Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), especially machine learning models that autonomously generate human-like content, has recently attracted significant attention in the education sector. This paper explores the potential of generative AI, including tools like ChatGPT, to shift from traditional outcome-oriented educational practices to a more balanced approach that values both the learning process and its outcomes. Traditionally, education has emphasized achieving predefined results, but the advent of generative AI tools, which enable students to easily produce tangible results, calls for a reevaluation of these practices. This shift suggests a need for a broader focus that encompasses the entire learning process leading to the final product, thereby promoting an educational practice that equally emphasizes both the journey and the destination of learning. Recognizing that the implementation of such practices, facilitated by generative AI, still requires exploration, this paper proposes a solution that integrates the experiential learning cycle and learning portfolio. This approach is designed to demonstrate the realization of process-outcome-balanced educational practices through the use of a pedagogical AI agent.

In this paper, we put in dialogue the local dimension of a nation-state with the global challenges faced by universities worldwide. We focus on the case of Denmark, a nation that was exceptionally active in implementing international university reforms and where digitalisation is a high priority of the public sector governance. The article seeks to contribute to speculative research and critical studies by presenting a mixed-methods study that explores higher education teachers' views about desirable and realistic future scenarios in Denmark. The study draws on data from a survey applied at a large Danish university, analysed both quantitatively (N = 755) and qualitatively (N = 53). The findings show that teachers share clusters of concern about uncontrolled digitalisation and teaching automation, commodification of education, and modularisation of university courses, the latter being a contested but realistic perspective in the latest political reforms. They reaffirm the mission of the university as preparing students for solving real problems and contributing to the challenges of the present time. The paper concludes with a call for university management to recalibrate future imaginaries to the values expressed by the teachers, and the university they wish to create.

This paper is based on the first two iterations of the Twitter reenactment in "History 450: The Growth of Metropolitan Milwaukee," taught at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) in Fall 2020 and 2021. According to the authors, they did not come up with the Twitter reenactment as a pedagogical tool on their own. This paper describes the development and refinement of Twitter reenactments since 2009. The authors explain how they worked out the details of transforming what had been a volunteer activity into the core of a class. The authors conclude by examining some of the ethical and pedagogical questions raised by having students engage in a historical reenactment. According to the authors, historical reenactments can offer students an unusual opportunity to develop their historical thinking and share original research findings with a public audience.

This research paper explores podcasting as a viable assessment technique in current academic English language teaching pedagogy. The study was done with two 3rd-year university classes who created the podcast in groups of four as an academic English-speaking exam with the goal being to enhance the student's intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, through self-determination theory, to assess the students' speaking skills. Motivation is the core concept of this study, and it aligns with current trends in technology and a desire among students for speaking assignments to reflect real-world practices. Critique on the podcast as a form of academic English-speaking assessment was given in the form of questionnaire surveys and interviews with students from the selected classes, with the results presented giving evidence that podcasting is a suitable alternative method in assessing university student's academic speaking skills. It was seen to increase motivation, enhance self-efficacy, and encourage speaking in a suitably congenial environment.

Members of the Interactive Online Network of Inorganic Chemists (IONiC) report the development and sustained efforts to provide virtual professional development sessions: Supporting Learning with Interactive Teaching: a Hosted, Engaging Roundtable (SLiThEr). SLiThEr's emerged from a community need at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic; since then, SLiThEr's have become a standard event for the IONiC community. SLiThEr's are real- time virtual community events, after which a recording of the SLiThEr is posted on the IONiC YouTube channel. In this paper, an overview of the structure, format, and emergence of SLiThEr's is reported, followed by evaluation of SLiThEr offerings, a plan for future SLiThEr offerings, and a discussion of how SLiThEr's impact teaching practice.

In an era marked by scientific stagnation, Decentralized Science (DeSci) challenges the inefficiencies of traditional funding and publishing systems. DeSci employs blockchain technology to address the misalignment of incentives in academic research, emphasizing transparency, rapid funding, and open-source principles. Centralized institutions have been linked to a deceleration of progress, which is acutely felt in the field of longevity science--a critical discipline as aging is the #1 risk factor for most diseases. DeSci proposes a transformative model where decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) facilitate community-driven funding, promoting high- risk, high-reward research. Objective: Wikipedia is the most frequently accessed online health information resource and is well positioned as a valuable tool for public health communication and knowledge translation. The authors aimed to explore their institution's health and medical research reach by analyzing its presence in Wikipedia articles. Methods: In October 2022, a comprehensive database search was constructed in PubMed to retrieve clinical evidence syntheses published by at least one author affiliated with McMaster University from 2017 to 2022, inclusive. Altmetric Explorer was queried using PubMed Identifiers and article titles to access metadata and Wikipedia citation data. 3,582 health evidence syntheses from at least one McMaster University affiliated author were analyzed. Results: Six percent (n=219) of health evidence syntheses from the authors' institution were cited 568 times in 524 unique Wikipedia articles across 28 different language editions. 45% of citations appeared in English Wikipedia, suggesting a broad global reach for the institutions' research outputs. When adjusted for open access publications, 8% of McMaster University's health evidence syntheses appear in Wikipedia. Conclusion: Altmetric Explorer is a valuable tool for exploring the reach of an institution's research outputs. Isolating Altmetric data to focus on Wikipedia citations has value for any institution wishing to gain more insight into the global, community-level reach of its contributions to the latest health and medical evidence. With the growth of open access (OA) journal publishing, a myriad of funding models has emerged to serve as an alternative to the traditional subscription model. Models that impose author facing charges are inequitable, favoring well-resourced authors and institutions, and continue the dominance of publications from the Global North. This exploratory study critically examines the current state of funding OA journal publishing and the disruptive role of library publishing programs. We conclude with a discussion of the potential of the LYRASIS Open Access Community Investment Program as a tool to support library publishing programs to sustainably fund inclusive OA journal publishing. This environmental scan argues for the value in making grant proposals open access. Applying for and receiving grant funding is an important facet of research. However, accessing information on grant application, review, and award processes remains a particular challenge for early career scholars, researchers from smaller or underresourced institutions, and traditionally marginalized scholars. While the open access movement has made research publications resulting from funded grants publicly available, grant proposals are rarely included. When proposals are shared, they are difficult to find due to variability in metadata implementation and quality. This work asks: What are central challenges in making grant proposals open access? How can increased access to grant proposals contribute to equity and transparency in funding distribution? What existing repositories contain grant materials? What standards and incentives can be established among grant-seeking and funding stakeholders to improve grant proposal accessibility? This work concludes with perspectives shared during a May 2022 advisory group meeting of stakeholders involved in the Institute of Museum and Library Services--funded project Planning for Open Grants, which focuses on potential solutions in grant seeking and funding processes for working toward an open grants standard across research communities. Previous research on faculty publication venue choice at R1 institutions reveals tension between the benefits of open access and institutional pressure for faculty to publish in specific journals for review purposes. How does this tension percolate through regional campuses with different institutional priorities, and what can these contexts reveal about publishing practices and priorities for different kinds of faculty? In this study, the authors used content analysis on transcripts of interviews of sixteen faculty from regional campuses of an R1 institution to better understand the perception of open access publications as a venue choice.
