The development of renewable energy sources minimizes the burning of fossil fuels for clean and green environment. Electrochemical energy storage/conversion device pays a way towards sustainable development that concludes an emerging field in the trends of the research community. Prominently, the functional materials with suitable structure and property determine the performance and durability of the devices. In recent times, graphene with its tremendous properties play a major role in electrochemical energy device applications. Meanwhile, the graphene-based electrodes were fabricated by various coating techniques on existing electrodes that utilized for energy device fabrication. Apart from these, it is also fabricated in a paper like a form (self-supported or free-standing) with its remarkable high conductivity, flexibility, robustness and electrochemical behavior which have been nominated for fabrication of flexible energy devices. Paper-like electrodes become an emerging field to fabricate a light-weight and flexible electronic devices for future prospects. Thus, we have summarized a synthetic strategy of graphene paper and its properties that potentially focused on flexible device fabrication in both the energy storage and conversion system. Transitioning to a sustainable energy future necessitates innovative storage solutions for renewable energies, where hydrogen (H₂) emerges as a pivotal energy carrier for its low emission potential. This paper explores unlined rock caverns (URCs) as a promising alternative for underground hydrogen storage (UHS), overcoming the geographical and technical limitations of UHS methods like salt rock caverns and porous media. Drawing from the experiences of natural gas (NG) and compressed air energy storage (CAES) in URCs, we explore the viability of URCs for storing hydrogen at gigawatt-hour scales (>100 GWh). Despite challenges such as potential uplift failures (at a depth of approximately less than 1000 m) and hydrogen reactivity with storage materials at typical conditions (below temperatures of 100°C and pressures of 15 MPa), URCs present a flexible, scalable option closely allied with green hydrogen production from renewable sources. Our comprehensive review identifies critical design considerations, including hydraulic containment and the integrity of fracture sealing materials under UHS conditions. Addressing identified knowledge gaps, particularly around the design of hydraulic containment systems and the interaction of hydrogen with cavern materials, will be crucial for advancing URC technology. With the increasing use of renewable energy sources and decentralized power systems, certain challenges have emerged in meeting consumers' electrical energy demands. The intermittent nature of renewable energy generation means that it cannot always align with consumers' needs, resulting in periods of excess energy production when it is not required. To bridge this gap between production and consumption, energy storage systems are necessary. This paper defines the work of an isolated microgrid, which consists of renewable sources (wind and PV) for energy production, households with electric vehicles as consumers, and a combined storage system. This storage system is made from batteries, hydrogen storage, and a control system that defines the best use of the storage. Stored energy is utilized through fuel cells to generate electricity for consumption when renewable sources cannot meet the demand. This paper presents the principles of electrolysis and models of individual elements within such a system, as well as the definition and principle of control of the system functionality based on rules and conditions. The proposed control system aims to increase the energy storage lifecycle by deciding when and how to utilize which type of storage and define a self-sufficient microgrid based on renewable sources of production. An economic analysis of the storage part of the system was carried out in which the levelized cost of energy stored and the NPC of the storage systems are calculated. A simulation of the system's operation is conducted using one-hour measurements of wind turbines, solar panels, and household consumption in Serbia. The paper is devoted to the development of a device for protecting facilities with turn-to-turn insulation, namely transformers and wind generators in order to increase the reliability of operation of electrical power systems, renewable energy installations and energy storage systems. The paper presents the results of experimental studies of the parameters of a prototype frequency-dependent device, as well as an assessment of the effectiveness of suppression of high-frequency surge voltages by the proposed device. The results of four groups of measurements are shown, which were compared with each other and with the results of previously showed computer simulations. The high efficiency of the proposed device when influencing the slope and amplitude of short high-frequency transients is shown. It is indicated that the parameters proposed earlier in the simulation allow the device to be used effectively. A brief analysis of alternative methods and means of protection is provided, and the prospects for using the device as protective equipment for wind power plants are also considered. The development of renewable energy will increase the demand for flexible resources in power systems due to the strong uncertainties. To allocate resources and cope with these uncertainties, it is beneficial to apply robust coordinated energy storage and transmission expansion planning (ES&TEP). The large candidate line set can significantly increase the computational complexity of robust optimization models. However, there is currently no suitable network search space reduction (NSSR) method to address this problem. This paper designs a NSSR method based on redundancy constraint identification that only requires information on component power ranges rather than fixed power curves, which can be well adapted to robust optimization. Additionally, this method requires only basic numerical calculations and ensures convergence within a finite number of iterations. The classical stochastic robust ES&TEP model and the column and constraint generation (C&CG) algorithm are used to validate the effectiveness of the NSSR method. In the case studies, the numerical results confirm the rationality and effectiveness of the approach proposed in this paper. This paper presents a cutting-edge Sustainable Power Management System for Light Electric Vehicles (LEVs) using a Hybrid Energy Storage Solution (HESS) integrated with Machine Learning (ML)-enhanced control. The system's central feature is its ability to harness renewable energy sources, such as Photovoltaic (PV) panels and supercapacitors, which overcome traditional battery-dependent constraints. The proposed control algorithm orchestrates power sharing among the battery, supercapacitor, and PV sources, optimizing the utilization of available renewable energy and ensuring stringent voltage regulation of the DC bus. Notably, the ML-based control ensures precise torque and speed regulation, resulting in significantly reduced torque ripple and transient response times. In practical terms, the system maintains the DC bus voltage within a mere 2.7% deviation from the nominal value under various operating conditions, a substantial improvement over existing systems. Furthermore, the supercapacitor excels at managing rapid variations in load power, while the battery adjusts smoothly to meet the demands. Simulation results confirm the system's robust performance. The HESS effectively maintains voltage