Composite materials have been widely used because of their superior properties compared to those of the original material. Separation of the constituent materials is not easy in the recycling process, and such an effort lowers economic viability. As such, this study employed a pyrolysis as a valorizing method for the composite material. Disposable paper cup waste (DPCW) was chosen as the model compound for paper-plastic composites. To offer green/sustainable features, CO2 was employed as a raw and reactive material in the pyrolysis process. It was proved that DPCW primarily composed of cellulose (outer layer) and polyethylene (inner layer). In the single-stage and multistage pyrolysis of DPCW, the CO2 reactivity in the homogeneous reaction of CO2 and DPCW-derived volatiles was not rapid. To accelerate the reaction kinetics governing the reactivity of CO2, the catalytic pyrolysis of DPCW over Ni/SiO2 was performed. The formation of syngas increases significantly, suggesting that CO2 reactivity was catalytically enhanced. The generation of syngas (enhanced by CO2) was inversely related to the DPCW oil generation, indicating that more carbon was assigned from the oil to the gaseous pyrogenic products. The Swedish pulp and paper industry accounts for half of industrial final energy use in Sweden and 2.3 % in EU-27. On the basis of a disaggregated set of physical production data, a Logarithmic Mean Divisia Index decomposition method is applied to disentangle the influence from activity, structure and energy efficiency improvement (EEI) on its fuel, electricity and primary energy use. An extended analysis tracks the fossil energy use and carbon dioxide (CO) emissions to discern past and present developments of industrial decarbonisation. In 1984-2011, the total production output increased by 49 %, whereas growth in primary energy use was limited to 26 %. Compared with an activity-based scenario, 50 PJ of primary energy use has been avoided through EEI and 6 PJ through structural change. The production has become oriented towards more electricity-intensive but less fuel-intensive segments. The electricity use EEI was negligible until year 2000 but sizeable thereafter as it started to outpace the counteracting impact from structural change. Results are consistent with previous bottom-up evaluations, and the policy context is further elaborated in a discussion about the role of relevant energy and climate policies in facilitating the enhanced EEI observed over the last decade. The case studies are introduced in this study, highlighting freight transportation via road and road rail between satellite cities in Pakistan's Punjab and Sindh provinces. The case study analysis contributes to developing environmentally friendly and cost-effective transportation solutions and reducing nitrous oxide (N2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions associated with road and intermodal freight transit. We developed a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model to formulate the bi-objective problem, including real-life constraints, emissions at starting nodes, ending notes, and between the arc. In the mathematical model, the cost and emissions functions are developed to minimize the primary and secondary objective functions in the road and intermodal transportation. Furthermore, five distinct sets (locations, starting stations, ending stations, transport orders, and transport service) with parameters relating to container movement between the starting and ending nodes are a necessary part of the MILP formulation. The multiobjective optimization problem is solved by metaheuristic techniques such as the multiobjective genetic algorithm as the goal of applying a metaheuristic algorithm is to find the search space to search the near to optimized solutions. The Pareto front solutions are provided for balancing the costs and emissions of transporting supplies from Punjab to Sindh using the MATLAB solver toolbox. We gathered data from one of Pakistan's most well-known logistics service providers in the paper industry. According to the findings, intermodal transportation is 72% more cost-effective than road transportation. A colorimetric assay was developed which has the capability of determining urea in biological samples. It is an origami paper-based sensor consisting of silver nanoparticles that were synthesized by using two different capping agents: thiomalic acid and maltol. The function of the assay relied on hydrolysis of urea to ammonia and carbon dioxide in the presence of urease. The products interacted with nanoparticles which caused aggregation. Interestingly, thiomalic acid capped with silver nanoparticles were selective to ammonia, and the other nanoparticles synthesized by maltol responded to carbon dioxide. These interactions turned the color of nanoparticles from yellow to brown and red, respectively. The resulting colorations were captured by a floatable scanner. A routine image analysis software was utilized to provide the response of the assays. The method was applied to individually determine ammonia, carbon dioxide, and urea. The linear range was 0.06 mg.dL−1-170.0 mg.dL−1 for ammonia, 0.08 mg.dL−1-220.0 mg.dL−1 for carbon dioxide, and 0.5 mg.dL−1-200.0 mg.dL−1 for urea. The respective limits of detection were 0.03 mg.dL−1, 0.06 mg.dL−1, and 0.18 mg.dL−1. No interferences were found in the detremination of urea. The adverse effects of climate change calls for the rapid transformation of manufacturing processes to decrease the emissions of carbon dioxide. In particular, a lower carbon footprint can be achieved by capturing carbon dioxide at the site of emission. Here we review the use of industrial effluents, waste and residues to capture carbon dioxide. Waste include steelmaking slag, municipal solid waste incinerator ashes, combustion fly ash, black liquor, paper mill waste, mining waste, cement waste, construction and demolition waste, waste from the organic industry, and flue gas desulfurization gypsum waste. Capture capacities range from 2 to 800 kg of carbon dioxide per ton of waste, depending on processes, waste type and conditions. Based on surface science, adsorption of mineral oil, water, gas products (typified by CO2 and CH4), and acids (typified by formic acid) on meta-aramid insulation paper has been investigated by molecular dynamics simulations. When the adsorption process finishes, the free volume fraction in the crystalline region is very small owing to the stable molecular arrangement of fiber. In addition, the number of pores on the surface of the meta-aramid fiber and the pore size are small, and the stable configuration of hydrogen bonds plays an important role, so it is difficult for the mineral oil and aging products to enter the meta-aramid crystalline region. The irregular arrangement of molecules in the amorphous region means that it is easier for the mineral oil and aging products to enter the amorphous region than the crystalline region, and the influence of these substances on the amorphous region is greater than that on the crystalline region. The order of the adsorption strengths of the four types of aging products on meta-aramid fiber is formic acid > water > CO2 > CH4. Paper samples were rendered superhydrophobic with Alkyl Ketene Dimer using (1) Airblasting with cryo ground micro particles, (2) crystallizing from organic solvents and (3) spraying with Rapid Expansion of Supercritical Solutions (RESS) technique. The papers were characterized