Summary: In this paper, a high voltage gain hybrid interleaved DC‐DC converter (HIC) with quadratic voltage gain is proposed that is suitable for renewable energy systems. The hybrid technique is used in this converter to increase the output voltage. The proposed DC‐DC converter utilizes the interleaved boost converter on the input side, and the input current is shared with a low ripple that lengthens the lifetime of the renewable power source. In addition, the proposed converter has low voltage stress across the components that can be adopted to reduce conduction losses and the cost of the elements. In addition, the proposed converter share ground between the input and output and has high efficiency. The operation modes of the proposed converter are analyzed, and its equations are calculated. Then, the elements of the proposed converter are designed in continuous conduction mode. A comprehensive comparison of the proposed converter with other recently presented existing converters is discussed to show the advantages and disadvantages of the proposed structure. As the percentage of renewable energy source within the energy production mix has expanded, it is become gradually difficult to determine the appropriate values for controller gains and model parameters. Controlling system frequency of interconnected power system during sudden load disturbance requires careful consideration of the controller gain values and small signal stability model parameters. This study proposes an innovative methodology for ascertaining controller gain values and model parameters for plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) in load frequency control (LFC) applications. Proposed method uses the root locus (RL) approach to find the suitable controller gain values and model parameters for PEVs. This paper offers a thorough mathematical description of the proposed RL approach. Routh approximation method is used for reduced-order modelling (ROM), which comprises thermal and PEV systems, to reduce complexity of higher-order system while designing controllers. Fractional-order proportional-integral-derivative controller (FO-PID) is proposed, and its parameters are adjusted using particle swarm optimization (PSO) tool. To validate the efficacy of suggested method, a comprehensive comparison of time response parameters and performance indices (PI) is carefully carried out. Also, the various PEVs state of charge (SOC) levels is investigated, and effects of these levels are studied in LFC with robustness analysis of controller. Renewable energy sources (RES) are currently being substantially integrated into the power grid because of the recent liberalization of the energy market and associated benefits to both the environment and the economy. A significant amount of renewable energy sources are stochastic and weather dependent, being integrated into the power system that causes a mismatch between the generation of power and the load demand, which creates major issues like variations in frequency and power transmission between the regions. So it is necessary to maintain the frequency and tie-line power variations within a defined range. This is known as automatic generation control (AGC) or load frequency control (LFC). This paper uses brown bear optimization algorithm (BOA) to tune the PID and cascaded PI-PDN controllers for LFC of the renewable integrated two-area power system. The ITAE objective function is utilized to obtain optimal gains of the PID controller. The performance of LFC with BOA-tuned PID controller is compared with other optimization techniques named grey wolf optimization technique (GWO) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) on a RES integrated two-area power system under various scenarios. Further, the effectiveness of the BOA is verified by comparing performance of the PID and cascaded PI-PDN controllers. This paper presents the smart household energy management system (SHEMS), designed to optimize domestic energy consumption. Capitalizing on the Internet of Things (IoT), SHEMS offers real-time energy monitoring and management, providing homeowners an adaptable architectural framework to regulate their energy use. Fundamental component of SHEMS is a controller interfacing with all household loads and the main meter, ensuring timely data on power consumption. Notably, during peak times, the system can autonomously adjust appliance settings, balancing energy savings without compromising user convenience. The power industry is currently undergoing a rapid transformation toward the maximum utilization of renewable energy resources. In grid-connected renewable energy systems, enhancing the voltage stability during the fluctuations in renewable energy outputs can be achieved using a transformer with built-in on-load tap changing. It is one of the main traditional voltage regulation techniques utilized to improve the voltage profile in the power grid. Due to the unpredictable nature of renewable energy penetration, the frequent operation of an on-load tap changer (OLTC) may increase significantly. Despite the proposed methods used to optimize the location and size of renewable generation, there is a lack of empirical or detailed studies that have been looking at the issue of tap changers, mainly the impact of renewable energy storage allocation. The main aim of this paper is to find a compromise approach to mitigate unnecessary tap-changing operation time by wisely siting and sizing the renewable energy storage system (RESS). Initially, a generalized method is proposed to formulate an analytical optimization framework coupled with a renewable storage index. This approach is employed to evaluate the behavior of OLTC in a grid-connected renewable energy system. The formulation is then used to model a decision-making approach to confirm the location and size of RESS, using the analytic network process (ANP) with entropy and technique for order of preference by similarity to an ideal solution (TOPSIS). The performance of the proposed approach is evaluated and compared using the IEEE benchmark networks. The multi-level inverter (MLI) is more efficient due to its ability to eliminate low-order harmonics. Thus, it is widely used in renewable energy generation, electric vehicles (EVs), etc. The choice of the neutral-point clamped (NPC) converter topology as a research object is of great significance in practical engineering. However, complex modulation algorithms and neutral-point voltage unbalance are two inherent problems for such NPC inverters. In this paper, an improved multi-voltage vector model predictive control (MVV-MPC) strategy based on neighboring four voltage vector synthesis is presented for three-phase NPC inverters. The duty cycle calculation and derivation methods for the proposed method are very simple, and they were obtained through the action time of each voltage vector being inversely proportional to the value of the corresponding cost function. Moreover, the fixed switching frequency of this strategy is maintained and the current peak ripple is reduced, guaranteeing the preferred total harmonic distortion of the output waveform. Furthermore, a voltage balancing method based on zero-sequence voltage injection is utilized to achieve dynamic balancing of the midpoint voltage difference and to limit the oscillation magnitude of the midpoint voltage difference to within ± 1 V. The integration of renewable energy is rapidly leading the existing grid systems toward modern hybrid power systems. These hybrid power systems are more complex due to the random and intermittent nature of RE and involve numerous operational challenges. This paper presents the operational model for solar integrated power systems to address the issues of economical operation, reliable solar share, energy deficit in case of contingency events, and the allocation of system spinning reserve. A mixed-integer optimization is formulated to minimize the overall cost of the system operation and to maximize the solar share under robust system spinning reserve limits as