stability, even under the most challenging conditions. Additionally, its torque response is exceptionally robust, with negligible steady-state torque ripple and fast transient response times. The system also handles speed reversal commands efficiently, a vital feature for real-world applications. The electricity grid with high-penetration renewable energy sources has urged us to seek means to solve the mismatching between electricity supply and demand. Energy storage technology could accomplish the energy conversion process between different periods to achieve the efficient and stable utilization of renewable energy sources. In this paper, a hybrid energy storage system based on compressed air energy storage and reversible solid oxidation fuel cell (rSOC) is proposed. During the charging process, the rSOC operates in electrolysis cell (EC) mode to achieve the energy storage by converting the compression heat to chemical fuels. During the discharging process, the cell operates in fuel cell mode for electricity production and the gas turbine is conducted to recover the waste heat from cell. To evaluate the comprehensive performance of the proposed system, the energy, exergy, and exergoeconomic studies are conducted in this paper. Under the design condition, the results indicated that the proposed system is capable of generating 300.36 kW of electricity and 106.28 kW of heating; in the meantime, the energy efficiency, exergy efficiency, and total cost per unit exergy of product are 73.80%, 55.70%, and 216.78 $/MWh, respectively. The parametric analysis indicates that the increase in pressure ratio of air compressor, steam utilization factor of rSOC stack under EC mode and current density of the rSOC stack under EC mode reduce exergy efficiency and total cost per unit exergy of product simultaneously, while the increment of operating pressure of rSOC stack under FC mode enhances the exergy efficiency and decreases total cost per unit exergy of product. The multi-objective optimization is carried out to improve the comprehensive performance of the proposed system, and the results expressed that the best optimal solution has the exergy efficiency and total cost per unit exergy of product of 65.85% and 187.05 $/MWh, respectively. Compared to the basic operating condition, the improvement of the proposed system has led to the maximum enhancement of 20.32% in exergy efficiency and 18.60% in total cost per unit exergy of product. This paper proposes a comprehensive solution to the challenges of managing a hybrid microgrid that generates electricity from multiple sustainable energy sources by proposing a coordinated energy management strategy and storage system. As renewable energy generation becomes increasingly popular, it introduces greater intermittency and stochasticity in energy management. To address this issue, a coordinated energy management strategy and storage system is proposed, which includes a fuzzy logic modified super twisting algorithm (MSTA). The objectives are to optimize the design and operation of microgrid including electrical based energy conversion systems such as photovoltaic and wind turbines, fuel cells, tidal energy, electric vehicle charging stations, and main grid. The second objective is to develop an energy management system for hybrid energy storage systems (HESS) and renewable energy sources (RESs) to maximize power production and ensure service continuity and smooth output energy of the microgrid, while also providing optimal benefits. To maintain cost‐effectiveness, an On/Off maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm is also proposed. The necessity of employing renewable energy sources within microgrid-based Power-to-X (P2X) systems has been emphasized by the imperatives of reducing global warming and fossil fuel consumption. Due to their numerous advantages, solar and wind energy have acquired prominence in contemporary power systems. However, their intermittent nature presents challenges. To overcome these challenges, energy storage devices are utilized. Batteries, however, are plagued by issues such as high maintenance needs, self-discharge, and diminishing storage capacity with age. Consequently, investigating alternatives such as hydrogen storage has become a financially viable option, especially for high-power applications. However, the intrinsically slow dynamics of hydrogen production from electricity contrast with the rapid responses of contemporary power electronic devices. This paper presents a versatile technique for optimizing hydrogen production in the presence of stochastic fluctuations in solar irradiance and wind speed. The proposed method combines a modified version of the Symbiotic Differential Whale Optimization Algorithm (m-SDWOA) with power converters to maximize production from renewable sources and electrolyzers. Using extensive simulations to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method by comparing its performance to that of the Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). A continuous energy supply to the load side is required by modern power systems. This calls for a sound understanding of how to forecast load demand in the present and the future with the least degree of inaccuracy. Typically, a sequential method with two steps—forecasting and optimization—is used to derive judgments from data. For achieving this goal, optimized power flow is focused in this paper through load forecasting, mode selection, and optimization of power forecasting. Firstly, load forecasting is implemented using time series, and economic and weather-related information for the different consumer's load. Then mode selection is implemented using Hidden Markov Model that determines the requested load for grid-connected or RES mode. When composite RES is developed, the percentage of serviced load rises as more renewable energy sources are added. Following the implementation of the consumer load and mode selection, optimization is used to improve the power flow. The empirical findings show enhanced prescriptive performance when compared to answers found in single- and multi-household contexts. Electricity generation in Islanded Urban Microgrids (IUMG) now relies heavily on a diverse range of Renewable Energy Sources (RES). However, the dependable utilization of these sources hinges upon efficient Electrical Energy Storage Systems (EESs). As the intermittent nature of RES output and the low inertia of IUMGs often lead to significant frequency fluctuations, the role of EESs becomes pivotal. While these storage systems effectively mitigate frequency deviations, their high costs and elevated power density requirements necessitate alternative strategies to balance power supply and demand. In recent years, substantial attention has turned towards harnessing Electric Vehicle (EV) batteries as Mobile EV Energy Storage (MEVES) units to counteract frequency variations in IUMGs. Integrating MEVES into the IUMG infrastructure introduces complexity and demands a robust control mechanism for optimal operation. Therefore, this paper introduces a robust, high-order degree of freedom cascade controller known as the 1PD-3DOF-PID (1 + Proportional + Derivative—Three Degrees Of Freedom Proportional-Integral-Derivative) controller for Load Frequency Control (LFC) in IUMGs integrated with MEVES. The controller's parameters are meticulously optimized using the Coati Optimization Algorithm (COA) which mimics coati behavior in nature, marking its debut in LFC of IUMG applications. Comparative evaluations against classical controllers and algorithms, such as 3DOF-PID, PID, Reptile Search Algorithm, and White Shark Optimizer, are conducted