In order to reduce the vibration of shunt reactors with gapped iron-core structure, accurate stress computation should be carried out. The magnetization and magnetostrictive anisotropy should be considered in the calculation. In this paper, the magnetization and magnetostrictive properties of non-oriented silicon steel sheets along the rolling direction and the transverse direction are first measured by a magnetization and magnetostriction tester. Based on the measurement results, an electromagneto–mechanical coupled numerical model for shunt reactors, considering magnetization and magnetostrictive anisotropy, has been developed. Then, the stress distribution of the reactor core is calculated and that between isotropy and anisotropy numerical model is compared. This paper deals with the harmonic-balance (HB) finite-element (FE) analysis of a multi-turn winding device coupled to electrical circuits comprising nonlinear components. The eddy-current effects in the windings are accounted for via a frequency-dependent reluctivity and impedance determined with a homogenization technique. The proposed multi-frequency approach is validated through a single-phase four-diode rectifier with an axisymmetric FE model of an inductor. The system of nonlinear algebraic equations is solved by means of the Newton–Raphson method. The HB results are validated with classical time-stepping simulations. Replacing the batteries of wearable medical devices is an inconvenience to the user. Wireless power transfer (WPT) could be a solution for this problem. However, the structure should be compact to satisfy the wearable device requirements and the power efficiency should be as high as possible for prolonging the user experience. Besides, as algorithms embedded in these devices become more complex, the device power consumption also increases. Fulfilling these specifications in a compact structure with better efficiency is the aim of this research paper. This paper proposes a power processing module for WPT applications. This module is embedded within the WPT path to convert receiving end ac power to dc power, and to simultaneously provide multiple dc–dc power conversion for wearable medical devices. The ac–dc circuit is specifically designed using a compact topology to convert wireless ac power to stable dc power. The dc power is further regulated by different mode controls either to perform battery charging or to provide independent voltage supplies to dc loads. A novel hybrid pulse width modulation (PWM) technique is proposed in this paper for two parallel interleaved, two-level, three-phase voltage source inverters (VSIs). The two parallel interleaved VSIs are analyzed as a three-level (3L) inverter. A 3L inverter provides minimum line current ripple when nearest three voltage vectors are applied. In this paper, a novel carrier-based PWM technique is developed that ensures the application of nearest voltage vectors, keeping average circulating current to zero over a switching period. For carrier-based implementation of the proposed PWM, generalized common-mode (CM) offsets are derived in terms of maximum and minimum values of reference signals. Each 3L space-vector sector is divided into seven subsectors. For each subsector, a CM offset is calculated, addition of which to reference signals ensures the minimum line current ripple and zero average circulating current. The phase-shifted full-bridge (PSFB) converter is widely employed in high-power applications. However, circulating current, narrow range of zero-voltage switching (ZVS), duty-cycle loss, and secondary parasitic oscillation are the main drawbacks of the traditional PSFB converter. This paper proposes an improved full-bridge converter to solve the drawbacks of the traditional PSFB converter. In the proposed converter, a coupled inductor with three windings is introduced to adjust the available ZVS energy and to transfer power to the output side during freewheeling period. Due to this structure, output filter requirement, circulating current, the required ZVS energy, and secondary voltage oscillation can be reduced. Adjustable speed drive (ASD) and motors, if selected as a prime mover for compressors, pumps, extruders, etc., can provide various electromechanical benefits to its operators and stakeholders. Their benefits and application considerations have been well documented in past papers and tutorials. However, a successful installation of a multimegawatt motor and ASD system requires detailed application, engineering, manufacturing, testing, and installation considerations. Many times testing is requested by the operator and/or consultant, but navigating the types of tests available, test procedures, plans, and how they comply with appropriate standards is often not fully understood. This can lead to surprises, shipment delays, price adders, and ultimately the equipment itself not being in compliance with the stated project objectives. This paper attempts to address the factory acceptance testing phase of a medium voltage motor and ASD system whether procured separately or as a package. Issues such as type of test selection, specifications, standards, preparation, acceptance criteria, and finally string testing will be covered. A W-band injection-locked frequency divider (ILFD) with low-power and wide locking range is presented in this paper. The operation frequency and locking range are enhanced by using split transformer-coupled oscillator. The optimum bias and the size of the injection transistor are chosen to achieve wider locking range without increasing chip area and dc power consumption. The proposed ILFD is implemented in 90-nm CMOS and exhibits 25.4% locking range from 75.1 to 99 GHz at an input power of 0 dBm without any tuning mechanism. Monolithically integrated millimeter-wave wavelet transmitters are presented and analyzed in this paper. Two designs that include compact dielectric resonator antennas with either inductive or self-resonant input characteristics are compared. The efficient transmitter front-end core consists of a resonant tunneling