This article focuses on research on consumer energy. According to the author, the social significance of consumer energy research can be established by observing the importance of consumer energy conservation in the quest for long-run energy security and by recognizing the role of consumer research in the identification of effective conservation initiatives. Consumer energy research can be segmented into two general categories: research that focuses primarily on understanding consumers and research that focuses primarily on the impact of energy-conservation initiatives.
