This article provides a detailed evaluation of cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) approaches and metaheuristic algorithms for optimizing wind turbine location inside wind farms. The growing need for renewable energy sources has fueled an increase in research towards efficient and sustainable wind farm designs. To address this challenge, various AI techniques, including genetic algorithms (GA), particle swarm optimization (PSO), simulated annealing, artificial neural networks (ANNs), convolutional neural networks (CNNs), and reinforcement learning, have been explored in combination with metaheuristic algorithms. The goal is to discover optimal sites for turbine placement based on a variety of parameters such as energy output, cost-effectiveness, environmental impact, and geographical restrictions. The paper examines the advantages and disadvantages of each strategy and highlights current breakthroughs in the area. This assessment adds to continuing efforts to optimize wind farm design and promote the use of clean and sustainable energy sources by offering significant insights into current advances. With the growing need for renewable energy, wind farms are playing an important role in generating clean power from wind resources. The best wind turbine architecture in a wind farm has a major influence on the energy extraction efficiency. This paper describes a unique strategy for optimizing wind turbine locations on a wind farm that combines the capabilities of particle swarm optimization (PSO) and artificial neural networks (ANNs). The PSO method was used to explore the solution space and develop preliminary turbine layouts, and the ANN model was used to finetune the placements based on the predicted energy generation. The proposed hybrid technique seeks to increase energy output while considering site-specific wind patterns and topographical limits. The efficacy and superiority of the hybrid PSO-ANN methodology are proved through comprehensive simulations and comparisons with existing approaches, giving exciting prospects for developing more efficient and sustainable wind farms. The integration of ANNs and PSO in our methodology is of paramount importance because it leverages the complementary strengths of both techniques. Furthermore, this novel methodology harnesses historical data through ANNs to identify optimal turbine positions that align with the wind speed and direction and enhance energy extraction efficiency. A notable increase in power generation is observed across various scenarios. The percentage increase in the power generation ranged from approximately 7.7% to 11.1%. Owing to its versatility and adaptability to site-specific conditions, the hybrid model offers promising prospects for advancing the field of wind farm layout optimization and contributing to a greener and more sustainable energy future. This paper investigates, for the first time, the accuracy of normalized power curves (NPCs), often used to incorporate uncertainties related to wind and solar power generation, when integrating renewable distributed generation (RDG), in the radial distribution system (RDS). In this regard, the present study proposes a comprehensive, simple, and more accurate model, for estimating the expected hourly solar and wind power generation, by adopting a purely probabilistic approach. Actually, in the case of solar RDG, the proposed model allows the calculation of the expected power, without going through a specific probability density function (PDF). The validation of this model is performed through a case study comparing between the classical and the proposed model. The results show that the proposed model generates seasonal NPCs in a less complex and more relevant way compared to the discrete classical model. Furthermore, the margin of error of the classical model for estimating the expected supplied energy is about 12.6% for the photovoltaic (PV) system, and 9% for the wind turbine (WT) system. This paper introduces a new approach based on a chaotic strategy and a neural network algorithm (NNA), called chaotic-based NNA (CNNA), to solve the optimal distributed generation allocation (ODGA), in the radial distribution system (RDS). This consists of determining the optimal locations and sizes of one or several distributed generations (DGs) to be inserted into the RDS to minimize one or multiple objectives while meeting a set of security limits. The robustness of the proposed method is demonstrated by applying it to two different typical RDSs, namely IEEE 33- bus and 69-bus. In this regard, simulations are performed for three DGs in the cases of unity power factor (UPF) and optimal power factor (OPF), considering single and multi-objective optimization, by minimizing the total active losses and improving the voltage profile, voltage deviation (VD) and voltage stability index (VSI). Compared to its original version and recently reported methods, the CNNA solutions are more competitive without increasing the complexity of the optimization algorithm, especially when the RDS size and problem dimension are extended. The concept of the energy management system, developed in this work, is to determine the optimal combination of energy from several generation sources and to schedule their commitment, while optimizing the cost of purchased energy, power losses and voltage drops. In order to achieve these objectives, the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II (NSGA-II) was modified and applied to an IEEE 33-bus test network containing 10 photovoltaic power plants and 4 battery energy storage systems placed at optimal points in