Rear‐lamp tracking at night is a research topic in night vision that is essential for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Most current computer vision‐based methods address this problem using color features because rear lamps are lit during night driving. However, such methods are sufficiently robust in complex environments owing to the lack of feature diversity. On the other hand, as there is no off‐the‐shelf dataset, the application of deep learning to nighttime rear‐lamp tracking has been sparsely explored. To tackle the above issues, in this paper, we propose hierarchical rear‐lamp tracking at nighttime (H‐RTN) and create a novel dataset for rear‐lamp tracking. Specifically, the H‐RTN consists of a rough detection hierarchy (R‐hierarchy), an accurate detection hierarchy (A‐hierarchy), and an optimization hierarchy (O‐hierarchy). The R‐hierarchy determines the region of interest (ROI) containing the target rear lamps, the A‐hierarchy samples the rear‐lamp candidates in the ROI, and the O‐hierarchy selects the best pair of candidates as the final location of the target rear lamps. Many recent sequential recommendation methods have aimed to enhance the modeling of users' diverse interests to provide more accurate and varied recommendations. Despite great success, existing models possess a limitation in their capacity to solely perceive items within a user behavior sequence. Such an approach may potentially constrain their ability to effectively discover users' multiple interests. In this paper, we present a novel approach that addresses this gap by harnessing global item transitions to uncover users' potential interests, subsequently modeling them as local subsequences. To achieve this objective, we represent global item transitions as a directed graph, constructed by amalgamating behavior sequences from the training set. This graph‐based representation allows the design of a specialized module capable of aggregating global item transitional information and uncovering local subsequences specific to individual users. Consequently, downstream sequence models can focus on pertinent item transitions, disregarding unrelated ones. Active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) has been widely used in the permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (PMLSM) drive system for its strong anti‐disturbance ability and fast response speed. However, a large number of adjustment parameters add difficulties to its application. To solve this problem, a novel sliding mode‐based active disturbance rejection control (SM‐ADRC) with autotuned parameters is proposed in this paper. In this control strategy, the SM is incorporated with extended state observer (ESO) and nonlinear state error feedback (NLSEF) to reduce the number of adjustment parameters. The simulated annealing particle swarm optimization (SAPSO) algorithm is carried out to achieve the optimal configuration and realize parameter self‐tuning. Replicating specific scents by mixing 'base odors' is the main idea behind the concept of odor reproduction. Just as primary colors can be combined to generate a wide range of colors in visual perception, the hope is to find a similar principle in olfaction. However, defining such 'primary odors' is difficult due to the complexity of our sense of smell, which is much different from vision. In spite of these challenges, numerous scientists have endeavored to identify a combination of basic smell components that can mimic various scents. Currently, the suggested combinations of smell components are typically only successful at recreating specific, intended scents. The range of reproducible scents differs based on the selection of base odors, yet these studies have provided valuable knowledge about the nature of these primary odors. This review paper will focus on the latest studies related to odor reproduction. Accurate traffic volume prediction plays a crucial role in urban traffic control by relieving congestion through improved regulation of traffic volume. Network‐level traffic volume prediction and detector failure have rarely been considered in the literature. This paper proposes a framework based on long short‐term memory and the multilayer perceptron that can predict network‐level traffic volumes even with detector failure. A profile model learns the profile of the detector's signature (traffic pattern). Detectors with similar profiles are considered to have similar traffic patterns and are grouped into a cluster. Failed detectors can obtain reference information from similar detectors in the same cluster without additional information. A predictive model is developed for each cluster. The proposed method is validated using Japan Road Traffic Information Center data for three cities. The computational results indicate that the proposed method performs well both on typical days and atypical days (the COVID‐19 lockdown period and the 2021 Tokyo Olympics). Further, it considers detector reliability: the increase in mean absolute error is less than 1 veh/5 min when the probability of detector failure increases to 20%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In an electric power system with a large number of renewable energy sources such as wind farms (WFs), the WF's output would be curtailed in order to maintain the supply–demand balance when it is predicted that there would be excess power generation in the entire system. In this case, it is important to ensure fairness among WFs from the viewpoint of the curtailed outputs and to minimize the total of the curtailed power. In this paper, we propose a measure to simultaneously achieve a reduction in curtailed power and a fair upper limit using demand response. Frequency response analysis (FRA) method has been widely used in the world, but the interpretation of its signatures is still a hard problem to solve. This paper introduces a method of the sum of two‐way shortest distance for transformer winding deformation fault diagnosis, which is based on trajectory similarity between FRA signatures. Compared with most existing methods, it does not need order preservation; however, it focuses more on the trajectory itself. The geometric principle of the sum of two‐way shortest distance is introduced and analyzed in detail. By using the circuit analysis software, the equivalent circuit model of the transformer is established, a group of the FRA signatures of three types of transformer winding fault, including axial displacement, radial deformation, and disk space variation fault, are obtained. The distribution of different type of faults is studied by using the sum of two‐way shortest distance to process the FRA signatures in three different frequency bands. Using the sum of two‐way shortest distance as input, the support vector machine (SVM) is employed to train a predictive engine for transformer winding deformation fault diagnosis. To enhance the stability of power system, a power system stabilizer (PSS) is one of