Sustainable energy presently represents the energy of the future, which should be based on the application respecting the importance of energy priorities, increasing regional self-sufficiency, regional control of energy, and regulation of resource use. In the area of energy supply, the use of RES has been increasingly popular, mainly due to the instability in the energy market and the political situation worldwide. Paper's ambition is to evaluate the efficiency of the selected RES use in the specific conditions of Slovakia, with the aim to achieve the EU targets. This is important due to the increasing use of RES in Slovakia. The objective of this paper is achieved through an analysis of the energy profit of the RES system, comparing the costs of the proposed solutions. The evaluation is carried out by calculating the energy and economic efficiency of three possible buildings used in the research. Using the data obtained, the results show the most suitable alternative for each building. The resulting findings provide a valuable insight for governments in identifying the best projects for RES use. In recent years, the growing demand for efficient and sustainable energy management has led to the development of innovative solutions for embedded systems. One such solution is the integration of hybrid nanogrid energy management systems into various applications. There are currently many energy management systems in different domains, such as buildings, electric vehicles, or even naval transport. However, an embedded nanogrid management system is subject to several constraints that are not sufficiently studied in the literature. Indeed, such a system often has a limited energy reserve and is isolated from any energy supply for a long time. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of research, advancements, and challenges in the field of hybrid nanogrid energy management systems. Furthermore, it offers a comparative analysis between hybrid nanogrids and microgrids and the implications of their integration in embedded systems. Microgrids have emerged as a pivotal solution in the quest for efficient, resilient, and sustainable energy systems. Comprising diverse distributed energy resources, microgrids present a compelling opportunity to revolutionize how we generate, store, and distribute electricity, while simultaneously reducing carbon footprints. This paper proposes an optimal battery energy storage system (BESS) management scheme, along with capacitor placement for reactive power (Q)-compensation, and scheduling for the purpose of a renewable-based microgrid's loss minimization. The proposed model evaluates the impact of BESS management on energy efficiency and analyzes how optimal scheduling of BESS influences system losses. Furthermore, it investigates the coordinated planning and operation of active assets within the microgrid, such as controllable capacitor banks, in enhancing overall efficiency. The model is formulated as a mixed-integer second-order cone programming (MISOCP) problem which is solved for both deterministic and stochastic generation and consumption data. The proposed model is tested on a 21-bus microgrid comprising photovoltaic and hydropower energy resources, and the efficacy of the model is approved by several case studies. The simulation results show that the proposed method can reduce microgrid energy losses by approximately 12 percent using the deterministic approach and around 14 percent with the stochastic approach. The Rockaways Peninsula faces issues related to congestion and power outages during times of peak usage. Additionally, it is susceptible to disruptions caused by disasters such as hurricanes and storms. In this paper, we propose a new methodology that employs multi-paradigm modelling and control for the design and implementation of interconnected microgrid systems in the Rockaways. Microgrids are small-scale power networks that incorporate renewable energy technologies for power generation and distribution to enhance the control of energy supply and demand. Multi-paradigm modelling is employed to describe microgrids' dynamic behavior more accurately by integrating system dynamics, agent-based modelling, as well as discrete event and continuous time simulation. We use agent-based models to describe the behavior of separate microgrid elements and the microgrid as a whole. Discrete event/continuous time simulation is used to analyze real-time operation of electrical parameters, such as voltage, current and frequency. Thus, the design, analysis and performance of microgrids are improved. Also, control strategies are used for the purpose of enabling the microgrids to operate effectively by responding to changes in power supply and demand and minimizing the effects of disturbances. The findings of this study demonstrate the feasibility and resilience benefits of incorporating multi-paradigm modelling and control in the design and management of microgrid systems in the Rockaways, which can result in the development of more durable, efficient, and sustainable energy systems in the region. This paper examines the potential of solar and hydrogen (H 2) energy-based hybrid energy systems for residential applications. The growing need for energy and the demand for sustainable energy sources have led to the development of integrated energy systems that combine renewable energy resources to meet energy needs. This paper overviews recent studies on hybrid energy systems for on-grid and off-grid residential utilizations. It discusses the system configuration and components of hybrid energy systems, including solar panels, electrolyzers, fuel cells (FC), and batteries. It also covers the technical optimization of integrated energy systems, including sizing, control strategies, and economic analysis. The key findings of this review paper indicate that hybrid energy systems can offer dependable and sustainable energy for residential applications. Through numerical analyses, the optimal dimensioning of the system elements and control strategies can significantly enhance the system's performance and lower the cost of energy. This study also highlights the challenges and opportunities for integrating hybrid energy systems within residential applications. With the development of the economy and society, the importance of a secure and stable electricity supply continues to increase. However, the power grid is facing the test of excess installed capacity, the waste of renewable energy, and a low comprehensive utilization rate. This problem stems from the inconsistent peak–valley differences between