The present study aims to identify the most productive countries, journals, authors, institutions and the most used keywords in the field of special education during 2011-2020, based on the WoS database. The widespread effects of the papers and how they are related were analyzed with the bibliometric analysis method. The findings of the study showed that the USA is inarguably the most productive country, followed by England and Australia. On the other hand, there was a very strong positive correlation (r = 0.929) between the number of papers published by countries and their h-index, a similar finding was also found to be present between the countries' h-index and GDP per capita (r = 0.790). Moreover, it was found that the journals with the highest quartile (Q1 and Q2) in the field of special education published significantly more papers than the journals with the lowest quartile (Q3 and Q4). Matson, JL (USA), Sigafoos, J (New Zealand) and Lancioni, GE (Italy) were determined as the most prolific authors, respectively. Autism, intellectual disability, and Down syndrome were the phrases most frequently used as keywords. Our findings provide key information regarding the developments that the research direction of special education field has recently taken. This study also serves a potential roadmap for future studies.

As humanity reaches the 5.0 industrial revolution, education plays a critical role in boosting the quality of human resources. This paper reports bibliometric research on emerging TiP during 1993-2022 in the educational field to analyse its development on any level of education during the last three decades. This study employed a Scopus database. The findings are that the trend of TiP publication in educational fields has tended to increase every year during the past three decades and conference paper became the most published document type, the USA is the country which produces the most publications; "Students" being the most occurrences keyword and total link strength. The publication of the TiP is ranked to the Quartile 1, which implies that a publication with the cited performance is a publication with credibility because the publisher has a good reputation. Researchers can find the topics most relevant to other metadata sources such as Web of Science, Publish, and Perish.

The higher education efficiency evaluation model using the data envelopment analysis method has interested many researchers. This paper uses bibliometric analysis on publications extracted from the Scopus database to provide a comprehensive overview of research publications on the measurement of higher education efficiency based on data envelopment analysis: its growth rate, major collaboration networks, the most important and popular research topic. A total of 169 related publications were collected and analyzed from 1988 to 2021. The analysis results show that: Publications published every year have increased sharply in the last six years; The quality of publications is relatively high as publications tend to be published in journals with high-ranking indexes; Countries with the most influence in studies on this topic are: Italy, China, Spain, the USA, and the United Kingdom; Authors with the most influence in this research direction are Agasisti T., Abbott M., Doucouliagos C., Avkiran N.K., and Johnes J.; The research cooperation among countries and among affiliations is not strong. Finally, the paper has provided recommendations for future studies based on the findings.

Background The Florida Keys Mosquito Control District has used dry ice-baited light traps to monitor mosquito populations on Key Largo since 2003. This paper describes the methodology of trapping, the habitat and the dataset of adult mosquito populations from 18 years of weekly monitoring from a single site on Key Largo, Monroe County, FL, USA. New information This data paper provides previously unpublished data from a single trapping location in Key Largo, Florida. This paper provides a citation network analysis of the publications in "Studies in Higher Education" from 1976 to 2013 inclusive. This represents the entire history of the journal to date. It analyses the most published authors, most cited authors and most discussed topics using keywords. 1056 articles were taken from Web of Science[superscript SM] as a source of primary data. These articles were determined to have 32,738 references. A small percentage of these articles, 218 articles, had 1030 keywords. A data visualisation and manipulation software, Gephi, was used to provide a visual representation of the associated citation networks. We compare the results with other higher education citation analyses published elsewhere--a small, but growing area of research. Results indicate that the five most published authors throughout the journal's history are Richardson, Kember, Becher, Boud and Elton. The five most cited authors are Entwistle, Marton, Ramsden, Biggs and Becher. The five most discussed topics, using keywords, excluding higher education, are "doctoral education", "assessment", "phenomenography", "student learning" and "identity", with a number of subordinate topic clusters amongst these. Results derived from this exercise are helpful in illuminating the evolving concerns of the journal and its readership, and providing a demonstration of a rigorous analytical technique for assessing journal citation data in the future.

