Summary. This paper proposes a new high-gain quasi-Z-source network (qZSN) with a switched-coupled-inductor (SCL). By employing a two-winding SCL within the impedance network, the proposed topology offers high voltage gains with relatively low shoot-through current and low total voltage stress on switching devices. Other prominent features of the proposed topology can be mentioned as low total voltage stress on the switching devices, continuous dc-input current, and common ground among the input dc-voltage source and the load-side. In addition, the proposed qZSN has a low peak magnetizing current which allows using a smaller size magnetic core for the coupled-inductor. Reduced passive components count along with lower switch current stress lead to lower power losses and converter costs. The superiority of the proposed impedance network is confirmed by comparing its main properties with other successful existing ZS-based topologies. In this article, three impedance networks based on three-winding switched-coupled-inductors (SCLs) are proposed that are improved compared to the successfully modified series and tapped SCL quasi-Z-source networks (mS/TSCL-qZSN). The proposed networks have three coupled windings in their topologies with their two turn ratios to be chosen arbitrarily, instead of only one turn ratio compared to the mS/TSCL-qZSNs. Consequently, a high degree of design flexibility is achieved that is accompanied by low peaks of both magnetizing and input currents, which let smaller magnetic elements including both the total required coupled inductances and the input inductance. Also, with the new configuration of the proposed circuits, the components' stresses, such as the total capacitors' voltages and the total switching device power ratings, are remarkably reduced compared to the origins. This paper proposes a class of impedance networks, called quasi‐Δ‐source, as an improvement to the successful Δ‐source one. Compared to their origin, the three proposed networks offer higher voltage gains with a better magnetic circuit utilization and a smooth continuous input current. A lower magnetizing and total inductance required for the Δ‐shaped coupled inductors of the proposed networks allows smaller and cheaper magnetic cores utilization. Also, a lower total power loss of the magnetically coupled elements is another interesting advantage of the proposed networks. Moreover, the total required capacitance of the proposed networks is the same and even slightly lower than that of the conventional Δ‐source one. All these improve the performance of the proposed class of networks with the smaller size of components compared to their conventional competitor. The principles of operation are developed and the theoretical analysis is performed. Also, by using the circuit averaging technique, the small‐signal models of the Δ‐source and the proposed networks are derived as well as their control‐to‐output transfer function is achieved. A simple and efficient single-phase direct ac-to-ac converter with the possibility to be utilized as a voltage buck or buck–boost converter is proposed in this article. The proposed converter offers higher efficiency than the competitors with a lower number, of semiconductors. The proposed switching strategy minimizes the high-frequency operation and simultaneous conduction of semiconductors during each mode of operation. Besides a higher efficiency, the other major advantages of the proposed converter are eliminating the risk of input source shoot-through, a lower number, and total rating of semiconductors, defined by switching device power parameter, a lower number and smaller size of reactive components, a better input current quality, and lower filtering requirements. Two new power factor correction (PFC) rectifiers with the voltage buck-boost capability are proposed in this article, called as Ferdowsi rectifiers (FRs). The proposed rectifiers employ a reduced number of semiconductors compared to the competitors. Also, since the reverse recovery problem of antiparallel diodes of transistor switches is avoided, then MOSFETs can be readily utilized, which lets much higher switching frequencies and lower size of passive components. In addition, two parallel capacitors provide a path for the input current during the discharge mode of the buck-boost inductors to improve the current quality. The discontinuous conduction mode operation of the proposed rectifiers guarantees a high quality input current with a low total harmonic distortion. All aforementioned features offer a highly efficient operation and at the same time a purely sinusoidal current drawn from the ac source compared to the previous well-developed competitors. This article proposes two magnetic integrated filters, called ${\mathsf \Gamma}$ -source and Flipped- ${\mathsf \Gamma}$ -source with the advantage of better magnetic circuit utilization. Therefore, the number of required magnetic cores and the total size of inductive elements are reduced compared to the other high-order filters, such as the LCL and the LLCL. Also, the total windings copper weight as well as the windings currents and losses are lower. It will be shown that the required air gap for the magnetic core is very short, so the adverse effects of the electro-magnetic interference and the fringing flux are also prevented. Thus, the proposed filters require a small and simple magnetic element, which also works at a lower temperature. Moreover, the proposed filters offer a robust stability and a high filtering performance against a wide range of parameter mismatches. This paper introduces a novel single-phase buck–boost noninverting variable-frequency ac–ac converter that offers higher efficiency compared to the competitors. This converter utilizes a lower number of semiconductors. A simple and flexible switching strategy is also proposed, which generates the desired output waveform avoiding unnecessary high-frequency switching operation of semiconductor devices. A high reliable operation due to the elimination of the input source shoot-through risk, an inherent commutation capability that mitigates the voltage spikes across the semiconductors, a lower semiconductors rating requirement, an improved input current waveform quality, and a smaller required input filter inductor are the main advantages of the proposed converter. Thus, the proposed converter can be successfully applied to many industrial applications such as medium-frequency transformer isolation for traction and wind turbine converters, ac–dc high-voltage conversion based on Cockcroft–Walton circuit and induction heating systems. This paper proposes two coupled-inductors-based Z-source networks, called the modified series and tapped switched-coupled-inductors quasi-Z-source networks (mSSCL-qZSN and mTSCL-qZSN, respectively). These networks offer high voltage gains with less-than-unity winding turn ratios $(n < {\text{1)}}$ , resulting in a reduced inductive element size. Other advantages include a less number of active components and their lower ratings and a higher efficiency. In addition, a lower magnetic core size is required for the proposed ZSNs due to the lower peak magnetizing current. A new class of impedance networks is proposed in this paper. The proposed coupled-inductors-based impedance cells, called the series and the tapped switched-coupled-inductors, are employed within the (quasi) switched boost networks. The achieved impedance networks based on the proposed cells offer very high conversion gains with less-than-unity turn ratios (n < 1), which simplifies the realization of the magnetic element and at the same time reduces the number and size of passive components. The high boosting capability is achieved with small shoot-through durations that bring some additional advantages, such as low ratings of switching devices. The circuit analysis and operation concepts as well as a design procedure for the components of the proposed impedance networks are presented. In this paper, a novel direct ac–ac converter based on the coupled inductor Z-source networks is proposed that offers a wide range of buck–boost operation. A total of two Z-source networks, called the coupled switched inductor and the modified switched coupled inductor, are employed that enable the ac–ac converter to deliver a wide voltage range. The proposed converter with both networks provides free-wheeling current paths for the inductors currents during the state transitions, which results in solving the commutation problems and the need for snubber circuits. A simple switching strategy is then proposed that helps to share a common magnetic core between the coupled inductors. For any particular voltage gain, the proposed structures require a smaller duty cycle compared to the conventional ones; therefore, a smaller inductance is required.