well as various other practical constraints. A Pareto-optimal solution for the maximization of the number of solar power plants and minimization of the solar cost is also presented for reliable solar share. Further, a decomposition framework is proposed to split the original problem into two sub-problems. The solution of joint optimization is obtained by exploiting a Lagrange relaxation method, a binary search Lambda iteration method, system spinning reserve analysis, and binary integer programming. Microbial fuel cells (MFCs) have garnered significant attention due to their capacity to generate electricity using renewable and carbon-neutral energy sources such as wastewater. Extensive experimental work and modeling techniques have been employed to dissect these processes and understand their respective impacts on electricity generation. The driving force is to enhance MFC performance for practical applications commercially. Among the various statistical modeling approaches, one particularly robust tool is the Design of Experiments (DoE). It serves to establish the relationships between different variables that influence MFC performance and allows for the optimization of the MFC configuration and operation for scaled-up performances in terms of bioelectricity generation. This study focused on optimizing microbial fuel cells (MFCs) for bioelectricity production using industrial wastewater treatment, employing the Box–Behnken design (BBD) methodology. Through an analysis of response surface models and ANOVA tests, it was found that a combined approach of reduced quadratic, reduced two-factor interaction, and linear models yielded sound results, particularly in voltage yield, COD removal, and current density. Second-order regression models predicted optimal conditions for various parameters, with surface area, temperature, and catholyte dosage identified as critical input variables for optimization. Under these conditions, conducted by the four-factor and three-level Box–Behnken design methodology in a double-chamber MFC unit considering eight output variables—CCV yield, % COD removal, current density, power density, % TSS removal, % CE, and % P O 4 3 − —the optimum values were 700 mV, 54.4%, 54.4 mA/m2, 73.7 mW/m2, 99%, 21.2%, and 100%, respectively. At optimum operating conditions, the results revealed a desirability of 76.6% out of a total of 92 iterations. The paper highlights the effectiveness of statistical ANOVA fit-statistics modeling and optimization in enhancing DCMFC performance, recommending its use as a sustainable bioenergy source. Furthermore, validation results supported the above optimization output response findings and confirmed the viability of biorefinery wastewater as an anolyte for scaling up DCMFC bioelectricity generation. The massive grid integration of renewable energy necessitates frequent and rapid response of hydropower output, which has brought enormous challenges to the hydropower operation and new opportunities for hydropower development. To investigate feasible solutions for complementary systems to cope with the energy transition in the context of the constantly changing role of the hydropower plant and the rapid evolution of wind and solar power, the short-term coordinated scheduling model is developed for the wind–solar–hydro hybrid pumped storage (WSHPS) system with peak shaving operation. The effects of different reservoir inflow conditions, different wind and solar power forecast output, and installed capacity of pumping station on the performance of WSHPS system are analyzed. The results show that compared with the wind–solar–hydro hybrid (WSH) system, the total power generation of the WSHPS system in the dry, normal, and wet year increased by 10.69%, 11.40%, and 11.27% respectively. The solar curtailment decreased by 68.97%, 61.61%, and 48.43%, respectively, and the wind curtailment decreased by 76.14%, 58.48%, and 50.91%, respectively. The high proportion of wind and solar energy connected to the grid in summer leads to large net load fluctuations and serious energy curtailment. The increase in the installed capacity of the pumping station will promote the consumption of wind and solar energy in the WSHPS system. The model proposed in this paper can improve the operational flexibility of hydropower station and promote the consumption of wind and solar energy, which provides a reference for the research of cascade hydropower energy storage system. Day-ahead electricity price forecasting (DAEPF) holds critical significance for stakeholders in energy markets, particularly in areas with large amounts of renewable energy sources (RES) integration. In Japan, the proliferation of RES has led to instances wherein day-ahead electricity prices drop to nearly zero JPY/kWh during peak RES production periods, substantially affecting transactions between electricity retailers and consumers. This paper introduces an innovative DAEPF framework employing a Convolutional Neural Network–Long Short-Term Memory (CNN–LSTM) model designed to predict day-ahead electricity prices in the Kyushu area of Japan. To mitigate the inherent uncertainties associated with neural networks, a novel ensemble learning approach is implemented to bolster the DAEPF model's robustness and prediction accuracy. The CNN–LSTM model is verified to outperform a standalone LSTM model in both prediction accuracy and computation time. Additionally, applying a natural logarithm transformation to the target day-ahead electricity price as a pre-processing technique has proven necessary for higher prediction accuracy. A novel "policy-versus-policy" strategy is proposed to address the prediction problem of the zero prices, halving the computation time of the traditional two-stage method. The efficacy of incorporating a suite of multimodal features: areal day-ahead electricity price, day-ahead system electricity price, areal actual power generation, areal meteorological forecasts, calendar forecasts, alongside the rolling features of areal day-ahead electricity price, as explanatory variables to significantly enhance DAEPF accuracy has been validated. With the full integration of the proposed features, the CNN–LSTM ensemble model achieves its highest accuracy, reaching performance metrics of R 2 , MAE, and RMSE of 0.787, 1.936 JPY/kWh, and 2.630 JPY/kWh, respectively, during the test range from 1 March 2023 to 31 March 2023, underscoring the advantages of a comprehensive, multi-dimensional approach to DAEPF. In recent years, integration of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems into distribution networks has been increasing rapidly, as it has become the most promising renewable energy source (RES) in the transition of power generation from centralised to decentralised systems. With the power electronic (PE) interfaces that use high-frequency internal switching, all renewable energy sources are considered to be harmonic emitters, especially near switching frequencies, i.e., above 2 kHz. This paper evaluates the behaviour of high-frequency harmonics in the 2–20 kHz range due to the parallel operation of multiple solar PV inverters connected to a low-voltage (LV) network. The circulation current component that flows within the installation due to the low impedance paths at higher frequencies is analysed. Summation of high-frequency harmonic currents is observed with phase diversity analysis. This paper looks at the changing impact of renewable energy and green innovation on the carbon footprint of eight MENA nations between 2000 and 2020. We investigate this by using the panel Q-ARDL model for the first time, and we find that, with various impacts across different quantiles, a rise in green innovation and renewable energy greatly boosts environmental sustainability in the short run. In the long run, this effect becomes increasingly more noticeable. According to our analysis, the chosen MENA countries quickly embraced energy storage, solar hydrogen, and other technology pathways to diversify their energy mix, which was a turning point in the fight against