power production and consumption, and the lack of clear electricity price signals, which disrupts the safe and stable operation of the power market. This paper combines the interactive transactions among clean energy power generation companies, users, and energy storage, explores how the system optimization model can be reflected in the power market through regulatory measures, and formulates the optimal output scheme of the system under the constraints of clean energy power generation forecast data, user base load forecast data, demand-side resource regulation ability, and energy storage system regulation ability to achieve the goals of comprehensive clean energy power consumption and minimum cost for users. A comprehensive analysis of the proposed model was conducted using actual data from a certain province in China, the results show that the consumption of clean energy will increase by 3% to full consumption and the total cost of users will be 32% lower than that of time-of-use (TOU) power prices, which proves the potential of the proposed joint optimization model in absorbing clean energy and the effectiveness of the market mechanism. Though frequent availability of energy is vital for economic growth, using any energy source can have a certain degree of impact on the environment. Pakistan is facing the worst power crisis nowadays. The government of Pakistan has been focused to find energy solutions in fossil fuels. As the world moves toward a clean sustainable direction, coal sources are cheap at the moment, and new coal-based power plants can be put up quickly with a predictable output, but with the degradation of the environment, Pakistan can utilize sustainable energy resources such as biomass, solar energy, hydropower, and wind power, which are frequently available in Pakistan and can generate environment-friendly power above 40,000 MW. It is necessary to consider these sustainable energy resources, as their prices have been dipping dramatically, and it is now cheaper to build new commercial plants based on improved technologies able to generate more electricity. Due to their small size and isolated energy systems, islands face a significant energy supply challenge. To develop sustainable energy systems, Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems (HRES) help in the generation of electricity in island zones, as they are a clean and inexhaustible source of energy. The purpose of this study is to optimize the allocation of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) on an island in Tunisia. To ensure efficient management between the total power generation and the total community load demand, an Energy Management System (EMS) is required. This paper presents the integration of an optimal EMS using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to directly allocate and optimize the energy generated by an HRES. In addition, the PSO algorithm is applied to regulate energy production, consumption, and storage to maximize the utilization of the available renewable sources while satisfying load requirements. The results exhibit that this approach is effective for the dynamic optimization of energy management in an HRES, contributing to a more efficient and sustainable utilization of energy resources. This paper presents the feasibility analysis and study of integrated renewable energy (IRE) using solar photovoltaic (PV) and wind turbine (WT) system in a hypothetical study of rural health clinic in Borno State, Nigeria. Electrical power consumption and metrology data (such as solar radiation and wind speed) were used for designing and analyzing the integrated renewable energy system. The health clinic facility energy consumption is 19 kWh/day with a 3.4 kW peak demand load. The metrological data was collected from National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) website and used to analyze the performance of electrical generation system using HOMER program. The simulation and optimization results show that the optimal integrated renewable energy system configuration consists of 5 kW PV array, BWC Excel‐R 7.5 kW DC wind turbine, 24 unit Surrette 6CS25P battery cycle charging, and a 19 kW AC/DC converter and that the PV power can generate electricity at 9,138 kWh/year while the wind turbine system can generate electricity at 7,490 kWh/year, giving the total electrical generation of the system as 16,628 kWh/year. This would be suitable for deployment of 100% clean energy for uninterruptable power performance in the health clinic. The economics analysis result found that the integrated renewable system has total NPC of 137,139 US Dollar. The results of this research show that, with a low energy health facility, it is possible to meet the entire annual energy demand of a health clinic solely through a stand‐alone integrated renewable PV/wind energy supply. With the urgent global need to limit warming to 2 °C as well as a localized need in our case study to address rising energy demand amid electrical and thermal network limitations, a critical examination of demand-side energy reductions and the concept of energy sufficiency is needed. This paper contributes to the sparse literature on bottom-up analysis by utilizing Iceland—a leader in renewable energy generation—as a case study to explore the socio-economic factors influencing energy footprints. Our findings reveal significant energy footprints across various consumption domains, particularly housing and mobility, influenced by income levels, urbanization, and lifestyle choices. The study highlights the paradox of a high renewable energy supply leading to potential misconceptions regarding abundant and low-cost energy, resulting in substantial energy consumption-related environmental impacts. Using detailed household consumption survey data, this research provides insights crucial for developing sustainable energy policies that not only target technological advancements but also address the need for a reduction in energy demand and a shift towards energy sufficiency. This work marks a contribution to the literature through the provision of a case study of low income inequality and high energy footprints in a highly renewable energy system context. Further, this work is useful for Icelandic and international policymakers to understand in such high-demand contexts which consumption domains would be most relevant for sufficiency policies. Integrated energy system (IES) has become significant in the global energy revolution because of its unique advantage of promoting clean energy use and improving energy efficiency. However, its