using Scanning Electron Microscopy, contact angle to water measurements and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). Advancing contact angles were in the region of 150°–160° and receding contact angles were in the region of 110°–130°. Diagrams showing the drop base diameter vs. the contact angle when water is pumped into, and then withdrawn from, a sessile drop show that a stick slip pattern is present in the advancing phase for a non coated internally sized paper. Papers rendered superhydrophobic with the RESS technique showed a much less pronounced stick slip pattern in the advancing phase but still a stick slip pattern in the receding phase. This paper presents the eco-efficiency assessment of the pulp and paper industry in Myanmar by using the key indicators such as raw material consumption, energy consumption, total waste output, water consumption, and CO emissions. The study was carried out by using quantitative methods for data analysis of the production, consumptions and emissions from fiscal year 2001–2005. The results revealed that the level of economic and environmental performance using the eco-efficiency ratio for each fiscal year has decreased since year 2002, and factory tried to increase the level of eco-efficiency again in year 2005. There was the positive aspect that factory could optimize the waste utilization by transferring lime mud to the cement factory in the last two fiscal years. method for nonaqueous neutralization of various brands of paper with alcohol solutions of magnesium methoxide and methoxycarbonate is investigated. The minimum level of alkali reserve (100-150 mg-eq/kg) required for a prolonged preservation of the properties of paper is determined. A method for paper treatment with a neutralizing solution containing Freon, alcohol, and a neutralizing agent and saturated with subcritical carbon dioxide is proposed and experimentally tested. It is shown that, under certain conditions, supersaturation with carbon dioxide leads to the recrystallization of neutralizing agent and its deposition in the pores of paper in the form highly dispersed particles. The method makes it possible to adjust the alkali reserve (AR) level by varying the concentration of neutralizing agent and the degree of saturation of the solution with CO. The possibility of using supercritical CO as a solvent and transport medium for neutralizing agent (magnesium methoxycarbonate) to treat paper-based printings is examined. The optimal regimes of dissolution of neutralizing agent in supercritical CO and of paper treatment were selected, and the working parameters in the reactor and the ratio between the components at which the required level of the AR in paper is achieved are determined. The proposed methods for large-batch neutralization of the acidity of paper provide the minimum required AR level capable of ensuring the preservation of paper for a long period (up to 100 years) under conditions of natural aging with minimum amounts of expensive organic solvents, which indicates a high competitiveness of the proposed technologies of large-batch treatment of printed materials. This paper presents a critical review of laser pyrolysis. Although this technology is almost 60 years old, in literature many researchers, both from academia and industry, are still developing and improving it. On the contrary industrial applications are struggling to take off, if not in very restricted areas, although the technology has undoubted advantages that justify future development. The aim of this work consists in analysing a representative pool of scientific papers (230) and patents (121), from the last 20 years, to have an overview about the evolution of the method and try to understand the efforts spent to improve this technology effectively in academia and in industry. This study is important to provide a complete review about the argument, still missing in the literature. The objective is to provide an overview sufficiently broad and representative in the sources and to capture all the main ways in which laser pyrolysis has been used and with what distribution. The main focuses of the study are the analyses of the functions carried out by laser technologies, the application fields, and the types of used laser (i.e. models, power and fluence). Among the main results, the study showed that the main use of laser pyrolysis is to produce nanoparticles and coatings, the main materials worked by laser pyrolysis are silicon and carbon dioxide and the main searched properties in the products of laser pyrolysis are catalysts activity and electrical conductivity. CO2 lasers are the most used and the have high versatility compared to others. In conclusion, the study showed that laser pyrolysis is a consolidated technology within its main application fields (nanoparticles and coatings) for several years. Within this context, the technology has been developed on very different sizes and processes, obtaining a very wide range of results. Finally, these results may also have stimulated new areas of experimentation that emerged mainly in recent years and which concern biomedical applications, additive manufacturing, and waste disposal. Trying to understand how the interdependence relationship among the sectors of a given economy and its impacts on the environment is fundamental to the identification of sectors that are more polluting and those that are considered key in the sense of being less polluting. In order to describe this relationship, this work has as general objective to measure the level of CO2 emission from the level of production in function of the consumption of electric energy in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. In order to meet the general objective, from the state energy balance and the input–output matrix of 2010, a hybrid input–output matrix was derived. Thus, it was possible to identify that the service sector, although is the engine of the state GDP, represents only 16% of the emissions, agriculture and cattle raising 6% and industry 78%. The main sectors in CO2 emission are rubber and plastic articles and the pulp and paper production sector. Considering the estimates of growth of the state, the concern with the environment is emphasized as the driving sectors of the expansion being precisely those that emit more CO2. With the assistance of digital pen and paper technology in the field of prehospital data reporting, it seems to be possible to fulfill the requirements of „documentation“ as well as the requirements of „quality management“. The aim of this study was to determine the „primary documentation quality“ (PDQ) of a data reporting system based on digital pen and paper technology (so-called DINO) within a helicopter emergency medical service (HEMS) over a 6-month period. The PDQ is defined as the proportion of prehospital documented data, which is primarily recorded correctly by the data reporting system. For the national uniform core dataset (so-called MIND2) the PDQ was 96.7%, for „checkbox“ and „numeric data fields“ the PDQ was 99.8% and 93.6%, respectively and for „vital data“ the PDQ was 96.7% [heart rate (HF), measurement of blood pressure] and 84.1% [peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO2), end tidal carbon dioxide concentration (etCO2), oxygen administration (O2)]. For „measurements“ the PDQ was 96.9% (time stamps) and 86.9% (time frames), for „drugs“ the PDQ was 43.6% (drug name) and 69.8% (drug dosage) and for“placement of infusion” 