Abstract Background Goji (Lycium barbarum) is an important economic crop that is widely cultivated in Northwest China and is known as superfood. Goji plants are often affected by powdery mildew (Arthrocladiella mougeotii) in the field, resulting in considerable reduction in production and serious economic losses. The long-term reliance on agricultural chemicals to control powdery mildew not only leads to environmental pollution, but also causes excessive residues to accumulate in fruits, endangering human health. The plant epicuticular wax is the first physical barrier between land plants and the atmospheric environment, and plays an important role in the interactions of plants with pathogenic microorganisms. However, the relationship between epicuticular wax and powdery mildew resistance in goji plants is not well understood. Results The leaf epicuticular wax crystals of ‘Ningqi I’ goji were dense and small, and the wax load was 121.74 μg/cm2, which was 3.36 times greater than that of ‘Huangguo’ goji. The ratio of alcohol components in ‘Ningqi I’ goji was 121.18% greater than that in ‘Huangguo’ goji. The incidence rate and disease index of ‘Ningqi I’ goji inoculated with powdery mildew were significantly lower than those inoculated ‘Huangguo’ goji, showing high resistance and moderate susceptibility, respectively. After mechanical wax removal, the disease indices of the two goji varieties increased significantly, indicating extreme susceptibility. Seventeen differential expression genes showing significantly greater expression in ‘Ningqi’ goji leaves than in ‘Huangguo’ goji leaves were enriched in genes involved in fatty acid elongation and the wax biosynthesis pathway. The FAR activity and relative expression levels of LbaFAR and LbaWSD1 in ‘Ningqi I’ goji were significantly greater than those in ‘Huangguo’ goji. The relative expression levels of these genes significantly increased in the overexpression tobacco lines FAR-OE and WSD1-OE, and the wax load were augmented by 46.10% and 22.23%, respectively. Conclusions The increased expression of the LbaFAR and LbaWSD1 genes in ‘Ningqi I’ leaves led to increased FAR and WSD1 activity, increasing the wax load and alcohol content of the epicuticular of leaves, and improving leaf glossiness, resulting in strengthened resistance to powdery mildew. Therefore, the production of leaf epicuticular wax mediated by the LbaFAR and LbaWSD1 genes could be the main reason for the difference in powdery mildew resistance between the two goji varieties, which can provide a theoretical basis for the selection of resistant varieties to control goji powdery mildew. Abstract Multiferroic materials offer a promising avenue for manipulating digital information by leveraging the cross-coupling between ferroelectric and ferromagnetic orders. Despite the ferroelectricity has been uncovered by ion displacement or interlayer-sliding, one-unit-cell of multiferroic materials design and wafer-scale synthesis have yet to be realized. Here we develope an interface modulated strategy to grow 1-inch one-unit-cell of non-layered chromium sulfide with unidirectional orientation on industry-compatible c-plane sapphire. The interfacial interaction between chromium sulfide and substrate induces the intralayer-sliding of self-intercalated chromium atoms and breaks the space reversal symmetry. As a result, robust room-temperature ferroelectricity (retaining more than one month) emerges in one-unit-cell of chromium sulfide with ultrahigh remanent polarization. Besides, long-range ferromagnetic order is discovered with the Curie temperature approaching 200 K, almost two times higher than that of bulk counterpart. In parallel, the magnetoelectric coupling is certified and which makes 1-inch one-unit-cell of chromium sulfide the largest and thinnest multiferroics.