diode oscillator that is quenchable by a transistor switch. A physical diode model is used to formulate small-signal matching criteria and study codesign conditions. Fabricated transmitters provide up to 11-dBm equivalent isotropically radiated power in down to 80-ps wideband wavelets at $V$ -band carrier frequencies. This paper investigates and evaluates the performance of a single-phase split-source inverter (SSI), where an alternative unidirectional dc–ac configuration is used. Such configuration is utilized in order to use two common-cathode diodes in a single device instead of using two separate diodes, resulting in minimum parasitic inductance in the commutation paths. In this paper, the analysis and modulation of the single-phase SSI using this alternative configuration is discussed, and the analysis of the low-frequency component in the dc side is introduced. Moreover, the features behind employing the triangular, the trailing-edge sawtooth, and the leading-edge sawtooth carriers with the single-phase SSI are discussed, and the differences among these carriers are highlighted. In order to highlight the performance of the proposed SSI, a comparative study is conducted with the two-stage architecture and the single-phase quasi-Z-source inverter (qZSI). The introduced analysis is enhanced with simulation results using MATLAB/PLECS models, where a 1-kVA single-phase SSI is designed and simulated. Finally, the designed 1-kVA single-phase SSI is implemented experimentally and tested at different operating points, i.e., at different voltage gains, and a maximum efficiency of $95.5\%$ is obtained. This paper presents a fully integrated gallium-nitride high-electron-mobility transistor (GaN-HEMT) Doherty power amplifier (DPA) based on a compact load network for small-cell applications. The gate width of the transistor is optimized to have a load impedance of 100~\boldsymbol\Omega with a shunt inductor that can compensate for the output capacitor using a parallel resonance. A quarter-wave transmission line (TL) with a characteristic impedance of 100~\boldsymbol\Omega is realized using a high-pass \pi -type lumped network for the carrier amplifier. The on-chip input network, including a power splitter, a quarter-wave TL, and matching networks for the carrier and peaking amplifiers, is designed using lumped components. The circuits are simplified by merging the multiple shunt components at a node into an inductor or a capacitor. As a result, the load network has only two shunt inductors. To verify the proposed circuits, a 2.6-GHz DPA integrated circuit (IC) was designed and implemented using a 0.4- \mu \textm GaN-HEMT process. The implemented IC, which was mounted on a quad-flat no-lead package, exhibited a high drain efficiency of 54.4% at an average output power of 37.6 dBm with an adjacent channel leakage power ratio of −27.0 dBc using a downlink long-term evolution signal having a channel bandwidth of 10 MHz and a peak-to-average power ratio of 6.5 dB. In this paper, a new architecture of a high-voltage Marx pulse generator based on isolated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) is proposed. It allows continuous control of the output voltage by acting on the IGBTs activation time: “on-time.” The final after-charging capacitors' voltage can be higher than the double of the input voltage. A simplified mathematical description of the system was developed in order to find a relation between the output voltage and the “On-time” (an open-loop control law). A SPICE simulation was implemented to check the expected performances and to verify the developed model. A three-stage generator was built according to the proposed structure using commercial IGBTs with a maximum output voltage of 3.6 kV. In this paper, a new zero voltage zero current transition (ZVZCT) boost DC–DC converter using a coupled inductor is proposed. This topology provides the main switch ZVZCT for the turn-on and zero voltage switching (ZVS) for the turn-off. Moreover, the auxiliary switch turns on at zero current switching (ZCS) and turns off at ZVS. The main diode turns on with ZVT and turns off with ZCS, and other diodes also operate under soft-switching conditions. Besides, due to the coupling effect, the proposed converter improves efficiency additionally since resonant energy in the resonance tank could be transferred to the output, and the circulating current can be limited as well. The soft-switching can be realized in almost all the load rang. In this design, there always exist energy releasing circuits to conduct magnetic flux leakage currents, such that the surge currents are eliminated and switch current stress can be accordingly reduced. All the devices resonate in a unique direction within less than half of a resonance period, so power losses with respect to the resonance can be decreased. This paper presents the analysis and experiments of a variable inductor (VI) based LED driver for dc grid lighting applications. The proposed driver requires only a series inductor and a transformer as major components to drive the LED lamp from a half-bridge inverter. By introducing a VI as the series inductor, the LED current can be controlled independently from any other parameter, which makes it possible to drive and regulate several LED branches from the same half-bridge output. Other advantages of the proposed converter include inherent open-circuit and short-circuit protections, zero-voltage switching for the bridge transistor and zero-current switching for the output rectifier diodes, simple dynamics, possibility of analog and pulse width modulation dimming, constant switching frequency operation, and high efficiency. The converter is thoroughly analyzed and modeled for both steady-state and dynamic operation. As another novelty of this paper, the dynamic response of the VI has been studied and taken into account to obtain the complete transfer function of the VI-controlled system. In addition, some housekeeping issues that usually arise when dealing with VI, e.g., how to drive the VI bias winding, are solved