This article reports that the study was undertaken to test whether titles of chemical papers are becoming more informative and whether uninformative titles of chemical papers are being eliminated since the advent of the KWIC index in 1958. One of the strongest objections voiced against such indexes is that titles of papers are unsatisfactory as a basis for subject index entries because titles are not composed with indexing in mind. The adequacy of titles as a source of subject content clues has been given much attention in the last decade, and many studies have been published on the subject.

The article discusses the advantages of the term project type of assignment over term papers in learning science. The purpose and meaning of an individual's educational experience is transmitted through a term project. While educators are becoming increasingly skeptical as to whether or not term papers have value in proportion to the time and energies required of both the undergraduates and the instructors, the level of interaction is compulsion. The sample of knowledge covered by a term project is not great, but apparently that sample will be remembered for a long, long time. The opportunity to think through a problem and find a solution proved to be an intriguing and pleasant experience.

The art activities include the use of crayons, cutting with the use of scissors, pasting, folding, tracing, painting, and cleaning up. The artcraft with crepe paper was also introduced to children in which they were able to know the usage of crepe paper. It is advisable to use the Dennison Crepe Paper for it is more stronger and can be stretched more successfully. Children can make mats, hot dish pads, napkin rings, sewing baskets, fruit baskets, and waste baskets out of crepe paper raffia.

The article reports on the development and use of behavioral objectives for improving the field experiences in student teaching presented by the Directors of Student Teaching at the State of Illinois Colleges and Universities, both private and public institutions. A form of position paper regarding this importance issue was made to present the opinions of the directors. The behavioral objective is to examine narrowly the work of the beginning teacher and focus attention on defined skills and behaviors to be achieved. The development and use of behavioral objectives are one approach on the problem of making pertinent efforts on improving the teaching education.

This article discusses the teaching of social accounting. In the last ten years, the two fields--accounting and economics have been drawn closer together, because professional accountants and professional economists increasingly utilize the same data in their work. The highly technical literature on depreciation policy and inventory valuation is sufficient to indicate that an unequivocal concept of either business income or national income is scarcely possible under current conditions. In other words, an accountant or an economist frequently must outline his own set of definitions, the over-riding consideration being the usefulness of the definitions, with the long-term aim of achieving greater uniformity. In the development of useful accounting principles, the practitioner has not confined himself to transactions made within business enterprise. Generally speaking, practicing and teaching accountants have not devoted enough effort to the bold experiment of correlating their discipline with that of the many-faceted field of modern economics.

The article presents the criticism of the author against the article "Special Education for the Mentally Handicapped: A Paradox," by Orville Johnson. He points out several aspects of the article, including the approach to special education proposed by Johnson which involves increasing the motivational level of the learner by increasing the difficulty of the tasks being learned by the children. He comments that some of Johnson's exposition regarding the issue overlooks a major portion of the literature on the effects of motivational level upon learning and performance. Furthermore, the author stresses out that Johnson did not discuss the entirety of any of the additional experimental literature which suggests that heightened drive intervenes with learning and performance under certain conditions.

The article discusses Atkins and Karplus' assumption that the modern world demands a citizenry that is literate with respect to both concepts and the methods of science. The author comments on Atkins and Karplus' recognition that children differ widely both in their abilities to grasp ideas and in the ways they arrive at conclusions.

The article discusses the article "A Comparison of Three Measures of Socioeconomic Status," by George A. Lundberg and Pearl Friedman. According to the author, "Validity" in the article refers to a covariation of a set of observations obtained in one way and another set of observations obtained in some other way. But, this should be added: the second set of observations, the "validating" data, must refer to the materials with which one is directly concerned. For example, it is commonly asserted that if people wish to validate a sociometric scale they may correlate the results obtained through its use with the results obtained through the use of another sociometric scale. These and kindred problems are immediately brought into sharp focus by a comparison of three measures of socio-economic status. A comparison presupposes some criterion, otherwise it can only resolve itself into a series of statements to the effect that "those things differ in the following respects, which raises the question of "What of it? The Guttman weights were assigned entirely on the basis of the correlation between the item and a status factor which was carefully defined as the factor common to education, occupation, income and participation. If it can be shown that these weights are not valid according to the same assumptions, on another sample, then the weights can be criticized.

This article presents information about an article "The Preparation and Writing of Medical Papers for Publication," by W.R. Bett. The cultivation of literary style is being more and more jeopardized by the conditions of modern life, the decline of a classical education, and the influence of the laboratory with its language of symbols and formulae. Superfluous journals have led to superfluous and often slovenly writing. The medical student of this generation is overwhelmed with facts which only too often are presented to him dressed in unfinished or unsuitable garments of verbiage.

This article discusses the problems which arise in the planning and organizing of educational indicator systems. If a person wants to assess the effect of a certain measure, program evaluation can not be substituted by social indicators as usually conceived. Social indicators can not either give much guidance in the day-to-day planning in intermediate levels of the administration. What social indicators can do is to give a kind of gross evaluation of a number of measures usually taken under a period and of unforeseen and unplanned changes as well, to indicate if the development is taking desired directions. A danger of an indicator system of the type closely affiliated to administration is the sectorization and institutional bias likely to manifest itself in concentration on means available to the bureaucracy in question. This is an advantage as to manipulability of means but as disadvantage as to seeing the whole range of alternatives. In a social-indicators-project the ideal would be indicators of knowledge and skills in the whole population, instead of educational indicators aimed primarily at evaluating the institutionalized school system and its effects on the minority of the population affected by it.

The article comments on the article "A Heuristic Program for Locating Warehouses," by Alfred A. Kuehn and Michael J. Hamburger published in the July 1963 issue of the journal "Management Science." It remarks on the use of a heuristic method to determine warehouse location. While, as the writers point out, it has thus far only been tried in experimental situations, it should prove most useful as a beginning tool for estimating numbers and locations of warehouses. The method seems to add much to the linear programming methods thus far developed.
