Delays and cost overruns in turnkey projects can lead to significant economic losses, disputes and even project abandonment. These facts negatively impact the environmental, social and governance (ESG) policies of companies involved in the project. In this paper, a bibliographic review was conducted to identify the leading causes of delays and cost overruns in turnkey industrial projects in the refining, gas and conventional electricity generation (RGE) sector and propose good practices to avoid or mitigate them. We identified 893 causes of delays and cost overruns and 147 mitigation measures. The causes and mitigation measures were grouped into eight categories based on the execution phases of an RGE project. A critical analysis was carried out to avoid duplication, and the result was evaluated by experts in turnkey project management, reducing the causes and mitigation measures to a final set of 103 and 49, respectively. The construction category showed the most significant influence on project delays and cost overruns, and this, together with the preliminary phase and project management categories, contributed to 60% of the identified causes. This paper presents the results of a 3D computer simulation of the combustion processes of gas particles (methane) in turbulent flow by applying numerical methods for calculating complex turbulent flows. The numerical model for calculating turbulent reacting flow is based on the filtered equations of conservation of mass, momentum, and internal energy using a spatial filter for calculating and modeling complex vortex structures. Aerodynamic, temperature and thermal characteristics of the flow were obtained based on the study on the influence of the Sauter mean radius of methane particles on its distribution and combustion processes. 3D visualization of the reacting flow was obtained considering the degree of its turbulence and the intensity of methane particle collision on the area of its distribution. The obtained results can be used for a deep understanding of the theory of gas combustion, in combustion chambers of various thermophysical objects and as an alternative to liquid hydrocarbon fuels due to safety and low harmful load of methane on the environment. In this study, the devolatilization behavior of eastern Mediterranean hazelnut, almond, and sunflower residue was studied using a TGA–FTIR laboratory-scale setup. The original biomasses were fractionated using the Van Soest detergent analysis. Both the original and fractionated biomasses were investigated. The reaction temperature was increased to 900 °C using a heating rate of 2 °Cmin−1. The pyrolysis of lignin produced the largest gas production, with CO2 constituting up the bulk of the gas mixture. CO is the second highest-yield gas and is primarily formed from the samples of cellulose and lignin. For the lignin samples, the pyrolysis operation yielded the maximum amount of char, while the combustion of the lignin chars produced the highest amount of gas yields. On the other hand, lignin samples, particularly almond lignin, have the lowest tar production. Due to the high ash content the sunflower stalk sample devolatilized at a lower temperature with respect to the rest of the samples, resulting at a mass loss peak at lower temperature. The hazelnut lignin showed the mass loss peak at the highest temperature. Generally, CO2 showed the highest mass yield, and it was mainly produced from the cellulose and whole biomass samples. Among all samples CH4 was produced in minor quantities and mostly in lignin devolatilization. Furthermore, the devolatilization behavior of the fractionated biopolymers is not enough to sufficiently predict the behavior of the whole biomass sample. The results described in this paper can help further the understanding of thermal processes where almond, hazelnut, and sunflower residues from the eastern Mediterranean region, and their fractionated-derived products are involved. Methane dexterity and degasification in heavily stratified subsurface water aquifers sandwiched with coal seams surreptitiously expedited the recent fire explosion in Enugu State, South Eastern Nigeria. The verisimilitude is to divulge the non-availability of coal bed methane (CBM) reservoir engineering modeling technology. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the didactic, luminous and effective volubility of CBM reservoir engineering modeling techniques for extrication of the wellbore fire explosion paradox in Enugu state, Nigeria. The Schlumberger Eclipse simulated reservoir has a dimension of 8 ×8×2 with dual porosity of 0.05 and 0.15 located at depths of 1,000ft, 1,200ft and 1,400ft. Results inconceivably showed improvement in coal quality by 72.83% in the y direction indicating increased methane palpitation upsurge in that direction. Results of initial 40% CO2 isotherm fracture gas gave a cumulative maximum field gas pressure (FPR) of 540psi for the 1,400ft model. This indicates higher gas volatility with shallow depths. It is admonished to critically evaluate aquifers in zones deeper than 700ft to forestall future petrifying devastating occurrences triggered by maladroitness. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The oil and gas (O&G) sector is a critical energy infrastructure to a Nation's welfare. As developed as the O&G industry may seem, its aging infrastructure gradually shows numerous challenges to keep up with the growing energy demand, increasing operation costs, and environmental concerns. A robust O&G infrastructure that is risk-free, reliable, and resilient towards expected or unexpected threats can offer an uninterrupted supply of O&G to downstream stakeholders, competitive prices to customers, and better environmental footprints. With the shift towards renewable energy, the notion of sustainable development should be firmly embedded in O&G infrastructure and operations to facilitate the smooth transition towards future renewable energy generation. This paper offers a comprehensive and innovative approach to achieving sustainable development for O&G infrastructure by examining it from a holistic risk, reliability, and resilience (3Rs) perspective. The role of each individual concept and their collective influence on sustainable development in the O&G industry will be thoroughly discussed. Moreover, this paper will highlight the significant impact of the holistic 3Rs approach on sustainable development and propose future research directions. Purpose. Research is aimed at integrating multi-stage hydraulic fracturing in horizontal wells with hydrodynamic simulation as a mandatory part of planning the mining of any shale oil or gas reservoir. Methods. Geological and hydrodynamic reservoir modeling is part of the research. The properties and geometries of the hydraulic fracture