In order to cope with the problems of energy shortage and environmental pollution, carbon emissions need to be reduced and so the structure of the power grid is constantly being optimized. Traditional centralized power networks are not as capable of controlling and distributing non-renewable energy as distributed power grids. Therefore, the optimal dispatch of microgrids faces increasing challenges. This paper proposes a multi-strategy fusion slime mould algorithm (MFSMA) to tackle the microgrid optimal dispatching problem. Traditional swarm intelligence algorithms suffer from slow convergence, low efficiency, and the risk of falling into local optima. The MFSMA employs reverse learning to enlarge the search space and avoid local optima to overcome these challenges. Furthermore, adaptive parameters ensure a thorough search during the algorithm iterations. The focus is on exploring the solution space in the early stages of the algorithm, while convergence is accelerated during the later stages to ensure efficiency and accuracy. The salp swarm algorithm's search mode is also incorporated to expedite convergence. MFSMA and other algorithms are compared on the benchmark functions, and the test showed that the effect of MFSMA is better. Simulation results demonstrate the superior performance of the MFSMA for function optimization, particularly in solving the 24 h microgrid optimal scheduling problem. This problem considers multiple energy sources such as wind turbines, photovoltaics, and energy storage. A microgrid model based on the MFSMA is established in this paper. Simulation of the proposed algorithm reveals its ability to enhance energy utilization efficiency, reduce total network costs, and minimize environmental pollution. Aiming at the shortcomings of Chimp optimization algorithm (ChOA), which is easy to fall into local optimal value and imbalance between global exploration ability and local exploitation ability. To improve ChOA from the perspective of multi-strategy mixing, MSChimp was proposed, and the algorithm was applied to global optimization and minimum spanning tree problems. The main research work of this paper is as follows: (1) In the initialization stage of ChOA, an opposition-based learning strategy was introduced to improve the population diversity; Sine Cosine Algorithm (SCA) was introduced in the exploitation process to improve the convergence speed and accuracy of the algorithm in the later stage, so as to balance the exploration and exploitation capabilities of the algorithm. (2) The improved algorithm was compared with different types of meta-heuristic algorithms in 20 benchmark functions and CEC 2019 test sets, and was used to solve the minimum spanning tree. The experimental results show that the improved ChOA has significantly improved the ability to find the optimal value, which verifies the effectiveness and feasibility of MSChimp. This paper proposes a novel multi-hybrid algorithm named DHPN, using the best-known properties of dwarf mongoose algorithm (DMA), honey badger algorithm (HBA), prairie dog optimizer (PDO), cuckoo search (CS), grey wolf optimizer (GWO) and naked mole rat algorithm (NMRA). It follows an iterative division for extensive exploration and incorporates major parametric enhancements for improved exploitation operation. To counter the local optima problems, a stagnation phase using CS and GWO is added. Six new inertia weight operators have been analyzed to adapt algorithmic parameters, and the best combination of these parameters has been found. An analysis of the suitability of DHPN towards population variations and higher dimensions has been performed. For performance evaluation, the CEC 2005 and CEC 2019 benchmark data sets have been used. A comparison has been performed with differential evolution with active archive (JADE), self-adaptive DE (SaDE), success history based DE (SHADE), LSHADE-SPACMA, extended GWO (GWO-E), jDE100, and others. The DHPN algorithm is also used to solve the image fusion problem for four fusion quality metrics, namely, edge-based similarity index ( Q A B / F ), sum of correlation difference (SCD), structural similarity index measure (SSIM), and artifact measure ( N A B / F ). The average Q A B / F = 0.765508 , S C D = 1.63185 , S S I M = 0.726317 , and N A B / F = 0.006617 shows the best combination of results obtained by DHPN with respect to the existing algorithms such as DCH, CBF, GTF, JSR and others. Experimental and statistical Wilcoxon's and Friedman's tests show that the proposed DHPN algorithm performs significantly better in comparison to the other algorithms under test. Optimization of scheduling problems that involve single or multiple machines with a multimodal objective function and linear or non-linear constraints are generally NP-Hard. The Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) algorithm is a metaheuristic proposed about eighteen years ago and has gained popularity in the swarm intelligence-based evolutionary computation approaches. Various scheduling requirements in diverse domains viz. Electric Vehicle charging, Operating Room, Nurse, Automatic Guided Vehicle (AGV), production, manufacturing, hydrothermal, Printed Circuit Board (PCB), and call centre scheduling are studied. The NP-Hard nature of these scheduling problems render exact methods incompetent for large problem instances thus requiring meta-heuristics such as ABC to produce feasible solutions in a reasonable computation time. The adaptation of ABC in these domains and the outcomes and performance of ABC are highlighted. Based on the case studies, it is found that the requirements of scheduling problems that would benefit from ABC are those that have a planning horizon requiring a near-optimal solution in a reasonably fast time when run on minimal computing capacity. Future works that would merit the application and enhancement of existing ABC techniques are proposed. The case studies presented in this paper motivate R&D Engineers and young researchers to apply ABC techniques of optimization and scheduling in different research topics for achieving energy and cost efficiency. Swarm intelligence optimization algorithm has been proved to perform well in the field of parameter optimization. In order to further improve the performance of intelligent optimization algorithm, this paper proposes an improved and adaptive tunicate swarm algorithm (IMATSA) based on tunicate swarm algorithm (TSA). IMATSA improves TSA in the following four aspects: population diversity, local search convergence speed, jumping out of local optimal position, and balancing global and local search. Firstly, IMATSA adopts Tent map and quadratic interpolation to initialize population and enhance the diversity. Secondly, IMATSA uses Golden-Sine algorithm to accelerate the convergence of local search. Thirdly, in the process of global development, IMATSA adopts Levy flight and the improved Gauss disturbance method to adaptively improves and coordinates the ability of global development and local search. Then, this paper verifies the performance of IMATSA based on 14 benchmark functions experiment, ablation experiment, parameter optimization experiments of Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Gradient Boosting Decision Tree (GBDT), Wilcoxon signed rank test and image multi-threshold segmentation experiment with the performance metrics are convergence speed, convergence value, significance level P-value, Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) and Standard Deviation (STD). Experimental results show that IMATSA performs better in three kinds of