Distributed photovoltaic (PV) in the distribution network accounted for an increasing proportion of the distribution network, and the power quality of the distribution network of the power quality problem is more and more significant. In this paper, the voltage regulation methods for low-voltage distribution networks containing high-penetration PV are investigated. First, the working principles of the four voltage control methods are introduced: energy storage system configuration, regulating the reactive power output of PV inverters, restricting the active power output of PV, adjusting the switching positions of on-load regulator trap changer and distribution network reconfiguration, and then, in combination with the recent related research, the optimization of each method is compared horizontally with its respective concerns and characteristics. The optimization of each method is compared horizontally with the recent studies to find out the focus and characteristics of each method, and the shortcomings of each method are explored. Coordinated voltage control through multiple flexibility resources has become the mainstream voltage regulation scheme, and distribution network voltage regulation is considered from the perspective of flexibility resources. The three types of flexibility resources, namely, source, network, and storage, have been widely used in distribution network voltage regulation. Although load-side resources have become one of the main regulation resources of the new type of power system, the current study introduces less about the participation of load-side flexibility resources in voltage regulation of LV distribution networks and advancing the application of load-side resources in voltage regulation of LV distribution networks is the focus of future research. Then, the important role of load-side flexibility resources in voltage regulation is described in three parts, namely, the important role of load-side resources, the development trend, and the suggestions for promoting the coordination of source-network-load-storage flexibility resources, aiming to promote the application of load-side resources in voltage regulation in LV distribution networks, and the suggestions and programs are proposed for the technological challenges faced by voltage regulation. In the context of today's new power system emphasizing the interaction of source, network, load, and storage, new technologies and methods for solving voltage problems in LV distribution networks are prospected, with a view to providing certain reference value for the actual operation and optimization of distribution network systems. In this paper, a sample voltage dead-beat control based on differentiative voltage prediction (DVP) and switching-cycle extension (SCE) is presented to achieve optimal transient response for DC-DC converters under discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) operation. Firstly, to improve load transient response, a DVP method is proposed to estimate the load. With the estimated load, the controller realizes load current feedforward and thus improves the transient response with a wide load range. Secondly, an SCE strategy is proposed to enlarge the output current range and output voltage slew rate, both of which have limited value under conventional digital pulse width modulation (DPWM). When the output current reaches the limited value, the proposed strategy increases the switching cycle to enlarge the current range without losing DCM operation. Finally, combining DVP with SCE, the converter not only achieves optimal response in large signal transients, but also doubles the load range in DCM operation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The distorted supply voltage degrades the control performance of a unified power quality conditioner (UPQC). This problem causes incorrect calculations in the harmonic identification and reference signal generation processes. This paper proposes a modified harmonic identification of the UPQC. The reference compensating current calculation for the shunt active power filter (shunt APF) is developed using the sliding window with the Fourier analysis (SWFA) method. In addition, the variable power angle control (PAC) is applied to operate the reference signal generation of the series APF and the shunt APF of the UPQC. Under the distorted voltage and nonlinear load conditions, the proposed approach can provide accurate reference compensating signals and successfully share the load reactive power compensation between the shunt APF and the series APF. In this work, a three-phase, three-wire power system with linear and nonlinear loads was implemented. The proposed method was validated using the processor-in-the-loop technique on an eZdsp™ F28335 board and the MATLAB/Simulink program. The testing results indicated that SWFA has excellent filtering performance and enhances harmonic identification compared to the operation without any filter or with low pass filters (LPF). With the proposed approach, the percentage of total harmonic distortion of voltage and current could be maintained within the IEEE519-2022 standard, and the magnitude of the RMS voltage across the load was in the recommended range specified by ANSI C84.1-2016. Distributed Energies Resources (DERs) can be controlled for supporting the voltage regulation at nodes of an Active Distribution Network (ADN) where they are connected. However, since the ADN is a Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) system with coupled dynamics, the controller of a DER mutually interacts with all other controllers through the distribution lines. These interactions lead to operating conflicts which may drive the ADN to work close to its voltage stability boundaries. To achieve a stable voltage regulation without new investment in the existing ADNs, the present paper proposes a straightforward decentralized design of the multi-loop controllers based on the property of integral controllability. The main feature of the method is that the design problem can be expressed by a single parameter designed both for reducing the effects of the undesired coupling and for increasing the degree of robust stability in the presence of parameter uncertainty in the matrix plant. Simulation studies are developed to illustrate the design result and the performance achieved under different operating conditions. In this paper, a new modulation strategy based on the carrier-based switching strategy for the non-square direct matrix converters (MC) is proposed to control the active power of distributed generation (DG) units. In this strategy, the active power of DGs is controlled by the central input current control of the non-square direct MC independent from the voltage and frequency. Conventionally, each DG has a converter, and for supplying a load with N number of DGs, N number of converters are needed and each converter has its own modulation switching and control strategy to control the power output of each DG. Needless to say, in a microgrid with N number of DGs, the control strategy of each converter has more complex structure than that of a microgrid with one converter, and surely the former strategy entails more volume and price. Using the proposed converter in this paper, it is possible to supply a load with N number of DGs through one converter. Also, the power outputs of all DGs are controlled by a central control strategy. The proposed central control strategy is described and simulated for a typical microgrid. Experimental and simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed converter