Machine-type communication (MTC) is one of the main enabling technologies to support various applications with diverse quality of service (QoS) requirements. Finite blocklength transmission has great potential in meeting the strict delay requirements of delay-sensitive MTC devices (MTCDs), while also causing loss of network capacity due to the decoding error probability. Aiming at this problem, we introduce uplink non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) and buffer-aided relaying to assist the finite blocklength transmission with delay requirements for improving the achievable effective capacity (EC), which is defined as the maximum short-packet constant arrival rate under specific statistical QoS constraints. To solve the EC maximization problem, we derive the closed-form expression of time allocation coefficient. Then we establish a concave lower bound of EC using successive convex approximation (SCA) for power allocation of MTCDs, and formulate a non-cooperative game based distributed power allocation algorithm for relay. Furthermore, a joint time and power allocation (JTPA) algorithm is proposed to implement joint resource allocation. Simulation results show that under finite blocklength and statistical QoS constraints, adopting buffer-aided relaying can improve EC by 41.82% compared with no-buffer relaying. This article investigates the displacement damage on AlGaN/GaN high-electron-mobility transistors (HEMTs) using the 30-MeV fluorine ions. The electrical degradation and the defects in HEMTs were examined before and after irradiation. Three defect states are detected in a deep-level transient analysis system (DLTS), including a broad surface state peak ($N_{1}$) and two bulk defect peaks ($H_{1}$ and $H_{2}$). The energy levels of these two defects are $E_{\mathrm {C}} 0.63$ eV ($H_{2}$) and $E_{\mathrm {C}} 0.91$ eV ($H_{1}$), respectively. There is a linear relationship between the concentration of $H_{1}$ and the fluorine ion fluence. The radiation damage and electrical performance degradation of AlGaN/GaN HEMTs are simulated by combining with simulation software of different methods. The calculated results are in agreement with the experimental data. The performance degradation caused by heavy ion of the device is mainly caused by the $H_{1}$ defect. The effect of defects with shallow energy level is shielded by the Fermi-level pinning in deeper energy level. Moreover, the defect distribution of GaN in AlGaN/GaN heterojunction plays a major role. Massive Machine-Type Communication (mMTC) is proposed by ITU to provide a large scale of connectivity services for billions of machine-type communications devices (MTCDs) via cellular networks. However, MTCDs are generally energy-constrained, security capability limited and short-packet transmission dominated. It has great challenges for massive MTCDs to perform short-packet transmission simultaneously while guaranteeing the confidentiality and energy efficiency of the information transmission. In this paper, we investigate the energy-efficient secure short-packet transmission of Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA) assisted mMTC networks, in which MTCDs aim to transmit secrecy messages to the destination base station via trusted relays with a passive eavesdropper present. To realize secure, reliable and energy-efficient transmission, we maximize the secrecy energy efficiency (SEE) by implementing joint relay and power level selection. Furthermore, we formulate a decentralized stateless Q-learning-based multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) algorithm for the dynamic and complex mMTC systems. The simulation results show that adopting the proposed decentralized MARL algorithm and relaying with NOMA can improve the performance of SEE while reducing information exchange overhead. In this article, we propose a novel framework on the state estimation for a class of positive real infinite-dimensional systems, which suffer from unknown actuator and sensor faults and uncertain exogenous disturbance. Four cases of fault occurrence are taken into account: single multiplicative actuator fault, single multiplicative sensor fault, simultaneous actuator and sensor faults, and single actuator fault with a dead-zone nonlinearity. We develop new adaptive laws for the estimation of fault parameters and embed the proposed laws into the infinite dimensional state observer design. Moreover, by considering the actuator fault with a dead-zone nonlinearity, an infinite dimensional observer associated with coupled parameter update laws is developed to help to complete the fault accommodation. To explore the role of hydrogen in radiation degradation of AlGaN/GaN high-electron-mobility transistors (HEMTs), the performance degradation of the hydrogen untreated and pretreated devices is compared under the exposure of carbon ions. The energy of carbon ions is chosen as 7.6 MeV, and the maximum fluence reaches 4 × 1012 cm−2. By electrical character measuring, it is found that the positive shift of the threshold voltage and the decrease of the transconductance occur after to the irradiation. Hydrogen pretreatment accelerates the shift of threshold voltage and the decrease of the transconductance. The threshold voltage of the device is almost unchanged under 1-MeV electron irradiations. This means that the displacement damage leads to the shift of the threshold voltage. The height of Schottky barrier hardly changes in the hydrogen pretreated devices, showing that