under diverse IUMG operating scenarios. The testbed comprises various renewable energy sources, including wind turbines, photovoltaics, Diesel Engine Generators (DEGs), Fuel Cells (FCs), and both Mobile and Fixed energy storage units. Managing power balance in this entirely renewable environment presents a formidable challenge, prompting an examination of the influence of MEVES, DEG, and FC as controllable units to mitigate active power imbalances. Metaheuristic algorithms in MATLAB-SIMULINK platforms are employed to identify the controller's gains across all case studies, ensuring the maintenance of IUMG system frequency within predefined limits. Simulation results convincingly establish the superiority of the proposed controller over other counterparts. Furthermore, the controller's robustness is rigorously tested under ± 25% variations in specific IUMG parameters, affirming its resilience. Statistical analyses reinforce the robust performance of the COA-based 1PD-3DOF-PID control method. The shared energy storage system is recognized as a promising business model for the coordinated operation of integrated energy systems (IES) to improve the utilization of energy storage and the consumption of renewable energy. As the hydrogen energy gradually receives more attention, this paper constructs the structure of a hybrid hydrogen energy storage system shared by an IES alliance in a dynamic pricing mode. A bi-level optimization model for the shared hybrid hydrogen energy storage system (SHHESS) is proposed to optimize the capacity configuration decisions and the pricing strategy jointly. The upper level determines the capacity and dynamic price of SHHESS with maximum profits and the lower level obtains the optimal operation of the IES alliance minimizing the total operation costs. The proposed model is solved by an improved PSO-GA algorithm and CPLEX solver. Finally, numerical tests are conducted in different scenarios. The results show that the hybrid energy storage system improves the daily profits of SHHESS by 70.3% and 5.44%, and reduces the renewable energy curtailment by 80.93% and 48.92% respectively compared to the battery-only and hydrogen-only systems. Additionally, the daily operation cost of the IES alliance is 35.2% lower than the individual operation scenario. With the global pursuit of renewable energy and carbon neutrality, hydrogen-based microgrids have also become an important area of research, as ensuring proper design and operation is essential to achieve optimal performance from hybrid systems. This paper proposes a distributed control strategy based on multiagent self-triggered model predictive control (ST-MPC), with the aim of achieving demand-side control of hydrogen-based microgrid systems. This architecture considers a hybrid energy storage system with renewable energy as the main power source, supplemented by fuel cells based on electrolytic hydrogen. The primary objective of this architecture is aiming at the supply and demand balance problem under the supply and demand relationship of microgrid, the service life of hydrogen-based microgrid energy storage equipment can be increased on the basis of realizing demand-side control of hydrogen energy microgrid system. To accomplish this, model predictive controllers are implemented within a self-triggered framework that dynamically adjusts the counting period. The simulation results demonstrate that the ST-MPC architecture significantly reduces the frequency of control action changes while maintaining an acceptable level of set-point tracking. The power industry is currently undergoing a rapid transformation toward the maximum utilization of renewable energy resources. In grid-connected renewable energy systems, enhancing the voltage stability during the fluctuations in renewable energy outputs can be achieved using a transformer with built-in on-load tap changing. It is one of the main traditional voltage regulation techniques utilized to improve the voltage profile in the power grid. Due to the unpredictable nature of renewable energy penetration, the frequent operation of an on-load tap changer (OLTC) may increase significantly. Despite the proposed methods used to optimize the location and size of renewable generation, there is a lack of empirical or detailed studies that have been looking at the issue of tap changers, mainly the impact of renewable energy storage allocation. The main aim of this paper is to find a compromise approach to mitigate unnecessary tap-changing operation time by wisely siting and sizing the renewable energy storage system (RESS). Initially, a generalized method is proposed to formulate an analytical optimization framework coupled with a renewable storage index. This approach is employed to evaluate the behavior of OLTC in a grid-connected renewable energy system. The formulation is then used to model a decision-making approach to confirm the location and size of RESS, using the analytic network process (ANP) with entropy and technique for order of preference by similarity to an ideal solution (TOPSIS). The performance of the proposed approach is evaluated and compared using the IEEE benchmark networks. The massive grid integration of renewable energy necessitates frequent and rapid response of hydropower output, which has brought enormous challenges to the hydropower operation and new opportunities for hydropower development. To investigate feasible solutions for complementary systems to cope with the energy transition in the context of the constantly changing role of the hydropower plant and the rapid evolution of wind and solar power, the short-term coordinated scheduling model is developed for the wind–solar–hydro hybrid pumped storage (WSHPS) system with peak shaving operation. The effects of different reservoir inflow conditions, different wind and solar power forecast output, and installed capacity of pumping station on the performance of WSHPS system are analyzed. The results show that compared with the wind–solar–hydro hybrid (WSH) system, the total power generation of the WSHPS system in the dry, normal, and wet year increased by 10.69%, 11.40%, and 11.27% respectively. The solar curtailment decreased by 68.97%, 61.61%, and 48.43%, respectively, and the wind curtailment decreased by 76.14%, 58.48%, and 50.91%, respectively. The high proportion of wind and solar energy connected to the grid in summer leads to large net load fluctuations and serious energy curtailment. The increase in the installed capacity of the pumping station will promote the consumption of wind and solar energy in the WSHPS system. The model proposed in this paper can improve the operational flexibility of hydropower station and promote the consumption of wind and solar energy, which provides a reference for the research of cascade hydropower energy storage system. This paper looks at the changing impact of renewable energy and green innovation on the carbon footprint of eight MENA nations between 2000 and 2020. We investigate this by using the panel Q-ARDL model for the first time, and we find that, with various impacts across different quantiles, a rise in green innovation and renewable energy greatly boosts environmental sustainability in the short run. In the long run, this effect becomes increasingly more noticeable. According to our analysis, the chosen MENA countries quickly embraced energy storage, solar hydrogen, and other technology pathways to diversify their energy mix, which was a turning point in the fight against climate change. Although these factors have been separately examined in different studies, our research merges them into a single non-parametric model. This research