Summary: In a wind energy conversion system (WECS) based on a doubly fed induction generator (DFIG), a fast and smooth automatic synchronization of the DFIG with the utility grid is always desirable. Additionally, elimination of the need for a speed encoder makes the synchronization process much more reliable. This paper proposes a modified voltage controller‐based automatic grid‐synchronization strategy for the DFIG‐WECS using a rotor‐current‐dependent model‐reference‐adaptive‐system (MRAS) for rotor‐speed/position estimation. A V/f control‐based starting strategy is used to start the DFIG. An improved decoupled DFIG stator voltage controller is proposed to enhance the transient response during the DFIG grid synchronization. The modified controller is implemented in a grid‐voltage‐oriented reference frame to synchronize the DFIG‐stator with the grid. A robust modified MRAS with higher noise immunity and reduced machine parameter dependency is used to estimate the rotor‐speed/position during synchronization control. To validate the performance of the proposed strategy, a DFIG‐based WECS is modeled and simulated using an OPAL‐RT real‐time simulator, where a motor‐generator setup is modeled to have an equivalent WECS configuration. As compared with the latest reported work, this approach reduces the synchronization time by 16.99% while ensuring a smooth synchronization with no stator inrush‐current, even without any speed/position encoder. Most of the available directional relaying schemes use the phase angle information of sequence components of voltage and current with a cycle or more as the decision time. Converter interfaced solar photovoltaic plants are subjected to follow grid codes, leading to significant voltage and current modulation compared to conventional synchronous machines based sources. This may result in malfunction of existing directional relaying. This paper presents a high-speed time-domain directional relaying method using only phase fault current for distribution systems in the presence of solar plant. The method proposes a fault direction discrimination function, and its sign provides the direction of fault. The proposed method is tested for various control options embedded in solar plant, fault parameters, and noisy signals in CIGRE 14-bus distribution system integrating solar plant. Results validate the ability of the proposed method to decide within one-fourth of a cycle following fault detection for both PV plant side as well as grid end. Satisfying fault ride-through requirements, solar photovoltaic (PV) plant remains connected to the grid even during a fault. With current limiting feature, the plant current during a fault becomes comparable to its rated current. This imposes challenges to conventional local data-based protection methods employed in the relay on PV-side. In such a situation, the selectivity of a protection scheme is crucial for maintaining an uninterrupted supply to customers. In this article, a q-axis component-based protection scheme is proposed for the distribution system with a PV plant. The method extracts the second-order harmonic components of q-axis voltage and current at relaying point for fault detection and direction identification. Using this direction information at both ends of a line segment to be protected, internal and external faults are discriminated. The performance of the proposed method is tested on 14-bus distribution system for various fault cases. A comparative analysis with existing techniques shows the strength of the proposed method. This manuscript presents a novel control architecture for the E-STATCOM (STATCOM integrated with Energy Storage System (ESS)) that is common for both the Stand-Alone (SA) as well as the Grid-Connected (GC) modes of operation of a microgrid operating under unbalanced conditions. The proposed control architecture fulfils the aim of regulating the E-STATCOM in such a manner so as to smoothen the power fluctuations of a nearby renewable energy source (solar, wind, etc) and also to maintain the voltage and frequency at the Point of Common Coupling (PCC) within the normal range of operation. Hence, the resultant real power injected by the renewable energy source along with the E-STATCOM is constant in magnitude, irrespective of whether the microgrid is in the GC or the SA mode of operation. Dynamically varying limits are introduced to provide inherent VSC over-current protection. In order to illustrate the performance of these control architectures, a model of the IEEE 34 node power distribution network that is being supplied by a solar Photo-Voltaic (PV) Distributed Generation (DG) unit, a wind DG unit and two identical E-STATCOMs (for compensating the power fluctuations from the PV and wind DG units) has been considered for study in PSCAD/EMTDC. Due to the rapid development of power electronics technology and modernization of DC based loads, DC microgrids (DCMG) are becoming most attractive solution in terms of their increased efficiency and high power quality. However they face certain challenges like intermittency of renewable energy sources, limitations in dynamic behaviour of storage systems and various stability issues during islanding. Thus it is mandatory to select the DCMG components properly with a robust control strategy for power converters in order to maintain power balance despite of variation in source and load power in order maintain the system power quality. In this work, a DC bus signalling based decentralized control strategy is proposed for a PV based DCMG, which eliminates the risk associated with DC bus voltage fluctuation. Fuel cell is as an auxiliary power source along with solar PV and storage devices, reduces the possibility of black out and helps to increase system reliability. The proposed control strategy has been validated through MATLAB/Simulink based simulation studies for variable weather condition and load demand on DCMG system.