in this work. An extended-duty-ratio (EDR) boost converter is studied extensively in this paper for high voltage gain applications with a wide input (and/or output) voltage range. The EDR is a unique combination of an interleaved, multiphase boost converter and switched capacitor configuration that achieves high voltage gain with significantly lower switch voltage stress and switching losses compared to conventional high-gain solutions. Most of the switches in the multiphase EDR experience only a fixed fraction of the output voltage ($1/M, 2/M$ , etc., where $M$ is the number of phases). Through extensive analysis over a wide operating range, it is shown here that the EDR boost converter has inherent current sharing among the phases only in a limited range of duty ratio— $(M-1)/M \leq D \leq 1$. As the duty ratio reduces beyond this range as required in wide input voltage applications, inherent current sharing property is lost. In this paper, techniques to ensure current sharing under all operating zones without requiring current sensors are presented. Instead of having equal duty ratio for each phase, it is adjusted for each phase according to the operating region of the converter. Extensive analysis is presented to derive the required duty ratio changes for the different phases. In this paper, a new design of a heterogeneous integrated wireless sensor for displacement measurement is presented. The designed sensor consists of an inductor fabricated in printed circuit board technology, as an essential part, a spacer, and an electrode on a flexible polyimide foil as membrane. The proposed design of a sensor enables wireless displacement measurements using an external inductor as an antenna. Deflecting the polyimide membrane draws the electrode close to the coil of inductor (as bottom electrode) and causes an increase in the capacitance between them which changes the resonant frequency of the sensor. Displacement is wirelessly measured by phase-dip method determining the change of the resonant frequency of the antenna sensor system. The measurement of the sensor is performed and the characteristic of the sensor is obtained. Ambient RF energy harvesting is a potential energy source for low-power and battery-less wireless sensors, enabling a range of applications from monitoring to security as part of the Internet-of-Things (IoT) scenario. One of the main challenges of ambient RF energy harvesting is the requirement of operation over a multitude of frequency bands of low ambient power densities resulting in a very wide aggregate operating bandwidth. In this paper, design examples of novel ultra-wideband energy harvesters are demonstrated with octave and decade bandwidths in the UHF and low microwave spectrum. The RF-dc conversion efficiency is maximized by tailoring the dimensions of a nonuniform transmission line used to provide broadband impedance matching. The design challenges in terms of impedance matching based on the Bode-Fano theoretical limit, losses and miniaturization are highlighted. Two prototypes are presented and their performance is evaluated. The octave band rectifier showed a measured RF-dc conversion efficiency of more than 60% over a frequency band of 470 to 860 MHz at 10-dBm input power. The decade band rectifier fabricated on Kapton substrate using inkjet printing featured a higher than 33% efficiency over a frequency band from 250 MHz to 3 GHz at 10-dBm input power. This paper proposes a wide-range zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) active-clamped current-fed push–pull converter for fuel cell application. The presented converter achieves ZVS for all of the primary switches and ZCS for secondary diodes from rated load to 10% full load over the wide input voltage variation, improving the overall efficiency. The ZVS of switches is realized by the energy stored in the transformer leakage inductance aided by the secondary parallel inductor. An additional active clamping circuit suppresses the voltage spike as well as assists in realizing ZVS of switches. Low-voltage-rated switches with low on-state resistance can be used. Moreover, the voltage-doubler rectifier is adopted to release the reverse-recovery problem of rectifier diodes and reduce turns ratio of the high-frequency transformer. This paper presents the design and experimental results of the 36-kW pulsed-power supply for the xenon flash lamp. The continuous conduction mode series-parallel resonant converter is modified. This means that not only the few hundred kilohertz of high switching frequency is introduced to replace the resonant inductor with the leakage inductor of transformer but also the high output current is accomplished by using three-phase delta-connected transformers. In addition, the snubber capacitor of the inverter switches and the power factor correction module is both omitted in the compact structure. Although these main components have changed, the efficiency and power factor of the rated dummy load reach 96% and 0.96%, respectively. Within 36-kW average power, the proposed pulsed-power supply can generate as versatile combination of output pulse. For example, it can generate 20-ms pulse with 1-Hz repetition rate or generate 1-ms pulse with 20-Hz repetition rate. The used insulated gate bipolar transistor is protected from the turn-OFF peak voltage by the snubber circuit, and the effect of the snubber circuit is shown at the actual load condition. Conventional single-phase power-factor-correction (PFC) rectifiers with active power decoupling capability typically require more than three active switches in their circuits. By exploring the concept of power-buffer cell, a new single-stage PFC rectifier with two active switches, one inductor and one small power-buffering capacitor is reported in this paper. The proposed converter can achieve high-power factor, wide output voltage range, and power decoupling function without using electrolytic capacitor. Additionally, an automatic power decoupling control scheme that is simple and easy to implement is proposed in this paper. The operating