Abstract Background Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a serious complication in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), which still lacks adequate therapy. Irisin, a cleavage peptide off fibronectin type III domain-containing 5, has been shown to preserve cardiac function in cardiac ischemia–reperfusion injury. Whether or not irisin plays a cardioprotective role in DCM is not known. Methods and results T1DM was induced by multiple low-dose intraperitoneal injections of streptozotocin (STZ). Our current study showed that irisin expression/level was lower in the heart and serum of mice with STZ-induced TIDM. Irisin supplementation by intraperitoneal injection improved the impaired cardiac function in mice with DCM, which was ascribed to the inhibition of ferroptosis, because the increased ferroptosis, associated with increased cardiac malondialdehyde (MDA), decreased reduced glutathione (GSH) and protein expressions of solute carrier family 7 member 11 (SLC7A11) and glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4), was ameliorated by irisin. In the presence of erastin, a ferroptosis inducer, the irisin-mediated protective effects were blocked. Mechanistically, irisin treatment increased Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) and decreased p53 K382 acetylation, which decreased p53 protein expression by increasing its degradation, consequently upregulated SLC7A11 and GPX4 expressions. Thus, irisin-mediated reduction in p53 decreases ferroptosis and protects cardiomyocytes against injury due to high glucose. Conclusion This study demonstrated that irisin could improve cardiac function by suppressing ferroptosis in T1DM via the SIRT1-p53-SLC7A11/GPX4 pathway. Irisin may be a therapeutic approach in the management of T1DM-induced cardiomyopathy.

Target tracking is to predict the state of the current target according to the target context information of video sequence. Deep learning is gradually widely used in the field of target tracking. This paper elaborates on the development background of target tracking algorithms and deep learning, and reviews traditional target tracking. Based on different network task functions, target tracking algorithms based deep learning is divided into: deep learning target tracking algorithm based classification, deep learning target tracking algorithm based regression, and target tracking algorithm based on the combination of regression and classification. This paper selects representative target tracking algorithm for experiments, compares the characteristics of different algorithms. Finally, this paper analyzes the problems of current target tracking algorithms based on deep learning, and prospects the future development direction. The experimental results show that deep Siamese tracking networks are superior in accuracy and speed, which is becoming the mainstream tracking algorithm framework at present.

Rational engineering active sites and vantage defects of catalysts are promising but grand challenging task to enhance photoreduction CO2 to high value-added C2 products. In this study, we designed an N,S-codoped Fe-based MIL-88B catalyst with well-defined bipyramidal hexagonal prism morphology via a facile and effective process, which was synthesized by addition of appropriate 1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one (BIT) and acetic acid to the reaction solution. Under simulated solar irradiation, the designed catalyst exhibits high C2 H4 evolution yield of 17.7 μmol g-1 ⋅h, which has been rarely achieved in photocatalytic CO2 reduction process. The synergistic effect of Fe-N coordinated sites and reasonable defects in the N,S-codoped photocatalyst can accelerate the migration of photogenerated carriers, resulting in high electron density, and this in turn helps to facilitate the formation and dimerization of C-C coupling intermediates for C2 H4 effectively.