benchmark functions; each component of IMATSA has a positive effect on the performance; IMATSA performs better in parameter optimization experiments of SVM experiment and GBDT; there is significant difference between IMATSA and other algorithms by Wilcoxon signed rank test; in image segmentation, the performance is directly proportional to the number of thresholds, and compared with other algorithms, IMATSA has better comprehensive performance. We propose an adaptive fractional multi-scale optimization optical flow algorithm, which for the first time improves the over-smoothing of optical flow estimation under the total variation model from the perspective of global feature and local texture balance, and solves the problem that the convergence of fractional optical flow algorithms depends on the order parameter. Specifically, a fractional-order discrete L1-regularization Total Variational Optical Flow model is constructed. On this basis, the Ant Lion algorithm is innovatively used to realize the iterative calculation of the optical flow equation, and the fractional order is dynamically adjusted to obtain an adaptive optimization algorithm with strong search accuracy and high efficiency. In this paper, the flexibility of optical flow estimation in weak gradient texture scenes is increased, and the optical flow extraction rate of target features at multiple scales is greatly improved. In recent years, there is massive development of new metaheuristics as stochastic methods. Meanwhile, there is not any metaheuristics is powerful to handle all problems as stated in the no-free-lunch (NFL) theory. Based on this circumstance, this paper introduces a new swarm-based metaheuristics with the main strategy moving toward the resultant of better swarm members and avoiding the resultant of worse swarm members called group better-worse algorithm (GBWA). It consists of five searches: moving toward the best swarm member, moving toward the resultant of better swarm members, moving away from the resultant of worse swarm members, searching locally, and jumping to the opposite area. GBWA is then evaluated in three ways. The first evaluation is a comparative evaluation where GBWA is compared to five recent metaheuristics: coati optimization algorithm (COA), average and subtraction-based optimization (ASBO), clouded leopard optimization (CLO), total interaction algorithm (TIA), and osprey optimization algorithm (OOA). The second evaluation is the individual search evaluation. The third evaluation is hyperparameter test. The collection of 23 classic functions is chosen as the use case in all evaluations. The result of the first evaluation shows that GBWA is better than COA, ASBO, CLO, TIA, and OOA in 20, 21, 20, 21, and 21 functions consecutively. Meanwhile, the result of the second evaluation shows the equal contribution between the motion toward the best swarm member and the motion toward the resultant of better swarm members. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are organic pollutants and manufactured substances conferring toxicity to human health. The present study investigated whether pyrene, a type of PAH, harms rats. Our research provides an effective feature selection strategy for the animal dataset from Wenzhou Medical University's Experimental Animal Center to thoroughly examine the impacts of PAH toxicity on rat features. Initially, we devised a high‐performance optimization method (SCBA) and added the Sobol sequence, vertical crossover and horizontal crossover mechanisms to the bat algorithm (BA). The SCBA‐KELM model, which combines SCBA with the kernel extreme learning machine model (KELM), has excellent accuracy and high stability for selecting features. Benchmark function tests are then used in this research to verify the overall optimization performance of SCBA. In this paper, the feature selection performance of SCBA‐KELM is verified using various comparative experiments. According to the results, the features of the genes PXR, CAR, CYP2B1/2 and CYP1A1/2 have the most impact on rats. The SCBA‐KELM model's classification performance for the gene dataset was 100%, and the model's precision value for the public dataset was around 96%, as determined by the classification index. A new swarm-based metaheuristic, namely the enriched coati osprey algorithm (ECOA), is proposed in this paper. As its name suggests, ECOA hybridizes two new metaheuristics, the coati optimization algorithm (COA) and the osprey optimization algorithm (OOA). ECOA is constructed by five searches performed sequentially by the swarm members. The first three are directed searches, while the last two are neighborhood searches. All three directed searches are adopted from COA and OOA. Meanwhile, the four-bordered neighborhood search is developed based on a new approach. During the assessment, ECOA was challenged to overcome the set of 23 functions and contended with five new metaheuristics: total interaction algorithm (TIA), golden search optimization (GSO), average and subtraction-based optimization (ASBO), COA, and OOA. The result shows that ECOA outperforms TIA, GSO, ASBO, COA, and OOA in 16, 23, 18, 21, and 21 functions. Meanwhile, the individual search test result shows that the directed searches perform better than the neighborhood searches. The Honey Badger Algorithm (HBA) represents a novel swarm intelligence optimization algorithm introduced in recent years. However, its predominant constraints are linked to inadequate convergence accuracy and a vulnerability to entrapment in local optima. In an effort to mitigate these challenges, this paper introduces an Improved Honey Badger Algorithm Based on a Hybrid Strategy (OHBA). Firstly, during the population initialization phase, a method involving the utilization of a good point set is introduced to enhance the diversity and introduce more randomness into the population. Secondly, in the position update phase, the Beta distribution is employed as an alternative to the Uniform distribution, aiming to strike a balance between global exploration and local exploitation capabilities. Thirdly, an improved adaptive density factor strategy is incorporated into both global and local position updates to enhance the algorithm's convergence precision and speed. Lastly, within the global exploration stage, a Cauchy mutation strategy based on the Sine chaotic mapping is introduced to facilitate the algorithm in overcoming local optima and reinforcing its optimization capabilities. The improved algorithm's performance has been evaluated through a comprehensive set of assessments, including CEC-2017 functions, CEC-2022 functions, Wilcoxon rank-sum tests, and practical engineering optimization problems. These evaluations were undertaken to assess the algorithm in comparison to classical intelligent optimization algorithms. The experimental results show that OHBA possesses significant advantages in terms of convergence speed, optimization accuracy, robustness and its practical utility and effectiveness in addressing complex optimization challenges. Inspired by the migration and reproduction of species in nature to explore suitable habitats, this paper proposed a new swarm intelligence algorithm called the Migration and Reproduction Algorithm (MARA). This new algorithm discusses how to transform the behavior of an organism looking for a suitable habitat into a mathematical model, which can solve optimization problems. MARA has some common features with other optimization methods such as particle swarm optimization (PSO) and the fireworks algorithm (FWA), which means MARA can also solve the