the control mechanisms installed in the power plants. A suitable PSS parameters set can help in reducing the power swing. In general, the design of PSS parameters is performed based on a nominal operating condition of the power system. In this paper, a multi‐objective optimization algorithm based on pole placement technique is proposed to find a robust PSS parameters set. The proposed strategy searches for the optimal PSS parameters under multiple operating conditions of the generator. In this paper, a novel differential dual‐rotor contra‐rotating axial‐flux PM (DDC‐AFPM) motor with equidirectional toroidal winding (EDTW) applied to electric propulsion of ships is proposed. Different from the conventional AFPM motor with contra‐rotating rotors (CR), the rotors of the proposed motor on both sides of the stator rotate oppositely at different speeds. The structure of the proposed motor is introduced and the operation principle is clarified. Initial parameters of the proposed motor are given, and the correctness of the simulation results is indirectly verified through the prototype of the AFPM motor with dual‐rotor and EDTW. In order to further improve the electromagnetic performance of the proposed motor, parameters of the motor are preliminarily improved. Finally, the electromagnetic characteristics including armature field, no‐load and on‐load characteristics of the proposed motor are analyzed based on three‐dimensional finite element method (3D‐FEM). In this paper, an online compensation predictive control method based on hybrid torque sharing function (HTSF) is proposed to reduce current spikes in the torque sharing control of switched reluctance motor (SRM). First, predictive control is introduced to the torque sharing function (TSF) and a new cost function is designed with Laplace multiplier method by predicting the current and torque of the next cycle of SRM. Then the optimal current control amount is carried out. Second, the ratio of the torque error to the desired torque and its derivative are compensated online to the current phase at the beginning of the commutation overlap period to accurately track the torque, and the torque distribution is optimized by a HTSF at the end of the phase change to further reduce the current spikes and suppress the torque ripple. Finally, the experiment on 8/6 four‐phase SRM is achieved to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed control strategy, and the results show that the current spikes and the torque ripple are reduced by 25% and 14.5% respectively. The long‐stroke electromagnetic repulsion mechanism is subjected to large stresses during the driving phase, and the repulsion disc is prone to fracture due to excessive vibration amplitude up and down. Therefore, it is necessary to reduce the peak stress and vibration amplitude of the repulsion disc, improve the mechanical life, and improve the driving performance without decreasing the motion displacement, but it is not possible to do so at present. To address this problem, this paper takes the 'coil‐repulsion disc type' electromagnetic repulsion mechanism as the research object, and builds a simulation model of electromagnetic repulsion mechanism with structural strength and driving performance by using finite element simulation software, and analyzes the effects of four structural parameters, namely, the height of the repulsion disc, the inner diameter of the repulsion disc, the radius of the circular table and the radius of the chamfer, on the displacement and stress distribution of the model. After that, 39 sets of samples were output by BBD experimental design method, which were introduced into the BP neural network prediction model and combined with NSGA‐II algorithm to optimize the structure of the electromagnetic repulsion mechanism. The simulation results show that with the repulsion disc height of 14 mm, the repulsion disc inner diameter of 14 mm, the radius of the circular table is 29.78 mm and the chamfer radius of 7.06 mm, the peak stress of the repulsion disc of the electromagnetic repulsion mechanism is reduced by 57.83%, the amplitude of the repulsion disc is reduced by 3.24 mm, the peak electromagnetic repulsion force is increased by 7.52 kN and speed at the end of 3 ms increased by 9.8%. Under the condition of satisfying the constraints and increasing the overall displacement, the structural strength is increased and the driving performance of the mechanism is ensured to be improved, providing reasonable mechanism parameters for the opening and closing requirements of the fast mechanical switch. © 2023 Institute of Electrical Engineer of Japan and Wiley Periodicals LLC. Background: Japanese EFL learners often fail to identify and categorise the different degrees of certainty associated with CERTAIN, PROBABLE, and POSSIBLE items. This computer‐mediated study evaluated the relative effects of animated versus static illustrations on stimulating the spatial concept of distance for the acquisition of this knowledge. Objectives: This study aimed to: (1) discover whether the spatial concept of distance captured by three‐dimensional (3D) images in animated or static illustrations help learners understand spatial relationships more clearly, and (2) whether a static illustration is sufficient for learning the different degrees of certainty. Method: Animated and static visualisation groups used 3D images of animated versus static illustrations that capture the spatial concept of distance, and a contrasting group did not use illustrations. The former applied the spatial concept of distance to learn the degrees of certainty, using animated or static illustrations. A spatial concept‐oriented approach that visualises concepts of distance enabled participants to understand the degrees of certainty. The contrasting approach involved rote learning of a list of target expressions for the different degrees of certainty in English. Results and Conclusions: Both the animated and static versions of the spatial concept‐oriented approaches were equally effective. The difference between the two versions did not significantly impact the overall performance of the groups. Takeaways: Regardless of the type of effect, the spatial concept of distance captured in words and illustrations helped the participants (1) process the different degrees of certainty cognitively in terms of distances and (2) retain them in long‐term memory. On March 16, 2020, the Director‐General of the World Health Organization said: "We have a simple message to all countries—test, test, test." This seems like sound advice, but what if limiting the number of tests has a positive effect on infection control? Although this may rarely be the case, the possibility raises an important ethical question that is closely related to a central tension between deontological and consequentialist approaches to ethics. In this paper, we first argue that early during the COVID‐19 pandemic, Japan offers an interesting case because it experienced