This article compares three self-developed subject guides and one commercial online subject guide (LibGuides) to provide information to other institutions which have a plan or are in the process of developing a plan to implement similar services to support online, distance and traditional education. This is a comparison of the current subject guides in use by three separate academic institutions: Murray State University, North Carolina State University, and The Ohio State University. This paper examines the creation and use of dynamic subject guides as a result of collaboration among departments: reference, systems, and campus information technology, through an examination of related articles. Purpose: What kinds of online cultural heritage exhibitions are now available on the internet? How far have these cultural heritage institutions voyaged in terms of harnessing the power of information and communication technology and the interactivity of multimedia systems to exhibit cultural heritage resources? This study aims to highlight the major initiatives and developments across libraries, archives and museums, and to provide an overview of the characteristics and features of current major initiatives--specifically of the objectives and purposes of the exhibitions, their contents, the available information retrieval (search and browse facilities) and interactive features. Design/methodology/approach: Reports the findings of a personal investigation of 15 online exhibitions, conducted between February and June 2004. Findings: A number of key characteristics of the information retrieval features of the surveyed online exhibition sites are identified. Research limitations/implications: This is by no means a comprehensive or all-inclusive survey of all relevant initiatives. It is meant to be an exploratory study of the current landscape and architecture of major cultural heritage online exhibitions available on the web. Changes in the online exhibitions after June 2004 are not reflected in this paper. Originality/value: Based on the findings of this survey, major areas of research that would improve the features of online exhibition systems are indicated. (Contains 5 tables.)

This study aimed to explore the evolution tracks of occupational low back pain (OLBP) studies during 2000 ∼ 2020 through strict and systematic bibliometric analysis. The analysis began with data retrieval in Web of Science using defined search terms associated with OLBP. Bibliometric tools, including BibExcel and CiteSpace, were employed to conduct performance analysis and co-citation network analysis. Totally, 4,127 documents were identified from 2000 to 2020. The United States contributed the most publications. The leading journals mainly focused on medicine and ergonomics. The co-citation analysis illuminated the development of OLBP studies and the top three published keywords were musculoskeletal disorder, risk factors, and fear avoidance. This paper can help researchers have a broader and deeper understanding of OLBP studies, provide a general insight into aggregate performance in the OLBP field, and find further research directions. Purpose - Two graduate LIS students interested in archival studies describe their first effort processing a manuscript collection belonging to Marlon D. Green, the first African American commercial airline pilot in the US. Design/methodology/approach - The students locate introductory readings and seek the advice of professional archivists to organize the collection and write a finding aid that describes its contents. The novice archivists explore issues of appraisal, arrangement, description and preservation of items in the collection, and discuss the challenges archivists face in organizing collections objectively. Findings - The students find organizing a manuscript collection to be a surprisingly collaborative and social process. Learning about Marlon Green's life directly from his family members gives the student archivists the advantage of knowing the context of his papers, which helps them order and group items more effectively. Practical implications - Archivists will benefit from researching a collection's subject thoroughly at the beginning of the process. Collaborating with other archivists on processing collections may help archivists test and hone their methods and achieve greater consistency. The paper is an informal case study about organizing a manuscript collection or collection of family papers. Originality/value -The discussion of an archivist's role may be useful to novice and student archivists or LIS professionals who have in their care a collection of papers that must be organized and described. A highlight of the 2012 ASIS&T Annual Meeting, the pre-conference session on the History of ASIS&T and Information Science and Technology Worldwide drew presenters and attendees from around the globe. The day featured papers on four historical themes, starting with the institutional roots of ASIS&T and recognizing decades of research presented in the Annual Review of Information Science and Technology. The evolution of the field was apparent through a review of information revolutions prompted by the printing press, the post-World War II information crisis and the Internet, as well as through presentations on digital curation,ongoing work on relevance, sense-making theory and developments from Croatia to France.Discussion of the historical contexts of technology innovations and impacts consideredphotographic documentary techniques, binary computing and networking standards. The development of foundational ideas was explored through presentations on pioneering document indexing methods, the semantic challenge of term-oriented retrieval, early European perceptions of classification systems and the French view of communication and information science. Current specifications for facility handover information require contractors to produce and deliver a set of documents that provide little practical value to the facility manager. Facility managers