low-carbon operational optimization and capacity allocation challenges have sharply increased because, as its scale continuously grows, its inherent strongly coupled multi energy flow and high nonlinearity characteristics have become more prominent. This study proposes a distributed low-carbon operational optimization mechanism for an IES using integrated demand response (IDR) and ladder carbon trading (LCT). First, a low-carbon IES was modeled as a coupled model between energy operators (EO) that contain combined cooling, heating, and power systems (CCHP) and flexible users (FU) based on the Stackelberg game. Second, the operational optimization model was formulated as a source-load synergistic operation scheduling mechanism based on IDR and the LCT. Finally, the strategy of each stakeholder was obtained using a modified distributed algorithm of genetic algorithm nested quadratic programming (GA-QP). The effectiveness of the proposed model was verified through a case study. The economic benefits for each stakeholder improved, as confirmed through the experimental results. The energy cost of the FU decreased by 4.42%, and the revenue from energy sales of the EO increased by 11.9%; renewable energy was prioritized for consumption, with a consumption rate of 100%; the total output of the core devices for energy cascade utilization increased by 15.6%, significantly improving energy supply efficiency; the total carbon emissions decreased by 8.64%; and power and heat loss rates were 0% and 0.00059%, respectively. The green transition is a challenge for the Polish economy and energy sector. In this paper, the expert method of analysis was applied and findings revealed that the challenges and prerequisites for an effective transformation of the power sector mainly include technical, technological and organizational issues of energy production and use. The provision of electricity at competitive prices and with a low carbon footprint, for individual consumers and industry, is a prerequisite for maintaining the well-being of the population and ensuring the competitiveness of domestically produced goods. The ambitious climate policy goals of the European Union require immediate action and call for radical changes in the Polish energy sector; in the coming years, it must drastically reduce the amount of energy produced from fossil fuels and replace it with so-called green energy from renewable sources. The main purpose of this article was to highlight the need to modify Poland's energy policy until 2040 in order to make it more consistent with the ambitious climate goals of the European Union. This article also shows that Poland's energy transition must include a shift from fossil fuels to renewables, while ensuring that energy security is stabilized by the current energy and generation resources. In recent times, the research in sustainable energy resources was integrated with the control approaches of various hybrid renewable energy systems for balancing the electricity generation. The accelerated hybrid energy storage systems and steadily growing energy consumption make the variability and the predictable behavior occur in the renewable energy sources, which requires an energy management system. This paper aims to control hybrid renewable energy systems for power management. The systems consist of photovoltaic (PV) arrays, diesel generators, wind systems with boost converter DC-DC, and inverters. The optimum of the real-time process is less due to prediction errors of multiple renewable sources, which track the output voltage and load current. Model predictive control (MPC) is proposed for problem-solving time operation to address this issue and compensate for the prediction error. The major impact factors, such as optimal split power, stability, reliability of energy, and desired dynamic responses, have been identified by applying the MPC technique. Hybrid energy system (HES) is considered a solution to the energy supply issue, particularly in rural areas to achieve their sustainable development goals. The rise in energy consumption has increased the appeal of renewable resources, because of their potential to supply consumers with competitive, carbon-free electricity. This paper suggests strategies for managing energy and the most recently published optimizers for designing a stand-alone HES positioned in a remote region of southwest Egypt. This HES includes two green energy sources (wind and solar) and a storage system for energy (battery) as the first backup in addition to a second backup (diesel). The most recent sizing techniques employing the Chernobyl disaster optimizer, dynamic control cuckoo search (DCCS), and gold rush optimizer have been suggested to obtain the optimal design of the utilized HES. Furthermore, an in-depth evaluation of the applied optimization approaches has been achieved based on a comparative study. A detailed analysis of the studied algorithms aims to identify the optimum algorithm that provides the lowest possible cost at the highest level of reliability for the proposed HES. Electricity load prediction plays a vital role in energy management. The necessity of combining scattered power generation channels of sustainable energy and other substitute resources into distribution grid networks is increasing because of the 4.1 percent rise in world electricity since 2021. The utilization of probability power generators and energy storage is maximized by short-term load prediction methods, which make it possible to anticipate potential energy usage. To facilitate the growth of energy systems in quite a sustainable way, urban energy planners utilize a range of methods and technological advances, including simulation, probability optimization, comprehensive improvement, and modelling techniques for predicting power requirements. Predicting energy consumption at granular time scales (e.g., hourly or sub-hourly intervals) is common practice for short-term energy load prediction. For similar time-series forecasting challenges, the authors have decided to use transfer learning (TL) with light gradient-boosting machine (LightGBM).1 This model can benefit from models trained on larger data sets through TL, which might boost prediction accuracy. Energy prediction and effective resource utilization largely support the accurate transition of energy systems. In this paper, the authors propose a hybrid model for short-term energy load prediction. Based on TL to optimize LightGBM (OLGBM) for smart grids, The proposed model first applies data pre-processing using an abnormal supplement strategy with an immediate