is significant as it provides empirical evidence on the efficiency of green innovation and renewable energy policies, and it will guide policymakers and energy stakeholders in developing strategies to achieve sustainable development goals. The green energy transition calls for various solutions to enhance environmental sustainability. One of these is represented by renewable energy communities, which may help transition from centralized energy production to distributed renewable generation. European countries are actively promoting incentive schemes for energy communities to foster local electricity self-consumption in order to balance demand and renewable generation. In this context, energy storage facilities can be employed to gather the energy production surplus and use it in periods of low generation. In this paper, we focus on the optimal operation of an incentive-based energy community in the presence of energy storage systems. A centralized optimization problem was formulated to optimally operate storage systems at the community level. Starting from this solution, distributed charging/discharging commands were found to optimally operate the single storage units. Moreover, conditions guaranteeing the convenience of using energy storage systems inside the community were derived. This paper investigates grid export constraints applicable to photovoltaic (PV) and wind farm (WF) installations, both with and without behind-the-meter storage, aimed at enhancing grid hosting capacity. The study focuses on static output power limitations, i.e., simple export constraints that are preventively imposed on renewable energy source (RES) plants regardless of the prevailing network congestion conditions. These constraints are easy to apply, implemented ex ante and out of market, and do not require additional investments in energy storage or advanced devices. They also yield a measurable increase in hosting capacity and grid utilization, with their impact on RES plant operation and return of investment straightforwardly calculable. Analysis defines the level and shape of these constraints assuming an indicative acceptable curtailment level of 5% for each RES technology attributed to the preventing action of the imposed limitations, while the respective implications for RES energy yield and investment viability are explored. The findings indicate that an export power limitation of ca. 68% is effective for stand-alone PVs, while a stepwise static limitation is necessary for stand-alone WFs and WFs with integrated storage to manage midday solar generation peaks. The increasing penetration of renewable energy sources (RESs) in transmission and distribution systems presents several challenges for grid operators. In particular, the unpredictable behavior of RESs can disrupt the balance between energy production and load demand, potentially affecting the stability of the entire system. Grid-connected energy storage systems (ESSs) offer a possible solution to manage the uncertainty associated with RESs. In fact, ESSs exchange power with the grid through the adoption of suitable energy management strategies, which are typically implemented by power electronics-based grid interfaces. Unlike other current source converter (CSC) solutions described in the literature, which only interface with a single energy storage device, this paper introduces a novel topology for a three-phase delta-type current source converter (D-CSC), which is capable of integrating three independent ESSs using the same number of semiconductors as traditional CSC solutions. Thus, it considerably enhances the flexibility of a power conversion system (PCS) without increasing the number of converter components. In addition, an innovative energy management control strategy is also introduced. This strategy enables the D-CSC to compensate for energy imbalances arising between the three ESSs, which might be caused by several factors, such as different aging characteristics, converter component tolerances, operating conditions, and temperature drifts. Hence, the D-CSC-based interface is capable of proper grid operation even if the three ESSs have different characteristics, thus opening the possibility of employing this converter to integrate both first and second-life devices. First, the topology of the proposed D-CSC is introduced, followed by a detailed mathematical description of its control strategy. The proper grid operation of the D-CSC was tested under different scenarios, considering the grid integration of three independent superconducting magnetic energy storage systems in a marine vessel. Renewable energy production through electrolysis of water to obtain "green hydrogen" has gained interest as a clean energy storage option. However, integrating variable renewable energy resources into the grid poses challenges to maintaining energy balance and stability. In this paper, a hybrid energy storage system combining short-term battery energy storage system and long-term hydrogen-based energy storage system is proposed for an isolated DC microgrid with a structure similar to a hydrogen refueling station. Passivity-Based Control (IDA-PBC) is utilized for power converters regulation, ensuring global stability based on Lyapunov theory while accounting for the nonlinear characteristics of the physical system. The control strategy is designed to ensure a reliable supply of electrical energy to the loads, preserve the quality of electrical variables in the network, and secure the safe operation of system components. Additionally, to safeguard devices from overvoltage, a Sliding Mode Reference Conditioning loop (SMRC) is proposed. It intervenes only when there is a potential risk of exceeding predefined boundaries. Over the past few decades, many universities have turned to using microgrid systems because of their dependability, security, flexibility, and less reliance on the primary grid. Microgrids on campuses face challenges in the instability of power production due to meteorological conditions, as the output of renewable sources such as solar and wind power relies entirely on the weather and determining the optimal size of microgrids. Therefore, this paper comprehensively reviews the university campuses' microgrids. Some renewable energy sources, such as geothermal (GE), wind turbine (WT), and photovoltaic (PV), are compared in terms of installation costs, availability, weather conditions, efficiency, environmental impact, and maintenance. Furthermore, a description of microgrid systems and their components, including distributed generation (DG), energy storage system (ESS), and microgrid load, is presented. As a result, the most common optimization models for analyzing the performance of campus microgrids are discussed. Hybrid microgrid system configurations are introduced and compared to find the optimal configuration in terms of energy production and flexibility. Global warming increases the risk of power outages. Mine water pumping stations pump approximately 100 million m3 of water per year (2023). The cessation of mine water pumping would expose neighboring mines and lower lying areas to flooding. The pumping stations have some containment, but a prolonged shutdown could cause environmental problems. Remediation of the resulting damage would be costly and time-consuming. The combination of the problems of dewatering abandoned mines and storing energy in the form of hydrogen to ensure continuity of power supply to pumping stations has not been the subject of extensive scientific research. The purpose of this paper was to develop options for protecting mine water pumping stations against the "blackout" phenomenon and to