The aim of the present paper is to present the message transmitted by the Presidential Lecture given during the first congress of arthroscopy organised in Romania, in March 2016, by the Romanian Society of Arthroscopy and Sports Trauma (SRATS). The goal was to present the evolution of medical care in Romania over the years, with the remarkable progress made in the first half of the twentieth century and the current status of arthroscopic surgery as seen from the point of view of medical professionals, as well as from a governmental point of view. Telemedicine is valuable to many developing countries. International use of telemedicine is widespread. Telemedicine can improve health care in the developing countries by removing time and distance barrier, and optimize the use of limited health services in developing countries. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the current situation of healthcare services and telecommunications infrastructure in Bhutan. It summarizes the experience gained from a previous telemedicine pilot project initiated and implemented by the Telecommunication Development Bureau, International Telecommunication Union (BDT/ITU). It also introduces the priorities of telemedicine development set out by the local health authorities as well as the international organizations. By analyzing the common and most urgent problems in the country, which could be alleviated by using telemedicine, it formulates several recommendations concerning the future development strategy of telemedicine in Bhutan. The article discusses research and a conference about diagnostic error in medicine. A report was published by the U.S. Institute of Medicine in 1999 showing that 44,000 to 98,000 deaths yearly could be attributed to preventable medical errors. Aside from a few patient safety/quality improvement researchers' interest in diagnostic errors, other research domains with a history in diagnostic errors include medical problem solving, normative decision making, and medical informatics. Highlights of a conference on diagnostic error in medicine held from May 31 to June 1, 2008 in Naples, Florida are also discussed.

The article presents the author's views on the Sexual Medicine Society of North America 2002 meeting, which was actually held in Florida in January 2003. The reason that this meeting was an invited speaker symposium and was held in the early Winter of 2003 as opposed to 2002 was out of respect to the International Society of Sexual and Impotence Research whose biennial meeting was held in Montreal, Quebec in the Fall of 2002. So as not to interfere with this important international meeting in which abstracts were presented, the North American Society decided to provide for their members what should become a traditional symposia-type meeting in even years.

The article presents information on the "7th European Federation of Autonomic Societies (EFAS) Meeting," that is scheduled to be held during May 18-21, 2005 at Bled, Solvenia. The lecture on autonomic medicine will be based on personal observations, which began in 1972 in Oxford. This branch of medicine has benefited from both reductionist and integrative research and is an excellent example of investigative and evidence based medicine. It is now recognized as being instrumental in diagnosis and management of a wide variety of neurological and medical disorders.