principle, control method, and design considerations of the proposed rectifier are also provided. A 100-W prototype with ac input voltage of 110 Vrms and a regulated dc output voltage ranging from 30 to 100 V has been successfully designed and practically tested. The experimental results show that with only a 15 μF power-buffering film capacitor, the proposed converter can achieve an input power factor of over 0.98, peak efficiency of 93.9%, and output voltage ripple of less than 3%, at 100-W output power. In this paper, it is described how the circulating current flows between inverters that have isolated dc link such as cascaded H-bridge (CHB) topology when they are operating in parallel. In this case, zero sequence circulating current, which normally flows through shared dc link, cannot flow between inverters in parallel. However, circulating current is provoked by asynchronous switching instant of devices, difference of dc-link voltages of parallel inverters, and unbalanced impedance. The circulating current should be suppressed by a sharing inductor that is inserted between inverters. Generally, all of the inverters should synthesize the same output voltage reference for load current control to minimize the size of this sharing reactor. However, this conventional method cannot guarantee diminishing circulating current in the transient state and even in the steady state. In this paper, in order to reduce sharing reactance, after deriving circulating current model from general case of n-parallel operation, circulating current control method is devised based on the model. This proposed algorithm is applied to active front end five-level-CHB inverter system for medium voltage drive. In this paper, an inductor-loaded slow-wave substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) is presented and studied. The proposed structure features a number of unique propagation properties. First of all, the inductance value imposed along the transverse direction will affect the phase velocity and cutoff frequency of the waveguide simultaneously. Second, the inductance value in the longitudinal propagating direction will only affect the phase velocity but make no difference on the cutoff frequency. Based on the aforementioned characteristics, the size of structure could be controlled by separately tuning the loaded inductor along the transverse direction and longitudinal propagating direction. More importantly, it is released on the interrelationship between the phase velocity and cutoff frequency in the proposed guiding-wave structure. The feature will be beneficial to the design of leaky-wave antenna and matching circuits for SIW circuits. Finally, experimental results demonstrate that with the increasing of loaded inductance, a reduction of 35% in cutoff frequency is achieved compared with the conventional SIW counterpart. This paper proposes a family of soft-switching bidirectional converters. In many applications, the bidirectional converters operate over a wide range of duty cycle and load variations. In the proposed converters, in order to extend the zero-voltage switching operation range, two supplemental voltage sources utilizing passive components are implemented in the auxiliary circuit. By using this method, the soft-switching features are ensured for an extensive range of the converter duty cycles. This is achieved independent of the output power value or the converter operation mode, and so, soft switching is ensured within the entire converter operating region. In these converters, all semiconductors components are soft switched, and the auxiliary circuit does not contribute to the complexity of the control circuit. Also, no extra voltage stress exists on the main switches and the voltage stress on the auxiliary switches is lower than the main switches voltage stress. A novel circuit with the better performance for the inductive pulsed power supplies in the electromagnetic launch system is proposed in this paper, namely, the meat grinder with capacitive pulse forming unit (CPFU). Its working process is qualitatively analyzed stage by stage. Its practical feasibility is verified through a 7.5-kJ experiment. From the perspectives of circuit structure and working principle, this circuit can be regarded as the combination of a meat grinder and a CPFU. Compared with its preceding circuits, this circuit possesses following advantages: 1) the self-recovery of the capacitor precharged voltage can easily be achieved, which is conducive to continuous operations of the whole circuit and 2) the waveforms of the inductor currents contain no capacitive components, which can promote the energy storage density of the inductors. The opening switch is one of the critical technologies in the development of inductive pulsed-power supply. The power requirement is very high when the opening switch is desired to commutate a large current. This paper presents a zero-current opening circuit for inductive pulsed-power supply based on a high-temperature superconducting pulsed-power transformer. First, there are two types of current flowing through the opening switch, one comes from the secondary side of the pulse transformer, and the other one comes from superconducting energy storage inductance. The orientation of the two current is opposite. Then, when the current flowing through the opening switch closes to zero, the switch is opened and this restrains the over-voltage pulse of the opening switch. The simulation results indicate that this zero-current opening circuit is feasible and has potential applications for high-energy systems in the future electromagnetic launcher. An active method for double-frequency power ripple decoupling in single-phase inverters is presented in this paper, exhibiting the main advantage of not using additional power semiconductors besides the H-bridge. The proposed method requires only two capacitors placed between the midpoint and one end of each inverter leg. An original control solution of the inverter ensures the power ripple transfer toward the two decoupling capacitors