The honeycomb type monolith reactor dominates the field of catalytic automotive exhaust gas after treatment systems and is increasingly being used in other applications. Advanced computational modelling of such systems can provide valuable insight into their operating characteristics and be used as a design tool. This reactor provides an excellent example of a multi-scale modelling challenge with many complexities. This paper provides a perspective on the development and use of computational modelling tools in this context over the last 30 years, with an emphasis on the work published by the researchers at the University of Alberta. This paper covers all aspects of model development, including single channel and full-scale reactor models and inter and intra mass and heat transfer effects, with the latter including radiation. Aim: Demands for mental health services in post‐secondary institutions are increasing. This paper describes key features of a response to these needs: ACCESS Open Minds University of Alberta (ACCESS OM UA) is focused on improving mental health services for first‐year students, as youth transition to university and adulthood. Methods: The core transformation activities at ACCESS OM UA are described, including early case identification, rapid access, appropriate and timely connections to follow‐up care and engagement of students and families/carers. In addition, we depict local experiences of transforming existing services around these objectives. Results: The ACCESS OM UA Network has brought together staff with diverse backgrounds in order to address the unique needs of students. Together with the addition of ACCESS Clinicians these elements represent a systematic effort to support not just mental health, but the student as a whole. Key learnings include the importance of community mapping to developing networks and partnerships, and engaging stakeholders from design through to implementation for transformation to be sustainable. Conclusions: Service transformation grounded in principles of community‐based research allows for incorporation of local knowledge, expertise and opportunities. This approach requires ample time to consult, develop rapport between staff and stakeholders across diverse units and develop processes in keeping with local opportunities and constraints. Ongoing efforts will continue to monitor changing student needs and to evaluate and adapt the transformations outlined in this paper to reflect those needs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Dr. Tomonari Kaji, an exceptional young evolutionary morphologist at the University of Alberta, passed away unexpectedly in May of this year. His passion for the study of developmental and evolutionary transformations yielded a succession of intriguing papers about how spectacular morphological innovations develop or evolved, including such remarkable structures as crustacean suction cups, squirting heads in termite soldiers, envenomating mandibles in copepods, and shrimp and amphipod claws that create explosive snaps. Significantly, his work is a valuable reminder of how great advances in our understanding of the development and evolution of morphological innovations can be made simply by looking carefully and thinking about what you see, no genetics/genomics or complex statistics required. The article focuses on the program for the annual meeting of the Phycological Society of America. The meeting will be held at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, in Canada, from June 20-24, 1971. The chairmen of the program will be Harold C. Bold and Louis Druehl. All sessions of the program at which contributed papers, lectures and the symposium are presented are scheduled as joint sessions of the Phycological Society of America, the Phycological Section of the Canadian Botanical Association and the Phycological Section of the Botanical Society of America.

The article provides guidelines to authors who wish to contribute to the journal "Journal of Historical Sociology." The journal welcomes articles that contribute to the historically grounded understanding of human societies, whatever their disciplinary provenance or theoretical standpoint. For paper submission, four copies of the manuscript should be sent to Derek Sayer and Yoke-Sum Wong, Department of Sociology, University of Alberta, Edmonton in Alberta. All contributions should be accompanied by an abstract of no more than 100 words, and a brief biographical note including institutional affiliation. The article states that the authors should write in plain English, and that various spellings may be used as long as they are consistent within an article. Manuscripts should be typed double-spaced throughout, including quotations, notes, and references. Illustrations should be submitted in camera-ready form, and provided on separate sheets and should not included in the body of the text. A note in the text should indicate location of illustrations.