optimization problems that PSO and FWA are used to, namely, high-dimensional optimization problems. MARA also has some unique features among biology-based optimization methods. In this paper, we articulated the structure of MARA by correlating it with natural biogeography; then, we demonstrated the performance of MARA on sets of 12 benchmark functions. Inspired by insects in nature, an increasing number of soft robots have been proposed to mimic their locomotion patterns. As a wireless actuation method, the magnetic actuation technique has been widely applied to drive soft magnetic robots for diverse applications. Although recent works on soft materials have stimulated the development of soft robots, it is challenging to achieve the efficient movement of soft robots for in vivo biomedical application. Inspired by centipede locomotion, a soft octopodal robot is designed in this paper. The robot is fabricated by mixing magnetic particles with silicone polymers, which is then magnetized by a specific magnetic field. The prototypes can be actuated by an external magnetic field (5–8 mT) produced by custom-made electromagnetic coils. Experimental results show that the soft robot can move at a high speed in the range of 0.536–1.604 mm/s on different surfaces, including paper, wood, and PMMA. This indicates that the soft robot can achieve comparable speeds to other robots, while being driven by a lower magnitude, resulting in energy savings. Furthermore, it achieves a high speed of 0.823 mm/s on the surface of a pig colon. The fine capabilities of the soft robot in terms of crossing uneven biological surfaces and carrying external loads are demonstrated. The slime mould algorithm (SMA) is a new swarm intelligence algorithm inspired by the oscillatory behavior of slime moulds during foraging. Numerous researchers have widely applied the SMA and its variants in various domains in the field and proved its value by conducting various literatures. In this paper, a comprehensive review of the SMA is introduced, which is based on 130 articles obtained from Google Scholar between 2022 and 2023. In this study, firstly, the SMA theory is described. Secondly, the improved SMA variants are provided and categorized according to the approach used to apply them. Finally, we also discuss the main applications domains of the SMA, such as engineering optimization, energy optimization, machine learning, network, scheduling optimization, and image segmentation. This review presents some research suggestions for researchers interested in this algorithm, such as conducting additional research on multi-objective and discrete SMAs and extending this to neural networks and extreme learning machining. This paper presents a method for unsupervised classification of entities by a group of agents with unknown domains and levels of expertise. In contrast to the existing methods based on majority voting ("wisdom of the crowd") and their extensions by expectation-maximization procedures, the suggested method first determines the levels of the agents' expertise and then weights their opinions by their expertise level. In particular, we assume that agents will have relatively closer classifications in their field of expertise. Therefore, the expert agents are recognized by using a weighted Hamming distance between their classifications, and then the final classification of the group is determined from the agents' classifications by expectation-maximization techniques, with preference to the recognized experts. The algorithm was verified and tested on simulated and real-world datasets and benchmarked against known existing algorithms. We show that such a method reduces incorrect classifications and effectively solves the problem of unsupervised collaborative classification under uncertainty, while outperforming other known methods. This paper provides a real application of a popular swarm-intelligence optimisation method. The aim is to analyse the efficiency of various settings of the marine predator algorithm (MPA). Four crucial numerical parameters of the MPA are statistically analysed to propose the most efficient setting for solving engineering problems. Besides population size, particle velocity parameter P, Lévy flight parameter β , and fish aggregating device (FAD) probabilities are studied. Finally, 193 various settings, including fixed values and dynamic changes of the MPA parameters, are experimentally compared when solving 13 engineering problems. Standard statistical approaches are employed to highlight significant differences in various MPA settings. The setting of two MPA parameters (P, FADs) significantly influences MPA performance. Three newly proposed MPA settings outperform the original variant significantly. The best results provide the MPA variant with the dynamic linear change of P from 0.5 to 0. These parameters influence the velocity of prey and predator individuals in all three stages of the MPA search process. Decreasing the value of P showed that decreasing the velocity of individuals during the search provides good performance. Further, lower efficiency of the MPA with higher FAD values was detected. It means that more occasional use of fish aggregating devices (FADs) can increase the solvability of engineering problems. Energy constraint has become the major challenge for designing wireless sensor networks. Network lifetime is considered as the most substantial metric in these networks. Routing technique is one of the best choices for maintaining network lifetime. This paper demonstrates implementation of new methodology of routing in WSN using firefly swarm intelligence. Energy consumption is the dominant issue in wireless sensor networks routing. For network cutoff avoidance while maximize net lifetime energy exhaustion must be balanced. Balancing energy consumption is the key feature for rising nets lifetime of WSNs. This routing technique involves determination of optimal route from node toward sink to make energy exhaustion balance in network and in the same time maximize network throughput and lifetime. The proposed technique show that it is better than other some routing techniques like Dijkstra routing, Fuzzy routing, and ant colony (ACO) routing technique. The gas centrifuge process is widely used in the world to separate binary and multi component mixtures of isotopes. The majority of a plant cost is related to the number of centrifuges in a cascade. The cascade should be built so that it uses the fewest possible centrifuges for a given product and waste concentrations. Minimizing the number of centrifuges and the total flow rates, is a key point in designing and optimizing isotope separation cascades. The main purpose of this paper is to present a novel swarm intelligence based algorithm to solve these kinds of problems. This novel algorithm, called the Horse Herd Optimization Algorithm (HOA), is inspired by the behavioral patterns of horses in their habitats. In this work, it is demonstrated that the suggested algorithm can solve complicated multidimensional problems. HOA is tested by some test functions of high-dimensions and the results are compared with the strongest available optimization algorithms. In next, the proposed algorithm is used to optimize gas centrifuge cascades for the separation of binary and multicomponent mixtures of isotopes in several cases. Also, ideal and optimum cascades are compared in different separating regimes of the stages, using this method. Accurate localization of partial discharge in GIS equipment remains a key focus of daily maintenance for substations, which can be