Brain stroke, or a cerebrovascular accident, is a devastating medical condition that disrupts the blood supply to the brain, depriving it of oxygen and nutrients. Each year, according to the World Health Organization, 15 million people worldwide experience a stroke. This results in approximately 5 million deaths and another 5 million individuals suffering permanent disabilities. The complex interplay of various risk factors highlights the urgent need for sophisticated analytical methods to more accurately predict stroke risks and manage their outcomes. Machine learning and deep learning technologies offer promising solutions by analyzing extensive datasets including patient demographics, health records, and lifestyle choices to uncover patterns and predictors not easily discernible by humans. These technologies enable advanced data processing, analysis, and fusion techniques for a comprehensive health assessment. We conducted a comprehensive review of 25 review papers published between 2020 and 2024 on machine learning and deep learning applications in brain stroke diagnosis, focusing on classification, segmentation, and object detection. Furthermore, all these reviews explore the performance evaluation and validation of advanced sensor systems in these areas, enhancing predictive health monitoring and personalized care recommendations. Moreover, we also provide a collection of the most relevant datasets used in brain stroke analysis. The selection of the papers was conducted according to PRISMA guidelines. The preliminary sorting of plastic products is a necessary step to improve the utilization of waste resources. To improve the quality and efficiency of sorting, a plastic detection scheme based on deep learning is proposed in this paper for a waste plastics sorting system based on vision detection. In this scheme, the YOLOX (You Only Look Once) object detection model and the DeepSORT (Deep Simple Online and Realtime Tracking) multiple object tracking algorithm are improved and combined to make them more suitable for plastic sorting. For plastic detection, multiple data augmentations are combined to improve the detection effect, while BN (Batch Normalization) layer fusion and mixed precision inference are adopted to accelerate the model. For plastic tracking, the improved YOLOX is used as a detector, and the tracking effect is further improved by optimizing the deep cosine metric learning and the metric in the matching stage. Based on this, virtual detection lines are set up to filter and extract information to determine the sorted objects. The experimental results show that the scheme proposed in this paper makes full use of vision information to achieve dynamic and real-time detection of plastics. Target detection algorithms can greatly improve the efficiency of tomato leaf disease detection and play an important technical role in intelligent tomato cultivation. However, there are some challenges in the detection process, such as the diversity of complex backgrounds and the loss of leaf symmetry due to leaf shadowing, and existing disease detection methods have some disadvantages in terms of deteriorating generalization ability and insufficient accuracy. Aiming at the above issues, a target detection model for tomato leaf disease based on deep learning with a global attention mechanism, TDGA, is proposed in this paper. The main idea of TDGA includes three aspects. Firstly, TDGA adds a global attention mechanism (GAM) after up-sampling and down-sampling, as well as in the SPPF module, to improve the feature extraction ability of the target object, effectively reducing the interference of invalid targets. Secondly, TDGA uses a switchable atrous convolution (SAConv) in the C3 module to improve the model's ability to detect. Thirdly, TDGA adopts the efficient IoU loss (EIoU) instead of complete IoU loss (CIoU) to solve the ambiguous definition of aspect ratio and sample imbalance. In addition, the influences of different environmental factors such as single leaf, multiple leaves, and shadows on the performance of tomato disease detection are extensively experimented with and analyzed in this paper, which also verified the robustness of TDGA. The experimental results show that the average accuracy of TDGA reaches 91.40%, which is 2.93% higher than that of the original YOLOv5 network, which is higher than YOLOv5, YOLOv7, YOLOHC, YOLOv8, SSD, Faster R-CNN, RetinaNet and other target detection networks, so that TDGA can be utilized for the detection of tomato leaf disease more efficiently and accurately, even in complex environments. Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-based object detection methods are widely used in traffic detection due to their high flexibility and extensive coverage. In recent years, with the increasing complexity of the urban road environment, UAV object detection algorithms based on deep learning have gradually become a research hotspot. However, how to further improve algorithmic efficiency in response to the numerous and rapidly changing road elements, and thus achieve high-speed and accurate road object detection, remains a challenging issue. Given this context, this paper proposes the high-efficiency multi-object detection algorithm for UAVs (HeMoDU). HeMoDU reconstructs a state-of-the-art, deep-learning-based object detection model and optimizes several aspects to improve computational efficiency and detection accuracy. To validate the performance of HeMoDU in urban road environments, this paper uses the public urban road datasets VisDrone2019 and UA-DETRAC for evaluation. Simple Summary: In the sorting process of Chinese softshell turtles, it is necessary to classify them based on their weight and accurately identify their plastron and carapace. This process requires heavy manual labor and complex mechanical processing methods. To improve processing efficiency and reduce costs, this article introduces machine vision technology, and a new image processing method is proposed. This method can estimate the weight of Chinese softshell turtles and accurately locate the positions of their plastron and carapace. The automation level of aquaculture can be greatly enhanced, and hardware costs can be reduced through software optimization through this approach. With the rapid development of the turtle breeding industry in China, the demand for automated turtle sorting is increasing. The automatic sorting of Chinese softshell turtles mainly consists of three parts: visual recognition, weight prediction, and individual sorting. This paper focuses on two aspects, i.e., visual recognition and weight prediction, and a novel method for the object detection and weight prediction of Chinese softshell turtles is proposed. In the individual sorting process, computer vision technology is used to estimate the weight of Chinese softshell turtles and classify them by weight. For the visual recognition of the body parts of Chinese softshell turtles, a color space model is proposed in this paper to separate the turtles from the background effectively. By applying multiple linear regression analysis for modeling, the relationship between the weight and morphological parameters of Chinese softshell turtles is obtained, which can be used to estimate the weight of turtles well. An improved deep learning object detection network is used to extract the features of the plastron and carapace of the Chinese softshell turtles, achieving excellent detection results. Blueberries have high nutritional and economic value and are easy to cultivate, so they are common fruit crops in China. There is a high demand for blueberry in domestic and foreign markets, and various technologies have been used to extend the supply cycle of blueberry to about 7 months. However, blueberry grows in clusters, and a cluster of fruits generally contains fruits of different degrees of maturity, which leads to low efficiency in manually picking mature fruits, and at the same time wastes a lot of manpower and material resources. Therefore, in order to improve picking efficiency, it is necessary to adopt an automated harvesting mode. However, an accurate maturity detection model can provide a prerequisite for automated harvesting technology. Therefore, this paper proposes a blueberry ripeness detection model based on enhanced detail feature and content-aware reassembly. First of all, this paper designs an EDFM (Enhanced Detail Feature Module) that improves the ability of detail feature extraction so that the model focuses on important features such as blueberry color and texture, which improves the model's ability to extract blueberry features. Second, by adding the RFB (Receptive Field Block) module to the model, the lack of the model in terms of receptive field can be improved, and the calculation amount of the model can