begin their duties by rekeying the information found in these handover documents. This paper describes the facility management handover (FM) model view definition (MVD), an open-standard information exchange format that may replace current construction handover document requirements. The work was accomplished in conjunction with three buildingSMART chapters to ensure the widest possible international acceptance. The specification of the underlying industry foundation class (IFC) model with required business rules for use in the United States is called the construction-operations building information exchange (COBie) format. This paper investigates aspects of the urban hierarchy and concentration of patent sub-categories in United States metropolitan areas by estimating Zipf, Gini and Moran's I coefficients. Results do not support a power law depiction of the location of disaggregate patenting in the entire metropolitan system. The most concentrated and hierarchical patent technologies are computer hardware and software, computer peripherals, information storage, communications, surgery and medical instruments, nuclear and x-rays, semiconductor devices, optics and organic compounds. Technologies are cross-classified, which reveals aspects of variety in locational patterns and offers clues into systems of knowledge exchange in urban-based technological advance. Resumen Este artículo investiga los aspectos de la jerarquía urbana y la concentración de subcategorías de patentes en áreas metropolitanas de los Estados Unidos, mediante la estimación de los coeficientes de Zipf, Gini, y la I de Moran. Los resultados no siguen una ley de potencias para la localización de patentes desagregadas en la totalidad del sistema metropolitano. Las tecnologías de patentes más concentradas y jerárquicas son las de hardware y software, periféricos informáticos, almacenamiento de información, comunicaciones, cirugía e instrumentos médicos, radiología (rayos X, nuclear), dispositivos semiconductores, óptica y compuestos orgánicos. Purpose -- The purpose of this paper is to examine current databases available for manufacturing engineering and summarizes their relevance. Design/methodology/approach -- To promote research in manufacturing engineering, comprehensive literature should be made accessible through relevant databases. Databases not only provide information on global research but aid in assessing the impacts of research and identify promising research directions. The databases are presented in eight sections according to the type of document being sought. Findings -- The manufacturing engineering literature is robust; there are excellent products available to support this highly technical field, The databases found are from many different sources: commercial publishers, professional organizations, national and international agencies, and collaborative endeavors. Research limitations/implications -- Sources found originate mainly from the USA and Europe. Originality/value -- This paper demonstrates the importance of literature mining in manufacturing engineering which is ingrained in the processes to designing, developing and producing goods and services. Background. The growing availability of electronic data offers practitioners increased opportunities for reusing clinical data for research and quality improvement. However, relatively little is known about what clinical data practitioners keep on their computers regarding patients. Methods. The authors conducted a Web-based survey of 991 U.S. and Scandinavian practitioner-investigators (P-Is) in The Dental Practice-Based Research Network to determine the extent of their use of computers to manage clinical information; the type of patient information they kept on paper, a computer or both; and their willingness to reuse electronic dental record (EDR) data for research. Results. A total of 729 (73.6 percent) of 991 P-Is responded. A total of 73.8 percent of U.S. solo practitioners and 78.7 percent of group practitioners used a computer to manage some patient information, and 14.3 percent and 15.9 percent, respectively, managed all patient information on a computer. U.S. practitioners stored appointments, treatment plans, completed treatment and images electronically most frequently, and the periodontal charting, diagnosis, medical history, progress notes and the chief complaint least frequently. More than 90 percent of Scandinavian practitioners stored all information electronically. A total of 50.8 percent of all P-Is were willing to reuse EDR data for research, and 63.1 percent preferred electronic forms for data collection. Conclusion. The results of this study show that the trend toward increased adoption of EDRs in the United States is continuing, potentially making more data in electronic form available for research. Participants appear to be willing to reuse EDR data for research and to collect data electronically. Clinical Implications. Purpose -- The purpose of this paper is to identify, describe and locate primary resources using government publications and non-government publications. Design/methodology/approach -- This paper examines primary resources for historical research particularly in federal government publications distributed through the Federal Depository Library Program. Findings -- The paper finds that government publications provide a rich source of primary research materials for postsecondary research in disciplines such as history, geography, ethnography, education and agriculture. Originality/value -- Searching for primary historical resources in small- to medium-sized academic libraries can often yield a limited field of resources. Federal government publications distributed through the Government Printing Office are freely available via selective and regional Federal Depository Libraries. Purpose — This paper seeks to highlight the recent open access initiatives of Harvard University and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Design/methodology/approach — The paper discusses