climate change. Although these factors have been separately examined in different studies, our research merges them into a single non-parametric model. This research is significant as it provides empirical evidence on the efficiency of green innovation and renewable energy policies, and it will guide policymakers and energy stakeholders in developing strategies to achieve sustainable development goals. The green energy transition calls for various solutions to enhance environmental sustainability. One of these is represented by renewable energy communities, which may help transition from centralized energy production to distributed renewable generation. European countries are actively promoting incentive schemes for energy communities to foster local electricity self-consumption in order to balance demand and renewable generation. In this context, energy storage facilities can be employed to gather the energy production surplus and use it in periods of low generation. In this paper, we focus on the optimal operation of an incentive-based energy community in the presence of energy storage systems. A centralized optimization problem was formulated to optimally operate storage systems at the community level. Starting from this solution, distributed charging/discharging commands were found to optimally operate the single storage units. Moreover, conditions guaranteeing the convenience of using energy storage systems inside the community were derived. This paper investigates grid export constraints applicable to photovoltaic (PV) and wind farm (WF) installations, both with and without behind-the-meter storage, aimed at enhancing grid hosting capacity. The study focuses on static output power limitations, i.e., simple export constraints that are preventively imposed on renewable energy source (RES) plants regardless of the prevailing network congestion conditions. These constraints are easy to apply, implemented ex ante and out of market, and do not require additional investments in energy storage or advanced devices. They also yield a measurable increase in hosting capacity and grid utilization, with their impact on RES plant operation and return of investment straightforwardly calculable. Analysis defines the level and shape of these constraints assuming an indicative acceptable curtailment level of 5% for each RES technology attributed to the preventing action of the imposed limitations, while the respective implications for RES energy yield and investment viability are explored. The findings indicate that an export power limitation of ca. 68% is effective for stand-alone PVs, while a stepwise static limitation is necessary for stand-alone WFs and WFs with integrated storage to manage midday solar generation peaks. Additionally, the growing concerns about climate change and energy security have heightened the importance of exploring alternative energy sources to replace fossil fuels. The utilisation of agricultural waste for bioenergy production has acquired significant attention due to its potential to mitigate environmental impacts and provide renewable energy sources. However, the major obstacle to producing bioenergy is managing the supply chain while considering economic, environmental, and social factors in an optimal way. This paper presents a comprehensive overview of the literature on the management of agriculture waste supply chains, specifically related to the use of modelling and optimisation techniques for planning. The first section describes different stages of the supply chain and various technologies for converting biomass to bioenergy. This is followed by a synopsis of the literature reviewed based on decision levels, objective functions, modelling methodologies, and optimisation approaches. With the energy structure transition and the development of the green power market, the role of electricity retailers in multi-market green power trading has become more and more important. Particularly in China, where aggressive green energy policies and rapid market transformations provide a distinct context for such studies, the challenges are pronounced. Under demand-side response, electricity retailers face the uncertainty of users' electricity consumption and incentives, which complicates decision-making processes. The purpose of this paper is to explore the optimization decision-making problem of multi-market green power trading for electricity retailers under demand-side response, with a special focus on the Chinese market due to its leadership in implementing substantial green energy initiatives and its potential to set precedents for global practices. We first construct a two-party benefit optimization model, which comprehensively considers the profit objectives for electricity retailers and utility maximization for users. Then, the model is solved by the Lagrange multiplier method and distributed subgradient algorithm to obtain the optimal solution. Finally, the effectiveness of the incentive optimization strategy under the multi-market to promote green power consumption and improve the profit of electricity retailers is verified by arithmetic simulation. The results of this study show that the incentive optimization strategy under multi-market, particularly within the Chinese context, is expected to provide a reference for electricity retailers to develop more flexible and effective trading strategies in the green power market and to contribute to the process of promoting green power consumption globally. The increasing penetration of renewable energy sources (RESs) in transmission and distribution systems presents several challenges for grid operators. In particular, the unpredictable behavior of RESs can disrupt the balance between energy production and load demand, potentially affecting the stability of the entire system. Grid-connected energy storage systems (ESSs) offer a possible solution to manage the uncertainty associated with RESs. In fact, ESSs exchange power with the grid through the adoption of suitable energy management strategies, which are typically implemented by power electronics-based grid interfaces. Unlike other current source converter (CSC) solutions described in the literature, which only interface with a single energy storage device, this paper introduces a novel topology for a three-phase delta-type current source converter (D-CSC), which is capable of integrating three independent ESSs using the same number of semiconductors as traditional CSC solutions. Thus, it considerably enhances the flexibility of a power conversion system (PCS) without increasing the number of converter components. In addition, an innovative energy management control strategy is also introduced. This strategy enables the D-CSC to compensate for energy imbalances arising between the three ESSs, which might be caused by several factors, such as different aging characteristics, converter component tolerances, operating conditions, and temperature drifts. Hence, the D-CSC-based interface is capable of proper grid operation even if the three ESSs have different characteristics, thus opening the possibility of employing this converter to integrate both first and second-life devices. First, the topology of the proposed D-CSC is introduced, followed by a detailed mathematical description of its control strategy. The proper grid operation of the D-CSC was tested under different scenarios, considering the grid integration of three independent superconducting magnetic energy storage systems in a marine vessel. The proposed D-CSC is compared to traditional CSC solutions, highlighting the superior performances of the novel converter topology in terms of efficiency, total harmonic distortion of the output currents, and overall cost reduction for the PCS. The strategic objective of world climate policy is the decarbonization of industries, aiming to achieve "net-zero" emissions by 2050, as outlined in the European Green Deal and the Paris Agreement. This transition entails increasing the utilization of renewable energy sources (RES) in industrial energy