Aim: To investigate the effect of Codonopsis pilosula polysaccharide (CPP) on precancerous lesions of gastric cancer (PLGC) and its mechanism. Methods: The CPP with more than 90 % sugar content was prepared by water extraction and alcohol precipitation combined with column chromatography. MTT assay was used to analyze the effect of CPP on the survival rate of human normal gastric epithelial cells (GES-1) and the proliferation of human gastric adenocarcinoma cells (AGS). The PLGC animal model was induced by chemical combined with irregular diet. The alleviate effect and related mechanism of CPP at high and low doses (110 mg/kg and 440 mg/kg) on PLGC were further analyzed. Results: CPP can significantly promote the proliferation of hypoxia-induced GES-1 cells and after 48 h of CPP treatment, the expressions of Wnt-1, β-catenin and TCF-4 in GES-1 cells were significantly increased (P < 0.05). CPP can significantly inhibited the growth of AGS cells and after 48 h of CPP treatment, the expression of Wnt-1, β-catenin and TCF-4 in AGS cells was significantly decreased (P < 0.05). In the PLGC animal model, CPP could alleviate the damage degree of PLGC, inhibit the weight loss of rats, and significantly improve the levels of serum markers. Further, Western blot results showed that in the gastric tissue of rats, CPP could significantly increase the expression of Wnt-1β-catenin and TCF-4, and significantly decreased the ratio of Bcl-2/Bax, and significantly increased the expression level of caspase-3. The results of serum metabolomics analysis of rats showed that CPP may improve PLGC by affecting glycine metabolism, serine metabolism, threonine metabolism and other pathways. Conclusions: This study confirms that CPP can alleviate PLGC. At the cellular level, CPP can play a protective role in gastric mucosa by activating Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway under inflammatory or oxidative stress conditions, and can promote the apoptosis of abnormal cells of gastric glands by inhibiting Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. At the animal level, CPP can not only inhibit PLGC by inhibiting Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway, but also alleviate PLGC by promoting abnormal apoptosis in gastric tissue.

Food security is a crucial issue that has caused extensive concern, and the use of food flavors has become prevalent over time. we used the molecular biological techniques, preservative susceptibility testing, viable but non-culturable (VBNC) state induction testing, and a transcriptome analysis to examine the bacterial contamination of favored syrup and identify the causes and develop effective control measures. The results showed that Asaia lannensis WLS1-1 is a microorganism that can spoil food and is a member of the acetic acid bacteria families. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) tests showed that WLS1-1 was susceptible to potassium sorbate (PS), sodium benzoate (SB), and sodium sulffte (SS) at pH 4.0. It revealed a progressive increase in resistance to these preservatives at increasing pH values. WLS1-1 was resistant to PS, SB and SS with an MIC of 4.0, 2.0 and 0.5 g/L at pH 5.0, respectively. The MIC values exceed the maximum permissible concentrations that can be added. The induction test of the VBNC state demonstrated that WLS1-1 lost its ability to grow after 321 days of PS induction, 229 days of SB induction and 52 days of SS induction combined with low temperature at 4°C. Additionally, laser confocal microscopy and a propidium monoazide-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PMA-qPCR) assay showed that WLS1-1 was still alive after VBNC formation. There were 7.192 ± 0.081 (PS), 5.416 ± 0.149 (SB) and 2.837 ± 0.134 (SS) log10(CFU/mL) of viable bacteria. An analysis of the transcriptome data suggests that Asaia lannensis can enter the VBNC state by regulating oxidative stress and decreasing protein synthesis and metabolic activity in response to low temperature and preservatives. The relative resistance of Asaia lannensis to preservatives and the induction of the VBNC state by preservatives are the primary factors that contribute to the contamination of favored syrup by this bacterium. To our knowledge, this study represents the first evidence of the ability of Asaia lannensis to enter the VBNC state and provides a theoretical foundation for the control of organisms with similar types of activity.

Abstract Our previous study data suggested that the synapse-associated protein 97 (SAP97) rs3915512 polymorphism is significantly related to clinical performance in schizophrenia. The cerebellum exhibits abundant expression of SAP97, which is involved with negative symptoms, cognition and emotion in schizophrenia. As functional dysconnectivity with the cortical-subcortical-cerebellar circuitry has been widely shown in patients with schizophrenia, cortical-subcortical-cerebellar dysconnectivity can therefore be considered a possible intermediate phenotype that connects risk genes with schizophrenia. In this study, resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) was applied to evaluate whether the SAP97 rs3915512 polymorphism changes cortical/subcortical-cerebellar resting-state functional connectivity (RSFC) in 104 Han Chinese subjects (52 first-episode schizophrenia (FES) patients and 52 matched healthy controls (HCs)). To examine RSFC between cortical/subcortical regions and the cerebellum, a ROI (region of interest)-wise functional connectivity analysis was conducted. The association between abnormal cortical/subcortical-cerebellar connectivity and clinical manifestation was further assessed in FES patients with different genotypes. The interactive effect of disease and genotype on RSFC was found between the frontal gyrus (rectus) and cerebellum. A positive correlation was suggested between RSFC in the cerebellum and the hostility scores in FES patients with the A allele, and no correlation was found in FES patients with the TT genotype. The current findings identified that SAP97 may be involved in the process of mental symptoms in FES patients via cerebellar connectivity depending on the rs3915512 polymorphism genotype.