42% (infusion name) and 85.3% (infusion time), respectively. The average time for the „verification process“ after mission completion was 1.5±0.4 min/mission. The „primary documentation quality“ of prehospital mission data reporting with the assistance of a digital pen and paper based documentation system (DINO) has been shown to completely fulfill the requirements of rapid and safe data documentation in actual missions, even at this early stage of development. The purpose of this study is to find the optimum conditions, including the type and concentration of solvent, and the solid/liquid ratio, for the extraction of calcium from Paper Sludge Ash (PSA). Solvents with different properties are divided into the following three groups to conduct the calcium extraction experiments: acid (acetic acid and hydrochloric acid), ammonium salt (ammonium chloride and ammonium acetate), and other (sodium citrate and water). The maximum efficiency of calcium extraction using acid is 54% at a concentration of 0.7 M and solid/liquid ratio of 1:25, while ammonium salt and sodium citrate extract calcium up to 30% and 28%, respectively, at a concentration of 0.3 M and solid/liquid ratio of 1:50. Bioelectrochemical reactors (BERs) with a cathodic working potential of −0.6 or −0.8 V more efficiently degraded cellulosic material, i.e., filter paper (57.4-74.1% in 3 days and 95.9-96.3% in 7 days) than did control reactors without giving exogenous potential (15.4% in 3 days and 64.2% in 7 days). At the same time, resultant conversions to methane and carbon dioxide in cathodic working chamber of BERs by application of electrochemical reduction in 3 days of operation were larger than control reactors. However, cumulative methane production in cathodic BERs was similar to those in control reactors after 7 days of operation. Microscopic observation and 16S rRNA gene analysis showed that microbial growth in the entire consortium was higher after 2 days of operation of cathodic BERs as compared with the control reactors. In addition, the number of methanogenic 16S rRNA gene copies in cathodic BERs was higher than in control reactors. Moreover, archaeal community structures constructed in cathodic BERs consisted of hydrogenotrophic methanogen-related organisms and differed from those in control reactors after 2 days of operation. Specifically, the amount of Methanothermobacter species in cathodic BERs was higher within archaeal communities than in those control reactors after 2 days of operation. Electrochemical reduction may be effective for accelerating microbial growth in the start-up period and thereby increasing microbial treatment of cellulosic waste and methane production. Background and Aims: Projected changes in the atmospheric concentrations of CO and tropospheric O over the next 50 years are of significant concern due to the linkages in the cycling of carbon and water in forested ecosystems. Responses of tree roots to elevated CO (eCO) and O (eO) have been characterized primarily by studies of relatively shallow roots, yet deeper roots often play a disproportionately large role in water acquisition relative to their biomass. We undertook the present study to determine if there were significant root responses to eCO and eO below the maximum soil depths typically studied. Methods: In the current study, we characterized small root biomass and morphometric responses to eCO and eO at the Aspen-FACE Experiment in Rhinelander, Wisconsin down to a depth of one meter. Results: Elevated CO caused relatively undifferentiated growth stimulation. Elevated O stimulated root growth in the AA community at depth, while in the AB community there was a reduction in root growth in the shallow soil layer that was reversed in the deeper layers. This study aimed to maximise the amount of CO2 storage by indirect carbonation using paper sludge ash (PSA), which is an alkaline industrial waste. The properties of the following three types of solvents were considered: acids (acetic acid and hydrochloric acid), ammonium salts (ammonium chloride and ammonium acetate) and others (sodium citrate and water). When carbon dioxide was injected into calcium leachates prepared from PSA using acids, carbonation did not occur, and using ammonium salts as solvent, the carbonation efficiency was low. However, after pH swing of the leachates using sodium hydroxide and ammonia solution for acid and ammonium salt solvents, up to 324 kg CO2/(ton PSA) and 175 kg CO2/(ton PSA) were stored, respectively. When carbon dioxide was injected into calcium leachates prepared from PSA using sodium citrate or water, solid was initially generated which later dissolved. In order to solve this problem, CO2 injection was stopped just before the pH of the solution reached 10.5 for sodium citrate and 8.3 for water, resulting in the storage of 136 kg CO2/(ton PSA) and 29 kg CO2/(ton PSA), respectively. This paper investigates overall CO2 balances of combined heat and power (CHP) plants with CO2 capture and storage (CCS) in Kraft pulp and paper mills. The CHP plants use biomass-based fuels and feature advanced gasification and combined cycle technology. Results from simple process simulations of the considered CHP plants are presented. Based on those results and taking into account the major direct and indirect changes in CO2 emissions, the study shows that implementing CCS leads to steep emission reductions. Furthermore, a preliminary cost assessment is carried out to analyse the CO2 mitigation cost and its dependence on the distance that the CO2 must be transported to injection sites. TiO2catalysts of anatase, rutile and brookite phase were prepared at low temperature and tested for carrying out the photocatalytic partial oxidation of 4-methoxybenzyl alcohol to 4-methoxybenzaldehyde (p-anisaldehyde) in organic-free water suspensions. Traces of 4-methoxybenzoic acid and open-ring products were the only by-products present, CO2being the other main oxidation product. Rutile exhibited the highest yield to p-anisaldehyde (62% mol) at a rate of the same order of magnitude of that showed by the other samples. Commercial rutile and anatase photocatalysts were also used for the sake of comparison. Nitrogen cycling in northern temperate forest ecosystems could change under increasing atmospheric CO2 and tropospheric O3 as a result of quantitative and qualitative changes in plant litter production. At the Aspen Free Air CO2–O3 Enrichment (FACE) experiment, we previously found that greater substrate inputs to soil under elevated CO2 did not alter gross N transformation rates in the first 3 years of the experiment. We hypothesized that greater litter production under elevated CO2 would eventually cause greater gross N transformation rates and that CO2 effects would be nullified by elevated O3. Following our original study, we continued measurement of gross N transformation rates for an additional four years. From 1999 to 2003, gross N mineralization doubled, N immobilization increased 4-fold, but changes in microbial biomass N and soil total N were not detected. We observed year-to-year variation in N transformation rates, which peaked during a period of foliar insect damage. Elevated CO2 caused equivalent increases in gross rates of N mineralization (+34%) and NH immobilization (+36%). These results indicate greater rates of N turnover under elevated CO2, but do not indicate a negative feedback between elevated CO2 and soil N availability. Elevated O3 decreased gross N mineralization (−16%) and