the ionization defects such as the formation of interface states under the gate are not the main cause of device degradation. Deep level transient spectrum (DLTS) results show that the irradiations cause the increase of gallium vacancies, and the hydrogen pretreatment inhibits its formation. According to the first principle calculation, the existence of hydrogen in GaN layer can reduce the formation energy of and the number of charges of the defects. Multiple use cases are the dominant feature for the fifth-generation mobile communication system (5G). Enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) and ultrareliability low latency communication (uRLLC) are considered as two main scenarios. Different from the eMBB, which requires high data rate, the uRLLC requires extremely high reliability and very low latency. With multiple demands, the coexistence of eMBB and uRLLC will be an urgent challenge for the 5G networking strategy. In this article, a dynamic multiconnectivity (MC)-based joint scheduling framework with traffic steering for eMBB and uRLLC is proposed. The eMBB and uRLLC are specifically sliced with each other, which avoids the queue of uRLLC. A modified effective capacity (EC) model is proposed to measure the performance of our framework, which improves the throughput of eMBB under the guarantee of uRLLC latency. The proposed EC model turns the analytical target to the queue of users, different from the queue of base stations in traditional EC model. By a two-step optimization, the typical mixed integer nonlinear programming conducted by the EC model is decomposed into the integral programming and the nonlinear programming. Millimeter-wave (mmWave) and ultra-dense networks are two key technologies for the fifth-generation (5G) and beyond communication system. However, the ultra-dense deployment of small base stations (SBSs) might introduce severe interference to users that connect to SBSs. This paper analyzes the performance of 5G communication networks where the SBSs with coordinated beamforming, operating at mmWave frequency band and macro base stations (MBSs) operating at sub-6 GHz coexist. First, by utilizing a stochastic geometry approach, we obtain the cell association probability expressions in terms of different cell association biases, base station density ratios and probabilities of line of sight (LoS) link. Furthermore, we propose a clustering method to choose some SBSs to eliminate intra-cell interference. Then, we put forward an average distance from the Kth SBS to a user to obtain signal-to-interference-ratio (SINR) and rate coverage probability expressions. The simulation results validate the correctness of the expressions, and indicate that the optimal cardinality of coordinated SBSs increases with the density of SBSs. In addition, the relationship between the cluster size K and the average energy efficiency is obtained, which can be used to guide the coordination principle in 5G and beyond communication systems. Machine learning approaches are becoming increasingly popular to improve the efficiency of specific emitter identification (SEI). However, in most non-cooperative SEI scenarios, supervised and semi-supervised learning approaches are often incompatible due to the lack of labeled datasets. To solve this challenge, an unsupervised SEI framework is proposed based on information maximized generative adversarial networks (InfoGANs) and radio frequency fingerprint embedding (RFFE). To enhance individual discriminability, a gray histogram is first constructed according to the bispectrum extracted from the received signal before being embedded into the proposed framework. In addition to the latent class input and the RFFE, the proposed InfoGAN incorporates a priori statistical characteristics of the wireless propagation channels in the form of a structured multimodal latent vector to further improve the GAN quality. The probabilistic distribution of the bispectrum is derived in closed-form and the convergence of the InfoGAN is analyzed to demonstrate the influence of the RFFE. Numerical results indicate that the proposed framework consistently outperforms state-of-the-art algorithms for unsupervised SEI applications, both in terms of evaluation score and classification accuracy. Moving networks (MNs) with moving base stations (BSs) provide ubiquitous and constant services to cellular devices/user equipment (UEs) in 5-th generation systems. Moving BSs are mounted on top of vehicles. To describe the randomness of the BSs, a tractable stochastic geometry model for MNs is proposed. A definition of the conditional success probability and meta distribution (MD) of the signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) for MNs is proposed. The MD is used to assess the benefits of MNs. In single-tier MNs with high mobility, we determine the moments of the conditional success probability given the point process for the calculation of the MD and the mean local delay. The results show that the mean local delay is finite and the variance is reduced to 0. A closed-form approximation of the variance is proposed for general mobility levels. Using the approximated variance, we propose a beta approximation of the MD. The single-tier model is then extended to a two-tier heterogeneous MN model. Tractable expressions of the mean success probability and the variance for both the overall network and the typical UE in each tier are obtained. Confronted with the challenge of high performance for applications and the