The digital terrain model (DTM), the representation of earth's surface at regularly spaced intervals, is the first input in the computational modelling of atmospheric flows. The ability of computational meshes based on high- (2 m; airborne laser scanning, ASL), medium- (10 m; military maps, Mil) and low-resolution (30 m; Shuttle Radar Topography Mission, SRTM) DTMs to replicate the Perdigão experiment site was appraised in two ways: by their ability to replicate the two main terrain attributes, elevation and slope, and by their effect on the wind flow computational results. The effect on the flow modelling was evaluated by comparing the wind speed, wind direction and turbulent kinetic energy using VENTOS®/2 at three locations, representative of the wind flow in the region. It was found that the SRTM was not an accurate representation of the Perdigão site. A 40 m mesh based on the highest-resolution data yielded an elevation error of less than 1.4 m and an RMSE of less than 2.5 m at five reference points compared to 5.0 m in the case of military maps and 7.6 m in the case of the SRTM. Mesh refinement beyond 40 m yielded no or insignificant changes on the flow field variables, wind speed, wind direction and turbulent kinetic energy. At least 40 m horizontal resolution – threshold resolution – based on topography available from aerial surveys is recommended in computational modelling of the flow over Perdigão.

The detection of genetic alterations in patients with acute leukemias is essential for the targeting of more specific and effective therapies. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare the sensitivity of Nested-PCR and RT-qPCR techniques in the detection of genetic alterations in patients with acute leukemias. This study included samples from 117 patients treated at the Fortaleza General Hospital. All samples were submitted to analysis using the Nested-PCR and the RT-qPCR techniques. Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) patients’ samples were submitted to the analysis of the following alterations: FLT3-ITD, RUNX1::RUNX1T1, CBFB::MYH11 and PML::RARA; meanwhile, BCR::ABL1, TCF3::PBX1, KMT2A::AFF1, ETV6::RUNX1, and STIL::TAL1 fusions were investigated in the Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) patients’ samples. Throughout the study, 77 patients were diagnosed with AML and 40 with ALL. Among the 77 AML patients, FLT3-ITD, RUNX1::RUNX1T1, PML::RARA, and CBFB::MYH11 were detected in 4, 7, 10 and 8 patients, respectively. Among the 40 ALL patients, the presence of 23 patients with BCR::ABL1 translocation and 9 patients with TCF3::PBX1 translocation was observed through the RT-qPCR methodology. Overall, the present study demonstrated that the RT-qPCR technique presented a higher sensitivity when compared to the Nested-PCR technique at the time of diagnosis of the acute leukemia samples studied.

Abstract Background The 22q11.2 Deletion Syndrome (22q11.2 DS) presents unique healthcare challenges for affected individuals, families, and healthcare systems. Despite its rarity, 22q11.2 DS is the most common microdeletion syndrome in humans, emphasizing the need to understand and address the distinctive healthcare requirements of those affected. This paper examines the multifaceted issue of health service access and caregivers’ quality of life in the context of 22q11.2 DS in Brazil, a condition with diverse signs and symptoms requiring multidisciplinary care. This study employs a comprehensive approach to evaluate health service accessibility and the quality of life of caregivers of individuals with 22q11.2 DS. It utilizes a structured Survey and the WHOQOL-bref questionnaire for data collection. Results Individuals with 22q11.2 DS continue to receive incomplete clinical management after obtaining the diagnosis, even in the face of socioeconomic status that enabled an average age of diagnosis that precedes that found in sample groups that are more representative of the Brazilian population (mean of 3.2 years versus 10 years, respectively). In turn, caring for individuals with 22q11.2 DS who face difficulty accessing health services impacts the quality of life associated with the caregivers' environment of residence. Conclusions Results obtained help bridge the research gap in understanding how caring for individuals with multisystem clinical conditions such as 22q11.2 DS and difficulties in accessing health are intertwined with aspects of quality of life in Brazil. This research paves the way for more inclusive healthcare policies and interventions to enhance the quality of life for families affected by this syndrome.