assess their investment relevance. Six technically feasible options for the modernization of mine water pumping stations were designed and analyzed in the study. All pumping station modernization options include storage of the generated energy in the form of green hydrogen. For Q1 2024 conditions, the option with the partial retail sale of the produced hydrogen and the increased volume of produced water for treatment is recommended for implementation. Contemporary distribution networks can be seen with diverse dispatchable and non‐dispatchable energy resources. The coordinated scheduling of these dispatchable resources with non‐dispatchable resources can provide several techno‐economic and social benefits. Since battery energy storage systems (BESSs) and microturbine units are capital intensive. A thorough investigation of their coordinated scheduling on a purely economic basis will be an interesting and challenging task while considering dynamic electricity price and uncertainty of renewable power generation and load demand. This paper proposes a new methodology for optimal coordinated scheduling of BESSs and microturbine units considering existing renewable energy resources and dynamic electricity price to maximize daily profit function of the utility. In this study, a recently explored modified African buffalo optimization algorithm is employed. The key attributes of the proposed methodology are comprised of mean price‐based adaptive scheduling embedded within a decision mechanism system to maximize arbitrage benefits. Decision mechanism system keeps a track of system states as a‐priori thus guides the artificial intelligence‐based solution technique for sequential optimization. This may also reduce the computational burden of complex real‐life engineering optimization problems. Further, a novel concept of fictitious charges in coordination with BESS management algorithm is proposed to restrict the counterproductive operational management of BESSs. Energy storage plays an important role in integrating renewable energy sources and power systems, thus how to deploy growing distributed energy storage systems (DESSs) while meeting technical requirements of distribution networks is a challenging problem. This paper proposes an area-to-bus planning path with network constraints for DESSs under uncertainty. First, a distribution location marginal price (DLMP) formulation with maximum fluctuation boundaries of uncertainties is designed to select vulnerable areas exceeding voltage limits and higher line losses that occur in distribution networks. Different from simple multi-scenario power flow calculation and sensitivity analysis, DLMP with time and regional characteristics could be more intuitive to reflect line losses and voltage limits of distribution networks through price signals. After that, a two-stage stochastic robust optimization based planning method is developed to determine locations and capacities of DESSs in vulnerable areas. To make the uncertainty problem more tractable, stochastic scenarios are used to portray upper and lower boundaries of uncertainties, which avoids too-conservative decisions for robust optimization. Finally, numerical tests are implemented to testify the reasonability and validity of the proposed area-to-bus planning path under uncertainty. Compared with the DESSs planning framework without DLMP, the costs of DESSs are observably reduced with DLMP. With same budgets of uncertainty, investment costs of DESSs for the stochastic robust optimization with 30 and 50 scenarios are 3.91% and 4.45% lower than classical adaptive robust optimization (ARO). Due to the volatile nature of renewable energy sources (RES), energy storage systems (ESS) are the primary impetus for increased dependence on RES in current power networks. Because of their quick responsiveness and rapid transition from charge to discharge in less than 1 ms, batteries are necessary even in the presence of alternative storage devices. Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have demonstrated their viability as ESS for RES. Given the significance of LIBs, it was vital to correctly and effectively quantify their costs in energy systems. Most studies did not offer a true real-world assessment of these batteries' aging but instead averaged their performance indices, which vary substantially depending on the system's working circumstances such as temperature, voltage, state of charge, and current level. Failure to use precise values for each charging/discharging operation might result in disastrous judgments and future techno-economic issues. This paper provides a novel and highly accurate piecewise modeling of LIBs for each charging and discharging operation based on real-world operational conditions. This novel aging model is used for calculating hourly aging and its impact on energy costs. The musical chair algorithm (MCA) is used to determine the optimal parameters' values of the LIB's model and the appropriate size of autonomous hybrid RES. When compared to other optimization techniques, the findings of optimal parameter determination using MCA revealed an 80% reduction in convergence time and better accuracy. The novel proposed aging model of the batteries predicts a 60% cost share of the battery, meanwhile, the existing strategy predicts 51% only. As offline control photovoltaic (PV) plants are not equipped with online communication and remote control systems, they cannot adjust their power in real-time. Therefore, in a distribution network saturated with offline control PVs, the distribution system operator (DSO) should schedule the distributed energy resources (DERs) considering the uncertainty of renewable energy to prevent curtailment due to overvoltage. This paper presents a day-ahead network operation strategy using a mobile energy storage system (MESS) and offline control PVs to minimize power curtailment. The MESS model efficiently considers the transportation time and power loss of the MESS, and models various operating modes, such as the charging, discharging, idle, and moving modes. The optimization problem is formulated based on mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) considering the spatial and temporal operation constraints of MESSs and is performed using chanced constrained optimal power flow (CC-OPF). The upper limits for offline control PVs are set based on the probabilistic approach, thus mitigating overvoltage due to forecasting errors. The proposed operation strategy was tested in the IEEE 33-node distribution system coupled with a 15-node transportation system. As the global transition toward sustainable energy gains momentum, integrating electric vehicles (EVs), energy storage, and renewable energy sources has become a pivotal strategy. This paper analyses the interplay between EVs, energy storage, and renewable energy integration with Indonesia's grid as a test case. A comprehensive energy system modeling approach using PLEXOS is presented, using historical data on electricity generation, hourly demand, and renewable energy, and multiple scenarios of charging patterns and EV adoption. Through a series of scenarios, we evaluate the impact of different charging strategies and EV penetration levels on generation capacity, battery storage requirements, total system cost, renewable energy penetration, and emissions reduction. The findings reveal that optimized charging patterns and higher EV adoption rates, compared to no EVs adoption, led to substantial improvements in renewable energy utilization (+4%), emissions reduction (−12.8%), and overall system cost (−9%). While EVs contribute to reduced emissions compared to conventional