For fault ride-through requirement, solar photovoltaic (PV) plant remains connected to the grid during a fault. In such a situation, a PV plant operates in different modes and supplies current to comply with the requirements of the grid. The relative magnitude of phase current contributed by a PV plant during a fault is at par with the nominal current. Such a fault behavior restricts the application of available phase current based relaying approaches while protecting the distribution system with a PV plant. A protection method using local positive sequence voltage and current is proposed to protect a distribution system with PV plant. The method selects pickup current using proposed current-voltage curve for fault detection. A three-dimensional time-current-voltage characteristic is proposed for trip time calculation. Performance of the proposed method is tested for relays on both PV plant side and grid end using DigSilent PowerFactory simulation data for a CIGRE 14-bus distribution system with PV plant having different modes of operations. GTR1 and GTR2 transporters are components of the source to sink translocation network of glucosinolates, which are major defence metabolites in the Brassicaceae. These transporters can be genetically manipulated for reduction of seed‐glucosinolates without inhibiting glucosinolate biosynthesis, thereby maintaining the inherent defence potential of plants. However, the different roles of GTRs in influencing tissue‐specific distribution of glucosinolates in agriculturally important Brassica crops are yet unknown. Here, we report functional characterization of two groups of glucosinolate transporters (GTR1 and GTR2) from Brassica juncea based on gene expression data, biochemical analysis, gene‐complementation studies in GTR‐deficient mutants and RNAi‐based knockdown followed by insect feeding experiments. Although both GTRs showed ubiquitous expression patterns and broad substrate specificity, the single‐gene knockdown lines displayed different phenotypes. The GTR2‐knockdown plants showed a significant reduction of glucosinolates in seeds and a higher accumulation in leaves and pods, while the GTR1‐knockdown plants displayed a smaller reduction of glucosinolates in seeds and significantly lower glucosinolate levels in leaves. Consequently, knockdown of GTR2 resulted in higher resistance towards the generalist pest, Spodoptera litura. Overall, our study highlights the distinctive roles of B. juncea GTRs in tissue‐specific accumulation of glucosinolates and the potential for manipulating GTR2 for enhanced nutrition and plant defence. Distribution lines are generally protected by overcurrent relays. With the integration of an inverter-interfaced solar photovoltaic (PV) plant having a current-limiting feature, the fault current seen by the relay on the PV side of that feeder becomes comparable to the load current. The conventional overcurrent relaying principle is not suitable for distribution line protection. Distance relay may be a viable option for protection of distribution lines connecting the solar PV plant. However, positive- and negative-sequence source impedances of the PV plant depend on an inverter controller, which results in limited performance of fixed setting distance relay. This article proposes an adaptive distance relay setting to protect distribution line connecting the PV plant, using prefault voltage and current data at the relaying point. The method calculates positive- and negative-sequence PV source impedances for boundary setting of distance relay at the PV side. The proposed trip boundary is modified adaptively with the change in prefault conditions of the PV plant. Performance of the proposed method is tested for different control strategies and operating capacities of the PV plant and variation in the grid source impedance on a 34-bus distribution system. Real-time application of the proposed method is validated in hardware-in-the-loop using OPAL-RT simulators with IEC 61850 as the communication protocol and found to be accurate. This article proposes modeling and two controller design techniques for a triple active bridge (TAB) three-port dc–dc converter comprising of fuel cell, battery, and load. The sources are integrated, employing boost interleaved full-bridge converters in order to get smoother source current profile. The converter is a nonlinear multi-input multi-output (MIMO) system with a large number of control variables. Moreover, a high degree of coupling among the control variables makes its modeling and control system design quite cumbersome and complex. To overcome the complexity of analysis in a higher order system like TAB, a generalized frequency-domain modeling technique is introduced in this article. A new decoupling matrix-based proportional-integral controller design method is also proposed. It reduces the design complexity and improves the system dynamic performance (lower settling time, overshoot/undershoot in the controlled variables) in comparison to similar three-port converters reported in the literature. Further, the performance of the proposed controller is compared by simulation with another popular