without affecting the inverter output voltage. The simple design makes the proposed solution easy to adapt for single-phase inverters in H-bridge configuration. This paper proposes an interleaved buck converter (IBC) with continuous input current, extremely low output current ripple, low switching losses, and improved step-down conversion ratio. Unlike the conventional IBC, the proposed converter has a continuous input current, and its output current ripple is extremely low. The proposed converter has a lower voltage stress in comparison to the conventional IBC and can also provide a high step-down ratio, which makes it a proper choice for high-power applications where a nonisolated step-down converter with low output current ripple and continuous input current is required. Also, the proposed converter can provide current sharing between two interleaved modules without using additional current-sharing control method. All of these benefits are obtained without any additional stress on the circuit components. This paper presents the performance analysis and comparison of two types of bidirectional dc–dc converters—cascaded buck–boost capacitor in the middle and cascaded buck–boost inductor in the middle for use in plug-in electric and hybrid electric vehicles. The comparison of the two converters is based on device requirements, rating of switches and components, control strategy, and performance. Each of the converter topologies has some advantages over the other in certain aspects. Efficiency analysis has been carried out for specific scenarios in vehicle applications. This paper proposes a novel method for detecting parasitic dc components in ac grids. The method uses a parallel-connected sensing reactor and a low-cost digital signal processor. From the reactor current, the algorithm derives a sum of even harmonics, considering at the same time their phase shift with respect to the fundamental. The method is insensitive to the measurement noise and offset, and it does not require additional passive filters. Precision better than 100 \muV in 0.4-kV grids is maintained over a wide range of ac voltages. This paper details the detection method, provides the guidelines for the reactor design, and includes the key implementation details related to the signal acquisition—sampling and digital processing. This paper presents a novel tunable dual-band bandstop filter based on doubly tuned RF transformers. This design results in two distinct notch frequencies in a single resonator using silicon varactor diodes. The 2-pole tunable dual-band bandstop filters are implemented using printed circuit board (PCB) transformers and air-coil transformers. With PCB transformers, the lower frequency can be tuned at 513–845 MHz while the higher frequency can be tuned at 715–1151 MHz with a \notch level > 16~\dB. With air-coil transformers, a single-band 2-pole notch filter with wide rejection bandwidth is achieved. The design results in 604–982 MHz tuning with a 20-dB rejection bandwidth of 27–45 MHz. Also, by implementing a series varactor in a transformer, the separation between two coupled frequencies can be changed. An induction heating appliance designed to uniformly heat up metallic plates is studied in this paper. It consists of one planar inductor with two concentric coils attached to a mechanism, which allows moving the inductor under the plate while heating. This system is a possible solution for the growing concept of flexible induction cooking hobs, improving their performance in flexibility and in thermal distribution in the pans. With different combinations of motion and the selective activation of the inductor coils, any pan can be uniformly heated regardless its size or position on the hob. In this paper, we develop a thermal model to analyze the temperature distribution obtained in the pans for each diameter and strategy used. With ever more stringent \NOX emissions, it is necessary to examine removal of nitrogen oxide from diesel engine exhaust. This paper describes the study of \NOX reduction from 5.9-kW stationary diesel engine exhaust under nanosecond pulse energization. Two plasma reactors characterized by dielectric barrier discharge has been designed, built, and evaluated. One of the reactor designs include nine numbers of electrodes kept in parallel, and the exhaust was allowed to pass axially, whereas the second reactor consists of nine parallel electrodes and the exhaust was allowed to pass radially. The reactors were individually tested for the treatment of nitrogen oxides for gas flow rate of 2, 5, and 10 L/min. Both the reactors have been individually tested, and results show an appreciable removal of \NOX with equal discharge volume. From the results, it was found that both the reactors were an efficient \NOX removal. With consumption of only 36 J/L, the reactors had shown a considerable 45% \DeNOX efficiency. A high-voltage tapped-inductor buck converter utilizing a novel autonomous high-voltage valve is presented in this paper. Its application as auxiliary power supply for high-power cascaded-converter submodules is discussed, followed by a presentation of the most challenging problems in designing a low-power high-voltage step-down converter. The TI-buck converter topology is analyzed, which together with the novel autonomous high-voltage valve overcomes most of the problems. Analytical expressions describing the operation as well as circuit simulations are presented. Finally, an experimental evaluation of a 3-kV 70-W prototype converter utilizing the proposed autonomous high-voltage valve with series-connected super-junction MOSFETs is presented. Based on the features of large heating power per unit volume and small cooling surface area, the thermal management is one of the key technologies and plays a significant role for the pulsed inductor. A mathematical model that describes the heat transfer and thermal accumulation processes with the operating condition of periodic pulse loading for the pulsed inductor has been developed and validated in this paper, and the model results show a