In light of the carbon neutrality goals set post-Paris Climate Conference (COP21), this study delves into the relationship between green technology innovations, energy consumption, and CO2 emissions in China, spanning the period of 1990 to 2021. The objective of this paper is to creatively present the idea of a low-carbon digital economy from the viewpoint of digital technology. Utilizing the Stochastic Impacts by Regression on Population, Affluence, and Technology (STIRPAT) model, we scrutinize this relationship, employing unit-root testing to verify the integrative attributes of the variables, inclusive of structural break data. Further analysis using the bootstrap Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) bound testing method corroborates the relationship between these key variables. The study reveals unidirectional co-integration over time among green technology innovations, renewable and non-renewable energy, per capita income, population, and CO2 emissions as per the Granger causality test. Interestingly, our findings suggest that while green technology innovation, per capita income, and renewable energy contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions, non-renewable energy consumption and population growth exacerbate them. These insights offer valuable guidance for policymakers in formulating comprehensive strategies to enhance environmental quality through the promotion of renewable energy and green technology innovations, with a specific emphasis on the Chinese context. The atmospheric concentration of CO2 is steadily increasing and causing climate change. To achieve the Paris 1.5 or 2°C target, negative emission technologies must be deployed in addition to reducing carbon emissions. The ocean is a large carbon sink but the potential of marine primary producers to contribute to carbon neutrality remains unclear.Here we review the alterations to carbon capture and sequestration of marine primary producers (including traditional 'blue carbon' plants, microalgae and macroalgae) in the Anthropocene, and, for the first time, assess and compare the potential of various marine primary producers to carbon neutrality and climate change mitigation via biogeoengineering approaches.The contributions of marine primary producers to carbon sequestration have been decreasing in the Anthropocene due to the decrease in biomass driven by direct anthropogenic activities and climate change. The potential of blue carbon plants (mangroves, saltmarshes and seagrasses) is limited by the available areas for their revegetation. Microalgae appear to have a large potential due to their ubiquity but how to enhance their carbon sequestration efficiency is very complex and uncertain. On the other hand, macroalgae can play an essential role in mitigating climate change through extensive offshore cultivation due to higher carbon sequestration capacity and substantial available areas. This approach seems both technically and economically feasible due to the development of offshore aquaculture and a well‐established market for macroalgal products.Synthesis and applications. This paper provides new insights and suggests promising directions for utilizing marine primary producers to achieve the Paris temperature target. We propose that macroalgae cultivation can play an essential role in attaining carbon neutrality and climate change mitigation, although its ecological impacts need to be assessed further. Purpose: Carbon offsetting is one of the tools that companies can use to achieve their climate targets. The ability of a company to offset its emissions successfully depends on the availability and quality of guidance on the subject. This study explores how well existing offsetting guidelines equip corporations to achieve successful emissions offsetting. Methods: Instructional criteria were developed and used to evaluate seven guidelines. The contents of each guideline were assessed based on how they instruct a company to achieve emissions offsetting that fulfills five criteria for appropriate offsetting: target affiliation, Paris compatibility, effectiveness, prioritizing removals, and transparency. Results and discussion: The review revealed that necessary instructions enabling appropriate emissions offsetting were absent in the guidelines. Moreover, the degree of climate ambition and the role of offsetting varied between guidelines. Deficiencies in emissions offsetting guidance may increase the uncertainty of companies' succeeding in offsetting their emissions. Conclusions: Developing guidance on emissions offsetting could benefit society and corporations by increasing the certainty of achieving successful emissions offsetting. Standardizing corporate emissions offsetting could be considered as one solution for unifying the practice. According to the Paris agreement and the European climate law, carbon neutrality should be achieved by 2050. Therefore, the long-term planning of energy production and the development of green energy have become indispensable research topics in recent years. Due to the unstable production and high cost of green energy, the mechanisms of operating reserve and subsidy should be included in the energy management system. In this paper, we proposed a Call Auction-based Energy Management System (CAEMS) that manages energy using economic theories and dynamic control mechanisms. We use production theory to determine the amount of energy produced, which takes into account the market equilibrium price of supply and demand curves. Then, a dynamic operating reserve rate is designed and embedded in the demand curve to ensure energy stability. An adaptive and self-financing subsidy is proposed to gradually achieve the target energy distribution. Simulation results show that the CAEMS has outstanding improvements in convergence day (42% reduction), mean absolute error (MAE) of supply distribution (1.2% in each type), and extremely low MAE of operating reserve rate (3.2%) and failure rate (0.03%). • Adopt economic theories and dynamic control mechanisms to manage energy markets. • A dynamic operating reserve ratio is developed for energy efficiency and stability. • The adaptive and self-financing subsidy achieves the targeted energy distribution. • Outstanding improvements are achieved in convergence and MAE supply distribution. Continuous rise in a global economy with a 3–4% annual growth rate poses a severe risk to environmental sustainability due to high energy demand. Since the Paris climate accord, countries worldwide have implemented numerous strategies to attain the target of carbon neutrality. With the rising environmental challenges, it is important to consider global financial inclusion (F.I.) policies. This study uses panel data for the B.R.I.C.S. countries to investigate the impact of F.I. and energy efficiency in limiting trade adjusted emissions (T.A.E.) taking technological innovation and trade as control variables. This study uses panel data consisting small sample size and large time period; therefore, keeping in mind the potential econometric problems, this study uses AMG method, which can efficiently deal with endogeneity problems and small sample bias. We find a positive impact of F.I. and energy efficiency on CO2 emissions. Moreover, we find that technological innovation, exports and output amplify CO2 emissions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