network and its representation in the dynamic reservoir model were assessed. The comparative characterization was carried out based on the two methods of fracture modeling: cell dimension reduction for explicit fracture modeling (LGR - local grid refinement) and implicit fracture modeling method, presented in this paper, with additional pseudo-connections between well and reservoir. Findings. A hydrodynamic model for low-permeable reservoir, produced by horizontal well, hydraulically fractured with 5 stages, has been generated. This model is calibrated to the production history and flowing bottom hole pressure by applying two methods of fracture modeling. Modeling results show that it is possible to replicate historical well production by using both methods. However, the proposed method with pseudo connections has several advantages compared to the generally accepted, local grid refinement (LGR) method. Originality. For the first time, a system of pseudo connections between well and reservoir was constructed to model a multi-stage hydraulic fracturing for a hydrodynamic model of tight reservoir. Hydrodynamic simulation results were refined and calibrated to the history of hydrocarbon production and flowing bottom hole pressure data using the pseudo-connections and LGR methods. The similarity of the results by applying LGR and pseudo-connections methods was revealed. Practical implications. The use of pseudo connections for hydraulic fracturing modeling can reduce simulation run time for cases where multi-stage hydraulic fracturing has already been carried out or is planned in the future. Additionally, the use of this method allows testing a larger number of realizations and scenarios, including hydraulic fracturing design (number of stages, size and conductivity of resulted fracture systems, fracture orientation, etc.), well placement and fracture growth relative to well trajectory. Blockchainsand smart contracts are pivotal in transforming interactions between systems and individuals, offering secure, immutable, and transparent trust-building mechanisms without central oversight. However, Smart Contracts face limitations due to their reliance on blockchain-contained data, a gap addressed by 'Oracles'. These bridges to external data sources introduce the 'Oracle problem', where maintaining blockchain-like security and transparency becomes vital to prevent data integrity issues. This paper presents Veritas, a novel decentralized oracle system leveraging a layer-2 scaling solution, enhancing smart contracts' efficiency and security on Ethereum blockchains. The proposed architecture, explored through simulation and experimental analyses, significantly reduces operational costs while maintaining robust security protocols. An innovative node selection process is also introduced to minimize the risk of malicious data entry, thereby reinforcing network security. Veritas offers a solution to the Oracle problem by aligning with blockchain principles of security and transparency, and demonstrates advancements in reducing operational costs and bolstering network integrity. Currently, it remains unclear why some children develop invasive group A Streptococcus (iGAS) and how to manage this condition. Therefore, to explore available works in the literature, we performed a scoping review aiming to analyze the current literature on clinical presentation of different illnesses outcomes of iGAS, with a specific focus on predictors of invasive infection, including an assessment of the prodromal stages of the disease and the possible presence of previous non-invasive GAS infections in children that later developed iGAS. Methods: We conducted a systematic search on PubMed and SCOPUS of all pediatric studies reporting iGAS cases, following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) checklist. For those studies in which multivariable analysis investigating iGAS risk factors was performed, a second review was performed and reported in detail. Results: A total of 209 studies were included. Five studies investigated risk factors for iGAS, the most relevant being varicella infection, chronic underlying illness, presence of the speC gene in GAS strains, acetaminophen and ibuprofen use, children nonwhite, living in low-income households, exposure to varicella at home, persistent high fever, having more than one other child in the home, and new use of NSAIDs. Although we observed a progressive increase in the number of papers published on this topic, no trials investigating the benefits of clindamycin or intravenous immunoglobulins were found and low-to-middle-income countries were found to be poorly represented in the current literature. Conclusions: Our scoping review highlights important gaps regarding several aspects of iGAS in children, including prodromic presentation and optimal treatment strategies. There is also little representation of low–middle-income countries. The current literature does not allow the performance of systematic reviews or meta-analyses, but this work should inform healthcare professionals, policy makers, and funding agencies on which studies to prioritize on this topic. Context: To lessen the impact of the dangerous metal Cr, this paper applies the first principles to investigate the adsorption behavior and photoelectric properties of GaS on Cr. The effects of doped GaS on Cr adsorption behavior are investigated with four GaS systems, which are pure, boron (B)-doped, nitrogen (N)-doped, and oxygen (O)-doped, in order to maximize the characteristics of GaS for use in novel sectors, to obtain understanding of the impact of doping on the electronic structure and optical properties of GaS adsorption of Cr, as well as to promote the development of the material. Four GaS adsorbed Cr systems, pure, B-doped, N-doped, and O-doped, are optimized, and the optimized results show that the stable adsorption position of Cr on both pure and doped GaS is the top position of Ga atoms, whereas doped elements B, N, and O can promote the adsorption of Cr on GaS, and the order of the strength of this promotion is B > N > O. Method: In this paper, molecular simulation calculations and analyses using the CASTEP module in the software Materials Studio are performed to simulate the structure optimization of GaS-adsorbed Cr materials doped with B, N, and O atoms by using the generalized gradient approximation (GGA) plane-wave pseudopotential approach [1] and the Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof (PBE) generalized function [2]. From the convergence test, it is reasonable to set the K-point network to 4 × 4 × 1 and the truncation energy to 500 eV [3]. In this paper, a 3 × 3 × 1 supercell structure with 18 S atoms and 18 Ga atoms is selected. The convergence value of the iterative accuracy is 1.0e − 5 eV/atom, and