The trypsin inhibitor isolated from tamarind seeds (TTI) is being investigated for potential applications in the treatment of noncommunicable diseases (NCD), such as hypertension, obesity, and diabetes. This study aimed to assess TTI embryotoxicity and acute toxicity in adult zebrafish (Danio rerio). TTI was extracted and isolated from tamarind seeds. Embryonic and adult zebrafish were exposed for 96 hours to three concentrations of TTI (12.5, 25, and 50 mg/L). Zebrafish embryos (n=60 per group) were evaluated for survival, hatching, malformations, and potential developmental marker alterations, in addition to cardiotoxicity and neurotoxicity tests. For acute toxicity assessment in adults (n=20 per group), survival and locomotor and anxiety-like behaviors were assessed, along with genotoxicity (micronucleus) evaluation. Embryos exposed to TTI showed no significant adverse effects, presented normal heart rates and positive reflex response in the neurotoxicity tests. In adult fish, TTI did not cause mortality or significant behavioral changes, suggesting no neurotoxicity and no genotoxicity. Histopathological analyses of the whole body showed only changes in the liver and spinal cord, similar to those observed in the control group not exposed to TTI. These findings indicate TTI's biosafety and therapeutic potential in complex organisms. Further research is required to evaluate its long-term effects and efficacy in treating non-communicable diseases.

Abstract Objective: To investigate factors associated with tuberculosis deaths in Mato Grosso state, Brazil, from 2011 to 2020. Methods: Retrospective cohort study with data obtained from the Notifiable Health Conditions Information System and the Mortality Information System. Deaths were qualified using probabilistic linkage and analyzed using Poisson regression. Results: 12,331 cases and 525 deaths were identified over 10 years. The factors associated with death were: age ≥60 years (RR: 7.70; 95%CI 1.91;31.04), incomplete elementary and high school education (RR: 3.66; 95%CI 1.34;9.96), illiteracy (RR: 4.50; 95%CI 1.60;12.66), homeless population (RR: 2.41; 95%CI 1.34;4.35), alcohol use (RR: 1.45; 95%CI 1.04;2.02), male sex (RR: 1.48; 95%CI 1.04;2.09) and tobacco use (RR: 1.32; 95%CI 0.98;1.77). Laboratory confirmation was a protective factor. Conclusion: Risk of death was higher in men over 60 years old, with low education levels, in vulnerable situations, and who used alcohol/tobacco.

Objetivos: Este estudo objetivou construir e auferir evidências de validação de uma cartilha educativa para pessoas com doença falciforme, contendo oito práticas voltadas a promover a saúde visando a melhor qualidade de vida. Métodos: Trata-se de estudo metodológico realizado a partir da construção do material educativo, com posterior validação por juízes especialistas na área, e pelo público-alvo. Para estruturação do conteúdo, foi realizada revisão narrativa da literatura, bem como consulta a especialistas. O desenvolvimento e operacionalização do gênero textual levou em conta um modo lúdico e atrativo ao escolher o formato do produto educativo, elegendo-se o formato de história em quadrinhos. A validação de conteúdo foi estabelecida levando-se em conta o Content Validity Index (CVI) maior do que 80%. Resultados: Todos os juízes especialistas concordaram que a cartilha aborda hábitos que podem ser benéficos a indivíduos com doença falciforme. Foram aceitas as sugestões enviadas, como simplificação do vocabulário, troca do tipo de fonte, aumento da arte das hemácias e outras. Todos os itens foram avaliados como pertinentes, e o CVI alcançou média de 0,96. Após os ajustes sugeridos pelos juízes, o material foi apresentado a dez pessoas adultas com doença falciforme que o aprovaram. Conclusões: A cartilha foi considerada válida pela confiabilidade reconhecida por profissionais especializados em doença falciforme e em qualidade de vida quanto ao conteúdo, incluindo linguagem adotada, temas abordados e ilustrações. Sugere-se utilizar a história em quadrinhos nas redes sociais e por meio impresso para distribuição de profissionais de saúde e agentes comunitários.

Abstract Recombinant multiepitope proteins (RMPs) are a promising alternative for application in diagnostic tests and, given their wide application in the most diverse diseases, this review article aims to survey the use of these antigens for diagnosis, as well as discuss the main points surrounding these antigens. RMPs usually consisting of linear, immunodominant, and phylogenetically conserved epitopes, has been applied in the experimental diagnosis of various human and animal diseases, such as leishmaniasis, brucellosis, cysticercosis, Chagas disease, hepatitis, leptospirosis, leprosy, filariasis, schistosomiasis, dengue, and COVID-19. The synthetic genes for these epitopes are joined to code a single RMP, either with spacers or fused, with different biochemical properties. The epitopes’ high density within the RMPs contributes to a high degree of sensitivity and specificity. The RMPs can also sidestep the need for multiple peptide synthesis or multiple recombinant proteins, reducing costs and enhancing the standardization conditions for immunoassays. Methods such as bioinformatics and circular dichroism have been widely applied in the development of new RMPs, helping to guide their construction and better understand their structure. Several RMPs have been expressed, mainly using the Escherichia coli expression system, highlighting the importance of these cells in the biotechnological field. In fact, technological advances in this area, offering a wide range of different strains to be used, make these cells the most widely used expression platform. RMPs have been experimentally used to diagnose a broad range of illnesses in the laboratory, suggesting they could also be useful for accurate diagnoses commercially. On this point, the RMP method offers a tempting substitute for the production of promising antigens used to assemble commercial diagnostic kits.