be reduced at the same time. Then, by using the Space-to-depth operation to redesign the MP (MaxPool) module, a new MP-S (MaxPool–Space to depth) module is obtained, which can effectively learn more feature information. Finally, an efficient upsampling method, the CARAFE (Content-Aware Reassembly of Features) module, is used, which can aggregate contextual information within a larger receptive field to improve the detection performance of the model. In order to verify the effectiveness of the method proposed in this paper, experiments were carried out on the self-made dataset "Blueberry—Five Datasets" which consists of data on five different maturity levels of blueberry with a total of 10,000 images. Experimental results show that the mAP (mean average precision) of the proposed network reaches 80.7%, which is 3.2% higher than that of the original network, and has better performance than other existing target detection network models. Efficient document recognition and sharing remain challenges in the healthcare, insurance, and finance sectors. One solution to this problem has been the use of deep learning techniques to automatically extract structured information from paper documents. Specifically, the structured extraction of a medical examination report (MER) can enhance medical efficiency, data analysis, and scientific research. While current methods focus on reconstructing table bodies, they often overlook table headers, leading to incomplete information extraction. This paper proposes MSIE-Net (multi-stage-structured information extraction network), a novel structured information extraction method, leveraging refined attention transformers and associated entity detection to enhance comprehensive MER information retrieval. MSIE-Net includes three stages. First, the RVI-LayoutXLM (refined visual-feature independent LayoutXLM) targets key information extraction. In this stage, the refined attention accentuates the interaction between different modalities by adjusting the attention score at the current position using previous position information. This design enables the RVI-LayoutXLM to learn more specific contextual information to improve extraction performance. Next, the associated entity detection module, RIFD-Net (relevant intra-layer fine-tuned detection network), identifies each test item's location within the MER table body. Significantly, the backbone of RIFD-Net incorporates the intra-layer feature adjustment module (IFAM) to extract global features while homing in on local areas, proving especially sensitive for inspection tasks with dense and long bins. Finally, structured post-processing based on coordinate aggregation links the outputs from the prior stages. For the evaluation, we constructed the Chinese medical examination report dataset (CMERD), based on real medical scenarios. MSIE-Net demonstrated competitive performance in tasks involving key information extraction and associated entity detection. Object detection is one of the fundamental tasks in computer vision, holding immense significance in the realm of intelligent mobile scenes. This paper proposes a hybrid cross-feature interaction (HCFI) attention module for object detection in intelligent mobile scenes. Firstly, the paper introduces multiple kernel (MK) spatial pyramid pooling (SPP) based on SPP and improves the channel attention using its structure. This results in a hybrid cross-channel interaction (HCCI) attention module with better cross-channel interaction performance. Additionally, we bolster spatial attention by incorporating dilated convolutions, leading to the creation of the cross-spatial interaction (CSI) attention module with superior cross-spatial interaction performance. By seamlessly combining the above two modules, we achieve an improved HCFI attention module without resorting to computationally expensive operations. Through a series of experiments involving various detectors and datasets, our proposed method consistently demonstrates superior performance. This results in a performance improvement of 1.53% for YOLOX on COCO and a performance boost of 2.05% for YOLOv5 on BDD100K. Furthermore, we propose a solution that combines HCCI and HCFI to address the challenge of extremely small output feature layers in detectors, such as SSD. Endangered species detection plays an important role in biodiversity conservation and is significant in maintaining ecological balance. Existing deep learning-based object detection methods are overly dependent on a large number of supervised samples, and building such endangered species datasets is usually costly. Aiming at the problems faced by endangered species detection, such as low accuracy and easy loss of location information, an efficient endangered species detection method with fewer samples is proposed to extend the few-shot object detection technique to the field of endangered species detection, which requires only a small number of training samples to obtain excellent detection results. First, SE-Res2Net is proposed to optimize the feature extraction capability. Secondly, an RPN network with multiple attention mechanism is proposed. Finally, for the classification confusion problem, a weighted prototype-based comparison branch is introduced to construct weighted category prototype vectors, which effectively improves the performance of the original classifier. Under the setting of 30 samples in the endangered species dataset, the average detection accuracy value of the method, mAP50, reaches 76.54%, which is 7.98% higher than that of the pre-improved FSCE method. In the realm of autonomous vehicle technology, the multimodal vehicle detection network (MVDNet) represents a significant leap forward, particularly in the challenging context of weather conditions. This paper focuses on the enhancement of MVDNet through the integration of a multi-head attention layer, aimed at refining its performance. The integrated multi-head attention layer in the MVDNet model is a pivotal modification, advancing the network's ability to process and fuse multimodal sensor information more efficiently. The paper validates the improved performance of MVDNet with multi-head attention through comprehensive testing, which includes a training dataset derived from the Oxford Radar RobotCar. The detection of objects on water surfaces is a pivotal technology for the perceptual systems of unmanned surface vehicles (USVs). This paper proposes a novel real-time target detection system designed to address the challenges posed by indistinct bottom boundaries and foggy imagery. Our method enhances the YOLOv8s model by incorporating the convolutional block attention module (CBAM) and a self-attention mechanism, examining their impact at various integration points. A dynamic sample assignment strategy was introduced to enhance the precision of our model and accelerate its convergence. To address the challenge of delineating bottom boundaries with clarity, our model employs a two-strategy approach: a threshold filter and a feedforward neural network (FFN) that provides targeted guidance for refining these boundaries. Our model demonstrated exceptional performance, achieving a mean average precision (mAP) of 47.1% on the water surface object dataset, which represents a 1.7% increase over the baseline YOLOv8 model. The dynamic sample assignment strategy contributes a 1.0% improvement on average precision at the intersection over union (IoU) threshold of 0.5 (AP0.5), while the FFN strategy fine-tunes the bottom boundaries and achieves an additional 0.8% improvement in average precision at IoU threshold of 0.75 (AP0.75). Intelligent gangue sorting with high precision is of vital importance for improving coal quality. To tackle the challenges associated with coal gangue target detection, including algorithm performance imbalance and hardware deployment difficulties, in this paper, an intelligent gangue separation system that adopts the elevated YOLO-v5 algorithm and dual-energy X-rays is proposed. Firstly, images of dual-energy X-ray transmission coal gangue mixture under the actual operation of a coal mine were collected, and datasets for training and validation were self-constructed. Then, in the YOLOv5 backbone network, the EfficientNetv2 was used to replace the original cross stage partial darknet (CSPDarknet) to achieve the lightweight of the backbone network; in the neck, a light path aggregation network (LPAN) was designed based on PAN, and a convolutional block attention module (CBAM) was integrated into the BottleneckCSP of the feature fusion block to raise the feature acquisition capability of the network and maximize the learning effect. Subsequently, to accelerate the rate of convergence, an efficient intersection over union (EIOU) was used instead of the complete intersection over union (CIOU) loss