had no effect on NH immobilization, indicating reduced N availability under elevated O3. The effects of CO2 and O3 on N mineralization rates were mainly related to changes in litter production, whereas effects on N immobilization were likely influenced by changes in litter chemistry and production. Our findings also indicate that concomitant increases in atmospheric CO2 and O3 could lead to a negative feedback on N availability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper reviews the existing applications of sensing technologies for measuring construction off-road vehicle emissions (COVE) such as earthmoving equipment. The current literature presented different measurement methods and reported the results of utilisation of new technologies for measuring COVE. However, previous papers used different technology applications covering only a part of the monitoring process with its own limitations. Since technologies are advancing and offering novel solutions, there is an urgent need to identify the gaps, re-evaluate the current methods, and develop a critical agenda for automating the entire process of collecting emissions data from construction sites, and monitoring the emission contributors across cities. This paper systematically identifies relevant papers through a search of three key databases—Web of Science, Engineering Valley and Scopus—covering the publications in the last decade from 2008 to 2017. An innovative robust research method was designed to select and analyse the relevant papers. The identified papers were stored in a data set, and a thematic algorithm employed to find the clusters of papers which might be potentially relevant. The selected papers were used for further micro-thematic analysis to find key relevant papers on COVE, and the gap in the literature. A sample of relevant papers was found relevant to COVE and critically reviewed by coding and content analysis. This paper critically reviews the selected papers and also shows that there is a considerable gap in the applications of new technologies for measuring in-use COVE in real time based on real activities toward automated methods. This review enables practitioners and scholars to gain a concrete understanding of the gap in measuring COVE and to provide a significant agenda for future technology applications. In the global ecosystem, wetlands are vital carbon sinks, playing a crucial role in absorbing greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and mitigating global warming. Accurate estimation of wetland carbon content is essential for research on wetland carbon sinks. However, the carbon cycle of wetlands is complex, and the carbon sinking of wetlands is affected by climate, topography, water level conditions, vegetation types, soil types, and other factors. This has caused significant challenges in the estimation of wetland carbon sinks. In current studies, most research has focused on the impact of individual factors on wetland carbon sinks, often ignoring the interaction between various factors, which further leads to uncertainty in wetland carbon measurements. This paper aims to elucidate the process of the wetland carbon cycle, summarize the factors affecting wetland carbon sinks, and explore the interplay between various factors and their influence on wetland carbon sinks, aiming to provide theoretical support for the study of wetland carbon sinks. Additionally, this paper reviews the advantages and disadvantages of current wetland carbon measurement methods, proposes research directions for combining machine learning methods, identifies existing difficulties in current wetland carbon measurement, and offers suggestions to serve as a reference for future wetland carbon sink estimation and wetland management.Highlights: The potential and significance of wetland carbon sinks are explained. Uranium from different uranium oxide matrices was extracted with tri- n-butyl phosphate–nitric acid (TBP–HNO3) adduct using supercritical carbon dioxide (SC CO2). While 30 min dissolution time at 323 K was sufficient for U3O8 and UO2 powder, UO2 granule (at 333 K) and crushed green pellet (at 353 K) required 40 min. Crushed sintered pellet required 60 min at 353 K for complete dissolution. Influence of various experimental parameters such as temperature, pressure, volume of TBP–HNO3 adduct, acidity of nitric acid used for preparing TBP–HNO3 adduct and extraction time on uranium extraction efficiency was also investigated. For UO2 powder, temperature of 323 K, pressure of 15.2 MPa, 1 mL TBP–HNO3 adduct, 10 M nitric acid and 30 min extraction time was found to be optimum. ~70% uranium extraction efficiency was obtained on extraction with SC CO2 alone which increased to 90% with the addition of 2.5% TBP in SC CO2 stream. Extraction efficiency was found to vary linearly with TBP percentage and nearly complete uranium extraction (~99%) was observed with 20% TBP. Nearly complete extraction was also achieved with addition of 2.5% thenoyltrifluoroacetylacetone (TTA) in methanol. Purpose: Wildfire is one of the most important natural disturbances in forest and multi-vegetation ecosystems, directly or indirectly affecting the structural processes and functions of forest ecosystems with varying degrees. Wildfire releases vast amounts of carbon dioxide and other substances by destroying vegetation, making itself an important topic for the study of global change and environmental impacts. Therefore, a deeper understanding of this topic is particularly crucial for managing forest ecosystems. Methods: This paper was based on a literature search of the Web of Science database for international forest wildfire research, utilizing bibliometric and quantity statistical analysis methods. Results: The results show that forest wildfire research has been rapidly growing over the last 20 years, with the number of relevant articles generally increasing yearly at an average annual growth rate of about 22.45%. The US tops the list in terms of total and independent publications, with a total of 3111 articles (49.88%). The key journals publishing on this topic include 12 journals, Stephens S.L., Bergeron Y., and Lindenmayer D.B. are the key contributing authors to the field, and research institutions are primarily concentrated in the US Forest Service. Keyword co-occurrence analysis shows that current forest wildfire research is focused on seven main areas. This paper systematically reviewed the progress and hotspots of international forest wildfire research in recent decades, mainly focusing on occurrences, severity, management, and warning techniques for wildfires, as well as the impact of climate change and human activities on wildfires. Conclusions: The study concludes that research trends in this field have undergone a significant evolution in recent decades. The future forest wildfire research moves towards a combination of typical mechanisms and large-scale effects across spatial and temporal scales, deep integration of aerospace and earth observations and precise simulations, discipline fusion, and couplings research. We believe that this study provides a comprehensive and systematic overview for future forest wildfire observation, prediction, management, and investigation of ecological effects. A paper-based electrochemical dual-function biosensor capable of determining pH and TCO2 was synthesized for the first time using an iridium oxide pH electrode and an all-solid-state ion electrode (ASIE). In the study, to obtain highly