the network. To evaluate the system performance, the resolution was performed under several test conditions. Optimal Pareto solutions were classified using three decision-making methods, namely analytic hierarchy process (AHP), technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) and entropy-TOPSIS. The simulation results obtained by NSGA-II and classified using entropy-TOPSIS showed a significant and considerable reduction in terms of purchased energy cost, power losses and voltage drops while successfully meeting all constraints. In addition, the diversity of the results proved once again the robustness and effectiveness of the algorithm. A graphical interface was also developed to display all the decisions made by the algorithm, and all other information such as the states of power systems, voltage profiles, alarms, and history. In recent years, many works have been done in order to discuss economic dispatch in which wind farms are installed in electrical grids in addition to conventional power plants. Nevertheless, the emissions caused by fossil fuels have not been considered in most of the studies done before. In fact, thermal power plants produce important quantities of emissions for instance, carbon dioxide (CO2) and sulphur dioxide (SO2) that are harmful to the environment. This paper presents an optimization algorithm with the objective to minimize the emission levels and the production cost. A comparison of the results obtained with different optimization methods leads us to opt for the grey wolf optimizer technique (GWO) to use for solving the proposed objective function. First, the method used to estimate the wind power of a plant is presented. Second, the economic dispatch models for wind and thermal generators are presented followed by the emission dispatch model for the thermal units. Then, the proposed objective function is formulated. This article presents a fast and accurate fault location approach for power transmission lines based on the theory of traveling waves. In fact, when faults occur, they give rise to transient voltages and currents that propagate at a speed close to that of light along the transmission line as traveling waves. Moreover, according to the superposition theorem, each of these transients is a combination of a steady-state quantity and an incremental quantity. These transient signals measured at both ends of the line are first transformed to the Clarke (0-α-β components) components in order to categorize the type of faults, and then multi-scale morphological gradient filters are used to extract equivalent quantities to the incremental quantities to form what are called characteristic signals. This paper introduces an ultra-high-speed directional transmission line protection scheme based on multi-scale morphological gradient algorithm (MSMGA). The directional protection scheme sets down the rules for determining the fault position in relation to the relaying point. The MSMGA is used to extract the fault-induced transient characteristics contained in the voltage and current signals. The associated signals are formed from these transient characteristics and the polarity of their local modulus maxima allow the discrimination between internal and external faults. Nowadays, the use of the wind energy has known an important increase because it is clean and cheap. However, many technical issues could occur due to the integration of wind power plants into power grids. As a result, many countries have published grid code requirements that new installed wind turbines (WT) have to satisfy in order to facilitate its intergration to electrical networks. Among those requirements, the wind farms must be able to participate to ancillary services for instance voltage regulation and reactive power control. Nevertheless, in case of small wind farms having not the necessary reactive power capability to contribute to reactive power support, Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) devices could also be used to participate to reactive power support. In this paper, an optimization method based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique is presented. This method allows getting the optimal location and reactive power injection of both wind power plants (WPP) and synchronous var compensators (SVC) with the objective to improve the voltage profile and to minimize the active power losses. The IEEE 14 bus system and a 20 MW wind farm based doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) are used to validate the proposed algorithm. The simulation results are analysed and compared. In the recent years, the integration of the wind farms into the electrical grids has increased rapidly. Especially, the wind power plants made up with doubly fed induction generators due to its many advatanges, such as being able to control its reactive power. Hence, some countries have published grid code requirements related to the reactive power that the wind turbines have to satisfy. This paper presents a coordinated reactive power control strategy in which STATCOM and doubly fed induction generators in wind power plants are used in order to bring back the voltage at the point of common coupling in the allowable range. First, reactive power requirements that the wind farms have to fulfill in some European countries are introduced. Second, the reactive power limitations of 2MW doubly fed induction generator are determined. Then, the static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) and the synchronous var compensator (SVC) FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission Systems) devices are presented.