consumption, thereby transforming economies from reliance on fossil fuels to sustainable alternatives. However, this shift poses a significant challenge for many EU countries, with varying degrees of success in adaptation. This paper investigates the process of decarbonizing industries by analyzing trends in the adoption of RES in EU countries and evaluating their progress toward climate targets. Utilizing time series analysis of production, total energy usage, and the proportion of renewables in industrial energy consumption, the study compares two groups of countries: longstanding EU members and newer additions. The aim is to forecast the trajectory of RES integration in industry and assess the feasibility of meeting the targets outlined in the European Green Deal. The findings reveal a considerable gap between the set targets and projected outcomes, with only a few countries expected to meet the EU's 2030 goals. This is highlighted by disparities in RES shares across member states, ranging from 0.0% to 53.8% in 2022. Despite notable increases in the absolute use of renewable energy, particularly in central and eastern European nations, substantial challenges persist in aligning industrial sectors with EU decarbonization objectives. As the demand for sustainable energy solutions grows, there is a critical requirement for continuous innovation to optimize the performance and safety of renewable energy systems (RESs). Closed-loop digital twins (CLDTs)—synchronized virtual replicas embedded with real-time data and control loops to mirror the behavior of physical systems—have emerged as a promising tool for achieving this goal. This paper presents a systematic literature review on the application of digital twin (DT) technology in the context of RESs with an emphasis on the impact of DTs on the efficiency, performance, and safety assurance of RESs. It explores the concept of CLDTs, highlighting their key functionalities and potential benefits for various renewable energy technologies. However, their effective implementation requires a structured approach to integrate observation, orientation, decision, and action (OODA) processes. This study presents a novel OODA framework specifically designed for CLDTs to systematically identify and manage their key components. These components include real-time monitoring, decision-making, and actuation. The comparison is carried out against the capabilities of DT utilizing the OODA framework. Due to the growing demand for clean and sustainable energy sources, there has been an increasing interest in solar cells and photovoltaic panels. Nevertheless, determining the right design parameters to achieve the most efficient energy output that aligns with the energy system's needs can be quite challenging. This complexity arises from the intricate models and the inherent inaccuracies in the available information. To tackle this challenge, this paper introduces the adaptive sine–cosine particle swarm optimization algorithm (ASCA-PSO) as a method for estimating the parameters of solar cells and photovoltaic modules. The ASCA-PSO approach combines the strengths of the SCA and PSO algorithms in a two-tier process. In this process, SCA search agents explore the search space, while the PSO search agents leverage the outcomes derived from SCA exploration. This study evaluates the effectiveness of ASCA-PSO in accurately estimating the parameters of single- and double-diode models using data from two commercial solar cells. The findings are compared with those of cutting-edge methods. It is demonstrated that ASCA-PSO can identify global solutions for multifaceted and intricate objective functions. The ever-increasing demand for electricity has presented a grave threat to traditional energy sources, which are finite, rapidly depleting, and have a detrimental environmental impact. These shortcomings of conventional energy resources have caused the globe to switch from traditional to renewable energy sources. Wind power significantly contributes to carbon-free energy because it is widely accessible, inexpensive, and produces no harmful emissions. Better and more efficient renewable wind power production relies on accurate wind speed predictions. Accurate short-term wind speed forecasting is essential for effectively handling unsteady wind power generation and ensuring that wind turbines operate safely. The significant stochastic nature of the wind speed and its dynamic unpredictability makes it difficult to forecast. This paper develops a hybrid model, L-LG-S, for precise short-term wind speed forecasting to address problems in wind speed forecasting. In this research, state-of-the-art machine learning and deep learning algorithms employed in wind speed forecasting are compared with the proposed approach. The effectiveness of the proposed hybrid model is tested using real-world wind speed data from a wind turbine located in the city of Karachi, Pakistan. Moreover, the mean square error (MSE), root mean square error (RMSE), and mean absolute error (MAE) are used as accuracy evaluation indices. Experimental results show that the proposed model outperforms the state-of-the-art legacy models in terms of accuracy for short-term wind speed in training, validation and test predictions by 98% respectively. The integration of renewable energy sources into power systems has increased significantly in recent years. Therefore, in power systems connected to wind farms, it is usually required to use some compensators such as static synchronous series compensator (SSSC) to increase the system performance under abnormal conditions. On the other hand, for an SSSC to be effective in improving the system performance, it must be equipped with a suitable controller. In this paper, a fuzzy logic controller (FLC) is used for the SSSC because of its advantages over conventional controllers. Extensive research has been conducted in power systems with wind turbines in which SSSC or FLC has been used; however, their simultaneous application in such systems has received less attention. Therefore, this article aims to fill this gap. The proposed method is implemented on two power systems and the simulation results are analyzed. In both systems, the dynamic behavior of three different wind farms is examined. In the first and second wind farms, either a squirrel cage induction generator (SCIG) or doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) are used, whereas in the third one which is a combined wind farm (CWF), an equal number of SCIG and DFIG are employed. In wind farms with SCIG or DFIG, an SSSC is also utilized. Furthermore, an FLC is employed for the SSSC to improve its efficacy. A proportional integral (PI) controller is also considered for the SSSC, and its results are compared with FLC results. The simulation results confirm the superiority of FLC over PI controller. This paper aims to explore the practices and ongoing activities on account of sustainable banking which is being practised in the Pakistani Banking Sector. A mixed methods approach using a survey with a sample size of (n = 250) and in-depth interviews of (n = 25) provides significant evidence for the research. SmartPLS4.0 was used for hypotheses testing and to ascertain the path coefficient association within the constructs. This research fills the gap in existing literature by testing and implying the mediating role of Stakeholders' Influence on the relationship between Green Banking Practices and the Bank's Performance. The results of the quantitative analysis show a positive association between variables, highlighting the role of stakeholders and their need to partake efficiently, in the countrywide execution of green banking. The qualitative analysis portrays that; green banking is currently the partial focus of the banking sector in the developing economy of Pakistan whereas, approaches like financing green projects, investments in renewable energy, in-house greening of the banking sector, and provision of easy lending facilities to encourage and support environmental initiatives are