Twitter, a microblogging platform, has developed into an increasingly invaluable information source, where millions of users post a great quantity of tweets with various topics per day. Heterogeneous information networks consisting of multi-type objects and relations are becoming more and more prevalent as an organization form of knowledge and information. The task of linking an entity mention in a tweet with its corresponding entity in a heterogeneous information network is of great importance, for the purpose of enriching heterogeneous information networks with the abundant and fresh knowledge embedded in tweets. However, the entity mention is ambiguous. Additionally, tweets are short and informal, making it difficult to mine enough information from a single tweet for entity linking. In this paper, we propose an unsupervised iterative clustering framework TELHIN to link multiple similar tweets with a heterogeneous information network jointly. Our framework takes three dimensions of tweet similarity into consideration: (1) content similarity, (2) temporal similarity, and (3) user similarity. The appropriate weights of different similarity dimensions for each entity mention are learned iteratively based on the metric learning algorithm by leveraging the pairwise constraints generated automatically. Many modern navigation systems and map-based services do not only provide the fastest route from a source location $s$ s to a target location $t$ t but also provide a few alternative routes to the users as more options to choose from. Consequently, computing alternative paths has received significant research attention. However, it is unclear which of the existing approaches generates alternative routes of better quality because the quality of these alternatives is mostly subjective. Motivated by this, in this paper, we present a user study conducted on the road networks of Melbourne, Dhaka and Copenhagen that compares the quality (as perceived by the users) of the alternative routes generated by four of the most popular existing approaches including the routes provided by Google Maps. We also present a web-based demo system that can be accessed using any internet-enabled device and allows users to see the alternative routes generated by the four approaches for any pair of selected source and target. We report the average ratings received by the four approaches and our statistical analysis shows that there is no credible evidence that the four approaches receive different ratings on average. We also discuss the limitations of this user study and recommend the readers to interpret these results with caution because certain factors may have affected the participants’ ratings. With the proliferation of online social networks, the identification or classification of real-life relationship between users has been very useful for many applications such as financial fraud detection. In real life, usually people with different relationships would present gifts with special meanings to each other on different dates. In many Asian cultures, especially in Chinese culture, the red packet is a traditional form of monetary gift. With the rapid development of the Internet, people gradually began to give electronic red packets instead of paper ones as the means of money gifting on social network platforms. As motivated, in this paper we advocate a novel approach that exploits users’ red packet interactions for users relationship identification on WeChat, one of the largest social platforms in China. Specifically, we analyze the WeChat red packets network, identify the real-life relationship types between users through mining the semantic information of the amount and sending time of each red packet. In order to better capture the red packet gifting behaviors between users for relationship identification, on one hand, we construct an Amount-Date Graph and apply the graph embedding method to learn embeddings of the amount and sending date of each red packet. On the other hand, we propose a novel sequential model, Cross & Attention Sequence Model (CASM), which explicitly learns the interactions between the latent semantic information of each red packet’s amount and sending date in the red packets sequence between two users. To validate our approach, we conduct comprehensive experiments on a real-world WeChat Users Red Packets dataset that involves 8 kinds of real-life relationships. Gaming video streaming services have grown tremendously in the past few years, with higher resolutions, higher frame rates and HDR gaming videos getting increasingly adopted among the gaming community. Since gaming content as such is different from non-gaming content, it is imperative to evaluate the performance of the existing encoders to help understand the bandwidth requirements of such services, as well as further improve the compression efficiency of such encoders. Towards this end, we present in this paper GamingHDRVideoSET, a dataset consisting of eighteen 10-bit UHD-HDR gaming videos and encoded video sequences using four different codecs, together with their objective evaluation results. Additionally, the paper discusses the codec compression efficiency of most widely used practical encoders, i.e., x264 (H.264/AVC), x265 (H.265/HEVC) and libvpx (VP9), as well the recently proposed encoder libaom (AV1), on 10-bit, UHD-HDR content gaming content. We present a method for predicting dense depth in scenarios where both a monocular camera and people in the scene are freely moving (right). Existing methods for recovering depth for dynamic, non-rigid objects from monocular video impose strong assumptions on the objects’ motion and may only recover sparse depth. In this paper, we take a data-driven approach and learn human depth priors