deviation selection technique. This phase eliminates the missing values and extracts the required features.The second phase uses a TL-OLGBM with hyperparameters. The TL method helps to learn the dynamic time scale and complex data patterns, and the hyperparameters are tuned via the Bayesian optimization technique, which addresses the challenge of short-term load forecasting (STLF) and increases forecasting accuracy. Finally, an optimized LightGBM model is applied, combining the time and energy features to predict effective energy forecasting. The proposed model gained a 2.834589 mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) value and a 0.9706495 GINI index after execution on the prescribed data set. We compare the performance of the proposed model with other comparable models, and the simulation outcomes show that the model can generate the best results for MAPE, accuracy, and root-mean-square deviation (RMSE). In the growing world, the utilization of electrical energy is increasing rapidly. Excessive use of fossil fuels will drain them and also invite hazardous pollution. Integrating renewable energy resources as distributed generators (DGs) can fulfill the rapidly increasing electrical energy demand and promote green energy generation to a large extent. The intermittent nature of renewable energy and higher penetration of DG may adversely affect the operation of the distribution network (DN). As a result, power disparity, reverse power flow to the grid, and voltage instability may exist. One key solution is to optimally integrate the renewable energy-based DG and battery energy storage system (BESS) in the coordination of demand response (DR). This paper proposes a multilevel particle swarm optimization technique to synchronize the distributed energy resources (DER) and DR in the DN. The proposed approach is implemented on the IEEE 33 bus system energized by coal power plant (CPP). The first level of optimization finds the sizes and locations of DER (DG and BESS), and the next level determines the optimal power dispatch in the coordination of DR. The outcomes of this framework exhibit effectiveness in the optimal utilization of renewable energy resources and the enhancement of power quality parameters in DN so that CO2 emissions are reduced by 32.71% from CPP. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused fluctuations in electricity demand, altering people's lifestyles and electricity usage patterns, thereby affecting the accuracy of demand predictions. However, existing studies on electricity forecasting have not adequately considered the incorporation of COVID-19-related features and the analysis of electricity usage characteristics across different regions of the UK. Therefore, this paper, based on data of the UK's national electricity demand, conducts an analysis around the scenario of a large-scale health emergency in society. We explore the changing patterns and regional characteristics of electricity consumption during the COVID-19 pandemic, comparing the forecast results before and during the pandemic to illustrate its impact on the UK's electricity demand. By introducing COVID-19-related features into the models, we compare the forecast results before and after their inclusion. The results indicate that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a certain impact on the electricity prediction in the UK, leading to a 22.8% decrease in prediction accuracy. However, the models' correlation improved with the inclusion of COVID-19-related features, resulting in a 13.2% enhancement in prediction accuracy compared to the previous models. Additionally, the study summarizes other factors influencing electricity demand, such as power imports/exports and clean energy usage, as considerations for electricity distribution planning. This contributes to improving the accuracy of predicting the UK's electricity demand during COVID-19 pandemic, enabling the government to adjust power dispatching plans reasonably based on relevant factors, achieving rational distribution and efficient scheduling of power resources. Against the backdrop of increasingly prominent environmental issues, new energy consumption issues, and energy supply and demand balance issues, the optimization of multi time scale operation of distributed electro hydrogen coupling systems has become a research focus. Based on this, this article optimizes the multi time scale operation of a distributed electric hydrogen coupling system that takes into account grid interaction. By designing a system framework for distributed electro hydrogen coupling systems, operational strategies for each system were proposed. Analyzed the uncertainty and response characteristics of wind and solar power generation units and load demand, and constructed a multiple uncertainty model for distributed electric hydrogen coupling system. At the same time, a three stage, multi time scale operation optimization model of the electric hydrogen coupling system was constructed based on the response characteristics of the distributed electric hydrogen coupling system. At the same time, the deployment of distributed photovoltaic (DPV) in megacities plays an important role in promoting the integration of "building-photovoltaic", adjusting the city's clean energy supply system, and building a green, and low-carbon smart city. The development of a new "DPV-5G Base Station-Energy Storage (DPV-5G BS-ES)" coupled DC microgrid system and its pre-deployment investment costs are fundamental factors to be considered when the problem of large-scale DPV and BS deployment in cities has to be addressed. There are almost no published papers on this issue in the literature, which only consider the problem of maximizing the deployment of 5G BS service coverage or only perform optimization analyses for the performance of microgrid systems without considering the economic optimality and low-carbon green issues in the construction of urban utilities. In order to solve the problem of 5G BS deployment and economic optimization of topology in the "DPV-5G BS-ES" coupled DC microgrid system, a novel deployment strategy is proposed in this paper. The strategy is divided into: (a) The Geographic Information System (GIS) for extracting and analyzing 3D data from all buildings in the area. (b) A GIS-based formulation of a mixed integer quadratic constrained planning model (BSSCP) under discrete fixed radius coverage constraints is used to delineate building clusters within the area and determine the optimal deployment location of 5G BS under each sub-cluster. (c) An Improved Self-Organizing