all the atomic forces are less than 0.02 eV/Å. A vacuum layer of 16 Å is also set in the C direction to avoid interlayer interactions of GaS. Background: Jet fires and boiling liquid expanding vapour explosions (BLEVEs) are potential events when a vessel containing liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is exposed to fire. Events involving domestic LPG tanks have occurred at wildland–urban interface areas in Portugal, the USA, Spain and Greece. Aims: Evaluation of the pressure relief device (PRD), the type of cylinder and the effects of jet fires and BLEVEs. Methods: LPG cylinders manufactured with steel and composite materials were exposed to fire. Hydrostatic tests were carried out to compare the burst pressure without fire influence. Fourteen accidents that occurred during wildfires are described. Key results: The presence of a PRD and the right choice of type of cylinder as well as cylinder location may avert major accidents. The jet fires and fireball radiation are also described, as well as the maximum distance reached by cylinder fragments. Conclusions: The tests showed that the burst pressure in the test of a cylinder without PRD under fire was significantly lower when compared with the hydrostatic tests. Implications: Lastly, recommendations to avoid accidents are made. In the present experimental study, 14 accidents related to LPG stored at the wildland–urban interface that occurred during wildfires are described. Tests with LPG cylinders exposed to fire using forest fuels were done to evaluate the safety devices and effects of explosions and jet fire. The coincidence of high levels of variable, non-dispatchable generation from renewable energy sources (RESs) and congested electricity networks imposes significant constraint payments (CP) on electricity system operators (ESOs) which ultimately is charged to the customers. This paper is inspired by this challenge and proposes an integrated electricity, gas, and transportation energy system taking advantage of power-to-gas (P2G) facilities and electricity/gas storage devices to enhance operational efficiency. It proposes mobile gas storage systems (MGSs) that can store and carry liquid hydrogen or liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the load points or remote locations without access to the gas network. So, the green energy of RESs in the form of gases can be injected, transported, and reutilized in the natural gas network or stored in MGS facilities. Besides, the mobile electricity storage system (MES) can directly store the redundant electricity produced by RESs, and the railway transportation system carries both the MESs and MGSs to the load point of electrical and gas systems. The proposed model reflects CP to wind in the marketing phase and considers incentives for the hydrogen-burning generators. Also, a stochastic platform is employed to capture the inherent uncertainties in the predicted values of the load and RESs’ generation. The model is formulated as a mixed-integer second-order cone programming problem and tested on an IEEE 118-bus system integrated with a 14-node gas network and a railway system. The result shows that employing the multi-vector energy system (MVES) elements reduces the total operational cost by 47%, and the CP to wind is reduced by 99.8% by absorbing almost the whole green energy of wind farms while relieving congestion in the electrical grid. The employment of graphene for multifunctional uses has been a cornerstone in sensing technology. Due to its excellent electrochemical properties, graphene has been used in its pure and composite forms to detect target molecules over a wide range of surfaces. The adsorption process on the graphene-based sensors has been studied in terms of the change in resistance and capacitance values for various industrial and environmental applications. This paper highlights the performance of graphene-based sensors for detecting different kinds of domestic and industrial gases. These graphene-based gas sensors have achieved enhanced output in terms of sensitivity and working range due to specific experimental parameters, such as elevated temperature, presence of particular gas-specific layers and integration with specific nanomaterials that assist with the adsorption of gases. The presented research work has been classified based on the physical nature of graphene used in conjugation with other processed materials. The detection of five different types of gases, including carbon dioxide (CO2), ammonia (NH3), hydrogen sulphide (H2S), nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and ethanol (C2H5OH) has been shown in the paper. This paper proposes a new risk measurement model that directly incorporate information from high‐frequency data to predict daily Value‐at‐Risk and expected shortfall. In this model, Regular‐Vine copula and Monte Carlo simulation are applied to produce the predicted intraday returns that have nonlinear dependences. And the time‐varying marginal distribution of intraday returns is estimated under the framework of generalized autoregressive score. The model is so named R‐Vine‐Copula‐GAS (abbreviated as RVCGAS). The predicted intraday returns in the same day are added up to obtain the daily return and form its empirical distribution. The risk measurements are then calculated based on this simulated distribution. An empirical analysis is conducted using data from the index in China's stock market and some of its constituents, and the effects of the proposed model and several Benchmark models are compared through some backtestings. The results show that RVCGAS has an advantage over others in predicting tail risk when the risk level is high, since it could cover more risky returns and reduce more costs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The natural seismic background of the Earth and its deep emission component are a form of dissipation of energy of geodynamic processes. The methods of studying the seismic background as a signal generated by an open complex non-linear system (the Earth's crust) can be grouped under one branch—dissipative seismicity. In this paper, one of such methods, namely, the thermodynamic indicator of the state of rocks, is used for the remote evaluation of the local productivity of the reservoir on the hydrocarbon deposit site. The thermodynamic indicator was created using the Klimontovich entropy and yields quantitative estimates of the local disequilibrium of rocks associated with the activity of geophysical processes. We revealed monotonic, near-linear relationship between the thermodynamic indicator values calculated using the seismic background records and the cumulative thickness of productive layers in the wells in close proximity to recording points. The thermodynamic indicator is calculated assuming