few deaths due to COVID while the number of tests was limited, suggesting that there may be cases in which low testing contributes to infection control indeed. After that, we examine deontological constraints on such a "low‐testing" policy, focusing on issues related to a supposed "right to know," which is a central issue in medical ethics in general. The ongoing global pandemic has brought into sharp relief the possible interactions between the epidemiology of a virus, the structure of the economy and society that becomes exposed to it, and the actions chosen by government, individuals, and communities to combat it or ameliorate its economic impact. Surprisingly, there has not been sufficient research on these economic and policy interactions of the 1918–1920 influenza pandemic—the deadliest pandemic of the 20th century. This paper focuses on Japan, which as a minor participant of and was not directly affected by World War I. We exploit the diversity of experiences with the pandemic and its attendant policy responses across Japanese prefectures; and investigate the importance of the pandemic's toll (measured by excess mortality), and of nonpharmaceutical policy interventions (NPIs), in determining the pandemic's economic impact. We do so by focusing on the production and employment in the textile sector, given the availability of data and the general importance of the textile sector for emerging economies (as Japan was at the time). We find a significant adverse impact of the pandemic on textiles (almost 30% for an average prefectural excess mortality shock) and indeed find that the implemented NPIs were effective in ameliorating around one half of the pandemic's adverse economic consequences, especially for textile output (rather than employment). Furthermore, these NPIs were more effective when the excess mortality was higher. In this case, there was no trade‐off between money and life, but rather the two were complimentary. This paper was arranged a polymer cylinder around a Cu fuse‐element to increase both an arc resistance rarc$$ {r}_{\mathrm{arc}} $$ during a DC arc quenching process and an insulation resistance Rins$$ {R}_{\mathrm{ins}} $$ after the DC arc quenching. The used polymer cylinder equips a narrow‐section with a width wP$$ {w}_{\mathrm{P}} $$ made from the polymer. A position of the narrow‐section was around an arc‐ignition point of the Cu fuse‐element. Silica‐sand (SiO2‐sand) was filled inside the polymer cylinder. Then, a damping DC with a prospective peak of 1000 A was energized to the Cu fuse‐element. As an experimental result, rarc$$ {r}_{\mathrm{arc}} $$ was successfully increased with wP$$ {w}_{\mathrm{P}} $$ of the narrow‐section. In addition, the rise in wP$$ {w}_{\mathrm{P}} $$ of the narrow‐section also increased Rins$$ {R}_{\mathrm{ins}} $$ to more than 10 MΩ$$ \mathrm{M}\Omega $$ under the DC 1000 V application after the arc quenching. In order to interpret rarc$$ {r}_{\mathrm{arc}} $$ rise and high Rins$$ {R}_{\mathrm{ins}} $$ under the polymer cylinder arrangement, chemical composition, an electrical resistivity ρ$$ \rho $$, and a thermal diffusivity α$$ \alpha $$ of Cu/SiO2/Polymer vapor mixture was also calculated. Based on the experimental result and calculation result, rarc$$ {r}_{\mathrm{arc}} $$ rise can be interpreted based on rise in ρ$$ \rho $$ and α$$ \alpha $$ due to the polymer vapor admixing into Cu/SiO2 vapor mixture. In addition, increasing Rins$$ {R}_{\mathrm{ins}} $$ can also be interpreted by the polymer ablation of the narrow‐section of the cylinder. The commonly used DC coil wounded around the electromagnet winding skeleton, acts as the key electro‐magnetic conversion element, is formed by enameled wire with poor heat dissipation. The electric conductivity of the conductors will be greatly influenced by the high temperature generated from coil's internal heat, especially for long‐term work conditions. Thus, in order to calculate the DC coil's temperature accurately and effectively during the primary design process of the electromagnet, a novel temperature rise calculation method for the steady and transient is proposed in this paper. First, the geometric and resistance models of the enameled wire are established, according to the spatial arrangement and the resistance‐temperature characteristics. Secondly, the temperature rise of the electromagnet coil is calculated theoretically, based on the steady and transient heat dissipation equations. Thirdly, the Thermal‐Electric simulation model is established, which is used to simulate and analyze the temperature of the electromagnet coil changing with excitation voltage. Finally, a temperature rise test platform of the electromagnet coil is established, the steady and transient temperature rise under various conditions is measured. The temperature rise results of theoretical calculation, simulation and experiment show good agreement with each other. With the increase of nonlinear loads (such as electric arc furnace, electrified railway, etc.) in power system, the harmonic distortion and unbalance of voltage and current are becoming more and more serious. The energy flow in the system is more complex and variable, and the power factor calculation method is controversial. This paper summarizes the influence factors and calculation methods of power factor for nonsinusoidal and unbalanced systems. The calculation methods of arithmetic power factor, vector power factor and effective power factor are compared first, and then the power factor calculation method recommended by IEEE Std 1459‐2010 and its improvement method under three‐phase balance user, active power calculation and metering error are analyzed, and the recommended calculation methods for different situations are given. Aiming at the problem of difficulties in heat dissipation for a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) with high power/torque density, the effect of motor length‐to‐diameter ratio (r0) on the selection of cooling water channels is investigated from the perspective of the geometric parameters of the PMSM in this paper. First, the 3‐D fluid–solid coupled heat transfer models of three actual motors with the length‐to‐diameter ratios of 0.27, 0.81 and 2.04 are established. Every model is calculated under spiral, axial and circumferential cooling water channels, respectively. The cooling effect, cooling energy loss and motor thermal balance are compared and analyzed. Then the optimal cooling water channel for each of three motors is confirmed. Further, the motor temperature rise and fluid differential pressure are plotted. The threshold of motor length‐to‐diameter ratios is determined at which the overall performance of the axial and circumferential cooling water channel is highly similar. The general conclusions of selection of cooling water channels for PMSMs with different geometry shape are summarized. In this paper, we compare air‐conducted (AC) speech with bone‐conducted (BC) speech for the purpose of