restriction of hardware resources for field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), partial dynamic reconfiguration technology is anticipated to accelerate the reconfiguration process and alleviate the device shortage. In this paper, we propose an integrated optimization framework for task partitioning, scheduling, and floorplanning on partially dynamically reconfigurable FPGAs. The partition, schedule, and floorplan of the tasks are represented by the partitioned sequence triple (P-ST) (PS, QS, RS), where (PS, QS) is a hybrid nested sequence pair for representing the spatial and temporal partitions, as well as the floorplan, and RS is the partitioned dynamic configuration order of the tasks. The floorplanning and scheduling of task modules can be computed from the P-ST in ${O}$ (${n}^{{2}}$) time. To integrate the exploration of the scheduling and floorplanning design space, we use a simulated annealing-based search engine and elaborate a perturbation method, where a randomly chosen task module is removed from the partition sequence triple and then reinserted into a proper position selected from all the ${O}$ (${n}^{ {3}}$) possible combinations of partition, schedule and floorplan. We also prove a sufficient and necessary condition for the feasibility of the partitioning of tasks and scheduling of task configurations, and derive conditions for the feasibility of the insertion points in a P-ST. The 5th-generation (5G) mobile networks and beyond need to support massive machine-type communications (MTC) devices with limited available radio resources. In this paper, we study the power-domain non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) technology to support energy-efficient massive MTC networks, where MTC devices exchange information using sporadic and low-rate short packets. We investigate the subchannel allocation and power control policy to maximize the achievable effective energy efficiency (EE) for uplink NOMA-based massive MTC networks, taking into account of short-packet communication characteristics. We model the subchannel allocation problem as a multi-agent Markov decision process and propose an efficient Q-learning algorithm to solve it. Furthermore, we obtain the optimal transmission power policy by approximating the achievable effective rate of uplink NOMA-based short packet communications. In this paper, we consider the physical layer security for non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA)-based uplink massive machine type communication (mMTC) networks. Aiming at the maximization of the system secrecy capacity, with the presence of eavesdroppers, we propose a joint power and sub-channel allocation for secrecy capacity (JPSASC) algorithm to obtain the suboptimal solution of the joint problem. Particularly, the power allocation problem is modeled as a non-cooperative game with a distributed perspective, where each MTC device selfishly optimizes its power allocation over multi-channels to maximize its own secrecy capacity. The existence of Nash equilibrium (NE) is proved and a sufficient condition to ensure the uniqueness of NE is given. Moreover, the distributed power allocation and preference secrecy capacity maximum (PSCM) algorithms are proposed for power allocation and sub-channel allocation problem, respectively. Simulation results verify that JPSASC algorithm outperforms other algorithms in maximizing secrecy capacity. At present, pulse widths of passively Q-switched mid-infrared lasers at ${\sim }2.8 {\mu }\text{m}$ have been limited to be at least several hundreds of nanoseconds. In this letter, by configuring a compact laser resonator, we report on diode-pumped continuous-wave and passively Q-switched mid-infrared Er:YSGG lasers. Laser emission at 2797 nm is achieved with a maximum output power of 0.63 W and slope efficiency of 13.9% in continuous-wave mode. Using polycrystalline Fe:ZnSe as saturable absorber, the passively Q-switched operation is also realized with the narrowest pulse width of about 14.6 ns, which is believed to be the shortest pulse for passively Q-switched mid-infrared lasers. We report on the growth and laser operation of Tm:Lu3Al5O12 (Tm:LuAG) single crystal grown via the micro-pulling-down ($\mu $ -PD) method, for the first time to the best of our knowledge. Spectral properties (absorption and fluorescence) and fluorescence lifetime of the Tm:LuAG crystal were measured at room temperature. Using a 790-nm diode laser as pump source, continuous-wave laser operation of the Tm:LuAG crystal was demonstrated with a maximum output power of 2.88 W and a slope efficiency of about 39.1% at 2016 nm. Passively $Q$ -switched laser operation was also investigated using Cr:ZnSe as saturable absorber. The maximum average output power reached about 0.53 W with the shortest pulse width of 54.3 ns and a pulse energy of $21.9~\mu \text{J}$. In this letter, molybdenum ditelluride (MoTe2), a new member of the transition metal dichalcogenides family, has been characterized and fabricated as an optical modulator for the development of broadband wavelength tunable laser using a Tm3+-doped CaYAlO4crystal as a laser gain medium. The maximum average output power reaches 0.75 W with the shortest pulse width of about $0.69~\mu \text{s}$ and repetition rate of 70.9 kHz, which leads to a pulse energy of about $10.58~\mu \text{J}$ and peak power of 15.3 W. Keeping the MoTe2optical modulator inside the laser resonator and at the same time introducing an undoped YAG for wavelength