from a new source of data: thousands of Internet videos of people imitating mannequins, i.e., freezing in diverse, natural poses, while a hand-held camera tours the scene (left). Because people are stationary, geometric constraints hold, thus training data can be generated using multi-view stereo reconstruction. At inference time, our method uses motion parallax cues from the static areas of the scenes to guide the depth prediction. We evaluate our method on real-world sequences of complex human actions captured by a moving hand-held camera, show improvement over state-of-the-art monocular depth prediction methods, and demonstrate various 3D effects produced using our predicted depth. Link similarity is widely applied in measuring the similarity between such objects as Web pages, scientific papers, and social networks. However, there are some deficiencies in the existing methods to measure it. For example, they cannot handle some semantic-similar contents. With the new feature of multi-energy coupling and the advancement of the energy market, Energy Internet (EI) has higher requirements for the efficiency and applicability of integrated energy response. This paper proposes an indirect multi-energy transaction (IMET) to promote multi-energy collaborative optimization in local energy market (LEM) and improve energy utilization through personalized responses from We-Energies (WEs). Firstly, an indirect customer-to-customer multi-energy transaction is modeled for local multi-energy coupling market which can satisfy privacy, preference and autonomy of users. The efficiency of energy matching can be promoted through the participation of conversion devices. In addition, multi-time scale hybrid trading mechanism is constructed with the consideration of the transmission speed of different energy sources. Meanwhile, energy transaction process is built as a Markov decision process (MDP) with deep reinforcement learning algorithm so that the system modeling error can be successfully avoided. In this paper, a multi-vehicle multi-task non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) assisted mobile edge computing (MEC) system with passive eavesdropping vehicles is investigated. To heighten the performances of edge vehicles, we propose a vehicle grouping pairing method, which utilizes vehicles near the MEC to assist edge vehicles as full-duplex relays. For promoting transmission security, we employ artificial noise to interrupt eavesdropping vehicles. Furthermore, we derive the approximate expression of the secrecy outage probability of the system. The combined optimization of vehicle task division, power allocation, and transmit beamforming is formulated to minimize the total delay of task completion for edge vehicles. Then, we design a power allocation and task scheduling algorithm based on the genetic algorithm to solve the mixed-integer non-linear programming problem. Erasure codes are essential for providing efficient resilience against node failures in distributed storage. Typically, an $[n, k]$ erasure code encodes $k$ symbols into $n$ symbols which are then stored in different nodes. Recent work by Kadekodi et al. shows that the failure rates of storage nodes vary significantly over time, and that changing the rate of the code (via a change in $n$ and $k$) in response to such variations provides substantial storage space savings. However, the resource overhead of re-encoding the already encoded data is prohibitively high. We present a new theoretical framework formalizing code conversion—the process of converting data encoded with an $[n^{ I}, k^{ I}]$ code into data encoded with an $[{n^{ F}}, {k^{ F}}]$ code while maintaining desired decodability properties. We then introduce convertible codes, a new class of codes that allow for code conversions in a resource-efficient manner. This paper begins the study on convertible codes by focusing on linear MDS codes and the access cost of conversion. We derive a lower bound on the access cost of conversion and present an explicit optimal construction matching this bound for an important subclass of conversions. Additionally, we propose constructions with low field-size requirement for a broad subset of parameters. Recently, crowdsourcing-based content delivery networks (CDN) emerge as a promising technology that can distribute massive video content to a vast number of Internet users by crawling bandwidth and storage resources from Internet end devices. Any ordinary Internet users with excessive resources can be recruited into such systems as mini-servers. Different from edge servers equipped with dedicated resources in traditional CDNs, the resource of a single mini-server is scarce and volatile that can vary severely with time, since its bandwidth is shared by many different applications. How to build a robust high performance crowdsourcing-based CDN system has attracted contributions from both academia and industry, but how to solve the drawback caused by unstable uploading bandwidth is still a challenging problem. So far, a prevalent methodology is to migrate the strategies implemented by traditional CDNs into crowdsourcing-based CDN systems based on the fact that these two kinds of systems share many similarities. In this paper, our argument is that the content delivery time can be reduced by replicating coded content on mini-servers (which is almost useless for edge servers in traditional CDNs) to enable downloading users to automatically adapt their downloading progress with oscillating bandwidth capacity from different mini-servers. Theoretical model is created to derive the performance improvement (evaluated in term of average file downloading time) achieved by our strategy, which is further validated via simulation. In this paper, we