that there is a sliding time window threshold that must be taken empirically. The obtained results show that the thermodynamic indicator can be effectively used for outlining the deposit boundaries and choosing the potentially most productive well drilling points by extrema in the indicator value field. With the increase in intelligent voice phishing and the increasing reliance on open banking systems, there has been a rise in cases where individuals' personal information has been exposed, resulting in significant financial losses for the victims. Non-face-to-face transactions in the financial sector face challenges such as customer identification, ensuring transaction integrity and preventing transaction rejection. Blockchain-based distributed ledgers have been proposed as a solution but their adoption is limited due to the difficulty of managing private keys and the burden of gas fees management. This paper proposes a non-face-to-face P2P real-time token payment system that minimizes the risk of key loss by storing private keys in a keystore file and database through a server-based key management module. The proposed system simplifies token creation and management through a server-based token management module and implements an automatic gas-charging function for smooth token transactions. Transaction integrity and non-repudiation are ensured through a transaction confirmation module that uses transaction IDs without exposing personal information. Furthermore, advanced security measures such as blocking foreign IP access and DDoS defense are implemented to securely protect user data. The proposed system aims to provide a convenient, secure and accessible online payment solution to the public by implementing a self-authentication function using a web application that is not limited to smartphones or application platforms. The Russian Invasion of Ukraine (2022) had a catastrophic impact on Lebanon which was already suffering from grave economic problems. Since day one, Lebanon has supported Ukraine and asked for the withdrawal of the Russian forces. The war has left negative impacts on Lebanon, raising particular concerns about famine due to a sharp rise in the food and oil prices. However, this war has also presented Lebanon with a pleasant surprise. For the first time in two decades, Lebanon and Israel have agreed to secure a maritime border deal through US-led mediation, which will allow both countries to extract gas from their marine deposits. The deadlocked negotiations were suddenly resumed because of this war and the acute energy crisis in Europe. Lebanese and Israeli gas is expected to replace Russian gas on the European market. The paper investigated the problem of selecting/finding the optimal process conditions for gas condensate wells. The well process conditions imply a set of parameters that characterize its operation. The optimization of process conditions provides for the efficient operation of an oil and gas field while meeting the defined boundary and initial conditions, and allows for the process/production goal to be achieved. This paper proposed using the tree-structured Parzen estimator (TPE), which allows for the results from previous iterations to be considered, in order to identify the most promising region of conditions, thereby increasing the optimization efficiency. The movement of multiphase fluid inside the pipeline system (also in the borehole) must be calculated to solve the process optimization problem. The optimization module was integrated into the hydraulic and unsteady state multiphase flow calculations inside the well and the pipeline. The platform created allows for the process conditions at gas condensate fields to be identified via the use of numerical methods. The proposed optimization algorithm was tested in delivering the task of optimizing the process conditions in 13 producing wells in a part of a real gas condensate field in Western Siberia. The purpose of the following article is to present the situation of the energy market from a household perspective between 2010 and 2020 in selected EU countries (the group of member states which joined EU after 2004). The selected countries when joining the EU had similar economic indicators and to some extent were similar in other macro-economic situations (personal income, unemployment rate, GDP level and annual growth). This article analyzes the past and current situation of the household ability expenditure on electricity and energy resources (petrol—eurosuper 95 and diesel and natural gas), taking into account price, tax conditions and the real possibility to purchase the analyzed energy sources (based on annual net salaries). The paper includes the conclusions and prospects for the future. The main objective of the study is to determine the ability amount of expenditure on electricity, natural gas and liquid fuels by household in the countries that joined the European Union after 2004. The specific objectives of the work include: the evolution of retail prices of energy sources in those countries and prices of electricity, natural gas and liquid fuels—petrol and diesel oil—in the research period from 2010 to 2020. The element that influences the final price, as assessed in this paper, is the share of taxes and compulsory charges imposed by the EU countries covered in this study. The result of the study presented inter alia that energy consumption structure did not change significantly, electricity prices were steadily growing in the countries under assessment, the use of liquid fuels—petrol and diesel oil—in the countries under study, grew over the study period. Furthermore, prices of fuel fluctuated over the period from 2010 to 2020 and during the COVID-19 pandemic, which broke out in March 2020, but did not cause any significant changes in the prices of energy carriers in the analyzed period, apart from the declines in the prices of eurosuper 95 and diesel. Polling system is not trusted everywhere around the world it is very important in this modern world to replace the traditional polling system with the new technology. Some countries like United States, Japan, and India suffer from corrupted polling system. Major issues are faced by current polling systems like system hacking, vote rigging, vote manipulation, distributed denial of service attack, and online polling booth capturing. This paper will lead to the problems faced by the traditional polling system and how the new technology will provide the solution to that problem. Also, our purpose is to check the feasibility of the system by recording the transaction fees and evaluate the right way to spend the amount of gas in the transaction. This will highlight blockchain frameworks including blockchain as a service and polling system which is on blockchain that addresses