tuning, wavelength tunable passively Q-switched laser operation with a wavelength range of about 112 nm has been demonstrated. This letter experimentally verifies the potential of the novel 2D material MoTe2as an optical modulator. At the same time, this letter paves the way toward the realizations of simple and compact wavelength tunable pulsed laser sources based on broadband 2D materials saturable absorbers. We report on continuous-wave and passively Q-switched Tm: Y2SiO5 (YSO) crystal lasers. For continuous-wave operation, a maximum output power of 3.23 W is achieved at 1969.8 nm with slope efficiency of 34.3%. The results represent the best laser performance that ever obtained in Tm3+-doped oxyorthosilicate materials. Effective continuous-wave lasers have been also obtained at 1976.0, 1972.9, and 2044.6 nm by using differently coated output couplers. Using Cr: ZnSe saturable absorber, passively Q-switched Tm: YSO lasers are realized at 1944 and 2022 nm, for the first time to our knowledge. The maximum average output power has reached 0.74 W with pulsewidth of 78.3 ns and the corresponding pulse energy is 71.8 μJ. Denser deployments of heterogeneous networks (HetNets) lead to more frequent handovers, which results in a decline of user experience as well as heavy signaling overheads to the network. Therefore, the study on handover is of great importance especially in dense HetNets. In this paper, we focus on the analysis of cross-tier handover from the macro cell tier to the small cell tier, which shows the highest handover failure rate in current standards and industry studies. Using the stochastic geometry, we propose an analytical model for the cross-tier handover processes in the HetNet. Based on the derived analytical model, the closed-form expressions for the key handover performance metrics, including the handover rate, handover failure rate, and ping-pong rate, are deduced as functions of the base station density, time to trigger and user mobility. Simulation results verify the accuracy of the proposed analytical model and closed-form theoretical analyses, which provide guidance for the deployments of HetNets and corresponding handover strategies. In 3-D integrated circuits (3-D ICs), through silicon via (TSV) is a critical technique to provide vertical connections. However, the yield and reliability challenge of TSV in industry is one of key obstacles to adopt the 3-D ICs technology. Various fault-tolerance structures by using additional spare TSVs (s-TSVs) to repair faulty functional TSVs (f-TSVs) have been proposed in literature for yield and reliability enhancement. However, these structures are formed in standard cell placement stage where all the f-TSVs are already placed. In reality, since the s-TSVs can be only inserted into the whitespace, the quality of the generated repair solution is strongly dependent on the whitespace distribution. In this paper, we propose an efficient TSV planning and repair framework in floorplanning stage, which takes nonuniform TSV distribution and clustered TSV defect-distribution into account. The proposed framework mainly consists of four stages: 1) a whitespace redistribution algorithm that uses a probability-based strategy to make the whitespace distribution more reasonable for the f-TSV planning. Subsequently, a convex-cost flow-based model for f-TSV allocation considering the fault clustering; 2) a top-down globally partitioning combined with a bottom-up locally merging to partition f-TSVs into groups with minimum hardware cost; 3) the min-cost max-flow algorithm for s-TSV allocation with minimum wirelength overhead; and 4) an integer linear programming-based model to form a fault-tolerance structure with minimum multiplexer delay overhead. We report here for the first time on the diode-pumped continuous-wave laser operation of an a-cut Tm:CaYAlO4 (CYAO) crystal in a two-mirror laser configuration at about 1850 nm, which is the shortest laser wavelength ever achieved with this material, with a maximum output power of 0.88 W. Using a MoS2 saturable absorber deposited directly onto the surface of the output coupler, the Tm:CYAO laser is then operated in the Q-switched mode with a maximum output power of 0.49 W and the narrowest pulse width of 0.48~\mu \texts . Device-to-device (D2D) communications have been proposed as a promising technology to improve network capacity and user experiences. In this letter, we make theoretical analyses on D2D mode selection with user mobility. Using the stochastic geometry, we deduced that the D2D communication range can be well represented by biased circles with varying radius. Besides, a tractable analytical framework considering both absolute movement and relative movement for mode selection in moving D2D scenarios is presented. Under the proposed model, the closed-form expressions of D2D mode transition rate and D2D mode residence time are derived, which are the key parameters for moving D2D mode selection performance. This letter investigates the outage performance in a full-duplex relay (FDR) channel that adopts an amplify-and-forward (AF) protocol. We provide a new closed-form expression for the outage probability that captures the joint effect of residual self-interference (RSI) and a direct link. In addition, when the processing delay of the relay is larger than 1, which is often the case in practice, the proposed closed-form outage performance expression still applies. Finally, all the theoretical results are validated through numerical simulations.