propose an image completion algorithm based on dense correspondence between the input image and an exemplar image retrieved from the Internet. Contrary to traditional methods which register two images according to sparse correspondence, in this paper, we propose a hierarchical PatchMatch method that progressively estimates a dense correspondence, which is able to capture small deformations between images. The estimated dense correspondence has usually large occlusion areas that correspond to the regions to be completed. A nearest neighbor field (NNF) interpolation algorithm interpolates a smooth and accurate NNF over the occluded region. Given the calculated NNF, the correct image content from the exemplar image is transferred to the input image. Finally, as there could be a color difference between the completed content and the input image, a color correction algorithm is applied to remove the visual artifacts. The illegal distribution of a digital movie is a common and significant threat to the film industry. With the advent of high-speed broadband Internet access, a pirated copy of a digital video can now be easily distributed to a global audience. A possible means of limiting this type of digital theft is digital video watermarking whereby additional information, called a watermark, is embedded in the host video. This watermark can be extracted at the decoder and used to determine whether the video content is watermarked. This paper presents a review of the digital video watermarking techniques in which their applications, challenges, and important properties are discussed, and categorizes them based on the domain in which they embed the watermark. It then provides an overview of a few emerging innovative solutions using watermarks. Protecting a 3D video by watermarking is an emerging area of research. The relevant 3D video watermarking techniques in the literature are classified based on the image-based representations of a 3D video in stereoscopic, depth-image-based rendering, and multi-view video watermarking. The content based image retrieval aims to find the similar images from a large scale dataset against a query image. Generally, the similarity between the representative features of the query image and dataset images is used to rank the images for retrieval. In early days, various hand designed feature descriptors have been investigated based on the visual cues such as color, texture, shape, etc. that represent the images. However, the deep learning has emerged as a dominating alternative of hand-designed feature engineering from a decade. It learns the features automatically from the data. This paper presents a comprehensive survey of deep learning based developments in the past decade for content based image retrieval. The categorization of existing state-of-the-art methods from different perspectives is also performed for greater understanding of the progress. The taxonomy used in this survey covers different supervision, different networks, different descriptor type and different retrieval type. A performance analysis is also performed using the state-of-the-art methods. The insights are also presented for the benefit of the researchers to observe the progress and to make the best choices. In this paper, we investigate the effect of imperfect sensing on the performance of opportunistic spectrum access (OSA) in cognitive radio (CR) networks. We consider a system modeled as a continuous-time Markov chain (CTMC), and then evaluate its performance in terms of the probabilities of users being blocked or dropped. Our results demonstrate that the performance of the underlying system significantly degrades when imperfect sensing is considered; thus, there is a pressing need for a reliable spectrum sensing scheme to improve the overall quality of service in practical scenarios. This paper considers multiplexing two sequences of messages with two different decoding delays over a packet erasure channel. In each time slot, the source constructs a packet based on the current and previous messages and transmits the packet, which may be erased when the packet travels from the source to the destination. The destination must perfectly recover every source message in the first sequence subject to a decoding delay ${T}_{\mathrm{ v}}$ and every source message in the second sequence subject to a shorter decoding delay ${T}_{\mathrm{ u}}\le {T}_{\mathrm{ v}}$. We assume that the channel loss model introduces a burst erasure of a fixed length B on the discrete timeline. With the advent of nanotechnology, concepts related to the Internet of Things, such as the Internet of NanoThings and Internet of Bio-NanoThings (IoBNT) have also emerged in the classical literature. The main concern of this paper is the IoBNT, which projects the prospective application domain where the activities of very tiny, biocompatible, and non-intrusive devices operating in an in-body nanonetwork can be monitored and controlled through the Internet. In this paper, we present an illustrative scenario and system model of an IoBNT for application in an advanced healthcare delivery system. To address one of the major challenges of the IoBNT, we present an exemplary architecture and model of a bio-cyber interface for connecting the conventional electromagnetic-based Internet to the biochemical signaling-based bionanonetwork. The bio-cyber interface is designed and modeled by employing biological concepts, such as the responsiveness of certain biomolecules to thermal and light stimuli, and the bioluminescence phenomenon of some biochemical reactions. The analysis in this paper focuses on the system that comprises the bio-cyber interface and the information propagation network of the blood vessel that leads to the in-body nanonetwork