Medicalization represents an increasingly significant form of social control. Emergent evidence suggests that workplace managers take up medicalized practices and discourses to produce a compliant labor force, but this phenomenon has received limited sociological attention. This paper extends prior theories of medicalization to investigate therapeutic management in the low-wage workplace. I draw upon eight months of ethnographic fieldwork in Disability Works, a nonprofit job training program for people with mental illnesses, and interviews with other providers and advocates within this field. Disability Works harnesses therapy, psychiatry, and "softer" therapeutic practices such as mindfulness meditation, sleep hygiene, and positive affirmations to produce its workforce. This paper identifies two dimensions of therapeutic management: (1) it aims to inculcate work norms at the level of client-workers' embodied dispositions, and (2) it aims to transform structural problems into individual ones. In this paper, I examine the embodied transformative memory of GuateMaya feminist group, GuateMaya Mujeres Resistiendo-Los Angeles (GMR-LA). Through a decolonial feminist perspective and feminist ethnographic approach, I built an intimate relationship with the grassroot group in Los Angeles. GMR-LA comprises Guatemala's 36-year (1960–1996) war survivors and women in the diaspora who continue to amplify the cultural memory of the disappeared. The article will delve into the concept of healing cartographies and the ethnographic work I employed in Los Angeles from 2019 to 2023. A particular method I used was body mapping to examine the embodied transformative memory of the groups and women who seek justice. Body mapping has been used with HIV-positive patients and migrant children. Latin American feminist decolonial geographers (Cabnal, 2010; Zaragocin and Caretta 2020; GeoBrujas, 2021b) are using the method of body mapping as a decolonial, counter-cartographic perspective that highlights Indigenous peoples' lived experiences. I use the method to explore the relationships between the body, memory, and healing from intergenerational trauma. The objective of this paper is to integrate Urban Political Ecology (UPE) as a theory for identifying under-exposed urban dimensions of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). A UPE lens allows us to conceptualize urbanization as a ubiquitous socio-ecological process and an interpretive frame that could inform AMR governance strategies across related contexts by: a) situating AMR risks in relation to urbanization processes shaping social and political co-determinants of such systemic threats as climate change; b) aligning UPE scholarship with One Health (OH) approaches that address AMR to reveal the under-exposed link of AMR to environmental threats and broader structural dimensions that influence these threats; and c) identifying shared AMR and environmental governance pathways that inform the rationale for more equitable governance arrangements. We delineate a context in which the speed and scale of human activity in the larger context of urbanization, driven by global market integration strategies, impacts human-animal-environmental health threats such as AMR. We demonstrate how UPE scholarship can be leveraged to offer theoretical depth to approaches considering the interdependencies of AMR and climate change threats. We then propose a strategic approach focused on identifying shared governance pathways and intersectoral accountability frameworks to address upstream structural drivers of AM-Environmental threats. The co-benefits of a UPE-informed framework to human-animal-environmental health that leverages enabling policy environments to foster a more collaborative, equitable and sustainable approach to address systemic global health threats are clarified. Language teacher identity (LTI) has become essential in educational research. The discourse is progressively moving away from the deficit-based label of non-native-English-speaking teachers towards the asset-based appreciation of their multilingualism and multiculturalism. This paper explores two multilingual and multicultural English teachers' (MMETs) LTI shift from unbecoming (experiencing negative moments in identity formation) to becoming (experiencing moments that validate the self) over life stages and national contexts, impacting their teaching pedagogies. Applying duoethnography as the methodology, data were collected through tandem writing and dialogic conversations. Findings indicate that (1) MMETs' ongoing LTI construction is enmeshed with their primary discourse, educational, professional, and cross-cultural experiences, and discourses and ideologies embedded in social contexts; (2) LTI construction entails perpetual unbecoming and becoming moments; embracing and valuing themselves multilingualism