Bacillus thuringiensis (B. thuringiensis) is considered one of the most important entomopathogenic microorganisms. It produces potent toxins against insects. Therefore, the present study investigates the bioacaricidal properties of B. thuringiensis on the Hyalomma tick species. Firstly, we identify Hyalomma ticks based on morphological screening and molecular characterization. The cytochrome C oxidase subunit I (COX1) gene was selected for the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis, which resulted in the amplification of 656 bp. The amplified products were sequenced, and the isolated (COX1) gene of ticks was submitted to the gene bank of NCBI (Accession No. OR077934.1). The nucleotide sequences were retrieved from the NCBI data bank by BLASTn analysis, which confirmed that all obtained sequences belong to genus Hyalomma, and multiple alignments confirmed that the sequence of Hyalomma anatolicum Tandojam‐isolate (HA‐TJ) 100% aligned with Hyalomma analoticum KP792577.1, Hyalomma detritum KP792595.1, Hyalomma excavatum KX911989.1, and H. excavatum OQ449693.1. The generated phylogenetic tree confirmed that sequences of HA‐TJ COX1 clustered with a single clad of H. analoticum, H. excavatum, and H. detritum. The acaricidal effect of B. thuringiensis toxins B. thuringiensis spore crystal mix (BtSCM) and B. thuringiensis crystal proteins (Btcps) was evaluated against larvae and adult life stages of Hyalomma ticks in vitro. We applied Btcps and BtSCM separately with different concentrations and calculated the mortality percentage. Adult mortality was estimated at the 8th, 10th, 12th, and 15th days posttreatment and larval mortality after 24 h. During treatment of the adult life stage, at first, ticks were immersed in different concentrations of Btcps and BtSCM for 5 min after the treatments, and the samples were transferred to sterile containers and placed in an incubator with 80% humidity at 23°C. Furthermore, Btcps produced the highest mortality on Day 15, 89 ± 1.00% at a concentration of 3000 μg/mL, followed by the 12th, 10th, and 8th days produced 83 ± 1.91%, 70 ± 1.15%, and 61 ± 1.00%, respectively. BtSCM produced mortality of 69 ± 1.91% on Day 15 at a concentration of 3000 μg/mL, followed by the 12th, 10th, and 8th days at 57 ± 2.51%, 37 ± 1.91%, and 34 ± 2.00%. The present study revealed that B. thuringiensis toxins produced a significant (p < 0.05) increase in mortality rate in adults of Hyalomma ticks. Additionally, Btcps and BtSCM were used to treat the larval stage. The treatments were applied to calculate the mortality percentage via the Laravel packet test. At a 1500 μg/mL concentration, Btcps resulted in the highest mortality of 98 ± 1.15%; this was followed by 1250 μg/mL, 1000 μg/mL, and 750 μg/mL, which produced mortalities of 76 ± 1.63%, 60 ± 1.63%, and 56 ± 1.63%, respectively. In addition, BtSCM produced a mortality rate of 79 ± 2.51% at a concentration of 1500 μg/mL. Furthermore, 75 ± 2.51%, 65 ± 1.91%, and 58 ± 1.15% mortality were observed at concentrations of 1250 μg/mL, 1000 μg/mL, and 750 μg/mL, respectively. The results showed a significant (p < 0.05) increase in larval mortality compared to the control group. We conclude that B. thuringiensis toxins are applicable as a bioacaricide. The destructive effects of burning conventional fossil fuels on the environment have created the realisation of the significance of using alternative fuels as a mitigating measure to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. One of the most promising and environmentally friendly substitutes for petroleumbased gasoline fuel is bioethanol. This study uses agricultural residue (bagasse), halophytes and non-edible biomass as feedstocks to produce bioethanol, through lignin content extraction from Panicum antidotale, Phragmites karka, Sugarcane bagasse, Jatropha curcas husk and Conocarpus erectus leaves and then cellulose reduced by acid pretreatment followed by hydrolysis. The cellulose content was found higher in Panicum antidotale (43.39 percent) and lowest in Jatropha curcas husk (35.10 percent), while moderate values of (42.81 percent) in Sugarcane bagasse, Phragmites karka (37.48 percent), and Conocarpus erectus (38.53 percent). At the beginning and end of the fermentation process, the total carbohydrate contents of the hydrolysed biomass were analysed, and their bioethanol yields were measured. Maximum reducing sugar was found 19 gm/L (1.186 lb/ft3 ) in Panicum antidotale followed by Phragmites karka, sugarcane bagasse, Jatropha curcas husk, and Conocarpus erectus leaves as 15.89 gm/L (0.991 lb/ft³ ) and 12.09 gm/L (0.754 lb/ft3 ), 10.52 gm/L (0.656 lb/ft3 ), 4.51 gm/L (0.281 lb/ft3 ), respectively. Bioethanol percentage yield by volume was found as 4.36 percent (Panicum antidotale), 3.93 percent (Phragmites karka), 2.87 percent (Jatropha curcas husk), 2.52 percent (sugarcane bagasse) and 1.64 percent (Conocarpus erectus leaves), respectively. The results showed the potential of producing eco-friendly bioethanol as biofuels from halophytes that will help ease the strain on food crops by providing inexpensive and abundant feedstock. Purpose: Combustion of fuel with oxidizer inside a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine forms inevitable oxides of nitrogen (NOx) due to high temperature at different locations of the combustion chamber. This study aims to quantify NOx formed inside the combustion chamber using two fuels, a conventional diesel (n-heptane) and a biodiesel (methyl oleate). Design/methodology/approach: This research uses a computational fluid dynamics simulation of chemically reacting fluid flow to quantify and compare oxides of nitrogen (NOx) in a compression ignition (CI) engine. The study expends species transport model of ANSYS FLUENT. The simulation model has provided the temperature profile inside the combustion chamber, which is subsequently used to calculate NOx using the NOx model. The simulation uses a single component hydrocarbon and oxygenated hydrocarbon to represent fuels; for instance, it uses n-heptane (C7H16) for diesel and methyl-oleate (C19H36O2) for biodiesel. A stoichiometric air–fuel mixture is used for both fuels. The simulation runs a single cylinder CI engine of 650 cm3 swept volume with inlet and exhaust valves closed. Findings: The pattern for variation of velocity, an important flow parameter, which affects combustion and subsequently oxides of nitrogen (NOx) formation at different piston locations, is similar for the two fuels. The variations of in-cylinder temperature and NOx formation with crank angles have similar patterns for the fuels, diesel and biodiesel. However, the numerical values of in-cylinder temperature and mass fraction of NOx are different. The volume averaged static peak temperatures are 1,013 K in case of diesel and 1,121 K in case of biodiesel, while the mass averaged mass fractions of NOx are 15 ppm for diesel and 141 ppm for biodiesel. The temperature rise after combustion is more in case of biodiesel, which augments the oxides of nitrogen formation. A new parameter, relative mass fraction of NOx, yields 28% lower value for biodiesel than for diesel. Originality/value: This work uses a new concept of simulating simple chemical reacting system model to quantify oxides of NOx using single component fuels. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to provide a comprehensive view of barriers that restrict the adoption of new specializations and courses in the higher education institutions of Southern Punjab, Pakistan. Design/methodology/approach: Quantitative methods were used to get the responses from the respondents of different institution of target areas. Results were further analyzed with the help of statistical tools. In total, 203 respondents were approached to fill the carefully designed questionnaire. Findings: Results of the study clearly show four major factors, including internal barrier, external barrier, cultural barrier and leadership barrier, that are restricting the introduction and adoption of new specialization courses in higher education institutes of Southern Punjab. Suggestions at the end are made to address the restrictions. Research limitations/implications: The current study states only six higher education institution of Southern Punjab, which is a kind of limitation itself. This study is conducted by taking into account the needs and trends of the businesses and markets; student perspective is not taken about the situation in this study, which is an another limitation of the study. To get more accurate and validated results, the higher education institutions located in other areas of Pakistan could be studied, which was not done in this study because of time and resource limitations. Practical implications: This study may prove worthy to bring a positive and practical shift in the Pakistani higher education system. This study may also prove beneficial to show the actual picture of the situation to national leaders, academicians and policy makers so that things are taken seriously to actually align the Pakistani higher education system with the emerging market demands and trends. Suggestions made in this study may provide comprehensive guidelines to the academic strategists to uplift the higher education institutions of Pakistan up to the international standards and requirements, so the Pakistani higher education institutions can get a respectful place in the international academic rankings. Originality/value: The paper highlights the restrictions and helps the institutions to introduce new specialization courses.