some commonly practised accomplishments of the banking sector. The rapid deployment of electric vehicles (EVs) in Jordan requires massive efforts to prepare the infrastructures that serve the transportation sector. The lack of EV charging stations is the major obstacle that faces EV drivers. Utilizing renewable energy in EV charging stations contributes to the spread of these stations. Renewable energy technologies are environmentally friendly as they mitigate greenhouse gases that cause the global warming phenomenon. In this paper, an EV charging station, based on a PV-biodiesel-battery hybrid system, is investigated. The importance of this article is to discuss the hybrid system of PV and waste vegetable oil (WVO) along with storage that applies the maximum reliability supply, having an environmentally friendly supply and achieving the lowest energy cost of charging. This station is designed based on renewable and WVO utilization. In fact, WVO, coming from restaurants, is exploited to produce electricity by a diesel generator through direct burning after converting it into biodiesel. The capacity of each station is 14 cars/day with a medium-speed charger of 7 kW. The system is simulated and optimized using iHOGA software where multiobjective optimization is applied to achieve the minimum net present cost (NPC) and CO2 emissions considering three cases, PV-diesel, PV-biodiesel, and PV-WVO, all with battery-hybrid system. These values for the EV charging station that uses the PV-biodiesel-battery hybrid system are 624408 € and 15.4 tons/year, respectively. The corresponding values are 781473 € and 15.14 tons/year and 615310 € and 18.84 tons/year for the systems that work with diesel and WVO, respectively, and energy cost is achieved in best solution to be 0.11 Euro/kWh. World is presently facing major challenges in energy industry to reduce or replace greenhouse gases (CO 2 , CH 4 , NO x etc.) emissions to net zero in the coming decades while decreasing the reliance on traditional fossil fuels. In the current scenario, hydrogen (H 2) appears to be an excellent alternative energy source to meet the criteria. Storage of H 2 over a long period of time in large quantities poses a significant challenge for its widespread uses. In order to overcome this issue, the idea of using large-scale depleted underground hydrocarbon reservoirs, salt caverns, underground aquifers, etc. is considered to be a suitable option for underground hydrogen storage. However, underground storage of H 2 for a longer time period comes up with a potentially high microbial activity where H 2 can be utilized in the microbial metabolism and converted into undesirable gases like CH 4 and H 2 S which in turn, damage the porous medium due to clogging, acid formation, and corrosion activity. The measures needed to limit global warming pose a particular challenge to current fossil fuel exporters, who must not only decarbonise their local energy systems, but also compensate for the expected decline in fossil fuel revenues. One possibility is seen in the export of green hydrogen. Using Algeria as a case study, this paper analyses how different levels of ambition in hydrogen exports, energy efficiency and fuel switching affect the cost-optimal expansion of the power sector for a given overall emissions reduction path. Despite falling costs for photovoltaics and wind turbines, the results indicate that in countries with very low natural gas prices, such as Algeria, a fully renewable electricity system by 2050 is unlikely without appropriate policy measures. The expansion of renewable energy should therefore start early, given the high annual growth rates required, which will be reinforced by additional green hydrogen exports. In parallel, energy efficiency is a key factor as it directly mitigates CO2 emissions from fossil fuels and reduces domestic electricity demand, which could instead be used for hydrogen production. Integrating electrolysers into the power system could potentially help to reduce specific costs through load shifting. Overall, it seems advisable to analyse hydrogen exports together with local decarbonisation in order to better understand their interactions and to reduce emissions as efficiently as possible. Renewable energy production through electrolysis of water to obtain "green hydrogen" has gained interest as a clean energy storage option. However, integrating variable renewable energy resources into the grid poses challenges to maintaining energy balance and stability. In this paper, a hybrid energy storage system combining short-term battery energy storage system and long-term hydrogen-based energy storage system is proposed for an isolated DC microgrid with a structure similar to a hydrogen refueling station. Passivity-Based Control (IDA-PBC) is utilized for power converters regulation, ensuring global stability based on Lyapunov theory while accounting for the nonlinear characteristics of the physical system. The control strategy is designed to ensure a reliable supply of electrical energy to the loads, preserve the quality of electrical variables in the network, and secure the safe operation of system components. Additionally, to safeguard devices from overvoltage, a Sliding Mode Reference Conditioning loop (SMRC) is proposed. It intervenes only when there is a potential risk of exceeding predefined boundaries. In this paper, a new simultaneous framework of distribution network operation is proposed based on the scheduling of photovoltaic/wind/battery multi-microgrids with network reconfiguration considering self-healing. The objective function is considered to minimize the energy losses, and multi-microgrids cost and improve the reliability indices including minimization of energy not-supplied (ENS) and minimizing system average interruption duration (SAIDI) and system average interruption frequency (SAIFI) indices. The optimization variables are defined as the situation of the distribution network switches to find the network's optimal configuration with the installation location and size of renewable resources and battery energy storage during 24 hours. An improved beluga whale optimization (IBWO) based on a nonlinearly diminishing inertia weight (NDIW) approach is used to find the optimal variable set of the problem. The recommended methodology is implemented on 33-bus and real 59-bus distribution networks. The results demonstrated that by obtaining an optimal state of the network switches in the event of a fault, as well as the optimal scheduling of the two microgrids, the energy losses have decreased and the reliability indices have improved. The outcomes of the proposed methodology based on the hybrid multi-microgrid allocation and network reconfiguration are stated that the losses, ENS, SAIDI, and SAIFI are reduced by 66.39%, 54.00%, 50.24%, and 33.61%, respectively, for 33-bus network and are declined by 65.29%, 57.44%, 48.63%, and 62.33%, respectively, for the real 59-bus Ahvaz network in comparison with the base network. The obtained results illustrated that in the condition of the network line outage, by simultaneously implementing the reconfiguration with the change of network switches and the optimal allocation and scheduling of HMGs in the network, self-healing is provided to prevent a significant weakening of the network performance so that the resilience is improved in addition to minimizing the energy losses and the cost of HMG energy injection compared to the base network. The findings revealed that the objectives including losses, ENS, SAIFI, and SAIDI are increased by 78.29%, 33.00%, 83.33%, and 35.11%, respectively, due to outage of line 22 of the 33-bus network and these objectives are increased by 52.32%, 10.30%, 32.29%, and 79.66%, respectively, due to outage of line 12 of the 59-bus network compared with not considering the line outage. Moreover, the superior capability of the recommended NDIW-based IBWO has been confirmed in comparison with the well-known particle swarm optimizer (PSO) and ant lion optimizer (ALO) in solving the problem to achieve