reliable results, the biosensor was equipped with a real-time pH correction function before TCO2 measurements. Compared to traditional liquid-filling carbon dioxide detection sensors, the utilization of ferrocene endows our novel sensor with abundant positive sites, and thus greatly improves its performance. Conversely, the introduction of MXene with conductivity close to that of metals reduces electrode resistance, which is beneficial for accelerating the electrochemical reaction of the sensor and reducing LOD. After optimization, the detection range of TCO2 is 0.095 nM–0.66 M, with a detection limit of as low as 0.023 nM. In addition, the sensor was used in real serum sample-spiked recovery experiments and comparison experiments with existing clinical blood gas analyzers, which confirmed the effectiveness of its clinical application. Reducing the use of fossil fuels is critical to human society. In recent years, electrocatalytic carbon dioxide (CO2) reduction has attracted widespread attention. A suitable CO2 reduction catalyst is essential to convert CO2 into more valuable chemical products with high selectivity and efficiency. In this paper, a highly selective ZnAlCe-Ternary metal hydroxides (ZnAlCe-THs) nanocomposite electrocatalyst material was designed and prepared, and its performance as an electrocatalyst for catalytic reduction of CO2 to carbon monoxide (CO) was explored. The layered structure of ZnAlCe-THs nanocomposites facilitates electron transfer as well as CO2 and proton transfer, providing a high specific surface area for the electroactive sites of the electrocatalytic reduction reaction. At the same time, the ZnAlCe-THs catalyst generates CO at an overpotential of − 0.5 V. At − 1.2 V versus the reversible hydrogen electrode (vs. RHE), the bias current density is about 10.46 mA cm−2 with high selectivity of 89.3% Faraday efficiency. Its excellent electrochemical properties make it a good catalyst for the selective reduction of CO2 to CO. In this paper, ZnAlCe-Ternary mental hydroxides (ZnAlCe-THs) with a layered hydrotalclike structure were prepared by hydrothermal and co-precipitation methods. It showed excellent catalytic performance in the electrocatalytic reduction of carbon dioxide to carbon monoxide with a Faraday efficiency of 89.3% at − 1.2 V vs. RHE and a current density of 10.46 mA cm−2 for higher selectivity for CO. The freight sector in Australia has been growing at an ever-increasing rate due to domestic and international demand for goods, commodities, and resources. Increased volume of traffic comes with increased greenhouse gas. Greenhouse gas impacts climate change and air pollution, increasing the risk of public health and safety. The European Union used Marco Polo to shift transit freight from road to sea, rail, and inland waterways to reduce the number of trucks on the road to lessen congestion, less pollution, and more reliable and efficient transport of goods. Fuel Tax Credit was similarly introduced in Australia to address some of these issues. It is now time to analyse the impact of these schemes. The urgent need to address global carbon emissions and promote sustainable energy solutions has led to a growing interest in carbon dioxide (CO2) conversion technologies. Among these, the transformation of CO2 into methanol (MeOH) has gained prominence as an effective mitigation strategy. This review paper provides a comprehensive exploration of recent advances and applications in the direct utilization of CO2 for the synthesis of MeOH, encompassing various aspects from catalysts to market analysis, environmental impact, and future prospects. We begin by introducing the current state of CO2 mitigation strategies, highlighting the significance of carbon recycling through MeOH production. The paper delves into the chemistry and technology behind the conversion of CO2 into MeOH, encompassing key themes such as feedstock selection, material and energy supply, and the various conversion processes, including chemical, electrochemical, photochemical, and photoelectrochemical pathways. An in-depth analysis of heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysts for MeOH synthesis is provided, shedding light on the advantages and drawbacks of each. Furthermore, we explore diverse routes for CO2 hydrogenation into MeOH, emphasizing the technological advances and production processes associated with this sustainable transformation. As MeOH holds a pivotal role in a wide range of chemical applications and emerges as a promising transportation fuel, the paper explores its various chemical uses, transportation, storage, and distribution, as well as the evolving MeOH market. Near miscibility widely exists in carbon dioxide (CO2) injection development projects. However, there is no existing approach to quantify the effect of near miscibility on oil recovery. In this paper, slim tube experiments were conducted to study near miscible region. The oil displacement efficiency curve is divided into immiscibility, near miscibility and miscibility. And three linear function is obtained, respectively. Then, the space between production well and CO2 injection well is discrete to characterize the effect of near miscibility on oil recovery. Then, a new approach is proposed to calculate oil recovery of CO2 displacement in tight oil reservoirs. This approach can calculate oil recovery considering near miscibility. It is found that minimum miscibility pressure (MMP) without considering near miscibility is 4 MPa lower than considering near miscibility. The near miscible pressure range is from 0.77 times to 1 time MMP considering near miscibility. Oil displacement efficiency difference reaches to be the maximum when the pressure is the minimum miscibility pressure without considering near miscibility. The maximum of the oil displacement efficiency difference is 3.4%. The optimal formation pressure considering near miscibility is 5 MPa larger than that without considering near miscibility. The oil recovery considering near miscibility is from 0.9 to 1.3% lower than that not considering near miscibility. It reaches to be the maximum when the pressure is the optimal formation pressure level without considering near miscibility. The maximum of the oil recovery difference is 1.3%. Utilizing carbon dioxide in chemical processes is one of the suggested remedies for reducing its atmospheric concentration. In this paper, the simulation of the propylene carbonate production process using 1,2-propanediol and carbon dioxide has been performed. The impact of temperature was examined between 75 and 400°C. It has been found that as temperature rises, reaction conversion increases. Additionally, the impact of recycling ratio was examined in the range of 0.1–0.5, which demonstrates that a rise in the recycle ratio results in a fall in conversion. Furthermore; it was observed that the pressure initially increases the solubility of carbon dioxide in 1,2-propanediol and improves the conversion of the reaction, but when enough carbon dioxide is supplied in the reaction, increasing the pressure does not affect the corresponding reaction. The effect of all studied parameters depends on the residence time of the reactants in the reactor. Investigating the interaction of parameters and optimizing the process has shown several optimal point of the process such as temperature of 295 °C, a recycle ratio 0.1, feed ratio 0.8 and a residence time of 12.61 h, with the related conversion being 59.6%. We examined the