utilizing them in packet loss concealment (PLC) for speech quality of voice over internet protocol (VoIP). Instead of the autocorrelation method of linear prediction (LP), which was utilized in the conventional PLC techniques, we employ the modified covariance (MC) method. The MC method provides accurate LP estimation from short input data samples and avoids the numerical problem the autocorrelation method suffers from. The lost frame is compensated from both forward and backward directions in which linear gain and weighting are applied. When BC speech is used as the input speech data for PLC in the case where the speech sender is in noisy environments, BC speech behaves more accurately than the corresponding AC speech, resulting in an excellent performance of the LP‐based PLC technique. This unveils a useful use of BC speech in speech information systems. Experiments show that in severe noise environments of AC speech‐to‐noise ratio being less than 10 dB, BC speech is superior to AC speech for PLC. It is also shown that the transmitted BC speech is more accurately reconstructed for PLC than transmitted AC speech is done. © 2023 The Authors. The five‐phase induction motor, being the most elementary form of multiphase induction motors, boasts low noise, low torque fluctuations, and high load‐bearing capacity, and is hence suitably employed in domains where high power and reliability are required. In light of the susceptibility of the speed encoder to interference from external environments, this paper proposes a sensorless vector control technique for the five‐phase induction motor based on a speed‐adaptive full‐order observer. The proposed approach first employs the nearest four‐vector space vector pulse width modulation (NFV‐SVPWM) as the modulation technique for the five‐phase inverter, in order to provide a constant switching frequency and low harmonic losses. Subsequently, the expression for the speed‐adaptive full‐order observer is constructed based on the mathematical model of the fundamental space of the five‐phase induction motor, and the expression for the adaptive speed law is deduced using the Lyapunov function. Additionally, the bilinear transformation method is utilized as the discretization technique for the full‐order observer during the process of digital implementation, in order to achieve higher discrete accuracy. In Hokuriku area, where lightning strikes with a large amount of electric charge occur in winter, failure rate of lightning protection devices such as surge arresters and devices with built‐in zinc oxide (ZnO) elements tends to be high. In order to prevent failure of surge arresters, 5 kA surge arresters which have a larger energy capability are installed on terminal poles of distribution lines. As for lightning protection of pole‐mounted distribution transformers, insulators with ZnO are utilized to support medium‐voltage drop wires connected to the transformers on non‐terminal poles. In this paper, we have studied the effect of insulators with 5 kA ZnO which have a larger energy capability as a lightning protection measure for transformers on terminal poles using lightning‐surge analysis. The lightning outage rate, which is the total of insulation breakdown rate and failure rate of a lightning protection device, is found to be lower in the case of insulators with 5 kA ZnO than in the case of 5 kA surge arresters. Along with the commercialization of SiC‐MOSFETs and progress in the development of GaN power devices, high‐speed, high‐frequency switching and reduction in conduction loss of power devices are expected. Hence reduction of the size and increase of conversion efficiency of power electronics equipment is greatly expected. On the other hand, even if power devices are switched at high speed and high frequency, the loss of passive devices such as transformers, inductors, and capacitors used in power converters increases, making it difficult to make the power converters smaller than expected. In other words, there is a demand for performance improvements of passive devices from various viewpoints, including miniaturization and low loss, which are compatible with high‐speed, high‐frequency switching operations of power devices. Dissolved gas in transformer oil (DGA) online monitoring data can reflect equipment insulation performance, which provides an important basis for transformer condition assessment. The accuracy of online monitoring data directly affects the correctness of transformer condition assessment, and the health condition of the online monitoring data device also affects the effectiveness and reasonableness of online monitoring data. With the accumulation of operation time, the DGA online monitoring device faces many problems, resulting in the overall deviation of this indicator data from the actual value, and the transformer online monitoring device cannot play its monitoring effect. To solve these problems, this paper firstly linearizes the data of the DGA online monitoring device by segmentation, extracts the characteristics of the line segment curve, constructs a segmented correlation mining model, and mines the correlation of different indicators of DGA. Then, according to the change of correlation strength and weakness between online monitoring data in time sequence, the data deviation is tracked. Finally, a multi‐indicator back propagation (BP) neural network algorithm optimized by the genetic simulated annealing algorithm is constructed to calibrate the deviated data. Triggering intrusions of phreatic eruptions are often observed as seismic and ground deformation signals on a time scale of minutes. The current understanding of hydrothermal intrusions still needs improvement to obtain insight into the eruption scale from the observables. We examine local geophysical data from the precursory hydrothermal intrusion of the 2018 phreatic eruption of Kusatsu‐Shirane volcano. To achieve an integrated intrusion model, we divide analyzing time window into the onset, middle, and climax. Focusing on the transient response of tilt data for the sudden pressurization, we estimate a vertical tensile opening (1.7 × 103 m3/s in 40 s) at 1.1 km depth for the intrusion onset. Pressurization can represent the start of vapourization. Very long period (VLP, 0.033–0.1 Hz) seismic signals are adopted to constrain the middle and climax phases. We obtained two sequential semi‐horizontal tensile crack oscillation sources with peak volume changes of 3.6 × 104–1.9 × 105 m3 at 0.3–0.6 km depths. The second VLP source acted as a final trigger of the eruption to cause depressurization in the shallow portion of the intruded region, which is constrained as having reached 0.1 km depth by surface deformation. Simultaneously, we find another depressurization originated from depth in the climax due to a decrease in the hydrothermal intrusion rate. Through comparison with the 2014 Ontake phreatic eruption, the total inflation volume may correlate with eruption scales. Intruded