all constraint introducing ethereum which is a blockchain-based distributed computing platform. Ethereum is open source, and publicly available with a system featuring smart contracts. It provides the cryptocurrency wallets that let you make cheap, instant payments with gas in the form of ethers. There has been a steady growth in the length of pipelines over the past 45 years, with over 6000 operating platforms extracting oil. Several facilities would reach their operational life, which can no longer be economically viable for their production and will eventually undergo the decommissioning procedure. Almost 3000 petroleum industries will likely be decommissioned worldwide in the next 17 years. By 2030, the total cost of decommissioning globally amounted to about USD 104.5 billion. The choice to decommission the offshore oil and gas sector is considered complicated and crucial as it must evaluate numerous variables such as cost, health and safety, and environmental consequences. This review paper aims to assess the decommissioning activity, specifically on pipelines in the oil and gas industry. The purpose of this study is to understand and evaluate significant environmental impacts associated with decommissioning of oil pipelines and to propose mitigation measures to address the challenges of decommissioning. Waste disposal, a threat to biodiversity and air pollution, is a major environmental concern in decommissioning oil and gas pipelines. Among the decommissioning measures, leave in-situ has the lowest environmental impact while repurposing and recycling, with the application of environmental impact qualitatively and quantitatively by integrating 3D information models, mathematical models embedded in hydrodynamic models look promising for decommissioning. Gas is the transaction-fee metering system of the Ethereum network. Users of the network are required to select a gas price for submission with their transaction, creating a risk of overpaying or delayed/unprocessed transactions involved in this selection. In this work, we investigate data in the aftermath of the London Hard Fork and shed insight into the transaction dynamics of the network after this major fork. As such, this paper provides an update on work previous to 2019 on the link between EthUSD/BitUSD and gas price. For forecasting, we compare a novel combination of machine learning methods such as Direct-Recursive Hybrid LSTM, CNN-LSTM, and Attention-LSTM. These are combined with wavelet threshold denoising and matrix profile data processing toward the forecasting of block minimum gas price, on a 5-min timescale, over multiple lookaheads. As the first application of the matrix profile being applied to gas price data and forecasting that we are aware of, this study demonstrates that matrix profile data can enhance attention-based models; however, given the hardware constraints, hybrid models outperformed attention and CNN-LSTM models. The wavelet coherence of inputs demonstrates correlation in multiple variables on a 1-day timescale, which is a deviation of base free from gas price. A Direct-Recursive Hybrid LSTM strategy is found to outperform other models, with an average RMSE of 26.08 and R2 of 0.54 over a 50-min lookahead window compared to an RMSE of 26.78 and R2 of 0.452 in the best-performing attention model. Hybrid models are shown to have favorable performance up to a 20-min lookahead with performance being comparable to attention models when forecasting 25–50-min ahead. Forecasts over a range of lookaheads allow users to make an informed decision on gas price selection and the optimal window to submit their transaction in without fear of their transaction being rejected. This, in turn, gives more detailed insight into gas price dynamics than existing recommenders, oracles and forecasting approaches, which provide simple heuristics or limited lookahead horizons. This paper examines for the first time the relationship between CO2 emissions and the consumption of renewable and non-renewable energy in Uzbekistan, spanning the period 1985–2020. The analysis uses the Autoregressive Distributed Lags (ARDL) model to estimate the long-run dynamic multipliers and short-run elasticity coefficients of energy consumption variables. Economic factors, such as GDP, are excluded in the analysis as they may cause multicollinearity problems. The empirical results document that in the short- and long-run, hydropower (renewable) energy consumption negatively impacts CO2 emissions per capita, showing a unidirectional causal effect. As regards with non-renewable energy consumption, natural gas and oil energy consumption have a positive impact on CO2 emissions per capita both in the short and long run. Coal consumption positively impacts CO2 emissions in the short run, while it is negative in the long run. Policy measures to enhance the collection of energy from additional renewable energy sources, in particular hydropower, should be taken into account in order to increase the share of renewable energy, and thus, to compensate non-renewable energy consumption which is the main contributor to CO2 emissions. Moreover, solar and wind energy should be explicitly taken into consideration as an additional renewable energy source, which has the lack of attention by policymakers. Furthermore, policy actions, such as the involvement of the private sector into renewable energy projects and the implementation of effective carbon tax policies, could be further options to reduce CO2 emissions. The depletion of fossil fuels has led to a search for new methods of fuel and chemical production from biomass. One of the methods of converting biomass into valuable products is the process of pyrolysis. This process has been extensively researched in recent years due to the rising prices of energy and chemicals. This work contains basic information on the pyrolysis process concerning the individual components present in the biomass and the types of biomass used in the pyrolysis process. Particular attention was paid to sewage sludge, the management of which is a big challenge. The influence of the most important process parameters (temperature, heating rate, residence time of the solid and vapor, reaction atmosphere) on the pyrolysis products (char, oil, and gas) was presented. The paper presents an overview of the reactors used in the pyrolysis process, from slow to fast pyrolysis, together with their efficiency, advantages, and disadvantages. The analysis of the application of other thermochemical processes for producing the energy used in the process of pyrolysis and in the drying of the biomass was carried out. Introduction: During recent decades, Iran and Turkmenistan have become reliable neighbours. But when these two countries want to develop their cooperation in the field of energy