Natural ageing has a major influence on the properties of paper, while light, heat, and humidity are the environmental influences that most disrupt the stability of paper. This research focuses on changes in straw-containing papers caused by accelerated ageing. The papers were made in the laboratory by mixing straw pulp with the pulp of recycled fibers in different weight ratios and were artificially aged by a dry-heat treatment (thermal oxidation) and UV radiation treatment (photo-oxidation) over a 24 h period to simulate natural ageing. The observed changes in the optical, surface, and chemical stability of papers were analyzed and are discussed in this paper. It is evident that, regardless of the origin of straw for pulp production, it forms papers that undergoes similar optical properties (photo-yellowing and brightness lose), while certain differences have been observed in surface and chemical stability. Based on all analyses performed as part of this research, it was found that paper produced with the addition of wheat pulp is the most stable of all laboratory straw-containing papers. However, it must be emphasized that, if lignin-containing straw pulp is used as the main constituent of paper, the brightness stability of such pulp must be improved, or the paper surface must be improved by surface finishing in order to obtain greater stability against ageing.

The aim of the present study was to investigate highly efficient alkyl ketene dimer (AKD) emulsions to improve the hydrophobicity of cellulose paper. AKD emulsions stabilized by guar gel were obtained; the guar gel was prepared by hydrogen bond cross-linking sodium tetraborate and guar gum. The cross-linking was confirmed by combining FTIR and SEM. The effect of guar gel on the performance of the AKD emulsions was also studied by testing AKD emulsions stabilized by different guar gel concentrations. The results showed that with increasing guar gel concentration, the stability of the AKD emulsions improved, the droplet diameter decreased, and the hydrophobicity and water resistance of the sized packaging paper were gradually enhanced. Through SEM, the guar gel film covering the AKD emulsion droplet surface and the three-dimensional structure in the aqueous dispersion phase were assessed. This study constructed a scientific and efficient preparation method for AKD emulsions and provided a new method for the application of carbohydrate polymer gels which may avoid the adverse effect of surfactant on paper sizing and environmental problems caused by surfactant bioaccumulation.

Phase II metabolites play an important role in diazepam-related cases. The study aimed to assess the stability of diazepam's phase II metabolites in dried blood spots on filter paper. A piece of filter paper was spotted with 100 µL of whole blood (added 1% sodium fluoride as needed) obtained from participant who received 5 mg diazepam orally, air dried for 2 h at room temperature, and then stored at different conditions. Whole spots were cut at 0.1 cm from the outer edge of blood spots at post-consumption time-points of prior (zero), 5, 16, 35, 61, 120 days and 1, 1.5 years. Analytes were extracted with methanol/water mixture (8:2, v/v) and determined using HPLC-MS/MS. Decomposition rules were analyzed by a statistical software "SPSS". Temazepam glucuronide remained stable (0.5–18.6% loss) at 20 ℃ and at 20 ℃ with 1% sodium fluoride for 16 days, while it was unstable after 5 days at 4 ℃ (21.1–26.2% loss) and − 20 ℃ (28.9 - 34.4% loss). After 35 days, temazepam glucuronide concentrations began to fluctuate significantly under all conditions, and an obvious increase (290.4–355.1%) was observed in 1.5 years. Oxazepam glucuronide was always unstable after 5 days, the percentage loss was even 100% when it was stored for 61 days and 1.5 years. Dried blood spots on ordinary filter paper are recommended to be stored at 20 ℃ or 20 ℃ with 1% sodium fluoride within 16 days. Samples should be analyzed immediately or stored in sterile and dry media. • TG was stable on filter paper at 20 ℃ with or without 1 % NaF within 16 days, and it is a more reliable marker in real cases. • OG was always unstable after 5 days, the percentage loss was even 100% when it was stored for 61 days and 1.5 years. • DBS on filter paper in diazepam-related cases are recommended to be stored at 20 ℃ with or without 1 % NaF within 16 days. Due to the rising problem of deforestation, slow renewability, and higher cost of wood sources, it is of great importance for the paper and packaging industry to find suitable, environmentally friendly alternative sources of cellulose fibers. Much of the research has focused on studying the use of non-wood sources from various annual or perennial plants from which cellulose fibers can be obtained with equal quality to those from wood sources, since they are a fast-growing, renewable, and cheap source of fibers. This research focuses on the laboratory production and stability valorization of a paper substrate for packaging containing virgin fibers from triticale straw mixed with recycled wood pulp in various amounts up to 30%, printed with black ink through a simulation of the offset printing technique under controlled conditions. For stability analysis, printed paper substrates were subjected to three treatments essential for packaging: aging, rubbing, and chemical treatment. The stability of the prints was evaluated after treatments though spectrophotometric measurements (ΔE*ab, ΔR, ΔL*, Δa*, Δb*) and Fourier transform infrared analysis. The aging, rubbing, and chemical stability of the prints with the addition of triticale virgin fibers was improved for all product packaging except for products containing soybean oil. In this study, the polymer PTSPM-PMETAC with anion adsorption properties was prepared by a one-step method, then the amino-modified nano-SiO2 was grafted onto the polymer to improve the roughness of the surface and enhance the stability of superhydrophobic properties, and a high-stability superhydrophobic paper with ion-induced wettability transition properties was successfully prepared. The study found that the paper can realize the reversible control of surface wettability through the exchange between the anions PF6− and Cl− adsorbed on the surface of PMETAC, and further investigation of the effect of different solvents on the ion exchange properties found that water was the poor solvent for ion exchange, while the mixtures of methanol, acetone, and methanol & water were the good solvent. On the whole, the preparation of superhydrophobic paper by this method not only simple in preparation process, low in cost and strong in universality, but also the prepared superhydrophobic paper has high transparency and good stability, which has great application potential in industrial production.