Mapping (ISOM) model combines GIS and microgrid performance parameters to address the economically optimal connection of grid lines for DPV in 3D space. (d) Simulation experiments were conducted for the power output and profitability of eight different PV panels and tracking systems to calculate the economically optimal type of DPV generation hardware. The experimental results show that the BSSCP model proposed in this study reduced the 5G BS deployment cost input by up to 35.8974 % compared to that of the control experimental model. In order to promote the synergistic green and low-carbon development of energy supply-demand sides, this paper uses the complex network evolutionary game to explore the impact of supply side decision-making on the diffusion of low-carbon transformation on demand-side under low-carbon policies. The result shows that: (1) It is feasible for the government to use carbon trading as a policy tool to promote synergistic low-carbon transformation on supply-demand sides, but it is constrained by the carbon price trend. Conflict can increase the risk profile of fossil fuel-oriented projects due to disruptions in the energy supply chain and potentially impact the clean energy transition in G7 economies. Thus, the paper investigates the unexplored connections between energy uncertainty, geopolitical conflict, and the militarization index with renewable and non-renewable energy in G7 (1997–2022). The application of advanced econometric algorithms, notably the Methods of Moment Quantile Regression, reveals that energy uncertainty has a positive effect on renewable energy consumption and a negative effect on non-renewable energy consumption. Furthermore, the current geopolitical landscape poses unfavorable conditions for both the expansion of renewable energy usage and the utilization of non-renewable energy sources. The global militarism index relies on non-renewable rather than renewable energy sources. The study employed the Impulse Response Function using Bayesian vector autoregression. The study discovered that variations in energy uncertainty initially enhance the usage of renewable energy but ultimately have adverse consequences for renewable and non-renewable energy consumption. This research develops an enhanced OSeMOSYS energy system model to examine long-term energy supply strategies, using Morocco as a case study. The proposed model addresses the specific needs of decision-makers in developing countries, enabling the achievement of renewable energy targets and optimal temporal resolution. A baseline and three alternative scenarios were developed, exploring both a restructuring plan to address existing gaps and a forward-looking policy targeting nearly 100 % renewable energy. These scenarios are assessed in terms of installed capacity, generation mix, investment costs, variable and fixed costs, storage capacity utilization, and carbon emissions. The results indicate that a 92 % integration rate for renewables is feasible at an additional cost of $32 billion, thanks to new energy efficiency measures reducing demand by 15 % between 2030 and 2050 compared to baseline forecasts. Furthermore, an ambitious energy strategy by 2050 could achieve the lowest emissions rate of 0.29 Mt, paving the way for complete decarbonization. Technologically, investment in pumped-storage hydroelectric plants is the most viable backup option for a country dependent on natural gas imports. With dynamic changes in the energy market and continuous advances in smart energy technology, regional integrated energy systems (RIESs) have emerged as a vital direction in the evolution of energy systems. They are increasingly gaining significance in the realm of energy supply (ES) and demand response initiatives. In this context, this article introduces a novel optimal operational model for an integrated energy system (IES) that incorporates energy price responsiveness. The paper commences by delivering a comprehensive overview of the typical structure of an IES, presenting detailed models for each system module, encompassing the electrical energy supplier, heating, and cooling components. The proposed system model comprises three distinct subsystems, each catering to specific energy requirements. The primary emphasis is on devising an efficient planning scheme tailored to the energy consumption patterns and operational aspects of the IES. Through the presented model, there is substantial potential for significantly reducing the overall system cost without inducing a noteworthy upsurge in environmental pollution. Moreover, the energy efficiency of the system can experience considerable enhancement. The desired optimization problem has been solved using the proposed multi-objective Horse Herd Optimization Algorithm (MOHHOA). Additionally, in this strategy, Pareto front and fuzzy selection are employed to make better decisions among all Pareto solutions. The optimization strategy devised in this research not only enables the integrated operation of the IES but also ensures its compatibility with ongoing energy development initiatives. The proposed method yields a diverse set of Pareto solutions across the objective space, providing various trade-offs between economic, environmental, and reliability considerations. Utilizing MOHHOA, the algorithm efficiently balances exploration and exploitation during optimization, resulting in informed decision-making. In optimal planning, Scenario 2 exhibits lower operational costs (8.2 % reduction) and a dramatic improvement in LESP (1.24 %–1.176 %) compared to Scenario 1. The economic development of any nation depends on energy production and consumption, thereby, needing more exploration from researchers. The current article thus makes an attempt to examine the role of REW and non-REW energy on the economic development in China. The current article has used renewable energy production (REP), and renewable energy consumption (REC) to measure renewable energy. The current research has used fossil fuel energy consumption, energy use, energy import, and electric power consumption to measure non-renewable energy. The present study has taken secondary data from world development indicators from 1986 to 2020. Due to increasing environmental concerns and demand for clean energy resources, photovoltaic (PV) systems are becoming more prevalent. Considering that in several instances, customers pay for both energy and power, PV installations not only must reduce the customers' energy purchases but also lower their peak demand for maximum financial benefits. However, in many cases, the peak demand