and export their gas to Europe through Turkey, they face different obstacles and challenges in issues such as bilateral relations, the Turkish energy market and the European Union. The purpose of this research is to examine the situation of Iran and Turkmenistan in the field of energy and the issue of gas transit to Europe through Turkey. Research Question: The main question is, what are the opportunities and challenges of Turkmenistan gas transit from Iran and Turkey to Europe? Research Hypothesis: The hypothesis of this research is based on the positive relations between Turkey, Iran and Turkmenistan and the geopolitical position of Iran, the connection with the opportunities and sanctions of the United States on Iran's energy sector, Russia's pressure on Turkmenistan for the exclusive purchase of gas, which is the most important challenge for the transit of gas from Turkmenistan to Europe. Methodology (and theoretical framework if there are): In this paper, the qualitative research method for studying the hypothesis is based on Peter McLaughlin's functional explanation. The data collection tool is based on library and internet resources. The theoretical framework of this research is based on the regional system proposed by Louis Cantori and Steven Spiegel. By combining this framework with functionalism, it examines the cooperation and competition of governments and analyzes the factors of convergence and divergence in the relations of these countries. Results and Discussion: The analysis of this research shows that Iran and Turkmenistan have expanded their economic relations. The opening of the Mashhad-Sarkhs-Tajan railway lines and the Bafaq-Bandar Abbas railway line is considered as an important economic measure for the development of economic and trade relations between Iran and Turkmenistan. Also, the cooperation of the two countries in technical and engineering projects with numerous investments of Iranian technicians in this field has also been important. Iran and Turkmenistan pursue their economic cooperation within the framework of the Joint Economic Commission. The main export of goods from Iran is related to Turkmenistan, and since 2013, the volume of trade between the two countries has increased, especially with Khorasan Razavi Province.With 5900 industrial units, 46 mineral resources and approximately 800 mines, Khorasan Razavi province has a high rank in the production of products such as saffron, pistachios, pomegranates and medicinal plants and mainly exports these products to Turkmenistan. The implementation of the border-crossing-permit plan between Iran and Turkmenistan has also provided the basis for the movement of nationals of both countries in the border areas. Turkmenistan's gas reserves are scattered throughout the country. In addition to the huge gas resources and significant production in this country, the discovery of Yultan gas field near Iran's Daulatabad field has put Turkmenistan in the focus of Iran's attention. The desire of Iran and Turkmenistan to cooperate made Turkmenistan agree to the construction of the country's first pipeline in July 1995. The Kerpcheh-Kordkoy pipeline was built in 1997 at a cost of over $200 million to transport gas to northern Iran from the Kerpcheh gas field. With abundant gas resources, Turkmenistan negotiated with Iran to export gas from Iran to Europe via Turkey. Due to its geopolitical position, Turkey has become an energy pole and this has created an opportunity for this country to gain more economic benefits. The European Union (EU) has become heavily dependent on foreign energy resources in recent decades. Due to its geopolitical position, Turkey has become an energy hub that connects the Middle East, Russia and Europe. Many gas pipelines pass through Turkey, transporting gas from Central Asia and the Middle East to Europe. However, some of these pipeline projects have been suspended for some time. Turkey has given the green light to Iran's presence in the Turkish gas market (to Europe) and the Tabriz-Ankara pipeline operates in this direction. Conclusion: The findings indicate that first, long borders and economic capacities in Turkmenistan are like the gateway for Iran to enter this country and the two countries have cooperated in the field of natural gas transportation projects. Second, Turkmenistan's rich gas resources and various gas fields led this country to build the first Kerpcheh-Kordkoy gas pipeline with Iran, which met the gas consumption needs of Iran's northern provinces. Simultaneously with the construction of this pipeline, the issue of Turkmenistan gas transit from Iran to Turkey was raised so that Iran would receive transit rights. With Najmuddin Arbakan coming to power in Turkey in 1997, bilateral relations between Iran and Turkey improved significantly and Turkey's economic growth has led to an increasing need for gas imports. In this regard, Turkey has increased its gas transit pipelines in recent years. Europe's effort to diversify its gas imports from exporting countries and not relying only on Russia has provided the opportunity for Turkey to become the energy hub of the region by importing gas from Iran (and even other countries) and using its geopolitical position to re-export energy and gas to European markets. The improvement of relations between Iran and Turkey and the transit of gas to Europe have strengthened their economic growth, but the US sanctions against Iran and possible obstruction of gas exports by Iran in the case of incresing US pressure, may prevent them from making profits in their bilateral transactions. There is increasing interest in migrating to a carbon-neutral power system that relies on renewable energy due to concerns about greenhouse gas emissions, energy shortages, and global warming. However, the increasing share of renewable energy has added volatility and uncertainty to power system operations. Introducing new devices and using flexible resources may help solve the problem, but expanding the domain of the problem can be another solution. Sector coupling, which integrates production, consumption, conversion, and storage by connecting various energy domains, could potentially meet the needs of each energy sector. It can also reduce the generation of surplus energy and unnecessary carbon emissions. As a result, sector coupling, an integrated energy system, increases the acceptance of renewable energy in the traditional power system and makes it carbon neutral. However, difficulties in large-scale integration, low conversion efficiency and economic feasibility remain obstacles. This perspective paper discusses the background, definition, and components of sector coupling, as well as its functions and examples in rendering power systems carbon-neutral. The classical source-to-trap petroleum