This paper, based on dissertation fieldwork among Mexican migrant organizations in New York, examines differing modes of mobilization in two Bronx parish-based voluntary associations. Even though the Mexican community in New York is consistently described as “new”, “young” and its migration as “recent”, there are some migrants who arrived decades ago, in the early 1980s, whose children and grandchildren have been born in the United States and whose experiences are quite different than those of newer migrants. Nonetheless, the network of fraternal societies founded on Guadalupan devotion which together comprises the largest and most visible Mexican organization in the city assumes commonalty of experiences, identity, faith and needs, based on the premise, “We are all undocumented”. In this paper I will unpack that “we” using ethnographic data from two Bronx parish Guadalupan committees to examine how a collective we is produced, contested, and complicated through time. What are the implications for the organizational strategies of the city-wide association if some of the most established activists are no longer undocumented? What kinds of tensions exist within a community imagined to be unified but constantly faced with class and ethnic differences? These organizations posit a “citizenship” premised on all human beings sharing the same mother, the Virgin of Guadalupe, and ensuring the dignity and rights of all, irrespective of migratory status or nationality. What does it mean when some involved in the production of this discourse “regularize” their migratory status and are no longer in need of an alternative mode of citizenship? How effective will assertions of Mexican national identity linked to Guadalupan devotion be among second-generation youths who are US citizens and have possibly never seen Mexico? The article reports on the minutes of the one hundred and first annual meeting of the Bibliographical Society of America held at the Lighthouse in New York on January 28, 2005. The president, John Bidwell, called the meeting to order at four o'clock in the afternoon. Stating that the minutes of the 2004 annual meeting had been published in the December 2004 issue of the journal "The Papers of the Bibliographical Society of America." He called for corrections or additions. There being none, the minutes were approved as published.

This article presents information related to a business meeting. The annual AKD business meeting was held on August 31, 1986, at the New York Hilton. Jerry Michel, scholar at the Memphis State University and AKD President presided the meeting. Those present were: Candace Clark, Helen Clarke, Al Clarke, Ken Davidson, David Demo, Marie Fuller, Rose Helper, Mark Butter, Lyn Lofland, Mike Malec, Betty Maynard, Annabelle Motz, Wayne Seelbach, Don Shoemaker, Jim Skipper, Jim Williams, Kenneth Wilson and Donna Darden. In addition to normal items of business, the following announcements and decisions were made at the meeting. The winners of the 1986 paper competition were as follows First prize: Tracey Watson, Skidmore College, Second prize: Jane Melada, Montclair State and third prize: William Axinn, Cornwell. Watson's paper, "Women Athletes and Athletic Women: The Dilemmas and Contradictions of Managing Incongruent Identities," will be published in the journal "Sociological Inquiry." The Council voted to name Dennis Peck, scholar at the University of Alabama-Bitmingham, as new editor of the journal.

The Eastern Psychological Association (EPA) held its 62nd annual meeting in 1991. The numbering of those meetings began with a meeting of the New York Branch of the American Psychological Association in 1930, but the roots of EPA are much deeper, originating with the formation of the New York Branch in 1903. The branch began as a forum for the exchange of scientific information in psychology in the New York City area. It was initially successful, meeting three times per year for a one-day program, and featured a Who's Who of speakers delivering some of the most important papers in the history of American psychology. After World War I its character, like that of psychology, began to change as the program reflected the growth in applied psychology and the membership began to be dominated by nonpsychologists. Its reorganization in 1930 restored control of the branch to university-based psychologists and reestablished the scientific goals that characterize EPA today. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

The article presents updates for the American Catholic Historical Association (ACHA). Reverend Robert Bireley, the first vice-president of the association, will be chairman of the Committee on Program for the eighty-ninth annual meeting, which will be held in New York from January 2 to 5, 2009. Proposals for papers or complete sessions, including a brief abstract of the paper and pertinent biographical data about the presenters, should be submitted to Father Bireley by January 28, 2008 if they are to be considered for co-sponsorship by the American Historical Association.

The article announces a call for papers and programs for the Council for Exceptional Children's 59th Annual International Convention slated in April 12 to 17, 1981 in New York city. Individuals are invited to present papers or organize program sessions for the conference which may be submitted to the Program Chairperson, Jo Thomason. The selection criteria include the quality of the proposal, innovativeness, currency of the topics, estimate of audience appeal, evidence of thought and planning, feasibility of presentation made or the degree to which it addresses a special need.