MIMO system controller design technique, namely the state feedback control. A 1-kW laboratory prototype is built and tested to verify the system performance during dynamic load changes, source current variation, and battery charging/discharging operation. As grid codes evolve, inverter-interfaced renewable generation may be required to take greater responsibility for grid support. It may be obliged to source a large current during a short-circuit fault in the grid and provide large dynamic reactive power, beyond the inverter rating, for voltage recovery after the fault clearance. In this sense, the inverter-interfaced generating system would behave more similarly to a conventional synchronous machine. This is not yet mandatory but current technology cannot readily support it if required in the future, because the power semiconductors would overheat unless they are drastically derated. This study proposes a method to increase the power semiconductor's transient thermal capacity, and hence its short-term over-current capability, by integrating a phase-change material inside the power semiconductor module. Experiment and thermodynamic simulation across different materials are used to illustrate the feasibility of the concept and the factors that should be considered in such a design. The study shows that 1.5 p.u. (per unit) overcurrent could be achieved for 30 s, which is typical of synchronous generators; and 3.0 p.u. fault current could be achieved for 3 s. A custom-made 1200-V, 50-A IGBT half-bridge module integrating a liquid metal as the phase change material is compared with a conventional commercially available module. This manuscript develops a unified control structure for Distributed Generation (DG) units based on Voltage Source Converters considering unbalanced and non-linear operating conditions. This control structure works for both the Islanded and the Grid-connected modes of operation of the Micro-Grid (MG). The objective of this control scheme is to regulate the line currents of the DG unit in such a manner that the voltage at the Point of Common Coupling (PCC) remains balanced despite the line currents of the DG unit being unbalanced and distorted. Multiple adaptive P-R controllers have been proposed for the current control loop of the Voltage Source Converter (VSC). These controllers have been implemented with resettable integrators so as to limit the DC components in the post fault current of the VSC. The Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is interfaced to the DC link of the VSC through bi-directional dc-dc converters. An improved control structure for the bi-directional dc-dc converter has been developed. Distribution system possesses high resistance to reactance ratio and unbalanced load profile. Introduction of power electronic devices such as solar photovoltaic (PV) inverter in the distribution system leads to power imbalance and unregulated voltage profile at the point of common coupling (PCC) because these devices having low‐voltage ride through feature remain connected to grid during fault and inject balanced current to unbalanced fault. Also, high PV integration may increase the voltage at PCC beyond its desired limit. To overcome such unbalanced conditions and to maintain voltage at PCC, a positive, negative and zero sequence‐based current controller with reactive power compensation is proposed in this work. The sequence controller controls the sequence currents to their reference command. DC‐link voltage regulator, reactive power compensator and PCC voltage regulator decide the references for sequence currents. The proposed reactive power compensator uses both positive sequence voltage at PCC and reactive power supplied by the filter capacitor to generate the reactive power reference value. Feedforward and feedback actions are involved in the controller to produce switching pulses for inverter. This study presents a year‐long comprehensive performance analysis of four distinct solar photovoltaic (SPV) system configurations with central inverter, micro inverter, fixed axis structure and dual axis sun tracker (DAST) structure installed at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, West Bengal, India. Technical and economic performance indices are used to analyse the impact of inverter technology and DAST structure using field data of one year. Specifically, technical parameters specified by IEC 61724 are used to compare simulated results with field data from June 2017 to May 2018. The difference between the simulated and measured values of all the configurations is mostly attributed to the variation in solar irradiance and module temperature data. For simulation study, daily and monthly average values are considered while daily instantaneous data are used for measured values. Comparison of measured values through energy yield, capacity factor and performance ratio (PR) indices has confirmed the superiority of dual axis micro inverter system configuration. Additionally, the impact of seasonal variation on PR values for all four system configurations is also analysed. Economic performance for 25 years of project life using payback period, net present value and levelised cost of energy indices concludes dual axis central inverter system configuration as the most economical. There has been the desire for power electronic converters, which integrate renewable generation to the grid, to provide short-circuit (SC) current for a few seconds to drive relay protection and/or support voltage recovery following fault clearance. This