hydrothermal fluid and local structure characteristics also may have to be considered to evaluate the eruptions scales from inferred signal source intensity. Plain Language Summary: Phreatic eruptions, emitting non‐fresh magma fragments, are driven by underground water and gas mixtures intruding into the subsurface. Local geophysical observations often detect intrusions as seismic and ground deformation signals. Those observation data potentially provide insight into eruption and hazard scale evaluations. However, such an interpretation is still challenging for the current understanding. This paper examines seismic and ground deformation data associated with the precursory intrusion of a phreatic eruption at Kusatsu‐Shirane volcano in Japan, revealing a detailed hydrothermal intrusion process. Using ground deformation data, we have found that an aqueous intrusion started at 1.1 km depth. This starting process may represent the vapourization onset of underground water and gas mixtures. By analyzing seismic signals having a longer dominant period (>10 s), we revealed the intrusion path from the starting region to beneath the 2018 eruption vent and the final triggering for the eruption. Through comparisons with other phreatic eruptions, we find that the total deformation volume may correlate with the eruption intensity scales such as the mass emitted volcanic ash and the maximum eruption cloud height. However, there is still room for considering hydrothermal fluid characteristics and local structures to evaluate the eruption scale properly from observed data. This paper presents a strategy for direct‐driving a turbine with an external rotor high‐speed permanent magnet motor. It is used to improve the large footprint, low efficiency, high maintenance costs, and high vibration risk of turbines. Combining the characteristics of the working conditions of pipeline gas transmission, this paper takes a 200 kW, 10 000 rpm external rotor high‐speed permanent magnet motor as an example. This paper analyzes the eddy current losses in the rotor due to the armature magnetomotive force generated by the stator fundamental and harmonic currents. To reduce eddy current losses in permanent magnets, a circumferentially segmented pole structure is proposed for theoretical comparison and FEA with common surface‐mounted pole structures under different loads and work angles. The results confirm that the circumferentially segmented pole can effectively reduce the eddy current loss of the permanent magnet rotor. The effect of variations in the pole arc coefficient on eddy current losses in permanent magnets is also analyzed. Finally, the temperature field simulation of the motor is carried out under consideration of wind mill losses. By setting up three comparison groups with different conditions, this paper analyses the influence of the temperature and flow rate of the gas on the temperature rise and heat dissipation of the motor in a high‐temperature gas environment. © 2023 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. Several multimedia applications have recently been implemented on mobile devices, including digital image compression, video compression, and audio processing. Furthermore, Artificial Intelligence (AI) processing has grown in popularity, necessitating the execution of large amounts of data in mobile devices. Therefore, the processing core in a mobile device requires high performance, programmability, and versatility. Multimedia apps for mobile devices typically comprise repeated arithmetic and table‐lookup coding operations. A Content Addressable Memory‐based massive‐parallel SIMD matriX core (CAMX) is presented to increase the processing speed of both operations on a processing core. The CAMX serves as a CPU core accelerator for mobile devices. The CAMX supports high‐parallel processing and is equipped with two CAM modules for high‐speed repeated arithmetic and table‐lookup coding operations. The CAMX has great performance, programmability, and versatility on mobile devices because it can handle logical, arithmetic, search, and shift operations in parallel. This paper shows that the CAMX can process parallel repeated arithmetic and table‐lookup coding operations; single‐precision floating‐point arithmetic can calculate 1024 entries in 5613 clock cycles in parallel without embedding a dedicated floating‐point arithmetic unit. This clock cycle using two's complement‐reduced floating‐point addition implementation decreases 59% than the implementation of straight‐forward floating‐point addition. The implementation of straight‐forward floating‐point additions is improved as two's complement instruction reduced algorithms. Thus, this paper proposes an instruction reduction architecture by modulating the CAMX to directly access the data in the left and right CAM modules from the preserve register. The CAMX has achieved high performance, programmability, and versatility by not embedding a dedicated processing unit. Moreover, assuming the CAMX processes at an operating frequency of 0.1, 0.5, 1.0, or 1.5 GHz, it can process floating‐point additions above approximately 4500 parallelized data, with better performance than an ARM core using NEON and Vector Floating‐Point (VFP). In addition, related works executed by software instruction, dedicated floating‐point arithmetic unit, or both and the CAMX are compared while assuming the same operation frequency. From this result, the CAMX which has 128‐bit and 1024‐entry CAM modules achieves higher performance than the related works executed by only software instructions and by combining software instructions and a dedicated floating‐point arithmetic unit. © 2023 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. This paper presents an evolutional topology optimization of electric machines, which works like gradient‐based local search methods, based on the covariance matrix adaptation evolution strategy (CMA‐ES). The present method enables to improve the performance of initial machine shapes without computing the deviation of the objectives. Moreover, for the resultant shapes obtained by the present topology optimization method, this paper also presents a sensitivity analysis method based on the normal distribution which is used to seek for solutions in CMA‐ES. Using the present sensitivity analysis method, important parts which contribute to improve a machine characteristic can be visualized. The two present methods are applied to the optimization problem of a synchronous reluctance motor. It is shown that initial rotor shapes defined by designers can effectively be modified using the present optimization method. Moreover, it is also shown that the sensitivity distributions with respect to some machine characteristics are visualized by the present method. In recent years, the object‐tracking algorithm based on Siamese network has gradually become the mainstream algorithm in the field of object tracking due to its characteristics of balancing speed and