fine accuracy as compared with the test data. In addition, a computer code has been implemented to simulate the thermal accumulation and performance of natural cooling with different operating conditions (as the various of pulse voltage, pulse spacing, and pulse duration). The results show that the pulse voltage, pulse spacing, and pulse duration are the focus factors to the thermal accumulation for the pulsed inductor, and the effect of the natural cooling by surface area of the inductor is poor under the periodic pulse loading. A new wind turbine transformers protection method against high du/dt switching transients taking place during a wind turbine operation is described. High-frequency transients, characterized by a high rate of voltage rise (du/dt) and overvoltage at the wind turbine transformer high-voltage terminals may be a result of operations of the turbine switchgear typically comprising a vacuum circuit breaker. The protection concept described in this paper is a follow up of research activities on a transients suppressing method dedicated for distribution transformers. The principle of operation of the protective device proposed and parameters optimization procedures for windmill transformers are provided in this paper. The performance of the device was verified by means of Alternative Transients Program–Electromagnetic Transients Program simulations. Magnetic-valve controllable reactor (MCR) has been widely applied in many kinds of industries, such as power systems and ferrous metallurgy. As electrical equipment, MCR can adjust its reactance smoothly and continuously, which has advantages like low dissipation and maintenance costs, high reliability. In this paper, a precise 2-D field-circuit coupling model of MCR is established by the finite element analysis software-ANSYS, and then the analysis of the harmonic characteristics of this model is presented in detail. Compared with the conventional numeric method, the proposed method could obtain more practical and accurate results and also has the ability to analyze electromagnetic field. Meanwhile, an experimental platform of a 2200 VA/380 V MCR is built. This paper provides detailed harmonic characteristics analysis of simulation and experiment. In this paper, fully inkjet printed multilayer capacitors and inductors are fabricated and characterized using poly 4-vinylphenol (PVP) ink as the dielectric layer and silver nanoparticle ink as the conductor. Inkjet printed through vias, created with a novel dissolving method are used to make RF structures in a multilayer inkjet printing process. The vias have been realized in a 350-nm PVP film and exhibit resistance better than 0.1 $\Omega $ . Spiral inductors from 10 to 75 nH have been realized with maximum quality factors around five. The 10-nH inductor exhibits a self-resonant frequency slightly below 1 GHz. Metal–insulator–metal capacitors are realized with densities of 50 pF/mm ^{2} . These capacitors demonstrate values ranging from 16 to 50 pF. The 16-pF capacitor shows a self-resonant frequency over 1.5 GHz. The successful implementation of inductors and capacitors in an all inkjet printed multilayer process with vias is an important step toward fully inkjet-printed large area and flexible RF systems. Connecting legs in parallel in a voltage source inverter is a way to increase the output current and, thus, its rated power. The connection can be made using either coupled or uncoupled inductors, and achieving an even contribution to the output current from all the legs is a crucial issue. Circulating currents produce additional losses and stress to the power devices of the converter. Therefore, they should be controlled and minimized. An efficient technique to attain such balance when coupled inductors are used is presented in this paper. The proposed technique can also be used when the inductors are uncoupled, since it is a particular case where the coupling coefficients are zero. This technique does not include proportional–integral controllers and does not require any parameter tuning either. The exact control action needed to reach current balance is straightforwardly calculated and applied. Matching a pulse source to a plasma load is one of the main challenges to overcome to maximize the full potential of pulsed discharges for air purification applications. In this paper, we propose experiments that investigate the matching of a nanosecond pulse source to a corona plasma reactor that is aided by a high voltage on a tertiary electrode. The corona plasma reactor is a wire-cylinder reactor, as is commonly used in pulsed power plasmas. A tertiary electrode is situated on a dielectric layer against the cylinder of the reactor. On this tertiary electrode, we can apply a pulsed RF or dc voltage to provide an additional plasma and bias voltage in the corona plasma reactor. The pulse source that energizes the main corona plasma is the nanosecond pulse source of Kumamoto University, Japan. In this paper, we show the results of experiments with a dc voltage on the tertiary electrode. We varied the amplitude of the pulsed voltage as well as the dc voltage and investigated their effect on the corona plasma with energy and ozone measurements. The results show that the matching to the reactor increases with increasing dc voltages. However, the matching effect decreases with higher repetition rates. This paper proposes a new circuit configuration and a control scheme for a single-phase current-source inverter with a power decoupling circuit which is called as the active buffer. The proposed inverter achieves a low-dc-input voltage ripple and also provides a sinusoidal current that can achieve unity power factor, without large passive components in the dc bus such as smoothing inductors and electrolytic capacitors. These components are conventionally required in order to decouple the power pulsation caused by the single-phase power source. In this paper, the fundamental operations of the proposed inverter are demonstrated experimentally. From the experimental results, the input voltage ripple is 