and multiculturalism is beneficial to guide MMETs toward LTI becoming; (3) MMETs' perceptions of their own and students' multilingualism impact teaching practices when instructing students. Research demonstrates that duoethnography involves four layers of identity work: storying, reflecting, dialoguing, and writing. Through duoethnography, language teachers can explore their LTI experiences, reframing their identities from the asset-based perspective and offering inspiring stories for other teachers, thus making it the potential to support professional development in teacher education. • This study explores multilingual teachers' professional identity over life and space. • Duoethnography could be a collaborative method to understand teacher identity. • Teacher identity is shaped within educational, professional, and cultural experience. • Teacher identity (re)construction is along with unbecoming and becoming moments. • Multilingual teachers' perceptions of multilingualism impact pedagogical practices. This article studies urban–rural mobilities in contemporary Japan using several island communities in the Setouchi region of the Seto Inland Sea as a case study. It seeks to examine the phenomenon of den-en kaiki (rural return) with a focus on young Japanese urbanites moving to depopulated regions outside large cities. Based on a 15-month ethnographic study, the paper draws on original in-depth qualitative interviews with 35 individuals in their 20s–40s. The findings show that while some may be more traditional "lifestyle migrants," many are adopting rural living as a temporary escape from the city and are not necessarily committed to staying long term. The narratives reveal diverse mobilities as a reflection of the changing attitudes of young Japanese attempting to find meaning and satisfaction while sustaining a livelihood in post-growth Japan. The growing importance of the "relationship population," referring to urbanites who spend extended time in rural communities but do not live there, is discussed to broaden existing conceptions of rural mobilities from the Japanese context. The messiness of rural mobilities in contemporary Japan highlights the need for an expanded understanding of concepts such as counter-urbanization to include various forms of exchange and consider how they can contribute to the future sustainability of rural spaces. • Fluid urban-rural mobilities are reflective of new values amongst young Japanese. • I-turners displayed varying levels of commitment to rural living while U-turners are more likely to settle. • Ethnographic data reveal a desire to explore alternatives to traditional lifelong employment. • Urban-rural migrants struggle to balance financial security with lifestyle aspirations. • More study on the 'relationship population' as a growing influence on the future of rural Japan is needed. Cancer stands as one of the leading causes of death worldwide according to the World Health Organization (WHO), and it has led to approximately 10 million fatalities in 2020. Medicinal plants are still widely used and accepted form of treatment for most diseases including cancer in Ghana. This review presented Cryptolepis nigrescens (Wennberg) L. Joubert. and Bruyns., Prosopsis africana (Guill. and Perr.) Taub. and Pterygota macrocarpa K. Schum. as medicinal plants that are traditionally used to treat tumour growth, amongst other diseases, in the Ashanti region of Ghana. This paper aims to present a comprehensive review on the botanical description, ecological distribution, ethnomedicinal uses, phytochemical composition and ethnopharmacological relevance of C. nigrescens , P. africana and P. macrocarpa. The review covers works published between 1962 and 2023 from various countries. Published books, thesis, scientific and medical articles on C. nigrescens , P. africana and P. macrocarpa were collected from the following databases: 'Scopus', 'Science Direct', 'Medline', 'PubMed', 'Research Gate' 'Google Scholar, and 'Springer link' using the keywords. Phytochemical analysis of C. nigrescens , P. africana and P. macrocarpa revealed the presence of some prominent bioactive compounds such as convallatoxin, 7,3,4-trihydroxy-3-methoxyflavanone and dioxane, respectively. Plant extracts and isolated compounds of these medicinal plants exhibited a wide range of ethnopharmacological activities including antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, analgesic, cytotoxic, antimalarial, antipyretic, haematinic, hepato-protective, aphrodisiac and antihypertensive properties. The present review on C. nigrescens , P. africana and P. macrocarpa provided a credible summary of the ethnopharmacological research conducted on these medicinal plants till date. The data also highligted the potential therapeutic profiles of these plants in Ghana that could serve as foundation for future studies.