function. Finally, to address the problem of low resolution of small targets leading to missed detection, an L2 detection head was introduced to the head section to improve the multi-scale target detection performance of the algorithm. The experimental results indicate that in comparison with YOLOv5-S, the same version of the algorithm proposed in this paper increases by 19.2% and 32.4% on mAP @.5 and mAP @.5:.95, respectively. The number of parameters decline by 51.5%, and the calculation complexity declines by 14.7%. As cloud computing rises in popularity across diverse industries, the necessity to compare and select the most appropriate cloud provider for specific use cases becomes imperative. This research conducts an in-depth comparative analysis of two prominent cloud platforms, Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS), with a specific focus on their suitability for deploying object-detection algorithms. The analysis covers both quantitative metrics—encompassing upload and download times, throughput, and inference time—and qualitative assessments like cost effectiveness, machine learning resource availability, deployment ease, and service-level agreement (SLA). Through the deployment of the YOLOv8 object-detection model, this study measures these metrics on both platforms, providing empirical evidence for platform evaluation. Furthermore, this research examines general platform availability and information accessibility to highlight differences in qualitative aspects. This paper concludes that Azure excels in download time (average 0.49 s/MB), inference time (average 0.60 s/MB), and throughput (1145.78 MB/s), and AWS excels in upload time (average 1.84 s/MB), cost effectiveness, ease of deployment, a wider ML service catalog, and superior SLA. However, the decision between either platform is based on the importance of their performance based on business-specific requirements. With the rapid development of deep learning, more and more complex models are applied to 3D point cloud object detection to improve accuracy. In general, the more complex the model, the better the performance and the greater the computational resource consumption it has. However, complex models are incompatible for deployment on edge devices with restricted memory, so accurate and efficient 3D point cloud object detection processing is necessary. Recently, a lightweight model design has been proposed as one type of effective model compression that aims to design more efficient network computing methods. In this paper, a lightweight 3D point cloud object detection network architecture is proposed. The core innovation of the proposal consists of a lightweight 3D sparse convolution layer module (LW-Sconv module) and knowledge distillation loss. Firstly, in the LW-Sconv module, factorized convolution and group convolution are applied to the standard 3D sparse convolution layer. As the basic component of the lightweight 3D point cloud object detection network proposed in this paper, the LW-Sconv module greatly reduces the complexity of the network. Then, the knowledge distillation loss is used to guide the training of the lightweight network proposed in this paper to further improve the detection accuracy. Finally, extensive experiments are performed to verify the algorithm proposed in this paper. Compared with the baseline model, the proposed model can reduce the FLOPs and parameters by 3.7 times and 7.9 times, respectively. The lightweight model trained with knowledge distillation loss achieves comparable accuracy to the baseline. A rich and effective dataset is an important foundation for the development of AI algorithms, and the quantity and quality of the dataset determine the upper limit level of the algorithms. For aerospace remote sensing datasets, due to the high cost of data collection and susceptibility to meteorological and airway conditions, the existing datasets have two problems: firstly, the number of datasets is obviously insufficient, and, secondly, there is large unevenness between different categories in datasets. One of the effective solutions is to use neural networks to generate fake data by learning from real data, but existing methods still find difficulty in generating remote sensing sample images with good texture detail and geometric distortion. To address the shortcomings of existing image generation algorithms, this paper proposes a gradient structure information-guided attention generative adversarial network (SGA-GAN) for remote sensing image generation, which contains two innovative initiatives: on the one hand, a learnable gradient structure information extraction branch network can be added to the generator network to obtain complex structural information in the sample image, thus alleviating the distortion of the sample geometric structure in remote sensing image generation; on the other hand, a multidimensional self-attention feature selection module is proposed to further improve the quality of the generated remote sensing images by connecting cross-attentive modules as well as spatial and channel attention modules in series to guide the generator to better utilize global information. The algorithm proposed in this paper outperformed other methods, such as StyleGAN-XL and FastGAN, in both the qualitative and quantitative evaluation, whereby the FID on the DOTA dataset decreased by 23.927 and the IS was improved by 2.351. The comparison experiments show that the method proposed in this paper can generate more realistic sample images, and images generated by this method can improve object detection metrics by increasing the number of single-category datasets and the number of targets in fewer categories in multi-category datasets, which means it can be effectively used in the field of intelligent processing of remote sensing images. The cooperative, connected, and automated mobility (CCAM) infrastructure plays a key role in understanding and enhancing the environmental perception of autonomous vehicles (AVs) driving in complex urban settings. However, the deployment of CCAM infrastructure necessitates the efficient selection of the computational processing layer and deployment of machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) models to achieve greater performance of AVs in complex urban environments. In this paper, we propose a computational framework and analyze the effectiveness of a custom-trained DL model (YOLOv8) when deployed in diverse devices and settings at the vehicle-edge-cloud-layered architecture. Our main focus is to understand the interplay and relationship between the DL model's accuracy and execution time during deployment at the layered framework. Therefore, we investigate the trade-offs between accuracy and time by the deployment process of the YOLOv8 model over each layer of the computational framework. We consider the CCAM infrastructures, i.e., sensory devices, computation, and communication at each layer. The findings reveal that the performance metrics results (e.g., 0.842 mAP@0.5) of deployed DL models remain consistent regardless of the device type across any layer of the framework. However, we observe that inference times for object detection tasks tend to decrease when the DL model is subjected to different environmental conditions. For instance, the Jetson AGX (non-GPU) outperforms the Raspberry Pi (non-GPU) by reducing inference time by 72%, whereas the Jetson AGX Xavier (GPU) outperforms the Jetson AGX ARMv8 (non-GPU) by reducing inference time by 90%. With the development of artificial intelligence, the intelligence of agriculture has become a trend. Intelligent monitoring of agricultural activities is an important part of it. However, due to difficulties in achieving a balance between quality and cost, the goal of improving the economic benefits of agricultural activities has not reached the expected level. Farm supervision requires intensive human effort and may not produce satisfactory results. In order to achieve intelligent monitoring of agricultural activities and improve economic benefits, this paper proposes a solution that combines unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) with deep learning models. The proposed solution aims to detect and classify objects using UAVs in the agricultural industry, thereby achieving independent agriculture without human intervention. To achieve this, a highly reliable target detection and tracking system is developed using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. The use of deep learning methods allows the system to effectively solve the target detection and tracking problem. The model utilizes data collected from DJI Mirage 4 unmanned aerial vehicles to detect, track, and classify different types of targets. Enhancing the environmental perception of autonomous