has not been possible for the demanded current is significantly greater than the rating. Without proper thermal management, the junction temperature will rise quickly, resulting in thermal breakdown. In this article, a power module with extended safe operating area (SOA) is proposed and optimized to provide SC current. The proposed power module takes advantage of the heat absorption ability of phase change material (PCM) to constrain the junction temperature from rising quickly. To avoid unacceptably reducing thermal conduction, the PCM is combined with a metal framework. Thermal models are proposed to analyse the transient response and optimise the design. The phase change effect of the PCM is verified through simulation and experiment. It is demonstrated that when the junction temperature of the device is controlled below the limit, the SOA can be extended. Optimization of power module design is carried out in a particular case study in which simulation results are used to show the practicability and possibility of using the proposed concept. The winter annuals Brassica tournefortii and Raphanus raphanistrum (Brassicaceae) share similar habitats and life-history traits, but differ in their reproduction system (self-compatibility vs. self-incompatibility, respectively). The two phylogenetically close species offer means to assess the effect of reproductive biology on genetic diversity between and within populations. In general, genetic diversity between populations of B. tournefortii was higher than that found between populations of R. raphanistrum , while higher genetic diversity indices were evident within populations of R. raphanistrum. In addition, the results of pairwise genetic distances indicated that the genetic distances between populations can be associated to the species' reproductive biology and not to the population's distribution pattern. We discuss whether knowledge of reproductive and habitat characteristics can be used to predict genetic diversity when planning sampling scheme for ex situ conservation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Network operators and utilities are challenged with increasing extreme weather conditions, resulting in interrupted power supply to critical loads. Resiliency metrics, which can capture the level of preparedness to resist adverse impact of extreme conditions on a distribution system, can be leveraged in multiple ways to provide better operation of the network and design of the future systems. In this paper, a methodology to quantify resiliency and maintain power supply to critical loads (CLs) during extreme contingencies has been proposed. Resiliency evaluation of power distribution system has been defined as a multi-criteria decision making problem and quantified using graph theoretic approach and Choquet integral. The algorithm proposed in this paper to calculate the resiliency for all feasible network configurations supplying CLs in a network is useful in planning as well as operation of the distribution network. The application of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated through several case studies using two proximal CERTS microgrids and IEEE 123 node distribution system. This paper presents the positive-sequence, negative-sequence, and zero-sequence voltage and current control schemes in the dq frame for the voltage-source converter (VSC)-based distributed generation (DG) units in order to compensate for voltage unbalance in a microgrid. The objective of these schemes is to control the positive-, negative-, and zero-sequence components (separately and independently) of the voltage at the point of common coupling and the VSC currents to their respective reference commands. Dynamically varying limits have been proposed for the positive- and negative-sequence references for the current control schemes in order to protect the VSC from overloading (under unbalanced conditions) and unsymmetrical faults. The active power control, frequency control, and the reactive power–voltage droop control schemes decide the references of the positive-sequence voltage control scheme in order to fulfill the objective of using the same control schemes for the grid-connected and the islanded modes of operation of the microgrid, thereby eliminating the need for islanding detection. Communication-assisted distance protection schemes are widely used for three-terminal line protection and are susceptible to power swings. The available differential protection scheme is also considered to be suited to protect three-terminal lines and is free from problems associated with the power swing. However, the performance of the current differential protection scheme may be affected if an outfeed condition occurs during an internal fault. This paper presents a new technique for protecting three-terminal transmission lines immune to power swing. The technique uses synchronized voltage and current measurements from three terminals for calculating voltage at the tee-point. The maximum magnitude of the superimposed component of positive-sequence voltage estimated at the tee-point is compared with the maximum magnitude of superimposed componentas of the positive-sequence voltage measured at three terminals of the line to discriminate a fault from power swing. The method is accurate even for an outfeed condition during the internal fault, current-transformer saturation during severe internal or external faults, large load rejection, and different prefault loading conditions occur during the power swing. Maloperation of the zone 