and the proposed strategy. This paper addresses the interactions among the control loops of voltage-sourced converters (VSCs) embedded in high-voltage direct current (HVDC) systems and the impact of these interactions on the performance of individual control loops. Furthermore, this paper proposes a method to design the individual control loops, rather than the interconnected control system, such that the overall system stability is ensured in the presence of interactions. This paper addresses three aspects of the impact of control loop interactions on the overall control system of the VSC including stability, transient response, and steady-state response. To illustrate the impact of interactions on the VSC small-signal stability, stability regions of the interconnected control loops are obtained and compared against those of the various individual control loops. Then, a novel formulation of the VSC stability criterion is presented, and the small-gain theorem is utilized to determine a range of stabilizing gains for the interconnected control system. Moreover, new indices using the infinity norm are introduced to evaluate the impact of interactions on the transient response of the VSC. Finally, the DC gain of a certain set of transfer functions is used to assess the impact of control loops interactions on the set-point tracking capability of the VSC. The introduced indices along with time-domain simulations show that the transient response of the d-axis control loops is not impacted by the interactions, whereas that of the q-axis control loops is significantly impacted by the interactions. Small‐signal modelling of modular multilevel converters (MMC) has drawn lots of attention recently. Existing research mainly studies MMC terminal impedances by injecting corresponding AC‐side and DC‐side external small‐signal perturbations. This paper focuses on the MMC internal small‐signal perturbations, that is, perturbations in control signal and their effect. There are two kinds, that is, differential‐mode and common‐mode, of internal small‐signal perturbations, which influence MMC external and internal state variables, respectively. Then, the existing MMC small‐signal model is improved. With its help, accurate MMC control‐signal to state‐variables transfer functions are established, which can aid precise MMC controller analysis and performance optimization. In this paper, an analysis of MMC phase capacitor voltage regulation control is demonstrated as an example. The stability can be precisely ascertained based on the obtained transfer function. The effect of parameter variation of the proportional‐integral controller is also studied. Moreover, an additional compensator is introduced in the existing control loop to attenuate resonance peaks in the transfer function, which mitigates the large voltage overshoot and makes the transient state much smoother. The predictive current control method of permanent magnet synchronous motor has the advantages of fast dynamic response and easy digital implementation, so more attention has been paid to it. When the motor operates in a high-speed condition, the switching frequency is relatively low, the carrier ratio is low, and the rotor angle varies greatly within a control cycle, resulting in a large error in the traditional liner approximation prediction model and inaccuracy of the voltage control quantity calculation, which leads to the deterioration of the predictive current control effect. At the same time, the output harmonic of the three-phase current increases, which affects the stable operation of the motor. In this paper, we study the causes of the large errors in the prediction model based on the traditional linear approximation and phase current fluctuation of the permanent magnet synchronous motor under high speed and low carrier-ratio conditions. Based on the improvement of the prediction model and modulation, a new control strategy of variable switching frequency deadbeat predictive current control is proposed. The control method proposed in this paper improves the dynamic and steady-state performance of the motor, under the condition that the carrier ratio does not increase and reduces the fluctuation of the output current of the motor. The modern power grid features the high penetration of power converters, which widely employ a phase-locked loop (PLL) for grid synchronization. However, it has been pointed out that PLL can give rise to small-signal instabilities under weak grid conditions. This problem can be potentially resolved by operating the converters in grid-forming mode, namely, without using a PLL. Nonetheless, it has not been theoretically revealed how the placement of grid-forming converters enhances the small-signal stability of power systems integrated with large-scale PLL-based converters. This paper aims at filling this gap. Based on matrix perturbation theory, we explicitly demonstrate that the placement of grid-forming converters is equivalent to increasing the power grid strength and thus improving the small-signal stability of PLL-based converters. Furthermore, we investigate the optimal locations to place grid-forming converters by increasing the smallest eigenvalue of the weighted and Kron-reduced Laplacian matrix of the power network. The analysis in this paper is validated through high-fidelity simulation studies on a modified two-area test system and a modified 39-bus test system. This paper potentially lays the foundation for understanding the interaction between PLL-based (i.e., grid-following) converters and grid-forming converters, and coordinating their placements in future converter-dominated power systems. This paper analytically examines how the condition of weak grid connection affects the torsional sub-synchronous oscillations (SSOs) induced by a grid-connected DFIG in a power system. The examination focuses on the SSO mode of grid-connected DFIG, which is dominated by the phase locked loop (PLL) or DC voltage control. Theoretical analysis is carried out to prove that the condition of weak grid connection amplifies the impact of modal resonance between the DFIG and torsional dynamics of synchronous generators. The amplifying effect of weak grid connection exhibits as the decrease of damping of SSO mode of DFIG and increase of the associated residue when the grid connection weakens. Consequently, the DFIG is more likely to induce torsional SSOs under the condition of weak grid connection, leading to system instability in the worst case. Analytical examination presented in the paper reveals the mechanism about how the condition of weak grid connection plays a key role for the DFIG to induce the torsional SSOs. An example multi-machine power system with the grid-connected DFIG is presented. This paper presents a novel power flow control system for a remote military microgrid with hybrid energy storage. A combination of batteries and supercapacitors (SCs) is managed by the novel control system to increase the battery life by redirecting the higher frequency current that would have to flow in the battery if SCs were not present. This paper offers a practical solution to manage the SC current and ensure that the SCs are never overcharged or commanded to support the system when they are discharged to the lower operating limit chosen. The new controller allows the independent selection of the low-pass filter parameter and the number of SCs. By making the most out of these two degrees of freedom, we investigate different configurations, identifying the one achieving the highest cash flow for the overall system. A modified