vehicles (AVs) in intelligent transportation systems requires computer vision technology to be effective in detecting objects and obstacles, particularly in adverse weather conditions. Adverse weather circumstances present serious difficulties for object-detecting systems, which are essential to contemporary safety procedures, infrastructure for monitoring, and intelligent transportation. AVs primarily depend on image processing algorithms that utilize a wide range of onboard visual sensors for guidance and decisionmaking. Ensuring the consistent identification of critical elements such as vehicles, pedestrians, and road lanes, even in adverse weather, is a paramount objective. This paper not only provides a comprehensive review of the literature on object detection (OD) under adverse weather conditions but also delves into the ever-evolving realm of the architecture of AVs, challenges for automated vehicles in adverse weather, the basic structure of OD, and explores the landscape of traditional and deep learning (DL) approaches for OD within the realm of AVs. These approaches are essential for advancing the capabilities of AVs in recognizing and responding to objects in their surroundings. This paper further investigates previous research that has employed both traditional and DL methodologies for the detection of vehicles, pedestrians, and road lanes, effectively linking these approaches with the evolving field of AVs. In substation lightning rod meter reading data taking, the classical object detection model is not suitable for deployment in substation monitoring hardware devices due to its large size, large number of parameters, and slow detection speed, while is difficult to balance detection accuracy and real-time requirements with the existing lightweight object detection model. To address this problem, this paper constructs a lightweight object detection algorithm, YOLOv5-Meter Reading Lighting (YOLOv5-MRL), based on the improved YOLOv5 model's speed while maintaining accuracy. Then, the YOLOv5s are pruned based on the convolutional kernel channel soft pruning algorithm, which greatly reduces the number of parameters in the YOLOv5-MRL model while maintaining a certain accuracy loss. This paper proposes an enhanced YOLO v7-based method for detecting insulator defects in transmission lines, addressing the challenges of low accuracy and high leakage rates caused by complex backgrounds and electric poles alongside varying sizes of insulator targets in the image. Firstly, to address the issue of background interference and improve the importance of insulator features, a lightweight attention mechanism named Efficient Channel Attention (ECA) was introduced. With the incorporation of ECA, this model could effectively suppress background noise and provide more focus to insulator regions, thus enhancing its ability to detect insulator defects accurately. Secondly, a partial convolution (PConv) approach was employed in the backbone network instead of conventional convolution, which learned some important channels. This substitution improved both the network model's accuracy and the training speed. Finally, the Normalized Wasserstein Distance (NWD) prevented insulator features from being lost during pre-feature extraction, which reduced the leakage rate and improved the detection accuracy of small target insulators and defective insulators. The experimental results demonstrate that the improved YOLO v7 network model achieved an average detection accuracy (mAP) of 98.1%, recall of 93.7%, and precision of 96.8% on the TISLTR dataset. On the FISLTR dataset, the average detection accuracy (mAP) for flashover insulators was 93%, with a recall of 92.3% and precision of 87.1%. Finally, the GAM attention mechanism is introduced in the neck to enhance the model's fusion of target features and improve the model's overall performance in detecting UAVs. The plum is a kind of delicious and common fruit with high edible value and nutritional value. The accurate and effective detection of plum fruit is the key to fruit number counting and pest and disease early warning. However, the actual plum orchard environment is complex, and the detection of plum fruits has many problems, such as leaf shading and fruit overlapping. The traditional method of manually estimating the number of fruits and the presence of pests and diseases used in the plum growing industry has disadvantages, such as low efficiency, a high cost, and low accuracy. To detect plum fruits quickly and accurately in a complex orchard environment, this paper proposes an efficient plum fruit detection model based on an improved You Only Look Once version 7(YOLOv7). First, different devices were used to capture high-resolution images of plum fruits growing under natural conditions in a plum orchard in Gulin County, Sichuan Province, and a dataset for plum fruit detection was formed after the manual screening, data enhancement, and annotation. Based on the dataset, this paper chose YOLOv7 as the base model, introduced the Convolutional Block Attention Module (CBAM) attention mechanism in YOLOv7, used Cross Stage Partial Spatial Pyramid Pooling–Fast (CSPSPPF) instead of Cross Stage Partial Spatial Pyramid Pooling(CSPSPP) in the network, and used bilinear interpolation to replace the nearest neighbor interpolation in the original network upsampling module to form the improved target detection algorithm YOLOv7-plum. The tested YOLOv7-plum model achieved an average precision (AP) value of 94.91%, which was a 2.03% improvement compared to the YOLOv7 model. Transmission line detection is the basic task of using UAVs for transmission line inspection and other related tasks. However, the detection results based on traditional methods are vulnerable to noise, and the results may not meet the requirements. The deep learning method based on segmentation may cause a lack of vector information and cannot be applied to subsequent high-level tasks, such as distance estimation, location, and so on. In this paper, the characteristics of transmission lines in UAV images are summarized and utilized, and a lightweight powerline detection network is proposed. In addition, due to the reason that powerlines often run through the whole image and are sparse compared to the background, the FPN structure with Hough transform and the neck structure with multi-scale output are introduced. The former can make better use of edge information in a deep neural network as well as reduce the training time. The latter can reduce the error caused by the imbalance between positive and negative samples, make it easier to detect the lines running through the whole image, and finally improve the network performance. In the last 10 years, the demand for robot-based depalletization systems has constantly increased due to the growth of sectors such as logistics, storage, and supply chains. Since the scenarios are becoming more and more unstructured, characterized by unknown pallet layouts and stock-keeping unit shapes, the classical depalletization systems based on the knowledge of predefined positions within the pallet frame are going to be substituted by innovative and robust solutions based on 2D/3D vision and Deep Learning (DL) methods. In particular, the Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) are deep networks that have proven to be effective in processing 2D/3D images, for example in the automatic object detection task, and robust to the possible variability among the data. However, deep neural networks need a big amount of data to be trained. In this context, whenever deep networks are involved in object detection for supporting depalletization systems, the dataset collection represents one of the main bottlenecks during the commissioning phase. The present work aims at comparing different training strategies to customize an object detection model aiming at minimizing the number of images required for model fitting, while ensuring reliable and robust performances. Different approaches based on a CNN for object detection are proposed, evaluated, and compared in terms of the F1-score. The study was conducted considering different starting conditions in terms of the neural network's weights, the datasets, and the training set sizes. The proposed approaches were evaluated on the detection of different kinds of paper boxes placed on an industrial pallet. Fish individual recognition technology is one of the key technologies to realize automated farming. Aiming at the deficiencies in the existing animal individual recognition technology, this paper proposes a method for individual recognition of underwater fish based on deep learning technology, which is divided into two parts: fish individual object detection and fish individual recognition. In the object detection part, the research has