Objective: To develop growth charts for weight-for-age, height-for-age, and body mass index (BMI)-for-age for both genders aged 2 to 18 years for Brazilian patients with Williams-Beuren Syndrome (WBS). Methods: This is a multicenter, retrospective, and longitudinal study, data were collected from the medical records of boys and girls with a confirmed diagnosis of WBS in three large university centers in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Growth charts stratified by gender and age in years were developed using LMSchartmaker Pro software. The LMS (Lambda Mu Sigma) method was used to model the charts . The quality of the settings was checked by worm plots. Results: The first Brazilian growth charts for weight-for-age, height-for-age, and BMI-for-age stratified by gender were constructed for WBS patients aged 2 to 18 years. Conclusion: The growth charts developed in this study can help to guide family members and to improve the health care offered by health professionals.

Abstract Glioblastoma (GB) is the most common type of malignant tumor of the central nervous system, responsible for significant morbidity and with a 5-year overall relative survival of only 6.8%. Without advances in treatment in the last twenty years, the standard of care continues to be maximum safe resection, Temozolomide (TMZ), and radiotherapy. Many new trials are ongoing, and despite showing increased progression-free survival, these trials did not improve overall survival. They did not consider the adverse effects of these therapies. Therefore, an increasing number of bioprospecting studies have used snake venom molecules to search for new strategies to attack GB selectively without producing side effects. The present review aims to describe GB characteristics and current and new approaches for treatment considering their side effects. Besides, we focused on the antitumoral activity of snake venom proteins from the Viperidae family against GB, exploring the potential for drug design based on in vitro and in vivo studies. This review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines. In January 2024, a systematic search was performed in the PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science databases from January 2000 to December 2023. Search terms were selected based on the population/exposure/outcome (PEO) framework and combined using Boolean operators ("AND", "OR"). The search strategy used these terms: glioblastoma, glioma, high-grade glioma, WHO IV glioma, brain cancer, snake venom, Viperidae, and bioprospection. We identified 10 in vivo and in vitro studies with whole and isolated proteins from Viperidae venom that could have antitumor activity against glioblastoma. Studies in bioprospecting exploring the advantage of snake venom proteins against GB deserve to be investigated due to their high specificity, small size, inherent bioactivity, and few side effects to cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB) to reach the tumor microenvironment.

ABSTRACT Insulinomas are rare neoplasms of the endocrine pancreas. Minimally invasive treatment options for insulinomas have gained prominence, replacing surgical resection due to its associated morbidity and mortality. Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) has emerged as a relevant treatment option. We present a case of a female patient with neuroglycopenic symptoms and severe hypoglycemic crises. The abdominal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a small nodular lesion in the pancreatic body. Laparotomy was performed, followed by RFA using a 15-mm active-tipped needle. No complications transpired, and no hypoglycemic episodes were observed during 12 months of follow-up.

Resumo Por meio de um esforço analítico-interpretativo de releitura dos fatos históricos apresentados acerca da ideia, da proposta, do movimento e do processo da Reforma Sanitária Brasileira (RSB), e à luz das teorias e críticas decolonial e feminista negra, este artigo de cunho ensaístico tem como objetivo propor um giro epistemológico e político para uma práxis sanitária decolonial. Em um primeiro momento, reflete acerca de alguns pontos de incoerência de certas dimensões da RSB que possivelmente contribuíram para que houvesse promessas não cumpridas em sua proposta. Na segunda parte do trabalho, (re)posiciona a analítica concernente à situação de colonialidade no Brasil com relação ao que está em jogo, na tentativa de “redemocratizar a vida” neste país. Finalmente, evidencia-se que, apesar de haver muito a avançar, asseguradamente a RSB não é um “movimento desnaturado”.