The principal pathogen responsible for chronic urinary tract infections, immunocompromised hosts, and cystic fibrosis patients is Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which is difficult to eradicate. Due to the extensive use of antibiotics, multidrug-resistant P. aeruginosa has evolved, complicating clinical therapy. Therefore, a rapid and efficient approach for detecting P. aeruginosa strains and their resistance genes is necessary for early clinical diagnosis and appropriate treatment. This study combines recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) and clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats-association protein 13a (CRISPR-Cas13a) to establish a one-tube and two-step reaction systems for detecting the mexX gene in P. aeruginosa. The test times for one-tube and two-step RPA-Cas13a methods were 5 and 40 min (including a 30 min RPA amplification reaction), respectively. Both methods outperform Quantitative Real-time Polymerase Chain Reactions (qRT-PCR) and traditional PCR. The limit of detection (LoD) of P. aeruginosa genome in one-tube and two-step RPA-Cas13a is 10 aM and 1 aM, respectively. Meanwhile, the designed primers have a high specificity for P. aeruginosa mexX gene. These two methods were also verified with actual samples isolated from industrial settings and demonstrated great accuracy. Furthermore, the results of the two-step RPA-Cas13a assay could also be visualized using a commercial lateral flow dipstick with a LoD of 10 fM, which is a useful adjunt to the gold-standard qRT-PCR assay in field detection. Taken together, the procedure developed in this study using RPA and CRISPR-Cas13a provides a simple and fast way for detecting resistance genes.

Functional nano-coatings have been a research hotspot in recent years. The nano-size composition units provide good volume effect and surface effect for functional nano-coatings, and greatly optimize the mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance and wear resistance of the coatings. The preparation technology and properties of functional nano-coatings determine the application range of nano-coatings. However, most reviews focus on certain properties, preparation methods or applications of functional nano-coatings, and lack of reviews on the integrity of functional nano-coatings. Firstly, this work introduced the concept and classification of functional nano-coatings briefly. Secondly, the preparation techniques of functional nano-coatings were described in detail, including traditional chemical vapor deposition, physical vapor deposition and sol-gel method, the latest plasma spraying technology and other preparation techniques. Moreover, the principles, advantages and disadvantages of various nano-coatings preparation technologies and the application of nano-coatings in materials were analyzed and summarized. Finally, the latest and popular applications of functional nano-coatings were reviewed in detail, and the application prospect and potential of functional nano-coatings were prospected.

OBJECTIVES/GOALS: Harmful algal blooms (HABs) are increasing in both frequency and intensity due to climate change. HABs release the toxin microcystin-LR (MC-LR) which enters cells via organic anion-transporting polypeptides (OATPs). In this study, we sought to assess the ability of MC-LR to accumulate in trophoblasts, potentially disrupting placental functions. METHODS/STUDY POPULATION: Intracellular accumulation of MC-LR at exposure concentrations of 0.1, 1, and 10 µM over 6 hrs was evaluated in immortalized JAR placental cytotrophoblasts. Western blotting was used to evaluate protein-bound MC-LR accumulation in JAR cells. The function of OATP transporters in JAR cells was determined by pre-incubating cells with 10µM cyclosporin A, a general OATP inhibitor for 1 hr, and then incubated with 1µM OATP substrate fluorescein for up to 40 min. Fluorescence of fluorescein was measured at Ex/Em: 494nm/515nm by spectrophotometry. RESULTS/ANTICIPATED RESULTS: A concentration-dependent increase of MC-LR bound proteins in JAR cells was observed at 6 hrs with the greatest intracellular accumulation of MC-LR at 10µM. In the transporter experiments, a significant decrease of fluorescein uptake by up to 45% into JAR cells was observed following cyclosporin A inhibition of OATPs. These findings are consistent with the functional expression of OATP transporters in JAR placenta cells. Ongoing studies are evaluating whether the cyclosporin A-mediated inhibition of OATPs also inhibits the uptake of MC-LR. DISCUSSION/SIGNIFICANCE: Although MC-LR is well-known for its hepatotoxic and neurotoxic effects, there is growing interest in examining its potential adverse impacts on female reproductive health, particularly during pregnancy. Active uptake of MC-LR into the placenta could interfere with placental and fetal development.