This review article covers all types of paper-based humidity sensor, such as capacitive, resistive, impedance, fiber-optic, mass-sensitive, microwave, and RFID (radio-frequency identification) humidity sensors. The parameters of these sensors and the materials involved in their research and development, such as carbon nanotubes, graphene, semiconductors, and polymers, are comprehensively detailed, with a special focus on the advantages/disadvantages from an application perspective. Numerous technological/design approaches to the optimization of the performances of the sensors are considered, along with some non-conventional approaches. In this paper, a simple method for preparing high stability superhydrophobic paper with pH-induced wettability transition was proposed. Firstly, the pH-responsive monomer 2- (dimethylamino) ethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA), the silicon-containing crosslinking monomer 3-trimethoxysilyl propyl methacrylate (TSPM) and the fluorine-containing monomer hexafluorobutyl methacrylate (HFMA) were polymerized to prepare the pH-responsive polymer PHFMA-PTSPM-PDMAEMA. Afterwards, the amino-modified SiO _2 was grafted onto the polymer to provide roughness and then coated on the paper to prepare the superhydrophobic paper with pH-responsive properties. Further research found that the modified paper prepared by this method not only has strong stability and transparency, but also can realize the reversible regulation of superhydrophobic & lipophilic and super-oleophobic & hydrophilic properties under different pH-induction, and it has important application value in the field of oil-water separation in industrial applications.

The assessment of the risk of virus transmission through papers, such as postcards, is important. However, the stability of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and influenza A virus (IAV) on different types of papers is currently unknown. Investigation of the survival time of these viruses on different types of papers will provide insights into their risk of long-distance transport by postal items. We evaluated the stability of SARS-CoV-2 and IAV, mixed with a culture medium, on the surface of postcards with various coatings, including plain paper (PP), inkjet paper (IP), and inkjet photo paper (IPP). The surface structure of each paper was microscopically assessed. The surface structures of PP, IP, and IPP varied greatly depending on the presence or absence, and type, of coat layer, regardless of the base material. IP and IPP surfaces were less conducive to virus survival than PP surfaces, because of the difference in surface shapes. The survival times of SARS-CoV-2 on each paper were approximately 59.8 (PP), 6.5 (IP), and 9.8 h (IPP), and significantly longer than those of IAV (10.3, 1.8, and 3.3 h, respectively). The risk of SARS-CoV-2 transmission via paper, such as postcards, is significantly higher than that of IAV transmission. While PP, IP, and IPP have the same base material, their surface structures differ, which affects viral stability. The IP and IPP surfaces are less suitable for virus survival. This paper presents the optimized technological process for obtaining stable calcium carbonate dispersion (CaCO3) in accordance to the standard prescribed in the paper industry. The reason for using CaCO3 in paper production is their low price when compared to the cellulose fibers and its ability to improve the properties of the final product. However, CaCO3 is alkaline filler that has relatively poor chemical stability that may affect the characteristics of the paper. For this reasons it is necessary to optimize the technology for obtaining a stable dispersion of CaCO3 with particles diameter in range 1 mm