conceptual structure of MUPFC for controlling the voltage sags in interconnected power systems is presented in this paper. For this purpose, the conventional UPFC is distributed through several series and one shunt converters. By this way, the higher frequency components are removed which only the 3th-order is remained. Also, by using single-phase series converters, better dynamic performances with proper reliability are provided. So, there are more redundancy possibilities through different operating conditions. The proposed single-phase series converters are floated from the ground which there is not required high-voltage protections equipment through transmission lines resulted in lower initial and operational costs compared to conventional UPFCs. Real-time ability of the proposed scheme is investigated through a 3-phase transmission line stressed by fault events in which by distributing the series converters through the line, the ability of MUPFC through time domain simulations is evaluated. This paper deals with the stability analysis and enhancement in the AC‐microgrid system comprising parallel‐operated voltage‐source inverters (VSIs) supplying an active‐load. The active‐load behaves such as a constant power load from the AC‐side. In the paper, two models for the active‐load modeling in the AC microgrid are considered: (i) simple model in which the active‐load is modeled as an ideal current source, (ii) detailed model in which all dynamics of the active‐load converter and related controllers are taken into account. The main findings and contribution of this paper are as follows. (a) All linearized state equations of the study system are extracted and transferred into a unified common dq‐reference frame, and then, small‐signal stability of the study system is carried out in the common reference frame by using the simple and detailed models of the active‐load. (b) It is shown that the simple model of the active‐load, as a current source, leads to more pessimistic results in comparison to the active‐load detailed model. (c) Impacts of the active‐load power and bandwidth of the active‐load voltage control loop on the system stability are examined. (d) Control of the generation‐side VSIs is modified and a stabilizing approach, called generation‐side virtual capacitor, is proposed for stabilizing the system under high active‐load penetration. Megatrends, such as the proliferation of distributed generation, electrification, and the appearance of aggregator companies, put the low voltage power grids under intense pressure. Since the network infrastructure developments cannot keep up with the trends, distribution system operators turned to alternative solutions. Smart grid assets, such as on-load tap-changing distribution transformers or serial low voltage regulators, are promising solutions. However, the energy transition cannot be handled with the network expansive on the distribution level. Control centers are predicted to expand to this voltage level in the near future, and distribution system state estimation could be an enabler of all functionalities. On the low voltage level, data scarcity is a great challenge in observability; therefore, research must focus on the creation of pseudomeasurements and integration of available data sources. This paper examines the inclusion of smart assets from the conceptual point to the application on two sites, based on data from operational environments, both with a pseudomeasurement and an integrated metering point approach. In a stand‐alone microgrid, voltage control is an important issue to keep the grid balanced under unbalanced load conditions. The other important challenges in microgrids include handling the neutral to the ground voltage (NGV) as well as total harmonic distortion (THD) under its limits due to the IEEE standards. A four‐leg inverter is the best choice for a three‐phase transformerless inverter employed in a stand‐alone microgrid. To control the inverter, sliding mode control (SMC) is a well‐known nonlinear control system to handle unbalanced and nonlinear load conditions as it can provide high sinusoidal load voltage with high performance and fast dynamic response. This paper proposes an enhanced SMC control method for minimizing the NGV and THD in addition to compensating for unbalanced load voltage conditions simultaneously in a three‐phase four‐leg inverter. In order to verify the results of the proposed method, simulation results with MATLAB/Simulink are presented to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed SMC under various load conditions. The proposed method provided fast dynamic response and fixed switching frequency. Further, a significant reduction occurred in NGV and THD. The simulation results of this method compared with the MPC method indicated the better performance of the proposed method against the unbalanced and nonlinear various load conditions. This paper presents a study of a new topology of a DC–DC converter titled double quadratic boost non-isolated. This converter has high static gain and proposes to reduce the voltage stress on the switches, where the maximum voltage value at each switch is equal to half of the total output voltage. The paper first presents the theoretical analysis of the converter operating in open loop. The objective of the work is the mathematical modeling and control strategy of the converter, as well as validation through closed loop experimental results. In addition, we present the results of practical tests to demonstrate the operation of the converter, such as the experimental static gain curve, the practical efficiency of the converter, and the output voltage control, as well as the capacitor voltage swing control. As the inverter-based generation replaces the conventional synchronous generators, it may also need to fill in the missing ancillary service support. One of these ancillary services is dynamic reactive power provision and voltage control. This paper analyzes optimal strategy of reactive and active fault-current support of the inverter-based generation leading to fast voltage recovery of the system. For the purpose of the analysis, new ramping active current controller able to emulate different behavior of active current injection is proposed. By optimizing its parameters for different case studies of the system, the conclusions about optimal behavior of the inverter based generation with respect to system parameters and operating conditions are drawn. It is observed that the optimal combination of active and reactive fault-current is the most sensitive to the dynamic load component penetration levels in the system. With the increasing penetration levels, the significance of active fault-current injection increases. The results show that with higher penetration levels of dynamic load component in the heavy load areas, the ramping down of the inverter-based generation active fault-current results in slower voltage recovery of the system. In this paper, the application and design of a high-power factor isolated Ćuk converter-based LED driver are realized for up to 50 W power. For the power switch of the PFC isolated Ćuk converter, traditional Si and silicon carbide (SiC) MOSFETs, which are wide bandgap semiconductors, are used and compared. The application is conducted using a dsPIC30F4011 microcontroller including PI voltage control. A current sensor is added to limit maximum current. Moreover, PI control parameters are selected by genetic algorithm to avoid a complex mathematical procedure for controller design. The power LED model derived in this paper is used