To explore the potential effect of industrial transfer on carbon lock-in in China, this paper constructed the measurement formula of industrial transfer based on output and demand, and calculated carbon lock-in according to carbon sink and carbon emissions. By means of a spatial autoregressive model and a panel threshold model, we discussed the spatial spillover of carbon lock-in and the effect of industrial transfer. The findings are as follows: (1) The level of carbon lock-in does have a positive spatial spillover effect between economic neighboring provinces. (2) The effect of industrial transfer on carbon lock-in depends on industry characteristics. (3) Technological progress has direct and indirect carbon unlocking effects, energy structure, trade openness and increased fiscal expenditure exacerbate the carbon lock-in dilemma, while economic growth and carbon lock-in show an inverted "U" relationship. (4) There is a non-linear relationship between industrial transfer and carbon lock-in. Finally, we propose some recommendations to reduce dependence on high-carbon fossil energy and speed up the process of carbon unlocking in China. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The ocean is a key component of the global carbon cycle. As climate change becomes increasingly severe, enhancing the ocean's carbon sink capacity is of great significance to achieving the "dual carbon" goal for China. As a major maritime province, Shandong is in an advantageous position to utilize the ocean to respond to climate change and achieve the national goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality. Focusing on consolidating and enhancing ocean carbon sink capabilities, Shandong needs to formulate a clear timetable and roadmap to promote blue carbon technology research and development, actively cultivate a blue carbon trading market, and tap the inner potential of ocean carbon sink. Climate change has emerged as one of the most important environmental issues worldwide. As the world's biggest developing country, China is participating in combating climate change by promoting a low carbon economy within the context of global warming. This paper summarizes the pathways of China's low carbon economy including the aspects of energy, industry, low carbon cities, circular economy and low carbon technology, afforestation and carbon sink, the carbon emission trading market and carbon emission reduction targets. There are many achievements in the implementation of low carbon policies. For example, carbon emission intensity has been reduced drastically along with the optimizing of energy and industry structure and a nationwide carbon trading market for electricity industry has been established. However, some problems remain, such as the weakness of public participation, the ineffectiveness of unified policies for certain regions and the absence of long-term planning for low carbon cities development. Therefore, we propose some policy recommendations for the future low carbon economy development in China. Firstly, comprehensive and long-term planning should be involved in all the low carbon economy pathways. Secondly, to coordinate the relationship between central and local governments and narrow the gap between poor and rich regions, different strategies of carbon emission performance assessment should be applied for different regions. Thirdly, enterprises should cooperate with scientific research institutions to explored low carbon technologies. Finally, relevant institutions should be regulated to realize comprehensive low carbon transition through reasonable and feasible low carbon pathways in China. Soil respiration (Rs) plays an important role in terrestrial–atmospheric carbon exchange but remains one of the least studied components of the carbon cycle. How environmental changes influence Rs, and in turn, how Rs influences terrestrial carbon storage in China is unclear. Here, we estimated spatial patterns and temporal trends in Rs from 1961 to 2014 to determine the influence of the recent warming hiatus on the Rs temporal variability in China. We evaluated the relationship between Rs and a set of environmental factors and developed biome‐specific Rs models that were parameterized based on 2,862 Rs records and 18 continuous variables (e.g., air temperature, precipitation and leaf area index). Based on the biome‐specific Rs models and environmental information, we estimated the annual Rs as well as the change trend of Rs in China during the study period. The mean annual Rs from 1961 to 2014 was 3.50 (confidence interval ± 0.87) Pg·C·year−1. Rs in China increased at a rate of 0.008 Pg·C·year−2 between 1982 and 1998 (warming period), but was static between 1999 and 2014 (warming hiatus). This reduction in Rs increase rate may have an important role in enhancing terrestrial carbon sequestration. These findings confirm that temporal heterogeneity in Rs could be influenced by regional environmental changes, and further help in improving the understanding of soil carbon dynamics in China.