8.87%, and the output current total harmonic distortion is 4.24%. In addition, an output power factor of 99% and a maximum efficiency of 94.9% are obtained. Finally, it is confirmed that the maximum power densities of the conventional circuit and the proposed circuit are 2.75 kW/L at the switching frequency of 70 kHz and 4.86 kW/L at the switching frequency of 80 kHz, respectively. Soft-switching ac-link universal power converters, also called partial resonant converters and ac-link buck–boost converters, have received noticeable attention during the last few years. In these converters, each of the inputs and outputs can be dc, single-phase ac, or multiphase ac; therefore, they can be used for dc–dc, dc–ac, ac–dc, or ac–ac power conversion systems. The soft-switching ac-link universal power converters are compact, reliable, and expected to offer longer lifetime compared with the other types of converters. However, they require more switches, which make the control process more involved. The sparse ac-link buck–boost converters were proposed to partially solve this problem. The sparse configuration reduces the number of switches from 24 to 20 in a three-phase ac–ac configuration. This paper proposes a modified configuration, which further reduces the number of switches without changing the principles of operation. This converter, which is named ultrasparse ac-link buck–boost converter, reduces the number of switches from 24 to 16, in a three-phase ac-to-ac case, and from 20 to 10, in a dc-to-three-phase-ac configuration. The proposed converter is applicable to systems with unidirectional flow of power, such as PV and wind power generation systems. This converter is expected to offer higher reliability compared with the original converter and higher reliability and efficiency compared with the sparse configuration. Another important feature of this configuration is that it can be fabricated by insulated-gate bipolar transistor modules, which are more compact and more cost effective compared with discrete devices. This paper presents the principles of the operation of this configuration and compares the efficiency, the failure rate, and the current rating of the switches in the ultrasparse, sparse, and original configurations. In this paper, a passive ripple canceling circuit (PRCC) is proposed to eliminate the output power reduction effect of photovoltaic (PV) systems caused by the current ripple of the PV converters. Special features of the proposed PRCC include having low-cost simple modular structure and being independent of the duty ratio control of the main power circuit. Hence, it can be easily integrated to the main power circuit to achieve zero input current ripple, yielding less filter size, loss, and fast response. Meanwhile, the linear line maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control is also integrated with the proposed module integrated converter (MIC) to achieve instantaneous tracking response. Finally, a 90-W laboratory prototype is constructed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed principle. It is seen that the resulting peak-to-peak input current ripple is reduced to about 2% of the original dc converter input ripple. In other words, the input current ripple is almost zero. In this paper, the soft-switching ac-link ac–ac buck–boost converter will be studied in more detail. This single-stage converter, which is, in essence, an extension of the dc–dc buck–boost converter, can be an excellent alternative to dc-link converters. Being a buck–boost converter, this converter is capable of both stepping-up and stepping-down the voltage. The link current and voltage are both alternating, and their frequency can be as high as permitted by the switches and the sampling time of the microcontroller. This eliminates the need for dc inductors or dc electrolytic capacitors, and the main energy storage element is an ac inductor $(L)$. Moreover, in this converter, galvanic isolation can be provided by adding a single-phase high-frequency transformer to the link. Therefore, the proposed converter is expected to be more compact compared to the conventional dc-link converter. The other advantage of this converter is the soft switching of the switches, which is feasible by adding a small capacitor $(C)$ to the link. In this paper, the design and analysis of this converter will be studied in detail. In order to accurately analyze this converter, the effect of the $LC$ link resonance on the performance of the converter will be studied. This analysis helps in evaluating the performance of the converter at low power levels when the resonating time of the $LC$ link is not negligible. Using this analysis, the link peak current and the link frequency may be calculated at any point of operation. The accuracy of this method is verified through simulations and experiments. Detailed comparison of the proposed converter with the dc-link converter will be also presented in this paper. It will be shown that, despite having more switches, the current rating of the switches is lower in this converter. Moreover, the efficiencies of the two converters will be compared. Finally, the performance of the soft-switching ac-link ac–ac buck–boost converter is experimentally evaluated in this paper. This paper examines the process challenges in developing high aspect-ratio copper structures for improving microinductor performance. With increased miniaturization, increasing windings losses become a major challenge limiting the microinductor efficiency. It was also identified that within constraint footprints coil thickness to spacing ratio increase can reduce dc resistance significantly. In this paper, we present a reliable process for developing high aspect ratio ( $\sim 5.8$ ) resist moulds for copper electrodeposition. This resist provided coil spacings 10 $\mu $ m for 58 $\mu $ m resist thickness; this in turn reduces the dc resistance of a typical microinductor by more than 17% when compared with a similar device reported previously. This paper presents a novel single-phase ac–ac converter