The purpose of the work is to research the planar source of 14C with large size by the absorbability of the anodizing membrane. The adsorption of 14C on the anodizing membrane with thickness of 4 to 12 μm were investigated. The adsorption of 14C and the uniformity of the planar source were investigated on the volume of 14C solution. The specific activity of 14C was investigated on adsorption of 14C. The fastness, the uniformity and the surface emission rate of the planar source of 14C were measured. The result shows that the uniformity of the planar source (100 mm×150 mm) of14C is precede 10%. The plateau length is 400 V, the slope of the plateau is 0.3% per 100 V. The threshold correction is 0.2%. The uncertainty of 14C source measurement is 2% (k=2). The technical parameters of the developed plane source 14C can meet the requirements of relevant standards.

To introduce 3D printing technology into the field of radiation source preparation and make up for the lack of precision special-shaped radiation source preparation technology at home and abroad. The photosensitive resin for 133Cs 3D printing was prepared by studying the phase transfer method and detected by ICP-MS to explore the preparation conditions. Then, the photosensitive resin material for 137Cs 3D printing was prepared and detected by lanthanum bromide detector. The results show that the uneven distribution of cesium in three photosensitive resins for 133Cs 3D printing and 137Cs 3D printing prepared by phase transfer method was less than 5%. As a simple and mild method, phase transfer method can be used to prepare photosensitive resin for 3D printing containing cesium, and has certain universality.

BackgroundPreoperative anxiety often prevails in children at higher levels than adults, which is a common impediment for surgeons and anesthesiologists. It is of great necessity to explore an appropriate medication to improve this situation. Remimazolam, a type of benzodiazepine drug, has been indicated for the induction and maintenance of procedural sedation in adults since 2020. To date, rare studies were reported to investigate the effect of remimazolam on children. In this study, we investigated the safety and efficacy of intranasal drops of remimazolam and tried to determine the 95% effective dose (ED95) of remimazolam in single intranasal administration in attenuating preoperative anxiety in children.MethodsIn this study, 114 children were enrolled who underwent laparoscopic high-level inguinal hernia ligation between January 2021 and December 2022 and were divided into an early childhood children group and a pre-school children group. The biased coin design (BCD) was used to determine the target doses. A positive response was defined as the effective relief of preoperative anxiety (modified Yale Preoperative Anxiety Scale, mYPAS < 30). The initial nasal dose of remimazolam was 0.5 mg·kg−1 in the two groups. An increment or decrement of 0.1 mg·kg−1 was applied depending on the sedative responses. Isotonic regression and bootstrapping methods were used to calculate the ED95 and 95% confidence intervals (CIs), respectively.ResultsA total of 80 children completed the study, including 40 in the early childhood group and 40 in the pre-school children group. As statistical analysis indicated, the ED95 of a single intranasal infusion of remimazolam for the relief of preoperative anxiety is 1.57 mg·kg−1 (95% CI: 1.45–1.59 mg·kg−1) in early childhood children and 1.09 mg·kg−1 (95% CI: 0.99–1.11 mg·kg−1) in pre-school children, and the CIs did not overlap each other.ConclusionRemimazolam is an effective medication to relieve preoperative anxiety in children. Moreover, the ED95 of single nasal administration of remimazolam for effective relief of preoperative anxiety was 1.57 and 1.09 mg·kg−1 in early childhood children and pre-school children, respectively.

To study the new type of dosimeter with a dose up to the ultra-high dose range of MGy, the electron spin resonance (ESR) method is used to measure the signal intensity of the sample irradiated by gamma rays or electron beams. Preliminary studies have been carried out through the selection of sensitive materials, linearity after irradiation, and stability. The results showed that the quartz can be used as a raw material for ultra-high dosimeters. After 15 min 300 ℃ proper heat treatment, the signal intensity of the irradiated quartz sample can maintain good stability within one year with a change of less than 3%. The radiation dose and the E′ signal intensity of quartz are proportional to the dose range of 10-103 kGy. The fitting coefficient is above 0.99. Compared with the high-purity quartz sample without heat treatment, the stability and R2 of fitting function of quartz sample are significantly improved. Therefore, the quartz dosimeter is suitable as a working dosimeter in the ultra-high dose range.

Monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) are widely used in virus research and disease diagnosis. The nucleoprotein (NP) of influenza A virus (IAV) plays important roles in multiple stages of the virus life cycle. Therefore, generating conserved mAbs against NP and characterizing their properties will provide useful tools for IAV research. In this study, two mAbs against the NP protein, 10E9 and 3F3, were generated with recombinant truncated NP proteins (NP-1 and NP-2) as immunogens. The heavy-chain subclass of both 10E9 and 3F3 was determined to be IgG2α, and the light-chain type was κ. Truncation and site-specific mutation analyses showed that the epitopes of mAbs 10E9 and 3F3 were located in the N terminal 84–89 amino acids and the C terminal 320–324 amino acids of the NP protein, respectively. We found that mAbs 10E9 and 3F3 reacted well with the NP protein of H1–H15 subtypes of IAV. Both 10E9 and 3F3 can be used in immunoprecipitation assay, and 10E9 was also successfully applied in confocal microscopy. Furthermore, we found that the 10E9-recognized 84SAGKDP89 epitope and 3F3-recognized 320ENPAH324 epitope were highly conserved in NP among all avian and human IAVs. Thus, the two mAbs we developed could be used as powerful tools in the development of diagnostic methods of IAV, and also surely promote the basic research in understanding the replication mechanisms of IAV.

Abstract Background Prolactinoma is the major cause of hyperprolactinemia, and dopamine agonists (DAs) are generally the first-line treatment for them. Several studies have reviewed the recurrent rate of hyperprolactinemia after DAs withdrawal. However, few of them have concerned the recurrence risk of prolactinoma following the withdrawal of DAs. Methods Three medical databases, PubMed, EMBASE and Cochrane library, were retrieved up to February, 14, 2021 to identify studies related to recurrence of prolactinoma and withdrawal of DAs. Statistical analyses including meta-analysis, sensitivity analysis, meta-regression, funnel plot and Egger test were performed through software R. Results A total of 3225 studies were retrieved from the three data bases, and 13 studies consisted of 616 patients and 19 arms were finally included in this systematic analysis. There was no significant heterogeneity among the included studies, and fixed effect model was thus used. The pooled recurrence proportion of prolactinoma after withdrawal of DA was 2% with a 95% confidence interval (CI) of 1–3%. Conclusion Our study showed a very low recurrent rate of prolactinomas after DAs withdrawal. Much more prospective studies with larger cases and longer follow-up period are encouraged to confirm our finding. Trial registration Registration number CRD42021245888 (PROSPERO).

