This paper studies trust in the health system via survey data collected for a sample of 231 cardiology patients residing in three public hospitals in the Mersin province, Turkey. The paper uses a diversity of statistical methods for inference and testing. These include factor analysis, clustering techniques, and Markov transition probability matrices. Four central results of the paper are the following: First, demographic and socioeconomic factors, i.e., age, sex, marital status, education, and economic status, are not related with trust in the health system. Second, patients exhibiting higher levels of general interpersonal trust and higher levels of satisfaction from healthcare services have higher levels of trust in the health system. Third, interpersonal trust in nurses and physicians is strongly and positively related with impersonal trust in hospitals and the Ministry of Health. Finally, trust and distrust in the health system exhibit remarkable persistence from past to present in both interpersonally and impersonally. These results contribute to our understanding of trust building and erosion in the health system in the context of a developing country that has experienced a systemic transformation in the recent decade. Only one-quarter of Turkish women participate in the labor force, one of the lowest rates in the world. This paper looks at the relationship between female labor force participation and economic, demographic, educational and religious factors. The main finding is that Turkey actually has more women working outside of their homes than would have been expected given Turkey's circumstances. Religion seems to be less associated with low female labor force participation in Turkey than in other countries with large Muslim populations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Turkey's energy need has been increasing in parallel with the changing socio-economic structure and its growing economy. Failure to increase energy production equally, corresponds to increasing energy demand, brings up an important issue as energy deficit. In this context, especially considering our country's energy need being above 70% and growing its dependence on foreign, the energy deficit is a very important and primary problem that have to be solved. In this study, general energy balance of Turkey is evaluated in terms of the level of production and consumption and the issue of Turkey's energy deficit is revealed in general terms.