achieved through advanced detection and location techniques, as well as regular maintenance and testing of the equipment. However, there is currently an issue with low accuracy in the localization algorithm. Aiming at the problems of low precision and local optimization of the swarm intelligence algorithm in partial discharge localization system of GIS equipment, this paper proposes a 3D localization algorithm based on a time difference of arrival (TDOA) model of the improved artificial fish swarm algorithm (IAFSA). By introducing the investigation behaviour of the artificial bee colony(ABC) algorithm into the artificial fish swarms algorithm (AFSA), this algorithm is more efficient to jump out of the local extremum, enhance the optimization performance, improve the global search ability and overcome the premature convergence. Furthermore, more precise positioning can be achieved with dynamic parameters. The results of the testing function show that IAFSA is significantly superior to AFSA and particle swarm optimization (PSO) in terms of positioning accuracy and stability. When applied to partial discharge localization experiments, the maximum relative positioning error is less than 2.5%. This validates that the proposed method in this paper can achieve high-precision partial discharge localization, has good engineering application value, and provides strong support for the safe operation of GIS equipment. Since the past few years, several metaheuristic algorithms, inspired by the natural processes, have been introduced to solve different complex optimization problems. Studying and comparing the convergence, computational burden and statistical significance of those metaheuristics are helpful for future algorithmic development and their applications. This paper focuses on comparing the optimization performance of classical dragonfly algorithm (DA) and its seven different variants, i.e., hybrid memory-based dragonfly algorithm with differential evolution (DADE), quantum-behaved and Gaussian mutational dragonfly algorithm (QGDA), memory-based hybrid dragonfly algorithm (MHDA), chaotic dragonfly algorithm (CDA), biogeography-based Mexican hat wavelet dragonfly algorithm (BMDA), hybrid Nelder–Mead algorithm and dragonfly algorithm (INMDA) and hybridization of dragonfly algorithm and artificial bee colony (HDA) while solving 80 CEC-2021 benchmark problems. It is observed that the convergence rates of different variants of DA algorithm vary, and the corresponding computational times for such variations are also evaluated. This paper finally ranks DA and its variants according to their convergence efficiency and Friedman test. To improve the local mining and global search ability of quantum-behaved particle swarm optimization algorithm ( QPSO), this paper proposed an improved QPSO algorithm( DSQPSO). DSQPSO algorithm introduced the double strategies co-evolution to adjust the particle position update formula. Firstly, in order to fully reflect the advantage of individual exploration and the characteristic of collective guidance, this paper put forward two kinds of ideas of attraction points to achieve better integration of individuals and the swarm as well as information exchange. Secondly, it redefined the search scope of the particle through considering the relationship between the optimal average position and the global optimum and individual's historical optimum respectively. Moreover, in the iterative process, DSQPSO used the random perturbation mechanism to adjust the global optimal position in order to help the diversity of the swarm to be preserved. Based on 18 test functions, this paper compared DSQPSO with PSO, QPSO, RQPSO and LQPSO in convergence accuracy and robustness. Furthermore, in terms of the optimization results, it compared the improved algorithm with eight intelligent algorithms on two practical engineering optimization problems. Whale optimization algorithm is a new swarm intelligence optimization algorithm inspired by humpback whale hunting behavior, and its performance is far better than the traditional algorithms. Data clustering is a machine learning method for unsupervised learning that is popular in the two areas of data analysis and data mining. The objective is to partition a given dataset into distinct clusters, aiming to maximize the similarity among data objects within the same cluster. In this paper, an improved honey badger algorithm called DELHBA is proposed to solve the clustering problem. In DELHBA, to boost the population's diversity and the performance of global search, the differential evolution method is incorporated into algorithm's initial step. Secondly, the equilibrium pooling technique is included to assist the standard honey badger algorithm (HBA) break free of the local optimum. Finally, the updated honey badger population individuals are updated with Levy flight strategy to produce more potential solutions. Ten famous benchmark test datasets are utilized to evaluate the efficiency of the DELHBA algorithm and to contrast it with twelve of the current most used swarm intelligence algorithms and k-means. Additionally, DELHBA algorithm's performance is assessed using the Wilcoxon rank sum test and Friedman's test. For the parameter estimation problem in research related to the fractional-order chaotic systems (FOCSs), a modified optimization algorithm based on Salp Swarm Algorithm (SSA) was developed in this paper. The proposed algorithm introduced several improvements on SSA: adding a grouping step, introducing "betrayal" behavior, and improving the update method of the followers. We applied multiple classical optimization algorithms to conduct the parameter estimation experiments on the fractional-order Lorenz chaotic system (Lorenz-FOCS) and the fractional-order Financial chaotic system (Financial-FOCS). In addition, we explored the impact of searching space on parameters estimation through experiments. The experimental results confirmed the feasibility of the modified Salp Swarm Algorithm (MSSA). In this paper, the quantum technology is exploited to empower the OPTICS unsupervised learning algorithm, which is a density-based clustering algorithm with numerous applications in the real world. We design an algorithm called Quantum Ordering Points To Identify the Clustering Structure (QOPTICS) and demonstrate that its computational complexity outperforms that of its classical counterpart. On the other hand, we propose a Deep self-learning approach for modeling the improvement of two Swarm Intelligence Algorithms, namely Artificial Orca Algorithm (AOA) and Elephant Herding Optimization (EHO) in order to improve their effectiveness. The deep self-learning approach is based on two well-known dynamic mutation operators, namely Cauchy mutation operator and Gaussian mutation operator. And in order to improve the efficiency of these algorithms, they are hybridized with QOPTICS and executed on just one cluster it yields. This way, both effectiveness and efficiency are handled. To evaluate the proposed approaches, an intelligent application is developed to manage the dispatching of emergency vehicles in a large geographic region and in the context of Covid-19 crisis in order to avoid an important loss in human lives. A theoretical model is designed to describe the issue mathematically. Extensive experiments are then performed to validate the mathematical model and evaluate the performance of the proposed deep self-learning algorithms. With the development of the drying rack system, users with limited time tend to use the fully functional drying rack system to realize