better objective value. Under the envisioned smart grid paradigm, there is an increasing demand for a fast, accurate, and efficient power flow solution for distribution system operation and control. Various solution techniques have been proposed, each with its own unique formulation, solution methodology, advantages, and drawbacks. Motivated by challenges associated with the integration of renewable distributed energy resources and electric vehicles into distribution systems and further by the speed and convergence limitations of existing tools, this paper presents a novel graph‐based power flow solution for smart grid's real‐time operation and control, named Flow‐AugmentationPF algorithm. The proposed method formulates a power flow problem as a network‐flow problem and solves it by using a maximum‐flow algorithm, inspired by the push‐relabel max‐flow technique. The performance of the proposed algorithm is tested and validated using several benchmark networks of different sizes, topologies, and parameters and compared against the most commonly used solution techniques and commercial software packages, namely PSS/E and PSCAD. The proposed formulation is simple, accurate, fast, yet computationally efficient, as it is based on matrix‐vector multiplication, and is also scalable, considering the formulation works as a graph‐based method, which, inherently, allows for parallel computation for added computational speed. Due to the increasing share of inverter‐based renewable energy sources and the increased retrofitting of conventional hydropower plants with power electronics, novel possibilities arise for providing damping power in case of occurring inter‐area oscillations in power systems. This paper presents a complete model of a variable‐speed hydropower plant (VSHP) in a single‐machine infinite bus system. The demonstrated analytical model is applied for small‐signal stability analysis that contains all relevant converter dynamics and is verified by an additional non‐linear time‐domain simulation. The damping controller approach located in the full‐size converter (FSC) consists of the classical power system stabilizer with additional phase compensation, to which an appropriate wide‐area input signal is fed via a phasor measurement unit device. The increased penetration of renewable energy sources and the intensification of peak‐valley differences present challenges to peak regulation in the power system. Fulfilling the peak regulation needs of the power system solely through generation‐side resources proves to be challenging. Large‐scale fixed frequency air‐conditioning (FFAC) and inverter air‐conditioning (IAC) are high‐quality flexible load resources. This paper proposes a hierarchical coordinated control strategy of air‐conditioning (AC) loads for peak regulation service. In the first layer of the control strategy, the load aggregator collaborates with multiple AC groups to ensure the completion of peak regulation tasks with specific power‐constrained requirements. In the second layer of the control strategy, the control centre of each group optimizes the temperature adjustment values for each AC load, aiming to reduce incentive costs. Finally, the proposed method is validated through simulations, demonstrating its capability to achieve coordinated control of FFAC and IAC loads under various power‐constrained requirements. Aviation fuels are essential for flight transportation. The increasing demand for such fuels threatens the present efforts to mitigate global warming. Changing to renewable energy sources and hydrogen to drive airplanes is not ready and will take a few decades. Therefore, alternative fuels such as sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs, also so-called bio-jet fuels) could play an excellent role in mitigating greenhouse emissions. SAFs encompass blends of bio and synthetic fuels. Some SAF pathways have already been certified (such as oil-to-jet, alcohol-to-jet, gas-to-jet, and sugar-to-jet), and some are on the way to being certified. This review starts by providing a detailed overview of the current status of aviation fuels, including their growth, types, and emission trends. After that, it comprehensively delves into a thorough discussion of SAFs, covering various aspects such as their types, combustion properties, production technologies and pathways, cost evolution, and life cycle assessments. The paper discusses the SAFs' future prospects while providing practical recommendations based on the analysis. It was shown that the oil-to-fuel (HEFA) pathway is more mature with less carbon emissions. SAFs face challenges, including high costs, limited production scale, feedstock availability, energy-intensive production methods, land-use competition, potential indirect environmental impacts, certification standards, infrastructure, and public acceptance. Integration of renewable energy sources (RES) to the grid in today's electrical system is being encouraged to meet the increase in demand of electrical power and also overcome the environmental related problems by reducing the usage of fossil fuels. Power Quality (PQ) is a critical problem that could have an effect on utilities and consumers. PQ issues in the modern electric power system were turned on by a linkage of RES, smart grid technologies and widespread usage of power electronics equipment. Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) is widely employed for solving issues with the distribution grid caused by anomalous voltage, current, or frequency. To enhance UPQC performance, Fractional Order Proportional Integral Derivative (FOPID) is developed; nevertheless, a number of tuning parameters restricts its performance. The best solution for the FOPID controller problem is found by using a Coati Optimization Algorithm (COA) and Osprey Optimization Algorithm (OOA) are combined to make a hybrid optimization CO-OA algorithm approach to mitigate these problems. This paper proposes an improved FOPID controller to reduce PQ problems while taking load power into account. In the suggested model, a RES is connected to the grid system to supply the necessary load demand during the PQ problems period. Through the use of an enhanced FOPID controller, both current and voltage PQ concerns are separately modified. The pulse signal of UPQC was done using the optimal controller, which analyzes the error value of reference value and actual value to generate pulses. The integrated design mitigates PQ issues in a system at non-linear load and linear load conditions. The proposed model provides THD of 12.15% and 0.82% at the sag period, 10.18% and 0.48% at the swell period, and 10.07% and 1.01% at the interruption period of non-linear load condition. A comparison between the FOPID controller and the traditional PI controller was additionally taken. This paper presented control methods for the reduction of the ripple torque and the control of speed in the residential of BLDC and different applications using ZSI. Geothermal resources have been recognized as important sources of clean renewable energy. The exploration, development, and utilization of geothermal resources, especially hot dry rock (HDR) resources, are highly important for achieving peak carbon and carbon neutrality. However, there is no comprehensive evaluation method for determining HDR target areas, and the evaluation scale and application disciplines are relatively simplistic. In this paper, we sought to optimize the identification of HDR target areas through a multiscale and multidisciplinary method and formed a set of generalized and demonstrative processes to guide the exploration of HDR resources. Through practical application to the Gonghe Basin and the Zhangzhou Basin, it was found that the comprehensive geothermal conditions of the Gonghe Basin are superior to those of the Zhangzhou Basin, and the geothermal reservoir depth, geothermal reservoir temperature, geothermal gradient, and heat flow are the four most important factors affecting hot dry rock geothermal resources. Using this method, the prioritization