location. The significance of measurement data transfer over unreliable channel has emerged in the last decade, due to the spread of sensor networks and the idea of Internet of things. This paper investigates the behavior of the fast Fourier transform (FFT)-based power spectral density (PSD) estimation in the case of data loss. There are different methods available to estimate the PSD, but the hegemony of the FFT is beyond dispute, especially in real-time applications. This paper investigates the behavior of the PSD estimator in the case of different data loss models, and then offers some simple solutions on how the data loss can be handled in PSD estimation, when only moderate computing resources are available. With the rapid development of the Internet of Vehicles (IoV), the data in the network have become more complicated, and user demand for popular content has been growing. The focus of this paper is how to address the ever-changing mobile network environment of the IoV with the popular content caching strategy. To achieve the automatic selection, storage and delivery of popular content in the IoV, this paper modeled the network content as a heterogeneous information network (HIN). In this way, we can greatly reduce the load of the limited network with a small computational cost and give the user in the car a better experience with the automatic caching mode, in which the popular content can be cached in real time. Free-space optics (FSO)-based, low-earth orbit (LEO) satellite-assisted Internet of vehicles (IoVs) has recently attracted research efforts worldwide. For the majority of Internet applications, transmission control protocol (TCP) is one of the most widely deployed protocols. Nevertheless, a complete understanding of the TCP performance over FSO-based satellite-assisted IoVs networks is still lacking in the literature. This is a highly challenging issue, as a consequence of the non-trivial interdependencies between transmission losses caused by the dynamics/uncertainty of atmospheric last-mile channels and the buffer overflows on the Internet, as well as their joint impact on the TCP congestion control mechanisms. This paper offers a comprehensive analytical framework that allows assessing the TCP throughput performance under the joint impact of congestion losses occurred in the Internet and transmission errors at the last-mile link from the satellite-to-vehicle. Internet access for emerging unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is considered while the analysis can be also applied to other kinds of vehicles, which, in fact, require simpler channel models. The link-layer incremental redundancy hybrid automatic repeat request (IR-HARQ) protocol is employed at satellite-to-UAV channels to further improve the TCP throughput performance. Numerical results provide non-trivial findings and insights for the TCP performance in satellite/FSO-based IoVs, in which optimal UAV’s parameters are chosen to maximize the TCP throughput. In this paper, we aim to propose a novel transmission control protocol (TCP) congestion control method from a cross-layer-based perspective and present a deep reinforcement learning (DRL)-driven method called DRL-3R (DRL for congestion control with Radio access network information and Reward Redistribution) so as to learn the TCP congestion control policy in a superior manner. In particular, we incorporate the RAN information to timely grasp the dynamics of RAN, and empower DRL to learn from the delayed RAN information feedback potentially induced by several consecutive actions. Meanwhile, we relax the implicit assumption (that the feedback to one specific action returns at a round-trip-time (RTT) after the action is applied) in previous researches, by redistributing the rewards and evaluating the merits of actions more accurately. Experiment results show that besides maintaining a reasonable fairness, DRL-3R significantly outperforms classical congestion control methods (e.g., TCP Reno, Westwood, Cubic, BBR and DRL-CC) on network utility by achieving a higher throughput while reducing delay in various network environments. This paper proposes a scheme for constructing an Internet Protocol (IP) version 6 over low-power wireless personal area networks (6LoWPAN) wireless sensor network based on a cluster tree. In the cluster generation algorithm, a cluster tree is always an isolated node with the maximum number of neighbor isolated nodes that launches the cluster generation process; therefore, the total number of cluster heads is minimized. In the cluster-tree construction algorithm, the cluster-tree architecture is proposed, and the cluster-tree construction algorithm minimizes the total number of nodes included in a cluster tree; therefore, the routing cost is reduced. In the cluster-tree repair algorithm, when a cluster head or a cluster associate node fails or moves, a new cluster head or cluster associate node is elected to maintain the cluster-tree topology. This paper compares the performance parameters of Least Cluster Change algorithm with Lowest-ID, Root-based Lowest-ID cluster constructing mechanism, and the proposed scheme, including the cluster-tree topology stability, the routing memory cost, and the routing update cost. The underlying substation communication network (SCN) is of paramount importance in facilitating the advanced functionalities of substation automation. To design and maintain an efficient SCN to guarantee high transmission availability and information integrity, an accurate traffic model is required and the traffic characteristics need to be understood. This paper exploits the challenge of modeling and analyzing SCN data traffic from the data generating mechanism to the transmission and retransmission mechanisms, and