various intelligent control functions. However, the existing control methods for drying rack system has some defects such as, low intelligence and system delay, which are unsuitable for most users. In this paper, an efficient intelligent control algorithm based on the back‐propagation (BP) neural network is proposed. In this system, STM32F103 is first utilized as the central controller and multiple sensors are used to collect environmental information. Then, the remote control, voice keywords, and buttons can be used to achieve intelligent control. Subsequently, a motor drive intelligence control algorithm based on the BP neural network (MCBP) is proposed to improve the accuracy of the intelligent control. Next, an Application (APP) that can display environmental data such as wind speed, temperature, and humidity is developed. The APP can realize various intelligent control functions such as lifting, panning, rotating, and harvesting. Finally, MCBP is compared with normal control and programmable logic controller control. In the past decades, surrogate-assisted evolutionary algorithms (SAEAs) have become one of the most popular methods to solve expensive multi-objective optimization problems (EMOPs). However, most existing methods focus on low-dimensional EMOPs because a large number of training samples are required to build accurate surrogate models, which is unrealistic for high-dimensional EMOPs. Therefore, this paper develops a two-stage dominance-based surrogate-assisted evolution algorithm (TSDEA) for high-dimensional EMOPs which utilizes the RBF model to approximate each objective function. First, a two-stage selection strategy is applied to select individuals for re-evaluation. Then considering the training time of the model, proposing a novel archive updating strategy to limit the number of individuals for updating. Metaheuristic optimization algorithms play a crucial role in optimization problems. However, the traditional identification methods have the following problems: (1) difficulties in nonlinear data processing; (2) high error rates caused by local stagnation; and (3) low classification rates resulting from premature convergence. This paper proposed a variant based on the gray wolf optimization algorithm (GWO) with chaotic disturbance, candidate migration, and attacking mechanisms, naming it the enhanced gray wolf optimizer (EGWO), to solve the problem of premature convergence and local stagnation. The performance of the EGWO was tested on IEEE CEC 2014 benchmark functions, and the results of the EGWO were compared with the performance of three GWO variants, five traditional and popular algorithms, and six recent algorithms. In addition, EGWO optimized the weights and biases of a multi-layer perceptron (MLP) and proposed an EGWO-MLP disease identification model; the model was tested on IEEE CEC 2014 benchmark functions, and EGWO-MLP was verified by UCI dataset including Tic-Tac-Toe, Heart, XOR, and Balloon datasets. The Ultra-Wideband (UWB) indoor positioning method is widely used in areas where no satellite signals are available. However, during the measurement process of UWB, the collected data contain random errors. To alleviate the effect of random errors on positioning accuracy, an improved adaptive sparrow search algorithm (IASSA) based on the sparrow search algorithm (SSA) is proposed in this paper by introducing three strategies, namely, the two-step weighted least squares algorithm, adaptive adjustment of search boundary, and producer–scrounger quantity adaptive adjustment. The simulation and field test results indicate that the IASSA algorithm achieves significantly higher localization accuracy than previous methods. Meanwhile, the IASSA algorithm requires fewer iterations, which overcomes the problem of the long computation time of the swarm intelligence optimization algorithm. Swarm Intelligence (SI) algorithms are frequently applied to tackle complex optimization problems. SI is especially used when good solutions are requested for NP hard problems within a reasonable response time. And when such problems possess a very high dimensionality, a dynamic nature, or present intrinsic complex intertwined independent variables, computational costs for SI algorithms may still be too high. Therefore, new approaches and hardware support are needed to speed up processing. Nowadays, with the popularization of GPU and multi-core processing, parallel versions of SI algorithms can provide the required performance on those though problems. This paper aims to describe the state of the art of such approaches, to summarize the key points addressed, and also to identify the research gaps that could be addressed better. This paper discusses the relevant theory of swarm intelligence algorithm processing big data on the table tennis training competition knowledge interaction platform system, as well as the technical support of Nginx and Tomcat, and determines the technical basis of the table tennis training competition knowledge interaction platform. Through the establishment of the firefly algorithm model, the resource search ability is enhanced, and the traditional firefly algorithm is improved. From the results of the system performance test, it can be found that the improved swarm intelligence algorithm adopted in this paper improves the global convergence, and the load balancing degree gradually decreases with the increase of time. The improved firefly algorithm shows good performance when the bandwidth is low, and the resource occupancy rate is greatly reduced. When the bandwidth is 20, it is reduced by 12.55%. Recycling tasks are the most effective method for reducing waste generation, protecting the environment, and boosting the overall national economy. The productivity and effectiveness of the recycling process are strongly dependent on the cleanliness and precision of processed primary sources. However, recycling operations are often labor intensive, and computer vision and deep learning (DL) techniques aid in automatically detecting and classifying trash types during recycling chores. Due to the dimensional challenge posed by pre-trained CNN networks, the scientific community has developed numerous techniques inspired by biology, swarm intelligence theory, physics, and mathematical rules. This research applies a new meta-heuristic algorithm called the artificial hummingbird algorithm (AHA) to solving the waste classification problem based on feature selection. However, the performance of the AHA is barely satisfactory; it may be stuck in optimal local regions or have a slow convergence. To overcome these limitations, this paper develops two improved versions of the AHA called the AHA-ROBL and the AHA-OBL. These two versions enhance the exploitation stage by using random opposition-based learning (ROBL) and opposition-based learning (OBL) to prevent local optima and accelerate the convergence. The main purpose of this paper is to apply the AHA-ROBL and AHA-OBL to select the relevant deep features provided by two pre-trained models of CNN (VGG19 & ResNet20) to recognize a waste classification. The TrashNet dataset is used to verify the performance of the two proposed approaches (the AHA-ROBL and AHA-OBL). The effectiveness of the suggested methods (the AHA-ROBL and AHA-OBL) is compared with that of 12 modern and competitive optimizers, namely the artificial hummingbird algorithm (AHA), Harris hawks optimizer (HHO), Salp swarm algorithm (SSA), aquila optimizer (AO), Henry gas solubility optimizer (HGSO), particle swarm optimizer (PSO), grey wolf optimizer (GWO), Archimedes optimization algorithm (AOA), manta ray foraging optimizer (MRFO), sine cosine algorithm (SCA), marine predators algorithm (MPA), and rescue optimization algorithm (SAR). A fair evaluation of the proposed algorithms' performance is achieved using the same dataset. The performance analysis of the two proposed algorithms is applied in terms of different measures. Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in women, with an estimated 287,850 new cases identified in 2022. There were 43,250 female deaths attributed to this malignancy. The high death rate associated with this type of cancer can be reduced with early detection. Nonetheless, a skilled professional is always necessary to manually diagnose this malignancy from mammography images. Many researchers have proposed several approaches based on artificial intelligence. However, they still face several obstacles, such as overlapping cancerous and noncancerous regions, extracting irrelevant features, and inadequate training models. In this paper, we developed a novel computationally automated biological mechanism for categorizing breast cancer. Using a new optimization approach based on the Advanced Al-Biruni Earth Radius (ABER) optimization algorithm, a boosting to the classification of breast cancer cases is realized. The stages of the proposed framework include data augmentation, feature extraction using AlexNet based on transfer learning, and optimized classification using a convolutional neural network (CNN). Using transfer learning and optimized CNN for classification improved the accuracy when the results are compared to recent approaches. Two publicly available datasets are utilized to evaluate the proposed framework, and the average classification accuracy is 97.95%. To ensure the statistical significance and difference between the proposed methodology, additional tests are conducted, such as analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Wilcoxon, in addition to evaluating various statistical analysis metrics. Recently, swarm intelligence algorithms have received much attention because of their flexibility for solving complex problems in the real world. Recently, a new algorithm called the colony predation algorithm (CPA) has been proposed, taking inspiration from the predatory habits of groups in nature. However, CPA suffers from poor exploratory ability and cannot always escape solutions known as local optima. Therefore, to improve the global search capability of CPA, an improved variant (OLCPA) incorporating an orthogonal learning strategy is proposed in this paper. Then, considering the fact that the swarm intelligence algorithm can go beyond the local optimum and find the global optimum solution, a novel OLCPA-CNN model is proposed, which uses the OLCPA algorithm to tune the parameters of the convolutional neural network. To verify the performance of OLCPA, comparison experiments are designed to compare with other traditional metaheuristics and advanced algorithms on IEEE CEC 2017 benchmark functions. The experimental results show that OLCPA ranks first in performance compared to the other algorithms. Aiming at the shortcoming of salp swarm optimization algorithm such as low accuracy, slow convergence speed and easy to fall into local optimum, this paper proposed an adaptive t-distribution and dynamic weight salp swarm optimization algorithm. Firstly, the leader position update introduced the global search stage formula of butterfly optimization algorithm to enhance the global exploration ability. Secondly, the follower location update introduced an adaptive dynamic weighting factor to strengthen the guiding role of elite individuals, so as to enhance the local development ability. Finally, the adaptive t-distribution mutation strategy mutated the optimal individual in order to avoid the algorithm falling into local optimum. By solving 12 benchmark test functions, and according to comparison results of the mean value, standard deviation, solving success rate, Wilcoxon test and convergence curve, the proposed algorithm was superior to standard salp swarm algorithm, the compared other improved salp swarm algorithm and the compared other swarm intelligence algorithms. As a meta-heuristic algorithm, the ant colony algorithm has been successfully used to solve various combinatorial optimization problems. However, the existing algorithm that takes the power of ants to solve distributed constraint optimization problems (ACO_DCOP) is easy to fall into local optima. To deal with this issue, this paper presents an adaptive ant colony algorithm based on local information entropy to solve distributed constraint optimization problems, named LIEAD. In LIEAD, the local information entropy is introduced to help agents adaptively select the pheromone update strategy and value selection strategy, which improves the convergence speed and the quality of the solution. Moreover, a restart mechanism is designed to break the accumulation state of pheromone, which increases the population diversity and helps the algorithm jump out of the local optima. To address the problems of low accuracy and slow convergence of traditional multilevel image segmentation methods, a symmetric cross-entropy multilevel thresholding image segmentation method (MSIPOA) with multi-strategy improved pelican optimization algorithm is proposed for global optimization and image segmentation tasks. First, Sine chaotic mapping is used to improve the quality and distribution uniformity of the initial population. A spiral search mechanism incorporating a sine cosine optimization algorithm improves the algorithm's search diversity, local pioneering ability, and convergence accuracy. A levy flight strategy further improves the algorithm's ability to jump out of local minima. In this paper, 12 benchmark test functions and 8 other newer swarm intelligence algorithms are compared in terms of convergence speed and convergence accuracy to evaluate the performance of the MSIPOA algorithm. By non-parametric statistical analysis, MSIPOA shows a greater superiority over other optimization algorithms. The MSIPOA algorithm is then experimented with symmetric cross-entropy multilevel threshold image segmentation, and eight images from BSDS300 are selected as the test set to evaluate MSIPOA. According to different performance metrics and Fridman test, MSIPOA algorithm outperforms similar algorithms in global optimization and image segmentation, and the symmetric cross entropy of MSIPOA algorithm for multilevel thresholding image segmentation method can be effectively applied to multilevel thresholding image segmentation tasks. This paper proposes the multi-objective variant of the recently-introduced fitness dependent optimizer (FDO). The algorithm is called a multi-objective fitness dependent optimizer (MOFDO) and is equipped with all five types of knowledge (situational, normative, topographical, domain, and historical knowledge) as in FDO. MOFDO is tested on two standard benchmarks for the performance-proof purpose: classical ZDT test functions, which is a widespread test suite that takes its name from its authors Zitzler, Deb, and Thiele, and on IEEE Congress of Evolutionary Computation benchmark (CEC-2019) multi-modal multi-objective functions. MOFDO results are compared to the latest variant of multi-objective particle swarm optimization, non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm third improvement (NSGA-III), and multi-objective dragonfly algorithm. The comparative study shows the superiority of MOFDO in most cases and comparative results in other cases. The paper introduces an