This paper is devoted to answering some questions using a mathematical model by analyzing India's first and second phases of the COVID-19 pandemic. A new mathematical model is introduced with a nonmonotonic incidence rate to incorporate the psychological effect of COVID-19 in society. The paper also discusses the local stability and global stability of an endemic equilibrium and a disease-free equilibrium. The basic reproduction number is evaluated using the proposed COVID-19 model for disease spread in India based on the actual data sets. The study of nonperiodic solutions at a positive equilibrium point is also analyzed. The model is rigorously studied using MATLAB to alert the decision-making bodies to hinder the emergence of any other pandemic outbreaks or the arrival of subsequent pandemic waves. This paper shows the excellent prediction of the first wave and very commanding for the second wave. The exciting results of the paper are as follows: (i) psychological effect on the human population has an impact on propagation; (ii) lockdown is a suitable technique mathematically to control the COVID spread; (iii) different variants produce different waves; (iv) the peak value always crosses its past value. The presence of the golden mussel in Brazil is a matter of great concern and causes harm to the country, particularly affecting the power generation sector. Infestation control represents a challenge, and there is a need to mathematically describe the dynamics of the problem. This work proposes to analyze a mathematical model based on differential equations that relate the populations of larvae, mussels, and algae. For this model, the critical points and stationary states are determined, seeking steady-state conditions stability, through the basic reproduction rate. In addition, it presents the sensitivity analysis of the parameters involved. The paper results are relevant as they allow mathematical interpretation of the golden mussel infestation potential through the basic reproduction rate. Furthermore, the sensitivity analysis suggests how important the parameters are for this potential. For that matter, this work can provide baseline information to guide future control strategies as it provides quantification of the species involved over time as well as a condition for infestation. • Mussel-algae interaction model. • Stability analysis of stationary solutions of the model. • Basal reproduction rate for the golden mussel model. Abstract: In this paper we develop a mathematical model to study the dynamics of visceral leishmaniasis in the Sudan. To develop this model we consider the dynamics of the disease between three different populations, human, reservoir and vector populations. The model is analyzed at equilibrium and the stability of the equilibria is analyzed. The basic reproduction number is derived, and the threshold conditions for disease elimination established. Results show that the disease can be eliminated under certain conditions. Simulations of the model show that human treatment helps in disease control, and its synergy with vector control will more likely result in the elimination of the disease. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

When analysing how individuals allocate resources, sexual display should be regarded as is any other life-history trait: patterns of allocation are expected to be individually optimised. It thus follows that the costs of sexual selection can not be studied by simply comparing unmanipulated individual effort and some measure of cost. This rather trivial consequence of life-history theory has received surprisingly little attention in studies of sexual selection despite the almostuniversal acceptance of the theory and the fact that several papers have addressed the question specifically in the context of sexual selection. We therefore again outline why sexual displays are expected to be optimised at the level of the individual and why individuals with high access to resources should generally display at higher levels than individuals short of resources. We use some recent findings fromstudies of birds and spiders particularly relevant to the above questions that illustrate these principles. The examples we present show that the cost of sexual selection could be mediated in many ways and we thus suggest that future studies should focus on such mechanisms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