improved a new object detection for underwater fish based on the YOLOv4 algorithm, which changed the feature extraction network in YOLOv4 from CSP Darknet53 to Mobilenetv3 and changed the 3 × 3 convolution in the enhanced feature extraction network PANet to depthwise separable convolution. Compared with the original YOLOv4, the mean average precision is improved by 1.97%. For individual recognition, an algorithm called FIRN (Fish Individual Recognition Network) for individual recognition of underwater fish is proposed. The feature extraction network of the algorithm uses the improved ResNext50, and the loss function uses Arcface Loss. The CBAM attention module is introduced in the residual block of ResNext50, the max-pooling layer in the trunk is removed, and dilated convolution is introduced in the residual block, which increases the receptive field and improves the ability of feature extraction. Pine wilt disease (PWD) is a highly contagious and devastating forest disease. The timely detection of pine trees infected with PWD in the early stage is of great significance to effectively control the spread of PWD and protect forest resources. However, in the spatial domain, the features of early-stage PWD are not distinctly evident, leading to numerous missed detections and false positives when directly using spatial-domain images. However, we found that frequency domain information can more clearly express the characteristics of early-stage PWD. In this paper, we propose a detection method based on deep learning for early-stage PWD by comprehensively utilizing the features in the frequency domain and the spatial domain. An attention mechanism is introduced to further enhance the frequency domain features. Employing two deformable convolutions to fuse the features in both domains, we aim to fully capture semantic and spatial information. To substantiate the proposed method, this study employs UAVs to capture images of early-stage pine trees infected with PWD at Dahuofang Experimental Forest in Fushun, Liaoning Province. A dataset of early infected pine trees affected by PWD is curated to facilitate future research on the detection of early-stage infestations in pine trees. The results on the early-stage PWD dataset indicate that, compared to Faster R-CNN, DETR and YOLOv5, the best-performing method improves the average precision (AP) by 17.7%, 6.2% and 6.0%, and the F1 scores by 14.6%, 3.9% and 5.0%, respectively. The study provides technical support for early-stage PWD tree counting and localization in the field in forest areas and lays the foundation for the early control of pine wood nematode disease. Wildlife is an important part of natural ecosystems and protecting wildlife plays a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance. The wildlife detection method for images and videos based on deep learning can save a lot of labor costs and is of great significance and value for the monitoring and protection of wildlife. However, the complex and changing outdoor environment often leads to less than satisfactory detection results due to insufficient lighting, mutual occlusion, and blurriness. The TMS-YOLO (Takin, Monkey, and Snow Leopard-You Only Look Once) proposed in this paper is a modification of YOLOv7, specifically optimized for wildlife detection. It uses the designed O-ELAN (Optimized Efficient Layer Aggregation Networks) and O-SPPCSPC (Optimized Spatial Pyramid Pooling Combined with Cross Stage Partial Channel) modules and incorporates the CBAM (Convolutional Block Attention Module) to enhance its suitability for this task. In simple terms, O-ELAN can preserve a portion of the original features through residual structures when extracting image features, resulting in more background and animal features. However, O-ELAN may include more background information in the extracted features. Therefore, we use CBAM after the backbone to suppress background features and enhance animal features. Then, when fusing the features, we use O-SPPCSPC with fewer network layers to avoid overfitting. Comparative experiments were conducted on a self-built dataset and a Turkish wildlife dataset. The results demonstrated that the enhanced TMS-YOLO models outperformed YOLOv7 on both datasets. The mAP (mean Average Precision) of YOLOv7 on the two datasets was 90.5% and 94.6%, respectively. In contrast, the mAP of TMS-YOLO in the two datasets was 93.4% and 95%, respectively. These findings indicate that TMS-YOLO can achieve more accurate wildlife detection compared to YOLOv7. The species and population size of marine fish are important for maintaining the ecological environment and reflecting climate change. Traditional fish detection methods mainly rely on manual or traditional computer vision, which has disadvantages such as complex design, low detection accuracy, and poor generalization. The widespread use of ocean observation systems has accumulated a large number of images and videos, which makes the application of deep learning on marine fish detection possible. In this paper, a real-time high-precision fish detection algorithm based on YOLOv5s is constructed. Considering the enhancement of the channel representation and spatial interaction ability of the model, the attention mechanism and gated convolution are introduced, respectively, and GhostNet is introduced to lighten the model. Through a series of model comparisons, two improved models, S-Head-Ghost-Fish9 and S-SE-HorBlock-Head-Ghost-Fish9, are finally obtained. Compared with the original model, in terms of model size, the former reduces by 19% and the latter increases by 9.5%; in terms of computation, the former reduces by 15.7% and the latter reduces by 3.1%; in terms of detection speed, both take about 17 ms to detect a single image, and both can meet the real-time detection requirements; in terms of detection accuracy, the former improves by 3% and the latter by 3.6%. Compared with the latest detection algorithms of YOLOv6 and YOLOv8, the detection accuracy is slightly lower than 1%, but the model size and computation amount are only 1/3 to 1/2 of them. Deep learning algorithms for object detection used in autonomous vehicles require a huge amount of labeled data. Data collecting and labeling is time consuming and, most importantly, in most cases useful only for a single specific sensor application. Therefore, in the course of the research which is presented in this paper, the LiDAR pedestrian detection algorithm was trained on synthetically generated data and mixed (real and synthetic) datasets. The road environment was simulated with the application of the 3D rendering Carla engine, while the data for analysis were obtained from the LiDAR sensor model. In the proposed approach, the data generated by the simulator are automatically labeled, reshaped into range images and used as training data for a deep learning algorithm. Real data from Waymo open dataset are used to validate the performance of detectors trained on synthetic, real and mixed datasets. YOLOv4 neural network architecture is used for pedestrian detection from the LiDAR data. The goal of this paper is to verify if the synthetically generated data can improve the detector's performance. This paper presents a novel approach to training a real-world object detection system based on synthetic data utilizing state-of-the-art technologies. Training an object detection system can be challenging and time-consuming as machine learning requires substantial volumes of training data with associated metadata. Synthetic data can solve this by providing unlimited desired training data with automatic generation. However, the main challenge is creating a balanced dataset that closes the reality gap and generalizes well when deployed in the real world. A state-of-the-art game engine, Unreal Engine 4, was used to approach the challenge of generating a photorealistic dataset for deep learning model training. In addition, a comprehensive domain randomized environment was implemented to create a robust dataset that generalizes the training data well. The randomized environment was reinforced by adding high-dynamic-range image scenes. Finally, a modern neural network was used to train the object detection system, providing a robust framework for an adaptive and self-learning model. The final models were deployed in simulation and in the real world to evaluate the training. The results of this study show that it is possible to train a real-world object detection system on synthetic data. However, the models showcase a lot of potential for improvements regarding the stability and confidence of the inference results. Objective: We propose a deep-learning-based underwater target detection system that can effectively solve the problem of underwater optical image target detection and recognition. Methods: In