approach to the development of collision avoidance algorithms for ships based on the firefly algorithm, classified to the swarm intelligence methods. Such algorithms are inspired by the swarming behaviour of animals, such as e.g. birds, fish, ants, bees, fireflies. This paper discusses the merging of two optimization algorithms, atom search optimization and particle swarm optimization, to create a hybrid algorithm called hybrid atom search particle swarm optimization (h-ASPSO). Atom search optimization is an algorithm inspired by the movement of atoms in nature, which employs interaction forces and neighbor interaction to guide each atom in the population. On the other hand, particle swarm optimization is a swarm intelligence algorithm that uses a population of particles to search for the optimal solution through a social learning process. The proposed algorithm aims to reach exploration-exploitation balance to improve search efficiency. The efficacy of h-ASPSO has been demonstrated in improving the time-domain performance of two high-order real-world engineering problems: the design of a proportional-integral-derivative controller for an automatic voltage regulator and a doubly fed induction generator-based wind turbine systems. The results show that h-ASPSO outperformed the original atom search optimization in terms of convergence speed and quality of solution and can provide more promising results for different high-order engineering systems without significantly increasing the computational cost. Data-driven control methods are strong tools due to their predictions for controlling the systems with a nonlinear dynamic model. In this paper, the Koopman operator is used to linearize the nonlinear dynamic model. Generating the Koopman operator is the most important part of using the Koopman theory. Dynamic mode decomposition (DMD) is used to obtain eigenfunction for producing the Koopman operator. Then, a fractional order PID (FOPID) controller is applied to control the linearized dynamic model. A swarm intelligence bat optimization algorithm is utilized to tune the FOPID controller's parameters. Simulation results on micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) gyroscope under conventional PID controller, FOPID, Koopman-based FOPID controller (Koopman-FOPID), and Koopman-FOPID control optimized by bat algorithm (Koopman-BAFOPID) show that the proposed Koopman-BAFOPID controller has better performance in comparison with three other controllers in terms of high tracking performance, low tracking error, and low control efforts. Multi‐objective optimization problems frequently appear in many diverse research areas and application domains. Metaheuristics, as efficient techniques to solve them, need to be easily accessible to users with different expertise and programming skills. In this context, metaheuristic optimization frameworks are helpful, as they provide popular algorithms, customizable components and additional facilities to conduct experiments. Due to the broad range of available tools, this paper presents a systematic evaluation and experimental comparison of 10 frameworks, covering from multi‐purpose, consolidated tools to recent libraries specifically designed for multi‐objective optimization. The evaluation is organized around seven characteristics: search components and techniques, configuration, execution, utilities, external support and community, software implementation and performance. An analysis of code metrics and a series of experiments serves to assess the last two features. Lesson learned and open issues are also discussed as part of the comparative study. The outcomes of the evaluation process reveal a contrasted support to recent advances in multi‐objective optimization, with a lack of novel algorithms and variety of metaheuristics other than evolutionary algorithms. This paper concerns the problem of vibration reduction during milling. For this purpose, it is proposed that the standard supports of the workpiece be replaced with adjustable stiffness supports. This affects the modal parameters of the whole system, i.e., object and its supports, which is essential from the point of view of the relative tool–workpiece vibrations. To reduce the vibration level during milling, it is necessary to appropriately set the support stiffness coefficients, which are obtained from numerous milling process simulations. The simulations utilize the model of the workpiece with adjustable supports in the convention of a Finite Element Model (FEM) and a dynamic model of the milling process. The FEM parameters are tuned based on modal tests of the actual workpiece. For assessing simulation results, the proper indicator of vibration level must be selected, which is also discussed in the paper. However, simulating the milling process is time consuming and the total number of simulations needed to search the entire available range of support stiffness coefficients is large. To overcome this issue, the artificial intelligence salp swarm algorithm is used. Finally, for the best combination of stiffness coefficients, the vibration reduction is obtained and a significant reduction in search time for determining the support settings makes the approach proposed in the paper attractive from the point of view of practical applications. Chinese traditional culture is a typical "moral culture," and traditional morality is the core and essence of culture. However, in recent years, the phenomenon of following the trend of rural construction has been particularly serious, and many villages have lost their original features. To solve the above problems, the genetic algorithm can be used to further explore the traditional culture of urbanization construction. A genetic algorithm is a natural evolutionary process that imitates natural selection and genetic operation in nature to obtain optimal solution, in which genetic operation mainly includes the processes of gene replication, crossover, and mutation. This paper studies the traditional culture of urbanization construction based on the genetic algorithm under the concept of environmental protection. Among the accuracy of urban construction land expansion, in 2018, the accuracy of ant colony algorithm, data mining algorithm, and particle swarm optimization algorithm is 58%, 51.8%, and 56.7%, respectively. The accuracy of this genetic algorithm is as high as 58.8%. It can be seen that the genetic algorithm in this paper has the highest accuracy in the expansion of urban construction land. Therefore, in the process of large-scale urbanization based on the genetic algorithm, we should pay attention to not being separated from traditional culture, not letting farmers lose their regional culture, local culture, and grassroots culture, and protecting the cultural-ecological environment on which these cultures depend. By considering how to construct the best path, several related issues need to be taken into account, that relate to safety, obstacle avoidance, response speed to overtake obstacles, etc. Swarm optimization algorithms have been used to provide intelligent modeling for drone path planning and enable to build the best path for each drone. This is done according to the planning and coordination dimensions among the swarm members. In this paper, we have discussed the features and characteristics of different swarm optimization algorithms such as ant colony optimization (ACO), fruit fly optimization algorithm (FOA), artificial bee colony (ABC), and particle swarm optimization (PSO). Edge computing is a novel technology, which is closely related to the