of target areas changes from a qualitative study to a quantitative and semiquantitative study, increasing the specificity and reliability of the decision-making process. Over the past few decades, many universities have turned to using microgrid systems because of their dependability, security, flexibility, and less reliance on the primary grid. Microgrids on campuses face challenges in the instability of power production due to meteorological conditions, as the output of renewable sources such as solar and wind power relies entirely on the weather and determining the optimal size of microgrids. Therefore, this paper comprehensively reviews the university campuses' microgrids. Some renewable energy sources, such as geothermal (GE), wind turbine (WT), and photovoltaic (PV), are compared in terms of installation costs, availability, weather conditions, efficiency, environmental impact, and maintenance. Furthermore, a description of microgrid systems and their components, including distributed generation (DG), energy storage system (ESS), and microgrid load, is presented. As a result, the most common optimization models for analyzing the performance of campus microgrids are discussed. Hybrid microgrid system configurations are introduced and compared to find the optimal configuration in terms of energy production and flexibility. Egypt has the potential to generate a significant amount of energy from renewable technologies, in particular solar PV, concentrated solar power (CSP), and onshore and offshore wind. The energy sector is reliant on fossil fuels, particularly natural gas, for electricity production and is at risk of locking itself into a high carbon pathway. Globally, reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with national energy sectors is a target outlined in the UN's Paris Agreement. To reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions associated with a higher dependence on fossil fuels, Egypt must consider upscaling renewable energy technologies (RETs) to achieve a clean energy transition (CET). This research modelled six scenarios using clicSAND for OSeMOSYS to identify the technologies and policy target improvements that are needed to upscale RETs within Egypt's energy sector. The results showed that solar PV and onshore wind are key technologies to be upscaled to contribute towards Egypt's CET. The optimal renewable target is the International Renewable Energy Agency's (IRENA) target of 53% of electricity being sourced from RETs by 2030, which will cost USD 16.4 billion more up to 2035 than Egypt's current Integrated Sustainable Energy Strategy (ISES) target of 42% by 2035; it also saves 732.0 MtCO2 over the entire modelling period to 2070. Socio-economic barriers to this transition are considered, such as recent discoveries of natural gas reserves combined with a history of energy insecurity, political instability impacting investor confidence, and a lack of international climate funding. Interoperable multi-vendor High-Voltage Direct-Current (HVDC) grids are a key enabler for the integration of renewable energy (in particular offshore wind) and its transmission over longer distances to consumers. However, most HVDC systems today are single-vendor and point-to-point. Various technical and non-technical aspects need to be considered, for example, (real-time) testing, legal aspects (intellectual property and regulation), and the multi-vendor interoperability process. With the urgent global need to limit warming to 2 °C as well as a localized need in our case study to address rising energy demand amid electrical and thermal network limitations, a critical examination of demand-side energy reductions and the concept of energy sufficiency is needed. This paper contributes to the sparse literature on bottom-up analysis by utilizing Iceland—a leader in renewable energy generation—as a case study to explore the socio-economic factors influencing energy footprints. Our findings reveal significant energy footprints across various consumption domains, particularly housing and mobility, influenced by income levels, urbanization, and lifestyle choices. The study highlights the paradox of a high renewable energy supply leading to potential misconceptions regarding abundant and low-cost energy, resulting in substantial energy consumption-related environmental impacts. Using detailed household consumption survey data, this research provides insights crucial for developing sustainable energy policies that not only target technological advancements but also address the need for a reduction in energy demand and a shift towards energy sufficiency. This work marks a contribution to the literature through the provision of a case study of low income inequality and high energy footprints in a highly renewable energy system context. Global warming increases the risk of power outages. Mine water pumping stations pump approximately 100 million m3 of water per year (2023). The cessation of mine water pumping would expose neighboring mines and lower lying areas to flooding. The pumping stations have some containment, but a prolonged shutdown could cause environmental problems. Remediation of the resulting damage would be costly and time-consuming. The combination of the problems of dewatering abandoned mines and storing energy in the form of hydrogen to ensure continuity of power supply to pumping stations has not been the subject of extensive scientific research. The purpose of this paper was to develop options for protecting mine water pumping stations against the "blackout" phenomenon and to assess their investment relevance. Six technically feasible options for the modernization of mine water pumping stations were designed and analyzed in the study. All pumping station modernization options include storage of the generated energy in the form of green hydrogen. For Q1 2024 conditions, the option with the partial retail sale of the produced hydrogen and the increased volume of produced water for treatment is recommended for implementation. This research paper presents a comprehensive study on the implementation of photovoltaic (PV) energy systems at Al-Abrar Mosque in Saudi Arabia. The primary objective was to explore optimal regional solar power strategies. By synergistically integrating technical evaluations of the PV system with economic analyses, including the payback period and levelized cost of energy (LCOE), alongside an investigation of net metering and net billing scenarios, we delineated a pathway toward achieving net zero billing for the mosque's energy requirements. This study examined two scenarios: Scenario I involved net metering, while Scenario II explored net billing. Our theoretical and simulation results, derived from detailed analyses conducted using PVsyst software, unequivocally demonstrated the superiority of net metering for this specific application. With net metering, the mosque's energy needs can be efficiently met using minimal infrastructure—comprising only 34 photovoltaic modules and a single inverter. In contrast, net billing requires significantly higher resource demands, underscoring the economic and spatial advantages of net metering. Additionally, the payback period for Scenario I is 7.9 years, while for Scenario II, it extends to 87 years. Through rigorous simulations, this study reaffirmed the practicality and feasibility of the net metering approach within the context of Saudi Arabia. Furthermore, our research provides actionable insights for implementing sustainable solutions at specific sites, such as the Al-Abrar Mosque, and contributes to advancing renewable energy knowledge in the region. Since the creation of the first parallel electrical power systems around the world, the rotor angle stability of synchronously operating generators has been one of the most crucial and challenging problems. In modern electricity networks, including in Kazakhstan, where renewable energy technologies are rapidly emerging, the issue of stability takes on even greater importance due to the technical shortcomings of