does not coincide with the peak of photovoltaic generation. To address this issue, excess energy generated during low-demand periods can be stored in a battery, which can then be used to meet peak demand. Determining the optimal size of photovoltaic and battery components while ensuring system performance and financial benefits is significantly challenging. This study proposes a novel statistical methodology for optimizing PV-battery system size. In the proposed method, the PV-battery system must meet peak demand thresholds with a specific probability. Further, cost and benefit functions are used for financial evaluation. The rapid growth of distributed renewable energy penetration is promoting the evolution of the energy system toward decentralization and decentralized and digitized smart grids. This study was based on energy blockchain, and developed a dual-biding mechanism based on the real-time energy surplus and demand in the local smart grid, which is expected to enable reliable, affordable, and clean energy supply in smart communities. In the proposed system, economic benefits could be achieved by replacing fossil-fuel-based electricity with the high penetration of affordable solar PV electricity. The reduction of energy surplus realized by distributed energy production and P2P energy trading, within the smart grid results in less transmission loss and lower requirements for costly upgrading of existing grids. By adopting energy blockchain and smart contract technologies, energy secure trading with a low risk of privacy leakage could be accommodated. China's rural solar photovoltaic projects (SPVPs), as an innovative initiative to improve livelihoods through clean energy, have played a positive role in poverty reduction. However, whether this measure can enhance energy services for rural families remains unconfirmed. This paper employs a quasi-experimental method from the perspectives of energy service accessibility and affordability to quantify the net contribution of China's rural SPVPs to enhancing family energy services. The results indicate: (1) SPVPs can significantly improve family energy services, with a net effect of 14.7 % on the energy service accessibility and a net effect of 44.5 % on the energy service affordability. (2) SPVPs can increase the energy consumption capacity, energy supply capacity and energy equipment utilization rate by 2.6 %, 7.1 % and 5 %, respectively. Furthermore, these initiatives can effectively slash the energy costs of rural families by 4.3 %, bolster the energy access affordability by 3.9 %, and catapult energy investments by an impressive 44.9 %. The transfer of energy-intensive projects to areas abundant in clean energy resources holds promise for optimizing the energy structure. After obtaining specific information on transferred projects of listed energy-intensive firms through search or phone contact, this paper innovatively constructs a three-dimensional panel containing 1,859,220 observations to empirically examine the attraction of clean energy to energy-intensive projects under the carbon intensity constraint policy (CICP). Our findings reveal that: (1) the CICP promotes the transfer of gray energy-intensive projects, leading to the transfer structure trending towards graying. (2) Furthermore, we observe a positive correlation between the proportion of thermal power in transfer-out areas and the outflow of gray energy-intensive projects. Conversely, areas with higher wind power and photovoltaics attract a greater inflow of gray energy-intensive projects. (3) Notably, clean energy predominantly attracts the inflow of gray projects rather than green projects. Our findings provide micro evidence and valuable insights into the transfer of energy-intensive industries, informing the design and implementation of future environmental policies for policymakers and stakeholders. Institutions of higher learning in South Africa are grappling with occasional power outages in lecture halls, leading to disruptions in academic activities and occasional loss of lecture hours. Therefore, this study presents a comprehensive evaluation of a grid-connected solar PV/Li-ion battery microgrid (μG) system aimed at maintaining a constant power supply to selected lecture halls at a university in the Western Cape, South Africa. The microgrid design, modelling, and simulations, conducted in the MATLAB/Simulink environment, include the solar PV, Li-ion battery, energy consumption of the lecture halls (load profile), boost converter, bidirectional converter, and grid. Using the detailed design, modelling, and simulation, the study evaluates the economic and environmental impacts of integrating μGs, focusing on enhancing energy reliability, reducing operational costs, and mitigating CO2 emissions. The results indicate that integrating the microgrid resulted in a significant 51% reduction in energy cost and a decrease in greenhouse gas emissions by 530 kgCO2e per hour. In Cases 2 and 4, where the battery supplied power, the annual battery degradation costs are 6.08% and 14.9% of the initial cost, respectively. The μG ensures an uninterrupted power supply and improves the overall reliability of the university's energy infrastructure. It promotes environmental sustainability goals of zero emissions and maintains continuous academic activities during grid outages. There is a serious need for reducing the carbon dioxide emissions due to the increase in the global warming. Besides, owing to the unavailability of clean energy sources throughout an entire the year, hybrid renewable energy systems (HRESs) are required. On other hand, the importance of optimal HRES design is to achieve a low cost with using a high green energy. Helioscope and HOMER Pro software were used to design a small grid-connected model and estimate the consumption energy for optimization. The analysis of the system showed how a grid-connected PV system with a battery backup affected on the total energy costs. In addition, the role of power supply irregularity from the national grid was highlighted by calculating the likelihood of a power outage and its impact on HRES. The results showed the internal rate of return (IRR) is 13%, and the return on investment (ROI) is around 9%. Also, the value of renewable fraction was around 63.4%. In conclusion, the proposed system was an efficient according to the energy consumption. Renewable energy sources are the best way for all countries to reduce reliance on fossil fuels while reducing pollution. Biomass as a renewable energy source is an alternative energy source that can meet energy needs