for the PI parameter selection process. In addition, the input side inductor of the converter is operated in discontinuous conduction mode, and the switching frequency of the power switch is 57 kHz. With the experimental setup, the total harmonic distortion (THD) of grid voltage and current, power LED voltage and current, switch voltage, and input side inductor current are shown for both the SiC and Si MOSFETs and compared. It is concluded from the application that the SiC-based driver gives better results than the Si-based driver on the basis of THD and efficiency. The economic and technical requirements of current changes in the distribution system are reflected in the use of all available resources and the activation of mechanisms for local use of flexibility. Local flexibility markets are evolving and face numerous obstacles for which appropriate solutions must be found. The local flexibility market will be complemented by the development of a local flexibility register, which will contain all relevant information about the flexibility assets necessary for the efficient operation of the local flexibility market. In this paper, interpretation and quantification of the flexibility sources location on the flexibility service in the distribution grid is given. The information is derived from power flow simulation results and finally written down in the form of line coefficients, which are determined by applying the least squares method to the power flow results. We have developed a Python-based simulator to perform the methodology to determine the information and test it on a realistic medium voltage distribution grid in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This paper confirms the approximate linearity of the active power changes on the demand side to the line load and to the voltage at the nodes for a given operating condition of the distribution grid. Locally-active memristors blessed with an edge-of-chaos domain, which can be destabilized for generating action potentials, are natural candidates for emulating biological neurons. Pinpointing the edge-of-chaos domain, where neuromorphic behaviors may occur, is important for studying neuromorphic dynamics of memristors. This paper proposes a short-cut method for locating the edge-of-chaos domains in two kinds of generic memristors, and in several typical memristive 1-port circuits using only the Jacobian matrix in terms of their equations. Taking the Chua Corsage Memristor (CCM) and several CCM-based memristive 1-port circuits as examples, we verify the proposed new methods, and calculates their edge-of-chaos domains. Also, we carry out a complete classification of all the parameter regions of the CCM and several CCM-based memristive 1-port circuits, namely the locally-passive, locally-active but unstable, and edge-of-chaos domains, under both voltage and frequency control. Near the calculated edge-of-chaos domain, we uncover some new neuromorphic behaviors. To confirm the physical interpretations and predictions of the edge-of-chaos theorem, this paper presents an inexpensive electronic circuit realization of the complete set of equations defining the CCM using only off-the-shelf circuit components. When this poor-man's memristor is connected to various linear passive R, L, C circuits, and a battery, the resulting circuit can be tuned to generate action potentials, and a garden variety of neuromorphic phenomena, including chaos. But the highlight of this paper is reserved for the CCM itself where the world's first oscilloscope picture of a contiguous self-intersecting triple-branch DC V–I curve of the CCM is displayed in real time. The maximum efficiency point of an inductive power link depends on its load power consumption and the distance between the transmitter and the receiver. Matching networks (MNs) and adjustable ac–dc converters have been proposed in the literature as a means to achieve and track this maximum efficiency point. Most of the published papers in inductive power transmission only use one of these two methods without considering a joint design. In this paper, we analyze and compare both methods proposing a general joint design which exploits the advantages of each method. A proof-of-concept system was developed following the proposed flow, built and tested. This system, with a regulated output voltage, presents improvements in measured efficiencies of up to 80% (from 9.2% to 16%) at the largest distances, thus maximizing the distance range. The same approach can be used to maximize output dc voltage, instead of the link efficiency. The proposed system using our designed MN achieved a maximum output voltage that was 90% higher (from 1.36 to 2.59 V) than the case where only a step-up converter was used. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

New methods for extending the tunability range in second-order voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs) with quadrature outputs are presented and compared in this paper. Linear dependence is the most common type of relation between frequency of oscillations (FO) and control voltage (or current) in communication subsystems (VCOs). However, there are other nonlinear types of dependencies that are advantageous (quadratic and cubic) and should be further studied. Positions of controllable blocks within the structure of the oscillator (providing parameters influencing time constants of integrators) in two scenarios are studied together. The impact of controllable parameters of these additional elements on FO as well as on produced output signal levels is evaluated. The simulation and experimental results are shown to confirm expected behavior of solutions in the case of the quadratic type of control of FO. Nowadays, standard linear control offers a tunability ratio 10:1 (for the same ratio of parameters that control the FO) only. However, in this paper, the experimental tests yield a tunability ratio 80:1 (50 kHz–4 MHz) for dc control voltage within the range 0.175–1.75 V (10:1). The presented approach is very beneficial for low supply voltage systems requiring a wide range of tunability and also for utilizing active devices having limited range of adjustability of their controllable parameters while still requiring wide tunability. The integration of distributed generation (DG) units into distribution networks (DNs) has brought about several operational challenges, including voltage issues and increased power loss. Energy storage equipped soft open points (E-SOPs) can accurately and flexibly control active and reactive power flows to address these problems. Additionally, the photovoltaic (PV) inverter and the network reconfiguration (NR) play a significant role in voltage control by adjusting the reactive power and the topology of the DN, respectively. However, due to differences in response times, there is a lack of systematic coordination between NR and the inverters of the E-SOP and PV. This paper proposes a multi-time-scale voltage control model that includes day-ahead NR scheduling, inter-day droop control optimization of the PV and E-SOP, and real-time local droop control. Considering the uncertainties of renewable DG outputs and loads, a robust optimization method is used in the day-ahead stage to obtain a reliable network structure. The inherent second harmonic power pulse in single-phase grid-connected rectifiers leads to a noticeable output voltage ripple and thus results in the degradation of the system. A novel second harmonic suppression control is introduced in this paper to address this issue. The key point of the proposed control lies