The Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC) is a proposing electron–positron collider in China, which aims for generating high center-of-mass energy colliding above 250 GeV. The high-granularity electromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL) is included in a calorimeter system, which is mainly responsible for the measurement of photon. A particle flow algorithm (PFA)-based ECAL solution will utilize about 400k channels/m3. Here, we present the design and development status of readout electronics based on SPIROC2b for the CEPC ECAL with high-granularity scintillants and silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs). The readout electronics consists of front-end electronics (FEE), data interface (DIF) board, and data acquisition (DAQ) board. The front-end board (FEB) carries SiPMs (S12571-010P), scintillants (PSD), and FEB application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) (SPIROC2b). Two electronics were designed in this paper, one is for ASIC functionality and performance only, and the other is used as a single layer of a further prototype of ECAL. Electronic test and cosmic ray test have been done to electronics. The results indicate that a charge dynamic from 62 fC to 300 pC at S/N = 2 is successfully achieved, and the minimum ionizing particles (MIPs) are separated from the pedestal. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In China, two modular multilevel converter (MMC) projects were recently commissioned, and another two are currently under construction. The real-time hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test bench played an important role in validating the manufacturer's controllers. The full detail MMC model does not fit with the HIL test bench, which has to solve the circuit containing numerous switches and handles a large amount of inputs and outputs at a small time step for real-time simulation. The main challenge is to find a method to model and simulate the MMC systems with sufficient detail, accuracy, and speed. This paper presents an equivalent circuit method for the HIL test bench. The circuit inside the submodule is represented by mathematical equations, implemented in CPU or a field-programmable gate array, and solved in parallel to achieve real-time performance. This method-based test bench is used in those MMC projects in China and connected to the manufacturer's controllers for HIL tests. The model accuracy and simulation speed achieved by this method met the requirements of the HIL tests. In this paper, various scenarios are tested in an MMC HVDC study system. The ?1100 kV UHVDC wall bushing is the important power equipment in the ?1100 kV DC power transmission project of China. However, the reported literatures rarely mention its design method and the optimization of its insulation structure. In this paper, two specific designing schemes including the resin impregnated paper (RIP) condenser and the metalshielded core have been both adopted in the design of the wall bushing. Moreover, the actual operating environment and the rated parameters of the ?1100 kV UHVDC wall bushing have been analyzed in detail. Then, the nonlinear finite element method (FEM) analysis has been applied in the three-dimensional electric stress simulation of the UHVDC wall bushing. The electric field and temperature dependencies of the composite insulation used in the wall bushing have been taken into account. The E-field simulation results indicate that with the RIP condenser, the potential and electric field distribution can be much more uniform along the composite insulator of the bushing. Therefore, the compact design of the wall bushing can be obtained by this designing scheme. On the other hand, with the type of the metal-shielded core, the high E-field strength areas are mainly concentrated on the metal shield and the outer grading ring of the wall bushing. Therefore, the nonlinear FEM was applied in the structure optimization of the internal metal-shielded system used in the wall bushing. Finally, the maximum E-field strength of the wall bushing can meet the control requirement. Based on the simulation results and the optimization structure, the ?660 kV scaled prototype of the UHVDC wall bushing has been produced and passed through all the type tests according to the IEC 62199. The feasibility of the design of the ?1100 kV UHVDC wall bushing has been verified. A quasi-continuous high magnetic field is a special kind of pulsed magnetic field with a flat-top field longer than 100 ms. This paper proposes a hybrid power supply that consists of a capacitor power supply and a generator-rectifier power supply. A dual-coil magnet is powered to generate a 65 T/100 ms quasicontinuous high magnetic field with a ripple less than 500 ppm at the Wuhan National High Magnetic Field Center, Wuhan, China. A protection circuit consists of an R-C branch and a diode array is discussed for the worst short-circuit fault, which occurs between the first turns of inner coil and outer coil. This type of faultwill produce oscillation voltage with a high peak value and high frequency on the rectifiers. A self-adaptive PI controller with the coefficients corrected by a back propagation neural network is adopted to reduce the ripple of a flat-top. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With the rapid development of high-speed and high-power railway system in China, power quality such as the negative sequence current and harmonic current caused by electric locomotives becomes more and more critical. This paper proposes a half-bridge-converter-based railway static power conditioner (RPC) (HBRPC) which consists of two half-bridge converters connected by two capacitors in series. Compared with the traditional RPC, the HBRPC requires only a pair of power switch legs and two capacitors. Under the premise of accomplishing the same function of RPC, the proposed conditioner can reduce half of the power switches, which can make it with lower cost and hardware complexity. A double-loop control is proposed for HBRPC to keep the dc-link voltage stable and achieve the dynamic tracking of the current reference signals, while a balanced voltage control is proposed to eliminate the error of two capacitor voltages and maintain the normal operation of HBRPC. Coils for pulsed magnets in the range of 50-75 T are developed with optimized combinations of conductors and reinforcement for the prototype laboratory of the Wuhan High Magnetic Field Center (WHMFC). The basic design tool is a Pulsed Magnet Design Software package (PMDS) for calculating the capacitor discharge, conductor heating, mechanical stresses and the residual stress, including plastic deformation and winding tension. A 1 MJ capacitor bank is equipped with a thyristor switch, a mechanical switch, polarity reversal switches, a current limiting inductor and a diode crowbar. Two types of pulsed power supply, a modular 12 MJ/25 kV capacitor bank and a 100 MVA flywheel pulsed generator, are under construction for the pulsed high magnetic field facility at the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) in Wuhan, China. The capacitor bank consists of 11 independent 1 MJ modules with a short circuit current of 40 kA each and 2 independent 0.5 MJ modules for 50 kA each. The bank is used to energize coils for magnetic fields in the 50–80 T range with pulse duration from 15 to 200 ms. The pulsed flywheel-alternator is used to energize a 50 T/100 ms long-pulse magnet via two 12-pulse power converter modules. Each converter module is designed to operate in the 95 to 66 Hz frequency operation range of the generator and can provide a no-load voltage of 4.6 kV and a full-load voltage of 3.4 kV at the rated current of 20 kA. A pulsed high magnetic field laboratory has been funded to be established at the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), Wuhan, China by the National Development and Reform Committee. The facility is planned to be open for external users in 2011 with the implementation of various experimental techniques in pulsed magnetic fields up to 80 T. Pulse durations are in the range from 15 to 1000 ms with the magnet bore sizes from 12 to 34 mm. The pulsed power supplies are a 12 MJ, 25 kV capacitor bank and a 100 MVA/100 MJ flywheel pulse generator. The design and analysis of the power supplies and the magnets of short and long pulse durations and the multi-stage pulsed magnets with controllable waveforms are presented in this paper. In the 1950s, coupled with economic growth in China, there was an ever increasing demand for electric power, which led to the rapid growth of electrical equipment manufacturing and the need for suitably educated engineers. In 1953 the discipline of Electrical Insulation and Cables was initially established at Jiaotong University, and the course Dielectric Physics was its major theoretical cornerstone. Today, the course is still one of the main courses for this discipline. Professor Chen Jidan was the founder of this discipline, and he was responsible for this course. He studied at Manchester University in the United Kingdom in 1931, and his dissertation for his master's degree dealt with the dielectric loss of castor oil at high frequency.
