The development of in-memory computing hardware components based on different types of resistive materials is an active research area. These materials usually exhibit analog memory states originating from a wide range of physical mechanisms and offer rich prospects for their integration in artificial neural networks. The resistive states are classified as either non-volatile or volatile, and switching occurs when the material properties are triggered by an external stimulus such as temperature, current, voltage, or electric field. The non-volatile resistance state change is typically achieved by the switching layer’s local redox reaction that involves both electronic and ionic movement. In contrast, a volatile change in the resistance state arises due to the transition of the switching layer from an insulator to a metal. Here, we demonstrate volatile resistive switching in twinned LaAlO3 onto which strained thin films of La0.67Sr0.33MnO3 (LSMO) are deposited. An electric current induces phase transition that triggers resistive switching, close to the competing phase transition temperature in LSMO, enabled by the strong correlation between the electronic and magnetic ground states, intrinsic to such materials. This phase transition, characterized by an abrupt resistance change, is typical of a metallic to insulating behavior, due to Joule heating, and manifested as a sharp increase in the voltage with accompanying hysteresis. Our results show that such Joule heating-induced hysteretic resistive switching exhibits different profiles that depend on the substrate texture along the current path, providing an interesting direction toward new multifunctional in-memory computing devices.

Ti$_3$C$_2$T$_X$ nano-sheets (MXenes) are an emerging class oftwo-dimensional materials with outstanding potential to be employed in energystorage, catalysis, and triboelectric applications, on length scales rangingfrom the nano- to macroscopic. Despite rapidly accelerating interest in thisnew class of materials, their nanoscale frictional properties and inparticular, their potential for solid lubrication on the nanoscale, have notbeen explored in detail yet. In this short communication, we present the firstresults on the nanoscale frictional characteristics of MXenes, in the form of afriction map obtained on an isolated Ti$_3$C$_2$T$_x$ nano-sheet deposited on asilicon dioxide substrate via friction force microscopy. Our experiments revealthat few-layer Ti$_3$C$_2$T$_x$ nano-sheets indeed act as solid lubricants onthe nanoscale, reducing friction on the silicon dioxide substrates, althoughnot as effectively as few-layer graphene. The results reported here pave theway for further studies focusing on nanoscale solid lubrication achieved byTi$_3$C$_2$T$_X$ (MXene) nano-sheets.

Background: Current treatments for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are relatively futile and the extended use of drugs may reduce effectiveness. Several probiotic strains have shown promise in relieving/treating IBD symptoms. Objectives: The current study investigated the impact of fermented soymilk with a mixture of probiotic starter cultures containing Lactobacillus rhamnosus, L. casei, L. plantarum, L. acidophilus, Bifidobacterium longum, and B. animalis subsp. lactis in rats with dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis compared to control. Methods: Rats were randomly assigned to five groups (5 rats/group; n = 25): G1: negative normal control; G2: positive control (DSS); G3: DSS with sulfasalazine (DSS-Z); G4: DSS with soymilk (DSS-SM), and G5: DSS with fermented soymilk (DSS-FSM). Parameters monitored included the following: the disease activity index (DAI), macroscopic and histological assessments of colitis, and a fecal microbial analysis performed to assess the severity of inflammation and ulceration. Results: The DSS-FSM rats group exhibited lower DAI scores (p < 0.05) than other treated groups during the induction period. A macroscopical examination revealed no ulceration or swelling in the intestinal mucosa of rats in the DSS-FSM-treated group, resembling the findings in the negative control group. In the positive control (DSS group), the colon tissue showed increased inflammation (p < 0.05), whereas those in the DSS-SM- and DSS-FSM-treated rats groups did not show significant macroscopic scores of colitis. The positive DSS control and DSS-Z groups had crypt erosion and ulceration areas, severe crypt damage, and epithelial surface erosion, which were absent in the negative control and DSS-FSM groups. The counts of Lactobacillus spp. and Bifidobacterium spp. remained stable in both G1 and G5 over 4 weeks. The consumption of fermented soymilk with a mixture of probiotics could minimize the severity of DSS-induced colitis in rats. Conclusion, it was found that fermented soymilk containing Lactobacilli and Bifidobacterium might be an effective vehicle for reducing the severity of DSS-induced colitis in rats. Background/Objectives: An Android platform-based customised app and web-linked system was developed to aid in implementing selected nutrition interventions by community health workers (CHWs) in a community-based cluster randomised trial (c-RCT) in rural Bangladesh. Methods: Here, we describe the architecture of the intervention delivery system, and explore feasibility of employing mHealth as CHWs' job aid, employing a mixed-method study design covering 17 visits per mother-child dyad. We analysed CHWs' real-time visit information from monitoring and documentation data, and CHWs' qualitative interviews to explore the advantages and barriers of using mHealth as a job aid. Results: Intervention coverage was high across the arms (>90%), except around the narrow perinatal period (51%) due to mothers' cultural practice of moving to their parents' homes and/or hospitals for childbirth. CHWs mentioned technical and functional advantages of the job aid including device portability, easy navigability of content, pictorial demonstration that improved communication, easy information entry, and automated daily scheduling of tasks. Technical challenges included charging tablets, especially in power cut-prone areas, deteriorated battery capacity over continuous device usage, unstable internet network in unsupportive weather conditions, and device safety. Nevertheless, onsite supervision and monitoring by expert supervisors remained important to ensure intervention quality. Conclusions: With appropriate training and supervision, CHWs utilised the tablet-based app proficiently, attaining high coverage of long-term visits. mHealth was thus useful for designing, planning, scheduling, and delivering nutrition interventions through CHWs, and for monitoring and supervision by supervisors. Therefore, this application and job aid can be adopted or replicated into the currently developing national health systems platform for improving coverage and quality of preventive maternal and child nutrition services. In addition, continuous supportive supervision by skilled supervisors must be accompanied to ensure CHWs' task quality. Finally, future studies should rigorously assess undesirable health and environmental effects of mHealth before and after mainstreaming, effective interventions addressing device-induced health hazards should be designed and scaled up, and effective e-waste management must be ensured. In the present study we have disclosed here that ZnO nanorod (ZnO‐NR) can effectively be used as a catalyst for various C−C bond formation reactions, i. e. allylation, as well as one‐pot three components conjugate addition and Knoevenagel‐allylation of isatins. The corresponding products were obtained with good to excellent yields under solvent‐free conditions in most cases at RT. The catalyst was successfully recycled for up to five cycles for allylation reaction and one pot three components Knoevenagel‐allylation reaction of isatin. X‐ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used to characterize the structure and morphology of the catalyst. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