reveals the symbiosis of short-range dependence and self-similarity. Recognizing that there is little research effort available, this paper proposes a viable approach in modeling the SCN traffic and mathematically analyzes the associated parameters aiming to accurately model the self-similarity behavior of SCN traffic, describes the symbiotic characteristics, and effectively predicts the traffic pattern. Further, the proposed modeling approach is validated and assessed through a case study by using a realistic 24-h dataset collected from a 110 kV substation's supervisory-control-and-data-acquisition system. The result clearly demonstrates that the model can accurately describe and forecast the SCN traffic with the autocorrelation function mean square error as small as \mathrmMSE\left(\mathrmm\right)=2.077\times 10^-3. To address the exponentially rising demand for wireless content, the use of caching is emerging as a potential solution. It has been recently established that joint design of content delivery and storage (coded caching) can significantly improve performance over conventional caching. Coded caching is well suited to emerging heterogeneous wireless architectures which consist of a dense deployment of local-coverage wireless access points (APs) with high data rates, along with sparsely-distributed, large-coverage macro-cell base stations (BS). This enables design of coded caching-and-delivery schemes that equip APs with storage, and place content in them in a way that creates coded-multicast opportunities for combining with macro-cell broadcast to satisfy users even with different demands. Such coded-caching schemes have been shown to be order-optimal with respect to the BS transmission rate, for a system with single-level content, i.e., one where all content is uniformly popular. In this paper, we consider a system with non-uniform popularity content which is divided into multiple levels, based on varying degrees of popularity. The main contribution of this paper is the derivation of an order-optimal scheme which judiciously shares cache memory among files with different popularities. To show order-optimality we derive new information-theoretic lower bounds, which use a sliding-window entropy inequality, effectively creating a non-cut-set bound. We also extend the ideas to when users can access multiple caches along with the broadcast. Finally, we consider two extreme cases of user distribution across caches for the multi-level popularity model: a single user per cache (single-user setup) versus a large number of users per cache (multi-user setup), and demonstrate a dichotomy in the order-optimal strategies for these two extreme cases. Internet of Drones (IoD) utilizes drones as the Internet of Things devices to collect information (e.g., air pollutant level and traffic condition) over different points of interests, and has been explored in several applications such as object tracking and traffic surveillance. However, owing to the limited battery capacity of drones, energy efficient strategies are required in IoD systems. Meanwhile, the varying wireless channel conditions as a drone flies in the air may degrade the user quality of service (QoS). Power control, which adapts to the varying channel conditions and also controls the energy consumption, helps address these challenges. In this paper, we investigate power control in IoD for the data collection service to minimize the energy consumption of a drone while meeting the QoS requirement. The problem is formulated as a sum-of-ratios fractional programming problem, which is NP-complete. The advancements in computer systems and networks have created a new environment for criminal acts, widely known as cybercrime. Cybercrime incidents are occurrences of particular criminal offences that pose a serious threat to the global economy, safety, and well-being of society. This paper offers a comprehensive understanding of cybercrime incidents and their corresponding offences combining a series of approaches reported in relevant literature. Initially, this paper reviews and identifies the features of cybercrime incidents, their respective elements and proposes a combinatorial incident description schema. The schema provides the opportunity to systematically combine various elements—or cybercrime characteristics. Additionally, a comprehensive list of cybercrime-related offences is put forward. The offences are ordered in a two-level classification system based on specific criteria to assist in better classification and correlation of their respective incidents. This enables a thorough understanding of the repeating and underlying criminal activities. The proposed system can serve as a common reference overtaking obstacles deriving from misconceptions for cybercrimes with cross-border activities. The proposed schema can be extended with a list of recommended actions, corresponding measures and effective policies that match with the offence type and subsequently with a particular incident. This matching will enable better monitoring, handling and moderate cybercrime incident occurrences. Contribution: The main contribution is to provide practitioners and researchers with an insight in efficiently and effectively employing multi-attribute decision making (MADM) methods in e-learning website selection problems. Background: Advances in information systems and the Internet have resulted in e-learning websites becoming an important interface for learners. The selection of a particular website directly affects the end users’ performance, with the objectives and expected outcomes of e-learning being largely dependent on the quality of the teaching processes and the effectiveness of online access. Evaluation and selection of these websites has