Abstract Amylases, crucial in various industries such as food, textile, and biofuels, require optimized production and biochemical characterization. Thus, this study aimed to produce amylases from Rhizopus sp. I 1.2.1, characterize the cultivation conditions and the synthesized enzyme. The fungus was molecularly identified with 99.06% homology in the LSU gene, 98.08% identity in the ITS region, and placed phylogenetically closer to Rhizopus arrhizus CBS 112,07. The LSU gene and ITS region sequences were deposited in GenBank. The CP medium was optimal for amylase production by Rhizopus arrhizus, with peak activity on the 6th day. Supplementation with urea significantly increased amylolytic activity by 110-fold. CP salts outperformed other salts in enzyme production, achieving a maximum amylase activity of 15.5 U/ml. The pH 6.0 was optimal for amylase production, with higher specific activity at pH 5.0. Pumpkin peel and pineapple peel were the best carbon sources for amylase production with an amylolytic activity of 18 and 16 U/mL, respectively. The amylase production showed a significant increase when pineapple peel was used in the presence of glucose 0.5% showing an activity of 22.4 U/mL, representing a 1.5- and 1.6-fold increase over the control. The optimal reaction of the amylase was observed at pH 6.0 and 60 °C. The enzyme remained stable for 240 minutes at 50-55 °C and at pH 4.0-7.0. Amylase was inhibited by glucose concentration and certain salts, but EDTA and K2SO4 increased activity by 25%. These results suggest industrial potential based on residual carbon source use, cultivation conditions, and crude enzyme stability.

This work discusses the relationship between digital disconnection and the violation of rights in Quilombola territories. Quilombolas are an ethnic-racial group with Black origins associated with oppression and resistance over the centuries in Brazil. The research was conducted with 41 women aged between 18 and 73 who are leaders in 35 remaining Quilombola communities in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The impacts of limited access to information and communications technology (ICT) were assessed using an intersectional perspective, considering social markers of difference such as gender, social class, ethnic-racial belonging, and territory. The results show that 11 territories lack internet service, significantly restricting access to information, health, education, and social participation. The research points to the need for considering digital inequity as another matrix of intersectional oppression, as being disconnected or having restrictions on access and use of ICT increases the vulnerability of these territories, especially for the Quilombola women.

Este artigo assenta numa Revisão Sistemática de Literatura (RSL), sobre Educação em Ciência-Tecnologia-Sociedade (CTS) promotora do Pensamento crítico (PC), tendo como questão de investigação “Que quadros de referência sustentam propostas didáticas com orientação CTS promotoras do PC?”. Os objetivos consistem em caracterizar a perspetiva do processo de ensino e aprendizagem (ensino/papel do Professor, aprendizagem/papel do Aluno, conceção de: a Ciência, o cientista, a Tecnologia) e explorar os elementos de concretização do processo de ensino e aprendizagem (estratégias, atividades de ensino, recursos e materiais, ambiente de sala de aula). Definiram-se termos de pesquisa nas bases de dados SCOPUS, Web of Science, RCAAP, critérios de inclusão/exclusão seguindo o protocolo PRISMA. Constituiu-se corpus de 12 artigos recorrendo à análise de conteúdo. Resultados revelam a necessidade de construir, validar e implementar novos recursos didáticos CTS/PC, em contexto de sala de aula. Estes deverão: (i) ser concebidos e implementados em contexto real de educação em ciências; (ii) resultar de um processo reflexivo de desenvolvimento e melhoria das propostas didáticas; (iii) promover, intencional e explicitamente, o PC dos alunos e (iv) envolver todos os participantes no desenvolvimento das propostas didáticas. Este artigo contribui para a discussão/reflexão acerca das orientações e especificações de desenvolvimento de propostas didáticas CTS/PC, operacionalização e implementação, para a formação de cidadãos conscientes, participativos, com literacia científica (LC), numa sociedade democrática.

Chagas disease (CD), caused by the protozoan Trypanosoma cruzi, is an important public health problem, occurring mainly in Latin America. The disease has a major social and economical effect, negatively impacting the life of the infected individuals, and bringing great costs to public health. An early and accurate diagnosis is essential for administration of early treatment. In addition, prognostic tests may aid disease management, decreasing hospitalization costs. However, the serological diagnostic scenario for CD still faces several challenges, making the development of new diagnostic kits a pressing matter. Facing this scenario, several researchers have expanded efforts in developing and testing new antigens, such as recombinant proteins and recombinant multiepitope proteins, with promising results. These recombinant antigens offer several advantages, such as improved sensitivity and specificity, in addition to facilitated scaling. Also, it has been possible to observe a rising number of studies using ELISA and point-of-care platforms, employing these antigens in the past few years. Among them, recombinant proteins were the most applied antigens, demonstrating great capacity to discriminate between positive and negative samples. Although fewer in number, recombinant multiepitope proteins also demonstrated an improved diagnostic performance. Indeed, a great number of studies employing these antigens showed sensitivity and specificity values above 90%, greatly impacting diagnostic accuracy. Nevertheless, despite the good results found, it is still possible to observe some bottlenecks in the development of new antigens, such as the scarcity of tests with sera from the acute phase and the variability of results in different geographic areas. In this sense, aiming to contribute to control and health programs, the continuous search for a more accurate serological diagnosis is essential, both for the acute and chronic phases of the disease.