system concept only considers the migration and accumulation of conventional oil and gas in traps driven dominantly by buoyance in a basin, although revised and improved, even some new concepts as composite petroleum system, total petroleum system, total composite petroleum system, were proposed, but they do not account for the vast unconventional oil and gas reservoirs within the system, which is not formed and distributed in traps dominantly by buoyancedriven. Therefore, the petroleum system concept is no longer adequate in dealing with all the oil and gas accumulations in a basin where significant amount of the unconventional oil and gas resources are present in addition to the conventional oil and gas accumulations. This paper looked into and analyzed the distribution characteristics of conventional and unconventional oil/gas reservoirs and their differences and correlations in petroliferous basins in China and North America, and then proposed whole petroleum system (WPS) concept, the WPS is defined as a natural system that encompasses all the conventional and unconventional oil and gas, reservoirs and resources originated from organic matter in source rocks, the geological elements and processes involving the formation, evolution, and distribution of these oil and gas, reservoirs and resources. It is found in the WPS that there are three kinds of hydrocarbons dynamic fields, three kinds of original hydrocarbons, three kinds of reservoir rocks, and the coupling of these three essential elements lead to the basic ordered distribution model of shale oil/gas reservoirs contacting or interbeded with tight oil/gas reservoirs and separated conventional oil/gas reservoirs from source rocks upward, which is expressed as "S\T-C". Abnormal conditions lead to other three special ordered distribution models: The first is that with shale oil/gas reservoirs separated from tight oil/gas reservoirs. This paper explores the repatterning of civil society, the social technologies of persuasion and information, and the role of socio- political contexts in Narrabri (an Australian country town, in Western New South Wales), and its surrounding region between 2018 and 2020. In Narrabri the consequences of Carbon Oligarchy are observed, as the oligarchy promoted new gas fields and expansions of a coal mine in the region. This expansion is justified by supposedly offering a solution to Narrabri's apparent economic, agricultural and population decline problems, but for many local people, it worsens those problems. Conflict has been generated as a result, and the town has suffered painful fractures making the problems seem harder to solve because of the resulting disunity. According to the Green Deal, the carbon neutrality of the European Union (EU) should be reached partly by the transition from fossil fuels to alternative renewable sources. However, fossil fuels still play an essential role in energy production, and are widely used in the world with no alternative to be completely replaced with, so far. In recent years, we have observed the rapidly growing prices of commodities such as oil or gas. The analysis of past fossil fuels consumption might contribute significantly to the responsible formulation of the energy policy of each country, reflected in policies of related organisations and the industrial sector. Over the years, a number of papers have been published on modelling production and consumption of fossil and renewable energy sources on the level of national economics, industrial sectors and households, exploiting and comparing a variety of approaches. In this paper, we model the consumption of fossil fuels (gas and coal) in Slovakia based on the annual data during the years 1965–2020. To our knowledge, no such model, which analyses historical data and provides forecasts for future consumption of gas and coal, respectively, in Slovakia, is currently available in the literature. For building the model, we have used the Box–Jenkins methodology. Because of the presence of trend in the data, we have considered the autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA (p,d,q)) model. By fitting models with various combinations of parameters p, d, q, the best fitting model has been chosen based on the value of Akaike's information criterion. According to this, the model for coal consumption is ARIMA(0, 2, 1) and for gas consumption it is ARIMA(2, 2, 2). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Can cost-benefit analyses change the terms of debate over resource utilisation - in political and civil society and the state, among environmentalists, in the courts, and especially with respect to community, grassroots-feminist, labour and youth activists opposed to extractive industries and in particular, fossil fuels? Since late 2021, hundreds of protests against gas exploration along the coastline of KwaZulu-Natal, the Eastern Cape, Western Cape and Northern Cape, which is the site of debate in this paper, have helped society better consider fossil fuel costs and benefits. There are revealing controversies regarding the application of natural capital accounting (especially the Gaborone Declaration), overdue reforms to Gross Domestic Product national accounts, the 'Social Cost of Carbon' (and related carbon taxation and liability accounting), and intergenerational sustainable development calculations (such as the Hartwick Rule). In some cases, Environmental Impact Assessments allow for such narratives, but more important was a court case in 2022, Sustaining the Wild Coast et al. versus Shell et al., initially won by community critics of offshore gas (although subsequently being considered on appeal). On all these terrains, dangers of technicism and legalism abound, but if conceptualised with care, the merits of a broader, multi-scale environmental-economic consideration of the extractive industries could ultimately be foundational in resistance narratives and practices. The aim of this paper is to investigate the effect of micro grooves on the lubrication performance of gas-lubricated inclined slider bearing. This paper is based on numerical analysis. The detailed numerical investigation is carried out in matlab software. The grooving parameters are optimized to obtain the maximum average pressure for various inclination angles of gas-lubricated inclined slider bearing. The results show that the inclination angle of the micro-grooves, depth of the micro-grooves, width of the micro-grooves, and spacing of the micro-grooves have an important influence on the hydrodynamic pressure of gas-lubricated inclined slider bearing with micro-grooves. Besides, the influence of the sliding speed on average pressure increment for various inclination angles of gas-lubricated inclined slider bearing is investigated. It is observed that the sliding speed generating the maximum average pressure increment is dependent on the inclination angle of gas-lubricated inclined slider bearing.