vehicles, non-optimized charging behavior may lead to higher total emissions when compared to scenarios without EVs. The research also found the potential of vehicle to grid (V2G) to reduce the need for battery storage compared to zero EV (−84%), to reduce emissions significantly (−23.7%), and boost penetration of renewable energy (+10%). The use of renewable energy sources to achieve carbon neutrality is increasing. However, the uncertainty and volatility of renewable resources are causing problems in power systems. Flexible and low-carbon resources such as Energy Storage Systems (ESSs) are essential for solving the problems of power systems and achieving greenhouse gas reduction goals. However, ESSs are not being installed because of Korea's fuel-based electricity market. To address this issue, this paper presents a method for determining the optimal investment timing of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESSs) using the Least Squares Monte Carlo (LSMC) method. A case study is conducted considering the System Marginal Price (SMP) and Capacity Payment (CP), which are electricity rates in Korea. Revenue is calculated through the arbitrage of a 10 MW/40 MWh lithium-ion BESS, and linear programming optimization is performed for ESS scheduling to maximize revenue. The ESS revenue with uncertainty is modeled as a stochastic process using Geometric Brownian Motion (GBM), and the optimal time to invest in an ESS is determined using an LSMC simulation considering investment costs. This paper presents a novel method for forecasting the impact of cloud cover on photovoltaic (PV) fields in the nowcasting term, utilizing PV panels as sensors in a combination of physical and persistence models and integrating energy storage system control. To achieve a more ecologically friendly energy transition by the year 2050 under the European "green" accord, hydrogen has recently gained significant scientific interest due to its efficiency as an energy carrier. This paper focuses on large-scale hydrogen production systems based on marine renewable-energy-based wind turbines and tidal turbines. The paper reviews the different technologies of hydrogen production using water electrolyzers, energy storage unit base hydrogen vectors, and fuel cells (FC). The focus is on large-scale hydrogen production systems using marine renewable energies. This study compares electrolyzers, energy storage units, and FC technologies, with the main factors considered being cost, sustainability, and efficiency. Furthermore, a review of aging models of electrolyzers and FCs based on electrical circuit models is drawn from the literature and presented, including characterization methods of the model components and the parameters extraction methods, using a dynamic current profile. In addition, industrial projects for producing hydrogen from renewable energies that have already been completed or are now in progress are examined. The paper is concluded through a summary of recent hydrogen production and energy storage advances, as well as some applications. Perspectives on enhancing the sustainability and efficiency of hydrogen production systems are also proposed and discussed. This paper describes a new underwater pumped storage hydropower concept (U.PSH) that can store electric energy by using the high water pressure on the seabed or in deep lakes to accomplish the energy transition from fossil to renewable sources. Conventional PSH basically consists of two storage reservoirs (upper and lower lake) at different topographical heights. It needs special topographic conditions, which are only limitedly available in mountain regions. Furthermore, due to the lack of acceptance and the environmental impact, new conventional PSH projects are very unlikely to be built in larger numbers in Europe in the near future. The presented solution solves these issues by placing the storage system on the seabed, thus having other geographical requirements. It operates as follows: in contrast to well-known conventional PSH plants, which use two separated water reservoirs of different heights, the U.PSH concept uses the static pressure of the water column in deep waters by installing a hollow concrete sphere in deep water. Storage of electricity is achieved by using a reversible pump in the hollow sphere. Upon opening a valve, water flows into the sphere, driving a turbine/generator, thereby discharging the storage device. In order to re-charge, the water is pumped out of the sphere against the pressure of the surrounding water. The power and energy, respectively, are proportional to the surrounding water pressure at the seabed. The amount of energy stored depends on the water depth and the volume of the spheres. The spheres need a cable connection to the shore or to a close-by floating transformer station (e.g., an offshore wind plant). No other connections such as pipes are needed. Renewable energy systems (RESs) have played a vital role in meeting the continuously fast-rising energy demand. While RESs provide limitless and ecologically good possibilities, putting RESs in place has proven to be a challenging task due to their intermittent energy supply. Residential buildings may use energy storage, flexible loads, and renewable energy sources to reduce energy consumption and increase demand side flexibility. The flexibility of a single building can be coordinated with other facilities in a transactive energy (TE) market to reduce energy costs. In addition, cloud energy storage (CES) has been proposed to provide storage services for residential buildings with more economic benefits than individual energy storage units in recent years. Although the TE market and CES implementation have received much attention in previous works, a suitable structure for CES participation in TE market has not been addressed. In the context of renewable energy systems, microgrids (MG) are a solution to enhance the reliability of power systems. In the last few years, there has been a growing use of energy storage systems (ESSs), such as hydrogen and battery storage systems, because of their environmentally-friendly nature as power converter devices. However, their short lifespan represents a major challenge to their commercialization on a large scale. To address this issue, the control strategy proposed in this paper includes cost functions that consider the degradation of both hydrogen devices and batteries. Moreover, the proposed controller uses scenarios to reflect the stochastic nature of renewable energy resources (RESs) and load demand. The objective of this paper is to integrate a stochastic model predictive control (SMPC) strategy for an economical/environmental MG coupled with hydrogen and battery ESSs, which interacts with the main grid and external consumers. Hydrogen energy storage systems (HESS) play an essential role in Microgrid (MG) systems to address the inherent generation characteristics of renewable energy sources. Also, the integration of Demand Response (DR) into the Energy Management System (EMS) of a renewable-based Multi-Microgrid (MMG) can lead to substantial technical and economic benefits. This paper proposes a modified optimization algorithm for optimizing MMG Energy Management (EM). The proposed algorithm is a modified version of the Student Psychology-Based Optimization (SPBO) technique called Modified Student Psychology-Based Optimization (MSPBO). This modification aims to improve issues such as slow convergence, low solution accuracy, lack of diversity, and getting stuck in local optima. The proposed MSPBO method incorporates a local escape operator and a collaborative student class to achieve a better balance