3 element of distance relays during stressed system conditions, such as power swing, load encroachment, or voltage stressed condition is one of the main reasons for large disturbances in power systems. The improved protection technique for zone 3 can help to prevent such maloperation and, thus, more reliable power systems can be envisaged. This paper proposes an algorithm that utilizes two new criteria: 1) the maximum value of the transient monitoring function obtained from three-phase currents and 2) the phase angle of the positive-sequence impedance to support zone 3 of the distance relay. The technique is tested for various power system events, such as the three-phase fault during the power swing, load encroachment, voltage stressed conditions, and current-transformer saturation during the three-phase fault using data simulated through EMTDC/PSCAD in the IEEE 39-bus New England system. Thirty seven genotypes of Morus alba L. from the trans-Himalaya with white, pink and black fruit were studied to find out variability and relationship of fruit color and sampling location with total antioxidant capacity, total polyphenol content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC) and total anthocyanin content (TAC) in fruit. The ferric reducing antioxidant potential (FRAP) ranged from 34.2 to 46.2 μmol Fe(II)/g DW. TPC ranged from 1.8 to 8.3 mg gallic acid equivalent (GAE)/g DW. The TFC ranged from 0.4 to 0.9 mg quercetin equivalent/g DW. Two way analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed that fruit color has no significant relationship with TPC and TAC. However, fruit color showed inconsistent effect on antioxidant capacity as determined by different methods. Sampling location has significant effect on antioxidant capacity, TPC, TFC and TAC. Interaction between fruit color and sampling location showed significant effect on antioxidant capacity and TAC. The study therefore showed that source of genotypes from different sampling location is more important as compare to fruit color in determining antioxidant capacity, TPC, TFC and TAC in M. alba fruit from the trans-Himalaya. This paper presents a synchronized phasor measurement-based wide-area backup protection scheme which compares the magnitude of sequence voltages of buses at a system protection center to identify the bus closest to the fault. Then, the sign of cosine of the angle between voltage and current at both ends of all lines connected to this bus are compared to identify the faulted branch. The technique is tested for various faults resulting in voltage/current inversion in a series-compensated line and during load encroachment and power swing conditions using data simulated through EMTDC/PSCAD for a nine-bus, three-machine power system. The scheme is found to be accurate and fast. With today's synchronized phasor measurement technology and communication system, the proposed scheme can overcome the limitations of the conventional backup protection scheme. Immature seeds were cultured on 10 different media for germination. Maximum germination was achieved on Lindeman orchid medium (37.12%) within 17 days of culturing. Protocorms with leaf primordia were cultured on BM-2 and 7 different modifications of Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium with various hormone combinations [0-3 mg/L indole butyric acid (IBA) and 0-3 mg/L kinetin (Kin)] for plantlet regeneration and mass multiplication. Maximum number of shoots (18.12 ± 0.3), highest shoot length (17.80 cm ± 2.16), maximum root number (8.25 ± 0.69), and highest root length (8.02 cm ± 1.45) were found on MS medium with 3 mg/L IBA and 1 mg/L Kin. Plantlets with 2-3 shoots were transferred to different potting mixtures for acclimatization to field conditions and further multiplication. One hundred percent survival was obtained in C-8 potting mixture consisting of cocopeat + vermiculite + perlite (1:1:1), which produced 75 shoots (25 plantlets) after 1 month of transplantation in the greenhouse. The current study describes for the first time a rapid in vitro protocorm development and mass multiplication protocol for Dactylorhiza hatagirea (D.Don) Soo that holds robust potential for large-scale propagation and metabolite production. A distance relaying scheme is susceptible to power swing. To avoid unintended trip operation during such conditions, a power swing blocking function is utilized in distance relays. However, if a fault occurs during power swing, the relay should detect the fault and trip as soon as possible. The detection of fault in a series-compensated line during the power swing is further complicated due to complex transients produced by series capacitor and the metal–oxide varistor (MOV) protecting it. This paper proposes a negative-sequence current-based technique for detecting all types of faults during the power swing in a series-compensated line. The technique is tested for different series-compensated systems including a 9-bus 3-machine power system. Different types of faults: symmetrical, asymmetrical, and high resistance occurring during the power swing are simulated through EMTDC/PSCAD to test the algorithm. Background: Himalayan plants are widely used in traditional system of medicine both as prophylactics and therapeutics for high altitude maladies. Our aim was to evaluate the antioxidant capacities and bioactive compounds of methanol and n-hexane extracts of the phytococktail comprising of sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides), apricot (Prunus armeniaca) and roseroot (Rhodiola