Narrowband afterglow materials display interesting functions in high-quality anti-counterfeiting and multiplexed bioimaging. However, there is still a limited exploration of these afterglow materials, especially for those with a full width at half maxima (FWHM) around 30 nm. Here, we report the fabrication of narrowband organic/inorganic hybrid afterglow materials via energy transfer technology. Coronene (Cor) with a long phosphorescence feature and broad phosphorescence band is selected as the donor for energy transfer, and inorganic quantum dots (QDs) of CdSe/ZnS with a narrowband emission are used as acceptors. Upon doping into the organic matrix, the resultant three-component materials exhibit a narrowband afterglow with an afterglow lifetime of approximately 3.4 s and an FWHM of 31 nm. The afterglow wavelength of the afterglow materials can be controlled by the QDs. This work based on organic/inorganic hybrids provides a facile approach for developing multicolor and narrowband afterglow materials, as well as opens a new way for expanding the features of organic afterglow for multifunctional applications. It is expected to rely on narrowband afterglow emitters to solve the "spectrum congestion" problem of high-density information storage in optical anti-counterfeiting and information encryption. Background: The C-reactive protein-albumin-lymphocyte (CALLY) score is a novel indicator associated with inflammation, immunity, and nutrition, utilized for cancer prognostic stratification. This study aimed to evaluate the integrated prognostic significance of the pre-treatment CALLY score and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) DNA levels in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients and to develop prognostic models. Patients and Methods: A total of 1707 NPC patients from September 2015 to December 2017 were retrospectively enrolled. The cut-off point for the CALLY score, determined by maximum selected rank statistics, integrates with the published cut-off point for pre-EBV DNA to develop a comprehensive index. Subsequently, patients were randomly allocated in a 1:1 ratio into training and validation cohorts. Survival analysis was conducted using the Kaplan-Meier method with Log rank tests, and the Cox proportional hazards model was applied to identify independent prognostic factors for constructing predictive nomograms. The predictive ability of the nomograms were assessed through the concordance index (C-index), calibration curves, and decision curve analysis. Results: By integrating CALLY scores and EBV-DNA levels, patients were categorized into three risk clusters. Kaplan-Meier curves reveal significant differences in overall survival (OS), distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS), and locoregional relapse-free survival (LRRFS) outcomes among different risk groups (all P values < 0.05). Multivariate analysis revealed that CALLY-EBV DNA index serves as an independent prognostic factor for the OS, DMFS, and LRRFS. The prognostic nomograms based on the CALLY-EBV DNA index provided accurate predictions for 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year OS, DMFS, and LRRFS. Additionally, compared to the traditional TNM staging system, the nomograms exhibited enhanced discriminatory power, calibration capability, and clinical applicability. All results were in agreement with the validation cohort. Conclusion: The CALLY-EBV DNA index is an independent prognostic biomarker. The nomogram prediction models, constructed based on the CALLY-EBV DNA index, demonstrates superior predictive performance compared to the traditional TNM staging. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Fish are vital in river ecosystems; however, traditional investigations of fish usually cause ecological damage. Extracting DNA from aquatic environments and identifying DNA sequences offer an alternative, noninvasive approach for detecting fish species. In this study, the effects of environmental DNA (eDNA), coupled with PCR and next‐generation sequencing, and electrofishing for identifying fish community composition and diversity were compared. In three subtropical rivers of southern China, fish specimens and eDNA in water were collected along the longitudinal (upstream–downstream) gradient of the rivers. Both fish population parameters, including species abundance and biomass, and eDNA OTU richness grouped 38 sampling sites into eight spatial zones with significant differences in local fish community composition. Compared with order‐/family‐level grouping, genus‐/species‐level grouping could more accurately reveal the differences between upstream zones I−III, midstream zones IV−V, and downstream zones VI–VIII. From the headwaters to the estuary, two environmental gradients significantly influenced the longitudinal distribution of the fish species, including the first gradient composed of habitat and physical water parameters and the second gradient composed of chemical water parameters. The high regression coefficient of alpha diversity between eDNA and electrofishing methods as well as the accurate identification of dominant, alien, and biomarker species in each spatial zone indicated that eDNA could characterize fish community attributes at a level similar to that of traditional approaches. Overall, our results demonstrated that eDNA metabarcoding can be used as an effective tool for revealing fish composition and diversity, which is important for using the eDNA technique in aquatic field monitoring. Gram-negative bacteria depend on their cell membranes for survival and environmental adaptation. They contain two membranes, one of which is the outer membrane (OM), which is home to several different outer membrane proteins (Omps). One class of important Omps is porins, which mediate the inflow of nutrients and several antimicrobial drugs. The microorganism’s sensitivity to antibiotics, which are predominantly targeted at internal sites, is greatly influenced by the permeability characteristics of porins. In this review, the properties and interactions of five common porins, OmpA, OmpC, OmpF, OmpW, and OmpX, in connection to porin-mediated permeability are outlined. Meanwhile, this review also highlighted the discovered regulatory characteristics and identified molecular mechanisms in antibiotic penetration through porins. Taken together, uncovering porins’ functional properties will pave the way to investigate effective agents or approaches that use porins as targets to get rid of resistant gram-negative bacteria.