The paper considers a method for retrieval of the total ozone content in the atmospheric column on the basis of artificial neural networks according to the MSU-GS instrument of the Electro-L No. 3 geostationary spacecraft. The tests and comparisons of the retrieved values of the total ozone content according to the MSU-GS data with the ground-based measurements from the AERONET and WOUDC archives, as well as with satellite estimates based on the OMPS instrument data, show a high correlation and accuracy. The mean absolute error when compared with OMPS is 1.9 DU; with AERONET, 13.4; and with WOUDC, 15.7. The correlations are 99.8%, 89.6% and 86.9%, respectively. The results obtained indicate good accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method for retrieval of the total ozone content. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Coal is the mainstay of China's energy supply. With the gradual progress in China's policy of phasing out backward coal production capacity, the intensive and deep mining of coal has gradually become the new norm. The current mining depth is increasing at a rate of 10~15 m/year. The high crust stress, high gas pressure, high ground temperature, and engineering disturbance stress in deep coal mines can lead to the occurrence of coal–rock–gas dynamic disasters that are complex and show the characteristics of compound dynamic disasters. It is important to understand the evolution and mechanism of deep coal and rock dynamic disasters accurately for the safe development of deep resources. To study the mechanism of occurrence and the evolution of impact–protrusion compound dynamic disasters, we herein analyzed the apparent characteristics of coal–rock–gas compound dynamic disasters in deep mines and obtained the mechanical and acoustic emission characteristics of coal–rock composites through indoor experiments. Then, we conducted in-depth analysis on the non-uniform deformation behaviors and non-uniform stress field of the coal–rock composite and clarified the generation mechanism of local tensile cracks at the coal–rock interface. Subsequently, we established the energy transfer model of the rock–rock–gas composite specimen in the process of dynamic destabilization in the engineering scale mining field and revealed the mechanism of nonlinear energy evolution and release of the coal–rock–gas composite, which has been less reported in previous studies. In this paper, we further clarified the occurrence and development mechanism of coal–rock–gas compound dynamic disasters in the engineering scale mining environment to guide the prevention and control of coal–rock–gas dynamic disasters in deep mines. The overall transition towards a low-carbon economy is expected to pose a solution for several global problems, including the ongoing climate change while ensuring economic and social development. Large oil and gas companies are aware of the need to transform their business, turn to renewable and clean energy sources to build a positive image and reputation, and have the economic power to do so. This paper aims to evaluate the marketing communication of leading European oil and gas companies on their Instagram accounts in the context of reputation building through using social media and identify to what extent the companies reflect the environmental aspects of corporate social responsibility. Content analysis and the Social Blade tool were used to examine the marketing communication of the five biggest companies by revenue. All the companies are active on Instagram, but it has been found that the Russian companies have remained inactive and have even been losing followers since March 2022, when the war conflict in Ukraine started. Surprisingly, Shell uploaded only a few posts during the reference period but is recognized as the company achieving the highest social media effectiveness. Although all observed oil and gas companies continue their business as usual, they incorporate and communicate efforts to support the development of electromobility, clean and renewable energy projects, as well as ecological projects. This paper assesses the use of gas from a landfill located in Kiełcz for energy purposes, considering energy, environmental and socioeconomic aspects. The literature review contains information on waste management methods in various regions of the world and the legal acts regulating them. The reference was also made to the methods of degassing landfills and the methods of reducing pollutants from this process. The research methodology describes, among other things, the method of measuring exhaust gas quality and temperature or gas composition. This section also presents the catalyst that was used as a reducer of flue gas emissions. The use of a catalyst in the flue gas duct allowed for the reduction in CO emissions by 85%, NOX by 53%, SO2 by 95%, and PM by 82%. For the socio-economic analysis, formulas and quantities were given that allow for the parameterization of profits. Three leading indicators were selected, i.e., the impact of the energy produced on the producer, the reduction in greenhouse gases, and the responsibility for the product. The section of results graphically presents the efficiency of using the catalyst. This part also contains a summary table of the socioeconomic analysis on the basis of which the social profit index SROI was determined, which amounted to 7.57. This analysis may be helpful for landfill managers/owners who may consider the potential commercial use of landfill gas for energy purposes, as well as for governments, which, amid the current global fuel crisis, can benefit from this analysis and include the use of landfill gas in their energy transition strategies. This paper focuses on the characteristics and distribution of shallow reservoir carbonate in an underground gas storage. This study was done on Parigi carbonate as a significant reservoir carbonate in West Java Basin. The carbonate is abundant, and it occurs at shallow depths 800 to 1000 m below sea level. This formation broadly spreads out in onshore and offshore West Java areas as platform and build-up carbonates. The development of buildup carbonates is mostly in a low relief offshore. They well-developed onshore where the build-up exhibits coral reef frameworks, high relief, reaching over 450 m in thickness. The carbonate outcrop in Palimanan, western Cirebon which has been studied is grouped into four types of lithofacies. The preservation condition of this carbonate reservoir is important, for the storage capacity can inject a big gas volume. The porosity and permeability parameters are the most influential factor in reservoir evaluation.