effects of CO-mediated changes in the foliar chemistry of paper birch ( Betula papyrifera) and white pine ( Pinus strobus) on performance of the gypsy moth ( Lymantria dispar). Trees were grown under ambient or enriched CO conditions, and foliage was subjected to plant chemical assays and insect bioassays. Enriched CO atmospheres reduced foliar nitrogen levels and increased condensed tannin levels in birch but not in pine. Foliar carbohydrate concentrations were not markedly altered by CO environment. Gypsy moth performance was significantly affected by CO level, species, and the CO x species interaction. Under elevated CO conditions, growth was reduced for larvae fed birch, while development was prolonged for larvae fed pine. This paper investigates whether carbon dioxide (CO2) intensity of gross domestic product (GDP) matters for environmental deregulations in Southern European countries over the period of 1990–2018 while controlling economic growth, globalization, and energy consumption. The present study uses the second generation panel based techniques, namely cross-sectional dependency test, cross-sectional unit-root test, Westerlund cointegration test, augmented mean group and common correlated effects mean group estimators, and Dumitrescu–Hurlin causality test to measure the effect of CO2 intensity of GDP, economic growth, globalization, and energy consumption on environmental degradation. The empirical finding of the present study reveals that the CO2 intensity of GDP is an important factor in determining environmental degradation in South European countries, as the outcomes show that a 1% boost in CO2 intensity of GDP is causing a 1.7728% increase in CO2 emissions. Moreover, a 1% increase in economic growth caused a 0.2568% boost in CO2 emissions. Accurate estimation of CO2-brine Interfacial Tension (IFT) is of great importance since it is required to model the residual/capillary trapping of CO2 in geological formations. In this paper, a novel correlation is proposed based on the classical orthogonal polynomials to estimate the CO2-brine IFT of monovalent salts with common anion. To do so, CO2-brine IFT samples composed of samples from the literature and experimentally measured values using an in-house high-pressure high-temperature IFT measurement device were collected within a wide range of temperatures, pressures, and salinities. The utilized brines included NaCl and KCl salts. Then, a predictive model was developed based on the Group Method of Data Handling approach as a function of temperature, pressure, and ionic strength. The proposed method was compared with four methods from the literature in terms of average absolute percentage error (AAPE), coefficient of determination R 2 , histograms of error, and percent error plots. Results showed the superiority of the proposed method over other methods with an AAPE of 9.85 and R 2 of 0.719. Also, it was shown that the proposed method did not produce too large errors, contrary to other methods. One of the possible sources of carbon dioxide emission into the atmosphere can be river ecosystems. The paper presents the results of measuring CO2 fluxes from the surface of several rivers and lakes in Tomsk Region. In the experimental period, average carbon dioxide fluxes were 143.7 ± 21.7 (August 13–14, 2023), 53.3 ± 21.2 (August 19), and 80.4 ± 59.9 mgC m−2 h−1 for the Ob River; 66.1 ± 17.3 mgC m−2 h−1 for the Ket River; 33.3 ± 17.3 mgC m−2 h−1 for the swamp Karasevoye Lake, 50.2 ± 23.0 mgC m−2 h−1 for the Suiga River, and 81.9 ± 11.5 mgC m−2 h−1 for the Iksa River. Catalytic synthesis of urea is a bright substitutable to Haber–Bosch progression and industrial urea synthesis. Electrochemical C–N coupling of carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides under environmental conditions is a newly developed method, which also provides a novel opinion for solving nitrate contamination. Conjugated organic frameworks (COFs) have been used as prospective electrocatalysts for nitrogen reduction reactions and carbon dioxide reduction reactions (CO2RR) as a result of their regulate structure and multihole properties, resulting in efficient electron transfer. This paper reports the efficient synthesis of urea from carbon dioxide and nitrate over MoM1S-Pc-M2PPs COF (M as a transition metal) electrocatalyst. According to the calculation of DFT, it was found that it was difficult for carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide to coadsorb on MoM1S-Pc to synthesize urea, so we chose to synthesize CO on the metal porphyrin (M2PPs) structural unit, and then overflow on the bimetallic phthalocyanine and nitrogen oxide to synthesize urea. The possibility of nitrate adsorption on different catalysts was verified by calculation. We screened the stability, nitrate adsorption strength, and catalytic activity of MoM1S-Pc candidates, and the results showed that the most promising candidate catalyst was MoFeS-Pc. At the same time, the CO2RR M2PPs substrate was also screened, and the VPPs structure was selected as the best. In the study of coupling between different nitrogen-containing intermediates and *CO, the C–N coupling mechanism shows that *NOH and *CO are two possible C–N coupling nitrogen intermediates, which are shown to be thermodynamically spontaneous and have an inferior activation barrier. This study not only provisions novel perceptions into urea synthesis by coupling nitrogen oxides with carbon dioxide under environmental conditions, but also paves the way for boosting the sustainable production of carbon and nitrogen-coupled products. This paper evaluated ZnO, SiO2 and zeolite 13X for removing CO2 from normal heptane (nC7) as synthetic gas condensates in batch mode. Based on the results of CO2 adsorption isotherms, zeolite 13X had the highest CO2 uptake in 1400–3700 ppm at atmospheric pressure. Due to the higher specific surface area of granular zeolite 13X, its CO2 uptake was more than that of zeolite 13X powder. Also, the CO2 adsorption equilibrium time was less than 30 min for zeolite 13X powder. The selectivity of zeolite 13X powder (i.e., H2S/CO2) was 2.36–4.08 for 2001–3930 ppm H2S with 1668 ppm CO2. Besides, the CO2 breakthrough time for zeolite 13X powder was 50–4 min for WHSV (weight hourly space velocity) = 5–20 h−1 at 30 bar in continuous mode. Additionally, for the increased CO2 concentration from 1000 to 3000 ppm, the CO2 breakthrough time decreased from 30 to 11 min with WHSV = 10 h−1. The CO2 breakthrough time diminished by 2.5-fold as the pressure was reduced from 30 bar to atmosphere for the initial CO2 concentration of 1000 ppm in nC7 and WHSV = 10 h−1. Subsequently, the regeneration of zeolite 13X by stagnant hot air was investigated for the CO2 concentration range of 1000–3000 ppm, air-adsorbent contact time range of 30–180 min and temperature range of 100–300 °C using Box–Behnken design. Using the new measure of the export quality of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), this paper investigates the effects of the product quality of exports on the growth rate of the per capita carbon dioxide emissions. The paper focuses on the panel dataset of 82 developing economies for the period from 1970 to 2014. Along with the index of export quality, we also consider the measures of the per capita income, per capita energy consumption, natural resource rents, and trade openness. The results indicate that there is the positive impact of the quality of exports on carbon dioxide emissions. There