accuracy. The majority of Siamese‐based trackers only use the first frame extraction template for subsequent tracking in order to prevent the introduction of noise. However, merely with a single initial template employed, it is difficult to achieve the best performance of the tracker in the face of complex tracking environments such as occlusion, motion blur, and non‐rigid deformation. Therefore, the present paper proposes a new multi‐template fusion module based on graph attention network (G‐M module), which consists of two parts: a graph‐attention‐network‐based feature‐embedding module (G module) and a multi‐template fusion module (M module). It can greatly reduce the background noise introduced by template updating while improving the tracker's ability to adapt to changes in object appearance. In addition, in order to maximize the value of G‐M module, the present paper also puts forward a two‐stage template update threshold judgment mechanism. The Pearson correlation coefficient (PCCs) is introduced and combined with APCE and the maximum response value (F‐max) to filter out reliable templates for updating. In this paper, the proposed method is applied to the SiamFC and SiamFC++ trackers. Extensive experiments on mainstream data sets, such as OTB2015, VOT2016, and GOT‐10 k, show that the proposed method can effectively update the tracking template and improve the tracker performance. © 2022 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. This paper evaluates the driving forces of urban shrinkage, focusing on transportation infrastructure using a conceptual framework. Employing a difference‐in‐difference approach, this study explores the impact of the high‐speed railway on local shrinkage by focusing on implementing the bullet train in the Kyushu Shinkansen region of Japan. Our results show that after the introduction of the bullet train line, remote peripheral regions suffered population loss while suburban areas near the metropolitan area experienced population growth. Further analysis verifies that the bullet train had a particularly significant negative impact on local employment and establishments in the service sector in remote regions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Morita therapy is one of the leading alternative psychotherapeutic approaches that has emerged from Japan and has adapted with notable success to the mores and demands of the Western medical establishment. Although still on the margin, Morita therapy has the potential to offer a viable option for those who seek therapeutic assistance for various neuroses and psychosomatic illnesses that culminate in psychiatric symptoms such as generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive‐compulsive disorder, or posttraumatic stress disorder. Diverging considerably from conventional Western psychiatric approaches, Morita therapy has its own modes of conceiving mental illness and offers distinct curative methods that are in some ways akin to the techniques of meaning‐centred psychotherapies, but in many other ways are rather different. In this paper, the meaning‐formation and the building of a constant sense of purpose in Morita therapy is explored, with a special focus on how these relate to creating a stable psychological framework for the client. In this paper, investigation has been made on the electrical properties of graphene/Al contact, ZnO/Al contact and Al/graphene/ZnO contacts in detail. Al metallization is considered, and it is performed via thermal vacuum coating technique under strict monitoring of the rate of thickness of the metal. Spin coating method and shadow masking are done for depositing fabricated graphene and ZnO on the thin film. Comparative analysis has been made on the parameters like saturation current, Barrier height and ideality factors which are calculated using Schottky barrier height (SBH) method. I–V characteristics are analyzed using the key‐sight B2029A semiconductor parameter analyzer. It is seen that the ZnO/Al contact has more ideality factor nearly 0.059 and exhibits Schottky behavior. In orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) systems, carrier frequency offsets (CFOs) influence the different users. In this paper, we proposed a CFO estimation algorithm with strong interference resistant capability for OFDMA systems. The first part of the proposed algorithm processes the received signals so as to deal with the CFO estimation problem. And the second part of the proposed algorithm is to use the proposed adaptive process to obtain the updated CFO estimation and track the parameters' time‐variations. This paper investigates the influence of the loss distribution and magnetic saturation on the efficiency performance, which includes the location of maximum efficiency point, the size of high‐efficiency region and the value of maximum efficiency, for an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM). The loss expressions considering magnetic saturation are first proposed and then the efficiency‐losses function model of the IPMSM is constructed. The efficiency performance of the motor is analyzed quantitatively. The general principle is summarized including adjusting the location of maximum efficiency point, expanding the size of high‐efficiency zone and improving the maximum value of efficiency from the perspective of loss distribution and magnetic saturation. Two IPMSMs with different magnetic circuit characteristics are designed to verify the correctness of the analytical method by finite‐element analysis (FEA). In order to reduce the clock offset caused by network delay jitter, network asymmetry, clock drift and clock frequency difference in the clock synchronization process of IEEE1588, a modified Strong Tracking Adaptive Kalman Filter (MSTAKF) algorithm was proposed. The Kalman filter model established by the algorithm is based on clock offset, network delay, frequency deviation and asymmetry ratio. The filter includes the modified strong tracking algorithm based on fuzzy logic and hypothesis test proposed in this paper, which can effectively eliminate the influence of outliers, and finally make the model tracking effect better. In addition, the modified Sage‐Husa algorithm based on Cholesky decomposition is also included, which makes the measurement noise more stable and ensures the positivity of the measurement noise covariance. The experimental results show that the proposed MSTAKF is smoother than Karman filter (KF), Sage‐Husa adaptive Kalman filter (AKF) and strong tracking Sage‐Husa adaptive Kalman filter (STAKF). Train real‐time ethernet network (TREN) is responsible for the transmission of train control commands and equipment status information. Due to the harsh and changeable climatic environments, complex electromagnetic environments, and long service, the TREN has a high incidence of physical layer failures, which affects train operation safety. This paper presents a novel fault diagnosis method in which waveform electrical signal