opportunities and consequences of the recent initiatives. Findings — The paper finds that the NIH open access policy will make available tens of thousands of peer-reviewed articles per year. The Harvard open access initiative may be a harbinger of things to come at other US universities. This 'country study' analyses substantial samples of research papers by Brazilian authors drawn from two global databases. The approach and the findings may each be of interest. Our approach is to examine R&D outputs through bibliometrics (to identify key authors, institutions, journals, etc.) and text mining with taxonomy generation (to identify pervasive research thrusts). We extend prior country studies by providing for interactive data access and exploring military-relevant R&D information. The resulting publication activity profiles provide insight on Brazilian R&D strengths and investment strategies, and help identify opportunities for collaboration. Brazil, a nation of 190 million, evidences a substantial research enterprise, with major capabilities in the life and biomedical sciences, as well as the physical sciences. The article focuses on the recent advances in biotechnology. It cites that the advances in the biotechnology have changed the key nature of biological researches. It relates that scientists in the past used paper notebooks or simple spreadsheets to document their experiments, but at present, scientists use various new tools such as gene chips or measuring gene expression or sequence variation that brought changes and has altered their works and reveals potential associations and interactions with a variety of genes and other biological entities. It also mentions that the advances in biotechnology brought a massive increase in the scientific knowledge of scientists. This paper describes an investigation into whether institutional repositories at member libraries of the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) provide publicly available metadata documentation via the repositories' websites. The study compares the results of a September 2017 survey with findings from a review of ARL institutional repository websites. Slightly more than half of ARL institutional repositories do provide metadata documentation. Implications of the results are discussed, including specific research questions for moving forward. This study applies Kuhlthau's Information Search Process stage (ISP) model to understand bilingual users' Internet search experience. We conduct a quasi‐field experiment with 30 bilingual searchers and the results suggested that the ISP model was applicable in studying searchers' information retrieval behavior in search tasks. The ISP model was applicable in studying searchers' information retrieval behavior in simple tasks. However, searchers' emotional responses differed from those of the ISP model for a complex task. By testing searchers using different search strategies, the results suggested that search engines with multilanguage search functions provide an advantage for bilingual searchers in the Internet's multilingual environment. The findings showed that when searchers used a search engine as a tool for problem solving, they might experience different feelings in each ISP stage than in searching for information for a term paper using a library. Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to describe the history of KU ScholarWorks, the University of Kansas' institutional repository, and the various strategies used to promote and populate it. Design/methodology/approach - This paper describes how KU ScholarWorks came into being, and discusses the variety of activities employed to publicize the repository and encourage faculty to deposit their work. In addition, the paper discusses some of the concerns expressed by faculty members, and some of the obstacles encountered in getting them to use the repository. The paper concludes with some observations about KU's efforts, an assessment of the success of the program to date, and suggests some next steps the program may take. Findings - The paper found that KU ScholarWorks has relied on a "self-archiving" model, which requires regular communication with faculty and long-term community building. Repository content continues to grow at a steady pace, but uptake among faculty has been slow. In the absence of mandates requiring faculty to deposit work, organizations running institutional repositories must continue to aggressively pursue a variety of strategies to promote repositories to faculty and encourage them to deposit their scholarship. Originality/value - KU's experience will help other institutions develop institutional repositories by providing examples of marketing strategies, and by promoting a greater understanding of faculty behavior and concerns with regard to institutional repositories. This article presents updates on issues concerning information science as of December 2003. The Libraries in the Digital Age (LIDA) conference will be held in Croatia on May 25 to 29, 2004. The general aim of LIDA is to address the changing and challenging environment for libraries and information systems and services in the digital world, with emphasis on the examination of contemporary problems, advances and solutions. Another conference on information science titled, Second International Conference on the Future of the Book, will also be held in China on August 29 to 31, 2004. The conference will discuss topics such as the effects of print on demand and ebooks, the future of the book from a library perspective, emerging standards for electronic and printed books and strategies to enhance the viability of the publishing industry. In other news, the Institute of the Museum and Library Services in Tallahassee, Florida announced the award of a project grant to the School of Information Studies at Florida State University. Meanwhile, the University of Iowa Libraries and School of Library Information Science have received a grant that will help recruit and train a new generation of librarians.