is also the positive relationship between the per capita income and carbon dioxide emissions. In addition, we find that the trade openness measures are positively related to carbon dioxide emissions. It has been a crucial challenge for countries worldwide to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. China is developing policies among various industries to peak CO2 emissions as soon as possible and expects the reduction of CO2 emissions through financial development. This paper explores the influencing mechanism of financial development on CO2 emissions based on panel data from provinces in China, considering constraints of technological innovation and fossil energy dependence among provinces and periods. Empirical results consistently indicate that the effect of China's financial development on CO2 emissions per capita is significantly negative, and it also presents an inverted U-shaped pattern. In those provinces or periods witnessing lower technological innovation and higher fossil energy dependence, the financial development has more significant effect on carbon emission reduction. This result suggests that regions with deficiencies in the development of technology industries, lower proportions of the tertiary industry, and a higher percentage of the secondary industry need to focus more on the value of financial development. We examined the effects of elevated CO2 and O3 and their interaction on leaf litter chemistry and decomposition in pure stands of aspen ( Populus tremuloides) and mixed stands of birch ( Betula papyrifera) and aspen at the Aspen Free Air CO2 Enrichment (FACE) experiment. A 935-day in situ incubation study was performed using litterbags filled with naturally senesced leaf litter. We found that elevated CO2 had no overall effects on litter decomposition rates, whereas elevated O3 reduced litter mass loss (−13%) in the first year. The effect of O3 on mass loss disappeared in the second year. For aspen litter but not mixed birch-aspen litter, decomposition rates were negatively correlated with initial concentrations of condensed tannins and phenolics. Most soluble components (94% of soluble sugars, 99% of condensed tannins, and 91% of soluble phenolics) and any treatment effects on their initial concentrations disappeared rapidly. However, the mean residence time (MRT) of birch-aspen litter (3.1 years) was significantly lower than that of aspen litter (4.8 years). Further, because of variation in total litterfall, total litter mass, C, lignin and N remaining in the ecosystem was highest under elevated CO2 and lowest under elevated O3 during the incubation period. Our results indicate that elevated CO2 and O3 can alter short-term litter decomposition dynamics, but longer-term effects will depend more on indirect effects mediated through changes in forest community composition. Treatment effects on soluble components are likely to influence cyclical microbial processes and carbon pulses in the ecosystem only when coupled with increased (CO2) or decreased (O3) litter inputs. ZnZrOx has been used in large quantities for the preparation of light olefins from CO2, but the relationship between structure and performance remains unclear at present. In this paper, ZnZrOx were prepared by co-precipitation method, and a series of oxides with different sizes were prepared by varying the calcination temperatures. Subsequently, these oxides were combined with SAPO-34 to create a composite bifunctional catalyst for the synthesis of light olefins by CO2 hydrogenation, in which the impact of nanocrystal size effect was examined. The catalytic performance significantly increased as the nanocrystal size reduced from 18 to 12 nm. However, when the nanocrystal size was further decreased to 8 nm, the catalytic performance decline. Characterizations revealed a gradual increase in the number of oxygen vacancies with decreasing nanocrystal size. However, the oxide with the smallest nanocrystal size, prepared by varied calcination temperatures, did not yield the optimal catalytic performance due to sintering occurring during the reaction process. The results show that the assumption that smaller nanocrystal sizes inherently equate to improved catalytic performance is not universally valid, and stability must be considered when the nanocrystal size is decreased. Agriculture has a main impact on increasing the economy of most developing countries, and energy policies in fighting climate change have a vital role in strengthening economic growth. This paper studies the impact of agriculture, trade openness and green energy on CO2 emissions in Rwanda during 1990–2022. Phillips- Peron and Augmented Dickey fuller unit root test affirmed the stationary of data, and autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL)-bound testing confirmed a long-run relationship among variables. The study employed an ARDL approach. Findings from long-run elasticities showed that 1% increase in agriculture productivity increased carbon dioxide emissions by 1.94%; 1% increase in trade openness increased carbon dioxide emissions by 0.16%; whereas 1% increase in renewable energy consumption and GDP per capita decreased carbon dioxide emissions by 2.71% and 2%, respectively. The result confirmed the induced environment curve and the pollution haven hypothesis in Rwanda. Moreover, green energy consumption and GDP per capita decreases CO2 emissions eventually, which supports the validity of environment Kuznets curve in Rwanda. The findings recommend that an increase in renewable energy usage and trade reforms accompanied by strong environmental policies to reduce CO2 emissions will develop the agriculture sector and regional economy. This paper studied some equilibria in the Nd3+–water–nitric acid–TODGA (N,N,N,N-tetraoctyl diglycolamide)–CO2 system and the efficiency of extraction of Nd3+ ions from aqueous solutions into the supercritical (SC) CO2 phase at 313–353 K and 18.0–40.0 MPa. It was shown that, in the absence of TODGA, Nd3+ ions do not pass into the SC phase. The extraction efficiency increases with decreasing temperature and with increasing nitric acid concentration CNA in the aqueous solution. At 313 K, CNA > 1.5 mol/L, TODGA content not less than 100 mol/g-at. Nd, and CO2pressure ensuring complete dissolution of TODGA (19.0 MPa), Nd3+ completely pass into the SC phase. With increasing content of neodymium ions in the system, the pressure and amount of CO2 required for complete dissolution of TODGA increase. This is likely to be due to a decrease in the intensity of intermolecular interactions in the SC phase during the passage of polar Nd complexes with TODGA and nitrate ions into it. The overall purpose of this study is to investigate the potential for producing higher energy biogas at elevated fermentation pressures. Upgrading of biogas is often carried out to increase its methane (energy) content by removing carbon dioxide. Upgrading is used, for example, to give methane of sufficient purity that it can be injected directly into the gas supply grid. In this research, freshwater algae are used as the feedstock for anaerobic digestion (AD) to produce biogas as a source of renewable energy. Although this has been the subject of extensive research over the past few decades, the main reason why AD has not been more widely commercialised is because it can have poor economic viability. In this paper, we used two similar bioreactors of capacity 1.5 L to generate biogas at different pressures. The methane