and contribute to global warming and climate change reduction. Among the many renewable energy options, biomass energy has found a wide range of application areas due to its resource diversity and easy availability from various sources all year round. The supply assurance of such energy sources is based on a sustainable and effective supply chain. Simultaneous improvement of the biomass-based supply chain's economic, environmental and social performance is a key factor for optimum network design. This study has suggested a multi-objective goal programming (MOGP) model to optimize a multi-stage biomass-based sustainable renewable energy supply chain network design. The proposed MOGP model represents decisions regarding the optimal number, locations, size of processing facilities and warehouses, and amounts of biomass and final products transported between the locations. The proposed model has been applied to a real-world case study in Istanbul. In addition, sensitivity analysis has been conducted to analyze the effects of biomass availability, processing capacity, storage capacity, electricity generation capacity, and the weight of the goals on the solutions. Currently, scarcity/security of clean water and energy resources are the most serious problems worldwide. Industries use large volume of ground water and a variety of chemicals to manufacture the products and discharge large volume of wastewater into environment, which causes severe impacts on environment and public health. Urban energy systems (UESs) play a pivotal role in the consumption of clean energy and the promotion of energy cascade utilization. In the context of the construction and operation strategy of UESs with multiple complementary energy resources, a comprehensive assessment of the energy efficiency is of paramount importance. First, a multi-dimensional evaluation system with four primary indexes of energy utilization, environmental protection, system operation, and economic efficiency and 21 secondary indexes is constructed to comprehensively portray the UES. Considering that the evaluation system may contain a large number of indexes and that there is overlapping information among them, an energy efficiency evaluation method based on data processing, dimensionality reduction, integration of combined weights, and gray correlation analysis is proposed. This method can effectively reduce the number of calculations and improve the accuracy of energy efficiency assessments. Third, a demonstration project for a UES in China is presented. The energy efficiency of each scenario is assessed using six operational scenarios. The results show that Scenario 5, in which parks operate independently and investors build shared energy-storage equipment, has the best results and is best suited for green and low-carbon development. The results of the comparative assessment methods show that the proposed method provides a good energy efficiency assessment. The study examined the energy type used for household cooking in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State, Nigeria. Primary data were obtained from the 15 existing political wards in the LGA. Secondary data was obtained from the National Population Commission and the State Independent National Electoral Commission. Responses were analyzed using frequency, percentage, pie-graph and Analysis of Variance. Results showed that Kerosene with (58.9%) is the dominant energy used in the area. The world has acknowledged the importance of natural resources to compensate for energy requirements for sustainable development. Green Energy (GE) and Eco-innovations have the potential to improve air quality by reducing CO2 emissions and ensuring sustainable development, which the available literature has neglected. Therefore, we investigate the dynamic impact of green energy and environmental innovations on the USA's economic growth and CO2 emissions. We applied the quantile-on-quantile (QARDL) approach from 1990 to 2019. Our findings indicate that GE consumption mitigates CO2 emissions by increasing economic growth in different quantiles in the USA. Furthermore, Eco-innovations also contribute to economic growth by reducing CO2 emissions in different quantiles. Additionally, Bi-directional quantile causality was found between green energy consumption, economic growth, and CO2 emissions. Thus, the empirical results of the current study provide acumens for policymakers of the USA to consume green energy and use green technology and environmental innovations to counterbalance the environmental issues induced by CO2 emissions without halting economic growth and sustainable development. There is no doubt that the transition towards renewable energies is generating many changes on different continents, some with greater impacts than others, but the development that has occurred is recognized and widely accepted. The progress has been significant but it is necessary to analyze the roadmaps that have been proposed so far at the island level so that decision makers have sufficient tools to commit the much-needed economic resources to transform their energy systems into 100% renewable ones. These approaches are not simple and the hard work of the authors who have disseminated their research is recognized. The roadmaps are planned based on the energy potential available in the territories and the future energy demand. Within countries, it is important to increase the economic resources to allocate to investments in environmentally friendly renewable energies. In this review of 100% renewable smart systems on islands, the situation of the American continent, its challenges and its long-term approaches in the different geographical areas facing 2050 are analyzed. This article shows that research into the design of 100% renewable energy systems in scientific articles is fairly new but has gained more and more attention in recent years. In total, 175 articles published since 2002 were identified and analyzed. Many of these articles have a predominant focus on the electricity sector. As a general result, it has been determined that although there has been significant progress towards an orderly energy transition, this has not been consistent with the international agreements signed since the Paris Summit, which is a real challenge in complying with the new commitment of the COP28 of Dubai in tripling the participation of renewables. Energy supply policy quality is an important factor that would impact national energy security. While existing research conducted policy evaluation from the lens of performance assessment, less