JSTOR has become a standard offering at most U.S. universities and colleges, as well as a growing number of higher education institutions outside the U.S. This paper will track the growth of JSTOR since its inception in 1995 as an experimental digitization project to today as an archive of over 500 scholarly titles in 40 disciplines. We will consider the two threads of JSTOR's mission—to safeguard titles in a digital form, and to provide access to them as broadly as possible—and assess the value the project has provided to the academic community. The principal purpose of the operation has been to secure dependable figures on costs. "Article Bibliography," is a 3-volume, 4500 page bibliography, listing or summarizing more than 20,000 scientific papers and reports pertaining to the Arctic, and also official documents, books of exploration, and general magazine articles. "Machine Translation," discusses the present state of research on machine translation in the U.S. The present outlook is that fully automatic translation seems out of the question in the near future; it would require storage capacities of trillions of bits of information or the invention of programming techniques that could greatly increase the machine's efficiency by learning, or some combination of these two factors

Background: This study aims to conduct a scientometric analysis and thematically-based narrative review of a century of Taraxacum officinale research (TOR), uncovering patterns, trends, themes, and advancements in the field to provide insights for future investigations. The study followed PRISMA guidelines and utilized the Scopus database with MeSH terms for bibliographic data retrieval. Scientometric mapping employed VOSviewer and R-package-based Bibliometrix, while extracted themes were reviewed narratively. A detailed analysis of TOR was achieved by including only original studies. Results: The findings include the extensive duration of TOR since 1908 and its significant growth, particularly in the last two decades. China emerges as the most productive country, but the United States leads in recognizable and collaborative TOR. The thematic map displays dynamic and diverse themes, with a rich knowledge structure revealed through the analysis of term co-occurrence. The year 2016 represents a turning point in the thematic map, marked by numerical growth and thematic bifurcation. The study extracted several main research topics within the field of TOR, including germination, antioxidant activity, bioherbicide, oxidative stress, Taraxacum kok-saghyz, and heavy metals. These topics represent key areas of investigation and provide insights into the diverse aspects of research surrounding T. officinale. Additionally, emerging topics in TOR encompass toxicity, metabolomics, dandelion extract, and diabetes mellitus. Conclusions: The study consolidated knowledge, highlighted research gaps, and provided directions for future investigations on TOR. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SIG/USE celebrated members' work and achievements in research methods at the 2012 ASIS&T Annual Meeting through a keynote speech, brief talks and awards. In her opening talk, professor Lisa Given challenged attendees to expand research methods to engage participants more fully, include qualitative findings and explore information behavior in nontraditional media. The topics of two-minute lightning talks ranged from research techniques for exploring young people's information behavior to imaging brain activity related to relevance decisions. Others addressed incorporating mobile technologies in research, collaborative search, direct interaction with participants in contrast with background server log checks and working with data collections from social Q&A sites. Following the talks, small group discussions further explored topics such as cognitive approaches, content analysis and text analytics and usability. The symposium wound to a close with the 2011 Elfreda A. Chatman Research Award presentation on information strategies of the homeless and a preview of the 2012 proposed study on refugees' information seeking. Additional awards were presented for best paper and poster to support travel and further presentations. Purpose -- The purpose of this paper is to describe the work of the Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI) in the US Department of Energy Office of Science and OSTI's development of the powerful search engine, WorldWideScience.org. With tools such as Science.gov and WorldWideScience.org, the patron gains access to multiple, geographically dispersed deep web databases and can search all of the constituent sources with a single query. Design/methodology/approach -- The paper is both historical and descriptive. Findings -- That WorldWideScience.org fills a unique niche in discovering scientific material in an information landscape that includes search engines such as Google and Google Scholar. Originality/value -- This is one of the few papers to describe in depth the important work being done by the US Office of Scientific and Technical Information in the field of search and discovery. Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to illustrate issues surrounding the Google Book settlement in 2009, and its relevance to libraries by general discussion and examples from library practice. Design/methodology/approach – A set of projections and speculations that are both conceptual and practical in nature, based on early reactions and comments about this development. Findings – There are many philosophical and moral objections to the consequences of the Google Book settlement, and that the practical effects for academic libraries could be both positive and/or negative. The practical examples of such outcomes are designed to help clarify the implications for library and information practitioners and generate further debate. Research limitations/implications – The fact that the Book settlement is a legal arrangement between parties in a civil court makes in depth research analysis of a public nature very difficult – which is in itself one