Objective: This study aimed to analyze the associated implications and outcomes of diaphragmatic paralysis following pediatric cardiac surgery at a center specializing in congenital heart diseases. Methods: The eligibility criteria for this cross-sectional study included patients who underwent surgery between January 2020 and June 2021. We collected sociodemographic, anthropometric, cardiac diagnostic, surgical, diaphragmatic paralysis diagnostic, ventilatory, and temporal variables and those related to the outcome of diaphragmatic paralysis and hospital outcomes. We conducted descriptive and inferential (logistic regression model) statistical analysis. Results: Among a total of 246 patients, a prevalence of 2.4% of diaphragmatic paralysis was estimated, predominantly in those with cyanotic congenital heart disease. Patients with extubation failure were 3.59 times more likely to have diaphragmatic paralysis (p0.05). Unilateral diaphragm injury and the necessity for surgical treatment by plication were predominant. All patients with diaphragmatic paralysis were in the intensive care unit discharged. Conclusion: Extubation failure and non-invasive support were associated with diaphragmatic paralysis. Outcomes included diaphragmatic plication and subsequent discharge from the intensive care unit.

Este texto tem como objetivo principal examinar o processo de autoavaliação desenvolvido no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação de uma universidade privada. Para tanto, estabeleceu-se com outro programa, de uma universidade confessional, uma parceria para avaliar a adequação dos 87 resumos das dissertações defendidas no mestrado em Educação, no período de 2017 a 2020. A partir dos descritores de autoavaliação, definidos pela Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior, avaliou-se o contexto institucional. O procedimento metodológico foi avaliar, por meio de um instrumento avaliativo, a presença ou não de indicadores de qualidade dos referidos resumos. Após a análise dos dados, constatou-se que há uma demanda pelo aperfeiçoamento dos resumos e uma necessidade de revisão do instrumento avaliativo.

Objetivo: Avaliar o conhecimento sobre Diabetes Mellitus tipo 2. Métodos: Estudo transversal com abordagem quantitativa com 360 portadores de Diabetes Mellitus tipo 2. A coleta dos dados foi realizada através do questionário Escala de Conhecimento de Diabetes. Para análise foi utilizada a regressão de Poisson, modelagem hierarquizada e estimação das razões de prevalências. Resultados: A média da idade foi de 61,85 anos (±10,99), o sexo feminino teve 71,94%, a cor parda foi de 59,72%, a ocupação de 48,89% para aposentados/pensionistas, renda familiar de 1 a 2 salários mínimos 62,50%, a escolaridade de 43,06% com ensino fundamental, 57,22% viviam com companheiro e 35,56% possuíam o diagnóstico de diabetes mellitus de 5 a 14 anos, a maioria possuía comorbidades 80,28%, mais da metade não apresentava complicações 68,06% e cerca de 48,89% usavam medicações antidiabéticas. Dos entrevistados 71,67% obtiveram escores superiores a 8, indicando um grau elevado de conhecimento sobre a doença, houve associação estatística com o tempo de diagnóstico de 5 a 14 anos (p: 0,034), tempo de diagnóstico de 15 a 24 anos (p: 0,043) e faixa etária de 40 a 59 anos (p:

Abstract Influenza A(H7N9) virus showed high pathogenicity in humans when it emerged in 2013. Cigarette smoke (CS) causes pulmonary diseases including bronchitis, emphysema, and lung cancer. Although habitual smoking is thought to increase the risk of severe seasonal influenza virus infection, its effect on A(H7N9) virus infection is poorly understood. Here, we employed a mouse model of long-term exposure to CS to investigate the effect of CS on the pathogenicity of A(H7N9) virus infection. Unexpectedly, body weight loss for mice exposed to CS was milder than that for mock-treated mice upon A(H7N9) virus infection. CS exposure improved the survival rate of A(H7N9) virus-infected mice even though virus titers and pathological changes in the lungs were not significantly different between CS-exposed and control mice. Microarray analysis showed that CS-exposure activates cytokine/chemokine activity, immune response, and cell cycle activities that resemble reactivities against A(H7N9) virus infection. Therefore, under conditions where cytokine and chemokine expression in the lungs is already high due to CS exposure, the enhanced expression of cytokines and chemokines caused by A(H7N9) virus infection might be less harmful to the organs compared to the rapid increase in cytokine and chemokine expression in the air-exposed mice due to the infection. CS may thus induce immunoregulatory effects that attenuate severe pulmonary disease during A(H7N9) virus infection. However, these findings do not support CS exposure due to its many other proven negative health effects.

O presente trabalho teve por objetivo analisar a percepção dos alunos de ensino médio da região central do Paraná em relação ao empreendedorismo. Para tanto, parte-se do princípio de que a educação empreendedora pode ser pautada no conceito de empreendedorismo como mudança social. Como procedimento metodológico, foi realizada uma pesquisa Quantitativa Exploratória, por meio da aplicação de um questionário adaptado a 2.128 alunos matriculados em 41 escolas de 13 municípios da região central do Paraná. Como resultados, foram categorizados cinco grupos de percepção empreendedora: Empreendedores desmotivados; Empregados dedicados; Empreendedores com forte apoio; Família em primeiro lugar; e Trabalho faz o empreendedor. De forma geral, conclui-se que os alunos sabem o que é empreendedorismo e percebem a importância deste como uma alternativa de carreira, embora a maioria não acredite no seu potencial e não se veja como um empreendedor. Somado a isso, a percepção dos alunos é de que o empreendedorismo está relacionado ao esforço individual com objetivo de abrir uma empresa. Ou seja, falta um trabalho sobre a questão comportamental e sobre a contribuição e os impactos do empreendedorismo na perspectiva da mudança social.

Resumo Esta revisão visa identificar e descrever intervenções realizadas para promover o clima ético em instituições de saúde. Foi feita revisão de escopo nas bases PubMed, Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde, EBSCOhost e Google Acadêmico, entre outubro e dezembro de 2022. Os dados foram analisados mediante síntese numérica e temática. Foram incluídos três estudos: dois quase-experimentais e um experimental. Médicos, enfermeiros e outros membros da equipe participaram da pesquisa. São descritas intervenções realizadas e resultados obtidos. As intervenções foram workshops, rodadas de ética e protocolo de ação precoce. A duração variou de duas semanas a seis meses. Houve diferença do clima ético para todos os participantes em um estudo; apenas para enfermeiros em outro; e não houve diferença em uma das pesquisas. Poucos artigos implementam e avaliam intervenções para promover o clima ético. Assim, são necessárias mais investigações que aprimorem conteúdo, didática e modos de avaliação em contextos variados e com diferentes profissionais.

Os temas sociocientíficos são importantes, pois, permitem compreender as superações da atualidade, temas resultantes das discussões de uma era globalizada em meio ao desenvolvimento da ciência e tecnologia, surgida com vigor a partir da revolução industrial. Este projeto de pesquisa visou a identificação na proposta curricular, Projeto Político Pedagógico de escolas públicas de Benjamin Constant, com ações relacionadas aos temas sociocientíficos, verificando como ocorre a contextualização de tais temas no âmbito escolar. O projeto foi executado em quatro instituições de ensino básico, sendo: Escola Municipal Cosme Jean, Escola Municipal Graziela Correa de Oliveira, Escola Municipal Margarete Coelho e Escola Municipal Olavo Bilac. Os dados foram obtidos a partir da pesquisa documental, onde foi feito análise dos Projetos Políticos Pedagógicos das instituições em estudo. Os resultados demonstraram que os temas sociocientíficos, presentes nos PPPs, desde a conteúdos relacionados a gravidez na adolescência, educação sexual, pluralidade cultural, bem como, a temas que estejam voltados a educação ambiental e meio ambiente, encontram-se estagnados diante de propostas que devem ser atualizadas levando em consideração as constantes mudanças que ocorrem na sociedade. Deste modo, as instituições, buscam nas abordagens dos temas a contextualização do que se é trabalhado, conciliando sociedade e ciência, uma vez que estas são primordiais para garantir uma visão crítica dos alunos sobre os efeitos que acometem na sociedade. Espera-se que os resultados, desta pesquisa, possam auxiliar na projeção de projetos e a atividades para o desenvolvimento científico no ensino local e a potencialização da abordagem dos temas sociocientíficos nas escolas.