inverter-based generation. In this framework, an analysis of rotor angle transient stability was carried out when replacing existing synchronous generators with doubly fed induction generators under a certain pre-emergency mode. A critical proportion of active power generation by DFIG units was identified at which transient stability can still be maintained due to the sufficient stored kinetic energy of the synchronous machines remaining in operation. In addition, two simple solutions were investigated to improve transient stability, such as an increased time of the automatic reclosure operation and the use of special load-shedding automation. Finally, this paper proposes a novel type of flexible smart-grid automation that is capable of monitoring the main operating parameters and issuing control actions depending on inertia, the availability of wind resources, and the load of the system as a whole. The stability of offshore floating wind turbine foundation platforms is a fundamental requirement for the efficiency and safety of wind power generation systems. This paper proposes a novel small-diameter float-type semi-submersible platform to improve system stability. To evaluate the superior motion stability of the proposed floating platform, a comprehensive frequency–domain response analysis and experimental study were conducted in comparison with the OC4-DeepCwind platform developed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). The respective comparison of the frequency–domain response analysis and the experimental results demonstrated that the proposed floating wind turbine platform shows better hydrodynamic characteristics and resonance avoidance capability. This not only reduces the Response Amplitude Operators (RAOs), but also enhances the system stability, namely, effectively avoiding the regions of concentrated wave loading and low-frequency ranges. Furthermore, the proposed small-diameter semi-submersible platform has the potential to reduce manufacturing costs, providing valuable insights for the manufacturing of offshore floating wind turbine systems. In recent years, the development of hydrogen energy has been widely discussed, particularly in combination with renewable energy sources, enabling the production of "green" hydrogen. With the significant increase in wind power generation, a promising solution for obtaining green hydrogen is the development of wind-to-hydrogen (W2H) systems. However, the high proportion of wind power and electrolyzers in a large-scale W2H system will bring about the problem of renewable energy consumption and frequency stability reduction. This paper analyzes the operational characteristics and economic feasibility of mainstream electrolyzers, leading to the proposal of a coordinated hydrogen production scheme involving both a proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer and an alkaline (ALK) electrolyzer. Subsequently, a coordinated control based on Model Predictive Control (MPC) is proposed for system frequency regulation in a large-scale W2H islanded microgrid. Finally, simulation results demonstrate that the system under PEM/ALK electrolyzers coordinated control not only flexibly accommodates fluctuating wind power but also maintains frequency stability in the face of large disturbances. Compared with the traditional system with all ALK electrolyzers, the frequency deviation of this system is reduced by 25%, the regulation time is shortened by 80%, and the demand for an energy storage system (ESS) is reduced. Solar energy is one type of clean energy resource, and currently the IMO, EU and UK are targeting net zero carbon emissions by 2050. This paper delves into the integration of photovoltaic (PV) systems into hybrid vessels in order to meet their strategies and targets. The technical challenges that come with designing such systems as well as their economic and environmental impacts are examined. By optimizing the usage of harnessed solar energy, we discover the operational strategy that provides maximal benefits through day-to-day savings as well as over the 25 year lifespan of solar panels. It demonstrates impressive economic viability, with cost savings of up to GBP 4.55 per day and a payoff period as short as 9 years. It also displays a modest emission reduction of up to 8.002 kg of CO2, which serves as proof for a pathway to greener practices in the maritime industry. This report highlights the operational flexibility that a hybrid vessel possesses once paired with a PV system through the ability to withstand regulatory and market changes. Aerodynamic noise emitted by small wind turbines is a concern due to their proximity to urban environments. Broadband airfoil self-noise has been found to be the major source, and several studies have discussed techniques to reduce airfoil leading-edge and trailing-edge noises. Reduction mechanisms inspired by owl wings and their airfoil sections were found to be most effective. However, their effect/s on the tip vortex noise remain underexplored. Therefore, this paper investigates the effects of implementing an owl airfoil design on the tip vortex noise generated by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Phase VI wind turbine to gain an understanding of the relationship, if any, between airfoil design and the tip vortex noise mechanism. Numerical prediction of aeroacoustics is employed using the Ansys Fluent Broadband Noise Sources function for airfoil self-noise radiation. Detailed comparisons and evaluations of the generated acoustic power levels (APLs) for two distinguished inlet velocities were made with no loss in torque. Although the owl airfoil design increased the maximum generated APL by the baseline model from 105 dB to 110 dB at the lower inlet velocity, it significantly reduced the surface area generating the noise, and reduced the maximum APL generated by the baseline model by 4 dB as the inlet velocity increased. The ability of the owl airfoil to mitigate the velocity effects along the span of the blade was found to be its main noise reduction mechanism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The challenges posed by climate change and global warming loom large, necessitating a critical initial step towards the long-term growth and the enhancement of both environmental and operational efficiency. Within the energy sector, renewable energy sources are gaining increasing prominence. Consequently, traditional oil and gas companies (OGC) are undergoing a gradual transformation into comprehensive energy corporations, aligning themselves with energy transition policies. This paper examines two types of efficiency measures—operational and environmental—for the 20 largest OGC during the period of 2010–2019. Secondly, this research aims to explore the effect of the global energy transition on both environmental and operational efficiency. Based on three estimation methods, two estimation steps are used in this research. In the first step, the True Fixed Effect (TFE) model and the Battese and coelli (1995) SFA model are applied to evaluate, measure and compare the environmental and operational efficiency scores. In the second step, the TFE model and GMM approach for the dynamic panel data model are used to explore, evaluate and verify the effect of global energy transition on the environmental and operational efficiency of the largest 20 OGC in the world. The results reveal that the average operational efficiency of major OGC measured using the BC.95 model and TFE model is 66% and 85%, respectively, and the overall average level of environmental efficiency for OGC over a 10-year period is 31% (based to B.C.95 model) and 13% (based to TFE model). Our findings reveal that biofuels, solar and hydropower contribute to promote the operational and environmental efficiency of the largest 20 OGC. However, the analysis suggests that while the global energy transition significantly influences and bolsters environmental efficiency, its effect on operational efficiency among these major OGC remains less pronounced and insufficient.