Background: Congenital hydrocephaly, an abnormal accumulation of fluid within the ventricular spaces at birth, can cause disability or death if untreated. Limited information is available about survival of infants born with hydrocephaly in Texas. Therefore, the purpose of the study was to calculate survival estimates among infants born with hydrocephaly without spina bifida in Texas. Methods: A cohort of live‐born infants delivered during 1999–2017 with congenital hydrocephaly without spina bifida was identified from the Texas Birth Defects Registry. Deaths within 1 year of delivery were identified using vital and medical records. One‐year infant survival estimates were generated for multiple descriptive characteristics using the Kaplan–Meier method. Crude hazard ratios (HRs) for one‐year survival among infants with congenital hydrocephaly by maternal and infant characteristics and adjusted HRs for maternal race and ethnicity were estimated using Cox proportional hazard models. Results: Among 5709 infants born with congenital hydrocephaly without spina bifida, 4681 (82%) survived the first year. The following characteristics were associated with infant survival: maternal race and ethnicity, clinical classification (e.g., chromosomal or syndromic), preterm birth, birth weight, birth year, and maternal education. In the multivariable Cox proportional hazards model, differences in survival were observed by maternal race and ethnicity after adjustment for other maternal and infant characteristics. Infants of non‐Hispanic Black (HR: 1.28, 95% CI: 1.04–1.58) and Hispanic (HR: 1.31, 95% CI: 1.12–1.54) women had increased risk for mortality, compared with infants of non‐Hispanic White women. Conclusions: This study showed infant survival among a Texas cohort differed by maternal race and ethnicity, clinical classification, gestational age, birth weight, birth year, and maternal education in infants with congenital hydrocephaly without spina bifida. Findings confirm that mortality continues to be common among infants with hydrocephaly without spina bifida. Additional research is needed to identify other risk factors of mortality risk. Primary esophageal diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is an extremely rare clinicopathologic entity. We report one case from our clinical experience and undertake a review of the previously published cases. A systematic literature search of the medical databases PubMed and Google Scholar was conducted. A total of 15 cases fulfilled the inclusion criteria. The data on patients’ characteristics, epidemiology, clinical features, HIV status, gross appearance of the lesion, esophageal location, treatment, and outcome were collected and analyzed. Primary esophageal DLBCL was more common among males, primarily in the fifth and sixth decades of life. Dysphagia was the most common initial clinical presentation. Tissue biopsy with immunohistochemistry was an indispensable diagnostic modality. The mainstay of treatment was chemotherapy with cyclophosphamide, vincristine, doxorubicin, and prednisone regimen, in addition to anti-CD20 antibody rituximab, with or without radiotherapy. This review serves to outline our current understanding of the epidemiology of and risk factors for primary esophageal DLBCL, the pathophysiology of this disorder, and currently available approaches to diagnosis and management.

Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) appears capable of detecting diabetic retinopathy (DR) with a high degree of accuracy in adults; however, there are few studies in children and young adults. Methods: Children and young adults (3-26 years) with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) or type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) were screened at the Dhaka BIRDEM-2 hospital, Bangladesh. All gradable fundus images were uploaded to Cybersight AI for interpretation. Two main outcomes were considered at a patient level: 1) Any DR, defined as mild non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR or more severe; and 2) Referable DR, defined as moderate NPDR or more severe. Diagnostic test performance comparing Orbis International's Cybersight AI with the reference standard, a fully qualified optometrist certified in DR grading, was assessed using the Matthews correlation coefficient (MCC), area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC-ROC), area under the precision-recall curve (AUC-PR), sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values. Results: Among 1274 participants (53.1% female, mean age 16.7 years), 19.4% (n = 247) had any DR according to AI. For referable DR, 2.35% (n = 30) were detected by AI. The sensitivity and specificity of AI for any DR were 75.5% (CI 69.7-81.3%) and 91.8% (CI 90.2-93.5%) respectively, and for referable DR, these values were 84.2% (CI 67.8-100%) and 98.9% (CI 98.3%-99.5%). The MCC, AUC-ROC and the AUC-PR for referable DR were 63.4, 91.2 and 76.2% respectively. AI was most successful in accurately classifying younger children with shorter duration of diabetes. Conclusions: Cybersight AI accurately detected any DR and referable DR among children and young adults, despite its algorithms having been trained on adults. The observed high specificity is particularly important to avoid over-referral in low-resource settings. The non-traditional threats posed by climate change to India and Pakistan are projected to be far greater than traditional threats in the near future. India is ranked as the fifth most vulnerable country to climate change, while Pakistan is ranked as the seventh most vulnerable. With sea levels expected to rise by 15-38 centimeters in India by 2050, major cities such as Kochi, Kolkata, and Mumbai are at risk. By 2030, over 40% of Indians may not have access to safe drinking water. The severe consequences of climate change will have long-lasting effects not only on India and Pakistan but also on the entire South Asian region. Between 1990 and 2008, over 750 million people, nearly 50% of South Asia's population, were affected by disasters, leading