this paper, based on the depth of the underwater optical image target detection and recognition and using a learning model, we put forward corresponding solutions using the concept of style migration solutions, such as training samples. A lack of variability and poor generalization of practical applications presents a challenge for underwater object identification. The UW_YOLOv3 lightweight model was proposed to solve the problems of calculating energy consumption and storage resource limitations in underwater application scenarios. The detection and recognition module, based on deep learning, can deal with the degradation process of underwater imaging by embedding an image enhancement module into the detection and recognition module for the joint tuning and transferring of knowledge. Results: The detection accuracy of the UW_YOLOv3 model designed in this paper outperformed the lightweight algorithm YOLOV3-TINY by 7.9% at the same image scale input. Compared with other large algorithms, the detection accuracy was lower, but the detection speed was much higher. Compared with the SSD algorithm, the detection accuracy was only 4.7 lower; the speed was 40.9 FPS higher; and the rate was nearly 16 times higher than Faster R-CNN. When the input scale was 224, although part of the accuracy was lost, the detection speed doubled, reaching 156.9 FPS. Conclusion: Based on our framework, the problem of underwater optical image target detection and recognition can be effectively solved. Bronchiectasis is defined as a permanent dilation of the bronchi that can cause pulmonary ventilation dysfunction. CT examination is an important means of diagnosing bronchiectasis. It can also be used in severity scoring. Current studies on bronchiectasis have focused on high-resolution CT (HRCT), ignoring the more common low-dose CT (LDCT). Methodologically, existing studies have not adopted an authoritative standard to classify the severity of bronchiectasis. In effect, the accuracy of detection and classification needs to be improved for practical application. In this paper, the ACER image enhancement method, RDU-Net lung lobe segmentation method and HDC Mask R-CNN model were proposed to detect and classify bronchiectasis. Moreover, a Python-based system was developed: after inputing an LDCT image of a patient's lung, it can automatically perform a series of processing, then call on the trained deep learning model for detection and classification, and automatically obtain the patient's bronchiectasis final score according to the Reiff and BRICS scoring criteria. In this paper, the mapping relationship between original lung CT image data and bronchiectasis scoring system was established. The accuracy of the method proposed in this paper was 91.4%; the IOU, sensitivity and specificity were 88.8%, 88.6% and 85.4%, respectively; and the recognition speed of one picture was about 1 s. Compared to a human doctor, the system can process large amounts of data simultaneously, quickly and efficiently, with the same judgment accuracy as a human doctor. This paper introduces the Color Histogram Contouring (CHC) method, a new training-less approach to object detection that emphasizes the distinctive features in chrominance components. By building a chrominance-rich feature vector with a bin size of 1, the proposed CHC method exploits the precise information in chrominance features without increasing bin sizes, which can lead to false detections. This feature vector demonstrates invariance to lighting changes and is designed to mimic the opponent color axes used by the human visual system. The proposed CHC algorithm iterates over non-zero histogram bins of unique color features in the model, creating a feature vector for each, and emphasizes those matching in both the scene and model histograms. When both model and scene histograms for these unique features align, it ensures the presence of the model in the scene image. Extensive experiments across various scenarios show that the proposed CHC technique outperforms the benchmark training-less Swain and Ballard method and the algorithm of Viola and Jones. Additionally, a comparative experiment with the state-of-the-art You Only Look Once (YOLO) technique reveals that the proposed CHC technique surpasses YOLO in scenarios with limited training data, highlighting a significant advancement in training-less object detection. As deep learning has evolved, larger and deeper neural networks are currently a popular trend in both natural language processing tasks and computer vision tasks. With the increasing parameter size and model complexity in deep neural networks, it is also necessary to have more data available for training to avoid overfitting and to achieve better results. These facts demonstrate that training deep neural networks takes more and more time. In this paper, we propose a training acceleration method based on gradually freezing the parameters during the training process. Specifically, by observing the convergence trend during the training of deep neural networks, we freeze part of the parameters so that they are no longer involved in subsequent training and reduce the time cost of training. Furthermore, an adaptive freezing algorithm for the control of freezing speed is proposed in accordance with the information reflected by the gradient of the parameters. Concretely, a larger gradient indicates that the loss function changes more drastically at that position, implying that there is more room for improvement with the parameter involved; a smaller gradient indicates that the loss function changes less and the learning of that part is close to saturation, with less benefit from further training. We use ViTDet as our baseline and conduct experiments on three remote sensing target detection datasets to verify the effectiveness of the method. Medical imaging and deep learning models are essential to the early identification and diagnosis of brain cancers, facilitating timely intervention and improving patient outcomes. This research paper investigates the integration of YOLOv5, a state-of-the-art object detection framework, with non-local neural networks (NLNNs) to improve brain tumor detection's robustness and accuracy. This study begins by curating a comprehensive dataset comprising brain MRI scans from various sources. To facilitate effective fusion, the YOLOv5 and NLNNs, K-means+, and spatial pyramid pooling fast+ (SPPF+) modules are integrated within a unified framework. The brain tumor dataset is used to refine the YOLOv5 model through the application of transfer learning techniques, adapting it specifically to the task of tumor detection. The results indicate that the combination of YOLOv5 and other modules results in enhanced detection capabilities in comparison to the utilization of YOLOv5 exclusively, proving recall rates of 86% and 83% respectively. Accurate underwater target detection is crucial for the operation of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), enhancing their environmental awareness and target search and rescue capabilities. Current deep learning-based detection models are typically large, requiring substantial storage and computational resources. However, the limited space on AUVs poses significant challenges for deploying these models on the embedded processors. Therefore, research on model compression is of great practical importance, aiming to reduce model parameters and computational load without significantly sacrificing accuracy. To address the challenge of deploying large detection models, this paper introduces an automated pruning method based on dependency graphs and successfully implements efficient pruning on the YOLOv7 model. To mitigate the accuracy degradation caused by extensive pruning, we design a hybrid distillation method that combines output-based and feature-based distillation techniques, thereby improving the detection accuracy of the pruned model. Moving object detection is a vital research area that plays an essential role in intelligent transportation systems (ITSs) and various applications in computer vision. Recently, researchers have utilized convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to develop new techniques in object detection and recognition. However, with the increasing number of machine learning strategies used for object detection, there has been a growing need for large datasets with accurate ground truth used for the training, usually demanding their manual labeling. Moreover, most of these deep strategies are supervised and only applicable for specific scenes with large computational resources needed. Alternatively, other object detection techniques such as classical background subtraction need low computational resources and can be used with general scenes. In this paper, we propose a new a reliable