thus become a decisive issue for learners and developers. Intended Outcomes: This paper is expected to provide decision support to leaders in education and educational organizations in effectively analyzing and managing their e-learning system. A knowledge-based system may be developed to develop and assess e-learning websites in a meaningful way. Application Design: A hybrid MADM method, fuzzy complex proportional assessment (COPRAS) is used to evaluate, rank, and select e-learning websites of “C” programming language. The fuzzy COPRAS method is validated by comparison with the technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution, on an existing selection problem of 12 websites available in the open literature. Findings: Fuzzy COPRAS provides a comprehensive ranking of e-learning websites based on fitness degree values. The case study results rated tutorialspoint.com as the best of the e-learning websites considered, and howstuffworks.com was rated lowest. As one of the fundamental tasks in text analysis, phrase mining aims at extracting quality phrases from a text corpus and has various downstream applications including information extraction/retrieval, taxonomy construction, and topic modeling. Most existing methods rely on complex, trained linguistic analyzers, and thus likely have unsatisfactory performance on text corpora of new domains and genres without extra but expensive adaption. None of the state-of-the-art models, even data-driven models, is fully automated because they require human experts for designing rules or labeling phrases. In this paper, we propose a novel framework for automated phrase mining, $\mathsf{AutoPhrase}$ , which supports any language as long as a general knowledge base (e.g., Wikipedia) in that language is available, while benefiting from, but not requiring, a POS tagger. Compared to the state-of-the-art methods, $\mathsf{AutoPhrase}$ has shown significant improvements in both effectiveness and efficiency on five real-world datasets across different domains and languages. Most recent approaches for Text Simplification (TS) have drawn on insights from machine translation to learn simplification rewrites from the monolingual parallel corpus of complex and simple sentences, yet their effectiveness strongly relies on large amounts of parallel sentences. However, there has been a serious problem haunting TS for decades, that is, the availability of parallel TS corpora is scarce or not fit for the learning task. In this paper, we will focus on one especially useful and challenging problem of unsupervised TS without a single parallel sentence. To the best of our knowledge, we present the first unsupervised text simplification system based on phrase-based machine translation system, which leverages a careful initialization of phrase tables and language models. On the widely used WikiLarge and WikiSmall benchmarks, our system respectively obtains 39.08 and 25.12 SARI points, even outperforms some supervised baselines. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Nevertheless, Google has been deploying computers for machine learning (ML) training since 2017, powering key Google services. In this paper, we report our discovery on named entity distribution in a general word embedding space, which helps an open definition on multilingual named entity definition rather than previous closed and constraint definition on named entities through a named entity dictionary, which is usually derived from human labor and replies on schedule update. Our initial visualization of monolingual word embeddings indicates named entities tend to gather together despite of named entity types and language difference, which enable us to model all named entities using a specific geometric structure inside embedding space, namely, the named entity hypersphere. For monolingual cases, the proposed named entity model gives an open description of diverse named entity types and different languages. For cross-lingual cases, mapping the proposed named entity model provides a novel way to build a named entity dataset for resource-poor languages. High-performance multicast packet switching technologies are evolving to meet the growing demand for scalability on the Internet and datacenters, etc. Implementing a high-performance switch/router relies on a polynomial-time group membership query algorithm within the Packet Forwarding Engines (PFEs) to determine whether a packet is forwarded through an egress. Among these, Bloom filter (BF)-based and Residue Number System (RNS)-based are being considered as two representatives of the membership query algorithms. However, both approaches suffer from some fatal weaknesses such as false-positive probability and time inefficiencies, especially for a carrier-grade PFE with high port-density features. According to similar properties of the RNS, we propose a simplified forwarding algorithm in this paper, named Per-Port Prime Filter Array (P3FA). The simulation results indicate that the P3FA can significantly improve space efficiencies under specific lower egress-diversities conditions. Under the same space constraints, P3FA improves multicast and unicast time efficiency by 1 to 4 orders of magnitude in the port-density 16–1024 range compared to previous works. Mobile-Edge Computing (MEC) is an emerging paradigm in the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) to meet the ever-increasing computation demands of smart applications. To provide satisfactory computation performance, it is of significant importance to conduct computation offloading in IoV. In this paper, we investigate a multi-vehicle IoV system assisted by MECs with limited computation resources, where vehicles with complex applications can offload their subtasks to MEC