The results of studying neutron signals from scintillation detectors based on a screen and wavelength-shifting fibers are presented. It is shown that the complex shape of the neutron signals arises from a low signal amplitude and fluctuation of photoelectrons in the process of light collection from the scintillator surface using optical fibers. A charge method for neutron detection using digital signal processing is proposed, which allows an appreciable increase in the detector efficiency at a high counting rate. The calculated efficiency of neutron signal discrimination at a neutron event intensity of ( n/s) is ε = 0.42. Neutron-diffraction methods are widely used for analyzing condensed matter, offering valuable insights into the internal structure and dynamics of the materials under study. The creation of new high-flux neutron sources to study promising materials and various biological systems places special demands on the operating parameters of detector systems. A new generation of position-sensitive thermal-neutron detectors should have record-breaking characteristics in terms of spatial and time resolution with a high detection efficiency. This work focuses on the exploration of new solutions for implementing detector systems in neutron-scattering stations, specifically examining the potential use and expected performance characteristics of 10B resistive plate chambers (RPCs) for detecting thermal neutrons. Two LiInSe2 single crystals, grown under different conditions, have been studied. Characteristics of these crystals for neutron detection have been compared using scintillation detection method due to the neutron capture by lithium nuclei and subsequent emission of charged particles and the conventional method of charge extraction from single-crystal surfaces due to the same nuclear reaction. In this paper, we present a prototype of a two-coordinate position-sensitive detector based on a small-area 6LiF/ZnS(Ag) scintillator fabricated using square-section spectrum-shifting optical fibers. The size of the square active area of the detecting surface (96 × 96 mm) corresponds to 16 channels along the X axis and 16 channels along the Y axis. The obtained neutron-detection efficiency is 8%. The high-resolution Fourier diffractometer (HRFD) operates at the IBR-2 pulsed reactor, on which the correlation method of data registering has been implemented using a fast Fourier chopper and specialized electronics. A wide-aperture ring back-scattering detector for HRFD has been developed. The detector consists of six Z n S (A g) / 6 L i F -scintillation rings, each one of which is divided into 12 sections. Main parameters of this detector: covered solid angle 2 θ = (133 − 175) ∘ ; Ω d ≈ 2.0 sr; average absorption efficiency 85 % , geometric contribution to resolution Δ d / d < 0.0005. Lithium–indium diselenide (LiInSe2) is a new semiconductor material, sensitive to the thermal neutrons. LiInSe2 compound was synthesized from Li (99.99%), In (99.999%) and Se (99.999%). The growth of LiInSe2 single crystals was performed using the vertical option of Bridgman–Stockbarger method. The crystals were characterized using the electrical conductivity and optical spectroscopy methods. Stoichiometric composition of the LiInSe2 was confirmed by the high precision chemical analysis, as well as by X-ray diffraction. Compact 252Cf neutron source with the activity 6.3 × 105 n/s allowed measuring amplitude characteristics and defining the optimal operating voltage for neutron detection. The design and main characteristics of a test setup for studying the serviceability of the bead cryogenic neutron moderator and determining its optimal operating conditions on the fast pulsed IBR-2 reactor are presented. Using the test setup, the possibility has been demonstrated of filling the moderator chamber with the working medium-beads of a mixture of aromatic hydrocarbons, delivered to the chamber by a cold ( T < 85 K) helium gas flow over an intricately shaped cryogenic pipeline system. The article discusses the development of a new gas multi-section ring-shaped detector (MSRD) at the Frank Laboratory of Neutron Physics (FLNP) of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) in Dubna, Russia. The MSRD, which was developed for the study of samples in small quantities at high pressures, has 16 sections with equal gas volume distribution. It also cites the advantages of MSRD such as large working volume and efficiency.