features are extracted from the physical layer signal of TREN. Random forest is used for identifying typical failure modes of actual TREN, and the model parameters are optimized to improve diagnostic performance. Finally, the physical layer signals of actual TREN are collected. Elementary functions are widely integrated in many embedded applications such as speech recognition and signal processing. This paper deals with the issues related to the hardware implementation of those functions. Indeed, a novel efficient Error‐Margin aware Approach for non‐uniform Segmentation of Elementary Functions using degree‐N Polynomial Approximation (EMASEF‐NPA) has been proposed. The bit‐width optimization (BWO) process has been used to obtain a better representation of the approximation polynomial coefficients. The principle of content‐addressable memory (CAM) and Horner's rules have been used in the physical implementation. Functional verification, logical synthesis, and physical implementation were performed using the FPGA platform. The results obtained using EMASEF‐NPA approach show a significant reduction, up to 70%, in the number of segments compared to conventional approaches. Accurately predicting wind power is premise for the large‐scale integration of wind energy into the power grid and realizing reliable power grid scheduling and efficient wind farm operation. The spatial–temporal differences between the acquisition points of numerical weather prediction and wind farm sites should be considered because they significantly affect the accuracy of wind power output. Meanwhile, since there are different actual constraints on wind farm electrical networks and units, and the weather conditions may vary, there are no universal methods for identifying and correcting wind power output. To this end, this paper proposes a wind speed calibration model based on an Attention‐Bi‐LSTM network and a self‐adaptive recognition‐correction model based on SHAP‐CART classification for wind power output prediction. First, a spatial–temporal dataset is established by using real weather data from wind farm sites and data from the surrounding NWP points. Then, wind speed is accurately calibrated using the Attention‐Bi‐LSTM model. Next, considering the practical constraints on wind farm electrical networks and units, the self‐adaptive recognition‐correction model based on SHAP‐CART classification is employed to effectively recognize and predict the operating states and power output of the units, thus improving the accuracy and stability of wind power output prediction. The integration of vast quantities of clean energy causes intense impact on the power grid reliability. Digital Twin can be used to handle the high‐growth data flow generated in the power grid, and thus accelerate its digitalization process to fulfill the clean energy consumption target. As the traditional central cloud network structure can no longer effectively support the operation of digital twin power grid, the mobile edge network can be used as a reasonable substitute. To support the information interaction process of the mobile edge network, considering total profit, time delay and energy consumption, this paper proposes the mobile edge network communication and computing resource joint allocation model. On the basis, the GA‐PSO algorithm is proposed to solve the resource allocation optimization function. Pedestrians are essential component in traffic, and with the advent of intelligent transportation systems, conflicts over right‐of‐way between pedestrians and other traffic participants have become prevalent. Predicting pedestrian intentions and motions is crucial for autonomous driving and intelligent transportation. However, pedestrian prediction faces challenges such as the variability of pedestrian intentions and the flexibility of their motions, as well as the need for highly generalization capability and lightweight modeling on autonomous vehicles with limited computing power. To face these challenge, this paper proposes a Social Artificial Potential Field (Social‐APF) method for pedestrian trajectory prediction. The method combines target intention feature and surrounding obstacles features. We test the performance of Social‐APF on several public datasets. Off‐line partial discharge (PD) diagnosis, which requires an additional power supply has been accepted as an essential step in ensuring the integrity of power cable systems during commissioning testing. Many types of energizing voltage sources (e.g., alternating current resonance, damped alternating current, very low frequency [VLF] sine, and VLF‐cosine rectangular) have been developed, which are used in practice. However, choosing the optimal energizing voltage waveforms for PD testing is still controversial because their capability to motivate PD activities is still unclear. Accordingly, this paper compares the PD ignition capacity of the aforementioned power sources on six well‐designed PD defects in real cable joints. The influence of test voltage frequencies and waveforms are verified. The results show that the PD inception voltage and PD magnitudes in the cable joint defects do not change significantly as a function of the sinusoidal voltage frequency and the VLF‐cosine rectangular voltage exhibits excellent PD ignition capability with a low PD inception voltage and large PD magnitude. The vegetable‐insulating oils are used in electrical systems recently. Most of vegetable‐insulating oils are manufactured from new oils. In this paper, we propose to develop the insulating oils from the used cooking oil. The used cooking oils that means thermal degraded—vegetable oil has high kinematic viscosity that does not meet the JIS values. In this study, the kinematic viscosity of thermal degraded oil was decreased using ester exchange reaction. We simulated the thermally‐degraded rice ester oil as used cooking oil, and investigated the potential of used cooking oil as insulating oil. We manufactured rice ester oil after thermal degradation before and after the ester‐exchange reaction and measure kinematic viscosity, AC breakdown voltage, moisture amount and volume resistivity for oil samples. We evaluated the degree of thermal degradation of the sample oil using total polar molecule (TPM). The results are described as follows. (1) The kinematic viscosity and volume resistivity of the rice oil increased with the thermal degradation progress (increase in TPM). The kinematic viscosity of the rice ester oil at each TPM value decreased after the ester‐exchange reaction. (2) After vacuum deaeration (2 h at 80°C and 22 h at room temperature), the moisture content of the rice oil before and after the ester‐exchange reaction was almost the same. Aims: Hikikomori is a common phenomenon reported in Japan and many other countries. However, the broad trends of the research publications on hikikomori are unclear. Therefore, this study examined the patterns of research on hikikomori using bibliometric