drier climate and the enhanced human activities. The water level of Chaohu Lake reached a minimum in this period, as the lakebed was possibly exposed and formed the substrate for ancient sites, such as the flourishing Juchao state (2090–1710 cal yr BP). During the most recent 200 years, the amount of charcoal concentration sharply decreased, and fire occurrence disappeared gradually because there was not enough biomass in the Chaohu Lake basin. Following China's pilot program of the released Carbon Emission Trading (CET) in 2011, affected companies were forced to alter their production and operational choices, which had an impact on their labor demand and employment structure. This study examines the employment adjustment effect and employment transfer effect of CET in China using propensity score matching (PSM) and difference-in-differences (DID) method, based on the panel data of Chinese listed companies (2009–2019). We found that China's CET has expanded the scale of employment and changed the employment structure in the pilot regions. The employment adjustment effect of CET mainly comes from the First-tier pilot regions, and it mostly affects the highly educated work force. CET increased the proportion of highly-educated labor through the increase of R&D innovation and investment, while reduced the proportion of production worker employed due to the increase of production cost, it promotes the transfer of labor from underdeveloped regions to First-tier pilot regions. Litter decomposition is an important ecosystem process and a key determinant of nutrient turnover and carbon cycling in arid and semiarid regions. Sand burial is common in arid and semiarid regions and may strongly influence litter decomposition. However, the main factors influencing litter decomposition under sand burial conditions are uncertain. We performed a litter bag experiment over 3 years to understand the effects of sand burial on litter mass loss and measured abiotic factors (light intensity, soil temperature and humidity) and initial litter traits to determine which factors most influenced litter mass losses. The leaf litters of three dominant shrubs (Artemisia halodendron , Caragana microphylla , and Salix gordejevii) in the Horqin Sandy Land of northern China were selected, and four burial depths (surface, 5 cm, 10 cm, and 20 cm) were used. The results showed that the litter from the three shrubs under the surface treatment (no burial) and at the 5 cm burial depth decomposed more rapidly than the litter that was buried at depths of 10 cm and 20 cm. This is explained because the abiotic factors on the surface and at 5 cm burial depth were conducive for the mass loss of litter. The differences in litter mass losses among the three shrubs were not significant under other burial treatments, except that A. halodendron 's litter decomposed significantly faster than litter from the other two shrubs at depths of 10 cm. Species differences in litter traits were weaker than the effects of burial depths and retrieval times on litter mass loss. The stepwise regression analysis showed that light intensity and soil temperature were the most important factors influencing the mean litter mass loss of 3 years. Therefore, we concluded that relative to the initial litter traits, abiotic factors are more able to indicate the leaf litter mass loss under sand burial conditions, and abiotic factors limiting litter mass loss switch with burial depths. Microbial communities assemble stochastically and deterministically, but how different assembly processes shape diatom community structure across riverine habitats is unclear, especially in sediment-laden environments. In this study, we deciphered the mechanisms of riverine diatom community assembly in the water column and riverbed substrate with varying sediment concentrations. Water and sediment samples were collected from 44 sampling sites along the Yellow River mainstream during two seasons. Diatom communities were characterized based on high-throughput sequencing of the 18S ribosomal RNA genes coupled with multivariate statistical analyses. A total of 198 diatom species were taxonomically assigned, including 182 free-living and particle-attached species and 184 surface-sediment species. Planktonic communities were structurally different from benthic communities, with Cyclotella being dominant mainly in the middle and lower reaches of the river with higher sediment concentrations. Both stochastic and deterministic processes affected diatom community assembly in different habitats. Species dispersal was more important in the water than in the substrate, and this process was strengthened by increased sediment concentration across habitats. Diatom communities exhibited lower network complexity and enhanced antagonistic or competitive interactions between species in response to higher sediment concentrations compared with lower sediment concentrations mainly in the source region of the river. Differences in the species composition and community diversity of planktonic diatoms were closely correlated with the proportion of bare land area, nitrogen nutrients, precipitation, and sediment concentration. In particular, particle-attached diatoms responded sensitively to environmental factors. Background: The purpose of this study was to survey the associations of six single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the TMOD1 and PTCSC2 genes with thyroid carcinoma (TC)., Method: Peripheral blood samples were obtained from 510 patients with TC and 509 normal controls. Six SNPs were genotyped by the Agena MassARRAY platform. Logistic regression was used to evaluate the association between SNPs and TC susceptibility by calculating odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). SNP-SNP interactions were analyzed by multifactor dimensionality reduction (MDR)., Results: Our study showed that rs925489 (OR = 1.45, p = 0.011) and rs965513 (OR = 1.40, p = 0.021) were significantly associated with an increased risk of TC. Rs10982622 decreased TC risk (OR = 0.74, p = 0.025). Further stratification analysis showed that rs10982622 reduced the susceptibility to TC in patients aged ≤ 45 years (OR = 0.69, p = 0.019) and in females (OR = 0.61, p = 0.014). Rs925489 increased TC risk in people aged > 45 years (OR = 1.54, p = 0.044) and in males (OR = 2.34, p = 0.003). In addition, rs965513 was related to an increased risk of TC in males (OR = 2.14, p = 0.007). Additionally, haplotypes in the block (rs925489|rs965513) significantly increased TC risk (p < 0.05). The best predictive model for TC was the combination of rs1052270, rs10982622, rs1475545, rs16924016, and rs925489., Conclusion: TMOD1 and PTCSC2 polymorphisms were separately correlated with a remarkable decrease and increase in TC risk based on the analysis., (© 2022. Objectives: To explore the impact of informal social support (ISS) on older health., Methods: Multiple regression was used as the baseline regression, grouping regression was used to examine whether there were health effect differences among groups based on age and household registration, and insurance was selected to explore moderating effects of formal social support (FSS)., Results: First, economic support, accompanied support, and number of intimate contacts had significantly positive effects on older health except for care support's negative effects. Second, ISS had different health effects for different groups based on age and household registration. Third, FSS was a significant moderating for ISS., Conclusions: The government should emphasize and strengthen the supplementary role of ISS to FSS and promote the effective combination of the two, especially for the older who are high-age and rural, and further improve the role of care support.

Acetyl ligation to the amino acids in a protein is an important posttranslational modification. However, in contrast to lysine acetylation, N-terminal acetylation is elusive in terms of its cellular functions. Here, we identify Nat3 as an N-terminal acetyltransferase essential for autophagy, a catabolic pathway for bulk transport and degradation of cytoplasmic components. We identify the actin cytoskeleton constituent Act1 and dynamin-like GTPase Vps1 (vacuolar protein sorting 1) as substrates for Nat3-mediated N-terminal acetylation of the first methionine. Acetylated Act1 forms actin filaments and therefore promotes the transport of Atg9 vesicles for autophagosome formation; acetylated Vps1 recruits and facilitates bundling of the SNARE (soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor activating protein receptor) complex for autophagosome fusion with vacuoles. Abolishment of the N-terminal acetylation of Act1 and Vps1 is associated with blockage of upstream and downstream steps of the autophagy process. Purpose: The AXEPT trial demonstrated that modified XELIRI (mXELIRI; capecitabine + irinotecan) was noninferior to standard treatment with FOLFIRI (fluorouracil + leucovorin + irinotecan), both ± bevacizumab, in the treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). The present study was designed to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of mXELIRI versus FOLFIRI as a second-line treatment of mCRC., Methods: We developed a Markov model to estimate the costs and health outcomes of mXELIRI and FOLFIRI in patients with mCRC from the Chinese payer perspective. Survival data, transition probabilities, and health utility values were obtained from published studies. The costs of drugs were obtained from the West China Hospital. Life-years (LYs), quality-adjusted life-years (QALYs) gained, incremental cost-utility ratio (ICUR), and incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) values were regarded as the primary end points. One-way sensitivity analysis and probabilistic sensitivity analysis were performed to evaluate the impact of uncertainty of parameters in the analysis., Findings: The effectiveness was found to be 0.48 QALYs (1.14 LYs) in the mXELIRI arm and 0.41 QALYs (1.05 LYs) in the FOLFIRI arm, with total costs of 29,896.41 US dollars (USD) in the mXELIRI arm and 28,894.68 USD in the FOLFIRI arm. The ICER and ICUR with mXELIRI versus FOLFIRI were 11,130.33 USD/LY and 14,310.43 USD/QALY gained, which were less than the willingness-to-pay threshold in China (25,840.88 USD/QALY)., Implications: Based on the results of this study, mXELIRI was found to be a cost-effective alternative to FOLFIRI as a second-line treatment of mCRC in patients in China., (Copyright © 2020 Elsevier Inc.