concentration of the biogas increases to at least 70.0% for a headspace pressure greater than 4 bara compared to 57.5% or less when the pressure is less than 1.6 bara. The higher pressure operation therefore reduces the amount of upgrading required leading to a reduction in the cost of this step. Another interesting finding of this study is that the solubility of biogas in the digestate is estimated to be only 3.7% (best fit value) of its solubility in pure water, which is much lower than the values previously reported in the literature. The pre-industrial state of the global carbon cycle is a significant aspect of studies related to climate change. In this paper, we recall the power law kinetic representations of the pre-industrial models of Schmitz (Chem Eng Educ 36(4):296–309, 2002) and Anderies et al. (Environ Res Lett 8(4):044–048, 2013) from our earlier work. The power law kinetic representations, as uniform formalism, allow for a more extensive analysis and comparison of the different models for the same system. Using the mathematical theories of chemical reaction networks (with power-law kinetics), this work extends the analysis of the kinetic representations of the two models and assesses the similarities and differences in their structural and dynamic properties in relation to model construction assumptions. The analysis includes but is not limited to the coincidence of kinetic and stoichiometric spaces of the networks, capacity for equilibria multiplicity and co-multiplicity, and absolute concentration robustness in some species. We bring together previously published results about the power law kinetic representations of the two models and consolidate them with new observations here. We also illustrate how the pre-industrial model of Anderies et al. may serve as a building block in the analysis of a kinetic representation of a global carbon cycle with carbon dioxide removal intervention. The paper presents the results of impregnation of dried common pine (Pinus sylvestris) specimens with propiconazole using a supercritical fluid CO2 impregnation process carried out at a temperature of 338 K in the pressure range of 10–30 MPa. Within the framework of the formation of a database on the properties of the impregnation material required for the stages of modeling, optimization, and scaling of the impregnation process, an investigation was conducted of some thermodynamic properties of a propiconazole–carbon dioxide mixture in the supercritical fluid region of the state. The isomeric composition of propiconazole has been investigated, and it has been established that it represents a mixture of two isomers. The methods of thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry have been used to study the thermal characteristics of propiconazole. The paper presents the results of an experimental investigation of propiconazole solubility in supercritical carbon dioxide on the isotherms T = 338, 358, and 378 K in the pressure range of 10–30 MPa. The experimental data on solubility have been described using the Peng–Robinson equation of state and providing the pressure of saturated propiconazole vapors with the status of the second adjustable parameter in the calculation algorithm. Power transformer insulation is degraded and decomposed over time. Due to the importance of cellulose, indicators such as 2-Furfural, CO, CO2, and CO2/CO ratio are used to investigate cellulose aging status because these are cellulose degradation products. However, various studies have shown that using each of these indicators alone may lead to incorrect cellulose degradation diagnosis. Therefore, a new calculated index called CFA index (an abbreviation of Carbon, Furfural, and Acetylene) that considers the effects of four indicators (CO, CO2, 2-furfural, acetylene) together will be presented in this paper. The CFA index has been obtained from the analysis of 216 power transformer measurement data using the correlation coefficients calculation. The reason for considering acetylene is the importance of its production and the high correlation coefficient between acetylene and transformer age. In this method, if the transformer has the CFA index between −2 and −5.3, then it can be ensured that the transformer does not suffer from severe cellulose aging or decomposition. The normal range for the CFA index is obtained from investigating data from many power transformers, all with CO2/CO ratio between 3 and 10. Finally, to verify the accuracy of the CFA index and its ability to detect cellulosic insulation degradation and the inefficiency of other methods in some cases, dissolved gas analysis (DGA) test results of 306 power transformers will be investigated, and results will be fully presented. The surge of carbon dioxide emission plays a dominant role in global warming and climate change, posing an enormous threat to the development of human being and a profound impact on the global ecosystem. Thus, it is essential to analyze the carbon dioxide emission change trend through an accurate prediction to inform reasonable energy-saving emission reduction measures and effectively control the carbon dioxide emission from the source. This paper proposed a hybrid model by combining the random forest and extreme learning machine together for the carbon dioxide emission forecasting in this paper; the random forest is applied for influential factors analysis and the extreme learning machine for the prediction. To improve the performance of the prediction model, moth-flame optimization is adopted to optimize initial weight and bias in extreme learning machine. A case study whose data is derived from Hebei Province, China, during the period 1995-2015 is conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed model. Results show that the novel model outperforms the compared parallel models in carbon dioxide emission prediction and has the potential to improve the accuracy of CO2 emission forecasting. The purpose of this paper is to strengthen research concerning the impact of climate change on China's water resources, in order to avoid extreme weather events such as regional rainstorms and floods affecting the stable supply of energy and electricity. The goal is to reorganize energy industry allocation to make China's energy the most efficient, which would thus help achieve sustainable development goals. The biggest contribution and of this paper is not only to enlarge the scale and take into account the sustainable aspects, but also to consider climate change factors that have been ignored in the past as exogenous variables. For the first time, we take stock of the optimal allocation of new and tradition energy sources and carbon dioxide. This study uses the Dynamic ZSG-DDF model with exogenous variables and undesirable outputs to find a way to redistribute carbon dioxide, new energy, and tradition energy from different provinces on the premise of maximizing efficiency, thus achieving the goal of reducing carbon and saving the earth. The research results show that the energy efficiency of tradition energy is higher than that of new energy in various provinces. At the same time, the China government must comprehensively review the quota targets of new energy, tradition energy, and carbon dioxide (CO2) in each province as quickly as possible. The article discusses the study of David Frank, a climatologist at the Swiss Federal Research institute to determine the effect of carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere.