This article weaves together the analysis of contemporary studies and a brief repertoire of queer artists with identity issues and their intersectional relations. Through the notion of the body as a territory of political action, we examine how they have addressed, in creation, issues concerning identity, gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, and class, which we consider to be urgent in terms of raising awareness and inciting political transformations inherent in antihegemonic artistic and pedagogical processes. Since one of the authors is a practitioner of drag queen, the body’s role in research matters. Nowadays, the recent category of drag queer and their associated subgenres enables us to engage in a dialogue with the concept of post-drag, as proposed by Luc Schicharin.

Este artigo entrela-ça a análise de estudos contemporâneos e um breve repertório de artistas queer com as questões identitárias e suas relações de interseccionalidade. A partir da noção de corpo como território de ação política, analisa-se como abordam em suas criações as questões de identidade, gênero e sexualidade, raça, etnia e classe, que se consideram urgentes para dar visibilidade e provocar as transformações políticas implicadas nos processos artísticos e pedagógicos contra-hegemônicos. Sendo um dos autores um artista praticante de drag queen, interessa a experiência do corpo como pesquisa. Atualmente, a categoria recente da drag queer e os subgêne-ros dela derivados possibilitam dialogar com o conceito de pós-drag, levantado por Luc Schicharin.

A presente pesquisa pretende identificar as principais tendências que cercam a temática Experimentação. Para tanto optou-se por um estudo do tipo exploratório, perpassando uma revisão bibliográfica feita na Plataforma Lattes a respeito das lideranças da área de Ciências da Natureza que tem como foco em suas pesquisas a Experimentação atrelada a outros temas. Para as análises, seguimos a Análise Textual Discursiva (ATD) e assim encontramos quatro categorias que se delineiam ao longo da escrita. Durante as análises, chegamos a resultados que apontam tendências significativas ao longo do tempo (2018-2022), estas caminham junto ao contexto da Experimentação, na tentativa de ampliar as possibilidades do trabalho experimental, rumo a novos desafios para cursos de formação de professores e pesquisadores da área de Educação em Ciências.

The oceans are one of the final destinations for the vast majority of plastic waste; in this sense, particles smaller than 5 mm, classified as microplastics (MPs), represent an environmental challenge with global impact on several ecosystems. The work evaluated the presence of MPs in marine waters off the northern coast of Santa Catarina (Brazil), addressing sampling procedures, opening, characterization, and polymer identification. A low-cost equipment developed with easily accessible materials was tested in the sampling, showing excellent results in terms of buoyancy, stability, and mechanical strength. The concentration of MPs obtained in the study was 0.01 MPs per m3. The particles found were analyzed by stereomicroscopy and classified according to morphological aspects in relation to shape into fragments 58,00%, films 25,00%, and lines 17,00%, and regarding the aspect related to color, blue was predominant. The characterization and polymeric identification was performed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy coupled to the total attenuated reflectance module (FTIR-ATR). The types of polymers identified were: polyethylene 33,33%; polypropylene 25,00%; butadiene-styrene copolymer 25,00%, and cellulose 16,66%. The work contributed to the evaluation of an area not yet studied in relation to the presence of MPs in marine waters, while at the same time described in detail the methodologies for analyzing microplastics proposed in the specialized literature.

As alterações climáticas (AC) são a maior evidência da “metamorfose do mundo” e estão a mudar os regimes de temperatura e de pluviosidade, mas também os sistemas sociais, culturais e de saúde no planeta Terra. A imprevisibilidade dos fenómenos climáticos e os seus impactes multidimensionais na saúde humana e ambiental contribuem para tornar a nossa compreensão do mundo cada vez mais difícil. Além disso, a história provou que a tecnociência, sozinha, não é suficiente para lidar com estes problemas. Um apelo global está agora a despertar para que as humanidades e as ciências sociais também lidem com as questões humanas e não humanas levantadas pelas AC, nomeadamente através da sua integração com as áreas da saúde e da sustentabilidade. Este artigo tem como objetivo apresentar e discutir alguns dos primeiros resultados da rede transdisciplinar Compor Mundos: Humanidades, Bem-Estar e Saúde, que consiste numa rede de especialistas em humanidades, ciências sociais e da saúde que pensam sobre as questões do bem-estar e da saúde nas sociedades tecnológicas contemporâneas. A metodologia usada na primeira fase do projeto consistiu numa entrevista com perguntas abertas, construída de forma participativa pela rede de 12 investigadores. Tratou-se de uma pesquisa exploratória que utilizou a análise temática para identificar as ideias-chave originais de cada autor e a indução dos temas principais correspondentes. Os temas foram então organizados em grupos de correspondência semântica, ou clusters temáticos. Espera-se que alguns destes clusters contribuam para discutir como as AC já alteraram as nossas maneiras de ser, viver e pensar sobre o mundo, e contribuam também para lidar com os desafios relacionados com os riscos das AC na saúde e no bem-estar ao longo do século XXI.