This research successfully synthesized a cross-linking modified MXene composite material, which could be used in preparation of the paper-based humidity sensor to endow it with structural stability, antioxidant property, and efficient real-time humidity monitoring performance. Herein, we propose a humidity sensor made from the paper-based flexible sensor with copper electrode and polyethyleneimine/silver nitrate cross-linking modified MXene composite materials. The humidity sensor prepared in this work presents a satisfactory capacitance response rate (819.9 % in 97 % RH) and favorable sensitivity (6.9/11.9 s for response/recovery time). Meanwhile, the humidity sensor possesses outstanding structural stability (less than 3 % attenuation of the capacitance response after 100 bending cycles) and superior oxidation resistance. Moreover, the real-time humidity monitor assembled based on the humidity sensor has realized the effective monitoring of human skin humidity and dynamic respiration. Consequently, this study provides a viable approach for achieving reliable real-time humidity monitoring, demonstrating significant potential in the realms of intelligent actuators, sensing devices, and health care. In this note, we revisit the result of the Toeplitz matrix inversion formula proposed by Lv and Huang (2007), then we give a new structured perturbation analysis, which is useful for testing the stability of practical algorithms. It has been shown that our new upper bound is much sharper than the one they have given, especially when the size of the Toeplitz matrix is very large. Disturbance is common in natural ecosystems, but increasingly defines them. While there are many descriptions for the dynamics of an ecosystem's response to disturbance, there are few descriptions for the dynamics of the disturbance itself. I describe a novel application of a model based on the production of amplitude envelopes in acoustics and electronic music synthesis, with varying parameters Attack, Decay, Sustain, and Release (ADSR). I show that varying the parameters of the ADSR model is sufficient to produce and vary the qualitative disturbance regimes described by previous authors, and is capable of producing dynamics not previously considered. I tested the utility of the ADSR model by applying it to a logistic growth model. I found that manipulating the attack and release parameters of the ADSR model changes the population dynamics estimated by these models. This implies that responses to disturbance are determined not only by the resilience and resistance of the ecological system, but also the dynamics of the disturbance itself. My hope is that the ADSR model will prove useful to researchers in either describing disturbances in long‐term ecological data, or in producing disturbances for simulations or experiments. Stability in queue characteristics with average power and maximized data processing is a prominent research issue in any networks. These should be ensured even in Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) models where smooth and continuous integration of innovative applications are provided with low latency and improved quality. An offloading plan is required for ensuring this with regulation of processing capacity and network operational cost in edge nodes which will improve the efficiency of the IoT with edge computing. A task-based offloading algorithm is proposed in this paper for taking smart decisions for better resource allocation and augmentation of computational capabilities to the MEC server by allowing mobile devices (MDs) for offloading their intensive computation-based tasks to proximal Multi-eNodeBs (Multi-eNBs) based on the time-varying channel desired state. A wireless MEC devices model which is being used by many users for broadcasting their task is considered. The queue stability and minimizing the consumed energy along with maximizing the reward even under the constrained deadline is maintained by our proposed novel framework, named DCARL–ARP (Deep Convolution Attention Reinforcement Learning–Adaptive Rewarding Policy) which combines the Deep Convolution and Lyapunov optimization with feature map attention mechanism. DCARL–ARP is incorporated for the proper state selection decisions at different time frame. The performance analysis and evaluation prove that the DCARL–ARP has the optimum computation rate which is appropriate for real-time implementation in varying channel conditions. The experimental evaluation shows that this mechanism can effectively reduce the average energy consumption for execution by 0.02% and the average data queue length by 50%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Anthocyanins, a significant subclass of polyphenols, are prevalent across various plant species. Known for their vibrant colors, which make them desirable as natural pigments, anthocyanins have also garnered attention for their diverse biological activities, leading to their widespread use in food processing and supplement development. However, their structural instability poses a challenge, as it directly impacts their bioavailability and, consequently, their nutritional efficacy. This review paper delves into the chemical structure and food sources of anthocyanins and examines strategies to enhance their stability and bioavailability, particularly through improved understanding of their digestion and absorption in the human body. Additionally, it explores the broad spectrum of anthocyanins’ biological activities, including their antioxidant, hypoglycemic, anticancer, cardiovascular, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective effects, analyzing these properties from a mechanistic perspective. Factors such as pH, temperature, light exposure, solvent interactions, and metal ions are known to negatively affect anthocyanin stability. Laccase is a versatile enzyme that plays a major role in the remediation of various environmental pollutants. In this work, a thermo-tolerant halophilic Bacillus aquimaris AKRC02 was isolated from pulp and paper mill waste sludge for efficient laccase production. Various agro-industrial waste residues, including potato peel, banana peel, sawdust, pea peel, wheat bran, orange peel, and rice bran, were screened to produce laccase using a submerged fermentation process. Among these, rice bran supported the maximum laccase production (4.58 U/mL). The optimized environmental conditions (incubation time 120 h; 4.58 U/mL), 35 0C; 6.624 U/mL) and pH 7.0; 10.142 U/mL) and nutritional sources (glucose 1.0%; 14.164 U/mL and peptone 0.5%; 18.124 U/mL) significantly enhanced the laccase production. Purified laccase showed a specific activity and purification fold of 228.34 U/mg and 38.08, respectively. The purified enzyme showed a molecular weight of 65 kDa and high thermal stability at 45 0C for 8 h. In conclusion, the remarkable properties of the newly isolated bacterium may provide a significant opportunity for degrading environmental contaminants, making it an attractive biocatalyst for industrial applications. Foam forming is an innovative process for papermaking that yields various paper products with excellent formability and porosity. The stability of the foam is a critical factor in foam forming technology. The effects of different surfactants and gases (N2 and CO2) on the ability of the foams to coalesce and the stability of the foams were studied. The properties of the liquid film were investigated via high-speed camera observation and infrared spectrum. The CO2 foam was less stable than the N2 foam under the same conditions, especially for the polyvinyl alcohol surfactant. The infrared spectra and high-speed camera observation showed that the main factor that resulted in CO2 foam instability was the bubble coalescence caused via the gas diffusion in the foam column, although the process of liquid film thinning was performed simultaneously. The greater the liquid film permeability coefficient of the foam, the easier the gas was able to spread throughout the liquid film.