analysis. Methods: Relevant publications were searched in Web of Science. Bibliometric analyses were performed with CiteSpace, R and VOSviewer. Results: In total, 297 publications on hikikomori met the eligibility criteria. The International Journal of Social Psychiatry (IF = 10.461) published the most papers (K = 17, or 5.7%) on hikikomori. Takahiro A. Kato from Kyushu University (41; 13.8%; H‐index = 18) was the most influential author, while Takahiro A. Kato (total link strength [TLS]: 235), Alan R. Teo (TLS: 157), and Masaru Tateno (TLS: 153) separately had the strongest research collaboration with other researchers. Of all countries that published on hikikomori, Japan had the highest number of publications (K = 91). The keywords "United States" and "psychiatric diagnosis" received the most attention between 2013 and 2015, whereas "health" and "autism spectrum disorder" received the most attention in 2021 and 2022. In electromagnetic launcher, the pulsed current is concentrated by contact state, current skin effect (CSE) and velocity skin effect (VSE), and heat the material locally. It will lead to melt or degradation, reducing stability and service life of the launcher. In order to study the current distribution with all these various influences, a 3D transient current analysis model with dynamic conductivity assignment and contact layer is proposed in this paper. It is found that the short contact length in armature moving direction can make two peaks overlap caused by CSE and VSE, and VSE can disturb the current distribution in horizontal direction. When designing armatures, it is recommended that the contact length in the moving direction should be long enough during the entire launch process, so to isolate the two peaks, and that the central length of the armature tail should be longer than the lateral length, so to prevent the current from concentrating more at the lateral edge. In order to improve the dynamic and steady‐state performance of the finite control set model predictive torque controlled surface‐mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor drive system, a novel finite control set model predictive torque control (FCS‐MPTC) with different dynamic and steady‐state control schemes is proposed in this paper. When the SMPMSM drive system operates at transient state, the optimal basic voltage vector of inverter is the vector that minimizes torque tracking error, the proposed FCS‐MPTC achieves fast dynamic response based on the optimal torque control. When the system operates at steady state, the relative importance of torque to the stator flux amplitude is calculated based on the quantitative analysis of minimum staggered errors between motor torque and stator flux amplitude control objectives, then the priority weighting factors based on the relative importance are determined online adaptively, the optimal control of motor torque and stator flux amplitude is achieved simultaneously. Finally, the comparison of the experimental results of proposed FCS‐MPTC with different control methods is implemented and research conclusion is shown. © 2023 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. With increasing attention to the secondary use of data, privacy protection laws such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) have come into force to protect residents from unauthorized exploitation of personal data. Flow management is an effective method to track the distribution of user data in a multi‐domain network environment. Transparency in the relationship between data and service providers is essential to track the status of data provision. Vendor and Consumer Relationship Management (VCRM) manages this relationship by regulating relevant flow information. VCRM is expected to collaborate with the edge‐computing environment in the management of regional unit flow, wherein all access to personal user data should be restricted in accordance with the stakeholders' requests. Accordingly, this study proposes a packet processing function that collaborates with VCRM to manage the access control of flows passing through a regional network. Moreover, this paper proposes methods to reduce packet processing time on the switch, and requests to the switch controller. Using tag‐based matching and cache injection methods, the number of requests to the controller decreased to 33.4% of the original figure. Linear phase shifting transformer is a new type of phase shifting transformer with the advantages of simple winding structure, easy modularity, and the ability to shift phase at any angle. In order to improve the efficiency and power factor of linear phase shift transformer and reduce the weight of the body, based on the equivalent circuit, this paper first, selects the main design parameters of the linear phase shift transformer model as the optimization object, secondly, selects the constraints and objective function applicable to this model, and then, establishes the linear phase shift transformer optimization design model. Finally, a differential evolutionary algorithm with strong global search performance is used to optimize the design parameters. Taking the 1 kW linear phase shifting transformer as an example, the efficiency, power factor, and weight before and after optimization are compared using finite element simulation to verify the effectiveness of the proposed optimization method. The traditional 25KV electric railways have various problems such as power quality issues, passing neutral sections, complex storage, and utilization of regenerative braking energy, the medium‐voltage direct current (MVDC) traction power supply system (TPSS) may be a potential alternative electric railway mode and can be freely accessed to the renewable energy and energy storage systems, which is an important development direction of the future low‐carbon RES. This paper first describes the structure and characteristics of the current Railway Electrification System (RES), and then analyzes and summarizes the current research status of the MVDC TPSS topology structure, modeling method, stability criterion, and analysis method and coordination control strategy. Nowadays, the optical voltage sensor (OVS) has become the best practical solution for the high voltage measurement in modern smart grid. And the polarization of the incident light greatly influences the sensor's measurement accuracy. In this paper, taking the radial polarization optical voltage sensor (RPOVS) as an example, its practical optical model is established by using the theory of polarized optics. The formula of the measurement relative error is obtained, and the influences of the ellipticity and extinction ratio on sensor performance are analyzed in detail. Then the suggestions are given and verified by simulations and experiments, which show the measurement error brought by the polarizer parameters to RPOVS is reduced by about 0.2%, promoting the sensor's realization of 0.2 accuracy class from the aspect of optical path.