imbricata) from trans-Himalaya. Methods: The 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), 2,2'-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) diammonium salt (ABTS) and nitric oxide (NO) radical scavenging capacities and lipid peroxidation inhibition (LPI) property of the extracts were determined. Total antioxidant power was determined by ferric reducing/antioxidant power (FRAP) assay. Total polyphenol, flavonoid, flavonol, proanthocyanidin and carotenoid were also estimated for both extracts. We have identified and quantified the phyto-chemotypes present in the methanol and n-hexane extracts by hyphenated gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) technique. Results: Antioxidant capacity assays using DPPH, ABTS, NO, LPI and FRAP exhibited analogous results where the phytococktail showed high antioxidant action. The phytococktail was also found to possess high quantity of total polyphenol, flavonoid, flavonol and carotenoid. A significant and linear correlation was found between the antioxidant capacities and bioactive principles. A total of 32 phyto-chemotypes were identified from these extracts by GC/MS chemometric fingerprinting. Major phyto-chemotypes identified by GC/MS were glycosides, phenylpropanoids and derivatives, terpenoids, alkaloids, phytosterols, fatty acids and esters, alkaloids and derivatives, organic acid esters and aromatic ethers with positive biological and pharmacological actions. Conclusion: The phytococktail extracts were found to contain considerable amount of diverse bioactive compounds with high antioxidant capacities. The presence of hydrophilic and lipophilic antioxidants in the phytococktail could have contributed to the higher antioxidant values. Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to introduce a neural network-based market agent, which develops optimal bidding strategies for a power generating company (Genco) in a day-ahead electricity market. Design/methodology/approach – The problem of finding optimal bidding strategy for a Genco is formulated as a two-level optimization problem. At the top level, the Genco aims at maximizing its total daily profit, and at the bottom level, the independent system operator obtains the power dispatch quantity for each market participant with the objective of maximizing the social welfare. The neural network is trained using a particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm with the objective of maximizing daily profit for the Genco. Findings – The effectiveness of the proposed approach is established through several case studies on the benchmark IEEE 30-bus test system for the day-ahead market, with an hourly clearing mechanism and dynamically changing demand profile. Both block bidding and linear supply function bidding are considered for the Gencos and the variation of optimal bidding strategy with the change in demand is investigated. The performance is also evaluated in the context of the Brazilian electricity market with real market data and compared with the other methods reported in the literature. Practical implications – Strategic bidding is a peculiar phenomenon observed in an oligopolistic electricity market and has several implications on policy making and mechanism design. In this work, the transmission line constraints and demand side bidding are taken into account for a more realistic simulation. Originality/value – To the best of the authors' knowledge, this paper has introduced, for the first time, a neural network-based market agent to develop optimal bidding strategies of a Genco in an electricity market. Simulation results obtained from the IEEE 30-bus test system and the Brazilian electricity market demonstrate the superiority of the proposed approach, as compared to the conventional PSO-based method and the genetic fuzzy rule-based system approach, respectively. Heterosis refers to the superior performance of F1 hybrids over their respective parental inbred lines. Although the genetic and expression basis of heterosis have been previously investigated, the metabolic basis for this phenomenon is poorly understood. In a preliminary morphological study in Brassica juncea, we observed significant heterosis at the 50% flowering stage, wherein both the growth and reproduction of F1 reciprocal hybrids were greater than that of their parents. To identify the possible metabolic causes or consequences of this heterosis, we carried out targeted LC-MS analysis of 48 primary (amino acids and sugars) and secondary metabolites (phytohormones, glucosinolates, flavonoids, and phenolic esters) in five developmental tissues at 50% flowering in hybrids and inbred parents. Principal component analysis (PCA) of metabolites clearly separated inbred lines from their hybrids, particularly in the bud tissues. In general, secondary metabolites displayed more negative heterosis values in comparison to primary metabolites. The tested primary and secondary metabolites displayed both additive and non-additive modes of inheritance in F1 hybrids, wherein the number of metabolites showing an additive mode of inheritance were higher in buds and siliques (52.77-97.14%) compared to leaf tissues (47.37-80%). Partial least regression (PLS) analysis further showed that primary metabolites, in general, displayed higher association with morphological parameters in F1 hybrids. Overall, our results are consistent with a resource-cost model for heterosis in B. juncea, where metabolite allocation in hybrids appears to favor growth, at the expense of secondary metabolism.