servers. Applications are modeled as interdependent subtasks with general random task graphs, different from existing works with independent ones. To maximize the average logarithmic data processing rate (LDPR), the computation offloading problem is formulated as a time-average optimization with long-term constraints, which results from variable vehicle number, various applications and time-varying communication channels. To reduce the cooperation overhead, we propose a multi-agent Proximal Policy Optimization algorithm (Ly-MAPPO) which requires local observation only to solve the subproblems achieved by Lyapunov optimization technique in real time. In addition, to improve the performance of the Ly-MAPPO algorithm, Graph Convolutional Neural Network (GCN) is introduced to extract inter-dependencies between subtasks. Extensive simulations show that the GCN embedded Ly-MAPPO outperforms other baseline algorithms, e.g., greedy algorithm and gene algorithm, etc., for different traffic loads and computation resources in MEC servers. This paper presents a Ternary Content-addressable Memory (TCAM) design which is based on the use of floating-gate (flash) transistors. TCAMs are extensively used in high speed IP networking, and are commonly found in routers in the internet core. Traditional TCAM ICs are built using CMOS devices, and a single TCAM cell utilizes 17 transistors. In contrast, our TCAM cell utilizes only two flash transistors, thereby significantly reducing circuit area. We cover the chip-level architecture of the TCAM IC briefly, focusing mainly on the TCAM block which does fast parallel IP routing table lookup. Our flash-based TCAM (FTCAM) block is simulated in SPICE, and we show that it has a significantly lowered area compared to a CMOS based TCAM block, with a speed that can meet current (~400 Gb/s) data rates that are found in the internet core. An energy internet is a system that enables energy sharing in a distribution system such as the Internet. It has been attracting a lot attention from both academia and industry. The main purpose of this paper is to develop a model of an electric vehicle (EV) energy network to transmit, distribute, and store energy by EVs from renewable energy sources to places that need the energy. We describe the EV energy internet in detail and then formulate an optimization problem to place charging stations in an EV energy internet. We develop two solutions: one using a greedy heuristic and another based on diffusion. Simulation results using real-world data show that the greedy heuristic requires less charging stations, whereas the diffusion-based algorithm incurs less energy transmission loss. How to support multimedia services for people on the road is a pressing issue. Relying on the vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications, the limited wireless resources and vehicle sojourn time make it quite challenging to schedule the transmissions of multiple vehicles to ensure high efficiency and quality. In this paper, the scheduling of multimedia transmissions over drive-thru Internet is investigated. A utility model is devised to map the throughput to user's satisfaction level. The objective of the scheduling problem is to maximize the total utility. Then, the optimization problem is formulated as a finite-state decision problem with the assumption that future arrival information is known, and it is solved by a searching algorithm as the benchmark. To obtain a real-time solution, a practical heuristic algorithm based on the concept of utility potential is devised. We further implemented the solution and conducted extensive simulations using NS-3, and the simulation results show that the proposed heuristic algorithm can outperform the state-of-the-art one; therefore, it can effectively make scheduling decisions to achieve both higher utility and efficiency and better fairness. Efficiently optimizing large-scale, complex analog systems requires to know the performance tradeoffs for various analog circuit blocks. In this paper, we propose a radically new approach for analog performance tradeoff modeling. Our key idea is to broadly search the rich design knowledge from the Internet, and then mathematically encode the knowledge as high-dimensional performance tradeoff curves that are referred to as Pareto fronts in the literature. Toward this goal, several novel numerical algorithms, such as sparse regression and semi-infinite programming, are developed in order to construct the high-dimensional Pareto front model while guaranteeing its monotonicity. Our numerical examples demonstrate that the proposed modeling technique can accurately capture the high-dimensional Pareto fronts for large-scale analog systems (e.g., analog-to-digital converter) while most traditional methods are limited to low-dimensional Pareto front modeling of small circuit blocks without considering layout parasitics and manufacturing nonidealities. The dynamic network data have become ubiquitous with the rapid development of Internet and smart devices. To effectively manage the involved vertices in networks, it is crucial to track the special community patterns and analyze the relationships among vertices. In this paper, we propose a new method to measure the coherence strength, also referred to as community consistency, of a community over a specific observation period. The measurement of community consistency is especially challenging given the dynamic community structure over time, i.e., vertices can leave their original communities and join new communities. In order to interpret the causes of evolving community structure and model the influence of evolving community structure on community consistency, we introduce an influence propagation process having a causal relation