semi-automatic method that combines a modified version of the detection-based CNN You Only Look Once V4 (YOLOv4) technique and background subtraction technique to perform an unsupervised object detection for surveillance videos. In this proposed strategy, background subtraction-based low-rank decomposition is applied firstly to extract the moving objects. Then, a clustering method is adopted to refine the background subtraction (BS) result. Finally, the refined results are used to fine-tune the modified YOLO v4 before using it in the detection and classification of objects. The main contribution of this work is a new detection framework that overcomes manual labeling and creates an automatic labeler that can replace manual labeling using motion information to supply labeled training data (background and foreground) directly from the detection video. Simple Summary: Simple Summary: Pig tracking provides strong support for refined management in pig farms and can assist in realizing customized, automated, and intellectualized management. However, there are many complex factors in actual production that result in pigs not being tracked consistently over time. To address this issue, we proposed a long-term video tracking method for group-housed pigs based on improved StrongSORT. The experimental results proved that our study demonstrates high practicality, catering to the needs of practical production. This study proposes a long-term video tracking method for group-housed pigs based on improved StrongSORT, which can significantly improve the performance of pig tracking in production scenarios. In addition, this research constructs a 24 h pig tracking video dataset, providing a basis for exploring the effectiveness of long-term tracking algorithms. For object detection, a lightweight pig detection network, YOLO v7-tiny_Pig, improved based on YOLO v7-tiny, is proposed to reduce model parameters and improve detection speed. To address the target association problem, the trajectory management method of StrongSORT is optimized according to the characteristics of the pig tracking task to reduce the tracking identity (ID) switching and improve the stability of the algorithm. The experimental results show that YOLO v7-tiny_Pig ensures detection applicability while reducing parameters by 36.7% compared to YOLO v7-tiny and achieving an average video detection speed of 435 frames per second. In terms of pig tracking, Higher-Order Tracking Accuracy (HOTA), Multi-Object Tracking Accuracy (MOTP), and Identification F1 (IDF1) scores reach 83.16%, 97.6%, and 91.42%, respectively. Compared with the original StrongSORT algorithm, HOTA and IDF1 are improved by 6.19% and 10.89%, respectively, and Identity Switch (IDSW) is reduced by 69%. Crabs and lobsters are valuable crustaceans that contribute enormously to the seafood needs of the growing human population. This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of single- and multi-stage object detectors for the detection of crabs and lobsters using images captured onboard fishing boats. We investigate the speed and accuracy of multiple object detection techniques using a novel dataset, multiple backbone networks, various input sizes, and fine-tuned parameters. We extend our work to train lightweight models to accommodate the fishing boats equipped with low-power hardware systems. Firstly, we train Faster R-CNN, SSD, and YOLO with different backbones and tuning parameters. The models trained with higher input sizes resulted in lower frames per second (FPS) and vice versa. The base models were highly accurate but were compromised in computational and run-time costs. The lightweight models were adaptable to low-power hardware compared to the base models. Secondly, we improved the performance of YOLO (v3, v4, and tiny versions) using custom anchors generated by the k-means clustering approach using our novel dataset. The YOLO (v4 and it's tiny version) achieved mean average precision (mAP) of 99.2% and 95.2%, respectively. The YOLOv4-tiny trained on the custom anchor-based dataset is capable of precisely detecting crabs and lobsters onboard fishing boats at 64 frames per second (FPS) on an NVidia GeForce RTX 3070 GPU. As Machine Learning technologies evolve, there is a desire to add vision capabilities to all devices within the IoT in order to enable a wider range of artificial intelligence. However, for most mobile devices, their computing power and storage space are affected by factors such as cost and the tight supply of relevant chips, making it impossible to effectively deploy complex network models to small processors with limited resources and to perform efficient real-time detection. In this paper, YOLOv5 is studied to achieve the goal of lightweight devices by reducing the number of original network channels. Then detection accuracy is guaranteed by adding a detection head and CA attention mechanism. The YOLOv5-RC model proposed in this paper is 30% smaller and lighter than YOLOv5s, but still maintains good detection accuracy. With the continuous promotion of smart substations, staff fall detection has become a key issue in automatic detection of substations. The injuries and safety hazards caused by falls among substation personnel are numerous. If a timely response can be made in the event of a fall, the injuries caused by falls can be reduced. In order to address the issues of low accuracy and poor real-time performance in detecting human falls in complex substation scenarios, this paper proposes an improved algorithm based on YOLOX. A customized feature extraction module is introduced to the YOLOX feature fusion network to extract diverse multiscale features. A recursive gated convolutional module is added to the head to enhance the expressive power of the features. Meanwhile, the SIoU(Soft Intersection over Union) loss function is utilized to provide more accurate position information for bounding boxes, thereby improving the model accuracy. Experimental results show that the improved algorithm achieves an mAP value of 78.45%, which is a 1.31% improvement over the original YOLOX. In order to reach the highest level of automation, autonomous vehicles (AVs) are required to be aware of surrounding objects and detect them even in adverse weather. Detecting objects is very challenging in sandy weather due to characteristics of the environment, such as low visibility, occlusion, and changes in lighting. In this paper, we considered the You Only Look Once (YOLO) version 5 and version 7 architectures to evaluate the performance of different activation functions in sandy weather. In our experiments, we targeted three activation functions: Sigmoid Linear Unit (SiLU), Rectified Linear Unit (ReLU), and Leaky Rectified Linear Unit (LeakyReLU). The metrics used to evaluate their performance were precision, recall, and mean average precision (mAP). We used the Detection in Adverse Weather Nature (DAWN) dataset which contains various weather conditions, though we selected sandy images only. Moreover, we extended the DAWN dataset and created an augmented version of the dataset using several augmentation techniques, such as blur, saturation, brightness, darkness, noise, exposer, hue, and grayscale. Our results show that in the original DAWN dataset, YOLOv5 with the LeakyReLU activation function surpassed other architectures with respect to the reported research results in sandy weather and achieved 88% mAP. Using a safety belt is crucial for preventing severe injuries and fatalities during vehicle accidents. In this paper, we propose a real-time vehicle occupant safety belt detection system based on the YOLOv7 (You Only Look Once version seven) object detection algorithm. The proposed approach aims to automatically detect whether the occupants of a vehicle have buckled their safety belts or not as soon as they are detected within the vehicle. A dataset for this purpose was collected and annotated for validation and testing. By leveraging the efficiency and accuracy of YOLOv7, we achieve near-instantaneous analysis of video streams, making our system suitable for deployment in various surveillance and automotive safety applications. This paper outlines a comprehensive methodology for training the YOLOv7 model using the labelImg tool to annotate the dataset with images showing vehicle occupants. It also discusses the challenges of detecting seat belts and evaluates the system's performance on a real-world dataset. Internet of Things, blockchain and deep learning are emerging technologies that have recently gained popularity due to their various benefits and applications. All three domains have had success independently in various applications such as automation, agriculture, travel, finance, image recognition, speech recognition, and many others. This paper proposes an