Esse artigo examina intersecções entre Inteligência Artificial Generativa e emoções humanas, questionando a capacidade das máquinas de replicar e compreender emoções. As emoções têm sido diferenciadoras entre humanos e máquinas, porém, avanços na IA têm desafiado essa noção. Enquanto a IA Generativa cria sistemas capazes de gerar conteúdos e simulações emocionais, a neurociência revela mecanismos cerebrais subjacentes às emoções, com destaque para os estudos de António Damásio. A pesquisa se baseia em revisão bibliográfica qualitativa sobre emoções, interconexão entre razão, cognição e tomada de decisões, buscando compreensão das emoções no contexto da IA e neurociência, aspectos técnicos, éticos e filosóficos

Background and Aim: Hydrodissection is a liquid injection technique that is rarely used in animal ophthalmic procedures. The use of this technique in the creation of conjunctival flaps for the treatment of corneal ulcers in dogs can improve the outcome, task, and comfort for patients. This study aimed to evaluate the use of hydrodissection in the creation of conjunctival flaps in dogs with corneal ulcers. Materials and Methods: This study focused on a surgical procedure for creating conjunctival flaps in the eyes of 17 dogs with deep corneal ulcers. We divided the patients into two groups: Hydrodissection was performed in the first group (G1) and conventional divulsion without hydrodissection in the second group (G2). In G1, the conjunctival flap was created by subconjunctival injection of 1 mL of 0.9% sodium chloride, followed by flap construction. The flap was constructed through conventional divulsion using iris scissors in the G2. The operative time, degree of bleeding, and ease of conjunctival divulsion were evaluated during the procedure. Blepharospasm, hyperemia, edema, and scarring of the conjunctiva were evaluated during the post-operative period. Post-operative complications, notably suture dehiscence, were recorded in each group. Results: Hydrodissection is an easy-to-perform maneuver that optimizes the construction of conjunctival flaps. There were no statistical differences in the parameters used to evaluate the trans- and post-operative period between the groups. The volume of sodium chloride administered in the conjunctiva ranged from 0.5 mL to 1 mL in G1. Dehiscence of the flap sutures was observed in four patients (two in G1 and two in G2), with no significant difference between the groups. Conclusion: Hydrodissection facilitates the construction of conjunctival flaps in dogs with corneal ulcers, affording greater comfort to patients and proving to be an excellent option for ophthalmologists.

Abstract The nature of dark matter is still unknown and an experimental program to look for dark matter particles in our Galaxy should extend its sensitivity to light particles in the GeV mass range and exploit the directional information of the DM particle motion (Vahsen et al. in CYGNUS: feasibility of a nuclear recoil observatory with directional sensitivity to dark matter and neutrinos, arXiv:2008.12587 , 2020). The Cygno project is studying a gaseous time projection chamber operated at atmospheric pressure with a Gas Electron Multiplier (Sauli in Nucl Instrum Meth A 386:531, https://doi.org/10.1016/S0168-9002(96)01172-2 , 1997) amplification and with an optical readout as a promising technology for light dark matter and directional searches. In this paper we describe the operation of a 50 l prototype named LIME (Long Imaging ModulE) in an overground location at Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati (LNF) of INFN. This prototype employs the technology under study for the 1 cubic meter Cygno demonstrator to be installed at the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso (LNGS) (Amaro et al. in Instruments 2022, 6(1), https://www.mdpi.com/2410-390X/6/1/6 , 2022). We report the characterization of LIME with photon sources in the energy range from few keV to several tens of keV to understand the performance of the energy reconstruction of the emitted electron. We achieved a low energy threshold of few keV and an energy resolution over the whole energy range of 10–20%, while operating the detector for several weeks continuously with very high operational efficiency. The energy spectrum of the reconstructed electrons is then reported and will be the basis to identify radio-contaminants of the LIME materials to be removed for future Cygno detectors.