The conversion of waste into a valuable product is regarded as a promising alternative to relieving the burden of solid waste management and could be beneficial to the environment and humans. This study is focused on utilizing eggshell and orange peel enriched with banana starch to fabricate biofilm via the casting technique. The developed film is further characterized by field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The physical properties of films, including thickness, density, color, porosity, moisture content, water solubility, water absorption, and water vapor permeability, were also characterized. The removal efficiency of the metal ions onto film at different contact times, pH, biosorbent dosages, and initial concentration of Cd(II) were analyzed using atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS). The film’s surface was found to have a porous and rough structure with no cracks, which can enhance the target analytes interactions. EDX and XRD analyses confirmed that eggshell particles were made of calcium carbonate (CaCO3), and the appearance of the main peak at 2θ = 29.65° and 2θ = 29.49° proves the presence of calcite in eggshells. The FTIR indicated that the films contain various functional groups, such as alkane (C-H), hydroxyl (-OH), carbonyl (C=O), carbonate (CO32−), and carboxylic acid (-COOH) that can act as biosorption materials. According to the findings, the developed film exhibits a notable enhancement in its water barrier properties, thereby leading to improved adsorption capacity. The batch experiments showed that the film obtained the maximum removal percentage at pH = 8 and 6 g of biosorbent dose. Notably, the developed film could reach sorption equilibrium within 120 min at the initial concentration of 80 mg/L and remove 99.95% of Cd(II) in the aqueous solutions. This outcome presents potential opportunities for the application of these films in the food industry as both biosorbents and packaging materials. Such utilization can significantly enhance the overall quality of food products.

The deep excavation of foundation pit in soft soil layer will cause serious disturbance to the soil at the bottom of the pit. Affected by excavation disturbance, the mechanical properties and stress state of the soil at the bottom of the pit will change. Hence, it is important to accurately evaluate the degree of soil disturbance caused by excavation and the influence of disturbance on soil mechanical properties. Based on the summary of the existing evaluation methods of soil disturbance, taking the foundation pit excavation of Taihu tunnel as an example, the distribution of disturbance degree and the depth of strong disturbed zone of soil under the center of the pit bottom under different excavation depths were studied by using the finite element simulation method. Then, taking the undrained shear strength as an evaluation index, a method for evaluating excavation disturbance of clayey soil based on the cone tip resistance in the piezocone penetration test (CPTU) was established. The soil disturbance calculated through cone tip resistance was agreeable with that determined by numerical calculation. Finally, combined with the soil disturbance determined by the finite element method, the settlement of disturbed soil at the bottom of the pit under different base additional stresses was calculated considering the settlement of soil disturbance. The results showed that the soil disturbance would cause a significant increase in the base settlement. When the base additional stress increased from 100 kPa to 150 kPa, the ratio of base settlement with soil disturbance to that without soil disturbance would increase from 1.43 to 2.24.

Al2O3:C optically stimulated luminescence dosimeter (OSLD) was prepared by liquid film forming method, and its dosimetric properties were studied. The results showed that the background was 0.03 mGy after annealing, the uniformity was better than 2%, and it had linear response with correlation coefficient R2=0.999 6 in the measurement range of 0.02 mGy-10 Gy, the difference between the response coefficients of β and γ ray was about 10%, the response coefficient of neutron was about 4%-7% of β and γ rays, the response signal of dosimeter had no obvious attenuation after multiple measurements, and the response changed by 5% in two months after exposure, which can be used for dose archiving and retesting in a certain period. The results show that the OSLD prepared by the liquid film forming method has good dosimetric properties, which prove the feasibility of the method.

I-131 is an important artificial radionuclide and an important detection object in nuclear facilities. The current mainstream method is to use a uniformly distributed Ba-133 source instead of an iodine source to calibrate the I-131 detection instrument. However, in the process of value transmission, the distribution of the I-131 calibration standard source directly affects the setting value of the standard source and affects the calibration of the testing instrument. The plane source is used to determine the detection efficiency at different depths, and the depth efficiency curve is established. The fitting result is η(x)=0.007 655e-0.020 6x. Therefore, the activity efficiency equation of I-131 was established through mathematical analysis, and the positive and negative measurement results were used to solve it to determine its activity distribution. The distribution of the three I-131 sources is uniform distribution, exponential distribution and plane distribution. The deviation of exponential distribution source is between the deviation of the positive and negative measurement results of the uniform distribution source，which does not exceed 1%，and the deviation of the positive and negative measurement results of the planar distribution source，which exceeds 50%. By judging the quick solution of the source distribution, it is easy to prepare the calibration standard source and establish the on-site calibration process.