of the main themes of the paper. Practical implications – The teasing out of the real-life consequences of the settlement are intended be helpful to the library practitioner. Originality/value – This paper tries to offer an early insight into an important new development in information retrieval history from the point of view of academic librarians, in contrast to much contemporary comment, which has come from authors and rights holders. Purpose -- This paper Seeks to show that information acquired by owners of small firms from certain sources helps the firms to be competitive. Design/methodology/approach -- Data for this study were collected by mail from small business owners in three rural counties in West Texas. Findings -- Knowledge acquired by owners of small firms from colleagues, salespeople, trade publication family members, seminars, and social contacts is significantly associated with perceived competitiveness. Only three of these sources -- colleagues, family members and seminars, have a positive effect on perceived competitiveness. The results suggest the importance of tacit and explicit knowledge for decision making and provide a framework for knowledge acquisition in small firms. Research limitations/implications -- The data for this study were collected from a few rural counties in Texas, more research is required to enhance the generalization of the findings of this study. Future research is to extend this study should examine specific knowledge components associated with marketing effectiveness that are acquired from seminars; family members, and colleagues by small business owners. Practical implications -- The practical implications for this study include the need for small business owners to increase their knowledge acquisition efforts especially from sources such as colleagues, family members and seminars if they want to be competitive. Extraction of sequences of events from news and other documents based on the publication times of these documents has been shown to be extremely effective in tracking past events. This paper addresses the issue of constructing an optimal information preserving decomposition of the time period associated with a given document set, i.e., a decomposition with the smallest number of subintervals, subject to no loss of information. We introduce the notion of the compressed interval decomposition, where each subinterval consists of consecutive time points having identical information content. We define optimality, and show that any optimal information preserving decomposition of the time period is a refinement of the compressed interval decomposition. We define several special classes of measure functions (functions that measure the prevalence of keywords in the document set and assign them numeric values), based on their effect on the information computed as document sets are combined. We give algorithms, appropriate for different classes of measure functions, for computing an optimal information preserving decomposition of a given document set. We studied the effectiveness of these algorithms by computing several compressed interval and information preserving decompositions for a subset of the Reuters-21578 document set. The experiments support the obvious conclusion that the temporal information gleaned from a document set is strongly dependent on the measure function used and on other user-defined parameters. The purpose of this study was to examine the inclusiveness of visually impaired youths' experiences in integrated physical education. An experiential qualitative research approach was utilized, and 22 visually impaired youth (age 12–17 years) acted as participants. Data sources included one-on-one Zoom interviews, written responses to long-answer prompts, and reflexive interview notes. Data were analyzed using a reflexive thematic analysis approach, and three themes were constructed: (a) I'm not there, so how could I: The absent person; (b) I can't see, so I can't do it: The incapable person; and (c) It'd be nice to feel like everyone else: The "normal" person. Participants described that feelings of inclusion were unavailable to them and that feeling, and being viewed as, absent, incapable, and (not) "normal" highlighted this unavailability. In spite of increased interest in recent years in the mechanics of qualitative evaluation, few evaluators or other qualitative researchers have addressed the related issues of qualitative data storage-retrieval and data reduction-analysis. Generalized procedures for these tasks, which are generally known within the field of anthropology, have never been systematically examined or codified. This paper borrows from developments in information and library science to construct general principles of data storage and retrieval for the field-based investigator. The five principles that are examined are formatting, cross-referral, indexing (including thesauri design and cross-referencing), abstracting, and pagination. The principles are illustrated with examples from evaluations of school-based programs in the United States. Although the emphasis here is on techniques for manual data manipulation, the paper also explores the advantages of, and considerations for, computerized data storage and search. We have developed an algorithm for cloud detection in Chinese GF-1/6 satellite multispectral images, allowing us to generate cloud masks at the pixel level. Due to the lack of shortwave infrared and thermal infrared bands in the Chinese GF-1/6 satellite, bright land surfaces and snow are frequently misclassified as clouds. To mitigate this issue, we utilized MODIS standard snow data products for reference data to determine the presence of snow cover in the images. Subsequently, our algorithm was utilized to correct misclassifications in snow-covered mountainous regions. The experimental area selected was the perpetually snow-covered Western mountains in the United States. The results indicate the accurate labeling of extensive snow-covered areas, achieving an overall cloud detection accuracy of over 91%. Our algorithm enables users to easily determine