in the real-time prediction of the phase-shifted full-bridge (PSFB) converter's desired duty cycle through accurate PSFB converter modeling. This paper proposes a dual-loop discrete-time adaptive control (DDAC) method for three-phase PWM rectifiers, which considers inductance-parameter-mismatched and DC load disturbances. A discrete-time model of the three-phase PWM rectifier is established using the forward Euler discretization method, and a dual-loop discrete-time feedback linearization control (DDFLC) is given. Based on the DDFLC, the DDAC is designed. Firstly, an adaptive inductance disturbance observer (AIDO) based on the gradient descent method is proposed in the current control loop. The AIDO is used to estimate lump disturbances caused by mismatched inductance parameters and then compensate for these disturbances in the current controller, ensuring its strong robustness to inductance parameters. Secondly, a load parameter adaptive law (LPAL) based on the discrete-time Lyapunov theory is proposed for the voltage control loop. The LPAL estimates the DC load parameter in real time and subsequently adjusts it in the voltage controller, achieving DC load adaptability. Finally, simulation and experimental results show that the DDAC exhibits better steady and dynamic performances, less current harmonic content than the DDFLC and the dual-loop discrete-time PI control (DDPIC), and a stronger robustness to inductance parameters and DC load disturbances. Here, a grid voltage sensorless control of an LCL‐filtered LC‐tuned single‐phase shunt hybrid active power filter (HAPF) is proposed, which offers high‐quality harmonic current compensation with low hardware requirements. An estimation algorithm replaces the grid voltage sensor and associated circuitry to reduce the size and cost. This paper presents a straightforward and accurate modelling of the suggested structure and its filtering characteristics, followed by a comprehensive yet simple parameter design procedure. An inherent damping technique that uses digital delay rather than virtual or physical damping resistors eliminates the need for additional sensors or extra power losses. As part of the design, a high‐quality reference current is generated for the filter, which is then effectively tracked using a proportional controller with sufficient bandwidth and stability margin. An experimental prototype is implemented to verify the theoretical results, and several steady‐state and transient waveforms are reported to demonstrate the superior performance of the HAPF. A machine learning‐based optimized droop method is suggested here to simultaneously reduce the production cost (PC) and power line losses (PLL) for a class of direct current (DC) microgrids (MGs). Traditionally, a communication‐less technique known as the hybrid droop method has been employed to decrease PC and PLL in DC MGs. However, achieving the desired reduction in either PC or PLL requires arbitrary adjustments of weighting coefficients for each distributed generator in the conventional hybrid droop method. To address this challenge, this paper introduces a systematic approach that capitalizes on the benefits of artificial intelligence to accurately predict both the PC and PLL in a DC MG. Furthermore, an optimization technique relying on the gradient descendent method is employed to independently optimize both PC and PLL for each scenario. The transition from traditional to renewable energy sources is a critical issue in current energy-generation systems, which aims to address climate change and the increased demand for energy. This shift, however, imposes additional burdens on control systems to maintain power system stability and quality within predefined limits. Addressing these challenges, this paper proposes an innovative Modified Hybrid Fractional-Order (MHFO) automatic voltage regulator (AVR) equipped with a fractional-order tilt integral and proportional derivative with a filter plus a second-order derivative with a filter FOTI-PDND2N2 controller. This advanced controller combines the benefits of a (FOTI) controller, known for enhancing dynamic performance and steady-state response, with a (PDND2N2) controller to improve system robustness and adaptability. The proposed MHFO controller stands out with its nine tunable parameters, providing more extensive control options than the conventional three-parameter PID controller and the five-parameter FOPID controller. Furthermore, a recent optimization approach using a growth optimizer (GO) has been formulated and applied to optimally adjust the MHFO controller's parameters simultaneously. The performance of the proposed AVR based on the MHFO-GO controller is scrutinized by contrasting it with various established and developed optimization algorithms. In large-scale wind farms, the voltage fluctuations caused by the uncertainty of wind speed at the turbine terminals pose a pressing challenge. This article presents a localized voltage control strategy tailored toward rapid adjustments in turbine terminal voltage in wind turbine generators. Based on relative voltage observation, this strategy achieves voltage coordination between the high and low ends of the transformer in wind turbine generators. Firstly, the overall structure of the wind farm and the characteristics of terminal voltage are analyzed. Secondly, the principles and feasibility of the relative voltage control strategy are examined. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy is validated through simulation results from a specific wind farm. The results demonstrate its capability to achieve a fast and stable voltage dynamic response within the wind farm based on local information, thus mitigating the risk of voltage out of limit. Active Distribution Networks are Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) systems with coupled dynamics, which cause interactions among the control loops of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs). This undesired effect leads to performance degradation of voltage control. To mitigate the effects of this unavoidable coupling, the present paper proposes a systematic design procedure based on the analysis of the interaction's sources. In detail, each DER is equipped with a double-loop PI to control the active and reactive power output of the voltage source converter, which connects the DER to the network's node. Furthermore, to guarantee ancillary services, the two loops are coupled by a simple mechanism of cooperation of the active power to voltage regulation realized by a filtered droop law. To achieve voltage regulation with reduced loop interactions, the PI parameters and the filter's pulse are designed according to a procedure with two sequential steps based on the Internal Model Control (IMC) technique. Simulation studies are finally presented to demonstrate that the proposed design method achieves both reduction of the loop interaction and robust voltage control in the presence of model parameter uncertainty in the MIMO plant, modeling various operating conditions of the ADN, including a step connection of large loads, renewable energy source variations, and changes in the substation transformer ratio. To improve the complexity of the chaotic system and achieve the effective transmission of image information, in this paper, a five-dimensional memristive chaotic system with cubic nonlinear terms is constructed, which has four pairs of symmetric coordinates. First, the cubic nonlinear memristive chaotic system is analyzed using the Lyapunov exponential map, bifurcation map, and attractor phase diagram. The