This paper extends previous work on the impedance of a parallel plate capacitor, filled with warm plasma, to take account of a static magnetic field. Computations are presented for parallel plate and co-axial cylinder geometries and indicate series of resonances occurring at, and between, the electron cyclotron frequency harmonics. It is suggested that if the theoretical results were confirmed experimentally, plasma admittance measurements would form the basis of a simple and powerful diagnostic technique for measuring plasma parameters such as electron density and temperature in the laboratory and in the ionosphere. The first part of the paper includes the derivation of a lump model for the basic CCD unit. This model consists of two capacitors, a current generator and a switch. Experimental results are given for the justification of this model.
In the second part of the paper a report is given on the successful operation of silicon gate CCD shift registers, two-phase and three-phase.

The paper presents design tables for high-pass RC active filters having capacitors of equal value. The functions realized are of the third-order Butterworth and Chebyshov variety. Account is taken of the resistor spread, total resistor sum and of the summed network sensitivity.

A method for simulating the capacitive field of a yarn-evenness tester by a resistive technique is presented and is used to study the effect of guard plates, and of the presence of a yarn on the held. The paper presents a class of active RC networks using a summation amplifier or a differential amplifier for realizing all-pass transfer functions of arbitrary order, having simple poles restricted to the negative real axis. It is often difficult to predict if an inductor current or a capacitive voltage in a network containing switches (make-, break- and change-over contacts) is continuous, i.e. if these currents and voltages are the same immediately before and after one or more switches have changed their state. If one wishes to solve a switching problem, while not making use of the Laplace method, it is necessary to know the initial conditions of the differential equation, that is to say the values of the inductor currents and the capacitor voltages immediately after switch operating. In general those values are only known before switch operating. This paper deals with a theorem, with which it is possible to predict in the majority of cases, simply by inspection of the network, if inductor currents and capacitor voltages are continuous. It is shown that a transfer function with a high-Q factor and zero sensitivity to temperature variations can be realized by an active RC circuit using a negative-emittance converter. It is assumed that all resistors have the same temperature coefficient, and similarly with the capacitors. Experimental results confirm the theory.
It will be shown in this paper that NIC circuits can have zero sensitivity when operational amplifiers are used. This result is based on the design approach whereby sensitivity contributions of some passive components are cancelled by contributions of other passive components. Here it is assumed that ail components of the same kind (resistors or capacitors)have the same temperature coefficient. The common methods of tracking, employing equal sections of ganged variable capacitors cannot be used in the case of a simultaneously tuned transmitter and receiver as the ratios of the maximum to minimum capacitances of the transmitting and receiving capacitors are not equal. In this paper a tracking method for the latter case is presented. The method is used in the design of a typical frequency tuner for the development of an ionosphere critical frequency recorder. A simple method of treating the kinetics of enzyme-catalyzed isotope exchange reactions in systems at equilibrium is given. The behaviour of the capacitance-voltage (C-V) characteristics of M-O-S capacitances prepared on n-type (10 cm) silicon surfaces has been described. The effect of gate voltage during irradiation on the C-V characteristic, radiation-induced excess charge with time and the annealing of the device due to temperature and U.V. radiation are reported here. A large signal analysis of frequency multiplication using non-linear capacitance has been made. No restriction on the non-linearity of the dynamic capacitance has been imposed. The amplitude of the nth harmonic voltage has been taken into consideration. Hence a general large signal formula for the optimized efficiency has been derived. The only restriction imposed is the requirement of ideal filters at the input and output establishing the existence of only the fundamental and the required harmonic voltage across the non-linear capacitance. To relate to practical cases of varactor diodes, computation of Fourier generator component of charge coefficients of abrupt and graded junction varactor diodes has been made. Since only the non-linear capacitance mode of harmonic generation is postulated, for numerical calculation the total composite a.c. voltage consisting of the fundamental and the nth harmonic voltage has been assumed to be 99% of the total d.c. voltage inclusive of the applied bias and the diffusion potential. Under these conditions, assuming that the circuit losses are negligible compared with the diode loss, the optimized efficiency for various values of Q of the varactor diode has been computed for different harmonic numbers n=2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7. The results have been given as curves of maximized efficiency versus Q of the diode for both abrupt and graded junctions. A few interesting results have been obtained and comparison of the computed efficiency with those given by Penfield and others has been made. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The spontaneous emission of longitudinal waves in various gas discharges (air, argon, helium and neon) has been observed experimentally to agree with the dispersion relationship obtained from theory. The power spectral density of electron oscillations has been measured with a wide dispersion microwave spectrum analyzer coupled to a specially designed plasma filled capacitor. The emission from these oscillations is seen to be strongly dependent on the electron-neutral collision frequency and the spacing between the two conducting plates. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