whether pixels are affected by cloud contamination, effectively improving accuracy in annotating data quality and greatly facilitating subsequent data retrieval and utilization. Efficient solution of the single source shortest path (SSSP) problem on road networks is an important requirement for numerous real-world applications. This paper introduces an algorithm for the SSSP problem using compression method. Owning to precomputing and storing all-pairs shortest path (APSP), the process of solving SSSP problem is a simple lookup of a little data from precomputed APSP and decompression. APSP without compression needs at least 1TB memory for a road network with one million vertices. Our algorithm can compress such an APSP into several GB, and ensure a good performance of decompression. In our experiment on a dataset about Northwest USA (with 1.2 millions vertices), our method can achieve about three orders of magnitude faster than Dijkstra algorithm based on binary heap. The National Library of Medicine's (NLM) AIDS Community Information Outreach Program (ACIOP) was launched in 1994 to provide the HIV/AIDS affected community with access to vital health information resources increasingly becoming available on the Internet. Three hundred awards have been made mostly to community-based organizations. An evaluation in 2012 found that most program objectives are being met; a principal recommendation going forward was that NLM seek to enhance the capacity of community-based awardees to conduct evaluations of their own projects. This article reports on a workshop whose invitees were drawn from AIDS serving organizations, along with scientists, clinicians, and information technologists, to review the evaluation findings and recommendations. They considered alternatives for improving awardees’ evaluation capabilities with the help of expert consultation, identified additional steps that could be taken to make individual project results more transparent and sharable, and looked at external influences ranging from mobile health devices to the latest HIV/AIDS scientific research findings that could be used to align future awards with unmet needs in the community. The paper identifies efforts subsequently made by ACIOP managers to prioritize and operationalize guidance from the evaluation and the workshop, and discusses the benefits of community engagement. The Water Data Exchange (WaDE) is a project initiated by the member states of the Western States Water Council (WSWC), in cooperation with the Western Governors' Association (WGA), to assist state water agencies when answering local, regional, and national water availability questions. WaDE provides requested information more easily, sustainably, and cost-effectively, by streamlining the publication of water planning, use, and allocation data for access by planners, policy makers, and the public. This paper presents the background of the WaDE project, how it was envisioned to function, the types of data it will provide, and why access to the information is important for water managers. The goals of WaDE include the establishment of a governance structure, documentation of the current state agency capabilities and methodologies, and the design of a common data format that targets water data products and/or water-quantity information. Many of these foundational products have been developed, such as governance workgroups, databases, web services code, and a prototype mapping application for centralized access. A major milestone, still underway, is the distribution and deployment of the databases and web services code within member states' information technology environments. The purpose of this paper is to describe the 4-step process (consent, selection, protection, and abstraction) of acquiring a large sample of chiropractic patient records from multiple practices and subsequent data abstraction. From April 2017 to December 2017, RAND acquired patient records from 99 chiropractic practices across the United States. The records included patients enrolled in a survey e-study (prospective sample) and a random sample of all clinic patients (retrospective sample) with chronic back or neck pain. Clinic staff were trained to collect the sample, scan, and transfer the records. We designed an online data collection tool for abstraction. Protocols were instituted to protect patient confidentiality. Doctors of chiropractic were selected and trained as abstractors, and a system was established to monitor data collection. In compliance with data protection protocols, 3603 patient records were scanned, including 1475 in the prospective sample and 2128 in the random sample. A total of 1716 patients (prospective sample) consented to having their records scanned, but only 1475 could be retrieved. Of records scanned, 19% were unusable owing to illegibility, no care during the period of interest, or poor scanning. The abstractor interrater reliability for appropriateness of care decisions was fair to moderate (κ.38-.48). The acquisition, handling, and abstraction of a large sample of chiropractic records was a complex task with challenges that necessitated adapting planned approaches. Of the records abstracted, many revealed incomplete provider documentation regarding the details of and rationale for care. Abstract: Systems that allow users to store and retrieve spatial data, provide for analyses of spatial data, and offer highly detailed display of spatial data are referred to as geographic information systems, or more typically, GIS. Since their initial usage in the 1960s, GISs have evolved as a means of assembling and analyzing diverse data pertaining to specific geographical areas, with spatial locations of the data serving as the organizational basis for the information systems. The structure of GISs is built around spatial identifiers and the methods used to encode data for storage and manipulation. This paper examines how GIS has been used in typical environmental assessment, its use for cumulative impact assessment, and explores litigation that occurred in the United States Federal court system where