experimental results show that under four pairs of symmetric coordinates, the system exists not only parameter-dependent symmetric rotational coexisting attractor and transient chaotic phenomena but also exists super-multistationary with alternating chaotic cycles dependent on the initial value of the memristor. Then, it is proposed to add a constant term to the linear state variable to explore the effect of the offset increment of the linear state variable on the system in four pairs of symmetric coordinates, while circuit simulation of the five-dimensional chaotic system is carried out using Simulink to verify its existence and realisability. Finally, the synchronization of the dimensionality reduction system and the confidential transmission of the image are achieved, using the control voltage of the system to replace the internal state variables of the memristor to achieve the one-dimensional reduction process, and an adaptive synchronization controller is designed to synchronize the system before and after the dimensionality reduction. Based on the above, an image to be transmitted is modulated into a one-dimensional array and then subjected to the fractional and cyclic operations and combined with the linear encryption and decryption functions and the chaotic masking technique, the simple encryption and decryption of the image processes are realized. In order to achieve the flexible and efficient utilization of distributed energy resources, microgrids (MGs) can enhance the self-healing capability of distribution systems. Conventional primary droop control in microgrids exhibits deviations in voltage and frequency and lacks research on voltage–frequency control during network reconfiguration. Therefore, this paper investigates the control strategy of secondary control for voltage and frequency during the process of reconstructing distribution networks to operate in the form of microgrids after faults. Firstly, the mathematical model of three-phase voltage-source inverters with droop control is analyzed. Then, inspired by the generator's secondary frequency control strategy, an improved secondary control method based on droop control is proposed, and the effectiveness of the improved droop control strategy is verified. Subsynchronous oscillations have occurred in wind farms due to the high penetration of converter-based technology in power systems and may potentially lead to grid instability. As an effective solution, synchronous condensers, with their ability to control voltage and inject reactive power in the power system, are increasingly being adopted, as they can lead to the mitigation of such oscillations in weak grid conditions. However, the impact of synchronous condensers' power ratings on system stability is a topic that requires further investigation. In fact, an improper selection of a synchronous condenser's rating will not extinguish existing subsynchronous oscillations and may even cause the emergence of new oscillatory phenomena. This paper presents a novel examination of the impact that the synchronous condenser's power rating has on the small-signal stability of a wind farm with existing subsynchronous oscillations while being connected to a weak grid. The wind farm's model is developed using state-space modeling, centering on grid interconnection and incorporating the state-space submodel of a synchronous condenser to show its impact on subsynchronous oscillation mitigation. The stability analysis determines the optimal synchronous condenser's power ratings for suppressing these oscillations in the wind farm model. The findings are corroborated through time domain simulations and fast-Fourier transformation (FFT) analysis, which further validate the stability effects of a synchronous condenser's rating. Solar photovoltaics in Malta have increased substantially over the years, both at large scale and residential scale. The present installed capacity is already having a negative impact on Malta's' grid infrastructure, causing problems due to the reverse power flows (resulting from oversupply) and related issues such as voltage rise. This paper considers the integration of a low voltage regulator in a low voltage feeder in a semi‐rural area in Malta. A thyristor‐controlled transformer‐based low voltage regulator was modelled and simulated in MATLAB/Simulink using the PLECS blockset. Experimental results were also obtained via measurements of the voltage profiles at 70% of the actual low voltage feeder that showed several instances of over and under voltage events. The outputs obtained from the simulation model strongly agreed with those obtained from the field testing thereby validating the simulation models that were developed in this study. Results show that the voltage on the feeder was successfully regulated to around the nominal voltage of 240 V. The regulator failed to correct the voltage to within ±10% in one occurrence where the load demand and hence the voltage drop was too high. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Integrating residential energy storage and solar photovoltaic power generation into low-voltage distribution networks is a pathway to energy self-sufficiency. This paper elaborates on designing and implementing a 3 kW single-phase grid-connected battery inverter to integrate a 51.2-V lithium iron phosphate battery pack with a 220 V 50 Hz grid. The prototyped inverter consists of an LCL-filtered voltage source converter (VSC) and a dual active bridge (DAB) DC-DC converter, both operated at a switching frequency of 20 kHz. The VSC adopted a fast DC bus voltage control strategy with a unified current harmonic mitigation. Meanwhile, the DAB DC-DC converter employed a proportional-integral regulator to control the average battery current with a dynamic DC offset mitigation of the medium-frequency transformer's currents embedded in the single-phase shift modulation scheme. The control schemes of the two converters were implemented on a 32-bit TMS320F280049C microcontroller in the same interrupt service routine. This work presents a synchronization technique between the switching signal generation of the two converters and the sampling of analog signals for the control system. The decarbonization of the power generation and transport sector encourage the analysis of connection of distributed energy resources (DER), such as electric vehicles (EVs), to the electrical system, as well as the evaluation of their impact on smart cities. A better understanding of the negative impacts on the power systems will lead to propose mitigation measures and eventually revolutionize the way distributed generation works. This paper aims at modelling and evaluating the impact of EVs on a real distribution network. The energy system chosen operates at 60 Hz, 34.5 kV (medium voltage) and 0.208 kV (low voltage) and it is simulated using PSCAD/EMTDC. To reproduce realistic user consumption profiles, dynamic load profiles based on EV owners behaviour have been simulated. The vehicle‐to‐grid (V2G) technology is modelled to mitigate the impacts of high penetration of EVs by supporting the network from undervoltage. The results show the importance of active management in modern power systems, especially considering the increase in DER penetration expected for the coming years. In this paper, an improved AC-link voltage matching control (IVM) strategy is proposed for the multiport modular multilevel DC transformer (M3DCT), which comprises a single-phase modular multilevel converter (MMC) and a series of cascaded H-bridge units. The objective of the proposed IVM strategy