AIM: To investigate the expression level of inflammatory factors of aqueous humor before trabeculectomy in binocular chronic primary angle-closure glaucoma(CPACG)and its correlation with postoperative filtration bleb and intraocular pressure.METHODS: A total of 15 cases(30 eyes)with binocular CPACG who admitted to the Affiliated Eye Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from September to December 2021 and received trabeculectomy were selected. The surgery interval between two eyes was 7d, and the preoperative expression levels of monocyte chemoattractant protein-1(MCP-1), interleukin-17(IL-17), transforming growth factor-β(TGF-β), and interferon-γ(IFN-γ)of the aqueous humor in both eyes were respectively detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA). Furthermore, the intraocular pressure(IOP)and the morphology of filtering blebs at 1mo after surgery were measured.RESULTS: The concentrations of MCP-1, IL-17, TGF-β, and IFN-γ in aqueous humor from the first eye before surgery were 330.4±46.2, 357.3±46.9, 2347.5±363.8 and 527.7±101.6pg/mL respectively, and those concentrations in aqueous humor from the fellow eye were 298.2±40.7, 309.1±53.5, 1938.3±426.0 and 628.2±104.9pg/mL respectively. The preoperative expression levels of inflammatory factors of aqueous humor in both eyes were statistically significant(P≤0.05). Mitochondrial genomes have widely been used as molecular markers in understanding the patterns and processes of nematode evolution. The species in genus Cruznema are free-living bacterivores as well as parasites of crickets and mollusks. The complete mitochondrial genome of C. tripartitum was determined through high-throughput sequencing as the first sequenced representative of the genus Cruznema. The genome is comprised of 14,067 bp nucleotides, and includes 12 protein-coding, two rRNA, and 22 tRNA genes. Phylogenetic analyses based on amino acid data support C. tripartitum as a sister to the clade containing Caenorhabditis elegans and Oscheius chongmingensis. The analysis of gene arrangement suggested that C. tripartitum shares the same gene order with O. chongmingensis, Litoditis marina, Diplocapter coronatus, genus Caenorhabditis, and Pristionchus pacificus. Thus, the mitochondrial gene arrangement is highly conserved in the family Rhabditidae as well as some species in Diplogasteridae.

In recent years, with the continuous improvement of computer science and technology, artificial intelligence(AI)technology based on deep learning(DL)has developed rapidly and attracted wide attention all over the world. Great progress has been made in the research and application of AI in the medical field. In the field of optometry, AI can assist the diagnosis of myopia, strabismus, amblyopia and other diseases, and has achieved good results in the screening and early diagnosis of keratoconus as well as in the prevention and correction of myopia. Nevertheless, there are some limitations and great challenges in the application of AI in optometry, including clinical and technical challenges, interpretability of algorithmic results, medical legal issues and so on. This paper reviews the application, limitation and prospect of AI in the field of optometry.

Oysters form natural reefs and are important coastal foundation species that provide a wide range of ecosystem services. Clarification of the mechanisms by which tidal emersion affects oyster reef performance will help guide and direct future oyster reef restoration efforts. In the present study, we constructed artificial Pacific oyster (Crassostrea gigas) reefs in the coastal zones of the Yellow River Delta and quantified the effects of tidal emersion on the growth, density, biomass, element (carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus) content within tissues, and health conditions of oysters. The results showed that temperature change driven by the tidal emersion effect was one of the major forces affecting reef performance. In the experimental field, fully immersed oysters performed better than partially exposed ones in terms of growth and density. The properties of the failure shots on an induction voltage adder are described. This induction voltage adder is composed of six identical prime pulsed power sources, six induction cavities, and a lossless vacuum insulation output transmission line which is terminated by a rod-pinch diode. The failure modes include too early and too late firing of the laser-triggered gas switch in the prime pulsed power sources and abnormal diode impedance declining. The amplitudes of the voltage pulses across the feed port and azimuthal transmission line of the induction cavity are increased by 38% and 48%, respectively, in the event that this cell is driven too early. On the contrary, a reverse voltage pulse will be produced at the induction cavity when it is fired too late. The peak value of the reverse voltage pulse is about 50% of that of the normal polarity pulse. The abnormal rod-pinch diode impedance declining taking place occasionally decreases the load voltage and x-ray dose remarkably. However, the average amplitude of the voltage pulses across the six induction cavities is almost the same as that of a normal shot. We have also analyzed the property of the voltage pulses across the induction cell under the circumstance that only one induction cavity is fired. Both the experimental and circuit simulation data suggest that in this case the voltage pulses on the induction cell are nearly identical even though the load impedance varies vastly.