between exploiting known solutions and exploring new possibilities. The MSPBO algorithm is applied to address the EM challenge within a MMG context. Considering the integration of renewable sources as Wind turbines and solar photovoltaic and the HESS, the EM problem is formulated as a two-stage multi-objective optimization: minimizing the operating cost of conventional generators and power transactions cost in addition to the cost of HESS, while maximizing operator benefits and peak load reduction. This multi-objective problem is tackled using a hybrid ε-lexicography–weighted-sum approach that avoids the need for normalization. The performance of the proposed MSPBO is evaluated using CEC 2017 benchmark test functions, utilizing various statistical measures such as best, average, worst, rank, and standard deviation (SD) of fitness values, along with Wilcoxon's rank-sum test. The MSPBO technique is compared with other optimization algorithms for these test functions, highlighting its efficiency and adeptness in achieving a harmonious trade-off between exploiting known solutions and exploring new ones. Furthermore, the MSPBO method is applied to solve two case studies. In Case 1, which involves a single stage with conventional demand response optimization, the results achieved using MSPBO are benchmarked against other optimization techniques, revealing its superior efficacy in addressing the EM challenge. In Case 2, a more complex two-stage multi-objective problem is tackled using MSPBO, and the assessment of the integration of HESS in the MMG is evaluated. The increase in the share of renewable energy sources (RES) leads to a growing need for sources or systems/actions to stabilize the national energy grid. Such stabilizing actions include market tools, such as prices and demand-side response (DSR) tools, as well as flexible energy sources (e.g., gas). In addition, energy storage, where pumped storage hydroelectricity (PSH) accounts for 90% of global storage capacity, plays an important role. Therefore, the authors presented a detailed analysis of PSH in the context of the dynamic growth of installed capacity in renewable energy sources. They analyzed the economic viability of this type of power plant, with a particular emphasis on operational costs, energy production, and revenue. The Młoty case study and market data, including historical data on various PSH, were presented and analyzed. This study uses copulas, simulation, and statistical analysis. Distribution feeder reconfiguration (DFR) in distribution systems can enhance operating conditions by reducing losses and improving voltage indices. This paper introduces a dual-stage risk-based framework that concurrently tackles day-ahead reconfiguration and microgrid scheduling within the distribution network. To control the negative aspects of uncertainties, the proposed framework integrates energy storage systems (ESS/HSS) and demand response programs (DRPs) at the network level, enhancing adaptability. The initial stage of the proposed model employs the AC power flow model, utilizing loss and voltage deviation functions as objective benchmarks for network reconfiguration. The scheduling is meticulously executed per interval, deriving optimized structures under diverse scenarios with the aid of a case reduction technique (CRT) to streamline solutions. The ultimate solution employs the grey wolf optimization (GWO) algorithm and CPLEX solver in the first and second stages respectively. Outcomes from applying this approach to the adjusted 118-bus network manifest improved operational conditions and voltage quality through reconfiguration. Impressively, the integration of ESS/HSS and DRPs yields a substantial 22.34% reduction in total operating costs, a conclusion substantiated by the numerical findings. Furthermore, by leveraging the CRT, a remarkable 56.17% reduction in problem-solution time is achieved. With the continuous increase in global energy demand and growing environmental awareness, the utilization of renewable energy has become a worldwide consensus. In order to address the challenges posed by the intermittent and unpredictable nature of renewable energy in distributed power distribution networks, as well as to improve the economic and operational stability of distribution systems, this paper proposes the establishment of an active distribution network capable of accommodating renewable energy. The objective is to enhance the efficiency of new energy utilization. This study investigates optimal scheduling models for energy storage technologies and economic-operation dispatching techniques in distributed power distribution networks. Additionally, it develops a comprehensive demand response model, with real-time pricing and incentive policies aiming to minimize load peak–valley differentials. The control mechanism incorporates time-of-use pricing and integrates a chaos particle swarm algorithm for a holistic approach to solution finding. By coordinating and optimizing the control of distributed power sources, energy storage systems, and flexible loads, the active distribution network achieves minimal operational costs while meeting demand-side power requirements, striving to smooth out load curves as much as possible. Case studies demonstrate significant enhancements during off-peak periods, with an approximately 60% increase in the load power overall elevation of load factors during regular periods, as well as a reduction in grid loads during evening peak hours, with a maximum decrease of nearly 65 kW. With the increasing expansion of power systems, there is a growing trend towards active distribution networks for decentralized power generation and energy management. However, the instability of distributed renewable energy introduces complexity to power system operation. The active symmetry and balance of power systems are becoming increasingly important. This paper focuses on the characteristics of distributed resources and under-frequency load shedding, and a coordinated operation and control strategy based on the rapid adjustment of energy storage power is proposed. The characteristics of various controllable resources are analyzed to explore the rapid response capabilities of energy storage. The energy storage types are categorized based on the support time, and the final decision is achieved with power allocation and adjustment control of the energy storage system. Additionally, a comprehensive control strategy for under-frequency load shedding and hierarchical systems is provided for scenarios with insufficient active support. Demand-side flexible load resources, such as Electric Vehicles (EVs) and Air Conditioners (ACs), offer significant potential for enhancing flexibility in the power system, thereby promoting the full integration of renewable energy. To this end, this paper proposes an optimal allocation method for demand-side flexible resources to enhance renewable energy consumption. Firstly, the adjustable flexibility of these resources is modeled based on the generalized energy storage model. Secondly, we generate random scenarios for wind, solar, and load, considering variable correlations based on non-parametric probability predictions of random variables combined with Copula function sampling. Next, we establish the optimal allocation model for demand-side flexible resources, considering the simulated operation of these random scenarios. Finally, we optimize the demand-side resource transformation plan year by year based on the growth trend forecast results of renewable energy installed capacity in Jiangsu Province from 2025 to 2031. Nowadays, renewable energy sources are integral to programs for the