to nearly 230,000 deaths. India and Pakistan bear a greater responsibility to engage in climate diplomacy to protect this critical region from the anticipated dangers of climate change. Therefore, this paper will explore the effects of climate change on India and Pakistan and examine how climate diplomacy can be an opportunity for both nations to abandon their traditional hostility and initiate a new era of cooperation to address the impending threats of climate change. Dalbergia sissoo L. and Catharanthus roseus L. are important medicinal plants used since olden times for the treatment of various diseases like skin diseases, eye ailments and inflammatory conditions. The main aim of the study was to assess the pharmacological effects of D. sissoo leaves extract (DSLE) and C. roseus leaves extract (CRLE) for the treatment of inflammation associated corneal neovascularization (CNV). Both plant materials were powdered and extracted with the methanol. Phytochemical evaluation of methanol extract of D. sissoo leaves and C. roseus leaves was performed using different chemical tests and thin layer chromatography (TLC). Pharmacological effects of DSLE and CRLE were carried out using chemically induced CNV in animal model. Histological analysis of corneal tissues was also performed. Phytochemical evaluation of the extracts has demonstrated the presence of major phytochemicals like flavonoids, tannins, saponins, terpenes, and steroids in the DSLE and alkaloids, tannins, flavonoids, glycosides, steroids, and phenols in the CRLE. TLC of both extracts also indicated the presence of different phytochemicals. Photographic analysis of DSLE and CRLE demonstrated that they had inhibited the CNV positively as compared to the vehicle control and positive control groups. Histological analysis of both extracts confirmed the results of photographic analysis that indicated the recovery and rearrangement of corneal fibers and absence of inflammatory cells and blood vessels. Findings from the current study suggest that the DSLE and CRLE can be used for the treatment of CNV. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The main input of this research is the introduction of the concept of double weak Hopf quiver (DWHQ). In addition, the structures of weak Hopf algebra (WHA) are obtained through path coalgebra of the proposed quivers. Furthermore, the module and comodule structures on the said WHA are discussed. Moreover, the classification of the semilattice-graded WHA structures of the path coalgebra obtained from the so called DWHQ was presented. This contributes a step further in the development of the module and comodule structures of more general algebras. These structures are important in the physics for dynamic systems. Agro-industrial by-products of fruits have turned into an essential source of bioactive products. This study examined the effect of freeze-drying on apple pomace powder (APP) and pomegranate peel powder (PPP) and their utilization in functional yogurt development at different concentrations. Freeze-dried powders in functional yogurt were investigated by chemical profile and bioactive characterization of total phenolic content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC), and antioxidant activity. The highest concentration of TPC (4.64) mg GAE/g, TFC (1.73 ± 0.00) CE mg/g, and antioxidant activity (83.87 ± 0.02) % was investigated in the yogurt sample T6, having the maximum amount of PPP in it, which was significantly higher compared to the treatments having APP. Yogurt samples were analyzed for their sensory attributes, which showed a decline with the increase in both APP and PPP concentrations in contrast by introducing the optimum levels of APP and PPP (3% or 6%); hence, no significant loss in sensory profile was found as compared to the control samples. The results were found to be significant at the level (p < 0.05). In terms of the freeze-dried APP and PPP results, the APP samples had the most complete chemical composition, with the exception of fiber and ash concentration. Treatments of functional yogurt were prepared for their physicochemical profile, which demonstrated a straight proportionate relationship between the proportions of both powders in the meantime. Protein and fat levels were likely to decrease as both dry powder levels increased. Hence, apple pomace and pomegranate peel can be used after freeze-drying as a rich source of bioactive compounds in functional yogurt in the food industry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Several authors investigated a dosimetric impact of leaf width on radiotherapy plan quality subjectively, and concluded that thinner leaf-width multileaf collimators (MLC) are beneficial because of their better coverage of clinically relevant structures. Study aimed to investigate the dosimetric effect of MLC leaf width on volumetric modulated arc therapy plan quality by objective approach. Materials and methods: Twelve of each prostate and head-and-neck patients were planned for volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) treatments for MLC leaf widths of 4 mm and 10 mm. Three different VMAT schemes single-arc, dual-arc and two combined independent single-arcs were optimized. Dose volume histogram and Isodose distribution were used for quantitative and qualitative comparison of the treatment plan, respectively. Dose-volume-indices of the planning target volume, organs at risk and number of delivered monitor units were compared. The 4 mm leaf width being reference over 10 mm and results were noted as statistically significant if p = 0.05 using student t-test. Results: All VMAT schemes for both tumor sites showed a gain in target coverage, similar organs at risk doses and higher monitor units to be delivered, when changing leaf width from 10 mm to 4 mm. The p-values were significant for majority of head-and-neck dose indices. Conclusion: The thinner-leaf MLCs, owing to their better spatial resolution, result in an overall gain for target coverage, while maintaining permissible doses to the organs at risk.