AIM: To compare the safety and effectiveness of pars plane filtering(PPF)and trabeculectomy(TRA)on neovascular glaucoma(NVG). METHODS: This retrospective comparison was done in 12 patients(one eye with NVG in each)who were treated with PPF surgery and 15 patients who were treated during the same period with TRA, one eye was treated in each patient. Intraocular pressure(IOP), complete surgical success rate, peripheral anterior chamber depth(PACD), postoperative anterior chamber morphology, visual acuity and complications were observed and compared between the two groups.RESULTS: The IOP was significantly reduced at each time point after the surgery 1, 3d, 1wk, 1, 3mo after operation(P0.05). The rate of complete success observed 3mo after operation was superior in PPF group(92% vs 53%, P0.05). After the operation, the anterior chamber angle was open and the anterior chamber was deepened in PPF group. No significant changes in visual acuity before and after the operation within each group and between groups were observed 3mo after the surgery(P>0.05). Abstract Background Uncontrollable bleeding after tooth extraction usually occurs in patients with coagulation diseases, including hemophilia, von Willebrand’s disease, vitamin K deficiency, platelet deficiency, and taking anticoagulant drugs. Hemophilia A is an X-linked recessive disorder caused by insufficiency of coagulation factor VIII. Mild hemophilia, defined by factor level between 0.05 and 0.40 IU/mL, is characterized by uncontrollable hemorrhage after trauma or invasive operations. Some mild hemophiliacs may remain undiagnosed until late adulthood. Therefore, surgical management of these patients may be relatively neglected. These case reports describe two uncontrollable bleeding patients with unknown mild hemophilia A after tooth extraction. Case presentation This paper reports 2 cases of persistent bleeding after tooth extraction under local anesthesia which could not be completely stopped by routine treatments. Both of them denied prior illness and injury, allergies, anticoagulant medication history, systemic and family illness. The APTT and other coagulation screening tests of the two patients before surgery were normal. Finally, they were diagnosed with mild hemophilia A via coagulation factor assays. The patients acquired complete hemostasis by receiving coagulation factor supplement therapy in hematologic department. Conclusion Mild hemophilia is marked by subclinical, asymptomatic and even normal coagulation test results. The purpose of these case reports is to bring dental professionals’ attention that APTT test alone cannot be used to exclude mild hemophilia, and provide reasonable evaluation and treatment procedures of bleeding patients after tooth extraction.

Primary angle-closure glaucoma(PACG)is an irreversible disease-causing blindness, the damage of optic nerve is caused by elevated intraocular pressure(IOP)as a result of angle-closure. Angle-closure is a fundamental pathologic process in PACG. In addition, PACG is characterized by elevated IOP as a result of mechanical obstruction of the trabecular meshwork by either apposition of the peripheral iris to the trabecular meshwork or by a synechial closed angle. In recent years, with the development of ophthalmic imaging technology, the iris has been recognized as necessary to complement anatomical risk factors in assessing the risk of PACG. In this review, we intend to describe the potential role of the iris in the pathogenesis of PACG, so as to provide new ideas and directions for prevention and treatment of such disease.

Neovascular eye disease, which is characterized by pathological neovascular formation, is a major disease threatening visual health. In recent years, neovascular eye disease has become a serious public health problem and attracted widespread attention, with the incidence increasing year by year. Pathological neovascularization is formed under the mutual inclusion and interaction of a variety of cellular components and pathological factors. It is often difficult to achieve ideal therapeutic effect if we intervene only one of the factors. Therefore, it is in an urgent need to conduct a more in-depth study in the pathological process of neovascularization and explore new factors that regulate neovascularization in order to find more effective treatments of neovascular eye diseases. In recent years, pericyte has been proved to play important roles in the occurrence and development of various neovascular eye diseases and interventions for pericytes will affect the pathological process of these diseases. This article will review the specific roles of pericytes in some common neovascular eye diseases and the factors regulating pericytes in these diseases, which would provide new ideas in the treatment of neovascular eye diseases.