concept of Internet of Things. This technology brings computing resources closer to the location where they are consumed by end-users—to the edge of the cloud. In this way, response time is shortened and lower network bandwidth is utilized. Workflow scheduling must be addressed to accomplish these goals. In this paper, we propose an enhanced firefly algorithm adapted for tackling workflow scheduling challenges in a cloud-edge environment. Our proposed approach overcomes observed deficiencies of original firefly metaheuristics by incorporating genetic operators and quasi-reflection-based learning procedure. First, we have validated the proposed improved algorithm on 10 modern standard benchmark instances and compared its performance with original and other improved state-of-the-art metaheuristics. Secondly, we have performed simulations for a workflow scheduling problem with two objectives—cost and makespan. We performed comparative analysis with other state-of-the-art approaches that were tested under the same experimental conditions. Algorithm proposed in this paper exhibits significant enhancements over the original firefly algorithm and other outstanding metaheuristics in terms of convergence speed and results' quality. Based on the output of conducted simulations, the proposed improved firefly algorithm obtains prominent results and managed to establish improvement in solving workflow scheduling in cloud-edge by reducing makespan and cost compared to other approaches. The dramatic increase in the capabilities and availability of autonomous ground and aerial tools introduces safety and security challenges, particularly in protecting strategic infrastructures. In this context, the interception of multiple mobile threats, aiming to invade restricted spaces of such infrastructures is an important topic. This paper focuses on the problem of path planning for intercepting multiple aerial targets by a swarm of UAVs. 3D path planning for interception of moving targets is a challenging task, in particular when the interception is performed by a swarm of UAVs, as there are multiple kinematic and dynamic constraints. The aim is first to allocate targets to the individual UAVs (task assignment) and to construct a 3D path for each one. Many algorithms have been recognized as noble schemes for solving this kind of problems based on Swarm Intelligence (SI), many of them are based on biological systems such as particle swarm optimization (PSO), ant colony optimization (ACO), artificial bee colony optimization (ABC), bat-inspired algorithm (BA), etc. The paper presents a comprehensive review of SI algorithms centered on the problems related to 3D path planning for target interception by a swarm of UAVs. It also focuses on the improvement of existing SI algorithms for better path optimization. A comprehensive investigation for each algorithm is presented by analyzing its merits and demerits in the context of target interception. Based on the principle of particle swarm algorithm and support vector machine, this article aims to improve the classification performance of college English teaching effect and explores the best support vector machine parameter optimization algorithm to promote college English teaching for the theory and application research of data analysis. First, the advantages and disadvantages of common support vector machine parameter selection methods such as grid search algorithm, gradient descent method, and swarm intelligence algorithm are studied. Secondly, this article has a detailed analysis and comparison of various other algorithms. Finally, the study analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of the quantum particle swarm algorithm, introduced the dual-center idea into the quantum particle swarm algorithm, and proposed an improved quantum particle swarm algorithm. Through simulation experiments, it is proved that the improved quantum particle swarm algorithm is more superior in optimizing the parameters of support vector machine. In general, this paper uses the PSO algorithm to simultaneously solve the SVM feature selection and parameter optimization problems and has achieved good results. Aiming at the problems of slow convergence speed and easy to fall into local optimum of SSA, this paper proposed an improved salp swarm algorithm combing information feedback sharing and mayfly search mechanism. Firstly, it used piecewise chaos to initialize the population to make the initial salps more evenly cover the feasible space. It adopted the information sharing mechanism to propose an auxiliary leader strategy, in order to improve the leader position update formula, and enhance the global search ability. It used the evolutionary theory and the idea of positive and negative feedback regulation, selecting better leaders through mutation operation and natural selection, so as to improve the search ability precision. Finally, it put forward the mayfly search mechanism, selected the mating formula of the mayfly algorithm to optimize the iterative formula of the follower position and make the algorithm converge faster in the later stage. Experiments on 12 benchmark functions and 17 CEC test functions prove the comprehensive performance of the improved salp population algorithm, and the ablation experiments verifiy the effectiveness of the improved strategy. Many important computational applications in science, engineering, industry, and technology are represented by PSE (parameter sweep experiment) applications. These applications involve a large number of resource-intensive and independent computational tasks. Because of this, cloud autoscaling approaches have been proposed to execute PSE applications on public cloud environments that offer instances of different VM (virtual machine) types, under a pay-per-use scheme, to execute diverse applications. One of the most recent approaches is the autoscaler MOEA (multiobjective evolutive algorithm), which is based on the multiobjective evolutionary algorithm NSGA-II (nondominated sorting genetic algorithm II). MOEA considers on-demand and spot VM instances and three optimization objectives relevant for users: minimizing the computing time, monetary cost, and spot instance interruptions of the application's execution. However, MOEA's performance regarding these optimization objectives depends significantly on the optimization algorithm used. It has been shown recently that MOEA's performance improves considerably when NSGA-II is replaced by a more recent algorithm named NSGA-III. In this paper, we analyze the incorporation of other multiobjective optimization algorithms into MOEA to enhance the performance of this autoscaler. First, we consider three multiobjective optimization algorithms named E-NSGA-III (extreme NSGA-III), SMS-EMOA (S-metric selection evolutionary multiobjective optimization algorithm), and SMPSO (speed-constrained multiobjective particle swarm optimization), which have behavioral differences with NSGA-III. Then, we evaluate the performance of MOEA with each of these algorithms, considering the three optimization objectives, on four real-world PSE applications from the meteorology and molecular dynamics areas, considering different application sizes. To do that, we use the well-known CloudSim simulator and consider different VM types available in Amazon EC2. Finally, we analyze the obtained performance results, which show that MOEA with E-NSGA-III arises as the best alternative, reaching better and significant savings in terms of computing time (10%–17%), monetary cost (10%–40%), and spot instance interruptions (33%–100%).