is to address the AC-link voltage mismatch phenomenon. Distinct from existing control methods, such as various phase-shifting control methods and the conventional AC-link voltage matching control strategy, the proposed IVM strategy orchestrates the operation of the M3DCT in an innovative fashion. It allows the sum of inserted submodule (SM) numbers in the upper and lower arms to be flexible, no longer confined to a specific SM number per arm. Consequently, the AC-link voltage of the M3DCT is maintained proximate to the matched operating condition, regardless of the degree of mismatch in the DC side voltage of the M3DCT. This enables the enhancement of the M3DCT's overall operational performance, particularly under conditions of light loads within medium-voltage DC (MVDC) distribution systems. In this paper, we propose an optimized device structure with a highly stable process that addresses threshold voltage shift issues in the String-Select-Line (SSL) and Ground-Select-Line (GSL) gates using ferroelectric memory in 3D NAND flash memory applications. The proposed device utilizes nickel (Ni) instead of tungsten (W) for the GSL and SSL gates, enabling optimized polarization properties during the annealing process and leveraging the disparity in thermal expansion coefficients. Notably, the difference in thermal expansion coefficient from tungsten (W), employed in other Word Line (WL) gates, allows effective control over polarization properties. To validate the proposed structure, we fabricated and measured a Metal–Ferroelectric–Insulator–Silicon (MFIS) capacitor utilizing Hafnium–Zirconium Oxide (HZO) material. The measurement results indicate that a change in the upper metal layer results in a more than fivefold increase in the variance of polarization characteristics between the WL gates (responsible for the memory function) and the SSL and GSL gates dedicated to channel control. In addition, process simulation was conducted using the same device structure, confirming the application of tensile stress to the HZO thin film in the case of a W electrode and compressive stress in the case of a Ni electrode. Furthermore, applying this controlled polarization characteristic parameter to the 3D NAND flash memory structure revealed a reduction in the threshold voltage shift of the control gate from a previous change of 2.6 V or more to 0.05 V, facilitating stable control. This paper presents the development of an airport bipolar DC microgrid and its interconnected operations with the utility grid, electric vehicle (EV), and more electric aircraft (MEA). The microgrid DC-bus voltage is established by the main sources, photovoltaic (PV) and fuel cell (FC), via unidirectional three-level (3L) boost converters. The proposed one-cycle control (OCC)-based current control scheme and quantitative and robust voltage control scheme are proposed to yield satisfactory responses. Moreover, the PV maximum power point tracking (MPPT) with FC energy-supporting approach is developed to have improved renewable energy extraction characteristics. The equipped hybrid energy storage system (HESS) consists of an energy-type battery and a power-type flywheel; each device is interfaced to the common DC bus via its own 3L bidirectional interface converter. The energy-coordinated operation is achieved by the proposed droop control. A dump load leg is added to avoid overvoltage due to an energy surplus. The grid-connected energy complementary operation is conducted using a neutral point clamped (NPC) 3L three-phase inverter. In addition to the energy support from grid-to-microgrid (G2M), the reverse mcrogrid-to-grid (M2G) operation is also conductible. Moreover, microgrid-to-vehicle (M2V) and vehicle-to-microgrid (V2M) bidirectional operations can also be applicable. The droop control is also applied to perform these interconnected operations. This paper demonstrates that the switching of one grid‐connected virtual synchronous generator (VSG) between two control modes, namely constant voltage control (CVC) and current limiting control (CLC) happens at the derived two switching lines. Based on the current limiting inequality, the traditional current‐switched model is transferred to the angle‐switched model proposed here, and the system can be studied as one switched dynamic system. Based on this model, the transient stability of VSG with controller limits is investigated. This is achieved by constructing Lyapunov functions for each subsystem and deriving the relationship between the values of Lyapunov functions constructed under different conditions at the switching moment. The stability of the system is ensured when the Lyapunov function of each subsystem presents a decreasing trend in two consecutive switching intervals. On this basis, the stability boundary of the switching system is derived. Further analysis shows that optimal adjustment of the saturation current angle can make the system reach the maximum stability boundary. The voltage source converter-based multi-terminal DC transmission (VSC-MTDC) system can use additional frequency control to respond to the frequency change of faulty AC system. However, the control coefficient of traditional additional frequency control is mostly fixed, and the control flexibility is insufficient, so it cannot be adjusted adaptively according to the frequency change of the system. Therefore, a frequency control strategy of the VSC-MTDC system based on fuzzy logic control is proposed. Based on the DC voltage slope controller, this strategy introduces an additional frequency controller based on fuzzy logic control, takes the frequency deviation and frequency change rate as the additional controller input, and dynamically adjusts the control quantity through the fuzzy logic control link to realize the adaptive adjustment of the VSC-MTDC system to the AC system's frequency. Finally, a three-terminal flexible HVDC system is built on the PSCAD/EMTDC simulation platform for simulation verification. The results show that the proposed control strategy can effectively use the flexible DC system to support the frequency of the AC system and significantly improve the frequency stability of the faulty AC system. In this paper, based on the principles of general operational amplifiers, a high-voltage operational amplifier is developed. Considering the influences of piezoelectric stack actuators on the circuit, a novel structure using the high-voltage operational amplifier as a noninverting amplifier is proposed. Because of the simple circuit principles and the voltage feedback control structure, the proposed power amplifier has the advantages of low noise and small size, and it can be realized by discrete electric elements easily. In the application of precision positioning, a power amplifier using the proposed circuit principles for driving piezoelectric stack actuators is designed, simulated, and tested. The simulated results show that the proposed power amplifier could conform to the theory of the circuit. The experimental results show that the designed power amplifier conforms to the simulation, the bandwidth of the power amplifier is about 57 kHz, and the ripple of the power amplifier is less than 2 mV. Furthermore, the output of the proposed power amplifier maintains the same type of wave within in a large range of frequency, while the input is the sinusoidal or square wave, and the resolution of the mechanism which the power amplifier is applied in is about 4.5 nm. By selecting the critical electronic elements and using feedback control, the proposed circuit structure is able to realize a low-cost