with the community consistency. Specifically, a generative model is proposed to combine the influence propagation and the network topological structure at each time step. The proposed influence-based approach for modeling evolution can be instantiated in a variety of real-world network data. The comprehensive experiments on both synthetic and real-world datasets demonstrate the superiority of the proposed framework in estimating the community consistency. Cascading failure on complex networks has been extensively studied over the past decade. However, restoration of networks from cascading failure is still relatively unexplored. In this paper, we consider cascading failure in conjunction with the restoration process involving repairing the failed nodes in a sequential fashion. Depending on the availability of resources, we tackle the sequential recovery problem from two distinct approaches, namely, result-oriented and resource-oriented restoration approaches. In the result-oriented approach, we aim to restore the network to the largest extent and within the shortest time. Heuristic network restoration strategies based on node load or degree are proposed. For resource-oriented restoration, we aim to maximize the increase of network size with a given number of nodes to be repaired, and we propose a novel iterative strategy to improve performance. Simulation results on the Barábasi–Albert scale-free network, Internet autonomous system-level network, and IEEE 300 bus power system have demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed sequential recovery strategies. We propose an interface for easily accessing a variety of content using the metaphor of reading poetry. The interface is designed to search content by turning the pages of a book-like device. Using the device, the user can easily access desired content without pressing buttons many times, using complex graphical user interfaces, or using a scroll bar to scroll excessively. The prototype we developed can control TV, radio, and media files stored in an HDD and browse the Internet. Network flow problems cover a wide range of engineering and management applications. Many streamlined solution methods have been devised for solving different types of the problems. This paper investigates the network flow problems in that the arc lengths of the network are fuzzy numbers. Based on the integer-solution property of the network flow problem, the Yager ranking indices can be calculated for the fuzzy arcs to change the fuzzy formulation of the problem to a crisp formulation. Consequently, the conventional streamlined solution methods can still be applied to find an optimal solution. This optimal solution is proved to be the same as that derived from an exhaustive comparison of all possible solutions. Two examples, one shortest path and one transshipment, discussed in some previous studies illustrate that the method proposed in this paper is able to find the optimal solution. The current system to manage the global pool of IP addresses is centralized in five transnational organizations, known as regional internet registries (RIRs). Each of them manages the address pool for many countries. In this paper, we present InBlock, a distributed autonomous organization that provides the decentralized management of IP addresses. The InBlock also fulfills the same objectives as those fulfilled by the current IP address allocation organizations, i.e., uniqueness, fairness, conservation, aggregation, registration, and minimized overhead. The InBlock is implemented as a set of blockchain's smart contracts in Ethereum, and it implements all the functions needed for the management of a global pool of addresses without any human intervention. Any entity may request an allocation of addresses to the InBlock registry by performing a (crypto)currency transfer to the InBlock. The fee required, along with the annual renewal fee, serves as a mechanism to deter stockpiling and other wasteful practices. As with any novel technology, there are many open questions about the usage of blockchains to build an IP address registry. For this reason, we believe that practical experimentation is required in order to have hands-on experience, so we propose to conduct an experiment on the InBlock as a starting point to inform about the future directions in this space. Energy and power are key challenges in high-performance computing. System energy efficiency must be significantly improved, and this requires greater efficiency in all subcomponents. An important target of optimization is the interconnect, since network links are always on, consuming power even during idle periods. A large number of HPC machines have a primary interconnect based on Ethernet (about 40 percent of TOP500 machines), which, since 2010, has included support for saving power via Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE). Nevertheless, it is unlikely that HPC interconnects would use these energy saving modes unless the performance overhead is known and small. This paper presents PerfBound, a self-contained technique to manage on/off-based networks such as EEE, minimizing interconnect link energy consumption subject to a bound on the performance degradation. PerfBound does not require changes to the applications and it uses only local information already available at switches and NICs without introducing additional communication messages, and is also compatible with multi-hop networks. PerfBound is evaluated using traces from a production supercomputer. For twelve out of fourteen applications, PerfBound has high energy savings, up to 70 percent for only 1 percent performance degradation. This paper also presents DynamicFastwake, which extends PerfBound to exploit multiple low-power states.