development of electric power systems. It is established that modern renewable generation units and energy storage systems utilize power electronic-based interfaces, such as voltage source converters, to convert power. On the one hand, the utilization of a voltage source converter provides certain advantages, such as the absence of a direct link to the network, the ability to operate on all quadrants of the PQ diagram, and the possibility of connecting renewable generation units to a weak network. On the other hand, the widespread use of renewable generation units utilizing voltage source converters reduces the overall inertia of the electric power system. However, excessive use of power electronic converters in the network leads to a significant increase in harmonic pollution, thereby introducing fresh challenges to ensuring safe and stable operation of the electric power system. Currently, the global energy revolution in the direction of green and low-carbon technologies is flourishing. The large-scale integration of renewable energy into the grid has led to significant fluctuations in the net load of the power system. To meet the energy balance requirements of the power system, the pressure on conventional power generation units to adjust and regulate has increased. The efficient utilization of the regulation capability of controllable industrial loads and energy storage can achieve the similarity between renewable energy curves and load curves, thereby reducing the peak-to-valley difference and volatility of the net load. This approach also decreases the adjustment pressure on conventional generating units. Therefore, this paper proposes a two-stage optimization scheduling strategy considering the similarity between renewable energy and load, including energy storage and industrial load participation. The combination of the Euclidean distance, which measures the similarity between the magnitude of renewable energy–load curves, and the load tracking coefficient, which measures the similarity in curve shape, is used to measure the similarity between renewable energy and load profiles. This measurement method is introduced into the source-load-storage optimal scheduling to establish a two-stage optimization model. In the first stage, the model is set up to maximize the similarity between renewable energy and the load profile and minimize the cost of energy storage and industrial load regulation to obtain the desired load curve and new energy output curve. In the second stage, the model is set up to minimize the overall operation cost by considering the costs associated with abandoning the new energy sources and shedding loads to optimize the output of conventional generator sets. Through a case analysis, it is verified that the proposed scheduling strategy can achieve the tracking of the load curve to the new energy curve, reducing the peak-to-valley difference of the net load curve by 48.52% and the fluctuation by 67.54% compared to the original curve. These improvements effectively enhance the net load curve and reduce the difficulty in regulating conventional power generation units. Furthermore, the strategy achieves the full discard of renewable energy and reduces the system operating costs by 4.19%, effectively promoting the discard of renewable energy and reducing the system operating costs. Renewable energy sources (RES) are becoming more popular globally as a reaction to critical energy concerns. Modern energy management technologies are used to maximize their efficiency while preserving the reliability of the grid. A hybrid energy storage system (HESS) connects to the DC microgrid through the bidirectional converter, allowing energy to be transferred among the battery and supercapacitor (SC). In this paper, a fuzzy logic control (FLC) technique is developed for PV-based DC microgrid systems that use both batteries and SCs. The proposed method uses the unbalanced energy from the battery pack to enhance the overall effectiveness of the HESS. The FLC approach is performed to validate under conditions of variable irradiance using MATLAB Simulink. When sudden changes in irradiance occur, the proposed FLC brings the voltage back to the desired level in terms of transient response like 33 ms settling times and 19% overshoot values. The results exhibit that the proposed method is more efficient in terms of time response, power output, increasing battery life, and ensuring a continuous supply of the PV system. With increasing concerns about climate change, there is a transition from high-carbon-emitting fuels to green energy resources in various applications including household, commercial, transportation, and electric grid applications. Even though renewable energy resources are receiving traction for being carbon-neutral, their availability is intermittent. To address this issue to achieve extensive application, the integration of energy storage systems in conjunction with these resources is becoming a recommended practice. Additionally, in the transportation sector, the increased demand for EVs requires the development of energy storage systems that can deliver energy for rigorous driving cycles, with lithium-ion-based batteries emerging as the superior choice for energy storage due to their high power and energy densities, length of their life cycle, low self-discharge rates, and reasonable cost. As a result, battery energy storage systems (BESSs) are becoming a primary energy storage system. The high-performance demand on these BESS can have severe negative effects on their internal operations such as heating and catching on fire when operating in overcharge or undercharge states. Reduced efficiency and poor charge storage result in the battery operating at higher temperatures. To mitigate early battery degradation, battery management systems (BMSs) have been devised to enhance battery life and ensure normal operation under safe operating conditions. Some BMSs are capable of determining precise state estimations to ensure safe battery operation and reduce hazards. Precise estimation of battery health is computed by evaluating several metrics and is a central factor in effective battery management systems. In this scenario, the accurate estimation of the health indicators (HIs) of the battery becomes even more important within the framework of a BMS. In recent years, there has been increasing interest in integrating the smart grid concept into railway networks, which has been driven by the need to enhance energy efficiency and reduce air pollution in such energy-intensive systems. Consequently, experts have actively sought innovative solutions with which to tackle these challenges. One promising strategy involves integrating renewable energy sources (RESs), energy storage systems (ESSs), and electric vehicle charging stations (EVCSs) into current electric railway systems (ERSs). This study begins by examining the concept of implementing smart grids in railway systems through bibliometric analysis. It then delves into the realization of a hybrid railway microgrid (H-RMG) designed to enhance power flow capacities, improve energy efficiency, and address power quality issues in traditional AC railway networks. This paper introduces various future AC–DC-coupled hybrid railway microgrid (ADH-RMG) architectures centered around a shared DC bus acting as a DC hub for upgrading conventional AC railway systems utilizing interfacing static converters. Through an exploration of different possible ADH-RMG configurations, this research aims to offer valuable insights and a roadmap for the modernization and reconstruction of existing railway networks using smart grid technologies.