Hyperuricemia is an essential risk factor in chronic kidney disease (CKD), while urate‐lowering therapy to prevent or delay CKD is controversial. Alternatively activated macrophages in response to local microenvironment play diverse roles in kidney diseases. Here, we aim to investigate whether and how macrophage integrin αM (ITGAM) contributes to hyperuricemia‐related CKD. In vivo, we explored dynamic characteristics of renal tissue in hyperuricemia‐related CKD mice. By incorporating transcriptomics and phosphoproteomics data, we analyzed gene expression profile, hub genes and potential pathways. In vitro, we validated bioinformatic findings under different conditions with interventions corresponding to core nodes. We found that hyperuricemia‐related CKD was characterized by elevated serum uric acid levels, impaired renal function, activation of macrophage alternative (M2) polarization, and kidney fibrosis. Integrated bioinformatic analyses revealed Itgam as the potential core gene, which was associated with focal adhesion signaling. Notably, we confirmed the upregulated expression of macrophage ITGAM, activated pathway, and macrophage M2 polarization in injured kidneys. In vitro, through silencing Itgam, inhibiting p‐FAK or p‐AKT1 phosphorylation, and concurrent inhibiting of p‐FAK while activating p‐AKT1 all contributed to the modulation of macrophage M2 polarization. Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is common after cardiac interventional procedures. The prevalence and clinical outcome of AKI in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) after undergoing intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) implantation remains unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate the incidence, risk factors, and prognosis of AKI in specific patient populations. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 319 patients with AMI between January 2017 and December 2021 and who had successfully received IABP implantation. The diagnostic and staging criteria used for AKI were based on guidelines from “Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes”. The composite endpoint included all-cause mortality, recurrent myocardial infarction, rehospitalization for heart failure, and target vessel revascularization. Results: A total of 139 patients (43.6%) developed AKI after receiving IABP implantation. These patients showed a higher incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events (hazard ratio [HR]: 1.55, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.06–2.26, p = 0.022) and an increased risk of all-cause mortality (HR: 1.62, 95% CI: 1.07–2.44, p = 0.019). Multivariable regression models found that antibiotic use (odds ratio [OR]: 2.07, 95% CI: 1.14–3.74, p = 0.016), duration of IABP use (OR: 1.24, 95% CI: 1.11–1.39, p < 0.001) and initial serum creatinine (SCr) (OR: 1.01, 95% CI: 1.0–1.01, p = 0.01) were independent risk factors for AKI, whereas emergency percutaneous coronary intervention was a protective factor (OR: 0.35, 95% CI: 0.18–0.69, p = 0.003). Conclusions: AMI patients who received IABP implantation are at high risk of AKI. Close monitoring of these patients is critical, including the assessment of renal function before and after IABP implantation. Additional preventive measures are needed to reduce the risk of AKI in these patients.

Abstract Background Liver injuries have been reported in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). This study aimed to investigate the clinical role played by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Methods In this multicentre, retrospective study, the parameters of liver function tests in COVID-19 inpatients were compared between various time-points in reference to SARS-CoV-2 shedding, and 3 to 7 days before the first detection of viral shedding was regarded as the reference baseline. Results In total, 70 COVID-19 inpatients were enrolled. Twenty-two (31.4%) patients had a self-medication history after illness. At baseline, 10 (14.3%), 7 (10%), 9 (12.9%), 2 (2.9%), 15 (21.4%), and 4 (5.7%) patients already had abnormal alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), albumin, and total bilirubin (TBIL) values, respectively. ALT and AST abnormal rates and levels did not show any significant dynamic changes during the full period of viral shedding (all p > 0.05). The GGT abnormal rate (p = 0.008) and level (p = 0.033) significantly increased on day 10 of viral shedding. Meanwhile, no simultaneous significant increases in abnormal ALP rates and levels were observed. TBIL abnormal rates and levels significantly increased on days 1 and 5 of viral shedding (all p
