In Mexico, as in many other parts of the world, industrial agriculture is dramatically changing rural landscapes and altering relationships with the land. This paper draws on community‐based research from a collaborative international research project that examined the perceived health implications of the agricultural industry for Indigenous peoples in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. Thirty interviews were conducted in a Nahuas community experiencing expanding agribusiness industries. The results of this study show that the implications of export‐oriented agricultural industry for this Nahuas community are complex and, at times, contradictory: employment in the agricultural industry provides community members with much‐needed sources of income, but it is precarious work. At the same time, community members are concerned about the long‐term health and environmental implications, such as increased exposure to chemicals, depletion of the soil and water, and loss of traditional food and lifeways. These results suggest that to better understand the costs and benefits of large‐scale agriculture for Indigenous health, a broad lens of health that is situated in the context of colonial legacies and the particularities of relationships with the land is required. This paper sets out to use the bivariate VEC-EGARCH model with constant correlations to analyze the process by which the mean and volatility are transmitted between the crude futures markets and physical oil markets in Mexico. The results point to the existence of bilateral performance information transmission patterns with stronger effects from the futures markets to the physical markets, while the evidence for the effects of bilateral volatility transmission only exists between the oil futures and physical oil markets in Olmeca. The empirical findings are relevant to governmental authorities and consumers because they aid in designing cross-hedging strategies that mitigate exposure to the price risk in Mexican oil. This paper analyzes a problem that proves crucial for the economic development of Mexico: slow economic growth and the subsequent inability to generate necessary employment. On the basis on Kaldorian growth theory, it is supposed that this problem is the result of economic policy errors, in essence the abandonment of active industrial policy in favor of structural change and economic development. Evidence is provided which highlights the high correlation between slow economic growth and slow growth in manufacturing output, a result consistent with the findings of other researchers. Having implemented an active industrial policy, the growth rate in the manufacturing sector would prove greater than that observed and would improve global economic development. Given the importance of this type of industrial policy, this paper outlines the reasons why the policy was abandoned and suggests that it be reinstated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This topic should be viewed in the context of a few theoretical considerations on local and territorial development. This work will then look at the conclusions of some recent specialized contributions to the study of instability and disparities in Mexico and apply these to the focus of this paper. Studying Yucatan sheds light on the enormous limits and extreme inequalities of development in Mexico and its winding road to growth. Yucatan reflects how Mexico is lagging in employment and education, as well as the extent to which people are leaving rural areas, leading to greater urban concentration. In addition, it provides evidence of an increase in outsourcing, the decline of the maquiladora industry and the departure of local capital from its weak manufacturing sector. The article is based on ethnographic work about migration, which took place in the colony of Lechería in Mexico State. It seeks to understand the problems of discrimination, exclusion and violence that arise in the relations between the inhabitants of the colony and migrants on their way to U.S.A. Based on the tenets of psychoanalysis, the text discusses the notions of discrimination and violence in relation to language, as well as the discourses of science and capitalism as catalysts for the phenomena associated with mass segregation. Small farmers in Zapotlán El Grande, Mexico, are living through important changes in their production and consuming practises, as a result of the structural modification of Mexican economy and its impact on agriculture, as well as Ciudad Guzmán's urban growth. The present paper shows how these changes are of such a different nature that they reveal a rural world which was completely different from the model which took shape in rural sociology. Thus, the concept of new rural living is a pertinent one, as it underlines the fact that rural-agricultural dichotomy, as opposed to urban-industrial dichotomy, reflects, more than ever, real life in small communities, or their relationship with cities and the global world. In Mexico many socioeconomic dynamics are being put in motion within rural communities, the purpose of which is to regain control over natural resources and creating Communal Forestry Companies that support an inclusive and participative type of progress. The object of the present paper is to analyse the case of San Pedro El Alto in Mexico in terms of local endogenous development, Víctor Toledo's (1996) contribution to the study sustainable communities and post-farming appropriation (Barkin y Rosas, 1996; Rosas, 2011). This study proposes a transition from subsistence agriculture to a type of production that would increase quality of life. A participative methodology was used, including semi-structured interviews to key informants and documental information. Despite a growing global commitment to the provision of antiretroviral therapy (ART), its availability is still likely to be less than the need. This imbalance raises ethical dilemmas about who should be granted access to publicly-subsidized ART programmes. This paper reviews the eligibility and targeting criteria used in four case-study countries at different points in the scale-up of ART, with the aim of drawing lessons regarding ethical approaches to rationing. Mexico, Senegal, Thailand and Uganda have each made an explicit policy commitment to provide antiretrovirals to all those in need, but are achieving this goal in steps — beginning with explicit rationing of access to care. Drawing upon the case-studies and experiences elsewhere, categories of explicit rationing criteria have been identified. These include biomedical factors, adherence to treatment, prevention-driven factors, social and economic benefits, financial factors and factors driven by ethical arguments. The initial criteria for determining eligibility are typically clinical criteria and assessment of adherence prospects, followed by a number of other factors. Rationing mechanisms reflect several underlying ethical theories and the ethical underpinnings of explicit rationing criteria should reflect societal values. In order to ensure this alignment, widespread consultation with a variety of stakeholders, and not only policy-makers or physicians, is critical. Without such explicit debate, more rationing will occur implicitly and this may be more inequitable. The effects of rationing mechanisms upon equity are critically dependent upon the implementation processes. Abstract: The deshayesitid ammonite genus Mathoceras is recorded for the first time from Aptian (Lower Cretaceous) strata in Mexico and Hungary. The present paper comprises descriptions of M. cf. venezolanum Renz, M. cf. sumerensis (Stoykova), M. celestinae nov. sp., and M. neoleonensis nov. sp. In Mexico, Mathoceras has been collected from an Aptian sequence in which there is a distinctive horizon defined by an ammonite assemblage of mid-Aptian age. Material from Hungary comes from a condensed bed that yields biota of early Aptian to early Albian age. Previously, the genus was held to be confined to Venezuela, Tunisia, the Balearic Islands (Spain) and Bulgaria. The new records, from two extremes of the former Tethys, increase the paleobiogeographic significance of this poorly known Aptian ammonite genus. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: The San Salvador Patlanoaya section (Puebla State, Mexico) is known for its richness of many fossil groups. Among them, the calcareous shells have been principally investigated. This paper deals with Missourian–Virgilian (Late Pennsylvanian) and Leonardian (late Early Permian) Mexican fish remains. A discussion about Helicoprion and related genera, is followed by the systematic description of the revised or discovered taxa: Cooperella typicalis, Moreyella cf. M. typicalis, M. (?) sp., “Sturgeonella” quinqueloba, Hybodontidae gen. sp. 1 and 2, scale indet. Palaeobiogeographic implications are suggested. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
