Kahramanmaraş earthquakes occurred on 6 February 2023, and many people died and were trapped under the rubble. The objective of this research was to investigate child victims of the quake, who were most dramatically affected, required intensive care and were trapped under debris/rubble/wreckage in terms of psychiatric status and the disaster-related or personal determinants of psychopathologies. Pediatric patients (n=77) who were hospitalized in intensive care units and inpatient wards within the first month after the earthquake and were consulted to the Child Psychiatry, were examined in terms of psychiatric symptoms, use of psychotropics, duration under debris, loss of relatives, loss of limbs, and intensive care requirement. Anhedonia, loss of appetite, psychosomatic and dissociative symptoms, as well as psychotropic need/use were significantly higher in patients who required intensive care. Dissociative and psychosomatic symptoms were linked with longer durations under debris. The current findings highlight prominent and predominated psychiatric symptoms in child victims of quakes, hospitalized in intensive care units and being prolonged trapped under debris. Prolonged entrapment correlated with increased dissociative and psychosomatic symptoms, emphasizing the need for targeted psychiatric support for vulnerable earthquake survivors. OBJECTIVES: The determinants of subjective well-being have been largely investigated in recent years. According to Pavot and Diener who have developed TSWL (Temporal Satisfaction with Life Scale), to assess the life satisfaction level of an individual according to temporal factors, subjective well-being is composed of two constructs: an emotional or affective component (i.e. positive and negative affects) and a conceptual or cognitive component (i.e. satisfaction with life, marriage, work, and leisure). The aim of this study was to adapt the Temporal Satisfaction with Life Scale into Turkish (TSWLS-T) and examine the reliability and validity of this new Turkish version. METHODS: The study was conducted in four phases with randomly chosen 236 participants (113 females, 123 males) and the mean age of sample was 38.6 ± 12.5 years. Cultural adaptation was implemented according to the internationally suggested method and a pre-test was administered to examine the language equivalence. Since the scale had high levels of language equivalence, validity and reliability studies were conducted. For construct validity, confirmatory factor analysis was employed. The Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) was used in order to evaluate the validity of TSWLS-T, since internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha and intra-class coefficients) and test–retest analysis were employed to estimate instrument reliability. RESULTS: The TSWLS-T demonstrated acceptable internal consistency, with a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.87 for the total scale and ranging between 0.76 and 0.88 for the subscales. Aims:This study aimed to evaluate the mental health of mothers of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) after distance learning measures during the Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, considering factors that may influence their well-being.Methods:In a cross-sectional design, the levels of burnout, depression, anxiety, stress, coping strategies, social support, and perceived changes in mental health among the mothers were assessed using the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21), Brief Coping Orientation to Problems Experienced Inventory, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support Scale, and Global Rating of Change (GRC) scale. Furthermore, the mothers completed the Atilla Turgay Scale (T-DSM-IV-S) to evaluate their perceptions of their children’s ADHD and behavioral problems.Results:Of the 72 mothers (mean age: 42.46±6.73 years, mean children age: 11.39±3.12 years), 50%, 44.4%, and 43.1% had depression symptoms, anxiety, and stress, respectively. According to the GRC, most mothers (67%) reported deterioration in mental well-being compared with the pre-pandemic period.