study has been devoted to evaluating energy supply policy from the perspective of policy making. This study takes the energy supply policy documents issued by China's central government during the '13th Five‐Year Plan' period (2016–2020) as the research sample, and pioneers the use of the extended policy modelling consistency (PMC) index model combined with the text mining methodology to construct a policy evaluation index system with the characteristics of the energy supply policy which conducts a more in‐depth quantitative evaluation of the energy supply policy documents. The results show that the average PMC index value of China's energy supply policies is 7.26, and the overall quality is high. The concerns of existing policies are mainly focused on reform and development planning, safety production management and project engineering construction, but there is still room for improvement in policy predictability, coordination of policy areas, clarity of policy basis and goals and comprehensiveness of policy tool combinations. Based on this, China should improve the comprehensiveness of its energy supply policy tool combinations in terms of policy design norm; strengthen policy predictability and coordination of policy areas in terms of policy implementation guarantee; and clarify the basis and goals of policies in terms of policy orientation enhancement, to provide a reference basis for the formulation and improvement of future energy supply policies and to realise the sustainable development of energy supply. Advancements in biological wastewater treatment with sustainable and circularity approaches have a wide scope of application. Biological wastewater treatment is widely used to remove/recover organic pollutants and nutrients from a diverse wastewater spectrum. However, conventional biological processes face challenges, such as low efficiency, high energy consumption, and the generation of excess sludge. To overcome these limitations, integrated strategies that combine biological treatment with other physical, chemical, or biological methods have been developed and applied in recent years. This review emphasizes the recent advances in integrated strategies for biological wastewater treatment, focusing on their mechanisms, benefits, challenges, and prospects. The review also discusses the potential applications of integrated strategies for diverse wastewater treatment towards green energy and resource recovery, along with low-carbon fuel production. Biological treatment methods, viz., bioremediation, electro-coagulation, electro-flocculation, electro-Fenton, advanced oxidation, electro-oxidation, bioelectrochemical systems, and photo-remediation, are summarized with respect to non-genetically modified metabolic reactions. Different conducting materials (CMs) play a significant role in mass/charge transfer metabolic processes and aid in enhancing fermentation rates. Carbon, metal, and nano-based CMs hybridization in different processes provide favorable conditions to the fermentative biocatalyst and trigger their activity towards overcoming the limitations of the conventional process. The emerging field of nanotechnology provides novel additional opportunities to surmount the constraints of conventional process for enhanced waste remediation and resource valorization. This study examines the nexus between financial expenditures within the Chinese oil business, the volatility of oil prices, and the energy-generating sector. This research examines Chinese oil and energy industry statistics from 1980 to 2020, drawing upon resource curse and energy transition theories. The results of this study are generated by using correlation analysis, quantile process estimation, autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL), and sensitivity analysis. The nexus among variables is seen across all quantiles, ranging from 22% to 81%. On the contrary, a negative association exists between oil price volatility and industrial financial expenditures, with the magnitude of the correlation ranging from 19% to 90%. Significantly, these connections exhibit statistical significance in short-term and long-term scenarios. This paper proposes implications to enhance financial expenditures in the Chinese oil business. Among them, raindrops, widely and ubiquitously distributed in nature and ambient living life, have been extensively explored and regarded as significant renewable energy carriers. Extensive efforts have been made to investigate droplet‐based electricity nanogenerators in fundamental mechanism, performance, and applications for achieving sustainable energy demands of the rapidly developing society over the past decade. In this review, we introduce the remarkable progress in this field and discuss the fundamental mechanisms of droplet energy harvesting technology for achieving high‐power generation. More significantly, a systematic review of droplet energy harvesting in different two‐phase interfaces, including liquid–solid, liquid–liquid, and liquid–gas interfaces, is provided. Finally, this survey reveals that droplet‐based electricity generators present vast potential in the power supply. To overcome the challenges faced by the energy sector, policymakers need to prioritize the development of strategic policies that promote the adoption of waste-to-energy technologies, Tidal energy, solar power systems, and wind farms. These policies should emphasize the integration of renewable energy sources into the existing energy infrastructure, ensuring a more sustainable and resilient energy supply for urban areas. The study underscores the importance of collaboration between various stakeholders, including government bodies, private sector entities, and local communities. By fostering partnerships and creating incentives, it becomes possible to mobilize resources and expertise towards the implementation of renewable energy projects. This collaboration would not only address the energy crisis but also contribute to job creation and overall socioeconomic development. Proper utilization of renewable energy resources can resolve the dilemma of energy crises in the country. According to our results, solar stood first in the overall ranking followed by Tidal, waste-to-energy, and wind energies. Solar performed better in indigenous manufacturing and development, resource potential, and technological development. Pakistan has abundant green energy resources which could be utilized by the formation of a proper policy roadmap and mitigation of policy pathways to overcome the hazardous dependence on fossil fuels for energy requirements.