and high-performance power amplifier to drive piezoelectric stack actuators flexibly, which is the novel work of the paper. This paper proposes unconventional control techniques for a portable power supply consisting of electric double-layer capacitors (EDLCs), a dc–dc converter, and a low-impedance load such a plasma load. Between the EDLCs and the plasma load consuming high power, a dc–dc converter is required to control the output voltage from the rapidly decreasing voltage of EDLCs. In addition, the dc–dc converter should maintain a set point by responding to arcs occurred in plasma process. Although smart home has received wide attention in recent years, numerous scholars focus more on energy optimization strategy than energy dispatch hardware device (named energy router). Meanwhile, this energy router should have several features, i.e., high renewable energy utilization, energy multi-port and low volume. Thus, this paper designs a nine-port energy router regarding smart home and proposes a multimode hierarchical management strategy for this energy router. First, for the multi-port demand of wind, solar, storage and utilization, this paper presents a nine-port energy router to improve the renewable energy consumption and power supply flexibility. In addition, to reduce the volume of the energy router, a non-isolated AC/DC hybrid topology is constructed through embedding the integrated power electronic converters, which achieves the miniaturization of the energy router. In order to improve the renewable energy utilization rate, the decentralized module control is proposed for the components of energy router to provide the voltage and frequency support for system, and realizes the power sharing of distributed generations (DGs). Furthermore, the power exchange control with three-mode switching is proposed to guarantee the global energy flow balance under complex conditions. The paper proposes a control scheme to improve the dynamic response of power systems through the automatic regulators of converter-based Distributed Energy Resources (DERs). In this scheme, both active and reactive power control of DERs are varied to regulate both frequency and voltage, as opposed to current practice where frequency and voltage controllers are decoupled. To assess the proposed control against the current state-of-art, the paper also defines a metric that captures the combined effect of frequency/voltage response at any given bus of the network. Results indicate that the proposed control strategy leads to a significant improvement in the stability and performance of the overall power system. These results are based on a comprehensive case study carried out by employing a modified version of the IEEE 39-bus benchmark system, where a portion of the synchronous machines is substituted by converter-interfaced DERs. Hybrid ac/dc microgrid (HMG) comprises ac and dc microgrids (MGs) interconnected through an interlinking converter (IC). In islanded operation mode of HMG, a coordinated control structure must be implemented to realize voltage and frequency control in ac MG, voltage control in dc MG, active and reactive power sharing among ac sources, active power sharing among dc sources, global active power sharing among dc and ac sources, and reactive power sharing among ac sources and IC. To realize these objectives, a new coordinated control based on master–slave approach is proposed in this paper. In this method, the master source of each MG broadcasts its relative power loading as a common signal to the slave sources of the same MG and IC through a unidirectional low-bandwidth communication network. Based on this information, the slave sources and the IC adjust their operating point. The proposed method provides accurate power sharing as well as zero voltage and frequency deviation. It does not require a centralized control unit and features plug and play capability. The derivation of the proposed method is thoroughly discussed in this paper. This paper presents the three-phase impulse overvoltage measured at the terminal of a 10 kV distribution line when the impulse current was injected into the phase conductor of the distribution line. The overvoltage observation station was installed at the terminal of the line to record the three-phase overvoltage waveforms. It is shown that the struck phase overvoltage consists of three components including the negative pulse, the stage of residual voltage maintenance and the overshoot oscillation part. The observed negative peak values of the struck phase overvoltage range from −85.4 kV to −96.0 kV in three different injected impulse levels at 90,120,150 kV charging voltage. The duration of residual voltage depends on the duration time of injected current. Furthermore, there is a strong positive relationship between the oscillation amplitude of the struck phase overvoltage and the injected current amplitude. The peak amplitudes of three-phase overvoltage always have the following magnitude relationship: struck phase C > induced phase B > induced phase A. The voltage coupling coefficients of induced phases will not exceed 0.4. State-of-charge (SoC) imbalance and bus voltage deviation are two of the main problems in autonomous dc microgrids. Based on this concern, this paper presents an improved dual-quadrant SoC weighted control strategy and a distributed optimization control method to achieve SoC balance, ensuring accurate power-sharing and bus voltage recovery. Firstly, this paper couples the injected/released power with the current SoC and observed average SoC value to weight the droop coefficient, which is based on the charge/discharge mode for the energy storage system. Then a secondary controller is designed based on distributed optimal control to eliminate the bus voltage deviation caused by the line impedance difference. The proposed optimal control method optimizes the average bus voltage to the nominal value and achieve accurate power-sharing by constructing the correlated variables and voltage independent intermediate variables exchanged among bulk energy storage units (ESUs). Since the voltage observer cannot accurately observe the true average bus voltage under the communication delay, the proposed distributed optimal control method without the voltage observer can ensure that the average bus voltage is optimized to the nominal value, thus improving the robustness of the control system. Virtual synchronous generator (VSG)-based control approaches for AC machine drivers have attracted much attention in recent years. The contradiction between the strong motor loading capacity and the small DC voltage fluctuation is disregarded in previous studies. A larger virtual inertia is required to raise the torque gain and drive the motor with heavier loads, thus resulting in greater DC voltage variations. A systematic method is proposed for the optimal design of the virtual inertia for VSG-based motor starting systems to achieve the maximal motor loading capacity and the low DC voltage fluctuation in this paper. Firstly, the relationship between the virtual inertia and the loading capacity is revealed on the basis of the closed-loop analysis. Considering the DC voltage variation, the constraint on the maximal value of the virtual inertia is proposed from the energy-balance perspective despite the unknown contribution of the DC capacitors to the virtual inertia. To fully exploit the energy storage capacity of the DC capacitors and raise the upper limit of the virtual inertia under the same permitted DC voltage variation, a modified DC voltage reference is introduced.