with power factor correction and output current control for circuit-breaker testing according to the IEC 60898 standard. The important advantages of the proposed circuit are low component count and fast responses for the standard requirement, especially a current step at the beginning of the test. The proposed single-phase ac–ac converter can operate in either buck or boost mode to accommodate the need for a wide range of output current while satisfying the ramping and step current requirements in the standard. The control circuits consist of two parts, dc voltage control of dc-link capacitors and ac output current controls operating simultaneously. The quasi- $Z$ source (qZS) cascaded multilevel inverter (CMI) (qZS-CMI) presents attractive advantages in application to photovoltaic (PV) power system. Each PV panel connects to an H-bridge qZS inverter (qZSI) to form a power generation module. The distributed maximum power point tracking and all modules' dc-link peak voltage balance can be achieved. However, it is the same with the conventional CMI that the second-harmonic ( $2\omega$) voltage and current ripples exist in each qZSI module. It is crucial for a qZS-CMI to design the reasonable qZS network parameters to limit the ripples within a desired range. This paper proposes an analytic model to accurately calculate the $2\omega$ voltage and current ripples of each qZSI module. A qZS impedance design method based on the built model is proposed to limit the $2\omega$ ripples of dc-link voltage and inductor current. Simulated and experimental results through using the designed 1.5-kW prototype validate the proposed analytic model and the design method. Furthermore, this paper analyzes all of the operating states for a qZSI module and calculates the power loss. This paper proposes a transformerless dc–dc converter, which features a large voltage ratio, for medium-voltage dc (MVDC) applications. The proposed converter combines a boost converter with a series-parallel resonant converter which enables soft switching of the power switches and diodes. Further, the power switches and diodes of the proposed converter experience lower voltage stresses compared to the other topologies. The proposed converter is modular and, therefore, permits series and/or parallel connection of multiple units for the desired voltage and/or power ratings. In this paper, a novel transformerless interleaved high step-down conversion ratio dc–dc converter with low switch voltage stress is proposed. In the proposed converter, two input capacitors are series-charged by the input voltage and parallel-discharged by a new two-phase interleaved buck converter for providing a much higher step-down conversion ratio without adopting an extreme short duty cycle. Based on the capacitive voltage division, the main objectives of the new voltage-divider circuit in the converter are for both storing energy in the blocking capacitors for increasing the step-down conversion ratio and reducing voltage stresses of active switches. As a result, the proposed converter topology possesses the low switch voltage stress characteristic. This will allow one to choose lower voltage rating MOSFETs to reduce both switching and conduction losses, and the overall efficiency is consequently improved. Moreover, due to the charge balance of the blocking capacitor, the converter features automatic uniform current sharing characteristic of the interleaved phases without adding extra circuitry or complex control methods. The operation principles and relevant analysis of the proposed converter are presented in this paper. A significant reduction of electromagnetic interference (EMI) for a fine-motion control rod drive (FMCRD) in a nuclear reactor is presented in this paper. A reactor design with the FMCRD can achieve high performance. However, the FMCRD produces electromagnetic noise, which affects the startup-range neutron monitoring (SRNM) system. Moreover, because the FMCRD and the SRNM system are arranged near each other under a reactor vessel, the SRNM unit is influenced by the FMCRD electromagnetic noise, leading to uncertain monitoring results and system alarms. Strong EMI could even result in a system trip. To alleviate the EMI, a grounded metal sheet is wrapped around the FMCRD cable, partially shielding it from radiation. To further overcome the EMI, a proposed three-dimensional (3-D) low-pass filter (LPF) structure is combined with the SRNM wire for noise reduction. To implement the 3-D LPF structure, an industrial passive electronic device (zippered cable shielding) is adopted in this paper. This approach not only achieves a remarkable noise amplitude reduction but also minimizes the radiated emissions from the FMCRD cables, yielding an improved and stabilized nuclear reactor. In addition, a real-time analytical method is utilized to capture events while the FMCRDs are active, and the captured waveforms are transferred to the frequency domain by using a fast Fourier transform to analyze the experiment data, lending more insight into the actual situation. This paper introduces a novel isolated hybrid resonant converter with smooth transition between multiple operating modes. With the simple addition of a bidirectional ac switch, the highly efficient series resonant converter operating in the discontinuous conduction mode is combined with a phase-shifted full-bridge buck converter and a pulsewidth-modulated boost converter in order to provide high power conversion efficiency over a wide input-voltage operating range utilizing a simple topology and simple control techniques. First, the topology is introduced, and the converter's operating modes are discussed. Next, closed-loop input-voltage controllers are designed for the different operating modes, and a smooth transition technique is introduced using a two-carrier modulation scheme. Experimental results are provided to verify the proposed system using a 300-W prototype that achieved a 97.5% California Energy Commission weighted efficiency with a 30-V input including all auxiliary and control losses.