GIS was used in some aspect of cumulative effects. The paper also summarizes fifteen case studies that range from area wide transportation planning to wildlife and habitat impacts, and draws together a few lessons learned from this review of literature and litigation. This paper examines the articles published in on-line D-Lib magazine for authorship trend, contribution of teaching and professionals, country-wise contribution, degree of collaboration and productivity within different facets of digital /electronic libraries. The study carried out for this paper found that collaborative research is given priority over solo research. The degree of collaboration is found to be 0.66. The study further reveals more contribution from teaching community compared to professionals. Country-wise distribution reveals that most of the contribution comes from the USA and Germany while facet-wise distribution of articles depicts that most of the articles cover digital libraries and preservation followed by metadata /cataloguing. Purpose - This paper aims to provide a business plan for libraries to offer profitable passport services to patrons. Design/methodology/approach - Gives an overview of demographic, financial, and management profiles of California libraries that offer passport services. Presents a plan for introducing passport service in two California libraries. Findings - Current political and demographic environments for the two libraries make the introduction of passport services a potentially lucrative opportunity. Research limitations/implications - Little to no correlation was found between patron demographics of libraries currently offering passport services and the amount of revenue the services produce. Practical implications - Passport services may provide libraries a simple but effective way to supplement their budgets. Ontology is an effective conceptualism commonly used for the Semantic Web. Fuzzy logic can be incorporated to ontology to represent uncertainty information. Typically, fuzzy ontology is generated from a predefined concept hierarchy. However, to construct a concept hierarchy for a certain domain can be a difficult and tedious task. To tackle this problem, this paper proposes the FOGA (Fuzzy Ontology Generation frAmework) for automatic generation of fuzzy ontology on uncertainty information. The FOGA framework comprises the following components: Fuzzy Formal Concept Analysis, Concept Hierarchy Generation, and Fuzzy Ontology Generation. We also discuss approximating reasoning for incremental enrichment of the ontology with new upcoming data. This paper presents a graph-theoretic construct called a fuzzy metagraph (FM) with the capability of describing the relationships between sets of fuzzy elements instead of only single fuzzy elements. The algebraic structure of FM and its properties are extensively investigated. Subsequently, the FM construct is applied to rule-based systems. First, we propose FM-based knowledge representation in both graphic and algebraic format. The representation is capable of identifying dependencies across compound propositions in the rules. In the algebraic representation, the FM closure matrix is considered a precompiled rule base enabling efficient query processing. An iterative approach is presented to facilitate the construction and expansion of the FM closure matrix, which is a key for real-world applications. Next, we introduce the concept of indexing, which was originally developed for information retrieval (IR), to enable an immediate extraction of relevant entries from the FM closure matrix. The indexing approach is applied in combination with the FM closure matrix. Based on the combination, corresponding inference mechanisms are introduced to achieve instant acquisition of relevant rules over a large collection of rules. Efforts to build a complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) education and research infrastructure have been productive. Development has focused largely on graduate, postgraduate, and professional level training. This paper examines baccalaureate programs, looking at the prevalence and characteristics of CAM and holistic health training in the United States.A comprehensive literature and web site search was conducted to find educational institutions offering baccalaureate programs in CAM or holistic health. Search criteria included accredited undergraduate programs terminating in a minor, an AA, or a BA/BS degree.A search of health and education databases produced marginal results. Internet searches, by contrast, were very productive in locating CAM or holistic health-related programs generally and baccalaureateprograms specifically. The most effective search strings included terms such as 'holistic health,' 'minor,' 'certificate,'and 'undergraduate.' Using these terms, 5 programs were found in the United States that met the inclusioncriteria: Arizona State University East, Bastyr University, San Francisco State University, MetropolitanState College of Denver, and Georgian Court College.Preparing tomorrow's scholars and clinicians to contribute meaningfully to this emerging healthcare paradigm will require a plan that integrates all elements of higher education. The creation of a trulyeffective workforce of CAM-competent M.D.s, nurses, health educators, pharmacists, and other allied healthprofessionals will increasingly necessitate baccalaureate preparation. This paper focuses on types of images indexed by museum practitioners, the indexing procedures and elements, and types of tools and systems used. The six participating museums are in the states of California, Illinois, Massachusetts, New York, Ohio, and Washington, DC. Their conventional cataloging and indexing practices are not suitable or transferable for the new image management system. The lack of indexing standards and tools is the common challenge faced by the six museums involved in the study. Most image management systems are not metadata/XML ready and the expansion of the systems onto the Web may be limited, which contributes to the internal conflicts that exist within the museums.