efficient, lightweight, and user-friendly solution to help visually impaired individuals navigate their way by taking advantage of modern technologies. The proposed method involves the usage of a camera lens attached to a Raspberry Pi device to capture live video frames of the user's environment, which are then transmitted to cloud storage. The link to access these images is stored within a symmetrical private blockchain network (no superior access), where all deep learning servers act as nodes. The deep learning model deployed on these servers analyses the video frames to detect objects and feeds the output back to the cloud service. Ultimately, the user receives audio notifications about obstacles through an earphone plugged into the Raspberry Pi. In particular, when running the model on a high-performing network and an RTX 3090 GPU, the average obstacle notification time is reported within 2 s, highlighting the proposed system's responsiveness and effectiveness in aiding visually impaired individuals. Accurately identifying and locating water-crossing objects is of utmost importance for environmental protection. However, traditional detection algorithms often exhibit poor anti-interference performance and low detection accuracy in complex environments. To address these issues, this paper proposes a YOLOW algorithm based on a one-stage object detection algorithm for the automatic identification of water objects. The proposed algorithm incorporates two new modules, namely the SPDCS module and the SPPAUG module, to improve the model's performance. Specifically, the SPDCS module retains all information in the channel dimension, thereby enhancing the model's detection accuracy and recognition ability for water-crossing objects. The SPPAUG module performs multiscale feature fusion, which further improves the model's detection accuracy and recognition ability. Moreover, the C2f module is introduced from YOLOv8 to increase the detection speed. Experimental results on a water-floating object dataset demonstrate that the improved YOLOW model outperforms the standard YOLOv5s algorithm, especially in water-crossing object detection. Environmental protection is still a key issue that cannot be ignored at this stage of social development. With the development of artificial intelligence, various technologies increasingly tend to be widely used in the field of environmental protection, such as searching the wilderness through an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and cleaning garbage by robots. Traditional object detection algorithms for this scenario suffer from low accuracy and high computational cost. Therefore, this paper proposes an algorithm applied to automatic garbage detection and instance segmentation in complex scenes. First, we construct sample-fused feature pyramid networks (SF-FPN) to achieve multi-scale feature sampling on multiple levels, to enhance the semantic representation of features. Second, adding the mask branch based on conditional convolution, introducing the idea of instance-filters to automatically generate the filter parameters of the Fully Convolutional Networks (FCN), to realize the instance-level pixel classification. Moreover, the Atrous Spatial Pyramid Pooling (ASPP) module is introduced to encode the feature information in a dense way to assist the generation of MASK. Finally, the object is detected and the instance is segmented by a two-branch structure. In addition, we also perform data augmentation on the original dataset to prevent model overfitting. Object detection is a computer vision task of detecting instances of objects of a certain class, identifying types of objects, determining its location, and accurately labelling them in an input image or a video. The scope of the work presented within this paper proposes a modern object detection network called NextDet to efficiently detect objects of multiple classes which utilizes CondenseNeXt, an award-winning lightweight image classification convolutional neural network algorithm with reduced number of FLOPs and parameters as the backbone, to efficiently extract and aggregate image features at different granularities in addition to other novel and modified strategies such as attentive feature aggregation in the head, to perform object detection and draw bounding boxes around the detected objects. Extensive experiments and ablation tests, as outlined in this paper, are performed on Argoverse-HD and COCO datasets, which provide numerous temporarily sparse to dense annotated images, demonstrate that the proposed object detection algorithm with CondenseNeXt as the backbone result in an increase in mean Average Precision (mAP) performance and interpretability on Argoverse-HD's monocular ego-vehicle camera captured scenarios by up to 17.39% as well as COCO's large set of images of everyday scenes of real-world common objects by up to 14.62%. Border patrol object detection is an important basis for obtaining information about the border patrol area and for analyzing and determining the mission situation. Border Patrol Staffing is now equipped with medium to close range UAVs and portable reconnaissance equipment to carry out its tasks. In this paper, we designed a detection algorithm TP-ODA for the border patrol object detection task in order to improve the UAV and portable reconnaissance equipment for the task of border patrol object detection, which is mostly performed in embedded devices with limited computing power and the detection frame imbalance problem is improved; finally, the PDOEM structure is designed in the neck network to optimize the feature fusion module of the algorithm. In order to verify the improvement effect of the algorithm in this paper, the Border Patrol object dataset BDP is constructed. The experiments show that, compared to the baseline model, the TP-ODA algorithm improves mAP by 2.9%, reduces GFLOPs by 65.19%, reduces model volume by 63.83% and improves FPS by 8.47%. The model comparison experiments were then combined with the requirements of the border patrol tasks, and it was concluded that the TP-ODA model is more suitable for UAV and portable reconnaissance equipment to carry and can better fulfill the task of border patrol object detection. Simple Summary: In response to the quantitative demand for the practical deployment of applications and the need to enhance the detection accuracy of wildlife in complex field environments in southwest China and neighboring regions, we have refined the wildlife detection algorithm based on re-parameterized convolution. This refinement is specifically targeted at addressing the challenges posed by the low quality of wildlife images captured by camera traps and the limitations of traditional object detection algorithms in feature extraction capability. To address these issues, we have introduced a series of improvement schemes. As a result of these enhancements, there has been a noteworthy improvement in both the accuracy of wildlife detection and the speed of model inference. This advancement offers a convenient and efficient method for the preliminary detection in the context of automated wildlife monitoring. To autonomously detect wildlife images captured by camera traps on a platform with limited resources and address challenges such as filtering out photos without optimal objects, as well as classifying and localizing species in photos with objects, we introduce a specialized wildlife object detector tailored for camera traps. This detector is developed using a dataset acquired by the Saola Working Group (SWG) through camera traps deployed in Vietnam and Laos. Utilizing the YOLOv6-N object detection algorithm as its foundation, the detector is enhanced by a tailored optimizer for improved model performance. We deliberately introduce asymmetric convolutional branches to enhance the feature characterization capability of the Backbone network. Additionally, we streamline the Neck and use CIoU loss to improve detection performance. For quantitative deployment, we refine the RepOptimizer to train a pure VGG-style network. Experimental results demonstrate that our proposed method empowers the model to achieve an 88.3% detection accuracy on the wildlife dataset in this paper. This accuracy is 3.1% higher than YOLOv6-N, and surpasses YOLOv7-T and YOLOv8-N by 5.5% and 2.8%, respectively. The model consistently maintains its detection performance even after quantization to the INT8 precision, achieving an inference speed of only 6.15 ms for a single image on the NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX device. The improvements we introduce excel in tasks related to wildlife image recognition and object localization captured by camera traps, providing practical solutions to enhance wildlife monitoring and facilitate efficient data acquisition.
